Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The Sydney World Pride and Mardi Gras Festival events close this weekend. It has been a time to celebrate inclusivity, acceptance, equality, the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history, and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. With that in mind, the Charity Portfolio held a Mufti Day with $500 raised for Minus 18 LGBTQIA+ Youth. This charity tackles the social isolation many students in this community feel by creating spaces where LGBTQIA+ young people belong, are celebrated, and can make friends.
Excerpts from the Reddam School Song sum up our school’s commitment to inclusivity, respect, and acceptance of all people.
“We are free to be ourselves And respect each other equally We share a common dream To be whoever we want to be Independent pride in who we are Unique in who we are Standing proud
This is the Reddam way”
On Wednesday, the Swimming Carnival was again held at the Drummoyne Pool.
The sun shone all day, and the racing was exciting. Congratulations to Darling House on taking out the Carnival with 997 points, followed by Bennelong with 927 in second place, Macquarie in Third with 776, and Piper bringing up the rear with 687.

Year 11 and 12 Music students attended the Encore showcase on Monday evening. These performances of the best of the best give the students an idea of what standard for which to strive.
The Year 12 students taking Advanced English attended a performance of Shakespeare’s Richard III by a company called Sport for Jove today. The play is one of their HSC
On Thursday the Music Department organised for our Year 12 students to have a string quartet workshop with members of QuartEd - a String Quartet specialising in performing new compositions. All professional musicians and qualified educators, the players started the day demonstrating string techniques and teaching the students how to write successfully for this type of ensemble. Each student then had the chance to have their own personal session with the group to have their compositional ideas played and workshopped, helping them compose their mandatory pieces as part of the Music 2 HSC course. Having the chance to hear music played by real people is invaluable, and the experience will give these students a real advantage within this course component. Quart-Ed will join us again in Term 2 for another workshop session before producing the final recordings submitted to NESA in September for each student.
Mr. Garratt’s Year 12 Geographers’ trip to Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Forrest left on Thursday. They will study ecosystems at risk, the global and local forces at play, and ecological sustainability. We look forward to their report next week.

Excellent news from the Sports Department is that Paloma Nicolas has been selected for the Australian Women's Under 16 Squad. Paloma will be training at the AIS with her teammates. Congratulations, Paloma, what a fantastic achievement.
More Congratulations can be seen over the page for what has been a very successful year so far for our athletes and musicians.
This weekend there are two school camps. The Year 11 students attend a Leadership Camp at Stanwell Tops and the Middle School Drama students attend a Drama Camp at the Collaroy Centre. Ms. Vince and Mr. Montgomery respectively are responsible for organising these wonderful opportunities for our students. More about both in next week’s newsletter.
Have a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead.

Joshua Tancred (Y7)
Joshua had a massive weekend on the sports field. On Saturday he ran a 21:15 in the Dolls Point Parkrun and then backed up on Sunday and scored 100 runs for his Easts Division 1 Cricket Team. The ton was scored off 70 balls. We might get him on a flight to India!
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS
Year 12 Reddam student Frankie Nicklin has been setting the world on fire with her achievements on the cricket pitch. Frankie is currently captaining NSWCIS in the All Schools Tournament and has done a great job guiding her team to victory in the Final against NSWCHS. On top of this she has been awarded the highest honour from CIS at the recent awards evening winning a Blue. Frankie recently made her debut with Australia's Number 1 cricket team, the NSW Breakers and is destined for a very successful future playing cricket.
Reddam House Year 10 Netball Team
Year 10 netball team finished up Runners Up in the Bondi Netball competition. The team has been playing all Summer and have done extremely well only losing one match throughout the season.
Congratulations!!!

Jazz and “Quin Marvel” AKA Peaches came joint 5th place in the point score for the junior event of the NSW state indoor titles after the final day of competition last weekend.
Another fabulous result for this amazing team.

SCHOLARSHIPS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY
MySydney Entry & Scholarship Scheme
The E12 Early Offer and Scholarship Scheme is being discontinued as the University has introduced MySydney. Similarly to E12, MySydney provides entry at a reduced ATAR, yet a more generous scholarship of $8500 per year to students residing in a low socioeconomic area*. MySydney does not require a written application and eligible students will be identified automatically via UAC.
*Residing at the time of UAC application in an area listed in the bottom 25% of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Socio-Economic Index for Areas (SEIFA), Index of Education and Occupation.
Scholarships
The decision was made to discontinue the Sydney Scholars Award. With such a large volume of applications each year, far outweighing the number of Awards available to students, it was decided it was not fair for students to be spending so much time on their applications as such a crucial time of year.
In preparation for the change, the Chancellor’s Award was recently expanded to include students who received a 99.90 ATAR (previously awarded to 99.95 only). This cohort accounted for a large number of the Sydney Scholars Awards historically given to students. Preliminary 2023 offer and enrolment numbers also show that more students who achieved an ATAR of 95.00+ received the University’s new MySydney Scholarship, than those who received the Sydney Scholars Award. There continues to be many academic merit scholarships available at a faculty level which we encourage students to apply for. The scholarships search tool will help students discover the range of scholarships that they may be eligible for.

CAREERS NEWS CONTINUED
Educational Access Scheme
There are several changes to EAS this year:
The six-month rule has been removed. Applications will be assessed for disadvantages that have occurred for any length of time up until 30 September of the year they complete Year 12.
Disadvantage codes F01K and F01S, which allowed students to claim financial disadvantage based on COVID19 government payments, have been removed.
There is a new SEIFA disadvantage code, AG02, which works in the same way as AG01 but draws on the Australian Bureau of Statistics Index of Education and Occupation instead of the Index of Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage. The day after they submit their application, students identified as meeting the criteria for either of these disadvantages will be notified that UAC has automatically created an EAS application for them.
The student's document cover sheet will include a checklist to help them understand what they need to provide.
The Educational Impact Statement will require schools to answer fewer questions, making it a quicker and easier process for you.
UAC - will also host another online Year 12 Conference. Last year, 3,500 students and parents logged in to watch, making it the biggest UAC Digital event to date. When: 28 April @ 6pm. Registrations will open soon and details will be announced when available.
