Format : CD Boxlot : 30 Price: $14.99 Packaging: CD in digipack with 12 page booklet

Overview Brian Eno and Karl Hyde (of Underworld) come together with a new album to be released this May on Warp Records. Someday World comprises nine songs, composed and sung by Eno & Hyde together with a highly distinguished cast of supporting musicians, including Eno's Roxy Music bandmate Andy Mackay, Tessa Angus, Nell Catchpole, Marianna Champion, Will Champion, Kasia Daszykowska, Don E., Darla Eno, Georgia Gibson, John Reynolds and Chris Vatalaro. Following his 2013 Grammy nominated album LUX, Brian Eno produced this new album with 20 year old Fred Gibson, and continues an ongoing collaboration between Hyde & Eno which sees the two together on a complete album for the first time. “I had a big collection of 'beginnings' sitting around waiting for something to galvanise them into life, to make them more than just 'experiments'. That something turned out to be Karl Hyde.” - Brian Eno Someday World will be released on Deluxe 2CD Set (with four bonus songs) and CD. More information about this release can be found at www.enohyde.com.

He has received Artist to Watch accolades from The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Billboard and Stereogum, performed on Letterman and Ferguson and has shared stages with the likes of Eddie Vedder, The Black Keys and Wilco. FUJIYA & MIYAGI

ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS NATIONAL RELEASE DATE CD/LP: MAY 6TH, 2014

Few have offered such a bittersweet taste of pop through their career as Fujiya & Miyagi; underneath the sticky wrappers that have packaged their sugary synth lines and rich hooks since the turn of the Millennium, there’s always been a grittier aftertaste. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to rot your teeth on Artificial Sweeteners. Coming off their more live band-orientated fourth album, Ventriloquizzing, here they return to their roots, with an album that is their most overtly electronic since their mighty second release, 2006’s Transparent Things, or even debut Electro Karaoke In The Negative Style. Reaching back to the influences that got them into dance music in the first place, beach parties, warehouse raves in their native Brighton, early Warp Records and Carl Craig, the group wrote at an unchartered prolificacy, revelling in digging out their old samplers and synths and sizing them up against the digital technology they continue to explore the limits of.

HIGHLIGHTS: • Follow-up to 2011's critically acclaimed Ventriloquizzing • First track, “Tetrahydrofolic Acid,” premiered on Pitchfork with coverage from Stereogum and Consequence of Sound • National press handled by Ever Kipp of Tiny Human. Soul Jazz Records Presents

PUNK 45 Sick On You! One Way Spit! After The Love & Before The Revolution Vol.3: Proto – Punk 1970-77

Street Date: 6 May 2014

Soul Jazz Records’ new Punk 45 album is a collection of tracks of twisted, raw and energized proto-‐punk music from the early 1970s, ahead-‐of-‐its-‐time music which led the way for the birth of punk in the second half of the 1970s.

Punk 45: Sick on You! One Way Spit! After the Love & Before the Revolution: Proto-‐Punk 1969-‐77 is the third volume in this series, following on from two earlier albums as well as Soul Jazz Records’ massive 400-‐page Punk 45 cover art book (compiled by Jon Savage, author of the seminal punk book London’s Dreaming, and Stuart Baker of Soul Jazz Records). This new album is compiled and has extensive sleeve-‐notes by Jon Savage. While the first in the series, Punk 45: Kill The Hippies! Kill Yourself!, focused on the rise of underground punk in America, and the second album, Punk 45: There is No Such Thing as Society, did the same for punk and post-‐punk in Britain, this album draws upon some of the stripped-‐down hard garage and post-‐glam sounds of mainly obscure bands that existed in the early 1970s – that were to prove the template for the forthcoming punk movement. This new Punk 45 album is a unique collection of proto-‐punk tracks from across the USA -‐ Cleveland’s Electric Eels, San Francisco’s Crime, Los Angeles’ Zolar X, Baltimore’s George Brigman and more – as well as from the UK – with Joe Strummer’s pre-‐Clash 101ers, the speed-‐induced R&B of the Count Bishops and others. The album comes complete with text, biographies on each of the bands, exclusive photos and original record artwork. The album is released on CD with outsize large booklet and thick slipcase and is also available as a limited-‐edition, super-‐loud, super-‐heavy, double gatefold-‐ sleeve vinyl edition, complete with full sleeve-‐notes and free download code. These Punk 45 releases are also the first that Soul Jazz Records are making available as worldwide digital releases.

LISTEN: https://soundcloud.com/republicofmusic/sets/nine-black-alps-candy-for-the/s-7hek3 OVERVIEW: After a 3 year wait Nine Black Alps finally returned in October 2012 with their fourth studio album 'Sirens. Now in 2014 the band show no signs of stopping by announcing details of their 5th album ‘Candy For The Clowns’. With core members Sam Forrest (vocals, guitar), David Jones (guitar), James Galley (drums, vocals) and bass player Karl Astbury, the band had retained their distinctive and energetic sludge, grunge-rock sound albeit with a tighter and more dynamic style. The band were formed in 2003 in Manchester, UK and were quickly signed by Island Records after just a handful of local shows and an almighty scramble amongst the music industry. The rest, as they say is history…. Recent single ‘Novokaine’ released at the end of last year to coincide with their 10 year anniversary, and championed by Edith Bowan, (6 Music), John Kennedy (XFM) and Frank Skinner (Absolute Radio) was the first taster of the new record. It’s a far more distorted and rockier affair that harks back to their earlier albums Everything Is and Love/Hate. Other tracks such as their upcoming single ‘Supermarket Clothes’ capture a more British sound for the band but overall ‘Candy for the Clowns’ is an addictive balance of summer college rock and surf-pop. It will be the first album to be released on new Leeds label Hatch Records on 21st April. Produced by Nine Black Alps and mixed/engineered by Mark Winterburn at Edge Recording Studios, it’s the clear sign of a band returning to form. NBA will be hitting the road in April as well as appearing at Camden Rocks Festival on 31st May. OTHER ACTIVITY: www.facebook.com/nineblackalps, www.nineblackalps.com, www.hatchrecords.co.uk

Amelia Rivas and Christian Pinchbeck don't just sing about feverish, frayed and fractured romances – in the three years since forming Elephant, they've been living one. It’s fitting that Sky Swimming, their debut full length release is a seductive, night time delight of an album. After all, it was in the twilight hours of a May morning three years ago that Pontefract native Amelia Rivas and Bristolian Christian Pinchbeck met at a house party and in alcohol-soaked all-nighter sessions that Sky Swimming was written. A fibrous collection of songs about relationships – their own included, which broke down during the making of the album – hazy memories, twisted dreams, the metaphysical bleeding in to the physical - Sky Swimming – all trilling keyboards, swooping melodies, broken hip hop beats, looped strings and Amelia’s uniquely curvy vocals – that makes you want to clamp your headphones tighter on your ears, letting you swim in its every detail and emotion. Influenced by everything from Toro Y Moi to composer Angelo Badalamenti, Everything But The Girl to rap originators Arrested Development and Joe Meek’s productions, it’s an intensely varied listen. “The first time we worked together, I went round to his house and didn’t leave for 3 days. I barely knew him,” Amelia remembers. “She turned up with some £10 Casio she bought from a charity shop in France and the whole demo EP was made on that,” recalls Christian. Elephant have grown beyond their lo-fi roots since then, with Andy Dragazis being drafted in on co-production duties, while retaining the emotional rawness of those early songs. Tracks vary from psyche-delving ballads about growing up - Torn Tongues and Skyscraper (“I want to understand what’s wrong with my brain,” Rivas laughs), to the thrilling pop of Elusive Youth, a eulogy to a friend who “wears a city crown”, to the everyday trials of being young and poor in London (see Ants about Amelia’s crumbling Tooting bedsit and TV Dinner, a paean to rubbish telly and cheap booze) and the heartbreaking title track Sky Swimming written in the eye storm of their relationship meltdown with the refrain “do your eyes turn blue before you cry, I see the blue in you”. With winning appearances at Primavera and Eurosonic festivals behind them, not to mention support slots with cult hero Matthew E White, under their belts, Elephant have in Sky Swimming one of the year’s most seductive sounds. . “I flew to the moon to mirror you” sings Amelia on album closer Shapeshifter, with the sort raw melancholy that could only be cribbed from a Blue Valentine romance. “I saw the future.” It should be a very bright future ahead for Elephant indeed.

Overview "Greene pushes sharp synths through the fog, creating something that’s deeply impressionistic even when it’s laser focused ... expect to hear his name a lot this year." - Stereogum LuckyMe are very proud to present Jacques Greene’s Phantom Vibrate EP, a three track club 12” of JGs most sophisticated songs to date. Phantom Vibrate explores themes of human interaction with technology as he embarks on a new hardware show and string of headline launch events in the three cities that helped model his signature blend of techno, house & contemporary R&B: Brooklyn, Montreal & London. Now residing in New York, Jacques Greene is a producer helping define the next template for dance music – something not beholden to purist abstract language of what’s ‘real’ house music or techno. No, JG is singularly absorbing experimental influences, hip hop & R&B. It’s ironic then that should the old guard of dance music take notice of this artist. Greene continues to write on analogue hardware – he’s DJ sets a journey through Chicago and Detroit, albeit ending up in the contemporary hubs of London & Atlanta. Since his early releases The Look, Another Girl and last summers massive On Your Side featuring How To Dress Well - he has proven himself as an artist who doesn’t think in tracks. These are considered EPs with deliberate aesthetic themes. ‘No Excuse’, sees JG dust off his trademark vocal phrasing but here there’s another layer of intensity to his previous tracks. The vocals aren’t central this time. This track is about hard shuffling taikos and owes more to hip hop production while ‘Feel What’ is euphoric gospel house. The sample is processed into a plate chorus that lifts a rhythm section of jacking hats and Prince-esque chords. It’s ascendant, reaching a hazey pinnacle before disappearing under sparkling synths.B2 ‘Night Tracking’ is on ode to JG’s old club night in Montreal that was responsible for refining his tastes and cutting his teeth alongside many legends. The track is pure hardware work out – and yet it’s cinematic in its evocation of dark dancefloors & midnight car rides. Just like so much of Greene’s music, it’s alive and deeply visual.

Seahawks have remixed artists including The Horrors, Badly Drawn Boy, Tim Burgess, Rune Lindbaek and The Advisory Circle. They host a regular ‘boat party’ in London where guests Ulrich Schnauss, Tom Furse et al are free to play whatever the hell they like. Their few live shows have taken place in London, Manchester and Japan. Seahawks were formed when Jon Tye invited Pete Fowler to spin some discs with him at a party. While playing, they discovered they both loved the seemingly incompatible genres of free electronic noise and smooth AOR soft rock. It was the fusion of these two disparate elements that lead to the first Seahawks release ‘Omega Beach’, a record that fused Oneohtrix Point Never’s tripped out synths with Don Henley’s Deadhead quoting anthem ‘Boy’s Of Summer’. Subsequent releases have explored all manner of West Coast/soft rock sounds mixed with sprawling freeform improvisations to create deep listening epics like ‘Spaceships Over Topanga Canyon’ and ‘Tender Abyss’. In 2011 Seahawks were offered some free studio time. Faced with a room full of drums, guitars and keyboards, the duo called on some fellow travellers to help create the sound they’d been hearing in their heads for so long. The result is ‘Paradise Freaks’. While some tracks even resemble conventional songs, others stretch right out and explore the far reaches of the universe. It’s the kind of record Jonathan Wilson might have made if he’d grown up listening to Cluster, Cerrone and Jerry Garcia or if Connan Mockasin had ended up on stage jamming with a prime time Doobie Brothers. Recording with a core group featuring Al Doyle (Hot Chip/LCD Soundsystem) on bass and guitar Rob Smoughton (Hot Chip/Grovesnor) on drums and guitar and Kenny Dickenson (KT Tunstall/Red Ken) on keys, Seahawks invited some of their favourite singers to contribute vocals. Maria Minerva, Tim Burgess, Indra Dunis of Peaking Lights and missing-inaction psychedelic songsmith Nick Nicely all added their unmistakeable tones. A set of final overdubs from Tom Furse (The Horrors) and some tinkering from Seahawks’ regular Cornish musical mates sealed the deal. The whole process took time but what is time when faced with the epic expanse of the cosmos - a cosmos full of soft tones and brilliant corners, unexpected collisions, warm openings, deep colours and fresh textures. So have a listen and listen deep and ask yourself these questions: Do I believe in a better world? Do I believe in Paradise? Does that make me a freak?

Nausea. Disorienting. Anxious. Unsettled. It is hard to imagine better words for the debut Fake Four release by post-noise rap pioneers Moodie Black. Like the concept of Nausea itself used in existential philosophies of Jean Paul Sartre, the album is a sonic confrontation with the beauty of an unsettled mood, a disconnection with what is everyday and common. Following up their 2013 self-titled E.P. that herald their mastery of integrating hip-hop styled rap with punishing noise, static, and industrial yet melodic soundscapes, Nausea offers audiences a different vision of whatnoise rap can be. Unlike the uptempo tracks found on their self-titled E.P. release (No Blood ft. Cheschi Ramos; Hipster Death; Last Griot ft. Dälek), Nausea reveals a more downtempo, near catatonic, dystopian, and beautiful mood. It’s hard to say that you just listen to this album. It’s better to say you experience it. It is a sonic journey. The album begins on a surprisingly minimal note. A single saw wave tone, a kick, and a snare all give way to a relentless lyrical flow about Arizona desert visions as shimmering and reverberated guitar bellow. Anguished screams and rhythmic pulses through the chorus pushes one further into this disordered mood. But the beauty of Moodie Black’s post-noise visions begin to emerge in the second track, “Skies.” The heavily reverbed, fuzzed and washed guitar ambience creates the kind of contemplative and introspective moods reminiscent of the post punk, shoegaze, darkwave, and “beautiful noise” of scenes of the 80’s and early 90’s. The minimal vintage production continues throughout the album. The band seems to have traded in raw, punishing static force, for more sophisticated ambient sounds and progressions. The album has a dark continuity and holds together well under its half-time rhythmic, head nod inducing pulses. Lyrics tell a story about the band’s frustrations with mass conformity, societal lack of sincerity, all while also paying homage to the transcendent quality of the human struggle as a meaningful one. Like the existential concept of Nausea itself, Moodie Black’s Nausea present sonic basic truths about human nature and existence. As its big beats, prodding rhythms, on point lyrical flows, wailing vocals and blissed out synth and dark guitars come crashing down upon us, Nausea upsets our everyday understanding of not only noise rap by shocking us into a new awareness about the genre, but also about what existence more generally, can be. Listen with caution.

Fatima Al Qadiri is a multidisciplinary artist and musician from Kuwait. In just a few years, she has quickly built a reputation as a conceptual artist, exploring themes informed both by her own background and global pop culture, through a number of highly acclaimed EPs, multimedia projects and writings. She is also a founding member of the production team Future Brown. Fatima's debut album is called ‘Asiatisch’, and as the track titles suggest, the record provides a simulated road trip through an imagined China. Musically, the album is an homage to that quietly influential sub-strain of grime, often loosely termed 'sinogrime' due to its preoccupation with Asian motifs and melodies, pioneered by the likes of Wiley and Jammer at the beginning of the 2000s in East London. 'Asiatisch' is a provocation which asks more questions than it answers. The title is the German word for Asian. Unlike its title, however, the music on 'Asiatisch' revolves around the fantasies of East Asia as refracted through pulpy Western pop culture, in particular Hollywood, literary fiction, music, cartoons and advertising. Fatima asks what is meant by the term 'Asian' in a digital age of viral interchange and the hi-speed trading of cultural bytes; the concept of 'shanzhai' proves pivotal, a term whose meaning stems from a wild, out of control zone of banditry, but which has come to be used to refer to the Chinese counterfeiting of Western brands and goods. While a number of producers have made takes on 'sinogrime' over the last few years, 'Asiatisch' is really the first record that attempts to articulate this weird complex of sonic interchanges between the West and China. With the exception of the opening track, 'Shanzhai', a haunting cover of 'Nothing Compares to You' with nonsensical Mandarin lyrics, and the shimmering 'Loading Beijing', 'Wudang' and 'Jade Stairs' which sample and distort classical Chinese poetry staging an epic confrontation between China's ancient soul and the onslaught of the industrial factory machine, most of the tracks blend mallets, bells, gongs, flutes, steel drums and choral atmospherics with the searing synth-brass and the skittering drums of grime, playing melodies that are inflected as much by classic R&B as to synthetic versions of traditional Chinese music. On "Dragon Tattoo" for example, stereotypical iconography of imagined China is slotted into a threatening, robotic R&B format. The carefree pirating of Western brands blurs into a soft-synth pirating of Chinese musical signs. 'Asiatisch' is wrapped in pristine artwork by Babak Radboy from Shanzhai Biennial, and the music was given a 3D sheen by in demand mixer Lexxx. Proclaiming both its love of both ancient and imagined China, 'Asiatisch' is a rare album that is both icily beautiful and conceptually layered.

Careful CIS1069: CAREFUL - THE WORLD DOESN’T END “The World Doesn’t End” is the fourth full-length release by Careful, the meticulously crafted solo project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Eric Lindley. A transplant from a community of artists, electronics hackers and experimental writers in Los Angeles, Lindley recorded the album entirely in an ad hoc studio in his small, Bedstuy apartment in Brooklyn, NY. Aside from spot mixing by his friend Andrew Munsey, and mastering by Josh Bonati, the production is entirely his own, belying the rich, orchestral range of both setting and vocals, which he electronically altered to sound like a duet between himself and a female voice.

Careful’s music is warm, dark, and—until this album—somewhat subdued. This release marks a transition into something occasionally more aggressive, often more transparent and direct in storytelling. Each song is its own short story, centering on an endlessly bleak relationship between a man and woman, both voiced by Lindley. Certain tracks, like “Didn’t He Die” blend noisy, custom synth sounds and multiple interlocking layers of noise—a la Crystal Castles or Fuck Buttons— with complex polyphonies and polyrhythms found among the likes of Thomas Mapfumo and Joanna Newsom. Other tracks, like “Headlights; Mice-Like-Snowflakes” or “Unicorn” evoke

Lindley himself is a voracious consumer of media and ideas. After playing in a spate of ephemeral punk bands, growing up in Orange County, CA, he grew fascinated with music theory—how it exposes very simple ways that human emotion is both sadly predictable and brightly universal. He graduated from Dartmouth College with degrees in Physics and Music, abandoning the expected path in the footsteps of his great-grandfather—the Bohemian zeppelin engineer Karl Arnstein—to write songs and study music and cognition with minimalist composer James Tenney at art school. He is writer and performance/installation artist, and his albums betray a love of film, art and literature, referencing far-flung cult celebrities such as Harmony Korine and Vincent Gallo, literary heroes like Charles Simic, Robert Creeley, and (somewhat-obliquely) Nicholson Baker, and he has served residencies in Amsterdam, Los Angeles and New York to develop his work in biofeedback and psycholinguistics. As Careful he has played shows with many other musicians that straddle the art world, including Julia Holter, Mt. Eerie, Xiu-xiu, Lucky Dragons, and Anna Oxygen, and has been backed in live performance by animator Miwa Matreyek and members of the improvised music trio Dawn of Midi. RELEASE

There was college for a hot minute, there was a move to the Irish Channel, there was the soaking in of all that is New Orleans, wet heat and Sazeracs, the wailing horns of jazz funerals, the teetering handmade floats of Mardi Gras, crawfish and etouffee and howling at the moon. There was work where he could get it, toiling as a PA on the studio sets, Hollywood coming south for the tax credits. It was on these film productions where crash earned his nickname, something to do with a questionable work ethic and repetitive tardiness (he admits you’d have to ask one Ms. Rita Wilson for the real deal details). WOODEN WAND : FARMER’S CORNER Fire Records DIGI CD FIRECD334 809236133427 $14.99 / LP FIRELP334 809236133410 $24.99 Following the critically acclaimed Blood Oaths of the New Blues, James Jackson Toth a.k.a Wooden Wand decided to try something different: instead of spending a week in a studio with the same people, the same engineer, the same equipment and the same state of mind, he would record in fits and starts, whenever - and wherever - he felt like it. Over six sessions in four studios spanning three states, he began amassing tracks. Toth then chose his favourites for Farmer's Corner, which is, remarkably, the very first self-produced Wooden Wand album. Aided on the majority of the tracks by bassist Darin Gray (On Fillmore, Jim O'Rourke, Grand Ulena ), and guitarists William Tyler (Lambchop, Silver Jews, Yo La Tengo) and Doc Feldman. The result reflects Toth's omnivorous musical and narrative obsessions. The arrangements – think Little Feat covering Harvest Moon – only serve to highlight his capabilities as both a songwriter and storyteller. The collected songs form an easy entry into the ever-growing Toth output, where outlaws on the run, epic landscapes, endless travels, agitated insomniacs and ditch-digging memory-evaders lurk behind every turn. “this is the sound of one musician's prolific and mercurial path, reaching delightful new highs.” Pitchfork 7.9 1. Untouched by today's current musical fads, 'Rosso' is an individual beast - dark, gritty and raw - which shifts between brooding soundscapes in the haunting opening track, 'A Ship Glides Through The Nigh', to the infectious synth-hooks of alt-pop gem, 'Snow'. The album was recorded over a long and turbulent six year period, mixed by New York's Matthew Weiss who has effectively pulled the many strands of King Midas' complex record together - allowing its seemingly alien parts to fall into perfect place alongside each other. Having set their home country alight with their inimitable sound, King Midas have the rest of the world fully in their sites, making 'Rosso' one of 2014's most exciting albums from one of Scandanavia's most captivating exports. Their sound is lean, fast and close, their songs about dancing, fun and forgetting. Recorded over five days on Lightship 95, a boat moored in the Thames, the EP has a clean, more coherent feel. With Steve Jansen's “Slope”, a still tension underlies the crisp rhythms and intricate programming, while a roster of all-star singers draw out the sentiment in his songwriting. Slope follows Jansen’s critically celebrated endeavour Nine Horses, with brother and long-time collaborator David Sylvian and electronica artist Burnt Friedman. As Jansen explains, “With this album I approached composition attempting to avoid chord and song structures and the usual familiar building blocks. Instead I wanted to piece together unrelated sounds, music samples and rhythms in an attempt to deviate from my own trappings as a musician.” Fans of Sylvian and Wasser will admire how effortlessly their voices blend together on a song that doesn’t fit either’s background. 01/ Grip 02/ Sleepyard 03/ Cancelled Pieces 04/ December Train 05/ Sow The Salt 06/ Gap Of Cloud 07/ Playground Martyrs 08/ A Way Of Disappearing 09/ Ballad Of A Deadman 10/ Conversation Over 11/ Life Moves On 12/ Playground Martyrs (Reprise)

Limb have been a band to catch by those in the know on the Doom/Sludge scene since their formation in 2011. Their sound is shot through with an alternative twist on the Doom/ Sludge theme. The record’s dynamics and approach are akin to Slint in many ways, though post rock it most certainly isn't. It's deliberately stripped-down. Stark, bleak and visceral. As dark and menacing as Joy Division 'de-tuned', though post-punk it most certainly isn't. There are moments of sleazy psychedelics, blasts of cosmic rock and brushes with hardcore.
