On February 11th, Yep Roc Records will release a reissue of the Rockpile album Seconds of Pleasure. INFORMATION:
'Poemss' is a musical project from Toronto-based producer and music artist Joanne Pollock in collaboration with Aaron Funk, who’s recorded music as Venetian Snares. They met in Europe but when Joanne played Aaron her music and visited him at his studio, collaboration started to happen soon after. Poemss will surprise anyone who equates Aaron’s music solely with his hard-edged, drum-driven output. The record is the result of a true partnership, with both artists contributing to the writing and performance of the music, the technical aspects of production and to the performance and treatment of the vocals. The result is a collection of soft and dreamlike ballads; Aaron and Joanne's singing adding both texture and poetry to the album. They explain how the record came about:
!"This album was made between January and May of 2013. !
TRACK LISTING: 2LP A: ANCIENT PONY HEADS ON HEADS BEDTIME B: MOVIESCAPES MILES AWAY C: GENTLE MIRROR THINK OF SOMEWHERE NICE D: LOSING MEANING HALL OF FACES THINK OF SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL

CD 01 ANCIENT PONY 02 HEADS ON HEADS 03 BEDTIME 04 MOVIESCAPES 05 MILES AWAY 06 GENTLE MIRROR 07 THINK OF SOMEWHERE NICE 08 LOSING MEANING 09 HALL OF FACES 10 THINK OF SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL
!!
To us, this album is an album of beginnings. It’s the beginning of knowing someone, the beginning of a new creative endeavour, and fresh possibilities.
!The very first song that we wrote together is included in these
tracks, and was to us just an experiment. As musicians, it seemed natural to see what we would make. We can hear ourselves becoming more comfortable with each other as it progresses; an evolution recorded in an album.
!This record comes from a very intimate place for both of us, largely because it was recorded in Aaron's house, where Joanne was visiting at the time.
!However, although it was recorded in Winnipeg, to us this
record seems less rooted in a particular place or time, and seems more to be born out of our thoughts, dreams, and reflections. Listening back to every track, it is difficult for us to isolate which parts either of us brought individually to each song. We launch each other creatively, melodically.
!One of us will usually be inspired again to add to what the
other is laying down and it works in a kind of cycle like this. It's a nice way to flow and pleasantly surprising to see what the other person brings to it. Much of the time, it really sounds like the two of us together rather than a combination of what we do individually."

Punk 45: There is No Such Thing As Society. Get A Job, Get A Car, Get A Bed, Get Drunk! Underground Punk and Post-‐Punk in the UK 1977-‐81 is the second volume in this series, released following on from Soul Jazz Records’ recent massive deluxe 400-‐page Punk 45 cover art book, edited and compiled by Jon Savage (author of the seminal book on punk, ‘England’s Dreaming’) and Stuart Baker (founder of Soul Jazz Records). While the first album in this series, Punk 45: Kill The Hippies! (!2$#/2% 42!88 $!.#% -!.)! 2%#/2$3 Strut presents Hardcore Traxx: Dance Mania Records 1986-1997, the first definitive retrospective of one of Chicago’s most important and innovative house music labels. Emerging as a raw alternative to the powerhouses of Trax and DJ International during the mid-‘80s, Dance Mania continued to represent street-level Chicago club music into the ‘90s, helping to pioneer the Ghetto House sound. Hardcore Traxx traces the full story of the label from its heyday. Founded in 1985 and managed by Ray Barney, Dance Mania hit the ground running with its second release in ’86. Barney quickly became a trustworthy outlet for early house and acid productions by upcoming Chicago artists. The label set out its stall with a series of landmark Chicago releases including “7 Ways” by Hercules (Marshall Jefferson), Li’l Louis’ “The Original Video Clash,” and international smash “House Nation” by Housemaster Boyz. During the ‘80s, it cemented its reputation for uncompromising club records and DJ Tools with sounds spanning raw garage, acid trax, and quality house. Into the ‘90s, Barney unleashed the groundbreaking "Hit It From The Back" by Traxmen and Eric Martin, ushering in a primitive new sound around faster, stripped down rhythms and X-rated party-starting lyric lines. Barney remembers, “Guys used to call in and ask for music on Dance Mania – they were saying, ‘gimme some of that ghetto stuff.’ Dance Mania producer DJ Slugo adds, “when we made Ghetto House… we made music for the bitches. Music for the grinding sh*t and all of that.” The sound spawned a whole new swathe of homegrown producers releasing a fast flow of no-compromise dancefloor bangers: Paul Johnson, DJ Deeon, DJ Funk, DJ Milton, Waxmaster and Slugo all became leaders of the scene. The influence of ghetto house became widespread, not least for Daft Punk, whose track "Teachers" from their Homework album in 1997 was effectively a tribute to Dance Mania. The new wave of productions also paved the way for the later Chicago juke and footwork scene. Today, with the label back up and running courtesy of Ray Barney and Parris Mitchell, Dance Mania remains a revered Chicago institution across dance music. With Hardcore Traxx, Strut traces the history of the label on a definitive compilation for the first time, from the early classics to ghetto house anthems alongside big money rarities and oddities hidden within their substantial catalogue. Producecd in association with Dance Mania, compiled by DJ Conor Keeling, with help from Miles Simpson of Ransom Note.

Ryan Hunn, AKA Illum Sphere, is founder of Manchester’s renowned club night Hoya:Hoya, has remixed Radiohead, toured the world’s best club nights and released music on some of its finest imprints – 3024, Tectonic,Young Turks, and now Ninja Tune, where he’s found a long term home.

His album arrives on the back of eager expectation. If anyone seemed set to make one of the standout albums of the era, it was Illum Sphere. The good news is that he’s delivered in spades. Ghosts of Then and Now has been deliberately and uncompromisingly conceived as a full length record; an album in the traditional sense, full of music that couldn’t be more modern, whilst nodding to Hunn's various influences.

Opener "Liquesce" – which features the drumming of Shigeto – is aptly titled, conjuring as it does a sense of blissful dissolution. It also contains a haunting refrain that’s deceptively familiar, the sort of melody line you’ll hear for years. The song ends abruptly (and cleverly) in a deep intake of breath, as if preparing itself for the album ahead. "At Night" shows not only how adept with vocals Illum Sphere is – layering Mai Nestor of Facit’s beautiful voice into his music in a startlingly effective fashion – but also just how far he pushes the template of his form. Elements of all the go-to genres’ glitch, bass and drum experimentation are present here, but Hunn has mastered them completely, using them only for genuine emotive effect. "The Road" is the first of three fruitful collaborations with Shadowbox, AKA Bonnie Baxter. Driving drums with an industrial edge merge with anxious synths and looping, lilting melodies, the distinctive, rich vocal both seductive and foreboding. "It’ll Be Over Soon" builds from an exploratory, ominous groove to a frenetic, restless release, in a study of mood that approaches the existential. "Lights Out In Shinjuku"'s deep bass and elemental, sci-fi synths steer the album towards its transcendental ending in "Embryonic". This the final part of the three Shadowbox collaborations, see her return to glorious effect. A simple, shuffle-swing drum and haunting melody give way to abruptly to ocean-deep bass and vast, emotive melody. Ghosts of Then and Now is further proof that electronic music is taking giant leaps forward. This is a record so rich in ideas, themes, textures and writing that it will draw the listener in time and time again. As such, it will take its place alongside the best works in the form. Overview "the EP manages to communicate a fully realized artistic persona, one that finds the beating heart underneath all that scratched vinyl." - Pitchfork LuckyMe are very proud to announce the signing of Cashmere Cat, the production alias of young Norwegian producer Magnus August Hoiberg. Cashmere has caught a buzz this year amidst rumors of some big name production work alongside Rihanna hit-maker Benny Blanco. But perhaps this a story you got used to this year as our artists produced for Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Drake, Pusha T, Future, Jeremih, Ludacris, Rick Ross & Kanye West – LuckyMe is here to present new music with it’s own purpose.

Not dependent on vocalists, Cashmere Cat’s own music is crammed full of smart melodic ideas and arrangement. These are songs built in equal parts from glittering RnB, touching on French electro, driven by the heavyweight bottom end of 00’s club Hip Hop – this is wide, cinematic and unabashedly bright new dance music. Rarely does a new artist emerge with such a unique voice across their work – Cashmere Cat is unconcerned with where he fits with DJs and is more influenced by Pop & Hip Hop than today’s stadium filling dance acts. But his music is smarter for it. The four track Wedding Bells EP brings you Cashmere Cat’s first vinyl release and a taste of what’s to come. For those previously familiar with Cashmere Cat, the Wedding Bells EP represents the next stage in his development with striking attention to detail whilst never loosing its hooks. Along with support so far from: Kode 9, Éclair Fifi, Nguzunguzu, Hud Mo, Rustie, Baauer, Diplo, Skrillex, A Trak, Brodinski – We are honored to be working with CC to bring you his attempt at a perfect thing in an imperfect world.

Railroad Earth’s seventh album is their most evocative and ambitious set to date. At once melancholic and joyous, often deep, yet always accessible, the album captures the band as they are now; twelve years in, wiser and worn and pondering how this life affects those around them. Every song has a story and every story has its meaning. Last of the Outlaws began its journey at a remote private studio in rural Western New Jersey. Band member John Skehan happened upon it while looking at a piano for sale and was immediately taken by the spacious studio built into a beautiful private home in the woods. A few calls and visits later and Railroad Earth had become the first outside artist to set up camp and lock out the space for an extended period. With their gear in place, they hit record and began playing and exploring new sonic palettes. Songwriter Todd Sheaffer infused the process with a healthy dose of new songs that set the tone and direction for what followed. And what followed was an album filled with stories of birth, death, heartache, joy, sadness, redemption, loss of our heroes, and even a lesson or two from old ghosts straight from the hangman’s noose. A band of multi-instrumentalists, Railroad Earth pushed the boundaries on Last of the Outlaws, introducing string sections, horn sections, acoustic piano, electric guitars, penny whistle and more to their core sound, with every note played by the six band members. They even took their first foray into long-form music with, “All That’s Dead May Live Again / Face With A Hole,” an ambitious twenty-one minute Progressive-Folk masterpiece with seven movements and lyrics that grapple the human condition, making sense out of random acts of violence in society and the responsibility to find our way back to our hopeful nature. Other standout tracks, like album opener “Chasin’ a Rainbow,” which looks back at the journey that brought them here, “Monkey,” about dealing with personal demons, the rollicking and self-explanatory, “One More Night on the Road,” and the lonesome title track, “The Last of the Outlaws,” about holding on to a life that’s no longer there, may help to mark this as Railroad Earth’s most genuine studio effort yet.

Bike For Three! is the well-lucked and mysterious cross-continental duo of Canadian indie-rap legend Richard Terfry (Buck 65) and budding Belgian electronicist Joëlle Phuong Minh Lê (Greetings From Tuskan). Shrouded TRACKLISTING in strange magic, anchored by the heavy stuff of life, and lifted by a mutual magnetism still uncharted, their 1 Intro music is a bright/stunning combination of downtempo textures, smart pop, and exposed lyrical bones.
2 Full Moon 3 Agony 4 Heart As Hell 5 Successful With Heavy Losses 6 Wolf Sister 7 Ethereal Love 8 The Last Romance Joëlle was raised in Brussels by her Vietnamese mother, a painter and a chef, and remembers fondly the piquant scents she’d chase around mom’s restaurant. She was infatuated with the piano at her primary school, 9 Sublimation 10 You Can Be Everything and took lessons when she wasn’t painting or tinkering with music boxes. She learned cello too, pursued photography (she’s now a successful digital video artist), and studied music theory in college, where she 11 The Muse Inside Me discovered that art-making brought back her childhood memories in vivid detail. She has magic secrets—and 12 Stay Close Until We perhaps a touch of clairvoyance—that she put to work in creating 2006’s striking Greetings From Tuskan LP Reach The End debut, Lullabies For The Warriors. To this day, there are details that even Rich doesn’t understand about 13 The Dream Joëlle’s immaculate productions. Naturally, that’s another detail that he loves. 14 Conflation 15 Outro Bike For Three!’s constituent parts have never met in person, and they might not ever. She found him, and Over 15 years, Richard has carved out a corner of hip-hop history by unraveling ornate and dust-caked yarns, often over beat-addled soundscapes, as on his seminal “Language Arts” album series (Anticon released part three, Man Overboard, in ’01), and unadorned as well (he recently became host of CBC’s “Radio 2 Drive” show). For his last record, 2007’s Situation (released on Sage Francis’ Strange Famous label), the man crafted an entire song-cycle around the narrative minutiae of 1957—Rich’s love for a good story is famous. Considering, he couldn’t have found a better partner for his latest work.
their story unfurls in real time along with their songs. Joëlle sends Rich music; Rich writes to the moods and movements that she’s designed; Joëlle nurtures each piece into an animate whole. Bf3! actually finds Buck 65 eschewing traditional narrative forms in favor of an intimate stream of consciousness (offset by tight rhyme cadence) that mines the craggier depths of romance both requited and out-of-reach, real and imagined (which perfectly befits Bf3!’s working relationship). The things Rich wouldn’t speak of in conversation thus become part of the conversation happening on record.
So Much Forever, the second album for Bike For Three! is the anxiously awaited 50th release on Fake Four Inc. February 11, 2014.

Fire Records are proud to announce the signing of celebrated singer-songwriter Mark Mulcahy for his eagerly anticipated new album, his first studio release since 2005's critically acclaimed In Pursuit Of Your Happiness. Armed with his trusty Epiphone and his wonderfully emotive vocals, Mark Mulcahy recorded the new album in Northampton, Massachusetts with Henning Ohlenbusch. The album was mixed by Grammy-winning producer Paul Q. Kolderie and was mastered by Mark's longtime collaborator Myles Mangino. Mark Mulcahy is the former singer of Miracle Legion. Following the demise of the band, Mark’s solo career began with Fathering, an album that received universal praise including Album Of The Month in Uncut and Album Of The Week in The Guardian. From there followed albums Smilesunset and In Pursuit Of Your Happiness, countless radio sessions and huge critical acclaim for both his songwriting prowess and his remarkable voice. In 2008 he put everything on hold to look after his children following the tragic death of his wife. To assist him through these troubled times many of his long-time fans in the music industry banded together to record an album of his songs as a tribute to his wife and the result was 2009’s Ciao My Shining Star, featuring the likes of Michael Stipe, Thom Yorke, Frank Black, Mercury Rev, Dinosaur Jr and The National. 1. Having relocated to Brighton, Keel Her returns to full-tilt, dream-fuzz tuneage with new single “Don’t Look At Me”, taken from her forthcoming full-length due for release on Critical Heights in early 2014. “Don’t Look At Me” is a real gem that comes equipped with everything you love about Rose Keeler-Schäffeler’s take on pop music – those echoey vocals, tumbledown beats and a melody line plucked from a battered Strat. As ever, it trips a wonderful line between joy and melancholy and doesn’t outstay its welcome – one for repeated-spinning into the cold nights ahead. Our prolific hero serves up a real beauty on the flip too – “Pussywhipped” starts with bright keys and whirlpools, then once the hook soars you’re won over by another Keeler-Schäffeler mini-masterpiece. In 2011 LA upstart rap label Hellfyre Club (Subsidiary of Alpha Pup) released Open Mike Eagle’s “Rappers Will Die of Natural Causes”. Widely considered an indie-rap watermark, the LA Times said of the album: “the Los Angeles-based Project Blowedian has carved out a singular niche. He’s analytical, sardonic, political, and he manages not to take himself seriously despite taking everything seriously.” From dark themes like mortality and race relations, Mike managed to draw out some of his most imaginative and witty work. And with features like Rhymesayers Entertainment’s P.O.S. and art rap godfather MC Paul Barman, it was the release that put Open Mike Eagle into the national rap conversation. Music from it has been featured on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, Gilles Peterson BBC Radio show, and NPR’s WITS show and its now available for the first time on vinyl with bonus digital material featuring Daedelus, Serengeti, Busdriver and more.
