Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It’s hard to believe that we are heading into the last week of summer. What a week it has been on all fronts.
The Stag, the student newspaper, by students for students distributed the 2nd edition of 2023 this week and I include the link for those interested.
bled from all over the World and Bathurst was a blaze of colours with athletes training in their team strips around the town. Australia finished in third place behind Kenya and Ethiopia.
Our involvement was racing in the Schools Classic on Friday. Schools came from all over Australia for this event and our runners did exceptionally well. Tomi Reynaldo finished 31st in the 16s Boys with Jarad Serman in 30th. Sophia Garvin ran an amazing race finishing 10th in the 16s girls where she was two years younger than some of her opponents. Aston Lake ran a great race where he was in the leading group for the full four kilometres. He finished up in 4th place and was the second placed runner from NSW.
A brilliant trip for our athletes where they performed
The Sports Department have been busy this week and Mr Kable reported that:
“Last Thursday we had the pleasure of being involved in the World Cross Country Championships at Bathurst. Racing was on the inside area of the Mount Panorama Racing Track. A beautiful course that was testing with plenty of hills along with sand and mud. Teams assem-

Brad Palmer, our retired Head of Mathematics and Football Manager, has been selected as the coach for the Australian Tibetan Youth Soccer side. This community service initiative by Brad will see these players represent Australia at the GCM Gold Cup in India. This tournament is for Tibetan communities living in exile and aims to foster unity between Tibetan young people exiled throughout the world. There is a flyer about getting involved on page 15 of this newsletter

and it was wonderful to see our students lead a standing ovation to show their support and adoration of the cast and crew. An exciting start to a brilliant season of theatre ahead
The Welcome Recital the first of our Music evenings for the year was hosted by Luca Del Monaco and Zoe Topper of the Year 9 and Year 12 Judiciary respectively. This fantastic evening of music performance was notable for the excellence of all the performers and the diversity of the programme. Congratulations to the 32 students who had pieces of the standard required so early in the year.
The final Parent Information Evenings were held on Tuesday and Thursday for Year 7 and Year 9 parents respectively. Tuesday night’s storm did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Year 7 parents and both evenings had the energy that has characterised all these sessions.
The Year Coordinators, teachers, and I have really enjoyed meeting the parents of the students in our care, some for the first time in three years. Thank you to all the parents who attended and made the evenings such worthwhile and enjoyable ones.
On Monday evening our Years 9 to 12 Theatre Club students attended their first production of the season, Hubris and Humiliation, written by Lewis Treston. Over 70 students attended Sydney Theatre Company, they were a captivated audience for this satirical, love story celebrating gender diversity and family unity in a hilarious and colourful reimagining inspired by Pride and Prejudice. The production was part of this year’s World Pride celebrations,
The House Swimming Carnival takes place next Wednesday, 1st March. Mr Kable has sent parents and students an email with the expectations that we have of them on the day. It is compulsory for Years 7, 8, and 9 and swimmers from Years 10, 11, and 12 may get involved if they want to represent the school at the CDSSA Championships.
The Y10 students had the privilege of hearing the life story of Kath Koschel and how and why she started the Kindness Factory. The message was simple, be kind to yourself and to others. There was not a dry eye in the audience as her story and message resonated with everyone. Her book can be purchased by using the following link:
An important part of the HSC process for the Year 12 students is the Study Buddy workshop today.

“What surviving on the kindness of strangers taught me about perspective, connection and happiness.” By Kath Koschel
Students from the HSC Class of 2022 return to the school and offer tips and strategies that had worked for them as individuals and collectively as a cohort. Their passion to see their successors succeed was heart warming and very much part of their success last year. Have a wonderful last weekend of summer and a great week ahead.

SCHOLARSHIPS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY
MySydney Entry & Scholarship Scheme
The E12 Early Offer and Scholarship Scheme is being discontinued as the University has introduced MySydney. Similarly to E12, MySydney provides entry at a reduced ATAR, yet a more generous scholarship of $8500 per year to students residing in a low socioeconomic area*. MySydney does not require a written application and eligible students will be identified automatically via UAC.
*Residing at the time of UAC application in an area listed in the bottom 25% of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Socio-Economic Index for Areas (SEIFA), Index of Education and Occupation.
Scholarships
The decision was made to discontinue the Sydney Scholars Award. With such a large volume of applications each year, far outweighing the number of Awards available to students, it was decided it was not fair for students to be spending so much time on their applications as such a crucial time of year.
In preparation for the change, the Chancellor’s Award was recently expanded to include students who received a 99.90 ATAR (previously awarded to 99.95 only). This cohort accounted for a large number of the Sydney Scholars Awards historically given to students. Preliminary 2023 offer and enrolment numbers also show that more students who achieved an ATAR of 95.00+ received the University’s new MySydney Scholarship, than those who received the Sydney Scholars Award. There continues to be many academic merit scholarships available at a faculty level which we encourage students to apply for. The scholarships search tool will help students discover the range of scholarships that they may be eligible for.

Educational Access Scheme
There are several changes to EAS this year:
The six-month rule has been removed. Applications will be assessed for disadvantages that have occurred for any length of time up until 30 September of the year they complete Year 12.
Disadvantage codes F01K and F01S, which allowed students to claim financial disadvantage based on COVID19 government payments, have been removed.
There is a new SEIFA disadvantage code, AG02, which works in the same way as AG01 but draws on the Australian Bureau of Statistics Index of Education and Occupation instead of the Index of Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage. The day after they submit their application, students identified as meeting the criteria for either of these disadvantages will be notified that UAC has automatically created an EAS application for them.
The student's document cover sheet will include a checklist to help them understand what they need to provide.
The Educational Impact Statement will require schools to answer fewer questions, making it a quicker and easier process for you.
UAC - will also host another online Year 12 Conference. Last year, 3,500 students and parents logged in to watch, making it the biggest UAC Digital event to date. When: 28 April @ 6pm. Registrations will open soon and details will be announced when available.
