Introuducing: “From upbeat electronic music by big names like Berliner Rone and Bachar Mar-Khalife, the Franco-Lebanese pianist and percussionist ... InfiNe aims to encourage a broader appreciation of music among Parisian ears” – New York Times “I sensed a connection and a common approach to art. This desire to venture freely into new territories is what has been driving me since the start of my career and I can see how much Oxygène InFiné provides for its artists.” – Jean Michel Jarre The eclectic label InFiné based in Paris and Berlin launched 7 years ago is now coming to the US. Created by Alexandre Cazac and Yannick Matray in 2006 with techno maverick Agoria, InFiné has cultivated a cutting edge lineup from Bachar (son of Lebanese Composer Marcel Khalife) to Berliner Rone currently producing for The National, keeping electronic music humanist and continuously epic. Releasing 21 albums and 49 EPs in 7 years, InFiné has received international acclaim as Label of the Year in Trax Magazine, featured with12 magazine covers stories and is frequently reviewed by electronic tastemakers Resident Advisor, XLR8R and Pitchfork. InFine has collaborated with Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald, Apparat. We proudly present the finest of the 2013 generation of InFine to the US market for the first time.

Overview:
“earnest and rapturous, gliding elaborately in fast, intelligible currents” – Pitchfork “as versatile as any in the electronic music landscape” – Resident Advisor Istikaliya is the sophomore album from Juilliard trained trio Aufgang, releasing May 14 in the US on InFine Music. Istikaliya means freedom in Arabic, because today more than ever, Aufgang has delivered its unique musical path. With two grand pianos joined by drums on stage, their live show switches on and sweeps away everything in its path. The recording sessions favored live takes to after production editing, capturing the raw alchemy of the trio on stage. The respective influences of the three classically trained musicians make way for a whole new sound, unclassifiable, contemporary and incredibly audacious. NO EXPORTS NO EXPLICIT CONTENT

ANAMANAGUCHI ENDLESS FANTASY Anamanaguchi is a boy band made up of hackers & producers born and raised on the internet, currently living in Brooklyn, NY. On May 14th they are releasing Endless Fantasy through their own brand new label, dream.hax - their first album since soundtracking Scott Pilgrim VS The World in 2010. It's an album about REALITY and DREAMS, being young and searching for agency in an infinite existence. It's a 77 minute adventure through dreamworlds inspired by Japanese video games, raves, oil rainbows on asphalt, pop-punk skate parks, and the best house party. Endless Fantasy features the band's first tracks with female vocals - the high-pitched Hatsune Miku-style melodies on their snowboard fantasy track "Japan Air", and sassy r&b vibes on the electro jam "Prom Night". The first single "MEOW" is part pop-punk, part Beastie Boys with a cat meowing the aggressive & infectous lead vocal. The music video (currently with over 350,000 views on YouTube) is a fever dream version of "The Warriors" in an arcade, where different gangs shred with fourLOKO and play lazer tag, but more importantly try to look cooler than the others. Also, they got moot the founder of 4chan to dress up in cat suit. Their second single "Endless Fantasy" is an atmospheric and emotional electronic dance track that adds stadium production to their 8-bit formula. With 22 tracks on Endless Fantasy, there's sure to be a lot more to come. This album contains explicit language.

Overview “Bibio's sound is sui generis and he's capable of inspiring a few proteges of his own.” -Pitchfork In Steven Wilkinson, aka Bibio’s own words: “If there was a preconceived idea before this album started coming together, it was to do something more organic and live sounding than 2011’s Mind Bokeh.” Bibio loves seasonal change. For him, seasons are like chapters... and so are albums. While creating his new opus, he found a refreshed inspiration interacting with nature, far from the metric walls of the studio: "Some songs started in my garden on a gorgeous sunny day when it felt morally wrong to be indoors. I still had the urge to make music so I selected some gear and took it into my garden, and when I listen to that track, I still hear the sunshine and the garden in them". As for the sound of the album, Bibio strived for what could be called a panoramic filmic sound. A combination of what he'd already learned from the past and what he still wanted to achieve. From this mixture of years of experience and exploration of new sounds results a meditative and mature album. As Stephen says: "I know if I didn't spend so much time listening and thinking about the things around me, this album would sound very different". NO EXPORTS

"Classixx is L.A.'s new dynamite duo" - Miami New Times "Los Angeles-based production duo Michael David and Tyler Blake have built a name for themselves over the last few years as remixers that can turn anything into a slice of summer bliss." - Pitchfork
"Consistently Impressive" - Prefix Mag
One of the world’s most universally respected DJ duos, L.A. natives and childhood best friends Classixx have headlined everywhere from the famed Paris Social Club to New York’s Webster Hall, touring constantly since the release of their exuberant 2009 single “I’ll Get You,” which featured Lady Gaga songwriter Jeppe. Following their breakout single with acclaimed remixes for Phoenix, Holy Ghost, Mayer Hawthorne, Groove Armada, Yacht, Major Lazer, Gossip and others, for the last two years Classixx have been intent on their debut Hanging Gardens, whittling the LP down from hundreds of sessions to a svelte 12 songs. At once beaming, breezy and wistful, Hanging Gardens features a variety of coastal summer anthems, from haunting collaborations with Active Child and Superhumanoids singer Sarah Chernoff, to the gleefully catchy Nancy Whang-featuring “All You’re Waiting For,” French Touchinspired gem “Holding On” and sublime chords of “Dominoes.” Playing a wide array of instruments on Hanging Gardens, Classixx’ full-length debut features impossibly sunny grooves, blithe melodies bred by the coast, coaxed out by the surf, expertly crafted for road trips, pool parties and dance clubs.

A rare recording of DEVO live in concert during their 1981 New Traditionalists tour, extracted from DEVO’s archives. For this tour, DEVO donned the self-designed plastic replicas of Reagan’s lacquered hair look and got to work on synchronized treadmills placed in a stage set featuring a back lit, fast food abomination of a Greek temple with Ionic columns. DEVO were through bein’ cool even though they never started. The look, the show and the songs mutated beyond their satiric underpinnings into something strangely captivating to many and very threatening to others. Once again DEVO struck a raw nerve and served as a cultural litmus test. The press heaped big helpings of praise for their originality and vicious attacks on their “ungodliness” in equal amounts. This CD was cut from a cassette recording of DEVO’s show in Seattle, WA show in November ‘81. DEVO archivist Michael Pilmer (aka Devo-Obsesso), found the tape in a shoebox full of cassettes in Bob No 2’s home fifteen years ago, which he immediately transferred it to DAT. Afterward it promptly disappeared in the flotsam of Devo history. Here resurrected it stands as a testament to Prince’s claim “Devo, you guys are crazy!” Yes, crazy tight and relentless like Caucasian James Browns on marching powder.

Gag A Maggot re-released for the first time on vinyl since ITS original release IN 1973! “This album is so funky that it’ll gag a maggot and drown a drop. Due to the fact that a maggot is the funkiest thing on earth; if this LP can make him gag which it already has, no telling what it’ll do to your funny ass ...”. – Swamp Dogg “Thematically, this seems to be a fairly conventional soul LP -- great cover of ‘In the Midnight Hour’ and lots of love and money in the lyrics. Granted, ‘Wife Sitter’ is as nasty as Jody songs get, mostly because Dogg plays the cuckold-making Jody with such relish. And to call your sweeest love song ‘I Couldn’t Pay for What I Got Last Night’ is to combine the two themes more intimately than most soul men consider necessary. Nor do most soul men drive so hard -Ivan Olander’s drums, Little Beaver’s guitar, even the horns of the Swamp Dogg Band maintain a fierce momentum that’s not conventional at all.” – Robert Christgau (Dean Of American Rock Critics)

L-Vis 1990 Ballads NS014 Night Slugs 14 May 2013 $13.99 funk, grime, disco, house, club black papar sleeve, matte white card outer
TRACKLIST A1 - Ballad 4D B1 - Not Mad B2 - Signal
3 brand new vital club tracks from L-Vis 1990! In the 18 months after releasing his debut album "Neon Dreams" the NS label co-curator, DJ and maverick producer L-Vis 1990 has been firmly refocussed on club music. 2011's "Club Constructions Volume 1" on NS, and more recently his contribution to Clone's Jack For Daze series saw him explore sweat-drenched, jackin analog techno and classic hard-house flipped with a uniquely UK perspective. While the aim of these releases was explicitly to create functional club 'trax' that felt sweltering in the dance, in contrast "Ballads" is L-Vis' first true artist statement since "Neon Dreams" - a set of bizarre, show-stopping pieces designed to spiritually open up the club. With every release the Night Slugs landscape becomes more vivid, rezzing further into existence with each track. 2011 saw "Classical Curves" and "Club Rez EP" inject a previously wireframe environment with dense new texture. The "Ballads" EP continued that process, transposing the listener to the flooded underwater realm of its title track "Ballad 4d". Fans of the track's YouTube rip have dubbed it the 'submarine tune' for its obscene, living bass, like some mechanical whale cry. It's the sound of a '00's Sublow bass tone emerging from warm '80s analog oscillators, letting you up for air before sucking you down once again as drum fragments and debris float by through the murk. The track moves with a vast, sighing implication of a groove until suddenly propelling into decisive 4x4 as L-Vis lets the the drums take control again. "Not Mad" is demented, a guitar-pedal troika powered by an overdriven electric bass and Jersey kicks. It features a clapper with the giggles, a talking flanger and sawtooth stabs that beam across the track like strobes, all combining into another startling, endothermic groove. Like some of the best grime productions it echoes, "Signal" is an exercise in dancefloor shock and awe through reductionism, and is the surprise club bomb of the EP. Out of nothing but droning chords comes a massive arpeggio of Juno bass pulses framed only in silhouette by sonar bleeps, finger snaps and self-recycling industrial machinery. A loose ghostly beat start-stops to create vast chasms on the dancefloor until reinforcement from a stiff EBM snare flips the track into rigid functionality - like exploring a flooded world that is suddenly, briefly reanimated.

P Jam NSWL015 NSWL015 Night Slugs 14 May 2013 $13.99 rave, jungle, grime, techno, dubstep black papar sleeve
TRACKLIST A - (untitled) AA - (untitled)
Amens on Night Slugs? OG Grime producer P Jam serves up a curveball on the latest instalment of the White Label series. Known for seminal beats such as "Anger Management" and "Real", P Jam's old skool productions were right among the canon that influenced Night Slugs so much in the days before we were Night Slugs. Recently P Jam has been developing a unique production style that incorporates intricately edited hardcore breaks into an updated grime sensibility. A style that is ingeniously deployed on the A side of this 12" - a subheavy 2013 jungle 'cover' of a certain very famous Frankie Knuckles production - which is a concept that's just too perfect for the NSWL series. And it's built solid and razor sharp. Ecstasy guaranteed on this one! On the flip is a bonus cut, another 'cover' of the same track, but this time the breaks, rolling sub and conceptual rave domination are stripped away, creating a skeletal dub version. The icy 808 drums lets the Frankie's sweet melody breathe until a nasty squarewave bass cuts the track in half.

Fandango is the follow up to The Phoenix Foundation’s 2011 album Buffalo. Having made their reputation in New Zealand, Buffalo, their fourth album and the first to be released in Europe, was a critical and commercial hit, and 2011 saw sold out shows across the UK, with a storming set at Glastonbury leading to their UK TV debut on ‘Later... with Jools Holland’. Fandango, an expansive, ambitious and gloriously rich 78 minutes, was recorded at four studios over 15-months. From opener ‘Black Mould’ (perhaps the first motorik-influenced song about respiratory problems induced by inadequate building standards in New Zealand) to the 18 minute closing behemoth ‘Friendly Society’ (almost certainly the only psychedelic epic named after the Quaker movement and which features Neil Finn and Bella Union signed Lawrence Arabia on backing vocals), Fandango is un-coy about its lofty ambitions in an age of digital disposability. The album draws on the band’s collective love of the rock canon (Dr John, Black Sabbath, The Carpenters, Can, Talk TalK, ELO, Television,), but also from some of music’s more obscure corners (Harmonia, The Clean, Aphrodite's Child, Erkin Koray, Baris Manco, Georges Zamfir, Hayao Miyazaki). Check the balladeering yacht rock of ‘Sideways Glance’, the end-of-the-party psych-folk of ‘Modern Rock’, and ‘The Captain’ a 3-minute slice of melancholic melodic joy featuring the vocal talents of co-frontman Lukasz Buda. ‘Thames Soup’ finds the band stretching the pop tropes of mid 70s FM radio to near breaking point while ‘Evolution Did’ channels Sly and Robbie production into an oblique rant on creationism. The band recorded Fandango partially at Neil Finn’s Roundhead studios, partially at a barn in the depths of the New Zealand countryside (in the middle of winter, fire blazing in the recording studio, cardigans on) but mostly at the band’s own HQ, The Car Club in Wellington. The album was then mixed with the assistance of long-term associate Lee Prebble at The Surgery (earthquake warnings taped to the front door). Lee and the band mined the depths of vintage studio effects in a quest to create new aural chimera. Let’s leave the final word on Fandango to co-frontman Samuel Flynn Scott: "Damn the zeitgeist, I still rejoice in the pan-sexual opulence of a double gate-fold vinyl album. Honestly, I'm thoroughly satisfied that we have made 80 minutes of tripped-out pop oddities that pays absolutely no attention to the short form game of contemporary music. This is Test Match music - maybe it's prog or psyche-folk - whatever it is, it's music that we thought about a lot, worked on a lot and cared about in the minutiae."

Yes, yes, we know what you're thinking. It's a live album, and when are those ever very exciting? But just remember that they really can be, and trust us when we say that this one really, truly is. Like a modern day Live at Leeds, like the benevolent, neon twin of Live Evil, Jaga Jazzist's wondrous new record is just that; a brilliant album on its own terms. It's a psychedelic Bond soundtrack twisting and turning from the stage, propelling the listener forward on an epic emotional voyage. At times it seems to explode from the speakers in pure, exuberant colour, making you wonder if you've recently developed synesthesia. It moves with unrestrained ease from quiet reflection to cinematic, widescreen thunder, from Sound of Music pastoral joy to pulsing jazz chase sequences… and it makes you wonder why more of the music you hear isn't quite so completely affecting. Jaga Jazzist had long wanted to work with an orchestra, and when the British radio DJ Fiona Talkington introduced them to the Britten Sinfonia, they leapt at the chance to collaborate. The Barbican's Chris Sharp promised to stage the results, and the team set about writing the work from scratch. Jaga wanted to make each musician feel like a central part of the performance, and this philosophy paid off in full. The music is full of exuberance and passion, each player becoming an equal part of a startlingly purposeful hive-mind. Jaga have always taken a rigorous approach to their art, and they wanted to use the opportunity afforded by the album to push their own creativity forward. As such, they broke new ground personally. 'Mathias' trumpet solo on Bananfluer Overalt is probably my favourite moment on the album,' says the group's writer and creative driving force Lars Horntveth. 'He really shines here and has the space and time to improvise in a way he hasn't been able to do before with Jaga alone.' That says a lot about this brilliant, unique record. It's not often that an album comes along that offers so much. Its quieter moments could equal Shostakovich's explorations of mortality, its full throttle thrusts match the visceral thrill of any young guitar band. We'd suggest that you won't be disappointed in a listen, and that it might just change your day for the better. MARQUES TOLIVER Land Of CanAan
NATIONAL RELEASE DATE CD: 05.14.2013 & LP: 06.11.2013 The follow up to the critically acclaimed EP Butterflies Are Not Free (Bella Union), this debut full length album is a unique blend of R&B and Classical music. Land Of CanAan stems from an upbringing in America's Deep South drawing its inspiration from the autobiography My Bondage My Freedom by abolitionist Frederick Douglas. “Since we saw Marques busking in London surrounded by a crowd of adoring fans - when did you ever see that happen? - we knew he had some kind of magic. His voice and talents on numerous instruments is part of his, 'live' experience but making an exciting and different kind of soul record with songs to match his versatility was my hope, and I couldn't be more pleased with Land of CanAan. To me, he is a superstar of the future, a modern-day Prince.” -Simon Raymonde

BIO It’s been a little more than a year since John Barrett and his punk band Bass Drum of Death put out their debut album—a year that took this kid from a sleepy Mississippi hometown (where the bars close at midnight) and got him doing encores in front of 5,000 screaming Europeans and playing back-up band for Hodgy Beats and Left Brain of Odd Future on live TV. But no matter what, he always had new songs rattling around in his head, and when it was time to get them out, he did what he had to do—like sneak away from tour on an all-night detour to his home studio to start an emergency recording session, and then get back out on the road the very next afternoon. And that’s how he finished off his new self-titled album on Innovative Leisure. 2013’s self-titled Bass Drum of Death album is everything about 2011’s debut GB City amplified, in every sense of the word. “Shattered Me” is the lead single from the record capturing the essence of blown-apart pop music. It’s pressed on a custom 8” vinyl (part of the Innov8 series) with the backing Wavves-meets-Roky Erickson track “Crawling After You.”
“surly and mischievous, a pungent, effective collision of garage-rock bashing and Ramones sneer.” - NY TIMES “noisy, garage rock that’s easy to like.” - Pitchfork “catchy, glitter-garage tracks that seem to combine the ‘50s punk of the Ramones with the hyper-snarl of Bad Brains.” - AllMusic

When it comes to hard rock contenders no band was more feted than Blue Murder. Sykes’ stock was at an all-time high following his dismissal from Whitesnake at the peak of their success with the multiplatinum ‘1987’ Quick to maintain momentum, Sykes pieced together the Blue Murder by enlisting bassist Tony Franklin (from the Firm) and seasoned drummer Carmine Appice (Ozzy Osbourne, Jeff Beck). It was a classic power trio set-up with a musical direction influenced by both modern and traditional styles, from Led Zeppelin to the bluesy bluster of Whitesnake. Signed to Geffen Records, the album was produced by studio mastermind Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, the CULT) and mixed by Mike Fraser.. THE TALE OF Chevy is a typical music biz could’ve, would’ve, should’ve saga of a band dogged by bad luck at every turn. ‘The Taker’, their debut (and only) album was recorded in London with seasoned American producer John Stronach a somewhat surprising choice considering the band’s hard hitting riffs. The album won positive plaudits and it looked as if they were on the cusp of a sizeable victory until practical realities put paid to their hopes. Sadly the band split up shortly afterwards, leaving behind this fascinating and compelling document of an era where hard rock ruled the day.

It was a track that secured much acclaim amongst the rock cognoscenti, leading to a record deal with the newly formed Avatar label and the recording of this, their debut album originally released in 1981. Not exactly prog rock, the band’s music is carefully crafted eliciting comparisons with Praying Mantis and early Def Leppard.

THE RED BIRD STORY Founded in 1964 by esteemed songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Red Bird Records may only have been operational for three years, but during that time the label became synonymous with the 60s girl group sound, particularly due to the success of The Shangri-Las and The Dixie Cups - both of whom scored No.1 hits for Red Bird in its fledgling year. Rising Phoenix-like from earlier try-outs with Tiger (founded in 1962) and then Daisy (in 1963), Red Bird was unique among indie labels in that its output was of a consistently high standard and almost half of its releases made a commercial impact. The secret to Red Bird's 'Hit factory' lay in no small part with the chart-topping Brill Building songwriting team of Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, who had earlier penned hits for producer Phil Spector's Ronettes and Crystals. In the years prior to the British Invasion, the husband and wife team wrote prolifically for most of the label's biggest names, including the aforementioned Shangri-Las ('Leader Of The Pack', ut In The Streets') and Dixie Cups ('Chapel Of Love') The Butterflys (oodnight Baby'), Sam Hawkins ('Hold On Baby'), The Ad Libs ('He Ain't No Angel') and Andy Kim ('Hear You Say'), as well as occasionally recording in their own right. This deluxe four LP, split into two parts, draws together the best of Red Bird, along with tracks from its Blue Cat Soul/R&B subsidiary and material from the short-lived Tiger and Daisy affiliates. Carefully compiled and annotated by Roger Dopson, this compilation incorporates lesser-heard gems alongside the labels' major hits.

!K7 are proud to announce the forthcoming release of Will Saul’s moniker CLOSE. 'Beam Me Up' Feat Charlene Soraia & Scuba The new project sees him step away from the deeper house and bass sounds that have characterised his own discography and the influential labels Aus and Simple he has run for the best part of the last decade. Will, has slowly seeped CLOSE into the public consciousness over the past 12 months with remixes of Fink, Little Dragon and Hotflush boss Scuba (as co-produced with TANSTAAFL boss Julian ‘October’ Smith), Saul also put out ‘OSCAR’, the first proper CLOSE track, that was also part of !K7’s 27th anniversary campaign last year. ‘Beam Me Up’ features the vocals of Charlene Soraia and production assistance from Berlin based producer Scuba. It is a clear statement of intent that, in Saul’s ideal world, would be exactly how pop music sounds. Having immersed himself in the world of house and techno for the last ten years, the production on ‘Beam Me Up’ inevitably echoes Saul’s sentiments on the genre. However, with the addition of shimmering melodies and Soraia’s vocals – that are as heart swelling as they are crystal clear, as catchy as they are cerebral – CLOSE has taken Saul into a remarkable new direction. ‘Beam Me Up’ has already picked up plays from Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Pete Tong. The single gets remixes from Scuba himself, Hercules And Love Affair put their own disco-pop twist to it and a more ‘floor facing remix from Aus and Hotflush alumni George FitzGerald, re-interpreting the track with his own meticulous melodic touch, he underpins the whole thing with raw, stomping drums and a guttural bassline. Brilliant.

DESCRIPTIVE TEXT ______________________________________________________________________ The mid-1990s was a pretty bleak period for grindcore. The genre's progenitors had either retired into their dotage or were aimlessly wallowing in creative bankruptcy. REPULSION were content to milk the one album wonder tag. NAPALM DEATH were mired in the low point of their late-Earache death metal doldrums. Somehow CARCASS had mutated from “Reek of Putrefaction” to just plain reeking of flaccid death 'n' roll. Even BRUTAL TRUTH had shuffled off for a decade-long smoke break after leaving the world with 70 minutes of love-it-or-hate-it insanity with “Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom”. A change was needed, and New Jersey upstarts DISCORDANCE AXIS were about to upend 15 years of grindcore tradition and establish the template for 21st Century extremity. Where first album “Ulterior” owed obvious debts to their musical forerunners, DISCORDANCE AXIS found their unique voice on 1997's “Jouhou” (Japanese for "Information"), turning in 18 minutes of sleek, cyberpunked grind that directly addressed human frailty and emotions rather than recycling the same political jeremiads and empty slogans. Unlike the first wave of grind, which owed obvious debts to '80s hardcore, DISCORDANCE AXIS sounded fresh and modern, buoyed by guitarist Rob Marton's forward thinking playing, which melded fleet-fingered technique with streamlined, pinpoint aggression. Marton was influenced as much by VOIVOD as he was by NAPALM DEATH, and he was one of the few grindcore guitarist whose compositions revolved around actual riffs that were driven by Dave Witte's frenetic, pinpoint drumming. Added to that, Jon Chang introduced a whole new lexicon that appropriated themes and images from manga, science fiction and cartoons and turned them into metaphors for loss, loneliness and alienation, topics that grindcore had never seriously addressed. Together, the trio were the first to make a bid for grindcore as a capital-A Art form. There was more to their blastbeating than a bunch of kids mouthing off at the world. SELLING POINTS _____________________________________________________ - DISCORDANCE AXIS' classic second album on vinyl again for the first time in 16 years! - Includes an entire extra LP worth of bonus material containing tracks from long out of print splits with PLUTOCRACY and MELT BANANA, and live material from Tokyo.
“Jouhou” came one year before NASUM's “Inhale/Exhale” and four years before PIG DESTROYER's “Prowler in the Yard”. It signaled a sea change in grindcore. DISCORDANCE AXIS led a wave of innovators who would take grindcore's essential components and use them to explore new musical and lyrical themes, forcing it through a desperately needed reinvention and reinvigoration. But “Jouhou” was a waypoint for DISCORDANCE AXIS and not a destination. Perfection was still three years away. - ANDREW CHILDERS, Grind and Punishment

DESCRIPTIVE TEXT We thought Drowningman's debut would be best described and contextualized by one of their peers. With that in mind here's some words on the subject by Roderic Mounir, drummer extraordinaire from Swiss math-metal wizards and fellow Hydra Head alumni Knut: "Remember, this was year 1998 when so many great bands put out incredible releases: Converge When Forever Comes Crashing, Cave In Until Your Heart Stops, Botch American Nervoso, Isis Mosquito Control EP, Refused The Shape of Punk to Come, etc. Those were exciting times for the realm of heavy underground music. A seemingly lesser-known act, Drowningman, came up that year with a moniker and a sound that brought to mind the pioneers of chaotic metallic hardcore, Deadguy. Rising from Burlington, Vermont, they rocked in an even tighter fashion and would play even further the superlong-witty-song-title game. The album itself was presented under a semi passable (but ultimately memorable) Bmovie title, Busy Signal at the Suicide Hotline. That however wasn't the most important facet of the album- the music was: Drowningman fired on all cylinders, fusing hardcore-punk, noisecore, math-rock, metal and even indie-pop. Yes, they were the only band that could jump from a shredding metalcore part to a pretty singy-songy chorus without sounding like a preppy emo band - long before this became a fashionable (and marketable) formula. With a singer as capable as Simon Brody, you'd wonder why they wouldn't give it a shot. It worked. Most of all, the guitarists had so many great riffs under their belts - viciously discordant, blatantly rocking, anthemic, you name it, and to top it off a drummer that possessed enough versatility and musicality in his grooves to make it flow effortlessly. TRACKLISTING 1. Condoning The Use Of Inhalents 2. High School Slow Dance 3. Busy Signal At The Suicide Hotline 4. Sadder Than Saturday 5. Mail Order Kidney 6. Trouble Breathing 7. Supermarket Riot 8. Clothesline
Listen to opener ‘Condoning The Use Of Inhalants’: it clocks in at just under three minutes, but by the time it reaches the 2:30 mark, the band has already gone through five different riffs at least, and just as many tempo shifts, seamlessly. Drowningman were a lesson in songcraft just as much as they were in extremity. A lesson those lucky enough to cross their path undoubtedly retained." SELLING POINTS - Drowningman's debut full length back on vinyl for the first time in 15 years. - Features the original artwork and re-mastered audio by James Plotkin.

Kisses Kids in LA Sophomore Album Available via Cascine on 12” vinyl, May 14
The sophomore album by Los Angeles-based Kisses explores the empty and slightly haunted wintertime of Southern California. Kids In LA was recorded over a year and a half and produced by Saint Etienne's Pete Wiggs and Tim Larcombe. Driven by crisp and thudding drum machines, the record is riddled with evocative rhythms, lightly-effected guitars and warm analog keyboards. The mood is distinct: cold and anxious, yet rich, inviting and melodic. ____________________________ “Kisses’ effervescent electronic pop has gotten considerably chillier” -Pitchfork “Kids in LA, trades sun-kissed pop for a post-xx palette of echoing drum machines and muted guitars.” -BlackBook Magazine ____________________________ Tracks: 1) Up All Night 2) The Hardest Part 3) Huddle 4) At The Pool 5) Funny Heartbeat 6) Air Conditioning 7) Having Friends Over 8) Bruins 9) Adjust Glasses Genre: Pop/Electronic| Catalog: CSN029 | UPC: 634457580213 | List Price: $17.99 | Box Lot: 50 | Export: North America| Packaging: Single Sleeve

EXPORTABLE TO JAPAN Brother JT is Central, PA’s John Terlesky whose freewheeling boundless music has been released under many different monikers : Brother JT & Vibrolux, Brother JT3 and most commonly Brother JT. He has worked with an impressive roster of tastemakers such as Drag City, Siltbreeze, Birdman, and Drunken Fish. Brother JT is a moniker that finds Terlesky’s songwriting and ample guitar skills taking a decidedly psychedelic form but never deviating too far from the classic song structure. The Svelteness of Boogietude is his debut on Thrill Jockey and Bryon Coley (from whom he aquired the Brother JT moniker) called it his “most oustanding effort yet”. The album is a typical of JT’s output in certain ways -- rockers mixed with ballads, all of them crafted with causal elegance -- but there are new elements here as well. In particular, there’s an attention to the legacy of later-period T. Rex, which results in tunes that kick total ass. Again Byron Coley, having seen Bolan play during his Zinc Alloy/Zip Gun Boogie period, went so far as to claim that “JT’s approach to this stuff equals that of the Master -- huge riff-based anthems that balance glam dynamics with mystical history on the head of a pin.” JT also manages to pull off ballads that can remind one of Beat Happening (“Gliding”) or what it might be like to hear Warren Zevon covering the Velvets (“Somebody Down There”), a lost track by the Stalk Forrest Group (“Muffintop”) or even a Kevin Ayers/Scott Walker move so bold you’ll shiver (“I Still Like Cassettes”). In all the freewheeling associations are astute social commentary and wit. It is both a celebration of and an Onion-esque satire of the way we do the things we do. In addition to touring on the album, Brother JT will continue hosting the way out talk show Trippin’ Balls and also still find time for a new comic series and the occaisional TV spoof.

GENRE : POP/ROCK FILE UNDER: “P” Peals “F” Future Islands “D” Double Dagger RELEASE DATE : May 14, 2013 Peals is a new band led by William Cashion (Future Islands) and Bruce Willen (Double Dagger), members of two of Baltimore’s most dynamic live bands. Formed in early 2012, the duo have turned inward for their debut Walking Field, crafting a meditative and exploratory headphone panorama of the highest order. From the first moment, they set aside the basses of their high-profile post-punk outfits for acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, tambourines, toy pianos, and other sonic tools in pursuit of a stripped-down, warm living-room atmosphere. The music that sprang from these sessions, simultaneously exultant and cerebral, took the duo into unexpected territory. While the emotional intensity of their other projects is on full display here, its more gentle, melancholic and often abstract expression recalls Robin Guthrie and minimalist recordings from the sonic pioneers of the 1970s German scene - all direct inspirations for Peals as the songs that would become Walking Field took shape. Walking Field’s home-recorded sessions followed an analog approach, welcoming the happy accidents and unplanned moments that bring their music’s most organic qualities to the fore. With no bass guitars or drums present on the album—all percussion sounds were generated by contact with guitars and microphones—the emphasis here is placed on texture and feeling. Songs flow one into the next, talking to each other as they take the listener on an intuitive journey to destinations unknown. The chiming guitars of “Tiptoes in the Parlor” flirt with the layered melodies and heroic peaks of Dustin Wong, while tracks like “Believers” venture into a more challenging electronic headspace. Throughout, hidden corners are illuminated with the incorporation of field recordings, the crackle of walkie-talkies, and unexpected bursts of feedback. On tracks “Pendelles” and “Koan 1,” the addition of cello from Kate Barutha (member of Adam Lempel and the Heartbeats and Soft Cat; guest on recordings by Future Islands, Small Sur, and Weekends) adds a complex dimension of modern classical to the album’s sonic palette. Peals’ live performances strive to create an intimate atmosphere, embracing art galleries and back porches in smaller towns off the usual tour circuit. Their expressive and exhilarating debut record reflects this shift in sensibility. Walking Field is headphone music for summer afternoons and cold winter nights; a soundtrack for deserted beaches and wooded campfires; the feeling of a sunrise alone, or a sunset with a close circle of friends. This is Peals: something wholly new and unexpected from the ever-fertile Baltimore scene. Peals are: William Cashion - electric, acoustic, and floating guitars; field recordings; feedback. Bruce Willen - guitars, keyboards, walkie-talkies, toy piano, tambourine, feedback, microphones.

GENRE : ROCK FILE UNDER: “S” Survival “L” Liturgy RELEASE DATE : May 14, 2013
NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, CANADA, AUSTRALIA
Survival is an album of dark and meditative heavy rock. Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, Greg Smith, and Jeff Bobula have been playing together for over a decade and recorded this album as Survival with Colin Marston (Krallice, Dysrhythmia) at The Thousand Caves. Syncopated riffs, intricate rhythms and atypical time signatures create dramatic and complex melodic lines that provide a bed for chant-like lyrics. The group opperates as a collective, writing lyrics, riffs and singing with one voice. The album is a unique document that harkens back to posthardcore, Black Sabbath, Magma, Aphrodite’s Child, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Aaron Copeland, The Smashing Pumpkins, and the first wave of math rock. The galloping “Tragedy of the Mind” opens the album, triumphantly proclaiming, “Ending begins.” On “Since Sun” and “Tragedy (Reprise)” the group also employs acoustic guitars to create a hushed atmosphere of contemplation and reflection. The final song, “Triumph of the Good,” provides Survival’s most cathartic moment; as the distorted, almost baroque guitars slowly ascend and get louder the group collectively sings “Forgive us” before all of the instruments line up to create a massive rhythmic assault. Survival was born out of the ashes of the band Birthday Boyz, whose 2007 tour of China was documented by Vice TV for an installment of the Music World show called “Rock Under the Red Flag.”. The songs on Survival emerged after years of retooling and rearranging, with the riffs, melodies, and song structures evolving gradually over time. The band will be touring the US this summer for the first time to celebrate the release of the album. Liturgy is also in the process of recording material to be released this fall.

GENRE : FOLK/AMERICANA FILE UNDER: “J” Jones, Glenn RELEASE DATE : May 14, 2013
NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, CANADA, AUSTRALIA
EXPORTABLE TO JAPAN Glenn Jones is a unique voice working in the decades-long tradition of American Primitivism. What sets him apart from the many devotees to this style is the combination of expressive playing and technical skill, most significantly his inventive use of alternate tunings and partial capos. As anyone knows who has seen him perform, Glenn is a remarkable storyteller, and his songs reflect that talent. The songs on Glenn’s latest, My Garden State, are evocative and redolent, and serve as a testament to Glenn’s talent for conveying a wide array of emotions, many times in one song, without saying a word. My Garden State was written in the New Jersey home where Glenn’s family moved in 1966, while he was caring for his mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s. The songs and sounds on the album are reflective, but never dour or sad. My Garden State was recorded by Laura Baird in Allentown, NJ. Laura joins Glenn on the first proper song, “Across the Tappan Zee” on banjo, interweaving her plaintive melodies with Glenn’s gentle picking. Laura’s sister Meg, who was a founding member of Espers and plays with Laura as The Baird Sisters, also joins in on the final minutes of “Going Back to East Montgomery,” an eight minute long composition that showcases Glenn’s ability to craft a long form piece that is at once expansive and immediate. The two tracks that form the centerpiece of the album, “The Vernal Pool” and “Alcoeur Gardens” were composed spontaneously in the studio, a technique Glenn developed on tour with Damo Suzuki with his former band Cul de Sac. Where “The Vernal Pool” is exuberant, “Alcouer Gardens” is sparse and quiet, with field recordings of rain and thunder providing a bed for Glenn’s guitar, emphasizing the space between the notes as much as the notes themselves. The songs on My Garden State could have been written by no one except Glenn Jones, brimming with joy, sorrow, and the complex in-between that makes life worth living. Glenn will be touring throughout the Spring. Also available from Glenn Jones : The Wanting CD (Thrill 271)

This isn’t noodling or wanking, not intricacy for intricacy’s sake. These songs all establish their own feel, build their own atmosphere, and deliver it with an impressive yet subtle force.” - Popmatters

Micah Blue Smaldone The Ring of the Rise
Micah Blue Smaldone’s newest album, The Ring of the Rise, begins at dawn the day after his austere 2008 album, The Red River. Written and recorded in a remote corner of Northern Maine, these songs knell with excitement watching new beginnings in the world from a frozen outpost. The album features much full band accompaniment, exploring sonic reaches of early 70’s era Neil Young, or Richard and Linda Thompson’s first albums, with electric guitars and homemade tube amplifiers, as well as Micah’s familiar acoustic finger-stylings. The Ring of the Rise continues Micah’s relentless efforts to mine future truths from the past, this time hauling out a slab of marble spanning the 1950’s through the 1970’s, veined with slapback echoes, plate reverbs, tube equipment, and hefty old American iron. The sounds are both new and familiar, tugging at a collective consciousness particular to our era, where the past clamors for reconciliation with the future.

“Heavy Bottle” opens the album with an appeal to drink and be merry on the eve of revelation; “Time” awaits our maturing into Earth; and “Caroline”, a furious indictment of old American privilege, closes the side. The sparse instrumental “Harbingers” opens side B, ominous of “Dead Stop”, a stream of consciousness tear down the highway towards frantic acts of defiance. “Dog and Siren” calls from a forsaken part of the world, and “Iris” ends the album on a light note, celebrating camaraderie and purpose within music. Recordings were made throughout 2012, primarily at a rented house in a remote part of Northern Maine. Micah played all the basic tracks one at a time, then brought the material down to Portland for some accompaniment by Caleb Mulkerin and Collen Kinsella (Big Blood), and sage Tom Kovacevic, all of whom have played together in several incarnations over the last decade. Micah’s brother, Tristan, also made an appearance, playing violin on “Heavy Bottle”. The Ring of the Rise is Micah’s third album on Immune Recordings, along with 2008’s The Red River and a split LP with Big Blood released in 2012. He has also released three solo albums on North East Indie Records, and was a member of Fire on Fire, who released The Orchard on Young God Records in 2008.
Praise for Micah Blue Smaldone : “On The Red River, Smaldone sings with an achy, folk-tinged voice – weary but wise – as he explores a world he sees as deeply troubled but ultimately brimming with hope.” – NPR “beneath the veneer of dusty Americana there’s a song-cycle carrying a heart-of-darkness travelogue filled with terse observations about the malevolent force within us all that slips off the leash with a depressing regularity.” – BBC “Smaldone plays guitar and sings with a simplicity that underlines, rather than contradicts, the drama. You feel that with The Red River, he is finally getting comfortable with his folk-inspired palette of influences, stretching them out to fit, and making them his own.” – Dusted Magazine

Tiago Sousa Samsara
Portuguese composer and pianist Tiago Sousa follows his 2011 album Walden Pond’s Monk with his first solo piano record : Samsara. While Walden Pond’s Monk featured Sousa on piano accompanied by clarinet and percussion players, Samsara allows the playing of Sousa to take center stage. Samsara is an intricate record, built on a complex narrative that’s anchored on this oriental philosophical concept – a bold and emotive piece that stands through its carefully managed balance between opposites.

Samsara is, for several oriental cultural manifestations, the repetitive and re-occurring cycle of life, death and rebirth; it stands for a continuous drift through the various modes of existence. For Sousa, then, Samsara works as a metaphor for the flux of human creativity and how it influences our perception of reality while at the same time positing new challenges and difficulties. Since his first release, in 2006, Tiago Sousa has been consistently developing his very own aesthetics; through his relatively large body of work, we can identify an artist on the search for his own expression and identity. Samsara follows two largely successful endeavors, both centered on the piano: Insónia and Walden Pond’s Monk. In between those and this new release, Tiago has been working in the original soundtrack for Portuguese short movie Bibliografia. Samsara was recorded in Lisbon at Namouche Estudio by Joaquim Monte and mastered in Berlin at D&M by Andreas [LUPO] Lubich. Sousa will perform throughout Europe in support of Samsara. Praise for Tiago Sousa : “this music is very filmic—dark, reflective, reminiscent of Erik Satie at times, but somehow more free and intuitive. Sousa’s piano melodies weave in and out of the piece like inner thoughts flowing in a natural setting, and he mimics this beloved state remarkably well—some ideas fleeting, some latched onto and developed for however long, then discarded.” - Foxy Digitalis “Tiago Sousa cements his place as one of the most distinct voices to emerge out of the current wellspring of piano driven minimalism.” - The Silent Ballet “Walden Pond’s Monk is a quietly crafted and affecting appreciation of Henry David Thoreau built mainly around Sousa’s understated and fluid approach to solo piano work, complemented by the clarinet of Ricardo Ribeiro and the percussion of Baltazar Molina” - The Liminal IMMUNE

Fainting by Numbers | Watching the Wheels/A Stone In The Ground Nu-German compu-soul maestro Justus Köhncke and honey voiced musical polymath Alexis Taylor, team up for a sublime debut single as Fainting By Numbers. In their cover of Lennon's classic Watching The Wheels, and its synthetic-country-soulmate, A Stone In The Ground, we find two clear drops of quantized imperfection the sound of rubber, rubbing up against rigidity. Alexis and Justus first hooked up via Moshi Moshi's very own Stephen Bass in 2003, when Stephen sent Justus a copy of Hot Chip’s debut Coming On Strong. Köhncke was impressed and in 2005 remixed Hot Chip's ubiquitous hit Over And Over. After a collaboration on Sorry - a vocal reworking of instrumental track Parage - was released on Kitsune, Justus supported on the German leg of Hot Chip's 2010 world tour. In 2011 Justus and Alexis started performing ‘sing-jay’ gigs together, mixing genrebending ping-pong DJing with thrown-in live vocal performances, including Watching The Wheels and A Stone In The Ground. Born out of ad-hoc collaboration and now formalised as Fainting By Numbers, original track A Stone In The Ground displays a haunting Alexis vocal, reminiscing over Justus’ relentless synthetic backdrop, a journey from Kraftwerk’s Dusseldorf all the way to Nashville. On the flip side, a cover of the duo’s musical hero John Lennon. Lennon’s swansong to everything rat-race and careerist, Watching The Wheels echoes down the decades as a sister track to its a-side partner. It comes as a very faithful cover, a duet splitting the verses, and as bonus dub remix WATCHING THE DUB, where Köhncke dons his all-digital Lee-Perry-Drag.

Overview "Jackson promises to be the next step in electronic music" – Vice “beautifully unresolved and perfectly embraceable” – The Wire Jackson and his Computerband have been hard at work since 2005’s Smash, teaming up with amazing engineers like Phillipe Zdar and vocal collaborators like Planningtorock, expanding his sound to higher scopes.
Format: 12” Vinyl Boxlot: 25 Price: $12.99 Packaging: 12" in spined sleeve with white paper inner
The new direction in G.I. Jane (Fill Me Up) connects his IDMrevolving, high definition productions with heavy pop structures and full fledged vocal epics. “G.I. Jane” takes off into Thin Lizzy meets Carl Craig levels of dance synth mania, while “Vista” keeps a steady french house build, washed in 90’s soundtrack keys. His own remix re-emphasizes the techno base of Detroit soundscapes. TNGHT’s Hudson Mohawke provides support from the new generation Warp roster, with an explosive version of Vista. Since signing as a producer to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music and remixing everyone from Waka Flocka Flame to Disclosure’s AlunaGeorge heavyweight “White Noise”, Mohawke set about “reconfiguring it to resemble the synth-hop tracks with which he’s found so much success” (FACT).

Not “nu grime”, “post-grime”, “grimestep”, “funky grime” or “retro grime.” Just grime. Somehow, where other sounds died or dissolved, this grassroots electronic music movement has grown organically for over ten years now. In an era when information acceleration was supposed to grind any new idea up in the hype machine before it had time to find its feet, grime resisted all appropriation, retaining the qualities that made it exciting, fresh and subversive in the first place. It wasn't easy by any means, and it's survived a lot in that time. It has seen its own MCs become superstars, frequently eclipsing the genre that raised them, then watched as its suburban first cousin dubstep snuck out from the shadows to world domination. It's been through beefs, bans and brawls; been held back by internal and external politics; struggled for recognition while flimsier, flightier sounds have been hyped to oblivion. Through all that, though, throbbed the warped beats, hollow-sounding bass and preset synth sounds of the scene’s uniquely inventive producers, in many ways the keepers of the true flame, while its vocalists searched for as many ways to sell out as they could find. Sometimes as sparse, freaky and out-there as anything else in the electronic continuum, sometimes so far up in your face that you feel like you're going to be spitting teeth. Sucking up influences from garage, techno, jungle, dirty south hip hop, funky house, trance, and anything else that stumbles into its path, but bending it all into its own contorted shapes, grime production remains a brilliantly uncompromising and bloody-minded strand in British underground music – and further abroad too. Journalist and talent scout Joe Muggs, who compiled the CD with Big Dada's Will Ashon, has been working with a number of grime producers on their own digital labels, and began to realise there was a vast untapped reservoir of talent. So here we are with grime still alive and very much kicking. And here is the most comprehensive survey of grime production the scene has ever had – thirty five exclusive tracks from across the world and across the spectrum of grime, demonstrating it to be some of the most powerful and brilliant electronic music in the world today. We've got new tracks from the originators (the godfather Wiley, Manchester's dubstep/grime originator MRK1, the elusive Youngstar whose 'Pulse X' was the first ever released grime record). We've got the new stars of the scene (Royal T, Preditah, Faze Miyake), and the up-and-comers snapping at their heels (Midlanders Swifta Beater and TC4, Brighton's Moony, Southeast Londoner Mr. Mitch). We've got tracks from Japan (Prettybwoy), Australia (Juzlo), the Netherlands (Gumnaam), Ireland (Major Grave), the US (Starkey and Matt Shadetek) and Canada (Tre Mission). We've got bangers and bubblers, haunting melodies and psychotic grooves, dead-eyed threat and cantankerous joy – and all the way through we've got evidence that this is a scene whose creativity can't be held back and shows no signs of stopping.

Soul Jazz Records presents
Mirror To The Soul: Music, Culture and Identity in the Caribbean 1920-‐72
Street Date: 14 May 2013
3 Formats: Deluxe limited edition CD + bonus CD + 3hr DVD + 72 page book • Deluxe limited edition 2 x 180g LP + Download + DVD + Insert • 2 x LP •
Mirror to the Soul: Music, Culture and Identity in the Caribbean 1920-‐72 is a massive new release from Soul Jazz Records comprising two music CDs, a two-‐hour (+ 1h extras) documentary DVD and a 72-‐page book.
CD1 – Tracklisting
The Film: A Documentary Film About British Pathé In The West Indies 1920-‐72 Over two years in the making, Mirror to the Soul is a new documentary film about the Caribbean, a unique collaboration between Soul Jazz Records and British Pathé, made up entirely of newsreel footage (short news pieces of two or three minutes in length) filmed during the period 1922-‐1970. British Pathé was established in London in 1910 to produce newsreels screened in cinemas throughout Britain before main feature films. In the 1950s, to compete with the new medium of television, Pathé began adding entertainment, cultural, musical and educational stories to hard news items. Pathé eventually closed production in 1970 after accumulating over 3,500 hours of documentary history and Soul Jazz Records/Films were given full access to these film vaults for the making of this new film. As well as offering an insight into aspects of West Indian life, the film allows us to see how a private British film company presented a Caribbean identity to the outside world. Consequently the film tells us as much about British society and its own identity and values -‐ especially in regard to attitudes towards its colonies and former-‐colonies -‐ as it does those of the Caribbean itself. This film presents many aspects of Caribbean life to the viewer. From Calypsonians to banana plantations, from Voodoo ceremonies to revolutionaries, as well as hurricanes, stingrays and flying fish, colonialism and independence, water diving, carnival – all presented together here into a uniquely fascinating document. Music CD One: Caribbean Jump-‐Up, Mambo and Calypso Beat 1954-‐77 Big sounds from small islands! This album is a whistle-‐stop musical journey through the Caribbean stopping off at Trinidad, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and more along the way as Caribbean Jump-‐Up, Mambo and Calypso Beat all feature in this upfront selection of heavyweight Caribbean dance tunes from 1954-‐77! Includes loads of killer ska, mambo and latin jazz, calypso, tropical funk and more. Artists include Irakere, Cachao, Slim Smith, Celia Cruz, El Gran Combo, Edmundo Ros, Lord Flea, Techniques, Carlos Malcolm, Count Ossie and more! BONUS Music CD Two: Afro-‐Caribbean Music Up From The Roots 1994-‐2013 Soul Jazz Records have been recording Afro-‐Caribbean music for the last 15 years, traveling to and documenting roots styles in the Caribbean region. This authentic Afro-‐Caribbean music is at the source of many popular styles of today and the album is a selection of Soul Jazz Records’ productions and includes music from Cuba, Haiti, Colombia, Guadeloupe and Belize. (Tracklisting on request.) Featured here are Caribbean music styles all of which have a 600-‐year connection with Africa as their heartbeat, with music -‐ especially the drum -‐ a spiritually significant link to the heritage of much of the West Indies.

RUFF KUTT BLUES BAND
STREET DATE: 5/14/13
THAT’S WHEN THE BLUES BEGINS Texan James Goode describes himself as an “old rascal and beat-up coach”, but this Rockabilly Hall-Of-Fame inductee, songwriter, bass player, and creator of the Ruff Kutt Blues Band certainly knows how to field one hell of a Blues team. THAT’S WHEN THE BLUES BEGINS features fourteen songs written or co-written by Goode, performed by world class Bluesmen including vocalist/guitarist Zac Harmon, vocalist Finis Tasby, and producer/guitarist Anson Funderburgh. The first Ruff Kutt Blues Band album, Mill Block Blues (2011), garnered critical raves and was so successful that Goode was able to donate $10,000 of proceeds to the Blues Foundation’s HART Fund, providing relief to Blues musicians in need. When he decided to do a follow up, it went without saying that the first call would go out to Texas Blues guitar hero Anson Funderburgh, who anchored the first CD. Anson was quick to sign on to produce the new CD, and soon they brought in internationally acclaimed Blues heavyweights Zac Harmon and Finis Tasby to form the nucleus of the team for THAT’S WHEN THE BLUES BEGINS. Rounding things out are Wes Starr on drums, Ron Jones on saxophone, and keyboardist/engineer Gentleman John Street. This all-star aggregation hits a deep Blues groove and delivers Goode’s songs with the assured, relaxed intensity of seasoned pros. Sadly, these sessions are the last recordings Finis Tasby completed before suffering a debilitating stroke in December, 2012. His many friends and fans have been sending prayers, support, and their hopes for his recovery.
