Bell X1
Bloodless Coup
NATIONAL release date: CD: 4.12.2011 One of Ireland’s top-selling recording artists for over half a decade and a favorite of music supervisors for tastemaker shows like Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill and The O.C., Bell X1 are a mainstream phenomenon with cult cred. The Irish rockers are bona fide arena-rocking superstars in their home country and sport an ever-growing rabid contingent of U.S. fans being multiplied by the day by serious commercial radio love, including Top 10 hit “The Great Defector.” Bloodless Coup marks the band’s fifth album and as many marriages of the proven Bell X1 formula with fresh musical textures. This time, the band blends electronic musings with the hook-laden song craft of songwriter and vocalist Paul Noonan. The result is touching songs with propulsive, addictive sonics. Noonan’s subject matter ranges from the Irish financial meltdown, to ideal love and the euphoria that can be brought on getting your hands dirty. With Bloodless Coup, Bell X1 yet again walks the tightrope between radio-ready hits and the sophisticated imagery that has become its signature. REtail:
We will be doing targeted marketing across the nation for this release. The band will be available for in-stores while on the road and there will be in-store play copies and posters are available, as well as video widgets and banners to place on retail websites and eblasts. We are working with Shore Fire Media for publicity. They have worked the last two albums and are continuing to build on the story of the band in the media world. Targets include NPR, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, People, etc. Tour:

Nick Lowe Labour Of Lust
NATIONAL release date: lp: 04.12.2011 As the bassist and primary songwriter for Brinsley Schwarz, Lowe was one of the catalysts of the pub rock phenomenon in the early 1970s. As the co-founder and house producer at Stiff Records, he would help create the blueprint for the modern indie rock label and usher in British punk and new wave, helming historic recordings for The Damned, Elvis Costello, and The Pretenders. Here, his landmark second solo album Labour of Lust gets the deluxe reissue treatment, sporting an expanded 12pg. booklet with period photos, new essays and artwork by groundbreaking graphic artist Barney Bubbles. The reissue also includes Nick’s biggest US hit “Cruel To Be Kind,” the originally U.K.- only “Endless Grey Ribbon” and U.S.only “American Squirm” plus bonus B-side “Basing Street.” LOL is the only of Lowe’s solo albums to hold the distinction of featuring Nick’s Rockpile cohorts Dave Edmunds, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams on every track. Originally released in 1979 and out of print for nearly twenty years, the album has been remastered from the original source, reintroducing this masterpiece to a new generation of pop music obsessives. KEY FACTS: • Long awaited reissue of the 1979 album featuring Nick Lowe’s greatest pop hit “Cruel To Be Kind” • LP in print for the first time in over 30 years • Tracklist combines songs from US and UK versions plus a bonus track “Basing Street” for a 13-track release over the original 11 • Package features inner sleeve with notes, essays, credits, and rare shots REtail: We will be doing targeted marketing in key markets across the nation. Marketing funds are available for key indies and regional chain programs. In-store play copies, promo items, and posters are available, as well as video widgets and banners to place on retail websites and eblasts: contact your sales rep or or mike@yeproc.com. Radio: We will service this digitally to all of Triple A, CMJ and Alt. Specialty. Nick has a great history in a number of genres of radio, and they will be glad to spin this re-issue. Historically big fans of Nick Lowe will be priority targets in addition to past supporters of Quiet Please. Press: We are working with Shore Fire Media to pitch this album. The 1979 BBC Documentary “Born Fighters” along with photos from the period will aid our efforts to secure coverage. Video: We will service a roughly 30-second teaser clip to reintroduce the album to writers, retailers, and consumers. The short features a mysterious man walking down a dark, dank street and enters a bar. After a drink he heads into a private, back room to meet with a mob boss and acquire the original tapes for Labour Of Lust. “Cracking Up” provides the soundtrack. GENRE : ROCK/COUNTRY FILE UNDER: “S” Speer, D. Charles & the Helix D. Charles Speer & the Helix came together through a shared love of musical interplay that moves the mind and body. Born from the obsessions and predilections of David Charles Shuford, strains of glassine cruelty, broken glasses and ruptured knees mixed with memories of Chet Atkins lullabies and ZZ Top vids to generate a songcraft steeped in tradition but themed for the burned. A practicing multi-instrumentalist in various New York City improvisational ensembles for the last 15 plus years, Shuford began to feel the pull of the pen soon after the last proposed apocalypse. He began writing and recording music in the style of interweaved rhythms and basic harmonic shapes associated with the music of the 20th century South. Drawing from a deep well of sources and influences, from Memphis string band blasters and Georgia soul merchants to Texas and California psych, to Cajun and country steel strings singing, anything with gusto to spare was fodder for the ear. Through a cutting lyrical style displaying vivid imagery and abject scenarios as well as a compositional sense that maintains a personal and singular sound, Speer manifests a modernist extension of some of America’s most enthralling sounds. The Helix features some of the hottest players in this or any other town, including Hans Chew on keys and Marc Orleans on pedal steel and guitar; they have both been members of the band since its earliest incarnations in 2006. Ted Robinson moved to town in early 2009 and immediately installed himself as a bad ass on the rhythm scene. Steven McGuirl has been a long term compatriot and supporter of the band and we are super pleased to have him join us in our frolics since spring of 2010. These cats have been honing their craft individually and in tandem for many a moon and the sweat, grime, and vibes shine through. Leaving the Commonwealth is the third full length by D. Charles Speer & the Helix and features their most accomplished playing and songwriting yet, setting a high watermark for narrative honky tonk rock at this late date. Inspired by swaggering, outrageous and engaging sonic tales like Cowboy Jack Clement’s “Miller’s Cave”, this album features byzantine songs which flow surprisingly quickly and with natural grace. The album opener “Razorbacked” emits noirish cinematic imagery and twists which are matched with music sparked from a wasted mid 70s cassette from Peaches or Turtles. Numerous musical luminaries, including Freddie King and Clifton Chenier, are invoked and celebrated in song. Other tracks like “Cumberland” and “Battle of the Wilderness” are historically detailed and geographically specific chronicles. Dense tones flow from all corners, with guitar sounds reminiscent of Fripp or Manzanera on one end and the pedal steel tones of Emmons and Mooney on another. Beautifully recorded by Jason LaFarge of Seizures Palace in the urban environs of Brooklyn, this album is southern by lyrical setting, country by instrumental arrangement, rocking through its rhythmic heft and most certainly contemporary in attitude.

GENRE : EXPERIMENTAL FILE UNDER: “Z” Zomes “L” Lungfish
Release Date: April 12, 2011 NO EXPORT The music of Asa Osborne forms a corpus, still evolving, that spans 30 years, growing through early projects in Southern Maryland, The Clits and Pig, to the Baltimore song-lab of Lungfish and the sub-group The Pupils, until presently his compositions are crafted in solitude and offered to the listener as Zomes. Melody is rhythm, tone is proportion, tempo harmonizes, synchronizing with life, akin to the morphological architecture of trees, rivers, reaching from root to fruit, from mountain to sea. Asa Osborne’s songs are artifacts of his trust in the Wisdom of Music. Guided by the visionary guitar work of Osborne, Lungfish carved out a singular sound. Predating the drone wave by almost a decade, the band explored modal repetition and cyclical variation. Lungfish, while not currently active, remains a highly influential band, their cult status growing to legend, clearly evident in how their catalog sells several times as many records now, as it did when the band was active. Zomes distills these ideas and towering cyclical melodies to their essence. Distorted keyboard melodies tumble one over the other held together by simple tape-looped drum beats. Earth Grid, Zomes second solo album, is the culmination of Osborne’s years of exploring meditative modal models. Written, played, and recorded entirely at home on cassette tape, Earth Grid, is an intimate and intentionally primitive recording. The album was mastered by Bob Weston. The cover art was created by Osborne whose reputation as a visual artist is growing. He has had several group and solo shows, including a show at New York’s Mountain Fold Gallery with Lungfish singer and friend, Daniel Higgs. A fan of primitive and outsider art, Osborne’s work uses common objects to reach transformative ends. A visual reflection of the music, the cover takes simple elements (white medical tape on black paper) and via careful placement and repetition of patterns with subtle variations creates a beautiful space transforming the simple to the infinite.

So gorgeous and sublime, mysterious and so so powerful.” - Aquarius

GENRE : POP FILE UNDER: “T” Tucker, Alexander British experimental musician Alexander Tucker releases his Thrill Jockey debut Dorwytch. This record breaks new ground for Tucker by combining minimalist string arrangements with electronic manipulations and drones to produce doom chamber-pop songs and psychedelic music-concrete collages. Tucker’s sound has developed over the years since his first self-titled solo album, which featured acoustic finger-picking, experimental electronics and was released on Jackie O Motherfucker’s U-Sound Archives label. He went on to combine compositional song structures, drones, layered vocals and improvisations on his 2005 album Old Fog released on ATP Recordings. This collection of spectral moods, eerie landscapes and fragile emotions was followed by Furrowed Brow (2006) and Portal (2008), where the songs and melodies became more pronounced, whilst infecting the tracks with underlying drone currents, traditional finger-picking, doom riffs and David Crosby inspired harmonies. Three years in the making Dorwytch finds Tucker refining his song craft and introducing minimalist string movements that build into dense spiraling riffs around his distinct vocals. With varied sounds and grandiose ideas, the album marries the abstract with more traditional song structures, using layering techniques to create the illusion of an ensemble. This album is the first time Tucker has used drums, collaborating with free improv drummer Paul May to create rhythmic improvised beats. Other guests include brooding blues songwriter Duke Garwood (Fire Records), singer-songwriter Jess Bryant and multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Daniel O’Sullivan (Guapo, Aethanor, Miracles, Ulver). The album’s themes run the gamut from abstract tales of the everyday, to the supernatural, to other-worldly experiences. Influenced heavily by the work of Alan Moore, songs such as “Matter” reference this directly with themes of metaphysical human/plant matter transcendence inspired by the comic Swamp Thing. Tucker is also fascinated by strange creatures conjured up in tracks such as “Half Vast” where he loops synth pulses to create blissed sonic atmospheres where organic spaceships give birth to plasmatic babies. Or pieces like “Skelator Blues” with chiming guitars and haunted vocals giving birth to skeletal beings who stalk the earth. There are some more mundane themes at work in songs such as “Mildew Stars” (the only one with traditional tunings) about childhood coastal holidays and his dad’s collections of musty old books, prints and found precious things. In addition to being a solo artist Tucker continues to collaborate with Daniel Beban in their tape loop project Imbogodom (also on Thrill Jockey). Other bands include Grumbling Fur with members of Guapo and Circle. Past collaborative projects include duets with Stephen O’Malley on his Ginnungagap side project. Tucker is also a visual artist, creating artwork for all of his album covers and side projects, including ongoing paintings, drawings, and comic artwork. Dorwytch is a beautiful collection of songs, which show Alexander Tucker at the height of his creative talents. He is capable of creating immense sounds on such a grand scale that it is astounding to realize that it is (mostly) all the work of just one man. This album will beguile and entice the listener, placing Tucker at the forefront of the experimental pop landscape.

In 2006, Howe Gelb embarked on a journey with a gospel choir with the result the astounding, critically acclaimed album 'Sno' Angel Like You'. This new chapter sees Howe embellish a troop of amenco playing gypsies, including the virtuoso guitarist Raimundo Amador (collaborated with Bjork and BB King) and is mixed by the legendary John Parish (PJ Harvey). Recorded atop a Cordoba roof with his 'Band Of Gypsies' in the AndalucĂa sun, ''Alegrias", is an exceptional new work from Howe Gelb. Originally only available in Spain, where the record enjoyed considerable success due in part to the wondrous contribution from Flamenco guitar virtuoso 'Raimundo Amador', Fire is pleased to be releasing the latest jewel in the considerable crown of Howe Gelb's musical delights. Many have tried to blend Flamenco with their native style without success, which makes 'Alegrias' more than a coming together of music. 'Alegrias' is an event, a special moment captured by a collection of musicians who have been graced with the fortune of seamlessly marrying the rich Flamenco rhythms to Howe's own unique sound. Maintaining the familiar taste of the Arizona desert that Howe has cultivated over the years, both solo and with Giant Sand, his sound embraces new shades that blend with the beats of -amenco as opposed to exist alongside, inspired by Howe's memories of the Tucson desert, painted with the sound of favourites Tom Waits, Miles Davis and Tomatito, Howe encountered this record by chance after travelling to Cordoba, where he met Fernando Vacas. What started as an organic coming together of minds soon enjoyed input from local -amenco musicians that led to the exploration of uncharted territory somewhere between American roots rock, southern and border, and the purest -amenco. GIANT SAND - Center Of The Universe (25th Anniversary Edition)
FORMAT - CD LABEL - Fire Records UPC - CD: 809236117328 CATALOG # - FIRECD173 LIST PRICE - $15.99 Carrying on with the rolling reissues of Giant Sand/ Howe Gelb which will see the rerelease of roughly 30 albums. “Center Of The Universe”, originally released in 1992 , is the eighth Giant Sand reissue in the series. Howe holds „Center Of The Universe‟ close to his heart, explaining the record “Could be my favourite record .. written in a one room cabin at the end of the road in the high desert around Joshua tree where I lived for a few years ... recorded back in Venice, California with the same slant as was in-stilled in the writing ... adorned with the 'psycho sisters' who show where the melodies in these songs were hiding ... now through the miracle of remastering, these tracks sound more vibrant and alluring”.
GIANT SAND - Long Stem Rant (25th Anniversary Edition)
FORMAT - CD LABEL - Fire Records UPC - CD: 809236117120 CATALOG # - FIRECD171 LIST PRICE - $15.99 Long Stem Rant was originally released in 1989 and is the fifth reissue from Fire Records. This album, marked a turning point for the band, more improvisational and less structured than previous efforts, it features some of Howe’s best songs. For the past 25 years the Tucson-based Giant Sand (originally Giant Sandworms as a nod to the “Dune” books) has been one of the most consistently innovative in the American music scene. A recipe that could perhaps be best described as 1 cup well-executed grunge aesthetic, 1 cup downtown NY, 1 cup troubadour, and a dash of country outlaw. Although its membership has shifted greatly over the years, singer / songwriter (as well as guitarist and pianist) Howe Gelb has remained at the helm to help fill the coffers of what could be called the new American folk son
GIANT SAND - The Love Songs (25th Anniversary Edition)
FORMAT - CD LABEL - Fire Records UPC - CD: 809236117021 CATALOG # - FIRECD170 LIST PRICE - $15.99 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Valley Of Rain - the debut album by Giant Sand and Fire Records is proud to announce the start of a Giant Sand/ Howe Gelb series of rolling reissues which will see the re-release of roughly 30 albums which started started with the re-release of Valley Of Rain. The Love Songs was originally released in 1988 and is the fourth reissue from Fire Records. Often called Giant Sand’s best album of their early period, 1988’s “Love Songs” features an expressiveness and songwrit-ing maturity that rivals Bob Dylan. Giant Sand is a mood, says Howes of Giant Sand, as if trying to offer a lowkey explanation for his dizzy-ing array of artistic exploration that includes a back-catalogue of some 40 albums as a singer, band-leader and producer. After growing up in Pennsylvania in the 1970s, it wasnt until he moved to Tuscon, Arizona that he met his musical soul mate, the guitarist Rainer Ptaceck.
GIANT SAND - Swerve (25th Anniversary Edition)
FORMAT - CD LABEL - Fire Records UPC - CD: 809236117229 CATALOG # - FIRECD172 LIST PRICE - $15.99 Swerve was originally released in 1990 and is the sixth reissue from Fire Records. Featuring a variety of guest performers throughout, including Green on Red's Chris Cacavas, Juliana Hatfield, Steve Wynn, and a fair hunk of Poi Dog Pondering, Swerve features the then duo of Gelb and Convertino on a fine slew of songs. Recorded at a number of different locations, from Boston to Los Angeles, Swerve found Gelb reaching the ten-year point with his band in fantastic style. Gelb's fractured vision of roots music meets modern times sounded distinct and enjoyable enough at the time of Swerve's release, and still holds up excel-lently in later years. His ear for aggressively weird soloing in particular is just great (check "Dream Stay" for one of his best Neil Young nods yet), while his straight playing remains quite accomplished. Gelb's friendly twang, once again, is a treat, able to convey emotion and humour in the same sly turn of phrase.

AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE — Voodoo Of The Godsent
FORMAT - CD LABEL - On-U Sound UPC - 5060263720003 CATALOG # - ONUCD1015 LIST PRICE - $15.99 “Voodoo Of The Godsent‟ is the first new recording in five years from African Head Charge, and marks the beginning of an extensive series of new releases and classic reissues celebrating the 30th Anniversary of On-U Sound. This is their first release since 2005‟s “Visions Of A Psychedelic Africa‟ and finds Bonjo once again join- ing forces with long time On-U stable -mates Skip McDonald, Crocodile, and the Crispy Horns, together with contributions from legendary bassist George Oban, Dancehall pioneer Jazzwad and electronic wizard Adamski. The Milkshakes — 107 Tapes (Early demos and live recordings)
FORMAT - CD / 2LP LABEL - Damaged Goods UPC - CD: 5020422036321 2LP: 5020422036314 CATALOG # - CD: DAMGOOD363CD 2LP: DAMGOOD363LP LIST PRICE - CD: $15.99 2LP: $25.99 This is a re-issue of the 1986 Media Burn compilation of demos from July 1981 and a couple of Ger- man live shows from April 1983, back on double LP for the first time in 24 years. With Childish on guitar and vocals, Hampshire on guitar and vocals, Bruce Brand on drums, and Russ Wilkins (later replaced by John Agnew) on bass, the Milkshakes sound was a primitive blend of British beat groups, like the early Kinks at their toughest, and hard-rocking American guitar instrumentalists, like Link Wray. This sound came to be known as the "Medway sound" and Childish has been playing a variation on it throughout his whole career. The band was very much a blend of Childish's primitive songwriting and Hampshire's melodic leanings. The Milkshakes were a prolific group, recording nine records in their six years together and masterminding the Medway girl group, the Delmonas.

JENIFEREVER— SILESIA
FORMAT - CD / LP LABEL - Monotreme UPC - CD: 5065002002006 LP: 5065002002013 CATALOG # - CD: Mono-50 LP: Mono-50VNL LIST PRICE - CD: $15.99 LP: $31.99 Jeniferever, the Uppsala four-piece – Kristofer Jönson, Martin Sandström, Olle Bilius and Fredrik Aspelin – have previously been compared to some truly otherworldly outfits, bands with the ability to paint a world around the listener. But every second of Silesia is tied to place and time, bound by reality and borne by experience. The album’s title is taken from the former name of Berlin’s Ostbahnhof. It was near here, while on tour in 2009, that Kristofer learned that his father had passed away. Several months later, a third album began to form. The end product is Jeniferever’s brightest, most immediate longplayer yet. From pain, confidence; from darkness, light. Silesia is an album of similar changes and contrasts, of life and death, and just as fascinating as the forever-changing nature of what’s outside your window.
Nikki Sudden —Playing With Fire
FORMAT - CD LABEL - Troubadour UPC - 5060174950919 CATALOG # - TRBCD011 LIST PRICE - $15.99 A carefully selected compilation of completely unreleased songs recorded former Swell Maps frontman's last two studio albums “Treasure Island” & “The truth doesn’t matter “ . Nikki died suddenly after completing his last studio album “The Truth Doesn't Matter” which featured. some of the most confessional and openly sentimental songwriting of his long, labyrinthine solo career-- making this a natural companion piece - the robust performances and elaborate arrangements here do not sound like the work of someone who was ready to check out. A most fitting testament to the collision of boredom and bedlam that initially ignited Sudden's 30-year run, and that will continue to inspire future rock and roll renegades long after he's gone. Liner notes by right hand man John Barry. Booklet features unseen photos of Nikki from the period of these recordings.

The polished disco-synth debut single Please Don’t Take Him Back was playlisted on BBC 6Music , as well as being hotly tipped in the music press including Artrocker & Clash. Weeks later and their second release A Train Wreck was rated an NME Top 10 Download. Mount Moriah’s 2010 EP, The Letting Go, highlighted the band’s thematic range, moving from delicate acoustic narratives to a dark, fuzzed-out, soulful stomper in just three tracks. Mount Moriah’s long-awaited, self-titled debut -- featuring guest instrumentation by members of St. Vincent, Megafaun, and many other North Carolina-based musicians -- is cut from the same cloth, offering a far-reaching and non-traditional take on classic folk themes like devotion, tribulation, redemption, and an indelible sense of place. Genres: Folk-Rock, Southern rock, Alt-Country, Classic Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic RIYL: Gillian Welch, Songs: Ohia, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Fleet Foxes, Carol King, Black Mountain Selling Points: • Hometown - The triangle area of North Carolina (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) • Team Clermont to handle US press campaign • AAM to handle college radio campaign • Videos available for the tracks Lament and Old Gowns and The Letting Go Praise: “[Heather McEntire] is the god child of Dolly Parton, Bjork, Sinead, and someone I can't put my finger on - very special. The songwriting is just as good, an unusual thing; [Mount Moriah] is gifted in every way. I don't want to categorize this music because it very much defies it… so many layers…[it’s] transporting.” - Amy Ray, Indigo Girls "Mount Moriah's two-guitar ache is spare and arid, guitar tones floating thick and slow like the smell of bog and honeysuckle in humid Southern air. Heather McEntire, also of Bellafea, leads the band, her voice a sharp blade with a soft handle." - Grayson Currin, The Independent "I think you don't see a stage presence like Heather McEntire's more than a few times in your life. She's unbelievable." - John Darnielle, The Mountain Goats “Though it's just three songs, [The Letting Go] is surprisingly varied. The intimate, relaxed demo "Reckoning" opens the set, giving way to the fuller, ambient folk of the title track. A live cut, "Telling the Hour," ends the record on a turbulent note, touching on the pained, terse guitars and fierce, emotive vocals of Bellafea. It's hard to imagine this kind of non-traditionalist Americana record coming from anywhere but North Carolina.” - Evan Rytlewski, Express Milwaukee “Heather McEntire isn’t your stereotypical woman with a guitar. In fact, the singer defies that image completely, belting out choruses that sizzle and writhe with undeniable intensity. Aided by Horseback’s Jenks Miller, Mount Moriah crafts visceral, arresting tracks that shine on The Letting Go.” - Linnie Greene, The Daily Tar Heel
Dorian Concept Her Tears Taste Like Pears -EP Cat #: ZEN12277 Format: 12” Barcode: 5021392632162 Box Lot: 20 Label: Ninja Tune Street Date: 04/12/11 Price: $9.99
After producing one of the standout tracks for Ninja’s 20th anniversary boxset and wowing audiences at a variety of “Ninja XX’ shows, plus appearing on keyboards in Flying Lotus’ band and appearing with a string section at the Royal Albert Hall, Dorian Concept is ready to release his first EP for Ninja Tune. Intensely intricate and musical, yet supremely soulful, Dorian Concept creates tunes which are simultaneously melancholy, propulsive and uplifting. From the moment the bass drops on “Her Tears Taste Like Pears,” through the multi-layered avant-dancehall of “My Face Needs Food,” on into the glorious shuffle of “Toe Games Made Her Giggle” before “Thank You All The Time Forever” finishes off in more a more introspective mood, you know that this is a producer to reckon with. Whatever he touches sounds completely and exclusively like himself, a completely developed aesthetic, rathering than the zigzagging re-hashes of a hack. Dorian Concept is a Vienna-based composer and musician, a child pianist who went on to study music composition in Salzburg. He has released a string of extraordinary singles and EPs on Affine Records and Kindred Sprits, most notably the Trilingual Dance Sexperience release in 2009. He is currently one of the most vital artists working in electronic music, his fusion of jazz, electronics and progressive club music is as exciting as it is unique.
