REDDAM EARLY LEARNING SCHOOL ST LEONARDS NEWSLETTER Principal’s Message

29th July 2022

By Mrs Simone Cooke

Dear Parents, Welcome to Term Three. The children thoroughly enjoyed their Vacation with the Gruffalo and found room on the broom to explore the deep dark woods. They made witches hats, created potions, and immersed themselves in the magic of Julia Donaldson’s much-loved stories. Fostering imagination builds creativity and encourages children to think outside the square. Einstein once said that “Imagination is more important that knowledge” as it opens the door to possibility. By experimenting with new ways of doing things our children develop their critical thinking skills and learn to problem solve creatively . When children use pretend play they experiment with different roles. Because imaginative play is open-ended it provides children with control to be whatever they want, it was delightful to watch our children put on their witches wigs and hats and transform into mythical creatures, creating their own fantasy scenes. Even the quietest and most reserve children will embrace pretend play and feel safe to come out of the shell and ‘try on’ a new persona. This builds confidence and encourages children to feel safe to explore and express themselves in different ways. This week’s newsletter is a sample of just some of the vacation fun that we enjoyed as we took a break from our regular routines and let our imaginations run wild!
