A Map Of The Floating City RElease date 10.25.11
Thomas Dolby, the iconic ’80s star whose smash hits “She Blinded Me With Science” and “Hyperactive” helped define the MTV generation/ revolution, will break his 20-year silence with A Map of the Floating City. The album, featuring appearances by special guest artists Mark Knopfler, Regina Spektor, Natalie MacMaster, Bruce Woolley, Imogen Heap and Eddi Reader, will be will be released on Lost Toy People Records as a physical CD, and in a special Deluxe Edition featuring a second disc of instrumentals and bonus tracks. Of the album, which is divided into three parts, Dolby says, “The new songs are organic and very personal. A Map of the Floating City is a travelogue across three imaginary continents: In Amerikana I’m reflecting with affection on the years I spent living in the U.S.A., and my fascination with its roots music. Urbanoia is a dark place, a little unsettling . . . I’m not a city person. And in Oceanea I return to my natural home on the windswept coastline.” Artist: Thomas Dolby Title: A Map Of The Floating City Label: Lost Toy People Cat # Standard: CD-LTP-001 Deluxe: CD-LTP-002 UPC: Standard: 634457552623 Deluxe: 634457552722 List Price: Standard: 13.99 Deluxe: 29.99 Box Lot: Standard: 30 Deluxe: 20 Territories: United States and Canada only
To help tell his stories, Dolby has enlisted an impressive cast of guest musicians. Legendary guitarist Mark Knopfler helps drive the epic “17 Hills,” a song about a pair of hapless lovers and a jailbreak. Natalie MacMaster, the Cape Breton fiddler, adds spice to two songs. Scottish singer Eddi Reader takes a front seat on the ethereal “Oceanea.” Bruce Woolley (Camera Club) plays theremin. And Regina Spektor has a cameo as an East European waitress on “Evil Twin Brother.” The innovative transmedia game The Floating City, co-created by Dolby and based on his song catalog all the way back to the 1980s, is currently in full swing and is proving highly addictive for thousands of regular players. The winning “tribe” will be treated to a private concert performance of the new album in its entirety. Thomas Dolby will shortly announce a string of concert dates in the U.S. and U.K. in support of the album. Marketing Points Publicity: National and Regional press handled by Cary Baker at Conqueroo. EL REGO
S T E R E O C O M PAT I B L E
DAP-023
El Rego is a true legend of African Soul Music. Here for the first time on album are 12 of his greatest recordings from the late 60’s and early 70’s hand-picked by Daptone Records. Afro-Soul collector/ DJ Frank Gossner had spent years combing West Africa tracking down 45’s by Theophile Do Rego (aka El Rego) before finally meeting him face to face in his home in Benin. From that relationship came this album, which we present to you here in a 20 page hardcover Bookcase CD featuring El Rego’s own story of his life and music along with pictures from his personal collection and artwork from his original 45’s. The music has been remastered with great care, and the vinyl contains an exclusive BON US 45’ (while supplies last) of Se Na Min, one of his most sought after afro-funk tracks, backed with E Ma Non Tin Me, a beautiful and somewhat more traditional song about two blind men who agree to go together and leap to their deaths into a river. The music of El Rego varies astoundingly in style and rhythm: traditional rhythms of Benin played with modern instruments, John Lee Hooker-esque blues, Fela Kuti inspired afro-beat, afro-cuban claves, and straight-up James Brown style funk. However, there is a common musical thread that runs throughout. The music has a raw soulfulness and a unique flavor that can be attributed beyond the sound of Benin, to the sound of El Rego himself. There is a timelessness to the recordings that ties all of the traditions that inspire them directly to the grooves that were dominating the radios and jukeboxes of the early 70’s. The record is teeming with breaking drums and twanging guitars, twisting basslines and undulating percussion. But most importantly. the rhythms are all crafted by a man that not only performed, but also owned nightclubs and had an intimate understanding of the importance of dancing. PEGGY SUE ACROBATS
NATIONAL RELEASE DATE: CD: 10.25.2011 New album. New sound. On Acrobats London’s Peggy Sue has put down the acoustic guitars, this time opting instead for buzzing guitars and crackling amps. Recorded with producer of the moment John Parish - known for his extensive work with PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse and EELS - Acrobats keeps the propulsive energy of their former work, but this time the sonics back up the mood. Songwriters Rosa and Katy, and drummer Olly called upon early influences like Sonic Youth and The Breeders when conceiving Acrobats which, coupled with recently acquired electric guitars and a new practice space, released the ferocity that had always been swimming just beneath the surface of the band’s music. Parish successfully harnesses this newly minted electricity, resulting in the fulfillment of several albums and EP’s worth of musical innuendo. Acrobats is certainly still Peggy Sue, but this time we see that behind the wry smile lies a mouthful of sharp, dirty teeth.
“Folky modal tunes, insistent drones and lyrics with biblical and allegorical overtones…they were tales of love, death and transformation, invoking tradition but bristling in the here and now.”-THE NEW YORK TIMES “Driving, swirling acoustic soundscapes”-THE NEW YORKER HIGHTLIGHTS: • Recorded with producer John Parish, best known for his work with PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse and EELS • Peggy Sue toured extensively in Europe with Local Natives and in the U.S., playing shows with Kate Nash • After releasing their debut album Fossils and Other Phantoms in 2010, The Guardian praised their "thrilling" musicianship and awarded the album four stars, while NME called the album "head-over-heels brilliant" TRACKLISTING: 01. On October 25th Rodney Smith aka Roots Manuva will release a brand new studio album, '4everevolution,' via Big Dada/Banana Klan. The album is just a few seconds under an hour long, consists of seventeen tracks and covers every style from wonky reggae through popfunk, street spitting, straight up hip hop, sung ballads and epic death-disco. It deepens much of what Mr Manuva has already achieved over a glorious decade of innovation, but also throws in enough new ideas and adventures to last most creative artists a lifetime. We think it's his very best work since "Run Come Save Me." We're wondering (whisper it) whether it might be his best album ever. Much of “4everevolution” was made in conjunction with various members of Smith’s Banana Klan crew. Production for “Revelation” and string arrangements on Smith’s own “Skid Valley” came from Gibbs King, Ollie and Olmino produced the monster-funk number “Beyond This World.” Meanwhile, current and former band members play drums, guitar and bass on a variety of tracks (as did Mr Manuva himself), while longtime side-man Ricky Ranking crops up with vocal contributions on “Wha’ Mek” and the darkest of toasts on “In The Throes Of It.” DJ MK, meanwhile, adds chorus vocals to “Banana Skank” – a croonsome new direction for the veteran turntablist! – and Daddy Kope spits in the style of UK hip hop’s finest on “Crow Bars.” The only other productions on the record not from Manuva’s own hand arrives via the antipodes. Producers Dizz1 (“Here We Go Again”) and Monkeymarc (“Who Goes There?”) show how much of Manuva’s unquantized lope has been absorbed by producers on the other side of the world. In addition to Ranking and MK, vocal contributions come from Skunk Anansie’s Skin (on the state-ofthe-nation diatribe “Skid Valley,” which also features Skunk Anansie’s legendary bass player, Cass Lewis), new talents Rokhsan (on both first single “Get The Get” and “Beyond This World”) and Elan Tamara (“The Path”) compete for glory with the beauty of the voice of a veteran like Spikey Tee (“Here We Go Again”). Perhaps the most touching singing on the record, though, comes from Manuva himself, who flexes his melodic jones on a trio of tracks which perhaps reaches its peak on the loping, self-effacing ballad “Wha’ Mek?” Overall, despite the presence of this or that guest, the vision remains that of one man. Roots Manuva has honed his craft across four previous studio albums, picking up a MOBO, plus Brit and Mercury nominations along the way. This record, though, represents some of his freshest, most urgent work. Whether castigating politicians or his own failings, joking about girls or spinning yarns about men in love with their computers, ruminating on the void at the heart of "urban" music or bigging himself up, crooning an apology or growling ridiculous sex rhymes, Roots Manuva remains one of the foremost lyricists and musicians of his generation. Cherish him – he’s the very best we’ve got. First pressing of CDs will be in limited edition deluxe packaging. Subsequent pressings will be in standard digipak's, so order fast to avoid disappointment.

book & soundtrack by Kid Koala
He’s the guardian robot programmed to protect the sweetest astronaut on this (or any) planet. But when she blasts off on a solo mission of outer-space adventure, he is left to wonder... What now? A tomorrow-days lullaby about finding your place in the universe.
Kid Koala is back with his second graphic novel, space cadet. Painstakingly drawn entirely on etchboards for a stunning effect in black and white, the book is accompanied by a "still picture score" on CD -- 15 original tracks, each underscoring a key scene in the book, composed and performed by Kid Koala on piano and turntable. This charming story of an adventurous space cadet and her guardian robot unfolds through a series of flashbacks and flash-forwards to reveal a unique bond between the characters. As it explores the relationship between technology and isolation, space cadet celebrates the idea of connectivity through family and the cycles that build generations.

NINJA TUNE NEW 12" RELEASE FOR OCTOBER 2011 MR SCRUFF - FEEL IT! Cat #: ZEN12297 Format: 12” Barcode: 5021392698168 Box Lot: 20 Label: Ninja Tune SRP: $9.99
The scruffalicious Sexpot of the Stockpot returns with another rum punch of housy, funky deepness in which the filthy, the furious and those in need of a brew will swim like little fishes in search of Our Lord. “Feel It!” has a rhythm designed by Long John Silver’s wooden leg, a bit of ghostly moaning from Hammer Horror’s lost disco classic, “Across The Moor To Studio 54,” some of the finest one-handed keyboard playing ever left unquantised, plus choppy, soulful vox for those moments when only waving your outstretched index finger and thumb right in front of your nose will do. “Bounce,” on the other hand, has some of the finest one-handed keyboard playing ever left unquantised since “Feel It!” and a thumpier, most insistent build, that goes all polyrhythmic and hypnotic and quite subtly, shimmeringly brilliant on yer. After some of his jazzier work-outs, this latest release showcases a new, stripped-back, buff Mr Scruff, all six-pack and tremendous abs, a bearded wonder of northern manliness.

How do you get to Heaven from Jacksonville, Florida? Beats the hell out of us, but Owen Holmes, aka Gospel Music, has an idea. The indie-pop songwriterʼs debut LP takes its title — and its cover art — from a turn-or-burn evangelical tract he used to hand out as a Southern Baptist teenager. While his fundamentalist worldview started showing cracks around the time he found out there are 400,000 species of beetles, his Bible Belt upbringing made an indelible impression, even if the gospel heʼs now spreading is one of the dive bar, the faltering romance, the boiled peanut. The last time we heard from Gospel Music — on 2010ʼs duettes EP — Holmes was collaborating with members of The Magnetic Fields, Camera Obscura and other likeminded artists, creating a sound critics compared to Jonathan Richman, Silver Jews and The Vaselines. On How To Get To Heaven From Jacksonville, FL, he further develops his homespun lo-fi, layering toy piano, organ and banjo over jangly guitars, bouncy basslines and minimalist drums. His playful, conversational baritone sits squarely between that of David Berman and Lou Reed, while lots of syrupy female vocals, this time from his Jacksonville friend Madeline Long, provide the perfect foil. At the center of it all are Holmesʼs pithy lyrics. Lead single “This Town Doesnʼt Have Enough Bars For Both Of Us” finds him trying to avoid an obstreperous ex during a night out (“Iʼm not drinking anymore / but Iʼm not drinking any less”). In “Bedroom Farce,” he and Long play lovers smitten with, respectively, a special-education teacher and a Proust enthusiast who are themselves lovers — “guess weʼre stuck with each other,” he and Long conclude. “Letʼs Run” is a Velvet-Underground-informed ode to long-distance running, with a promise to his partner of “a beer for each mile when weʼre done.” (Holmes is a Boston-Marathon-qualifying runner.) “Apartment” features Long in a twee-pop gem that would be at home on an old Sarah Records comp, while Holmes wears his Magnetic Fields influence on his sleeve in album closer “You Donʼt Have To Be Alone (But You Canʼt Be With Me).” Holmes made the record at home in Jacksonville and recruited Charles Newman (Stephin Merrittʼs engineer) for mixing. A copy of the original How To Get To Heaven From Jacksonville, FL pamphlet is included in the vinyl version of the album, set to be released on Oct. 25. Thatʼs also when Holmes takes the Gospel on the road, with Long and a similarly good-looking backing band in tow. God bless Gospel Music.
Press Quote:
l
“Holmes naturally has the low, gravelly voice and occasional monotone of Calvin Johnson or Adam Green, and he has smartly crafted raw, minimalist songs in the vein of Beat Happening or the Moldy Peaches to fit those vocals. … [T]he lyrics, which eschew complicated metaphors or grand ideas, are clever and conversational, like something a friend or the drunk on the next barstool has said to you before. … [F]ans of lo-fi pop would be hard-pressed not to be won over by his lyrical specificity, melodic infectiousness, and vocal collaborators.” — Pitchfork

Though a newly formed voice of Prurient is clearly prominent on this release, a line drawn from the past to the present is visible throughout. As the EP progresses echoes of Fernow's assaultive past explosions creep steadily to the forefront, culminating in the furious blizzard of the closing instrumental version of "Slavery in the Bahamas". This is not a calculated reassurance for fans of old that Fernow is still capable of his former feats of unbridled harshness, but rather a reminder that no one can fully escape the past, no matter however continual the process of regeneration and renewal might be - the line of time connects the then to now and onwards.

"Bold, original and astonishingly well-produced throughout, Bermuda Drain really is a new peak in Prurient's prolific career" - Boomkat / Album of the Week "After a decade of forging the most jagged, invasive noise imaginable, Fernow has moved ahead, tempering his menace with a broader range of texture and tone. And yes, even melody. The result is Prurient’s strongest statement to date, and its best album." - The A.V. Club "Bermuda Drain is full of distortion-free keyboard, perverse disco beats, moments of beauty, even hooks... Fernow wants to shake you up, unnerve you, make you understand just how fragile "beautiful" music is." - Pitchfork

If noise music, the genre to which Prurient has most often been assigned, is about confrontation, exploration and defying expectations, this release measures up on all counts. Yet, much of what made past work identifiable as noise music - harsh textures, screams washed in seas of static, clanging unidentified percussion - is now gone. Those elements which formerly provided a valuable counterpoint to the harsh din of Prurient's core sound - buried melodies, passages of relative serenity, and occasional spoken word bits - have come to the fore. A sense of naked clarity and uncomfortable intimacy now brings the listener closer to the world as described the music, rather than pushing away the would be voyeuristic observer. This is best illustrated on the title track of the EP, "Times Arrow", where a glistening synth melody lays atop an undeniably dancey beat, over which a fragmented, but clearly discernible narrative is intoned. Sinister in character to be sure, but also clearly without any element that could be described as overtly aggressive.

For many artists who have careers that span more than an album or two, there are often various lines visible in their work - a line from origin to current form, lines between different paradigms of sound, lines across which fans of different manifestations of the artist will not cross. Prurient in 2011 is drawing just such lines, and Time's Arrow proves this point explicitly. Here we bear witness to Dominick Fernow's long running project once again evolving, unfolding, permutating. Taking a bold step away from the sounds which drew attention his way in the formative years, he is clearly moving towards something new, something still taking form in the present moment. Unsettling perhaps for followers of Prurient's former incarnations, but extremely important for the longevity and vitality of a determinedly restless and inventive musician as Fernow has consistently proved himself to be.

Experimental Pop
Tav Falco’s historico-musico revue, Panther Burns, originated in 1979 at the nadir of Memphis' postmodern, post-Beale, post-Sun, post-Stax era, when the Mississippi River town had seemingly disappeared from the cultural map and shriveled into an obsolescent landmark. Only groups like the Dixie Flyers, Mud Boy and the Neutrons, Big Star and Panther Burns were intent to keep the fires burning with or without commercial success, and their contribution to experimental pop music, dirty rock 'n roll and the blues revival have been incalculable. The band quickly became a favorite in New York City, as well, where No Wave was emerging at the time. Rough Trade Records enthused over the band and released Panther Burns' debut album Behind The Magnolia Curtain, featuring Alex Chilton, in 1981. Falco continues to perform with Panther Burns, appearing at events like the It Came From Memphis series at The Barbican Centre in London in 2005. Recent performances included 2006's Arthur NIGHTS festival at the historic Palace Theatre in Los Angeles, 2007's Fondation Cartier in Paris, 2008's headlining performance at the Strade Blu Festival in Tredozio, Italy, and 2009's Alternatilla Festival in Mallorca, Spain, and the Barreiro Rocks Festival in Lisbon 2010. He also appeared in By The Ways, a documentary film about color photographer William Eggleston, and enjoyed a retrospective of his films in April, 2006, at the prestigious La Cinémathèque Française. The newest release, CONJURATIONS: Séance for Deranged Lovers – just recorded in a secret studio in Saint-Germaindes- Prés on Paris' left bank – is the definitive masterpiece of the Panther Burns. Refining the themes explored by the group over their career: unrequited love, betrayal, and lost causes, the new record is composed of all original songs. CONJURATIONS consummates Falco's vision with a particularly poetic, yet turbulent thrust. His exceptional voice, described by one journalist as sounding like Marlene Dietrich under torture, evokes the phenomenal fires of the Panther Burns and is supported by a line-up of players devoted to the band over the past decade: Giovanna Pizzorno – drums; Grégoire Cat – guitar; and Laurent Lanouzière – bass. The release of The Blue Angel Lounge is special in two ways, it is the 10th realease on 8MM Musik and also it is the 1st german band signed by the label..The band was introduced to 8MM Musik, by the former Spacemen 3 bass player Will Carruthers, The label was impressed by the very unique and adult sound of the very young band (22-24 years old) from Hagen. Not only the bands name is related to The Velvet Underground, also the sound can be clearly identified. Opposite to many other bands who tried to sound like TVU, The Blue Angel manage to sound fresh, authentic and distinct. It is their juvenile lightness that allows them to mix the sound of the late sixties with 90ies shoegazer and todays neoshoegazer. Other influences, My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, Galaxy 500, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Singapore Sling, The December Sound, The Warlocks. The band was formed 2005 by Nils Ottensmeyer and Dennis Melster,. Over the years other musicians came and went. 2008 The Blue Angel Lounge was invited to play the Dream Machine Festival in Sheffield, what led to the contribution of their song The God to the Open Your Mind compilation which was voted DIY Compilation Of The Week by the BBC. the widow blades
reigns Whilst growing up in the country, Reigns Operatives A & B, from an early age became aware of the bizarre, yet inconclusive, fate of a woman from a neighbouring village. It took some years (and a great deal of wading through a seemingly endless stream of local conjecture) for them to ascertain that the woman in question was Millicent Blades: a middle-aged widow who had disappeared during the blizzard of 1978, vanishing somewhere between the villages of Tup’s Fold and Tone Gulley. Nothing was found of her save a set of interrupted footprints and a pile of clothes – all turned inside out.
Release date 10/25/11
The intervening years have provided much in the way of outlandish theories pertaining to her disappearance but very little in the way of answers. In a possibly futile attempt to reverse this situation and still haunted by the stories they heard as children, Operatives A & B went back to the area to document her final journey across the countryside. Using equipment selected purely on the basis of portability and resistance to the elements (with perfect synchronicity, their week of recordings coincided with the heaviest snowfall since 1978), they recorded at all the key locations that the widow visited (or is thought to have visited) on her final, fateful day: including, amongst others, her house and that of her physician, an Anderson shelter (home to a vagrant who was briefly suspected of her murder), a former tea room that she had frequented since the fifties, a disused tannery, and (for the climactic 20 minute closer, “The Mounds”) an excavated series of barrows; the approximate location of her disappearance. The recordings proffered no conclusive answers: whether this was due to the inclemency of the weather, the passing of time and the resultant cooling of the trail, or the operatives’ disastrous decision to record the entire album under the influence of Hybrium Sulphate (a monstrously unpredictable chemical that the widow had herself been prescribed) is a moot point. The album comes in CD and digital formats and also as a limited (250 copies) deluxe 2LP vinyl edition on 180 gm white vinyl with black splatter, which also includes a numbered A5 lino cut print hand made by the band. It also comes with a free CD of the album. www.reigns.net Tracklisting 1. Over Tone Gulley 2. Hybrium Sulphate 3. The Diagram 4. Four And A Half Minutes Missing 5. I Will Burn For This 6. You know what? It's time for some straight-talking: Piney Gir put the cowboy boots away, shelved the stylophone beatbox, and hit the loudest 12-string open-E chord you ever did hear. Piney Gir released her debut album Peakahokahoo on Truck Records in 2004. She was then the singer and guitarist of all-girl, art-rock, cult faves The Schla La Las. Alongside that, she released Hold Yer Horses, the first Country Roadshow album in 2006 followed by her third album The Yearling on Hotel Records. She came back with a vengeance with the Country Roadshow on Damaged Goods in 2010 for her fourth album Jesus Wept which was widely acclaimed. Now Kansas' most unique songwriter returns with her finest album to date. “Geronimo!” is pure pop brilliance, a tell-it-to-the-Byrds journey into heartbreak, friendship and new love. After these 40 minutes you‟ll have caught the sun and people will ask you where you've been on holiday. And the answer will be “I went to LA in the 60's via the Plastic Ono Band with a twist of Captain Beefheart. I drank the Kool-Aid and I'll never be the same again.” From the quit-the-bar-hittheroad verve of „Let's Get Silly‟, to the romantic opener „Outta Sight‟, you're going to remember why true love matters and why pop music, at least, will never run off with someone else. „Oh Lies‟ captures the scent and mood of the Beach Boys once they'd stopped surfing and started peering Spectorishly across the bar, pining after the kind of sweetheart you'll want to marry and take home to mother. This record moves on mellotrons, effortlessly combining a cool sixties chic with some riotous rockabilly moments. It's the real deal and features guest stars from Brian Wilson‟s percussion section to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club brass (yes, really, The Beatles' brass!). Finally, „Say Goodbye‟ is the kind of closer most bands would sell a bass player to have written, an optimistic funeral march with mariachi trumpets and that tuneful longing for which Piney Gir is renowned. Meanwhile in LA, where the album was recorded with renowned producer Rob Campanella (from the Brian Jonestown Massacre), this album drives everywhere. So get the top down, crank up the volume and... “Geronimo!” Track Listing - 1 Outta Site, 2 Here's Looking At You, 3 Oh Lies, 4 The Longest Day Of Spring, 5 Would You Be There, 6 The Gift, 7 Stay Sweet, 8 Friends And Neighbours, 9 River Song, 10 Let's Get Silly, 11 La De Da, 12 It's Our Time, 13 Say Goodbye

USF (formerly Universal Studios Florida) is an electronic duo that began in the fall of 2008. Band members Kyle Hargus and Jason Baxter released their eponymous debut EP in January 2009, and followed it with the critically-acclaimed full-length Ocean Sunbirds in June 2010, both on Brooklyn’s Little Fury Things Records. Described as “primitive in its joy, and cosmic in its intention” (Chocolate Bobka) and “[a merging of] psychotropic house music with sonic textures long foreign to dance music” (Impose Magazine), Ocean Sunbirds was an attempt at maintaining a uniform feeling across a sixty-minute exploration of imagined landscapes, and was featured in a variety of online and

SKYRIDER & JIM WURSTER ARE
HIRED HAND FFINC031 CD : HIRED HAND HIRED HAND RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 25, 2011 Jim Wurster bailed SkyRider out of jail, amongst other things. Some even say Jim Wurster himself pulled SkyRider from the mangled wreckage of that near-fatal accident in Mexico which left SkyRider in a ten day coma, but that's the stuff legends are made of. One thing is for certain, when Bud Berning made his solo debut as SkyRider, deep in the swamps of Florida, he called upon Jim Wurster to bring out that old guitar he swore he'd never play again. He asked Jim to rerecord his Reagan Era critique piece "Masters of Deception", a song that spoke so powerfully to Berning - as it was just as befitting in of the times of the Bush Era - that he featured it as the only fully worded song on the instrumental album, 47:34, a haunting glimpse into the shattered mind of one trapped by the succubus arms of a coma. The single gained notoriety within underground circles and was a catalyst in the formation of the acclaimed alternative hip hop group, Sole and the Skyrider Band. Now with years of production experience and a strong rapport with his band, multi-instrumental virtuoso William Ryan Fritch and hammersmith John Wagner, Berning has once again united with folk soothsayer Jim Wurster - this time for a full album. Far removed from the murky beginnings in the swamps of Florida, after many years wandering the west - settled in Cheyenne country, an album distinguishingly western. Not Country, but Western.... Hired Hand is far from the glitchy beginnings of SkyRider. The psychedelic soundscapes remain, but the waves of hallucinations are over and now a strong, yet, calm sense of empowerment has taken it's place. A sublime backdrop for Wurster's foreboding words of lost love and the impending 'Dark Skies' that may await us all in the near future. The lyrics are simple, yet poignant for these complicated and bleak times. This is the first album by the Skyrider team without the help of synthesizers or drum machines. Instead of relying on the beat-heavy programming they've used in the past, the band pooled their talents organically to make an album that showcases their collective love of classic rock, country and folk. "Wurster’s rich croon often brings Roy Orbison to mind" - Miami New Times "Jim Wurster's Music is embedded with character and a singular vocal and guitar style that serve as extensions of the man, calling to mind a New Wave Dylan." - JAM Magazine "The standout track happens to be the only non-instrumental offering with Jim Wurster singing and plucking at his guitar on 'Masters of Deception', with a dignified sadness that invokes the oldest and weariest of souls." - EXCLAIM

Tuma is a luminary of the Chicago musical environment from his days as guitarist in pioneering Chicago alt-country band Souled American to his work in the Boxhead Ensemble and Good Stuff House (with Matt Christensen and Mike Weis of Zelienople). PRESS : “Not For Nothing’s a monograph on doing things right; here’s the record where ‘the space between the notes’ is an actual audible reality, rather than some vague, mystifying rhetoric for artists who try to trade off studio silence as atmosphere…It’s the kind of record where the scratch of a fingernail across the guitar’s nut, or the raspy grain of the instrument’s body sliding through Tuma’s hands, speaks more than any lyric formation could; where the nexus of blues, folk and real-world ambience is all about haunting melancholy, as opposed to the drag-ass maudlin boredom of so much Americana.” - Dusted Magazine “Tuma conjures a timeless magical mystery with his guitar. He plays the mysterious traveler, a wandering audio alchemist, turning notes and chords into gold, or rather, golden streaks of dusty memory and soft golden glimpses of some hidden and blurred otherworld. His are sounds to get lost in, to wrap around yourself like some cloak spun from gold thread, to hide under with a flashlight like a child, creating worlds of light and shadow, a sound at once mystical and enigmatic, warm and familiar, and truly truly sublime.” - Aquarius, Record of the Week “Keening vocals hang limply over all but randomly plucked strings and lonesome harmonica, like the score for a silent movie of the old South, running at half-speed, until it finally catches in the projector and burns itself out.” - The Sunday Times “His work is powerfully strange and estranging: it smacks of mutated ground, poisoned water, rust and death.” - Warren Ellis
