While many artists have come and gone, why have Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings only continued to grow steadily in popularit y around the world? How can they continue to sell-out huge theaters, headline festivals, and sell hundreds of thousands of records year after year with neither major label support nor a single radio hit? The reason is simple: There is no other band around today that plays with the rhythm, feeling, or explosive power of the Dap-Kings, and there is no other singer that can match the energy and honest soul of Sharon Jones. The culmination of these soulful attributes has never been so meticulously manifested as on their latest waxen treasure, Give The People What They Want. It ’s all here, from ‘Retreat ’, the lushly orchestrated barnstormer, to the feel-good cruiser ‘We Get Along’, and the float y balladr y of ‘Slow Down Love’. Give The People What They Want is an exercise in Soul Music of the highest order, but more than that, it ’s a document of what happens when you fill a studio with some of the finest musicians and songwriters in the world and let the tape roll. The Baddest Band In All The Land are at the TOP of their game.

Railroad Earth’s seventh album is their most evocative and ambitious set to date. At once melancholic and joyous, often deep, yet always accessible, the album captures the band as they are now; twelve years in, wiser and worn and pondering how this life affects those around them. Every song has a story and every story has its meaning. Last of the Outlaws began its journey at a remote private studio in rural Western New Jersey. Band member John Skehan happened upon it while looking at a piano for sale and was immediately taken by the spacious studio built into a beautiful private home in the woods. A few calls and visits later and Railroad Earth had become the first outside artist to set up camp and lock out the space for an extended period. With their gear in place, they hit record and began playing and exploring new sonic palettes. Songwriter Todd Sheaffer infused the process with a healthy dose of new songs that set the tone and direction for what followed. And what followed was an album filled with stories of birth, death, heartache, joy, sadness, redemption, loss of our heroes, and even a lesson or two from old ghosts straight from the hangman’s noose. A band of multi-instrumentalists, Railroad Earth pushed the boundaries on Last of the Outlaws, introducing string sections, horn sections, acoustic piano, electric guitars, penny whistle and more to their core sound, with every note played by the six band members. They even took their first foray into long-form music with, “All That’s Dead May Live Again / Face With A Hole,” an ambitious twenty-one minute Progressive-Folk masterpiece with seven movements and lyrics that grapple the human condition, making sense out of random acts of violence in society and the responsibility to find our way back to our hopeful nature. Other standout tracks, like album opener “Chasin’ a Rainbow,” which looks back at the journey that brought them here, “Monkey,” about dealing with personal demons, the rollicking and self-explanatory, “One More Night on the Road,” and the lonesome title track, “The Last of the Outlaws,” about holding on to a life that’s no longer there, may help to mark this as Railroad Earth’s most genuine studio effort yet.
HIGHLIGHTS: • Publicity to be handled by Good Cop PR • Radio Promotion: Bob Laul at Serious Bob Promotion & Jeff Appleton at Marathon Entertainment • First Railroad Earth studio album in three years • Much more to come!

Lee Bannon is an experimental hip-hop producer from Sacramento, California. His work has spread along the vast hip hop scene, having produced Joey Bada$$, AbSoul, Souls of Mischief and others. In addition, Bannon has evolved his sound into traces of trance, jungle, and deep house music and establishing himself as one of the few producers able to navigate across all soundscapes. After a series of collaborations and releases he delivered the Fantastic Plastic album in 2012 and earlier that year premiered his Caligula Theme Music with Spin Magazine. Bannon toured with Joey Bada$$ in 2012 and appeared on Jimmy Fallon alongside The Roots performing Joey's hit single "Waves". He produced the B side to that single titled "Enter The Void" with Ab-Soul. In addition to the Bada$$/ Lil B diss track "Don't Quit Your Day Job", he also produced a few songs on the Pro era compilation Peep the The aPROcalypse and had a heavy presence on Joey's follow up project Summer Knights. In February 2013, he released a free 10-track project and follow-up to his Caligula Theme Music EP titled Caligula Theme Music 2.7.5 and a few months later, the calmer free EP Never/mind/the/darkness/of/it...Later that summer, the hard core jungle-influenced track "NW/WB" took the internet by storm and listed him on Spin Magazine's top 5 artist to watch that month. Freshly signed to UK label Ninja Tune, Bannon is ready to share his official debut album 'Alternate / Endings' at the end of 2013. “Burial’s ‘Rival Dealer’ is a Christmas story about love, confusion and sexuality, and the best thing he’s made since ‘Untrue’. Burial might have started off sounding like nobody else, but since his breakthrough record, 2008’s ‘Untrue’, he’s not exactly taken risks. Sure, the tracks got longer and more soundtracky, he worked with Massive Attack, and ‘Street Halo’ was a bit ravey, but generally Burial’s spent his post-‘Untrue’ years feeding cat-nip to kittens and watching them start Christmas number one campaigns. Which is why it’s so welcome that ‘Rival Dealer’ not only sounds like a Christmas number one, but will surely be Burial’s most divisive record to date. It’s early days, but [it] might well go down as Burial’s best – it’s certainly his most impressive since ‘Untrue’. If it also represents a “coming out” of sorts for him – whether that’s sexually, or simply by ushering in a new stage of his music – then all the better. Merry Christmas. Let’s get this thing to number one.” [ FACT Magazine review extract : full text at http://www.factmag.com/2013/12/11/burials-rival-dealer-is-a-christmasstory-about-love-confusion-and-sexuality-and-is-the-best-thing-hes-made-since-untrue/ ]

Descriptive Text "I wanted to eclipse what NAPALM DEATH had done for me at that point. Not to make From Enslavement to Obliteration, but to make the record they would have made after. That was Ulterior for me." Jon Chang doesn't set small goals. From day one, he was determined to make DISCORDANCE AXIS more than another pack of weekend warrior grinders content with emulating their favorite records. He understood the songwriting and performing prowess lurking in collaborators drummer Dave Witte and Rob Marton and he brought it out by every dictatorial means necessary. The result was 1995's Ulterior, DISCORDANCE AXIS' first full length album. It was an album that maybe owed too obvious a debt to their influences, particularly the NAPALM DEATH records Chang was determined to top, but Ulterior hinted at the musical and lyrical themes that DISCORDANCE AXIS would perfect on their subsequent two albums, Jouhou and apotheosis The Inalienable Dreamless. DISCORDANCE AXIS were finding their footing with Ulterior, repurposing grindcore's tropes and updating its lexicon to fit the 21st Century. Band visionary Chang jolted grindcore's stale infatuation with the politics of opposition with his fascination for science fiction and manga. DISCORDANCE AXIS would also make Witte's bones as the most in-demand drummer of the last two decades as he blasted and thrashed his way into fastest man alive contention. But the secret weapon in DISCORDANCE AXIS' arsenal has always been Marton. Unlike his more gregarious bandmates, Marton just quietly went about his business of redefining grindcore guitar playing. Rather than speeding up '80s hardcore, Marton wrote riffs that actually stood up on their own. His technically adept performance owes as much to jazz and VOIVOD as it does Scum and Horrified. DISCORDANCE AXIS distinguished themselves from the grindcore pack by having actual songs. Ulterior hinted at his prodigious talent, but Marton would stake his case for grind guitar godhood on the strength of Jouhou and The Inalienable Dreamless. - Andrew Childers

Caribbean Soul & Calypso Crossover 1969 - 1979 Strut presents the first ever vinyl edition of CALYPSOUL 70, revisiting the 1970s period when pan bands, Calypsonians and local island combos from across the Caribbean were fusing their indigenous sounds with US R'n'B and funk, echoing the strong social messages of the US black American Civil Rights leaders and, in the case of several islands, celebrating independence. It was a time in which colonial rule continued to recede and new island identities were being forged. Soul, jazz and the latin sound had been constants across the Caribbean during the ‘60s- now disco and soul were infused with calypso or Afro-centric roots reggae, the carnival sound was injected with black power sensibilities, heavy funk was common currency and local sounds were on the rise. Compiler Duncan Brooker gives us a snapshot of the many and varied island sounds from the period, bringing together a killer selection of impossibly rare tracks from cult labels like Trex and Wirl alongside private band pressings. Tracks range from the heavy tropical funk of The Revolution Of St Vincent and Magic Circle Express and big band street march blasts by The Hondells and Clarence Curvan to hard, percussive message music from Lancelot Layne and a super-funky Gwen McCrae steel pan cover by Amral’s Trinidad Cavaliers Steel Orchestra. Only ever available on CD and digital formats on its original release in 2008, TRACKLISTING CALYPSOUL 70 now receives a well overdue vinyl issue for the first time. The 2LP gatefold package includes the full original CD version as an insert, A1. The Revolution Of St. Vincent – The Little You Say detailed sleeve notes by Francis Gooding and rare photos and album artwork. A2. St. Maarten’s The Rolling Tones – It’s A Feeling A3. ORLANDO JULIUS & HIS MODERN ACES

BACK IN PRINT – A BONA FIDE ‘60s AFRO-SOUL CLASSIC! ‘Super Afro Soul’ was a true groundbreaker when it first surfaced in Nigeria in 1966 as a 10“ album, a confident and effortless union of highlife, jazz and R&B, the music of Nigerian independence fused with the soundtrack to Afro-America’s struggle for civil rights. It was Julius’ debut long player, following a spell with Eddy Okonta’s Top Aces playing highlife, ballroom styles and jazz. “When I started my own music, I decided to add the sounds,” remembers OJ. “I was listening to Coltrane, Otis Redding, Smokey Robinson. I brought in a bit of that. The African rhythms, kokoma rhythms are the backbone and soul, jazz, even calypso, came together with it to make ‘Super Afro Soul’. Julius had formed the Modern Aces in July 1964 with musicians including drummer Akanbi Moses, trumpeter Eddy Fayehun and guest guitarist, Joni Haastrup, later of Monomono. “Even before I was thinking of recording with the Modern Aces, we rehearsed at home, we played live in Ibadan, we didn’t stop. By mixing the R&B and soul with the African rhythms, I think it inspired a lot of musicians in Lagos.” Those musicians included Fela Kuti, a regular at OJ’s Ibadan residency, who began creating his own hybrid of Afro and jazz with his early Koola Lobitos band. Pre-‘Super Afro Soul’, OJ and The Modern Aces had enjoyed success with a string of singles for Phillips - their first record, ‘Jagua Nana’, released in October ‘65, became an instant hit and catapulted the little known band into the Lagos limelight. Further hits followed – ‘Topless’ (briefly earning Orlando the nickname The Topless Man”), ‘Ololufe’ and ‘Ijo Soul’, an Afro cousin of James Brown’s ‘I Got You (I Feel Good)’. The records were made at Phillips’ studio, a twotrack set up. “If we didn’t do it right in one take, we had to do it again. That’s how ‘Super Afro Soul’ was made.” Strut present a brand new repress of this classic album along with a handful of OJ’s earlier Modern Aces single as bonus tracks. This new vinyl-only edition comes with the full CD version and brand new liner notes featuring an extended interview with Orlando Julius by Strut’s Quinton Scott.
KEY POINTS - One time limited pressing of 400 - Definitive edition of classic 1960s Afro soul original album - Hugely influential on the 1970s Lagos scene from Fela Kuti to Segun Bucknor - New reissue features CD version of album + new liner notes featuring Orlando Julius interview - Orlando Julius’ profile growing as he begins touring again. Alongside the Heliocentrics, he will release a new studio album in 2014 - Strong addition to Strut’s world music range to accompany Nigeria 70, Next Stop Soweto, Sofrito and Calypsoul 70 albums

A: MUIZENBERG MUIZENBERG (SEIJI REMIX) B: MUIZENBERG (THE 2 BEARS REMIX)
Taken from their critically acclaimed and eponymous debut, the track exhudes southern hemisphere sunshine with a warm guitar figure sending a gentle bounce through the track. Lead singer John delivers a gentle falsetto before the track drops into a scuffy bass coda.
!
Beatmaker extraodinaire Seiji turns a gentle piano line that you barely notice in the original into the centrepiece of his mix, running rhythmic, crunchy kicks and snares alongside bubbling filtered effects.
!
On the flip The 2 Bears create a thing of beauty. A slow, rippling mix that's absorbed all the sunshine of the original, turning it inside-out and building the track up gently over a slow house beat, before dropping in gentle repeated vocals over the epic nine minute timespan.

louis logic splashed onto the indie rap scene "party foul" style in 1999 with the drinker's anthem "Factotum". He spawned a laundry list of collaborations with artists like Jedi Mind Tricks, MF DOOM, Malik B of the Roots, and even pop rapper Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes. His 2003 debut Sin-A-Matic cemented him in listeners' minds as a standard for dark romantic comedy and shock rap. Louis' taste for musical exploration grew with the release his most mature record to date, Misery Loves Comedy (2006), on which he officially partnered with longtime producer J.J. Brown. It was then that Louis executed his most mysterious and adventurous move yet, retreating into monastic seclusion to study voice, piano and music theory. When he emerged, it was touting a new Copenhagen, Denmark based live Surf/Hip-Hop/Balkan fusion band, Spork Kills, which he debuted with the Beaches Love US EP (2009) featuring the video that garnered his first MTV exposure, "Night of the Hip 'N Dead". He continued to tour worldwide throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, cultivating a theatrical live show that managed to amalgamate rapping, singing, piano playing and even stand up comedy. After 7 years of radio silence, music study, extensive touring and artistic exploration, Louis will follow up his 2006 record with his first self-produced album on progressive indie label Fake Four Inc. Titled "Look On The Blight Side", it's a rap record in an indie-pop, singer/songwriter style, completely sample free, with original arrangements written and played by Louis. This dark collection of songs gives fans a revealing look into his long journey of self discovery. Louis takes to the road beginning in the summer of 2013 to start sharing songs from the new album live in preparation for his November release.

Roman Polanski's 1967 film Dance of the Vampires (as it was originally called, but more widely known by its re-named title The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are In My Neck) is a camp horror cult classic. Though it was marketed at the time as a 'farce', this was overlooking the fact that this film is fantastically eerie. The major part played by the soundtrack in giving it this effect cannot be under-stated, and the cold-as-snow production did much to enhance the bleak wintery cinematography. Polish jazz legend Krzysztof Komeda (1931-1969) provided the mesmeric score, as he did for a run of Polanki's films from this period, namely Knife in the Water, Rosemary's Baby, and Cul-de-Sac. These Polanski scores are of course his most known, but Komeda (also a fully qualified doctor) scored over 40 other lesser known soundtracks which deserve attention (eg Le Départ), as well as being responsible for the Komeda Quintet album Astigmatic, a jazz masterpiece. His untimely death before he even hit 40 has robbed us of god-knows-what. Whilst this particular soundtrack is not typical Komeda and arguably one of his less fluid 'records' when taken out of context from the film it augmented, it is nevertheless the work of a genius and more than worthy of its first ever vinyl release. How we got there first in 2013 we'll never understand. If those sinister choirs or skulking bass motifs fail to give you the chill we declare thee as undead as Count von Krolock himself!

Hot on the heels of her praised album Island Fire (released last summer), April 16th 2013 is the release date of her next project Down Baby Down, an altogether different prospect. Island Fire was praised for its grand modus operandi, where she took her sideways blues and reverberating pop-noir to dizzying new sonic and orchestral heights. It included a collaboration with Sparks, won her an appearance on Top of the Pops, and a new occasional backing band in the shape of the 65 member-strong Filmorchester Babelsberg. Gemma had already recorded Down Baby Down by the time Island Fire was released, but its more sinister and haunting bent is probably less fitting for a summertime unveiling. Recorded in a few days at Candy Bomber (ensconced in the former CIA headquarters wing of Berlin’s intimidating Tempelhof Airport), with a handful of musicians namely Thomas Wydler (of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) on drums, Rory More on organ, and Wilhelm Stegmeier on bass, it is 30 minutes of largely instrumental compositions coated with choral enhancement and ominous yet beautiful vocal motifs. Gemma herself takes care of all vocal, guitar, piano, clavioline, glockenspiel, melodica and dulcimer duties. For want of a better description, Gemma calls them “fantasy soundtracks”, as the music escapes the trappings or the expectations of the pop or rock song. “It’s probably my most honest and satisfyingly free work to date”, she says. She makes no secret of her love of composers such as Komeda (of Roman Polanski soundtracks fame), Morricone, John Barry, or Jack Nitzsche (see Tarantino’s Death Proof) , and this collection of compositions reveals Gemma’s more darkly musical imaginings. They unfold on their own pictorial journey through deserts, mountains and ghettos, lithely sinking through jazz-noir, gothic folk, fucked-up rock’n’roll, and out into deathly space. From the ethereal landscape of The Low Rising to the desolate horror of No Star, Down Baby Down is all at once soothing, fragile, sweeping, intense, twisted, sexual, and bad-ass. Released on vinyl (with CD included) and download, it is the second release on Bronze Rat’s Seriés Aphōnos, a new music library which focuses on left-of-centre musical meanderings, soundtracks, and strange treasures from hidden corners. Elisabeth Esselink, aka Solex, has always done things her own way. The Dutch sorceress of sound reset the boundaries by blowing them clean away with albums like Pick-Up (released in 1999 on Matador Records) which , 14 years on, is still name-checked by the likes of Annie Clark aka St Vincent, who calls it a huge inspiration. She continues to be beyond comparison in her approach to amalgamating samples, live instruments and her own vocals, creating an incredibly unique pop and electronica. In 2010 she created a masterpiece in the shape of Amsterdam Throwdown, King Street Showdown!, which was a supernova of genre-bending delights in a brainiac’s dance party, and gave collaborators Jon Spencer (Blues Explosion) and his wife Cristina Martinez (Boss Hog) a funk soul playground through which they could run free. What you have here is, well, nothing like the above. This truly unique and special album is the soundtrack to the documentary film of the same name. During the course of the summer of 2008, Elisabeth (and her partner in sound, Bart van Poppel) trekked the numerous rivers, lakes and waterways covering the twelve provinces of the Netherlands by an old motorboat. In each province a different cast of musicians was invited to climb aboard and purely a l'improviste, create a homage to the Dutch landscape. On returning to her home base in Amsterdam, Esselink took the resulting material full of noises, moods, voices and rhythms back to her studio where she set about processing the recordings into twelve separate sound-image compositions, one for each province. Solex Ahoy, or better still, The Sound Map of the Netherlands is a reflection of the perilous route. A homage to the Dutch waterways. Solex Ahoy! The Sound Map of the Netherlands is released on super-limited vinyl (with CD & DVD included) and download, it is the first release on Bronze Rat’s Seriés Aphōnos, a new music library which focuses on left-of-centre musical meanderings, soundtracks, and strange treasures from hidden corners. (Also forthcoming on Seriés Aphōnos: Gemma Ray, Tanger Trio, and Hot Planet).

An original album of resplendent beauty by some of Berlin’s most prized and sought musicians, this piano-led album of cinema noir-esque moods mixed with modern classical & jazz is a rare treat. Tanger Trio is the brainchild of Hansjoern Brandenburg, who imagined escaping the cold gray Berlin winter on musical flights of fancy to an Art Deco bar in Tanger. Brandenburg earned his stripes as musical director to Tom Waits’, William S. Burroughs’ and Bob Wilson’s production The Black Rider, going on to arrange works for Kronos Quartet and Tiger Lillies, and called upon by Bob Wilson regularly to supervise the music of his theatre productions. A regular fixture of Berliner Ensemble, his recent work includes the arrangements and supervision of CocoRosie’s Peter Pan production in Berlin. His right hand man in the Trio, on drums and percussion, is Thomas Wydler, the longest serving member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds after Cave himself, and a driving creative force in their most recent career-defining Push The Sky Away record. A long-standing Berliner since the early 80’s, Wydler defines the city’s history of artistic musical freedom, and has several solo albums and film music soundtracks under his belt. After the sudden death of original bass-player Sirone Jones, an American jazz legend who played with everyone from Mingus to Gil Evans to Sun Ra, and who appears on 2 of the albums tracks, the Trio was completed by member Andreas Henze, who lists Berliner Ensemble, Rufus Wainwright and Herbert Groenemeyer amongst his employers. Ensemble Mondaine comprises of woodwind, strings and voice and is made up of celebrated musicians from Greece, Egypt, Germany and France. The European/Mediterranean flavour they add to the trio is the real thing. Impeccable credentials aside, this album is a cinematic aural delight. Sit back. 8 CD box-set featuring all six commercially released solo albums by Giant Sand frontman HOWE GELB. Each album has bonus tracks and alternative takes and also included is the Sno Angel Winging It live CD and a selection of piano pieces entitled Some Piano. The box includes liner notes from Howe, with an introduction from Sylvie Simmons, presented in a 48page bound booklet. The solo albums came about as an afterthought", Howe explains, "loving better the notion of hiding inside a band like Giant Sand for the rest of my life. When life demanded something else, then they began to happen." At first severely home-made and lo-fi with "Hisser" during the days when Rainer was critically ill. Followed by the depressing "Confluence" when everything turned to shit in the late 90s. And back up again and running fine with "The Listener". That path would then lead to the sizzling season with a full gospel choir attached in Ottawa. Next would come the most gratifying time spent surrounded with guitars in discovering the city of Cordoba, and recording "Alegrias", which attracted one of Spain's most famous guitarists into the session, maestro Raimundo Amador.

Constraining the psychedelic wanderings of their previous recordings, there is a conscious effort to compose their new material within a more orthodox structure. All tracks were recorded to ensure the vitality of their live show was captured on each take. It’s a startling prospect, one that harnesses the spirit of the critically acclaimed Go Easy and propels it into one of the most exciting experimental pop albums of recent years. 1. LOU GRAMM - LONG HARD LOOK CANDY225 5055300378613 Released in 1989, this was the second solo album from the “voice of Foreigner”. This time, the record company looked to slightly contemporise his sound by bringing in producer Peter Wolf. The results were spectacular, Gramm crafting an album of melodic rock that took as much from Foreigner as it did from traditional blues. Surrounding himself with names including Bruce Turgon and Nils Lofgren and his brother Ben Gramm on drums Angel With A Dirty Face; Just Between You & Me; Broken Dreams; True Blue Love; I’ll Come Running; Hangin’ On My Hip; Warmest Rising Sun; Day One; I’ll Know When It’s Over; Tin Soldier
REO SPEEDWAGON - WHEELS ARE TURNIN’ CANDY209 5055300377746 ‘Wheels Are Turning’, originally issued in 1984, was an unqualified success, going platinum several times over and producing two bonafide hit singles in ‘One Lonely Knight’ and the blockbusting number one, ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’. It was also a record that truly married the band’s historical hard rock sensibilities with their penchant for writing catchy melodic pop rock propelled by Kevin Cronin’s unique vocals and Gary Richrath’s searing lead guitar playing. A truly satisfying record of both power and passion. I Do’ Wanna Know; One Lonely Night; Thru The Window; Rock n’ Roll Star; Live Every Moment; Can’t Fight This Feeling; Gotta Feel More; Break His Spell; Wheels Are Turnin’
REO SPEEDWAGON - GOOD TROUBLE CANDY208 5055300377739 Following up ‘Hi Infidelity’ was never going to be easy but the band stepped up to the plate with 1982’s ‘Good Trouble’ - another fine slice of American Midwest hard rock. ‘Keep The Fire Burnin’, ‘I’ll Follow You’, ‘Stillness Of The Night’ and the title track easily pick up were the band had left off, kicking and punching their way back to the top of the charts and our hearts. A firm foundation for even more success next time around. Keep The Fire Burnin’; Sweet Time; Girl With The Heart Of Gold; Every Now & Then; I’ll Follow You; The Key; Back In My Heart Again; Let’s Be-Bop; Stillness Of The Night; Good Trouble
SHAKIN’ STREET - SHAKIN’ STREET CANDY219 5055300377814 Of French-American origin, Fabienne Shine’s musical aspirations were further enhanced by guitarist Eric Levi who was piecing together a band in Paris. Named after the MC5 song, they cut their debut album ‘Vampire Rock’ in 1978. Blue Öyster Cult svengali Sandy Pearlman. took the band under his wing, enlisted former Dictator Ross The Boss into the line-up and produced their self titled second album.. Issued in 1980, the album is a blistering example of red-hot guitar driven hard rock No Compromise; Solid As A Rock; No Time To Loose; Soul Dealer; Susie Wong; Every Man, Every Woman Is A Star; Generation X; So Fine; I Want To Box You
DIRTY LOOKS - COOL FROM THE WIRE CANDY230 5055300378583 Formed in San Francisco in the early 80s, the band, led by Danish born front man, guitarist and song writer Henrik Ostergaard. Atlantic Records teamed the band with seasoned British producer Max Norman (Ozzy Osbourne, Y&T, Coney Hatch) who crafted an exceptionally potent record focussing on catchy hooks, killer riffs, deadly rhythm and Ostergaard’s melodically inclined vocals. From 1988, the album drew comparisons to early AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and Kix the album is regarded as one of the most impressive rock releases of the late 80s Cool From The Wire; It’s Not The Way You Rock; Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You; Oh Ruby; Tokyo; Wastin’ My Time; Put A Spell On You; No Brains Child; Get It Right; It’s A Bitch; Get Off

Biog: January 1969, former Yardbirds members Keith Relf and Jim McCarty organised a new group devoted to experimentation between rock, folk, and classical forms. This quintet—Relf on guitar and vocals, McCarty on drums, plus bassist Louis Cennamo, pianist John Hawken, and Relf's sister Jane as an additional vocalist—released a pair of albums on Elektra (US) and Island (UK-ILPS 9112), the first one, titled simply Renaissance, being produced by fellow ex-Yardbird Paul Samwell-Smith.[1] The band had begun performing in May 1969, before recording had begun for the debut LP, mostly in the UK, but with occasional forays abroad, including festivals in Belgium (Amougies, October 1969) and France (Operation 666 at the Olympia in January 1970, and Le Bourget in March 1970, both in Paris). In February 1970, they embarked on a North American tour, but that month-long trek proved marginally successful, as, because of their Yardbirds credentials, they found themselves paired with bands such as The Kinks, and their new classically oriented direction did not always go down well with audiences. Beginning in the late spring of 1970, as touring began to grind on them, the original band gradually dissolved. Relf and McCarty decided to quit performing, and Cennamo joined Colosseum. Hawken organised a new line-up to fulfil contractual obligations and complete the band's second album, Illusion, which was left unfinished.
PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING—INFORM-EDUCATE-ENTERTAIN Taking in archive material from the BFI and Studio Canal along with classic American public information films the album sees the band weave samples from these films around live drums, guitar, banjo and electronics, creating an array of diverse tracks. What emerges is, by turns, thrilling, moving, funny and entertaining. “In their love of history, and their understanding of the dignity of the wartime generation, they remind me of British Sea Power, although Stereolab are closer sonically.” TEST CARD RECORDS DIGI CD TCRCDA01 - 5055300366771 - $13.99 G/F LP TCRVA01 - 5055300366788 - $22.99 GENRE : INDIE/ALTERNATIVE Album debuted in the UK album chart at #21. #2 in indie record store chart. #6 in Independent chart. !
