“Guidance features a more bad-ass Russian Circles, a group that seems less elegiac, and more ready to plant their feet solidly on the ground, fighting back bloodied and bruised against each body blow.” – Pitchfork “...the album – the group’s sixth – is moody, dense and dynamic, the gripping soundtrack to an un-filmed drama.” – Rolling Stone

With their sixth album Guidance, Russian

Circles carry on in their quest to conjure multi-dimensional

dramatic

narratives and to scout out new textures from their respective instruments. Songs aren’t

constructed out of highbrow concepts; they’re forged out of gut instinct and base emotional

response. Nor was the band—as is often

the case with artists later in their career—

interested in testing their fans’ patience or securing a new broader audience with a radical

reinvention. Instead, Russian Circles use Guidance to continue examining the polarity of quiet

and loud, complexity and simplicity, ugliness and beauty. Every Russian Circles album has had its share of new sonic vistas, and Guidance finds the band still searching out new sounds

while continuing to play to the collective strengths of guitarist Mike Sullivan, drummer Dave

Starting with the meditative restraint of album opener (“Mota”), mercurial anthems (“Afrika”), somber segues (“Overboard”), and seismic Americana Russian Circles were able to capture this broad tonal palette and wide array of emotional motifs We often expect artists to fall into patterns and formulas, but for Russian Circles the creative method is still a mystery. Songs develop at their own pace. Inspiration comes from strange

sources. If anything, the process of writing is every bit the enigma it was back when the band crafted their first song in 2004. Life itself is a struggle with the unknown and a search for

meaning, and the creative process for Russian Circles has mirrored that pursuit. The radical

JONAH TOLCHIN THOUSAND MILE NIGHT

WORLDWIDE RELEASE DATE CD/LP: AUGUST 5, 2016

Immediately after Jonah Tolchin finished recording his new album, Thousand Mile Night, he got behind the wheel and lived it, driving from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, all the way back to his native New Jersey with guitarist Lucas Hamren and drummer Michael Bosco in one straight shot. By the time the car finally coasted into Hamren’s driveway, the odometer had accumulated 998 miles. Tolchin said his goodbyes, gathered his things from the back seat, and began the walk to his childhood home on nearby Clover Lane. It was precisely two more miles. The universe is full of signs, and there could be no clearer omen for Jonah Tolchin than the mileage of that epic trip: he’d had made the perfect album for the perfect moment in his life. Recorded at the legendary FAME Studios (Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin), Thousand Mile Night charts the young songwriter’s remarkable growth, both personally and artistically, as he digs deep into the roots of American music with a distinctly modern perspective, tackling everything from love and marriage to life on the road to loneliness and depression with a deft lyrical touch. The album follows Tolchin’s acclaimed Yep Roc debut, Clover Lane, which was recorded in Nashville with a slew of special guests including Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin and Deer Tick’s John McCauley. NPR called Tolchin “a promising new artist who artfully occupies the gulf between old-school tradition and contemporary appropriation,” while Uncut said he “demonstrates the finesse and maturity of someone like Jason Isbell,” and MOJO praised him for “adding raw, punk brio to a folk-blues template.” Tolchin once again teamed up with producer/multi-instrumentalist Marvin Etzioni, who helped shepherd Clover Lane, and rounded out the band with Hamren on guitar, Bosco on drums, and Jamie McFarlane (son of legendary Muscle Shoals musician Will McFarlane) on bass. Rather than prep everyone for the whirlwind sessions, though, Tolchin kept them in the dark until it was time to press record. The result is free-wheeling and instinctual, the rare sound of a group of artists discovering the magic and mystery in the songs at the same time as they reveal themselves to the listener. It all begins with album opener “Beauty In The Ugliest Days,” a beautiful showcase of Tolchin’s young-man-with-an-old-soul brand of heartfelt philosophy featuring a performance by Bob Marley drummer “Santa” Davis. It’s a song of resilience, a gentle dose of Zen reassurance in the face of doubt that every dark cloud does indeed come with a silver lining. With an album this outstanding, we don’t have to wonder much about what’s in store for Jonah Tolchin. It’s safe to say there will be many more thousand-mile nights in his future as he takes these songs across the country and around the world, bringing beauty and truth and silver linings wherever he goes, “driving all night,” as he sings, “on a little bit of faith.”

“…he delivers a mix of country, folk, and blues in a compelling and accessible voice.” –Philadelphia Inquirer “Jonah Tolchin is the type of artist who embodies a soul and spirit to which many aspire.” –No Depression

JEREMY & THE HARLEQUINS INTO THE NIGHT

WORLDWIDE RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 5, 2016

With the release of second album, Into the Night, New York five-piece Jeremy & The Harlequins are building on the momentum of last year’s debut, American Dreamer. Not only was one of that record’s songs – ‘Trip Into The Light’ – featured in the Tom Cruise movie Edge Of Tomorrow, it was also voted as the Coolest Song in the World of 2015 by the listeners of Little Steven’s Underground Garage radio show, after Bruce Springsteen’s right hand man, Steve Van Zandt, personally picked it as his coolest track in the world for the month of July. Into the Night recalls the glamor of rock ‘n’ roll’s past while simultaneously forging forward into the future with attitude. Channeling the influences of 1950s and ’60s rock’n’roll through the (cell phone) camera lens of 2016, Jeremy & The Harlequins – Jeremy Fury (vocals), Craig Bonich and Patrick Meyer (guitars), Stevie Fury (drums) and Bobby Ever (bass) – have once again captured the sound of New York both in the here and now and the there and then. It’s a record about love and loss, tragedy and romanticism, dreams and reality, as well as everything in between, and its ten songs are at once familiar and fresh, a new friend it feels like you’ve known for decades.

“Jeremy & The Harlequins are poised to start a classic rock ‘n’ roll revival” - NYLON “Doo-wop garage revivalists…” - CMJ

London-based electronic songwriter Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles is to release his most personal work to date in the form of a mini-album titled ‘Night Melody’ through Erased Tapes on 5th August 2016. Coinciding with this new release is a very limited edition of his 2014 Sonne EP on yellow vinyl! Continuing on from his Odyssey EP released in 2013, Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles creates atmosphere and space whilst exploring waves of sound and rhythm, and the power of colour. With Sonne Ryan creates music to structure itself around a pulse, rather than the pulse being the defining point. The title track begins with “a very subtle set of melodies that repeat almost without confidence, and then gradually give way to a huge collage of colour and power”, as Ryan describes it. Not relying on a conventional beat, it’s a prime example of how an analogue synthesiser can create the power and momentum of a rhythm section. From the distorted waves in 3 Chords, growing and shrinking, to the rhythmic waves of constant speeding up and then slowing down in Recovery, it’s the Moog Voyager, Prophet and tape delay that make up the core sound of the EP. Whilst tracks like Helios, Haunt and Think Tank see West play live drums and acoustic guitar. “I’m often looking at art in exhibitions and I always think to myself ‘why the hell don’t I have this much colour in my work?’ The answer in part I think is down to synthesis. It is very difficult to create colour without it sounding plastic. Colour in music is both the note combinations and the actual timbre of the sounds. There are lots of instances of very colourful ambient sounds, which I took great care to create for each song, using various methods – from passing analogue synths through chains of effects to chopping up random sequences of recordings and forming tiny collages." – Ryan Lee West Resembling the colour and vibrancy in his music, the cover art was created by South London artist Supermundane, who was also responsible for the artwork of the Odyssey EP. This summer will see Ryan follow on from his recent North American Tour with the appearance at many festivals including Lovebox, Secret Garden Party, La Route Du Rock, Sea Change and Tale of Us-curated Afterlife party at Space, Ibiza. Some might be surprised that London based electronic producer Ryan Lee West, the man behind Rival Consoles, shares a home with contemporary classical composers such as Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds and Peter Broderick. And yet they have a lot more in common than expected. Fascinated by sound from an early age, Ryan chose to dedicate his time to studying, experimenting with and producing sound graduating from De Montfort University in Leicester. One consistent element in his musical journey has been his desire to create a more organic, humanised sound. Ryan often drafts early ideas on piano, violin and guitar, although the end result is much more electronic-laden. As an accomplished sound designer he has repeatedly performed at the Tate, and recently created a bespoke audio-visual performance for Boiler Room at the V&A. Ryan is currently composing music for a BBC production. 'Atmospheric synths swell victoriously' – XLR8R 'Glorious...unabashedly epic...’ – Dummy ‘Rival Consoles, is the likes of Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds' glitchy, electronic cousin’ 8/10 – The 405

London-based electronic songwriter Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles to release his most personal work to date in the form of a mini-album titled ‘Night Melody’ through Erased Tapes on 5th August 2016. During the release of his acclaimed full-length album ‘Howl’ and heavy touring in late 2015, Ryan came out of a 13-year long relationship and found himself making music throughout the winter months. The result of his efforts is a 34-minute, 6-track mini album ‘Night Melody’, born out of and shaped by long hours working into the night. It’s nocturnal in sound; mysterious in the way that the early hours so often are. “I found myself, in a silent home, with the days getting dark very early. I’ve never before in my life been affected by the lack of light so much. I just remember it always being night time. I would either make music into the night, go out drinking with friends, or go to parties and dance into the early hours, every day, week after week, month after month, until eventually the days became brighter again.” The opening statement ‘Pattern of the North’ starts off with a collage of spliced synth melodies, inspired by anxiety that accompanies going home for Christmas. It’s followed by ‘Johannesburg’, an early sketch gradually filled out during his tour in South Africa. “After playing it around some of the cities, I got a lot of inspiration to bring it to life and push it into something that really moves me. I think this is one of my most colourful pieces of music, with its driving rhythm and almost a homage to Terry Riley’s ‘In C’ towards the end, with a build of very simple, hypnotic parts. I especially love that for over five minutes the piece is tied to just one note. This makes the ending very dramatic, because all of a sudden there is this harmonic change.” ‘Lone’ started life around the time Ryan was working on his ‘Sonne’ EP in 2014. It’s the result of constant adjustments to find the perfect balance of fragility and assurance. As everything on the album, it’s a carefully considered, emotionally mature piece. “I think, as I get older, I need music to represent something and not just sound interesting, though of course the two are connected.” The closing statement ‘What Sorrow’ is a fitting end to the album, building from gentle melancholia to a joyous crescendo. It’s a sensibility that’s central to the record; joy and sorrow both find their counterpoints. “This record is very personal to me and I hope it offers something for other people, as it helped me to make it and to listen to it. Almost every synth line was recorded intuitively, without perfection but with a lot of intention and expression. I’m not interested in making something sad or making something happy. I want music to be bittersweet, to be more complex, like life – containing moments of vibrant colour and hope, as much as darkness and sadness.” This summer will see Ryan follow on from his recent North American Tour with the appearance at many festivals including Lovebox, Secret Garden Party, La Route Du Rock, Sea Change and Tale of Us-curated Afterlife party at Space, Ibiza. ‘Night Melody’ will be available on 12” vinyl and digitally, August 5th. Description:

Heaters Baptistina Label: Beyond Beyond is Beyond Catalog Number: BBIBR029 LP / $18.99 / 857387005223

Less than a year after the release of “Holy Water Pool” – Heaters’ debut, a crushing, revelatory psycho-surf-rock anointment-as-album – there are no apparent signs of distress to the engine that powers this Michigan-made vehicle of sound. To the contrary, Heaters are operating at a higher horsepower than ever before, as evidenced by this new LP. “Baptistina” glimmers to a greater degree than anything Heaters have previously unleashed, a full-spectrum sheen that shines across the full panorama of righteous reverb riots. Heaters are in full control of their machine from the opening, looped-lunacy of “Centennial” to the final crash of “Seafoam,” forty-six minutes later – and yet the result of this increase in control can be heard as a willingness to crash their ship completely. But have faith in the pilots – Heaters are living for the next ride. “Centennial” rides the wave effortlessly, setting the tone for the album in full, hovering in the atmosphere above strutting, Bolan-blasts of riff-rock-lift-off perfection before letting the edges drift and blur, exploring the gravitational pull of less solid ground. Taking the first three songs of “Baptistina” – “Centennial,” “Ara Pacis” and “Orbs” – together is to take the sacrament of a singing, searing psych-rock sinfonia, an expertly-constructed breed of amplified surrealism, framed by the tight corners and unmistakable electric glory of what was once known as rock and roll. It doesn’t matter thatHeaters are not trying to answer the musical question, “What if Grand Funk Railroad got really into Flying Saucer Attack?”; what matters is that the answer is there for the taking. The album’s centerpiece may very well be “Garden Eater,” a perfectly prepared prescription of the relentless sonic schizophrenia in which Heaters deal so effectively. At nearly eight and a half minutes, it’s about twice as long as anything that appeared on “Holy Water Pool,” giving ample room for the band to spread their sound into broad, bold new dimensions – hypnotic, Hawkwind-hued chanting harmonies, anyone? – without ever detaching from the very root of their sound. It’s perhaps no surprise that the following track, playfully named “Dali,” would be a throbbing reminder of the persistence of memory, given its Silver Apples-esque flavor precedes the perfectly placed flower-power-pop of “Mango.” The final three tracks of “Baptistina” recall the superb symmetry of the album’s opening trio, an undeniable triptych of pace, power and persona, garage-rock gurus emerging from thin air, spent snares and a dramatic lack of cares. On “Baptistina,” Heaters don’t sound weirder than before – they simply are. - Ryan Muldoon

NO REGULAR PLAY CAN’T YOU SEE No Regular Play has come along way in their pursuit of sonic excellence. Their freshly completed second album, “Can’t You See”, is the duo’s finest showing to date. Forged amidst the fires of coping with the loss of a dear loved one, “Can’t You See” is a testament to the power of creativity triumphing over and transmuting adversity. The multi-instrumental and impressively talented band consists of born and bred Minnesotans Gregory Paulus & Nicholas DeBruyn who relocated to Brooklyn, NY, 10 years ago. They are the same Crew Love stalwarts that you should know and love. This time around, the gentleman have pushed their art and craft further than ever before, fine-tuning each individual sound on the album to an unprecedented level of detail with the help of talented producer, Alex "Hammer" Hamadey. The end result is a work that is robust, substantively deep and ready to soundtrack your night; be it a steamy dance floor or a romantic summer tryst. For the unfamiliar, No Regular Play’s creative essence is that of artists inspired by the dirty instincts of the late night dance floor but married to the lush harmony of the concert hall. This essence is on clear display in “Can’t You See”, and definitively thriving. The duo began composing this album shortly after the passing of Gregory Paulus’ father, Stephen Paulus, one of the most prolific American composers of the last century. Consequently, the core of the album is driven by their bold spirit to positively respond to a very intense period in their lives. The songwriting takes a deeper tone addressing the topics of life, death, hope, cherished memories and perseverance. “Can’t You See” is about remembrance and embracing the beautiful truth that the music will always live on. The second track of the album, “Lake Gilmore”, carries an eerie nostalgia that serenely enhances this theme of remembrance. The melody is an outline of a chord Stephen Paulus used to play frequently, a stylistic hallmark. No Regular Play recorded this melody on Stephen’s Steinway grand piano from 1925, a family heirloom and the same piano he wrote music on every day of his life. Throughout the album, there are many recordings made on Stephen’s piano, so listen closely on “Be Together” & “Never Be the Same”. These were some of the last notes played on the beloved instrument. No Regular Play will be touring “Can’t You See” the world over, expanding the project with a full live band including piano, drums, and saxophone. They have already gotten their feet wet with this wonderful live configuration, so catch them as they move forward, one step at a time towards the full-fledged musical masters they are destined to become.

Moss, however, prefers to describe his output as Synth Expressionism / Rhythmic Cubism and would rather be viewed simply as a promoter of Nubian Rights. FLORIAN KUPFER UNFINISHED Label: Technicolour Florian Kupfer first burst into dance music consciousness with 2013’s insta-classic Lifetrax, filling much of the subsequent two years with a flurry of singles (more on L.I.E.S., an anonymous but hotly picked-up white label edit of Sade, plus efforts for Rush Hour’s No ‘Label’ and W.T. Records and Technicolor in 2015). He surfaces once again for Technicolour — Ninja Tune's singles label—with Unfinished, a four-track EP, brimming with punchy percussion, swatches of low-end menace, mechanical grind at a steady build, and a deep unidentifiable rumble. SALES POINTS:

Since the inception of the trio in 2001, they’ve carved up imposing, yet weirdly cosy monoliths erected in the epic desert of original rock and roll. Pharaoh Overlord’s stoner rock klang on the debut is down-to-earth due to sheer weight of the riffs. The light touch and the ease with which Leppänen, Lehtisalo and Westerlund lift the weight of the riffs off the ground and propel them on abysmal orbits works like a magician’s trick, a cathartic sleight of hand. In the case of Pharaoh Overlord, the magic endures.
