The album was recorded , co-produced by long-time collaborator John Goodmanson and band member Tom Bromley, during Euro 2016 in Fridao, Portugal. The album exists as an expression of the pent-up aggression we felt due to being inactive for so long, but it’s also a celebration of just getting to be a band, of getting to play music with our friends. Recently the band has been claimed as big influence on the so called “emo revival” with bands such as modern baseball and the hotelier testifying to their long time love of LOS CAMPESINOS !

RELEASE 2/24/2017

OVERVIEW Los Angeles’ FROTH are pleased to announce they have signed to Wichita Recordings and will release their third album OUTSIDE (BRIEFLY) on February 24, 2017. On the Thomas Dolas-produced OUTSIDE (BRIEFLY), FROTH have dialed back the noise of their previous albums to reveal delicately beautiful melodies, intricately arranged instrumentals and some of their most experimental songwriting to date. Formed in 2013 in Los Angeles, The band first garnered attention with their debut LP, Patterns. Originally intended as a small-run cassette release, the album quickly became an underground sensation in the Southern California music scene, catapulting the band to local fame and prompting a vinyl re-release in 2014.

2015 saw the release of the band’s sophomore album, Bleak. A more dynamic, adventurous effort, the record matches lush shoegaze soundscapes with driving krautrock beats, and earned the band press attention from outlets including NPR Music, Noisey, Vogue.com, and Stereogum, among others. FROTH toured extensively across the U.S. and Europe in support of the album, opening for acts such as The Drums, Tamaryn, Pond and Craft Spells.

ild Pink is one of those wonderfully rare bands that sounds instantly familiar, though drawing parallels to influences on its two previous EP has proven incredibly difficult. That sentiment remains on the New York City trio’s Self-Titled debut full-length as Wild Pink continues to chart its own unique course, growing impressively expansive in sound and more ambitious in songwriting.

TRACK LISTING

recorded by Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Pixies, Speedy Ortiz, Parquet Courts, Thurston Moore), the new LP moves at sublimely deliberate pace while Wild Pink further fleshes out the arrangements. Yet the songs never suffer, only growing more dynamic and propulsive while holding tight to the warm intimacy that has always made the band special. These are deeply personal stories about freedom (or lack thereof), about growing up, leaving youth behind while clinging to the deep-rooted scars that we hold sacred. Wild Pink has a remarkable way of transporting you to those moments in time where the smallest detail remains etched into your being. There is an intoxicating sincerity that echoes throughout the Self-Titled album and speaks to what makes the band so unique.

WESLEY STACE WESLEY STACE’S JOHN WESLEY HARDING RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 24, 2017

Born Wesley Stace, the man before you, as an adolescent, fell in love with ABBA and Bob Dylan in equal measure, but Bob won out and so he became a folk singer, who called himself John Wesley Harding, for the alt-rock generation. His songs were humorous and insightful and usually the smartest thing in any room they were played in. This persisted, through many record albums until Wesley Stace re-asserted himself as a fairly decorated author of fiction. In combative spirit, John Wesley Harding fought his way back out, made a bunch more records and became host of the Cabinet of Wonders series of events in NYC, where he played music and brought out a wild and ambitious array of authors and musicians and other performers, carving out a style of event that really ought to be the norm now for what you see when you go to a rock club, but it’s so cool that other people are scared to try it. Finally, Wesley Stace said, “No!,” slayed John Wesley Harding somehow, wrote more books, made records under his own name for the first time, co-wrote a bunch of brilliant songs with Eleanor Friedberger, and then came all this way, by land, by sea, by electronic device - via some recording sessions with The Jayhawks in Minneapolis - to entertain you, specifically. Helluva guy!

HIGHLIGHTS: • The second album under Wesley Stace’s (aka John Wesley Harding) birth name • The Jayhawks perform on every track on the album • Brad Paul managing radio promotion to AAA and Americana formats • US tour spring 2017, with select dates featuring The Jayhawks • Official video for “Better Tell No One Your Dreams,” premiering January 2017 TRACK LISTING: 1. In preparing for the first album of non-Hexadic Six Organs of Admittance music since 2012’s Ascent, Ben Chasny had a think about what he’d be saying in his own tongue for the first time in a half-decade. As ever, a head-full of ideas were driving him to think and speak music as a spirituality superimposed onto a reality, with the ghosts of both whispering at each other. In the end, what sits in our listening ears is the sound of communion. Burning the Threshold brings a wealth of Six Organs-styled lightness into one of his sweetest musical meditations yet. With a spacious acoustic soundstage, Burning the Threshold may actually more resemble 2011’s Asleep on the Floodplain. Or it may more resemble Compathia, or School of the Flower. All of this is speculative, comparative, unverifyable — but our sense of what is true tells us that nobody plays acoustic music quite like Six Organs of Admittance, and that furthermore, nothing sounds so much like Burning the Threshold as Burning the Threshold. Ben is in a particularly expansive mood this time around, singing and playing while thinking of birds in the morning, anarchy, Third Ear Band, Gaston Bachelard, The Gnostics, Ronnie Lane and/or The Faces, Deleuze, Aaron Cheak, Odysseus, This Heat, Takoma Records, St Eustace, Dark

Noontide and a HELL of a lot more than that, with all the thoughts affixed to a quiver of potent melodies launching forth and arcing out through dimensions, seeking infinite space. The space radiates out from the album’s first moment, with “Things As They Are,” a song examining the life of poet Wallace Stevens. Ben’s currently working on music for a theatrical work about Stevens’ life set to debut in Cleveland later in 2017. The empathetic waves generated by this song resonate throughout the album, giving a new dimension to the music of Six Organs of Admittance. Like so many other Six Organs records, Burning the Threshold was created mostly solo, but features the singing talents of Alex Nielsen, Haley Fohr and Damon and Naomi; the drumming of Chris Corsano; a guitar duet with Ryley Walker, and keys and mixing from Cooper Crain. With this new music, Ben Chasny has created a potent tonic for our times. The gentleness found here, balanced on top of his classical asceticism, provides much of what we need in 2017 and beyond: love, forgiveness, reality and an ever-wider view, with the understanding of our circular path in this lifetime. Looking at the world through clear eyes beneath a knitted brow, but with a laugh rising up from its heart, Burning the Threshold brings us a powerful draught of essence.

PANGS NO DAWN SONG AN ALTAR IN THE GLADE THE BREACH THE ANGRY LAUGHING GOD WORMWOOD AND GALL THE DOWNWARD ROAD SCARCE OF FISHING VESPERS CHIME SONG OF THE MARVELS

S

ince 2001, Alasdair Roberts has busily pursued the path of his ancestors, down the many and varied byways of Scottish traditional music — and of English and Irish traditional music as well, all of which have fed the American folk tradition from its earliest days. Over the past 15 years, Alasdair has released eight albums of self-written material and interpretations of traditional song alike, all played in a diversity of electric and acoustic arrangements, bringing a modern thrust to the music while honoring the many singers from whom this material was learned and adapted. Following the acoustic austerity of his self-titled 2015 release, Alasdair’s applied himself to electric guitar and band once again for his ninth album, Pangs. Alasdair Roberts and Friends were deep within the epic song approaches of the widely-acclaimed A Wonder Working Stone (2013) when last heard creating music of such scope. While similarly broad in range, Pangs brings different forms of song-craft and modes of collaboration again. Throughout his career, Alasdair has created an original and personal music from certain traditional song sources (always carefully annotated in the album notes for the listeners’ derivation). His additional contributions to music and lyric bring new meanings, passing the pieces

NO EXPORT TO UK/EU, ALL ELSE OKAY

ever forward, as they were passed to him. Anyone immersed in the old texts of Child ballads and the narrative and history that they embody might be expected to imbibe in other ancient and sacred materials — and indeed, on occasion, Alasdair has taken care to weave the disparate strands of his far-flung researches and musings into what we can only perceive as a new form of folk song — Syncretic Ballads, for want of any other term. And so the Pangs songs variously touch on subjects as diverse as kenosis, couvade and Malthusianism. Recorded in Ireland with Julie MacLarnon, Pangs finds Alasdair in a power trio beside his long-time musical partners Alex Neilson on drums and Stevie Jones on bass (and he turns his hand to piano and organ too). Along with guests Debbie Armour, Tom Crossley, Rafe Fitzpatrick and Jessica Kerr, they summon up a powerful — and powerfully gorgeous — storm over ten new songs. With “The Angry Laughing God” and “The Downward Road,” Alasdair delivers two of his most driving pieces — one might even call them “rocking”! Following that, he turns around and plays two of his most touching ballads (and our lad’s had a lot of them over the years!) in “Wormwood and Gall” and “Scarce of Fishing”. Additionally, the album is launched with the eponymous track “Pangs” in what we hear to be a remarkable evocation of the 60s and 70s folk-rockers of the British Isles — the electric warriors of Fairport Convention, the Battlefield Band, Planxty, Richard Thompson and so many significant others! Alasdair’s roots run deep and his sound is conversant with the many iterations of the music from the past, but it is simultaneous present and active in our contemporary milieu. This is vitally true of Pangs — the people of today are in dire need of the edification and amusement that Alasdair Roberts brings. Pass the music ever forward!

The album gained wide and immediate praise, with broad critical and commercial acclaim from outlets as diverse as NME, Pitchfork, and The Village Voice. This cult affection is best summarized in the album’s involvement as the premise for the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, i.e., the basis for the lead character falling in love with said “mother” being their mutual love for the obscure Who Will Cut Our Hair… The Unicorns disbanded shortly after the release of WWCOHWWG?, with founding member Nick Thorburn going on to create the band Islands, and perform in various projects.

The bouncy groove gives way to a cheerful shuffle with a singalong hook that lands somewhere between a crisp morning and a cool afternoon. The flip highlights the more soulful side of The Jay Vons' repertoire, with a mid-tempo number seasoned with a reverb-heavy horn line performed by Billy and Freddy of The Extraordinaires. Written in a Canadian Tavern over an afternoon of delectable consumption, the Boys find themselves pondering Man's greatest quandary: Will love tear them apart? Tunes about coming up short have never felt so right!

LP

Within the songs of Laetitia Tamko there are infinite worlds: emotional spaces that grow wider with time, songs within songs that reveal themselves on each listen. Tamko is a multi-instrumentalist and a producer, recording since 2014 as Vagabon. Her forthcoming debut, Infinite Worlds, builds upon Tamko’s stripped-down demos that have been circulating online and throughout the independent music community for the past two years. Tamko’s songs are embedded with her own story and personal history: growing up in Cameroon, her family’s move to New York and adjusting to culture shock. She grew up around music and loved it, but finishing engineering school was a priority before music could start to feel like a real possibility. To date, Tamko mostly listens to East and West African music nostalgic of her childhood, styles of music that influence her own in subtle ways.

GENRE : POP / SINGER-SONGWRITER / FOLK FILE UNDER: “E” ENTRANCE RELEASE DATE : February 24, 2017 NO EXPORT (JAPAN, S. AMERICA EXPORT OK) TRACK LISTING: Book of Changes, the new album by Guy Blakeslee as ENTRANCE, is a poetic song cycle about the seasons of the heart, tracing an emotional journey through longing and emptiness to peace and redemption. The record achieves a seamless melding of the personal, political and philosophical, a vibrant document of an artist hitting a creative stride and discovering an expansive new sound. The adventurously produced collection of songs is reminiscent of Townes Van Zandt’s ruminative lyricism and the gypsy flavored orchestral explorations of Arthur Lee and Love, uniquely channeled through Blakeslee’s 21st Century approach to the spiritual dimensions of American songwriting in a way that gives an old form new power. Book of Changes was written and recorded by Blakeslee over the course of a restless year of travel, touring and transformation. The album took shape in 11 different studios in Los Angeles and London, produced by Blakeslee and mixed by multi-instrumentalist David Vandervelde (Father John Misty, Jay Bennett) at Elliott Smith’s New Monkey Studios in Van Nuys, California. Additional mixing came from Chris Coady (Future Islands, Cass McCombs) who lent his talents to the song “Always the Right Time.” Grammy nominated engineer Sarah Register (David Bowie, The Shins) mastered Book of Changes. On the new recording, Blakeslee is joined by several very talented friends including longtime collaborator Paz Lenchantin (Pixies, Silver Jews) and percussionist Frank Lenz (Pedro the Lion, The Weepies) as well as vocalists Jessica Tonder and Lael Neale and the drummers Derek James and Will Scott. The accompanying art by critically acclaimed artist Amanda Charchian captures Blakeslee with freshly blossomed orchids.

SALES POINTS Book of Changes follows the sold out Promises EP ENTRANCE’s Guy Blakeslee is well respected in the indie community and toured on the EP release with Beach House, Explosions in the Sky, and Scott Fagan ENTRANCE’s recent live performances were compared to Jeff Buckley, Luther Perkins, Iron & Wine, and Rufus Wainwright Video for “Always the Right Time” starring Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!) and directed by Jay Buim (Future Islands, Creative Time NYC / Nick Cave) will be fully serviced Mixed by David Vandervelde (Father John Misty, Jay Bennett) and Chris Coady (Future Islands, Cass McCombs) with mastering by Grammy nominated engineer Sarah Register (David Bowie, The Shins)

Strings, pianos, xylophones, bells and dreamy female voices swirl around fluid basslines and fingerpicked acoustic guitars. At the heart of these songs is a voice, which holds an intensity of emotion that can only come from the depths of the soul. From the devotional pop of “Always the Right Time” and the western bolero of “I’d Be A Fool” through the stark blues of “The Avenue” and the dark romantic flamenco of “Molly,” Blakeslee’s singing carries the narrative with heart-stopping force. Each unfolding chapter touches a new emotional nerve, from the Nancy & Lee style sway of “Winter Lady” and the apocalyptic film noir piano dirge “Leaving California” to the anthemic album closer “Revolution Eyes,” which dissolves in a stormy melt of piano and bells as the listener is swept away on an ecstatic wave of liberation and joy. While at moments the ghost of rock ’n’ roll is invoked, for the most part this is something more fragile and ethereal; music from a half-remembered dream, strange and familiar at the same time.

Book of Changes features Blakeslee joined by longtime collaborator Paz Lenchantin (Pixies, Silver Jews) and percussionist Frank Lenz (Pedro the Lion, The Weepies)

When asked about the impetus for the new sound and style, Blakeslee replied: “I desperately wanted to get back to the essential nature of ‘SONG’ - as opposed to a ‘track’… Most music that is released nowadays is really a track, not a song - it would be impossible for one person with an instrument to sit down in a room and perform it… So it was important that this album begin from actual songs that I could sing with a guitar or a piano… all of the textures and sounds I added along the way are the icing on the cake to expand the experience for the listener, but at the heart is a real song, a basic text of words and a melody. I want to do my part to see that tradition isn’t lost. I believe there’s still a lot of power in a song.”

“Blakeslee is a spirit burning bright who we’ve loved for a long time.” - DUBLAB

“Previously known for exploring overlapping psychedelic, bluesy, and rocking modes, for these four songs he’s turned toward a folk direction, with nice baroque bookends on the opening title track and an emotional thrust throughout that could please fans of Oberst.” - Vinyl District

South African via Berlin Indie Pop darlings Dear Reader return with Day Fever, their fourth album on City Slang and the first in four years. It was recorded and produced by John Vanderslice in his San Francisco studio, Tiny Telephone. Well-known as a producer for acts like Spoon and The Mountain Goats, and a musician in his own right, Vanderslice has made a name for himself in analog recording, something Dear Reader had not explored prior to this album. Already far from home in Berlin, the South African musician’s trek to San Francisco meant a huge adjustment in terms of her recording style. Recording on tape helped Dear Reader mastermind Cherilyn MacNeil commit to the performance and narrative act of making an album, and to break, in her words, the habit of “editing the life out of things.” In Day Fever, those old habits have died, and hard. The raw, melodious, at times discordant record has most certainly retained its life, left fresh and untrampled by infinite do-overs. In fact, each song on the album is the result of just one, or a maximum of two, studio performances. Day Fever sounds more minimal, more vanguard than Dear Reader’s previous albums, bending to match the album’s thematic pitch: if Rivonia (2013) pulled us back into the MacNeil’s (and South Africa’s) history, Day Fever slingshots us into the present to confront life in real time. GENRE : ALTERNATIVE FILE UNDER: “B” Brokeback “T” Tortoise, Tweedy RELEASE DATE : February 24, 2017 NO EXPORT (JAPAN, S. AMERICA EXPORT OK) TRACK LISTING: A sense of place has been essential to the music of Brokeback since guitarist/bassist Douglas McCombs first launched the project in 1995. Initially conceived as a solo outlet, the Chicago group has taken on new dimensions over the past two decades, morphing from the lean, pastoral ambience of the first album, Field Recordings from the Cook County Water Table, to the more muscular, taut arrangements and dynamic swells of the last release, Brokeback and the Black Rock, for which McCombs assembled a new quartet lineup. Each album develops with exacting detail, revealing McCombs’s gift for dialing in the essence of a mood, feeling, or distant locale with a handful of reverb-laden guitar tones, elegant and sustained, strategically placed and sparingly deployed. The instrumental landscapes he creates on Illinois River Valley Blues are utterly transportive, evoking familiar open-frontier soundtracks and charting out new sonic territory. McCombs’s singular approach to guitar and bass, characteristic of his work with Tortoise, is expertly enhanced here by James Elkington (Tweedy, Steve Gunn) on second guitar (moving over from drums on the last record). The two salute one of McCombs’s favorite bands, Television, with latticed dual leads on the stately yet aggressive “On the Move and Vanishing,” while Elkington’s subtle layers of pedal steel and organ burnish more ruminative forays like “Andalusia, IL” and “Ursula.” Their intertwining flights are anchored by the sturdy yet versatile rhythm team of bassist Pete Croke (Exit Verse, Tight Phantomz) and drummer Areif Sless-Kitain (the Eternals), the newest member of Brokeback. Thematically this is McCombs’s most personal offering yet, reflecting on his early years growing up along the Illinois River corridor between Peoria and Chicago. Though the inspiration is McCombs’s, the execution is wholly a group effort. With the same instrumentation and mostly the same lineup as the previous album, the band stretches its leader’s eternal fascination with the roots of American guitar music in bold new directions. A serpentine mystique runs through “Rise, Fernanda, Rise!,” and “Cairo Levee” conjures a desert atmosphere closer to the Sahara than the American southwest. Side one of the album closes with a moody, meditative take on “Spanish Venus,” a ballad written by cornetist and sometime Brokeback collaborator Rob Mazurek (Chicago Underground, Exploding Star Orchestra). “I could hear Brokeback doing the tune from the moment I heard him workshopping it with Pulsar Quartet at a little cocktail bar in Logan Square,” says McCombs. Several songs feature lush, multi-layered vocals by Amalea Tshilds (the Paulina Hollers), who made a deep impression on McCombs with a spellbinding a cappella performance a couple years ago. “I often imagine female vocals on Brokeback records, but I wanted it to be someone that I have personal history with, someone who can nail it, not to mention someone who I know digs the music,” he says. “That’s why Mary Hansen (Stereolab) sang on all those earlier records and why I wanted Lea for this.” Illinois River Valley Blues is a winding, wistful travelogue that not only captures darker textures but mines their depths. That’s been part of McCombs’s vision for Brokeback from the start: “To me a song is not worth writing if it doesn’t have a strong sense of melancholy,” he says.

GENRE : METAL / DOOM / DRONE FILE UNDER: “A” Aseethe RELEASE DATE : February 24, 2017 NO EXPORT (JAPAN, S. AMERICA EXPORT OK) TRACK LISTING: Aseethe’s unrelenting slow-doom is often compared to drone music because of its core repetitions. This distinctly non-metal approach combined with harsh vocals and unusual samples gives Aseethe a unique voice among metal’s boundary pushers. On Hopes of Failure, the Iowa band’s primary influences of doom and drone share a similar ethos, but rarely do they converge with as much restraint, and patience, drawing on inventive sound sources and distorted, just enough, to add some sludge. Aseethe is the direction that heavy music is moving in. Aseethe guitarist/vocalist Brian Barr initially started Aseethe as a solo project to explore a more doom-oriented sound. Barr was soon joined by Eric Diercks on drums and samples, who brought to the project a love of new music and ability to provide rhythmic complexity to Aseethe’s steady, dark march. The current trio was formed when Brian’s brother Danny Barr joined on bass and vocals.

SALES POINTS Hopes of Failure is the unrelenting, mammoth-riffed Thrill Jockey debut from crushing doom trio Aseethe Aseethe, while up to now a secret to the larger music world, has long been a favorite of inventive heavy artists. They have played regionally with Yob, Converge, The Body, SUMAC, Thou, Horseback, and Inter Arma with appearances at Midnite Communion Festival and Gilead Festival

Aseethe’s self-released albums, with the exception of their 12” limited edition of Barn Owl covers (only 100 copies made) that extracted a Barn Owl riff into a side long piece, have been largely noise-influenced soundscapes. Hopes of Failure strips away much of those elements into the bare essentials focused on methodical, and crushing music by devoting all attention to creating mammoth-sized riffs. The meditative component of Aseethe’s sound remains driven by an inward focus, a stare down the caverns of depression. Lyrically Brian and Danny contemplate the steady, exponential decay of modern society. The juxtaposition of these reflections are best articulated in closing track “Into the Sun,” which also features the rare appearance of melodic vocals:

Aseethe have just wrapped up a national tour with Hell and Fister

“Reach further for hopes of failure Your body is breaking down Build further the bridge we need”

A limited cassette edition of the album was made for the band’s recent tour and sold out within a week

Since the band’s inception, Aseethe has been dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a heavy band. Their pummeling and extended pieces are as enveloping as a drive through the Iowa cornfields of their home. Their drone influence and the dark lenses through which they view the world are a confluence of ingredients that are at once deliberate, devastating and exhilarating.

Aseethe recently signed with Hexagram Booking (Wolves in the Throne Room, Bell Witch, Thou) and are planning extensive touring throughout 2017 LP pressed on virgin vinyl, packaged in jacket with flooded black pocket, black paper inner sleeve, and free download coupon. A limited supply will be pressed on grey vinyl. CD version in 4 panel mini-LP style gatefold package

Label: Northern Spy Records Release Date: 02/24/2017 | Cat#: NS 087 Format: LP | Packaging: LP Jacket SLP: $18.99 Barcode: 703610875968 Pitchfork on PCW: “rock’n’roll is a pirated vessel, steered unhurriedly toward doom.” and “...collaging decades of downtown New York dissonance while sludging into the future.” PC Worship’s new LP Buried Wish is an off-kilter journey through hook-laden alternative rock, experimental tape manipulation, downer punk riffs and long form improv-based psychedelic instrumentals. As the album weaves through the damaged re appropriation of objectionable sounds, it seeks to explore a contrast between the traditional rock band format + instrumentation with outsider experimentalism by exploring new ideas related to composition and unconventional (often homemade) instrumentation. Buried Wish further embodies PC Worship’s dedication to categorical ambiguity as it opens with a prelude written for a horn quartet + tape loops and ends with a pseudo-americana, sludge folk song, while throughout the album, continues the familiar PC aesthetic of unfiltered, subconscious inspiration, fueled by dystopian lyrics, eternal guitar solos and vamped out sonic exploration. Buried Wish was written and recorded by Justin Frye in the basement of a condemned building throughout 2016 in Bushwick, which flooded half way through the process. It was sourced from drawn out solo tracking, upright bass experiments, large ensemble improv sessions and random input from various collaborators over the past year, with contributions from Michael Etten, Jessica Papitto, Shannon Sigley, Mario Maggio, Jordan Bernstein, Pat Spadine, Greg Fox, Marilu Donovan, Kassie Carlson and Adam “Junkyard” Markiewicz, among others.

The Time Between Us is the title of a new 6-song split EP between Sargent House alum Emma Ruth Rundle (Red Sparowes, Marriages) and the label’s newest addition, Louisville’s Jaye Jayle (featuring Evan Patterson of Young Widows). The EP boasts three previously unreleased tracks from each artist. On the heels of her recently released and widely recognized third album, Marked for Death, Emma Ruth Rundle unveils a follow-up dose of brooding, melancholic rock draped in shimmering guitar and the breathy familiarity of her unmistakable voice. Opening track “The Distance” incorporates the lonely tones and dusty landscapes which are by now a trademark of the ERR sound, its lulling swells of reverb punctuated by sparkles of lyrical intensity. “To Fold in England (Hours)”, meanwhile, invokes a stoic kind of restraint, all muted keys and aching strings, a subtle backdrop for Rundle’s delicate fretwork, soon extinguished under the density of her nuanced, layered vocals. The side closes with the original acoustic version of “Hand of God”, a standout track from Marked for Death. Stripped of studio embellishments, Rundle’s haunting voice, accompanied simply by the thrum of her acoustic guitar, takes center stage. A fleeting glint of vulnerability, “Hand of God” exhibits the raw, cathartic nature of Rundle’s art, reduced to its essence. Though possessing a distinct Southern filter, Jaye Jayle’s stripped-back noir in fact owes more to Krautrock than the blues, while Evan Patterson’s baritone croon brings to mind Angels of Light-era Michael Gira. Jaye Jayle unsurprisingly count Spacemen 3, Neu!, and Lungfish among their varied influences, while arriving at a sound wholly unusual in the American underground. The swampy thump of opener “About Time You Came to Me” is a prime example of what the band describes as its “exercises in tension and restraint”, a slide guitar serenade wallowing in a vaporous sea of otherworldly keyboard sounds and floor tom wallop. The slow-boil grumble of second track “Unnecessarily” finds Patterson channeling his inner Iggy Pop over a rhythm made menacing by its sheer unwillingness to break form. “Hope Faith County”, by comparison, seems as if transmitted from a dream. A timeless meander draped in icy violins, the song concludes Jaye Jayle’s side with Patterson’s reverb-laden voice nonchalantly positing the unexpected query, “Space girl, have you finally found me”? Considering the singular, peculiar nature of the group’s sound, it seems like a reasonable question.

VORHEES

B l a c k H o r s e P i ke Februar y 24, 2017 Dana Wachs’ debut EP as Vorhees is a beautiful destruction of memory and sound told through ambient passages, everlasting guitar riffs and ethereal vocals, the culmination recalling waves of Fever Ray and Fripp & Eno’s Air Structures. Vinyl comes with a digital download and printed lyric insert. Black Horse Pike represents an unintentionally chronological contemplation. Across a five-track suite, Vorhees explores memories of teenage meanderings in New Jersey’s suburban doldrums, the scars and artifacts of relationships with intimates and religion, and the impossible waking (un)reality of her insomniac tendencies throughout the world in ever changing hotel rooms and tour bus bunks. The title track and opening song on Black Horse Pike sets the record’s compositional tone. Eulogizing a late night drive to a secluded section of suburbia, Dana Wachs conjures memories of a place where two nascent lovers could share a kiss and friends could travel without cause. Languid textures billow from her machines in a bed of harmonic ambience, creating a haze through which infinite guitar notes sear and echoed vocals float. “Souvenir” follows these forms with an expansive bass tone, as if to represent the heaviness of shedding failed promises of past lovers and religious faith, beautifying and destroying nostalgia in unison. “In the church of texture, the disintegration of signal is God.” Vorhees’s beautiful destruction/deconstruction of memory and sound knows no better representatives than her two ambient passages on Black Horse Pike, “SPL” and “Millie’s Pinky”. The former’s pillow of guitar manipulation recalls Brian Eno’s Apollo in creating an otherworldly love song to the infinite and electrical charge of sonic forces. Dana’s vocals lead the hymn, her words providing somnolent percussion through poetic technique (“sound pushes air, pressure push and shoves”) as a gossamer voice captivates and haunts in the manner of her subjects. “Millie’s Pinky” stretches the possibilities of processed breath and string from organic origins to interstellar soundscapes with snare manipulations by Greg Fox. The finale of Black Horse Pike represents the ellipsis in a diary’s last page before starting anew - the awareness of time passed and still to occur - three dots for nine minutes of soundtracking an insomniac’s forever fatigue, waking dreams, and bliss upon sleep. Black Horse Pike was written, recorded and produced by Dana Wachs between touring with Belle & Sebastian and Deerhunter. During this time, Dana participated in parts II and III of a performance art piece titled Rural Violence, directed by Brandon Stousy, with part II presented by Matthew Barney. In conjunction, she collaborated with George Clarke of Deafheaven, forming the new duo Wachs & Clarke, for the 20 minute accompanying music piece RVIII: Invocation, (with all proceeds going to the Matthew Shepard Foundation).

THE SKATALITES

Foundation Ska RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 24, 2017

Foundation Ska is one of the top compilations to explore the greatness of the legendary Skatalites. This top-tier Jamaican ska band featured the cream of the island’s musicians in a true supergroup. Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso, and Johnny Moore were already recognized as the best players on the island and Don Drummond’s legendary status eclipsed them all. Adding Lloyd Knibbs and Lloyd Brevette as the rhythm section and Jackie Mittoo on piano, the Skatalites’ greatness was unrivaled. The reissue of this 1997 album, long out of print, is now a strictly Studio One affair with the inclusion of six hard-to-find tracks from the label. A true slice of ska history, these songs sound as fresh today as they did when first released in the early sixties. Including a history of the group and song notes along with its mix of top songs and vocals, this album is a must have for all ska fans.

HIGHLIGHTS: • Liner notes by Studio One and Heartbeat Records personality Chris Wilson • Booklet chronicling the history of the Skatalites and song information included • This previously out-of-print compilation is being reissued for the first time for its 20th anniversary • This edition of the compilation features six scarce Studio One tracks not included on the original release • Bob Marley and the Wailers featured on the track “Simmer Down”

Soul Jazz Records Presents

KaS Product BLACK & NOIR Mu tan t S yn th- Pu nk fr o m F ranc e 1 980- 83 24th February 2017

Soul Jazz Records are releasing a collection of lost recordings by French mutant experimental synth group KaS Product, all originally recorded in the period 1980 – 83. KaS Product feature on Soul Jazz Recordsʼ recent Punk 45 – Les Punks: The French Connection. Mainly recorded on early tape, synth and drum machines, KaS Productʼs mixture of Spatszʼ hypnotic, electronic and angular hard-edged beats, matched to the spiky vocals and guitar of Mona Soyoc, have led to comparisons with Suicide, Liliput/Kleenex, Cabaret Voltaire as well as to the group being forerunners of the cold wave/synth wave movement. The recordings here are taken from their early releases on the local Punk label from Nancy, France, at the start of the 1980s that were first put together on CD by the French Fan Club label in 1990. Soul Jazz Records are releasing the album on limited-edition vinyl LP (with download), CD and worldwide digital. Formats: CD: SJRCD366 / Double Vinyl: SJRLP366 / Digital: SJRD366

Few artists have the ability to totally seduce over a few spins like Italy’s Herva. What may seem messy at first listen starts to fall into sharper definition and ‘Hyper Flux’ makes a very strong case for being his most seductive and mature record yet. The album has dismantled the broken beats of his early records and drifts, dives and shivers, its beats blended into the haze, everything approached from unusual angles with none of the music sounding entirely digital as it smudges between manipulated live instrumentation and field recordings coupled with synthesis and space - there's a warm heart at the centre of this music. Of making the album he says “I challenged myself to play real instruments. I have a lot of guitars and weird acoustic instruments at my home and also my Dad’s. He's primarily a guitarist and an inventor of instruments, so I have lots of those. Anyway I'm not a pro but I'm able to play drums quite well and I'm not that bad on guitars and bass too, but the weirdo instruments are the best, you are even more free to reinvent how to play them since no one else knows how to.” The deep ambience of the albums opener ‘Esotic Energy’ melts into the shivering 4/4 pulses of ‘Jitter’. ‘Nasty MF’ pits a sludgy house beat against rough vocal samples whose aggression is disarmed by bell-like melodies, matching one earthiness for another. ‘Rule The Sun’ melts pattering drums and distorted chords with distant piano, while ’Multicone’ takes things down with relaxing undulating chords and clicks and cuts. The centrepiece of the album is the space cruise of ‘Lly Spirals’ which sounds like early 80s boogie blasted into the stratosphere. Things start to get weird with ‘Solar Xub’s drifting jazz, punctuated with scratchy beats and noise. ‘Cops Twerk’ is a rattling piece of uptempo techno with flickering rave chords and a vocal that sounds like police radio whereas ‘Peach’ is a bristling piece of ambient house, all reverbed hits and reversed stabs over a scuttling broken drum kit. ‘Dedicated’ featuring the vocals of Mar G. balances loose chords and a reversed break against her plaintive, striking vocal. Hyper Flux finishes the way it started, with the distorted chords of ‘Zykmed’, echoing dust and hiss played out over a gentle nostalgic melody.

Apple O’ finds our favorite foursome in the mood for Love: Never have they sounded more passionate, more raw, or more Romantic. The sound is pristine, the songcraft simply stunning, even by Deerhoof standards. Dance, weep, and sing along as Adam + Eve dine on apples while candlelight flickers, bombs explode, Panda bears shake pink tambourines. And did we mention those drums? Histrionic, thundering, stuttering, booty-shaking beats, mingling with Deerhoof’s magically conjoined guitar twins, while the one and only Satomi lavishes her unforgettable melodic honey upon them. OVERVIEW Children of Alice have been quietly producing amorphous and intoxicating soundscapes as part of the Folklore Tapes collective for a number of years now, beginning in 2013 with Harbinger of Spring on the shared Ornithology release. This poetic conjuration of rebirth and new growth was the first unfurling of post-Broadcast creation from James Cargill, one half of the personal and artistic relationship at the heart of that epochal and increasingly feted band. The name Children of Alice was chosen as an act of tribute to the late Trish Keenan, for whom Alice in Wonderland and in particular Jonathan Miller’s summerhazy 60s idyll of an adaptation, was a presiding inspiration. The name invokes her abiding spirit and also creates a sense of continuity with the evolving Broadcast soundworld, which became more concentrated and individual as it refined itself and adapted to new configurations. The group (or perhaps we should call them a collaborative triad, since they occupy island territory far removed from the familiar shores of rock, though still keeping it in vision on the far horizon) consists of Cargill along with his former bandmate Roj Stevens (who played keyboards in Broadcast) and Julian House, co-founder of Ghost Box records, whose distinctive graphic design work also gives the label its signature look, and hidden prestidigitator behind The Focus Group. This LP brings together their entire output to date, on their first widely available release.

BLUES NEW RELEASE - -02/24/2017 Eddie Bo & Chris Barber The 1991 Sea-Saint Sessions LMCD203 5052442008774 CD THE LAST MUSIC COMPANY

$14.99 BLUES

Edwin Joseph Bocage known as Eddie Bo was born in New Orleans on September 20th 1930. A singer and pianist schooled in jazz, he was best known for his blues, soul and funk output as a performer, arranger, composer and record producer in the city. Eddie worked with over forty different record labels in his time and incredibly, released more singles than anyone else from New Orleans except Fats Domino. He worked with Big Joe Turner, Earl King, Guitar Slim, Johnny Adams, Lloyd Price, Ruth Brown, Smiley Lewis, The Platters and more. It was while Chris Barber was playing with Dr John for a month in New Orleans during 1991 that a friend suggested that Chris should rent Marshall Sehorn and Allen Toussaint’s “SeaSaint” studio for a couple of days to cut Eddie Bo with some of New Orleans’ finest on the session. Eddie jumped at the opportunity and rounded up some top guns, starting with Bobby Bland’s long-time guitar player Wayne Bennett. Born in 1931, Wayne had also played with an impressive bunch including, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon, Jackie Wilson, The Chi-Lites and many more. Eddie had wanted electric bass and tuba over the two days and so in came Charles “Chuck” Moore and Walter Payton. An associate of the Neville Brothers and Allen Toussaint, Chuck had played electric bass on recordings with Guitar Slim Jnr., Rockin’ Dopsie, Marva Wright, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Zigaboo Modeliste and others. Walter, a stalwart of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Young Tuxedo Brass Band had also participated in the many classic New Orleans recordings including Lee Dorsey’s “Working In A Coal Mine”, Aaron Neville’s Tell It Like It Is” and Robert Parker’s “Barefootin’”. On the second day, Chuck got called to another session and but Walter stepped in and surprised everyone by playing bass guitar style on his string bass to great effect. Then Eddie got the hottest drummer in town. Russell Batiste Jr., was just 26 years old on this session. He had joined the Funky Meters a couple of years earlier when they were reincarnated following the breakup of The Meters and was on fire over this two-day session. New Orleans local “Alto Red” Morgan played Alto Sax and Chris Barber played Trombone. According to Chris they had no rehearsal and just made up their parts on the spot. “The tapes remained in Chris’ archive until 2015 when he sent me a CD listening copy. The instantly infectious, pre-Katrina New Orleans funk exploded out of my speakers, transporting me to Crescent City for the best part of an hour and rendering me oblivious to the phone and occasional tentative taps on my office door. Now it’s your turn to step into the time machine.” Malcolm Mills. Chairman. Proper Music Group Ltd. 2016. Eddie died in 2009, a sorely underappreciated veteran of the New Orleans R&B scene. Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint were among those performing at his memorial. • • • •

All material previously unreleased. Recorded in New Orleans at SEA-SAINT studios. Featuring Wayne Bennett on guitar. Produced by Chris Barber.

MISTER SATURDAY NIGHT RECORDS www.mistersaturdaynight.com

Artist: Justin Carter | Title: The Leaves Fall

A delicate collection of songs for meditation on spiritual struggle, The Leaves Fall is a window into the parallel reality of Justin Carter. Centered on his intimate vocals, pointed with hints of Arthur Russell and John Martyn; the eight tracks are buttressed by warm acoustic guitars, vibraphones, organs and flourished with modern production. They are familiar but distant, like ghosts living in the present. Carter grew up in a country house in rural North Carolina, a place with a pecan tree and abandoned train tracks in the front yard. On long car rides from home to his dadʼs work as a school teacher, his ears were filled with the prog of Yes, the vocals of Al Jarreau and the complexity of Christopher Parkeningʼs take on Bach. It was his father, who himself has moonlighted as a guitar player and songwriter for nearly 50 years, that taught Carter to sing and play in his early teens. The Leaves Fall was written on and off over the course of about five years, a secret to most. Carter is more familiar, alongside Eamon Harkin, as co-founder of popular New York parties Mister Saturday Night and Mister Sunday, and their label offshoot, Mister Saturday Night Records. As the Mister thrived, his songwriting continued to tick along in the background, days and weeks stolen here and there to write and record in various locations – from remote studios in the Catskills to basements in Venice Beach.

The album features Jason Lindner, pianist on Bowie's final masterpiece, Blackstar; cello from Archie Pelago's Greg Heffernan; and programming by LIES Records and The Trilogy Tapes producer Marcos Cabral. It was mixed by Benjamin Tierney, who also worked his magic on Kamasi Washington's The Epic. It finds its context in the world of Planetarium, a new listening session established by Carter and his Mister Saturday Night DJ partner, Eamon Harkin, where live music is mixed amongst hours of records to create an immersive, communal listening experience focused on quality hi-fi sound in non-traditional spaces; the album will presented in this manner when toured. “Nothing makes me happier than to see people letting go. My ambition in all my creative work is to make moments where that can happen. As a DJ, I use othersʼ music to create those moments, but itʼs always been in me to make my own music for that purpose. After twenty-five years of writing music for myself, it makes me really happy to have something to share with others.” - Justin Carter

ROCK NEW RELEASE – 2/24/2017 Chilli Willi And The Red Hot Peppers Real Sharp - A Thrilling Two CD Anthology LMCD204 5052442008781 CD2 THE LAST MUSIC COMPANY

$17.99

ROCK

When it came to recording their first LP "Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers - Kings Of The Robot Rhythm" in 1972, duo Martin Stone and Philip Lithman asked various members of Brinsley Schwartz (Nick Lowe, Billy Rankin and Bob Andrews) to join them just for the sessions. The result led the pair to recruit a bushel of full-time Red Hot Peppers in the form of Paul "Diceman" Bailey, Paul "Bassman" Riley and Pete Thomas to hit the road. Incredibly, not even the ensuing 400 gigs in two years and the release of a second album Bongos Over Balham by the expanded line-up, was enough to sustain the enterprise. Arguably, at their peak after the Naughty Rhythms Tour of 1975, (with other British "pub rock" groups, Kokomo and Dr. Feelgood), the band broke up. In 1974, Zig Zag editor Andy Childs wrote "The number of English bands who are currently performing and perfecting the many eclectic styles of American music can be counted on the thumb of one hand…they are Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers. To see them live is an experience. Their music melts your heart, invites you to dance and sing along, and when it's all over, you feel a rush of energy and exhilaration pulsing through your blood…like you don't quite believe what you've heard or seen, so come back and shout for more and you come back and see them again and again." "REAL SHARP" is a thrilling two CD anthology from the epicentre of pub rock, packed tight with rare and original recordings plus twenty-four pages of antics and Barney Bubbles artwork – and still only for the price of a pint and a packet of fags. This collection is dedicated to the memory of Martin Stone, Phil Lithman and Barney Bubbles.

Limited edition double CD album anthology features: • the complete Kings Of The Robot Rhythm recordings • the complete Bongos Over Balham recordings • the complete I'll Be Home re-issue of other sessions and live recordings • a previously unreleased live recording of Papa And Mama Had Love • a lavishly illustrated 24-page booklet, featuring the artistic genius of the inimitable Barney Bubbles and loads of photos.

Sevendeaths Remote Sympathy LuckyMe are proud to present ‘Remote Sympathy’ - the first ever vinyl release and new album from the enigmatic Scottish artist and composer Sevendeaths

Sevendeaths is the artist alias of Steven Shade. The revered Edinburgh-based musician, producer and composer’s cinematic, synth-epic drone music “recalls the distorted sounds of artists like Fennesz, Emeralds, and Tim Hecker, but with a surreally exacting touch (Pitchfork)” while pushing technological boundaries by developing much of his own bespoke software, created from the ground up.

His greatest body of work yet and first ever committed to vinyl, ‘Remote Sympathy’ is a monolithic, digital yet human album inspired by personal loss, disease and above all, hope the collision of these emotions creating a cathartic solution of deep, electronic atmospherics and expansive compositions.

Description: “Invention, it must be humbly admitted,” as Mary Shelley humbly admitted in her introduction to her 1818 novel “Frankenstein,” “does not consist in creating out of void, but out of chaos.” Not out of void, but out of Tokyo, Sundays & Cybele have created “Chaos & Systems,” the monstrously overwhelming new album that could well serve as the band’s mission statement. After (loudly) announcing their intentions on 2015’s ear-popping “Heaven,” the initial impression of “Chaos & Systems” leads one to believe that the systems have dominion over the chaos. The introductory title track begins the album as a piece of post-motorik perfection, so subtle and symmetrical as to sound wound by master clockmakers. But Sundays & Cybele, like all good lysergic psychedelicists, exist largely outside of the boundaries of time, and it doesn't take long before the chaos rises, an amplified antidote to what the systems dare build. In the hands of Sundays & Cybele, the chaos is no threat, but rather an essential counterpart to the band’s massive sonic structures. One without the other could be dull and unsatisfying; throughout “Chaos & Systems,” Sundays & Cybele reject being defined by either.

Sundays & Cybele Chaos & Systems Label: Beyond Beyond is Beyond Catalog Number: BBIBR034 LP / $18.99 / 857387005285

By the time the vocal cocoon breaks and the band flies unrestrained into the nearly ten-minute time-warp of “Butterfly’s Dream,” it’s clear that the band’s creation is moving and breathing on its own terms. Threatening? Only in the way that the song toys with being built almost completely on a single string-bending blast, a clarion call from a crypto-“Caravanserai”-esque creature – yet one that contains seemingly endless dimensions of decibels and depth. Enlightening? Only in the way that Sundays & Cybele can be. “Tell Me the Name of that Flower” presents itself as more of a regal request than a dogmatic demand, further evidence of an album in full bloom, here with an almost demented-Donovan appeal to the interplay of chaos (the never-too-far away electric guitar incantations) and systems (perfectly perfumed pastoral psych from Japan, anyone?). “Brujo” is the upbeat amusebouche of the album, enchanting in its echoing insistence, while serving as a worthy prelude to the album’s closing argument, “Paradise Come,” thirteen-minutes plus of poetically arranged acid-rock that threatens to leave listeners breathless, headbands drenched in sweat, murmuring, “Milton never sounded quite like this.” “Chaos & Systems” offers not a choice, but a declaration: you can’t have one without the other. Endowed with both, the cosmic creature created by Sundays & Cybele has come to life. -Ryan Muldoon

MOUNTAIN

Artist: Fire-Toolz Album: Drip Mental Cat#: HAUSMO55 Format: CD & Cassette Retail Price: $11.99 (CD), $7.99 (CS)

Just as modern experimental music traces a conversation between juxtaposed traditions, live performance tactics, and software-abetted composition frameworks, the music that Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist producer Angel Marcloid makes under her Fire-Toolz moniker burns through ideas and genres at a pace faster than the typical human brain can fathom. Drip Mental, her first release on Hausu Mountain following 2015’s Even The Files Won’t Touch You (Depravity Label), presents a 48-minute program that smears an untold library of mangled samples and live instrumentation into a hallucinatory vision of progressive songwriting and electro-industrial abandon. Her endlessly combinatory tracks fuse complex percussion workouts, guttural screams, and shimmering synthetic backdrops into bursts of aggressive self-discovery that seek to overload the senses and upset conventions with each hairpin transition. Fire-Toolz’s compositions slither between boundaries of internet detritus, finely tailored electronic collage, and unhinged metallic catharsis, planting vocal outpours of emotion and towering earworm riffs within detailed networks of found sound and programmed electronics.

Beneath signifiers that drop listeners’ attention spans into rabbit holes of intersecting musical styles (see: cyberpunk, vaporwave, EBM, trance), the heart of Fire-Toolz’s practice lies in her reexamination of 34457 76672 34457 76674 mundane daily life through the lens of the sardonic RIYL: Nine Inch Nails, Oneohtrix Point Never, prodigy, the grimly enlightened, the a-little-too-emo. Tracks like “Busy Beaver Lunch Break” extend over suite-like structures of four-onthe-floor throb, garbled synthesis, and a dizzying array of vocal styles. Peals of harsh noise interrupt the digital hardcore stomp of “To See My Hatred Clearly” before soaring keyboard leads break into a chopped-and-screwed saxophone sample conclusion. The monolithic album closer “?” solidifies Fire-Toolz’s spastic production decisions into a sentimental anthem closer to italodisco, frosted with black metal screams and elaborate piano solos. Far from seeming random in execution, each tiny element of Angel’s mosaic proves crucial to express the beautiful and grotesque depths of her personality, and the distances through which her musical self-education has wandered. 6

A split between two journeymen of the US experimental underground continues Hausu Mountain’s Mugen Series of tapes that document live takes without overdubs. Over the last decade, Pulse Emitter (Daryl Groetsch) and Brett Naucke have each issued wide catalogs of cassette and vinyl releases through which they’ve workshopped their own nuanced visions of contemporary synth performance and abstracted composition. Both musicians have mastered extensive arsenals of analog and digital instruments, and have pieced together organic systems of electronics that blur the lines between programmed structures and live improvisatory decision-making.

“His catalog encompasses drifting electronic spaceouts, baroque webs of synth harmony, even the occasional detour into noise abstraction.” - Tiny Mix Tapes ------Brett Naucke founded the influential cassette label Catholic Tapes in 2007, showcasing work from artists like Locrian, Sean McCann, & Bee Mask. Naucke has toured as the opener for Tortoise, and has shared the stage with The Silver Apples, Holly Herndon, & CAVE. “Jittery rhythms skitter across a warm gliding drone, and curious ghostly voices beg the listener to cut deeper and deeper into the unfamiliar yet intriguing textures” - Tiny Mix Tapes

On his Mugen session “AUX Girls” Brett Naucke pilots his modular synth rig through a rapidly shifting network of percussive bursts and textured swathes of noise, channeling his tightly intertwined electronics into a narrative arc that betrays no hints of recursion or dead air. Naucke populates his dense session with instances of obscured human vocals and moaning machine wails, which pop into view as juxtaposed timbral elements in a mire of sound beyond any easily traceable logic. His session jitters and squeaks over elastic synth bursts as it veers with a twist of the knob between rounded hi-fi tones and brittle mechanical beats. Brett Naucke lives in Chicago, IL, and has released albums on labels like Spectrum Spools, Umor Rex, and his own former imprint Catholic Tapes.

WHIRLWIND RECORDINGS

$14.99 JAZZ

Over the past twenty years or so, as trumpeter and saxophonist respectively, the West Canadian sisters have each shaped prolific careers in contemporary jazz, collaborating with influential names such as Clark Terry, Maria Schneider and Terry Lynn Carrington, working with large and small ensembles, and responding to various commissions to compose for jazz orchestras around the globe. For their Whirlwind debut, the Jensens have realised a long-held ambition - to write for and perform in the more intimate setting of a quintet, combining their intuitive, sibling trust with the creativity of renowned guitarist Ben Monder and the foundational artistry of bassist Fraser Hollins and drummer Jon Wikan. The particular rapport within this grouping is expressed by Christine (composer of half of this album’s material), describing the environment as being less about soloing, but with an emphasis on the question, “How are we all going to dive into this pool and swim together.” The resulting immersion, recorded in the studio across two days, sounds both live and organic. The conversational feel which pervades this album’s sixty-eight minutes is illustrated in opening track “Blue Yonder”, where Ingrid’s mellifluous trumpet technique (sounded through her customcreated flugel-cupped mouthpiece and ‘flumpet’ bell) melds with Christine’s warm, legato alto to conjure the aura of a wordless vocal. Such grace is echoed by the often understated though lynchpin presence of Ben Monder (whose effect is explained by Christine as “something which is intimate, yet full of the future”); and that same quiet fire is evident in grittier, rock-tinged “Swirlaround” and a freewheeling, even punkish interpretation of Kenny Wheeler’s “Old Time”. Personnel: Ingrid Jensen (trumpet, effects, kalimba and melodica), Christine Jensen (alto & soprano saxophones), Ben Monder (electric and hammertone guitar), Fraser Hollins (double bass) Jon Wikan (drums) Album Trailer: https://youtu.be/68XDDZ9HOV4 Audio: https://soundcloud.com/whirlwindrecordings/sets/ingrid-christine-jensen-infinitude/st4LqW Tracks: Blue Yonder / Swirlaround / Echolalia / Octofolk / Duo Space / Old Time / Hopes Trail / Trio Garden / Margareta / Dots And Braids

Driving country-rock rhythms and a distinctive Americana vibe underpin lead singer James Studholme’s lyrics, in this collection of stories and personal observations. The collective musical skills of the band have been used to full effect to create an album that delivers on both interpretation and atmosphere. Police Dog Hogan, first formed in 2009, has evolved over the years into a tight-knit eight-piece band combining guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, accordion, trumpet, keyboards, bass and drums to create an exuberant fusing of country, pop, folk and rocking bluegrass. In 2014 Police Dog Hogan were one of only three UK bands invited to Nashville to perform at the prestigious Americana Music Association Awards, where DJ Bob Harris – in town for the awards – snapped them up for a recording that has become one of the most-watched YouTube videos on his “Under the Apple Tree Sessions” channel. In 2015 they made a showcase appearance on Harris’s Radio 2 show. The band has repeatedly been offered headline and other spots on the main stages of numerous key festivals – among many others, they have been asked back an unprecedented three times to Larmer Tree, twice to Kendal Calling and Port Eliot, and three times to Cornbury. In 2016 they appeared at Glastonbury for the first time, on the Avalon stage. The band regularly plays to sell-out audiences up and down the country. After more than 300 live shows they’ve become a serious and ambitious musical venture that marries a devotion to touring and the presentation of consummate live performances with an utter dedication to song writing and recording.

The Archdrude is back with 40 minutes of Gnostic Inebriation. Cope’s long anticipated album of drinking songs - aptly entitled “DRUNKEN SONGS” - contains 6 winter warmers to enliven the dark sunless days, 6 tales of belligerent alcoholerated drunkenness as it plays out in tableaux across these British Isles. “As The Beer Flows Over Me” was the catalyst for this entire project. Written by Cope for his own funeral, the song celebrates our own northern latitudes, and beseeches listeners to diss the southern lands of the grape in favour of beer, beer and lager beer. “Liver Big as Hartlepool” celebrates Cope’s adopted city through the metaphysical lens. The 20 minute epic “On The Road to Tralee” concludes the album with drunken miles of bad memories, quaint observations and rustic incidentals. Expect Cope’s usual massed ranks of Mellotron 400, alongside all manner of humorous and poignant commentaries. ‘Drink Me Under The Table (Drink Me)’ ‘Liver Big As Hartlepool’ ‘Clonakilty As Charged’ ‘As The Beer Flows Over Me’ ‘Don’t Drink And Drive, You Might Spill Some’ ‘On The Road To Tralee’.
