John Doe KEEPER

NATIONAL release date: CD/LP: 8.30.2011 John Doe is one of modern music's most authentic & enduring songwriters. A keystone of the legendary LA punk rock band X, the Chicago Tribune called him, "punk rock's golden throat." While touring with X over the last 30 years, Doe also cultivated his own career as a solo artist, diving headfirst into alt country, folk, and gut-wrenching rock'n'roll. His latest record is KEEPER, the glass-half-full counterpart to 2007's emotionally damaged A Year in the Wilderness. KEEPER was recorded over six months with hit-making producer/mixer Dave Way and features performances from legends and friends alike. Patty Griffin, Don Was, Smokey Hormel and Steve Berlin take star turns along with great performances from Cindy Wasserman and Jill Sobule. Doe says of the process, "Pieces of sadness exists in everything but it doesn't have to be the only thing. I finally figured out how to write a love song where the people actually get loved." This is a record by a veteran artist who has come back from the brink with his arms full of fast and beautiful songs. Key facts: • 8th studio album from one of modern music’s most authentic and enduring songwriters • Guest appearances on the record include Patty Griffin, Don Was, Steve Berlin, Howe Gelb, Cindy Wasserman, and Jill Sobule among others • Bonus track “101%” only on LP Retail:

CYMBALS EAT GUITARS LENSES ALIEN

bark118 CD/LP+MP3

STREET DATE: AUGUST 30, 2011 Cymbals Eat Guitars released their debut album Why There Are Mountains in 2009, receiving a response that far exceeded the band’s expectations. Two years have gone by since that early hype cycle began, and a lot has changed. Half of the musicians that played on Mountains came and went before major touring began, replaced by Brian Hamilton on keys and Matthew Whipple on bass. Hamilton and Whipple joined singer/songwriter/guitarist Joseph D’Agostino and drummer Matt Miller to take the show on the road, finally solidifying the lineup. An official release of Mountains on the band’s own imprint, extensive US touring with the likes of Bear in Heaven, Los Campesinos!, and The Thermals, European dates with The Flaming Lips and The Hold Steady, plus festival performances including Lollapalooza and Glastonbury kept the band quite busy. All the while, they were using whatever free time was afforded to them to write songs for a planned follow-up.

TRACKLISTING 1. Rifle Eyesight (Proper Name) 2. Shore Points 3. Keep Me Waiting 4. Plainclothes 5. Definite Darkness 6. Another Tunguska 7. The Current 8. Wavelengths 9. Secret Family 10. Gary Condit

Lenses Alien is a stunning example of a band growing into itself – learning to collaborate, becoming more confident. Mountains was a record that D’Agostino made largely on his own, with help from Miller and some other friends and acquaintances that came and went. Lenses Alien is a record that D’Agostino, Hamilton, Miller, and Whipple made together, as a band.

At its core, Lenses Alien is a marriage of classic pop forms and ambient haze that makes for a stark, dusky psychedelia. D’Agostino’s vocals, now with support from Hamilton and Whipple, sit daringly at the forefront, and his lyrics are dark, strange, and affecting as ever. Miller and Whipple move the songs as a singular, powerful unit while ornate guitars and Hamilton’s celestial organ and chiming pianos whirl across the sonic landscape. Songs like ‘Definite Darkness’ and ‘Keep Me Waiting’ move with the frenetic urgency of romance that seemingly begins and ends all at once, and ‘Secret Family’ and ‘Wavelengths’ combine Motown-esque turns with impressionistic visions of lost youth and the struggle to retain it. A relentlessly complex listen, Lenses Alien strikes a balance between the archaic and the inviting and is as much a document of doubts and contradictions as of irreverent joy. It’s a varied collection of songs that feels handmade – built from the ground up – and it’s precisely the album Cymbals Eat Guitars was built to make.

Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music. The Brian Jonestown Massacre has been somewhat of a musical commune for many respected musicians over the years, a band from the 1990’s that has spurned other great bands ever since. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, The Silver Rockets, The Black Angels, The Ravenettes, The Dilettantes (to name a few) are all part of this musical family tree. Indeed, this is a band that has witnessed many incarnations, since its inception in San Francisco in 1992. Tracklisting – tracks in bold are previously unavailable on CD before DISC ONE - 1) She Made Me , 2) Evergreen , 3) Convertible , 4) Their Majesties 2nd Request (Enrique's Dream) , 5) Hide & Seek 6) Methodrone (Live at the Compound) , 7) Cold To The Touch , 8) Anemone , 9) Never Ever , 10) Feelers, 11) Not If You Were The Last Dandy On Earth DISC TWO – 12)This Is Why You Love Me , 13) Lantern , 14) Malela, 15) If Love Is The Drug Then I Want To OD , 16) When Jokers Attack , 17) Prozac vs Heroin , 18) Nailing Honey To The Bee , 19) Illuminomi , 20) There’s A War Going On BONUS TRACKS 21) Thoughts Of You by Acid , 22) Never Ever by Acid

TOMMY STINSON has worn many hats over his 30 years in the rock n’ roll business – from founding member of seminal band The Replacements to bassist of Guns N’ Roses and Soul Asylum, and his own bands Bash & Pop and Perfect in between. His experience shines through on One Man Mutiny, his most textured and balanced work to date. Filled with slide guitar-laden riff rockers and lush ballads alike, Tommy proves that he is at his best when he’s in the driver’s seat. Recorded at Stinson’s home recording facility – Bipolarbear Studios – and released on his own Done To Death Music label, the album comes out swingin’, plugged-in and electric, with “Don’t Deserve You” and “It’s A Drag,” covering a lot of stylistic ground before wrapping up with the acoustic title track. One Man

TRACK LIST:

Mutiny is a family affair -- fianceé Emily Roberts sings harmonies throughout

1. DON’T DESERVE YOU 2. IT’S A DRAG 3. MEANT TO BE 4. ALL THIS WAY FOR NOTHING 5. COME TO HIDE 6. SEIZE THE MOMENT 7. ZERO TO STUPID 8. MATCH MADE IN HELL 9. DESTROY ME 10. ONE MAN MUTINY

and accompanies Tommy on his first duet – the poetic and amorous “Destroy Me,” and her uncle Chip Roberts plays all the slide guitar on the album. The album features a bevy of guest appearances; a couple of old friends and some more recent musical partners, including longtime drummer pal Gersh and a co-write with his former Replacements bandmate Paul Westerberg. The album concludes with the title track – a spirited, Loudon Wainwright-esque affair, recorded with Guns n’ Roses cronies Dizzy Reed and Richard Fortus during the wee hours in the restaurant of the Conrad Hotel in Brussels, Belgium while on tour.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Tommy is donating a portion of album proceeds to the Timkatec Schools in Haiti -- a trade school for orphaned and abandoned kids for which Tommy raised over $40,000 last year in an online auction. Tour dates throughout the fall.

MIGUEL ZENÓN Alma Adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook STREET DATE: 08.30.2011 Guggenheim and MacArthur “Genuis” grants-winning, Grammy Award nominated alto saxophonist, composer and arranger Miguel Zenón is a rising star handpicked by Branford Marsalis for his label’s roster. Zenón, who left Puerto Rico to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music (where Marsalis also studied) has been making a name for himself in the jazz world as a leader, a sideman and as a member of the renowned jazz collaborative, the SFJAZZ Collective. Interpreting popular songs is part of the stock in trade of a jazz musician. Now, on Alma Adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook (his fifth for the label), his new recording of classic Puerto Rican songs, Zenón brings that jazz tradition home - his home. Comprised of ten songs by five of the most of the most important Puerto Rican songwriters in history, Bobby Capó, Tite Curet Alonso, Pedro Flores, Rafael Hernández, and Sylvia Rexach, who Zenón refers to as “the George Gershwins, Cole Porters and Jerome Kerns of Puerto Rican song,” Alma Adentro:The Puerto Rican Songbook illustrates the musical and cultural impact these songs have had. Augmenting his core quartet - Luis Perdomo, piano; Hans Glawischnig, bass; and Henry Cole, drums - with a 10-piece wind ensemble, Zenón recorded the group playing in the same room, live “to capture that certain energy.” A deeply personal recording, the music on Alma Adentro has been woven throughout Zenón’s life and it’s clear that his audience shares his love of these songs as many of them frequently approach him after his performances with words of reminiscence about this music. Join the Miguel Zenón Quartet for a very special mainstage appearance at the venerated NEWPORT JAZZ FESTIVAL on August 7, 2011 where, accompanied by the 10-piece wind ensemble and under the baton of maestro Guillermo Klein, they will perform the music of Alma Adentro.

1 Deep Six Saturday 2 Already Made Up Your Mind 3 Behind The Parade 4 Nowhere Drag 5 La Castana 6 Running For Your Life 7 The Long Goodbye 8 Factory Town 9 His Mother’s Son 10 Lies In My Heart

When you’ve been pursuing your craft for the better part of 30 years and approximately a dozen albums without the benefit of universal adulation, you’re either wholly obsessed or doggedly determined. In Tommy Keene’s case, it’s likely a mixture of both. Hailed by some as power pop’s most fervent champion, he has been obsessed with making music for nearly three decades, toiling away with impressive results while winning the respect of a small but loyal group of listeners who hold everything he’s ever offered in the highest esteem. Long before now, Keene should have been welcomed into the pop pantheon, alongside McCartney, Rundgren, Wilson and all the other meticulous musicians long acknowledged for their creativity and consistency. Ask his devotees and they’ll tell you Tommy Keene is the equal of them all. Behind the Parade, Keene’s latest album and his third release on Second Motion (including last year’s career spanning retrospective You Hear Me), scheduled for August 30, 2011 release in three formats (CD, mp3 and limited-edition 180-gram vinyl), provides the latest body of proof. Like its predecessors, the disc affirms his pop proficiency, mastery of his craft and his ability to ensure instant accessibility given the benefit of emphatic hooks, irresistible refrains and the kind of vibrant, jangly melodies that bring to mind a distinctly ’60s sensibility. Keene may once have worshiped at the altar of the Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boys, but his synthesis of sounds transcends these retro references and stirs it into something that’s wholly fresh and exhilarating. Ranging from the proto-Keene jangle of “Already Made Up Your Mind” and the edgy, power pop (no, he doesn’t mind that description — much) storytelling of “Running For Your Life” and “His Mother’s Son” to the moody, ambient instrumental “La Castana” and the horn-infused opener “Deep Six Saturday,” Behind the Parade finds Tommy ably taking a few risks while managing to play to his considerable strengths. Behind the Parade, along with his recent output, shows Keene is akin to an athlete rediscovering his prime, only in this artist’s case, he never left it.

“Despite all those high-powered players, it’s DeMeyer’s own artistry that shines through. With an earthy soulful voice, she comes off something like Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer’s unknown sister, or perhaps like Sheryl Crow… at her finest when she delves into country soul.” - NO DEPRESSION

A

Artists live for those rare moments when everything lines up; when they gather the right songs and the right people in the right place at the right time, and find themselves and their music truly coming alive. Brigitte DeMeyer is experiencing just such a moment. Rose of Jericho is proof. Although this is album number five for DeMeyer, it also marks a trio of significant firsts: her first time taking the reigns as co-producer; her first time recording in Nashville since she made it her home; and her first time telling her stories of balancing motherhood and music. She’d built a solid foundation with her first four albums, collaborating with giants of the Americana world - worldclass drummer and producer Brady Blade especially - and showing herself to have a wonderfully natural feel for country-steeped, blues-infused roots-pop, right down to her supple, peppery singing. It didn’t take DeMeyer long to find kindred musical spirits, even if it did require a little sleuthing. After watching Blade perform with Emmylou Harris’ band Spyboy, she was determined to track him down. He signed on to play on her second album, Nothing Comes Free, produced the next two, Something After All and Red River Flower (he also co-produced Rose of Jericho), and brought in a small army of masterly players and singers he knew would appreciate what she was doing, like Buddy Miller (with whom she’s since shared the stage on more than one occasion), Steve Earle, Tony Hall, Ivan Neville, Daniel Lanois, the Indigo Girls’ Emily Saliers, Phil Madeira, Chris Donohue, Regina McCrary and Al Perkins (who invited her to join his European tour). On the new album, DeMeyer expanded her impressive stable of collaborators with contributions from full-throated force of nature Mike Farris, guitar gurus Will Kimbrough and Doug Lancio and virtuoso Sam Bush.

DeMeyer steers the proceedings with expert aplomb, effusing an ache and passion that becomes immediately effecting. A budding talent now in full bloom. Features musicians Buddy Miller, Brady Blade, Chris Donohue, Al Perkins, The McCrary Sisters

Highlights: “Brigitte DeMeyer surrounds herself with some big names, including Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, Daniel Lanois, but the most significant contributor is drummer/producer Brady Blade. His thoughtful arrangements, built upon organic and atmospheric elements, provide the perfect setting for DeMeyer’s soulful vocals. The results sound something like Sheryl Crow backed by Emmylou Harris’ Spyboy band (no surprise considering Blade served as Spyboy’s drummer). Impressive from start to finish.” - No Depression

The relaxed bluesy mood would have fit in well with mainstream FM rock radio in the early to mid-’70s, recalling at times the early work of Bonnie Raitt and Little Feat. In fact, Lowell George’s “Roll ‘Em Easy” is covered. Features musicians Brady Blade, Tony Furtado, and Ivan Neville.

July 2000 marked a new milestone for Brigitte DeMeyer, as she released her self-written and produced debut cd, Another Thousand Miles. While her sweet voice and expressive vocalization are at the forefront of the band’s sound, it is the intersection of country and soul that probably best describes the flavor of Another Thousand Miles.

PARANOID C A S T L E CHAMPAGNE NIGHTMARES

FFINC029 CD : PARANOID CASTLE CHAMPAGNE NIGHTMARES RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 30, 2011

Bay Area emcee Kirby Dominant and Canadian producer Factor have both been at it for a decade plus, putting out consistent quality material on their respective fronts. In 2001 they found common ground, began recording together under the moniker Paranoid Castle and eventually released their debut collaboration One Way Ticket on Side Road Records in 2004. Kirby’s path to the fruits of the now was a bit bumpier than that of his contemporaries. By the age of 17 he had already been selling dope, locked up and shot. He was able to drastically shift gears and move forward at UC Berkeley, where he spent his financial aid checks on making an album. A string of successful releases on Rapitalism Records along with his Dominant Mammals collabo with Moka Only brought Kirby to the forefront of west coast indie rap and drew praise from the likes of URB Magazine and the San Francisco Guardian. Factor has produced full-lengths for a who’s who of underground talent ranging from Awol One to Moka Only to Gregory Pepper in addition to his own lush, melodic solo endeavors. His larger-than-life palette incorporates bone-shattering drums spliced with meticulous samples and live instrumentation. From the virtual obscurity of Saskatoon to sought-after super-producer status, Factor’s travels have included working and touring alongside Kool Keith, Tha Liks, Sadat X, Aesop Rock and Buck 65. 2011 finds the duo of Kirby Dominant and Factor reunited as Paranoid Castle with their most focused collaboration to date. The years between the group’s releases gave them the opportunity to explore disparate musical avenues while still building chemistry as a crew with Kirby featuring on all of Factor’s solo projects. Champagne Nightmares, the duo’s debut on Fake Four, delicately careens between playful party anthems and introspective treatises on loss and being lost. While sections of the record find Kirby popping bottles and toasting to the good life, something in the way of Factor’s piercing aural brilliance brings out the vulnerable side of the NorCal rapper via bangers such as “Orca” and “Some Place Else.”

GIANT SAND — Black Out (25th Anniversary Edition) FORMAT - CD LABEL - Fire Records UPC - 809236119025 CATALOG # - FIRECD190 LIST PRICE - $17.99

Fire Records re-issues the rare and regarded „Black Out‟ recording from 1993. Forged from the embers of the recording session which was „Purge & Slouch‟ , and wholly acoustic, this collection of takes was originally released only in Germany. „Black Out‟ sits proudly amidst the Giant Sand re-issue project. “When we gathered for the grand experiment of 'purge & slouch” Howe Gelb recalls, “the idea of which was to record without having written anything prior for it .” Some actual songs did pop out , perhaps for the sake of warm-up or while mics were being wired .. maybe just for the sake of vigorous deployment .. re-living some old songs there and then, we bundled „em up after the fact for what would become "stromausfall" instead. ” “This was a limited batch release on a small German label who took my original title "black out" and translated it .. the idea being that this is the sound that would happen during one .. songs without electricity attached”. Since then, most of that original pressing made in Germany has mysteriously self destructed so it is with pleasure we have the opportunity to release the album again, including a bonus piano track for when the city goes dark.

GIANT SAND —Glum

FORMAT - CD LABEL - Fire Records UPC - 809236117625 CATALOG # - FIRECD176 LIST PRICE - $17.99 1994s „Glum‟ was to be Giant Sand„s largest record and in order to make it so, Howe Gelb invited everyone along to the party. This carnival help create Giant Sand‟s best record to date and „Glum‟ is now proudly re-issued by Fire. Howe Gelb explains Glum„s story, “This was our best record for a long time. It had Malcolm Burn producing it with me and it was done up at Daniel Lanois' studio in New Orleans. Since it was our first big budget session, I tried to get everyone who ever took part on a Giant Sand record to come to Dan's mansion and stay and be on the record somewhere. This made the atmosphere in the house more entangled then it had to be, but seemed like the way it should be. For some reason I began singing like an old man on this record, or maybe was inspired too much from my new talking distortion pedal on my guitar. At the moment this record was due to be released, the label shut down its operations and it got lost. but these things have a life of their own. (I wrote 'faithful' for Marianne, whom I just met through our label rep, kate Hyman. When she heard it she said: "but Howe, where is the melody ?") ... and that's the story of my life.”

GIANT SAND—Goods and Services (25th Anniversary Edition)

FORMAT -CD LABEL - Fire Records UPC -809236117823 CATALOG # - FIRECD178 LIST PRICE - $17.99 1995‟s „Goods And Services‟ was another for German ears only. It„s re-issue will bring it to the attention of new fans as part of the series. Once not remembered fondly by Giant Sand‟s Howe Gelb, time has been kind and his perception has softened with the memories of Vic Chesnutt„s contrbution. “Another live record. but this sound was bloated from euro touring and was supposed to be a re-ection of only how it was sounding then. Later, that made less sense to me since every tour the band sound would change anyway. So I am not in love with this record and thusly never made it available for the states. But now, looking back on it, it brings a smile. . . . and also moistens the eye with the missingness of Pappy and Vic Chesnutt.”

If indeed “you blows who you is,” as Louis Armstrong once famously said, then Stephen Brunerʼs bass is a mainline to the soul of a man whose DNA was transcribed from the stars onto staff paper. His Flying Lotus-produced debut, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, offers both stone-cold skill and uncanny astrality, picking up where the pair left off on 2010ʼs Cosmogramma and further distilling the jazz current running through that landmark Lotus release. A longtime contributor to othersʼ albums, Bruner, aka Thundercat, is accompanied by an impressive cast ranging from Erykah Badu to members of Sa-Ra and J*DaVeY, to pianist Austin Peralta and his own Grammy-winning brother, drummer Ronald Bruner, Jr. Still, the end result is unmistakably a Thundercat record -- a lush and magical document combining classic jazz fusion, futurist electronic strains and timeless musical seeking. A native of South Los Angeles, Bruner found his instrument at the age of 4. That made him a late-bloomer in the house of Ronald, Sr., who drummed with the Temptations among others. His first bass was a black Harmony, and he practiced to the Ninja Turtles soundtrack until pops played him Jaco Pastorius. School was a blur of lessons, sessions and waking up for zero periods. At 15, he scored a hit in Germany as part of the short-lived boy band No Curfew. At 16, he toured Japan with soul man Leon Ware and joined thrash legends Suicidal Tendencies (heʼs still their bassist). More road and studio time followed, with everyone from Stanley Clarke to Snoop Dogg to Eric Benét. Eventually the name Thundercat stuck, a reference to the cartoon heʼs loved since childhood and an extension of Brunerʼs wide-eyed, vibrant, often superhuman approach to his craft. As one writer put it, heʼs “a mutant jazz cat,” nuff said. Spanning a cosmic stew of players, locations and times, The Golden Age of Apocalypse was years in the making even though Bruner had never planned on releasing his own music. But Lotus spurred him on, and each song became a journey. Thereʼs the ebullient “Daylight,” a soft whirl of bluesy piano, New Age synth, snapping beats and warm bass. Thereʼs “Walkinʼ,” an upbeat soul strutter powered by Brunerʼs digitally distorted plucks. There are raw, improvised numbers like “Jamboree” and virtuosic bass pileups like “Fleer Ultra.” One of the albumʼs most stunning moments arrives with a spacious cover of George Dukeʼs “For Love I Come,” a taut beauty spangled with crystalline harp and keys. Bringing this string of divinely unexpected moments to a moody and cinematic close is “Return to the Journey.” There, Bruner sings, “Time will pass us by,” but listeners neednʼt worry. Inside of this space, time really isnʼt a thing

Volume 1: Frozen Ropes & Dying Quails

NATIONAL release date: lp - 08.30.2011 Rock n’ roll vets Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5, R.E.M.,Young Fresh Fellows) and Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Gutterball, Danny & Dusty, Miracle 3) have an unhealthy love for music undermined only by an even more unhealthy love of baseball. The compatriots blend their two passions with The Baseball Project -- Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails, an album of buzzing guitars and baseball back stories. The heroes and villains of America’s (in) famous pastime are explored with cutting wit and fanboy detail in songs that satisfy both the summer’s need for rock anthems and sweltering afternoon double-headers. Drummer Linda Pitmon (Miracle 3, Golden Smog) and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck round out the squad, as they spin tales of ill-fated drinking binges (‘The Yankee Flipper’, ‘The Death of Big Ed Delahanty'), near mythical icons (‘Ted Fucking Williams’), folk heroes ('Fernando', 'Satchel Paige Said') and, on 'Gratitude (For Curt Flood)', the overlooked man who changed the game. A passionately funny and sarcastically reverent commentary on the state of the sport, The Baseball Project provides a hip soundtrack to the backstage party at America’s game. Dark Ocean Colors is made up of Scott Hunt and Mark Mikel from Toledo, Ohio – two longtime friends and collaborators who have worked on many projects (including The Pillbugs and The Sprags) as a writing/recording duo. The self-titled CD offers 10 new songs that focus on pop songwriting as well as psychedelic sonic textures in a rock and roll landscape featuring rich production and unusual blend of vocals and various instruments (guitars, piano, drums, Mellotron, violins, brass, tape loops, sitar, Moog, electric harpsichord, flute, backward sounds and feedback). “It was not an easy album to make by any stretch,” says Mikel. “We were working with old analog gear and a tape machine held together by rubber bands. We made it a lot harder on ourselves by constantly looking for the wrong way to begin a track. For example, maybe we’d begin with a backing vocal part, which is usually one of the last things you’d add to a song. We’d take these odd avenues to get to the end destination. If we didn’t break rules or take our methods into bizarre territory, we felt we couldn’t achieve that moment of surprise. We’re always trying to surprise ourselves.” Studio experimentation is only part of the magic of Dark Ocean Colors. Anyone listening with even only half an ear will notice infectious hook after infectious hook. “Songwriting is how we came together. We were always fans of each other’s songs,” says Mikel.

track listing

The first track is the Beach Boys and the Association stepping into the twenty-first century. The rest of the album is lysergic XTC, with touches of Roxy Music, flourishes of ELO and 80s post-Smiths jangly guitar – even a more psychedelic Fleet Foxes.

JEROME FROESE - Nightshade Family

FORMAT - CD LABEL - Moonpop UPC - 4260096547049 CATALOG # - MOONCD704 LIST PRICE - $17.99 After many requests for a live release Tangerine Dream man, Jerome Froese has decided to make this live document from one of his few past concerts available. This release features the full concert without any overdubs. Outstanding „guitartronica‟ from the seven-time Grammy nominated artist and essential for all Tangerine Dream enthusiasts worldwide. After his debut 'Neptunes' (2005) which received a lot of kudos from both press and listeners in the UK and the USA, Froese is taking his musical vision one step further towards the creation of his individual sound called 'Guitartronica'. Sequences, pads and effects, triggered by guitars, are combined with traditional licks and solos, creating a mixture that is nothing short of unique. The second album called 'Shiver Me Timbers' (2007) gradually unfolds its hypnotic, almost meditative qualities, evolving into a both very vibrant and extremely laid-back sonic experience of Dream Pop, modern Electronica and Rock guitars. In 2011, Jerome definitely has something up his sleeve, he's currently working on his third studio album called 'Far Side Of The Face' and he's also involved in a new electronic music project named 'LOOM' together with long time TD member Johannes Schmoelling & Berlin based producer Robert Waters.

“(Bloom) offers up a fine, beautifully understated debut solo album...” - Direct Current Music “…Bloom’s songwriting is sharp, and he proves himself to have an idiosyncratic songwriting voice, choosing some clever, unexpected imagery throughout the album.” - Slant Magazine Los Angeles-based Mike Bloom is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is cofounder of The Elected with Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley and a member of Julian Casablancas’ band. After years of contributing to critically acclaimed recordings by Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis and others, his debut solo album King of Circles was released on cd & digital on June 7th on Pierre de Reeder’s (Rilo Kiley) Little Record Company. Now on vinyl 8.30.11. All of the songs were written, most instruments played, and every song produced and mixed by Mike (with the exception of a few co-productions). His songwriting is at once uniquely his own, and curiously familiar. The warm, bedroom intimacy draws listeners in - there is a wealth of instrumentation and sonic detail augmenting the vocal/acoustic guitar centerpiece. King of Circles was originally funded by actor Tobey Maguire before landing at de Reeder’s new label. Songs with more than a little in common with the canon of Carson McCullers abound on King of Circles. The scornful woman in “Floataway Sinner” extracts revenge on her hapless victim, saying “Hold on baby, don’t you float away sinner, Gonna pay for your acts, and that’s all” – her closing shot reveals a moral compass off course when she explains, “…us long shots ain’t supposed to win clean”. “Butcher Paper” started life as a guitar piece he recorded – when Jenny Lewis heard it she whipped out a set of lyrics and recorded it over Mike’s playing and sent it back to him. An evocative love song with starkly vivid lyrics resulted with this refrain, “Wrapped in twine, the butcher’s paper, my bloody heart inside”. Longtime friend/bandmate Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley, The Elected) contributes vocals on “Til It’s Over” (The Elected have an album coming out in May as well, Mike co-produced and plays a multitude of instruments) The title track addresses emotional ambiguity as a form of revenge; “Dry Land” paints the picture of a long marriage at its expiration date with gentle acoustic guitar and Bloom’s lyric, “…this is the empty glass at the party’s end.” “Devil’s Island” can be heard in the new Sony Pictures thriller, The Roommate. With his packed schedule touring and doing recording sessions, the songs were written and recorded over a period of years. “Some came directly from my bedroom demos and landed on the record almost untouched,” he explains “Some are much older than others, but they still felt like they belonged here.” Touring in the US and Europe, he honed the songs the old fashioned way, in front of live audiences.

The vinyl comes in a gatefold 180 grm format .The conception that became The Third Sound was first formed when former Singapore Sling and Hudson Wayne member H‚kon Aƒalsteinsson left his home of Iceland and music collective Vebeth to the contrasting rooftops of Rome. Drawing from his roots of shoegaze neo-psychedelia he made slight of hand gestures towards country, blues and Kraut and recorded his first album with 60's aficionado Francesco D'Onofrio . Returning home he finished the album with guitar prodigy Hallberg Daƒi Hallergsson(Jakobinarina), and began experimenting with new mixing techniques being inspired by a theory known as The Third Sound. To materialize the band that would explore this concept, he moved to Berlin to form an internationally diverse five piece band hailing from as far as France, Sweden, Venezuela, New York and Australia idyllically representing the new eclectic Berlin sound. Sharing the stage with Anton Newcombe (Brian Jonestown Massacre) as well as Kid Congo in their first few shows and joining the priors record company A Records to release a special vinyl pressing in July 2011, the band is set for their summer German, Scandinavian and upcoming central European tour.

NEW RELEASES FOR 30th August 2011

KANSAS—Vinyl Confessions

FORMAT - CD LABEL - Rock Candy UPC - 827565057283 CATALOG # -CANDY095 LIST PRICE - $21.99 Special Limited Deluxe Collector’s Edition / Re-mastered - Sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology by Jon Astley (the Who, Judas Priest, Eric Clapton etc) 12 page full colour booklet – 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and full artist involvement. ‘Vinyl Confessions’, originally released in 1982, manages to remain true to the roots of Kansas, while at the same time noticeably moving from the band’s traditional sound of the ’70s into the more AOR-friendly ’80s. The impact of spiritualism on this version of Kansas can certainly be heard in the lyrics, too, but it would be wrong to define this album as a Christian record .It doesn’t attempt to bludgeon you to death with its message and, above all, it doesn’t neglect the most important thing of all, which is, of course, the music.

KANSAS —Drastic Measures

FORMAT - CD LABEL - Rock Candy UPC - 827565057290 CATALOG # - CANDY096 LIST PRICE - $21.99 Special Limited Deluxe Collector’s Edition / Remastered - Sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology by Jon Astley (the Who, Judas Priest, Eric Clapton etc) / 12 page full colour booklet – 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and full artist involvement. ‘Drastic Measures’, originally released in 1983, was the band’s second album to feature new vocalist John Elephante – an appointment made necessary after the departure of Steve Walsh. Not surprisingly, the band’s sound was evolving, moving with the times and displaying a more accessible timbre. Sure, the progressive rock element was still entirely audible but the songs and delivery fitted into the jet stream of men on a mission. AOR for sure but with an edge and urgency that leaves little room for debate.

STRANGEWAYS - Strangeways

FORMAT - CD LABEL - Rock Candy UPC - 827565057924 CATALOG # -CANDY098 LIST PRICE - $15.99 Special Limited Deluxe Collector’s Edition / Five bonus tracks / Fully Re-mastered Sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / 12 page full colour booklet – 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and full involvement from the artist. Based in Glasgow, the band’s ambition was as far reaching as their music, writing and demoing until they found a home with production / management company Bonaire, the people behind popular Canadian pomp rockers Saga. Paired with renowned producer Kevin Elson (Journey, Europe etc) the band cut this, their debut album, in Zurich, Switzerland and finished it in Pete Townshend’s Eel Pie and The Kinks Konk studios, London.

STRANGEWAYS - Native Sons FORMAT - CD LABEL - Rock Candy UPC - 827565057948 CATALOG # - CANDY100 LIST PRICE - $21.99 Special Limited Deluxe Collector’s Edition / Two bonus tracks / Fully re-mastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / 16 page full colour booklet – 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and full involvement from the artist. Strangeways debut album signalled the start of a intense love affair between the band and fans of melodic rock but it was the appearance of ‘Native Sons’ that took that spark of romance and turned it into an explosive cauldron of red-hot passion. STRANGEWAYS - Walk In The Fire FORMAT - CD LABEL - Rock Candy UPC - 827565057931 CATALOG # -CANDY099 LIST PRICE - $21.99

Special Limited Deluxe Collector’s Edition / Four bonus tracks / Fully re-mastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / 12 page full colour booklet – 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and full involvement from the artist. ‘Walk In The Fire’, originally released in 1988, continues Strangeways’ path of AOR excellence. It is a record erupting with great songs and tremendous performances, whilst boasting a depth that continues to satisfy to this very day. Vocalist Terry Brock is on fire, cementing his reputation as one of the greatest vocalists of the genre, whilst the songs ring with a clarity that has few rivals; a classic for sure.

ROMEO’S DAUGHTER —Delectable

FORMAT - CD LABEL - Rock Candy UPC - 827565057917 CATALOG # - CANDY097 LIST PRICE - $21.99 Special Limited Deluxe Collector’s Edition / Bonus Track / Re-mastered - Sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / 16 page full colour booklet – 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and full involvement from the artist. Romeo’s Daughter were, undoubtedly, viewed as the great white hope; they were the saviours of the scene, the band most likely to succeed. They had it all; an astonishing lead vocalist, killer musicianship, superbly crafted songs and a dedicated label .That ‘Delectable’ ultimately failed to secure a foot hold to enormo-dome success was not the fault of the band or record, but more a sign of the times .Despite everything it remains one of the most revered albums of all the period.
