Reckless Kelly Somewhere In Time

NATIONAL release date: 02.09.2010 cD Somewhere in Time is the next installment in the legend of Reckless Kelly. The last, the inimitable Bulletproof, careened into the Billboard 200 and on up to the top 25 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. The single spent weeks at #1 on Americana and Texas radio and spoke to the continuing upward mobility of the band’s craft and dedicated fan base. Now, in the midst of determined forward progression, Reckless takes a minute to look back at a time when the crowds weren’t so big and the honky tonk floors a bit dirtier – and just maybe, a bit more real. Somewhere in Time looks back to the roots of brothers Cody and Willy Braun and their musical education at the hand of underground Americana forefather Pinto Bennett. Inspired to bring Pinto’s songs to the world, Reckless Kelly turns up the pedal steel to eleven and offers a truly inspired take on the country music they cut their teeth on. Always seeking to expand the definition of their identity as artists and showmen, Somewhere in Time sheds light on yet another facet of their already brimming legend.

RETAIL: Last release, Bulletproof has scanned over 33,000 units in the US and was in the Top 25 of the Billboard Country Albums chart. With 5 of the Top 10 markets in Texas, a key strategy of our rollout plan will be to superserve those markets through P&P, print ads and street week promotions including listening parties, instores and autograph signings in 4 of the top 5 markets. As the tour routes around the country, we’ll support the dates and local retail through regional print ads in the alternative weeklies. In-store play copies and posters are available. Radio: With multiple singles hitting #1 at Americana and Texas radio, those formats will once again be key targets for the single “Best Forever Yet.” With Texas radio being worked by specialists Apex and Americana/AAA being worked by Songlines, the radio plan has a strong chance for sucess. In-studios and station presents will be focused around the tour dates for a multi-wave push.

PRESS: Full national press campaign by Essential Broadcast Media with additional Texas support by McGuckin Entertainment. Television will be a major target of the national campaign along with mainstream music publications as well as major daily and weekly newspapers.

TOUR: Key Texas markets will be played the week after street date with a 20 date national tour supporting Cross Canadian Ragweed starting two weeks after. Tour will hit the midwest east coast an south including three shows in Florida. The band will also be playing MusicFest in Steamboat Springs, CO in mid-January which annually attracts over 5000 fans to the mountains of Colorado.

Phantogram’s music sounds like it’s made by a band from the city. Electronic loops, hip-hop beats, shoegaze, soul, pop – each finds its way into their songs. Unexpectedly, the band doesn’t live and work in a major urban center, but rather calls the town of Saratoga Springs, NY (population 26,186) home. Despite the cultural influence of local Skidmore College (where fellow beat-experimenters Ratatat formed) and a relatively small scene of adventurous musicians and listeners, Saratoga isn’t exactly teeming with fans of J. Dilla, My Bloody Valentine or Serge Gainsbourg.

But Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, the duo that make up Phantogram and who grew up in the even smaller nearby municipality of Greenwich, have flourished in Saratoga. The Goat & the Occasional Others is a Los Angeles-based garage band. Formed in 2007 by two skateboarders with too much time on their hands and too much creative energy to keep bottled up. Andrew Reynolds (guitar) and Shane Heyl (vox) were quickly joined by their good friends and fellow professional skateboarders Kevin “Spanky” Long (guitar) and Beagle Oneism (drums) to create the Goat’s first record, a vinyl 10” self-titled EP released in 2008 as a promotional item in very limited quantities by Altamont Apparel Ltd., Reyn× olds’ Los Angeles-based skate× board clothing company featuring the band logo and cover artwork designed by the notorious graffiti writer NECKFACE. Soon after this first release, The Goat added award-winning skateboard photographer Atiba Jefferson on keyboards to complete the line up. Through this much sought after release and some energetic and intense early live shows, The Goat quickly established a cult following amongst everyone from their fellow professional skate× boarders like Eric Koston and Guy Mariano, to plussized porn model Crystal Clear and movie actor Ryan Gosling. Gosling, himself a musician in the band Dead Man’s Bones introduced the band to the label Werewolf Heart Records (Gosling’s label with fellow Dead Man Zach Shields and record producer/ Ima Robot band member Tim Anderson) in Los Angeles, for whom The Goat just finished recording their first full length entitled “The Goat Speaks” to be released February 9th, 2010. Werewolf Heart was set up solely for the purpose of releasing records by The Goat, Dead Man’s Bones and Ima Robot. The Goat has opened for No Age (Sub Pop Records) on tour as the two bands traveled from Los Angeles to SXSW in Austin, Texas on a music and skateboarding tour with the Altamont Apparel skateboard team last March. A tour documentary and magazine feature in The Skateboard Mag were the result of this unique skaterock mashup tour. Additionally, the Goat has been featured in numerous skate and music publications, including Thrasher, Transworld Skateboarding, Rolling Stone Italy, Pitchfork.com and more… Despite all the early accolades, loyal skateboard fans need not fret, the band has no plans of quitting their day jobs anytime soon!

Kath Bloom is a legend of folk, country, blues and avant-garde music. She has been making records since the late 70s. The daughter of world-renowned oboist Robert Bloom, Kath was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, where she trained as a cellist. Her formal music education, however, soon gave way to the guitar, which was self-taught among the lonely tombstones of a nearby graveyard. Bloom collaborated with Bruce Neumann in the early '70s, but it wasn't until she met avant-garde guitarist Loren MazzaCane Connors in 1976 that she started recording. Bloom and Connors recorded six limited edition albums of fragile, simple folk and blues melodies, the majority of which were written by Bloom herself. Their collaboration ended in 1984 with the release of their final album Moonlight. Happily, in 2008 Chapter Music brought together two of these revered LPs, along with bonus tracks, in a double-CD compilation: Sing the Children Over/Sand In My Shoe. During a period in which Bloom was living in Florida director Richard Linklater discovered her music and subsequently featured the song "Come Here" in his 1995 film, ‘Before Sunrise’ By many accounts, the haunting allure of “Come Here” makes its defining moment in the film one of the most romantic of all time. Albums from this fertile period include Love Explosion (1993), It’s Just a Dream (1996), Love is Here (1999), and Come Here: The Florida Years (1999). In 2000, Bloom returned home to New England. Kath, husband Stan Bronski, and Tom Hanford (a long-time collaborator from the Loren Connors days) rejoined forces as the Love At Work Band. Along the way, frequent contributors include Fran Patnaude (guitar), Chris Butler (drums) and Heidi Randall (vocals); Marty Carlson (guitar) sometimes sits in as a special guest. In addition to Kath’s own songs, Love at Work serves up a frothy homebrew of vintage roots, blues, and rock 'n' roll. In 2005, Chapter Music brought to light a number of Bloom’s undiscovered gems from the 90’s and released this gorgeous collection as Finally. This collection reveals the timeless quality of these heartbreaking, haunting and remarkably beautiful songs. Both the depth and the breadth of Kath’s song writing are on display. The Terror CD followed in 2008. Most tracks feature Bloom’s gentle guitar picking, haunting vocals, and mournful harmonica. Providing brilliant backup is the full, extended cast of band mates from Love at Work. Greeted with glowing acclaim, Loving Takes This Course: A Tribute to the Songs of Kath Bloom made its debut in 2009. In 1986, at the height of the hardcore movement in New York City, the underground scene gave birth to one the most original hybrids of hardcore. Back then lead vocalist Jim Williams had already established himself in the hardcore community as a drummer with such early bands as SARCASM and NAUSEA. Jim was passionate about bringing together an unlikely group of musicians to challenge the existing musical boundaries with something new and very exciting. And the many connections he had developed while working the door at CBGB made him uniquely suited for the challenge of assembling a diverse group, MAXIMUM PENALTY.

REFUSE RESIST was born in a garage just north of Boston with a goal to create music that they would want to listen to and sing along to.
