Since their last album, Jeremy Greenspan, one-half of Junior Boys, has been busy co-writing and producing, including Jessy Lanza’s critically acclaimed album 2016 ‘Oh No.’ He has released three solo 12”s on Dan Snaith’s (Caribou) Jiaolong record label. The other half, Matt Didemus, has been exploring the outer limits of dance music in Berlin through techno label Obsession Recordings. They’ve rejoined forces to make 'Big Black Coat,’ a slick, soulful, synth-pop record fusing their illustrious trademark production with their love for R&B, soul, techno and pop music.
Quotes: “Having soaked up the influence of Detroit techno, Big Black Coat presents a side of the duo that we’ve rarely heard before.” - Pitchfork “[“Big Black Coat”] hangs with the genre’s best, riffing on Caribou’s subdued, nocturnal beats and How to Dress Well’s forlorn crooning.” – Entertainment Weekly “The Canadian act have carved a unique niche where memorable songs, offbeat lyrics and authentic underground club music meet.” - XLR8R

in the East of England. The 11 songs that comprise the new album have a distinctly warm palate, one that echoes his earlier work more. Now with a clearer range of sounds, Panda has found a more cohesive vision.
Quotes: “Gold Panda's warm and exuberant new album sounds quite unlike any of the electronic music being made in 2016, and is refreshingly unfashionable in that way.” – Pitchfork “Gold Panda blends repetition with rich sonic textures that are so diverse that they are almost tactile. This is one of 2016's best electronic albums so far, and it's difficult to see how it can be topped.” - Under the Radar “These songs contain more than organic qualities. They contain fullfledged organisms, audio-biologies that speed through life stages and gasp for air.” - PopMatters

THE FELICE BROTHERS
LIFE IN THE DARK AVAILABLE NOW!
“The Felice Brothers aspire to the weird, woozy vibe of The Band’s ‘Basement Tapes,’ and often approach it.” – SPIN “…songs that subtly but powerfully address the suddenly shakier foundations of Trump-era America.” – The Guardian “In short, this is Americana with a capital A. Here, that A also stands for Authenticity. Indeed, after an absence of four years, the Felice Brothers find themselves back in full stride.” – No Depression HIGHLIGHTS: • #10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart • #5 Alternative New Artist Chart • #20 Billboard’s Folk/Americana Chart • Top 50 Americana Radio Chart AUTUMN 2016 US TOUR: 9/7: Hamden, CT, The Ballroom at The Outer Space 9/8: New York, NY, Bowery Ballroom 9/9: Philadephia, PA, Boot & Saddle 9/10: Washington, DC, Rock & Roll Hotel 9/11: Pittsburgh, PA, Club Cafe 9/13: Chicago, IL, Schubas 9/15: Columbus, OH, Rumba Cafe 9/16: Toronto, ONT, Horseshoe Tavern 9/17: Toronto, ONT, Toronto Urban Roots Festival 9/18: Buffalo, NY, Tralf Music Hall 9/28: Richmond, VA, The Camel 9/29: Asheville, NC, Grey Eagle Tavern and Music Hall

NEW RELEASES
Street Date: 09.02.16 | Order Date: 08.12.16
CHATHAM COUNTY LINE AUTUMN WORLDWIDE RELEASE DATE (CD/LP): SEPTEMBER 2, 2016 “Our band is a lot like this place,” says Chatham County Line guitarist, lead singer and songwriter Dave Wilson. His eyes wander across the original hardwood lanes of the mid-century Raleigh bowling alley where he just finished rolling and drinking two rounds. Playing traditional string band instrumentation around a single microphone while clad in suits and ties visually projects a similar sepia-toned timelessness. “We create a product that you’re familiar with and you’ll enjoy going back to because you know what to expect. My dad ran a local hardware store years ago and I always felt like we shared that.” Sure enough, like a small town store, there’s no dramatic tale or sexy hook to fuel the hype machine for Autumn, the seventh studio album since the Raleigh, NC-based Chatham County Line—Wilson, John Teer (mandolin/fiddle), Chandler Holt (banjo), and Greg Readling (bass, pedal steel, piano)—coalesced in the late 1990’s. Instead, the story behind the workmanlike group’s newest release—available September 2, 2016 via Yep Roc Records—is simple: A veteran ensemble at the top of its game sticking to its considerable strengths—poignant songwriting and inventive acoustic arrangements that draw upon a broad array of American roots influences, highlighted by trademark three- and four-part harmonies that shine throughout. “We were so obsessive about the way Tightrope sounded and making sure we got the songs right that this record was kind of a 180 from that,” Wilson explains, referring to the meticulous, multi-year process that birthed Autumn’s predecessor. “I think we were all exhausted from that process and wanted to just take the songs I had written and record them.” Thanks to the more casual approach, Autumn marries the comfortable maturity of 2014’s Tightrope with the welcome spontaneity of Chatham County Line’s earlier work. Though the year between sessions wasn’t dedicated to consciously working on the record, it was perhaps the most productive period for the songs to take shape, according to Wilson. “It’s like leaving your desk and taking a walk: You have your best ideas when you’re not working on what you’re supposed to be working on.”
“The band’s close harmonies…are prominent and continue to be one of its best assets.”–Pitchfork “well-deserving of inclusion on a list of America’s best modern string bands” –The Bluegrass Situation TRACKLISTING: 1. THE FLESHTONES THE BAND DRINKS FOR FREE RELEASE DATE (CD/LP/DIGITAL): 9/2/16
One of the most energetic bands in the business, The Fleshtones will celebrate their 40th anniversary with the release of their 21st album, The Band Drinks For Free. Featuring 12 songs about love, deceit, and death in classic Fleshtones style, the album carelessly (to the purists) tosses together the fuzz-guitar and Farfisa organ riffs of so-called “garage rock” with rockabilly, soul, and surf. And, yes, the band still drinks for free. Dubbed “America’s Garage Rock Band” and “The Kings Of Garage Rock,” The Fleshtones have been the subject of books (Sweat by Joe Bonomo, Continuum Press 2007) and movies (Pardon Us For Living But The Graveyard’s Full, 2009) as well as amazement from fans and detractors alike. The Fleshtones are well into their fifth decade of making believers out of the most jaded naysayers with their mongrel stew known as “Super Rock.”
HIGHLIGHTS: • 2016 marks the band’s 40th anniversary! • Worldwide tour dates throughout 2016 • Record Store Day single, “End Of My Neighborhood” has been dubbed “Coolest song in the world” on SiriusXM - Little Steven’s Underground Garage, week of May 16th-20th TRACKLISTING: 1. Love Like A Man 2. Love My Lover 3. Rick Wakeman’s Cape 4. Suburban Roulette 5. Respect Our Love 6. Living Today 7. Too Many Memories 8. The Gasser 9. Stupid Ol’ Sun 10. The Sinner 11. A collaboration between Aphex Twin (Richard D. James) and µ–Ziq (Mike Paradinas), Mike & Rich - ’Expert Knob Twiddlers’ was made back in 1994. Richard edited the tracks into shape later in 1996 with his new Apple Mac computer and it was released later that year on Rephlex, the label he co-owned and which released the first two albums by µ-Ziq. This new reissued version has been carefully cleaned up, re-edited and remastered from the original DAT tapes, put into a more fitting order and, more excitingly, seven new bonus tracks and alternative versions have also been added.
DISC 1: 01 Mr. Frosty 02 Reg 03 Jelly Fish 04 Eggy Toast 05 Vodka 06 Winner Takes All 07 Upright Kangaroo 08 Giant Deflating Football 09 The Sound Of The Beady Eyes 10 Bu Bu Bu Ba DISC 2: 01 Vodka (Mix 2) 02 Portamento Gosh 03 Waltz 04 Brivert & Muonds 05 Clissold Bathroom 06 Jelly Fish (Mix 2) 07 Organ Plodder
The album was recorded over a few days during the 1994 World Cup, back when Richard lived in a big shared flat in Stoke Newington. Richard had tried to collaborate with a few other likeminded artists but something clicked when Mike and Rich worked together and the sessions have a unique feel; playful and at times actually drunk. These are fun experiments in the spirit of lighthearted moog pop and ripe 70s British TV themes, standing out from the po-faced electronica of the time with a garish glee. The record was made on what is now seen as pretty primitive gear - an Atari, Roland MKS-80, Memorymoog, Roland R8 and a handful of samples on a Casio FZ-10M but it’s to their credit that it resonates well with the hardware workouts coming out today. There's a broadminded but sloppy funk to the record, even whistling, singing and harpsichord in 'Reg' and wonky beat pile-ons in 'Jelly Fish'. There's latin piano and wheezy drunken techno in ‘Vodka’, or the sleepy spaced out ambience of ‘Bu Bu Bu Ba' with its barely contained laughter which seems to reflect the absurdity. The new versions and bonus tracks are an absolute delight and well worth the purchase - from a trancier version of ‘Vodka' to the wonky bounce of ‘Portamento Gosh', The 3/4 dub of 'Waltz,' the banging door bass of' Brivert and Muonds', the creepy seasick atmosphere of 'Clissold Bathroom' and finishing with the strangely graceful and serious 'Organ Plodder'. A generous and welcome return to the racks.

STILLICIDE Every music nerd has gotten roped into the desert island conversation. You know— what’s the one record you would bring with you to some remote location to provide solace for the rest of your days? Or better yet, what’s the one band whose catalog would always remain fresh to your ears, even after years and years of isolation? Of course, the ideal candidate would be a band who has a significant body of work, a band who’s songs span a variety of temperaments and timbres, and, obviously, a band that just plain rules. With their fourth album, Stillicide, Helms Alee prove that they might be the only group you would need for the rest of your life. Hyperbole? Perhaps. But the Washington state trio of Ben Verellen (guitar, vocals), Dana James (bass, vocals), and Hozoji Margullis (drums, vocals) delivers the kind of expertly crafted, dynamic, nuanced, and diverse songwriting that is both instantly engaging and—as evidenced by their previous albums Night Terror (2008), Weatherhead (2011), and Sleepwalking Sailors (2014)—increasingly gratifying after years of repeated listens. With Stillicide, Helms Alee continues their sonic tradition of blending heavy riffs, dark guitar pop, and math rock into songs that are at turns brutal, anthemic, and cerebrally engaging. After nearly a decade of existence, one can only assume that a band is either entering their sunset years or striding with such artistic strength and confidence that they are creating a whole new legacy for themselves. With Helms Alee, it is obviously the latter scenario. The band set a high bar for themselves with their spectacular debut album Night Terror, but every subsequent release has trumped their previous endeavors. Bolstered by the recording and production expertise of Kurt Ballou at God City Studios, Stillicide is not only the group’s strongest collection of songs, it is arguably their best sounding release to date. The heavier moments are that much more oppressive; their melodic angles are that much more beguiling, and the juxtaposition between Verellen’s patriarchal roar and the siren song vocals of James and Margullis is that much more exhilarating. If there was only one band you could listen to for the rest of your life, Helms Alee would satiate most every emotional yearning. And if you could only pick one of their albums, you’d gravitate towards the best document of their textural range and songwriting chops. You’d gravitate towards Stillicide.

Two significant figures in the formation of New York’s so-called ‘Downtown’ scene, multiinstrumentalist/composer Elliott Sharp and actor/director Steve Buscemi have teamed up intermittently throughout the years to perform together. On April 21, 2014, the pair met up at Issue Project Room to kick off the final week of WSB100, New York’s month-long celebration for the 100th anniversary of the birth of iconoclastic American writer William S. Burroughs. Taken from the recordings of that performance, this CD features a series of collaged sounds and spoken texts from throughout William Burroughs’s written output.

Signals Midwest At This Age TE158 12” LP on 150g Black Vinyl w/ Insert, DL Code • CD w/ Digipak
RELEASE DATE :

t This Age, Signals Midwest’s fourth full-length album, is both a testament to change and a reflection of a band at a pivotal moment in their lives. Produced by Into It. Over It.’s Evan Weiss at Atlas Studios in Chicago IL, At This Age might be the Cleveland, OH oufit’s most direct, stripped-down songwriting, but it’s an album that sounds huge. At times urgent and anthemic, and at others intimate and poignant, At This Age isn’t just an album, it’s a part of Signals Midwest - a cathartic release of angst and anxiety and vulnerability and maturation. It’s their way of communicating with the world and navigating the creeping fear that comes with change.

An epic reinterpretation of an epic album. Oceanic is the 2002 album for Isis, ● Remastered for vinyl by James Plotkin. rightly viewed as masterpiece of post-hardcore aggression and hypno-rock ● 3 different colors of vinyl and housed in custom letter pressed jackets . velocity. Isis' open-ended riffs for guitar, bass, and drum are the swollen,
mutant descendants of rock minimalism, where the crescendo and control dictate the dynamics of a song, not necessarily melody and harmony. By 2005, Isis had commissioned a number of remixes from Oceanic that were originally a series of 4 singles, then compiled onto a double cd and vinyl box-set. In describing the inception to the project, Isis frontman Aaron Turner suggests, "we thought would understand the original aesthetic/intent while simultaneously bringing their own perspective to it. We wanted to be able to hear own music from an alternate perspective and were hoping these artists would help reveal some of the latent aspects of our music, with a special emphasis on texture and atmosphere." Those asked to participate were all artists with whom Isis had direct involvement as tour-mates and / or profound admiration, including Christian Fennesz, Tim Hecker, Mike Patton, JK Broadrick, James Plotkin, Thomas Köner, Venetian Snares, Deadverse, Destructo Swarmbots, Speedranch, Ayal Naor, and Teledubgnosis. The remixes essentially fracture the originals emphasizing and magnifying particular facets and idiosyncrasies to the Isis sound. Fennesz with his signal-heterodyned miasma and Tim Hecker with his two blurred sound-pools of radioluminescence expand Isis' art of the drone. The Isis dynamics of explode-and-release are furthered by Ayal Naor and JK Broadrick. Electronic dub of varying depths of deep-sea exploration are plumbed by Thomas Köner, Deadverse, and Technodubgnosis. The unconventional turns come from James Plotkin with his Lowery organ reconstruction of Isis' open-ended riffs, the paisley-pop cavalcade from Mike Patton, and the spry electro-funk from Venetian Snares.
SELECTED QUOTES: “With such artists as Mike Patton, Tim Hecker, Ayal Naor, JK Broadrick, and more, Isis receive an extended arm to assist them in making their sound more dense, atmospheric, and more original than before.” Sputnik Music “[T]he excellent source materials have been thoroughly transformed … [e]ach of the interpreters is top-notch and has thoughtfully approached the process.” Dusted Magazine DISTRIBUTION United States Redeye Distribution wendy@redeyeworldwide.com UK/Europe Shellshock Distribution chris@shellshock.co.uk / +44 (0)208 800 8110 Canada FAB Distribution www.fab.ca / 450-465-2389 InternationalHydra Head Records King’s Road Merch

SELECTED QUOTES: “Mare makes their way through five provocative tracks, oscillating between taut, razor-sharp guitar twang and elephantine bass and drums, stirringly moving between choked howls and lonely melancholic cries. The EP brims with a real sense of development, texture and drama.” - Dusted Magazine
Mare remains one of the enigmatic entries in the Hydra Head roster of artists, as this eponymous EP represents the band's one and only recording. This Canadian trio consisted of vocalist / guitarist Tyler Semrick-Palmateer, Rob Shortil on bass, and drummer Caleb Collins. The band had a short run from 2004 to 2007, emerging out of Toronto's death / tech-metal community with Semrick-Palmateer had cut his teeth on vocals in The End. On the five songs of Mare, the band assembled a menacing composite of styles and forms -sludge-metal, math-rock, classic prog idioms, and the diaphonic harmonies from Bulgarian chorals.
“This EP is well-worth some hard-earned dough and is surprisingly complex. I find myself catching more and more every listen, and this is after two weeks of nearly constant rotation. In conclusion, stop reading my freaking review and go buy this now!!!” - Encyclopaedia Metallum
DISTRIBUTION
Film and musical theatre also work into chimera of influences with the band mentioning that both 2001: A Space Odyssey and Jesus Christ Superstar had been in heavy rotation during the writing and production of the album. Sonically, Mare concentrates on monolith of trudging rhythms and densely packed riffs squeezed through numerous time signature changes and sudden shifts in velocity. Semrick-Palmateer's vocals are a unique feature to Mare's aesthetic, throat-scraping with bellowing howls and harrowing screams before gliding into the form of a silver-tongued crooner such Jeff Buckley or even Chet Baker. "They Sent You" and "Tropics" situates the beatific facet of the vocals in concert with gilded arrangement for French horn before the trio locks into a formidable post-hardcore groove of dissonance and crushed chord progressions.

About It’s the crate digger’s dream or nightmare. The modern day musical archaeologist is always in search of that elusive piece of a musical puzzle. Dusting off a slice of unknown vinyl or a mystery tape in a battered box might just open up another chapter of discovery that illuminates the art of the people. Enter 180 Proof’s Amir Abdullah who, since 2010, has been getting dusty digits sifting through the master tapes in the Strata studio in Detroit. It’s there that he discovered and was blown away the voice and vibe of TJ. “I came across the TJ demo tapes back in 2012 when I secured the exclusive license to the whole Strata Records catalog,” explains Amir who plans an imminent release of the four tracks on 10” vinyl in conjunction with BBE Records. “My first response to hearing the demo was WOW! Frankly, the sound quality was not good but the soul and passion of the music was unbelievable. I immediately thought about a young Shuggie Otis when hearing the songs.” As with the rediscovery of Shuggie Otis’ ‘Inspiration Information’, by the likes of Gilles Peterson back in the 90’s, there are always questions to be asked. With Shuggie Otis there was lineage plus the image of a hip young guy with a big ‘Fro and acoustic guitar. Two decades on he’d simply dropped off the radar. What happened? With TJ there’s only the tape and says Amir, “There was no info on the master just the name TJ. I don’t know when the TJ was recorded at all. The strata catalog is from 73-75 and it’s one of many recordings that were recorded but never released. I sat on the music for three years because I couldn’t afford to clean it up and re-master it properly until now.“ “As the Strata curator, I felt that this recording def fits in with what the Strata catalog is about. The soul and passion of the lyrics are heartfelt. As you can hear, most of the songs are about love. The raw form of just him, a guitar with vocal layers is so rough but it def represents the grittiness of the sound of Strata. I think the TJ represents what the Strata mottos were about: ‘The Sound of Detroit’ and ‘All Musics For All Peoples’. What makes me want to release this in its raw and rough form is that the genius of this recording cannot be denied. I hope that TJ somehow hears that the recording is out. I would love to give full credit to him and the musicians.”

In 2016 Amir Abdullah and 180 Proof Records continue to dig deeper. Tune in and join in on the search for TJ. For Fans of: Shuggie Otis, Bill Withers, Sugarman, Devendra Barnhart Key Selling Points: • A mystery tape in the Strata Records archive never previously released • When Amir who curates the Strata re-issues played TJ to Gilles Peterson , his response was simply 'that’s too good not to release' • Limited vinyl pressing • full press & radio campaign

Loch Lomond
STREET DATE: 9/02/2016
Pens From Spain [LP] ALBUM DESCRIPTION Here we are today to talk about Pens From Spain, the brand new record from Loch Lomond. The elements we’ve come to love from the Portland band are all there, like dear old friends: engaging vocal harmonies, thoughtfully multilayered arrangements, fingerpicked guitar, chimes, bells. This time, however, drum machines and synths are back in the mix after a decade in hibernation. The title track of the same name begins with intimately paired classical guitar and bandleader Ritchie Young’s understated vocal. The barroom style choir emerges from the distance and the song veers into unexpected territory: a vintage drum machine beat drops and dubby organs give way to discofall strings. The song ducks deftly between genres, nimblefooted and sure, and it’s clear that a new sense of self has emerged for Loch Lomond. The album took shape in fits and starts. Most came into being at Jesse Donaldson’s home studio, with additional recording at Peter Broderick’s Sparkle Studio in Pacific City, OR. Some were arranged and mixed with Jengalike fastidiousness, others have an impulsiveness, still others, room to breathe. Throughout the album these characteristics keep a fascinating tension, creating a journey for the listener. Endowed with a powerful voice that seesaws from baritone to falsetto, Young is a study in contrasts: his slight frame belies a commanding vocal performance, and his deflecting persona doesn’t hint at the simultaneously offbeat, macabre and tender lyrics. He’s complemented by producer and guitarist Jesse Donaldson, vocalist Brooke Parrott, drummer Ji Tanzer (Swansea, Rebecca, Blue Cranes), keyboardist Rebecca Sanborn (Swansea, Blue Cranes), bassist Pete Bosack, multiinstrumentalist Julie Bosack, and trumpeter John Whaley (Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Run On Sentence). On stage, they bring nearly every note of the new album to life, and add new twists and flourishes to the extensive Loch Lomond back catalog. HIGHLIGHTS
• Tour dates in Summer 2016, opening for case/lang/ veirs • National PR campaign by Chris Hnat @ Grandstand Media • AAA/Non-com Radio Promotion • Loch Lomond performed four songs on the Grammy nominated soundtrack for Boxtrolls • “Wax & Wire” has been a break-out song for the Loch Lomond, in YouTube video that has been watched 38 million times.

Tim Burgess and Peter Gordon have announced details of a new album, ‘Same Language, Different Worlds’ set to be released through Burgess’ own label O Genesis on 2nd September 2016. The pair will also embark on a short UK tour starting on 1st September, and including an appearance at Festival No.6 on 3rd, before they play London’s Kamio Club (formerly Red Gallery) on 6th September. The Charlatans frontman originally met New Yorker Peter Gordon in 2012 and they decided then on a music collaboration. Burgess had been a long time fan of Gordon’s work with Arthur Russell and The Love Of Life Orchestra. The album was produced by Gordon in New York and features many of his and Tim’s previous collaborators: Ernie Brooks who played with Arthur Russell on the first Modern Lovers album, trombone player Peter Zummo, conga player Mustafa Ahmed and Nik Void from Factory Floor. "What I love about working with Peter is that in the late 70s with Peter Zummo and Arthur Russell and all the New York cats at The Kitchen, they were all making futuristic records," Burgess enthuses. "Now Peter in his mid-60s is still looking to do that. It's the world that I want to be in."

The album will be released through Tim’s own label, O Genesis. Tim Book Two: Vinyl Adventures from Istanbul To San Francisco follows a road trip undertaken by Tim Burgess tracking down records recommended by the likes of Ian Rankin, Iggy Pop and Kim Gordon- it's a celebration of vinyl and those that collect it as well as those that sell it. The compilation, ‘Vinyl Adventures from Istanbul to San Francisco’, is recommendations of the great and the good in life from The Clash chosen by one of The Vaccines to Willie Nelson picked by one of The Clash. No rules. Love sit comfortably beside Joy Division, Isao Tomita next to Duane Eddy. And it’s unlikely you’ll find an album with music by Fad Gadget, Tchaikovsky and Allen Ginsberg. Pliant, jazz inflected techno meets mutated off-beat breaks and alien electro from New Yorker and co-founder of Exotic Dance Records Jiovanni Nadal aka J. Albert. This is gritty urban techno reflecting on street life in Gotham City. On the A side we got the squealing and hissing grind of "Bloo N Red" followed by the sublime and broken house of "Ting Waan"; absolutely loved this bittersweet and emotive piece. On the flip "Dyslexia" has that haunting and dusty attic jam style, much like fellow NYC hero Patricia and then "Earring"; equally nailing that particular aesthetic too but with more of an industrial edge with its textured and metallic rhythms doing a fine job.
Synthesizer and drum machine obsessive Xosar (AKA producer Sheela Rahman) has enjoyed a productive few years, building a formidable reputation via releases on Rush Hour, L.I.E.S and Creme Organization. Here she delivers her first full-length for Opal Tapes' occasional vinyl offshoot, Black Opal. It's perhaps a little less colourful and synthesizer-heavy than previous excursions, instead focusing on dark, fuzzy, heavily percussive takes on acid house and techno. There are fascinating interludes - see the wonky industrial IDM of "Prophylaxis" and the beatless synth madness of "Gnome Circle" - but it's the more floor-friendly excursions like “The Pit” and “Watching Waiting Wanting” (and most profoundly the bleak and intense "Hades Gates") that really stand out.

SO(U)LEN)SKIN(NER) is the second solo LP Katt Hernandez has released. After 13 years as a veteran of the variated wonderments of the experimental music scenes of the east coast, Katt moved to Sweden. She became a producer at the legendary Fylkingen artspace, started making electro-acoustic music alongside her long beloved violin at EMS and the Royal Music Academy alike, and is playing all about Sweden and further with a burgeoning tumult of new and fantastic musicians. Eight years after her first record Katt’s violin world, full of micro-tonalities, spectral harmonics, invisible artifacts and secret ululating tales of the impossible, has morphed in her new home.
! ! 6 01
This is a record for Stockholm, recorded at EMS with a microphone only three examples were ever made of. The title is the simultaneous two languages which now twine together: ”Lent skiner solen på själens skinn / The sun shines down softly on the skin of the soul.” The improvisations, done entirely on the acoustic violin and in single takes, build upon listening to the moving of huge granite mountains for the building of things on Stockholms stone terrain, and the stones and machines in all the cities waterways found with hydrophones- on the songs of the new birds here, and the trains, and the hours the sun came forth until midnight and disappeared over a hundred years of rising and setting. It is for the endlessly disappearing and re-emerging versions of the city and the people who live in those tides, and many more secret tales.

SALES TEXT From Sufi chants and Shamanic drums to Brian Wilson’s attempts to write a “teenage hymn to God” and the mass communion of raves, music, magic and mysticism are inextricably bound together. That connection, the divine spark that breathes life into chords, notes and melodies and both transports and transforms the listener is at the heart of The Living Gods of Haiti’s music, a powerful fusion of esoteric imagery and ethereal electronic music.
Originally conceived as a spoken word project by singer, poet and visual artist Rebekah Dobbins, the word became flesh when Rebekah, then working in LA, reached out to former collaborator, Parisian producer Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague, Yasmine Hamdan). Communicating by email the two began to explore the new world Rebekah had sketched out, not writing songs at first but just piecing together textures, sounds and ideas, building a new sonic universe from these disparate elements. Reinterpretations include ‘Roads’ by Portishead, ‘Overcome’ by Tricky, ‘No Justice’ by Smith & Mighty, ‘Safe From Harm’ by Massive Attack and ‘All Is Full Of Love’ by Bjork. As with Nouvelle Vague, they are sung by a selection of talented young French singers, including Yasmine Hamdan who featured on the soundtrack for Jim Jamusch’s film ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’
Hans Chew UNKNOWN SIRE LP-DBZ-006 // CD-DBZ-006 Street Date: September 2, 2016
Hans Chew's music explores the existential. Beginning with 2010’s Tennessee & Other Stories... and continuing on 2014's Life & Love, his albums have revolved around finding meaning in life, death, love and rebirth. Now on his latest release Chew drives deeper at the essence of the matter: From where does the human soul emerge? From what obscurity arises the urge to create? In Sailing To Byzantium, W.B. Yeats describes the human heart: “sick with desire, and fastened to a dying animal, it knows not what it is…”. Or in Hans Chew's words on this his third album: The human animal is of unknown sire. As the themes Chew explores on Unknown Sire are expanded, so is the material. The familiar sonic territory of opening track "Easy Money" with its boogie piano and laid back Tulsa groove recedes quickly from view, its cynical lyric serving almost as notice that these are merely headwaters. The album shifts tones into the erstwhile title track "Tell Me", whereupon its journey begins in earnest: "What are you afraid of? Is it everything unknown, is it what you're made of?" Not unusually, Chew's writing here spans multiple genres, but the recordings mark the first appearance of synthesizers in his work, and tracks like "Early Light Waltz", "No Existe", and "The Sign" blur the lines between psych-rock, folk, electro and R&B, while also melding concepts of the beginning of time, the passing of time, the illusion of time, and the end of times. Unknown Sire was recorded by long-time Chew collaborator Jason Meagher at Black Dirt Studio, who plays multiple instruments on the album, and was mixed by Jeff Ziegler at Uniform Recordings. Perhaps best known for his keyboard work with artists such as Steve Gunn, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Jack Rose, Hans Chew has established himself as a versatile singer, songwriter, and performer in his own right. A native Tennessean, Chew’s style has been described in wide fashion, with comparisons to artists like James Booker, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Feat, Nirvana, Little Richard, and Leon Russell. 2010’s Tennessee & Other Stories... received four stars from Rolling Stone and was heralded by Uncut as one of the top 25 albums of the year. 2014 saw the release of Chew’s second LP, Life & Love, which Classic Rock magazine called “an excellent album, a further development of the sound Chew revealed on his debut...”, while Popmatters proclaimed the record “Dixie-fried rock ’n’ roll awesomeness...a barn burning smoker of a record that’s simply irresistible.” Also a dynamic live performer, iTunes’s Music Editor sums it up: “Hans Chew cranks up the tempo and the manic rock ’n’ roll performance until it feels like you’ve landed in the early ‘70s, when Derek & The Dominos were piecing together Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and The Rolling Stones were waiting around Nellcote to record the bits and pieces of Exile on Main St.”.

STEARICA’s Davide Compagnoni has been developing his electrifying new solo project KHOMPA: an adventurous mix of drumming, electronics and cutting edge drum triggering technology. A unique audiovisual live act whose main elements are: a drummer, a conventional drum kit, 4 drum triggers, a laptop and a step sequencer. Each drum controls a virtual musical instrument (synthesizers, samplers, etc.) that allows Davide to perform real melodies/electronic orchestration without the use of any backing track, loops or click track. Whilst predominantly an electronic record the album is laced with a challenging punk attitude and flirts with the avant-garde, using experimental rhythms and atmospherics. Tracks such as ‘Nettle Empire’, combine complex rhythms with mellifluous and harmonious synth based melodies. It’s a clear display of technical prowess, without losing its intricate and well-formed composition and song structuring. Other tracks such as ‘The Shape’ and ‘Louder’ lean more towards the heavier side, sonically sitting somewhere in between the harsh electronic noise of early-HEALTH and Davide’s output with STEARICA. Elsewhere, the record continues to evolve with tracks such as ‘Upside-Down World’ moving into an altogether more progressive sound combining ambient and melancholic instrumentation . Limited edition pressing of 500 180 g vinyl - free album CD inside.

LP ltd blue vinyl. Peace or Love is a collection of songs stemming from wild and free bedroom fourtrack cassette recordings and personal hard drive sample raiding, with contributions from various musical friends in Perth, Western Australia and SF/LA, California. West draws inspiration from freethinking artists of the past and present on this polyphonic platter, from soft indie strumming and free soundscapes, to disco and soul-pop. West currently plays in the guitar pop band Rat Columns, synth -pop project Liberation and post-punk trio Rank/Xerox. If you were feeling particularly grand, you could say that David West has created his own ecology, or you could just say he’s a very busy man. This is music from the margins that deserves a place in the middle of anyone's heart. 1. Untitled 2. Peace or Love 3. Do You Miss Me Around 4. Dream on Dreamer 5. Darkness in My Heart 6. At Pease 7. Re-Issue of the third album, ‘One Foot In Front of The Other’ which was initially available via Universal in 2014. ‘One Foot In Front of the Other’ still covers the musical styles her fans will be accustomed to, and like her previous two albums, continues to defy labels, effortlessly moving between moments of jazz, opera, folk and cabaret. ‘The songs are very personal. There are some things I’m singing about here I wouldn’t talk about to my closest friends, which I know is sounds silly, as I’m telling everyone...’ 1 Sur La Lune (... 1960 was the year that Instrumentals hit the charts in a big way with guitar or sax-led rockers and slinky organ groovers. Here are the discs that teenagers wanted to hear in the juke joints: exciting, uptempo stompers with catchy, melodic riffs, along with slow, soulful, down home blues. This compilation throws the spotlight on instrumentals by artists more widely associated with vocals, along with more obscure artists who may only have had one or two releases to their name. 1.
