Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The second week of HSC Examinations is over for our Year 12 students. Reports from all our teachers, students, and parents I have spoken to are positive to date. Our students feel calm, prepared, and ready to face any challenges the examiners throw at them. This week French Continuers and Extension, Information Processes and Technology, Ancient History, Mathematics Advanced, Standard and Extension 2, Drama, and Legal have been written by our students. Two weeks left. Keep it up Year 12s. So far so good.

This a reminder that on Sunday in Adelaide Hall at 2:00 pm, the TEDxYouth@reddamhouse.com.au will be taking place. Arranged and organised completely by students under the leadership of Quinn Luu of Year 10.

I can finally confirm that the renovations at the Bondi Campus will be starting next week. A little later than we had hoped but getting plans passed by the Waverley Council has been a lengthy process. The builders will be able to deliver 5 classrooms in the Bondi Learning Centre

for the start of next year and the completed building by the end of the first term. We all look forward to the upgrading of the entire facility at Bondi.

In the Middle School this week, the Junior Executive put on a Cultural Day where food from different countries was on offer and students were asked to dress up with their national colours. $930 was raised for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and a lot of fun was enjoyed by everyone.

Last Friday, as part of the Pastoral care program, Year 7 had a workshop delivered by Elephant Education on sexualisation that provided strategies to manage the development of sexual feelings and behaviour. It covered a sexuality timeline, introduction to intimacy, appropriately acting on feelings, and consent.

Year 8 students had a workshop delivered by Mrs. Pelosi on their leadership journey at Reddam. Next year they take on the mantle of leading the school as Year 9 students and this introduction is the first in a series of workshops that will culminate in their Induction as leaders of the Middle School early next year.

Lorraine Cushing Kleber a Psychologist and Teacher facilitated the Year 9 students in an Ethical Bystander seminar. In this seminar students learned about the powerful role of bystanders in social and bullying situations and how being an active or ethical bystander can make a real difference. When a few courageous people step in or help out, other students tend to follow. Students discuss how they could be active bystanders and contribute to a peaceful community.

THEATRE CLUB - LOOKING FOR ALIBRANDI

On Tuesday evening Reddam Theatre Club students attended their final production of the year, 'Looking for Alibrandi' at Belvoir St Theatre. Our students took their seats and were quickly transported into a world of the Italian Australian experience. It was wonderful to see them show their appreciation for the cast and creative team with a standing ovation, followed by much passionate discussion surrounding the overall production in the theatre foyer after the show.

Reddam Theatre Club aims to further enrich and inspire our Drama students through exposure to a diverse range of theatre providing an educational platform to discuss the artistic vision and design elements of professional productions. Students are introduced to a wide range of performance styles designed to inspire their directorial choices in the classroom.

We are currently taking registration for our Reddam Theatre Club 2023 Season. All Elective Drama students and parents have been emailed information for how to register. Applications close Monday 24th October 2022. For more information contact Theatre Club Organiser Chris Montgomery.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Cultural Day was a huge success as many students came dressed in wonderful cultural clothes and the cultural food market on the rooftop was so much fun. Everyone enjoyed getting involved and spending their money on amazing food made by the students of the Year 9 Executive team and some students in Years 7 and 8. These delicacies included dumplings and fried rice at the China stall, Samosas at the Indian stall, Ice Cream Sundaes at the USA stall, mini pavlovas at the Australia stall, pizza at the Italy stall and hot chips at the Britain stall.

Thank you to all the students and teachers involved for helping raise just shy of $1000 for the Indigenous Literacy Fund which helps increase literacy rates in Indigenous communities. While we should celebrate the amazing cultures present at Reddam House, we are so glad we raised so much money to help people in our own country!
