SHILPA RAY
LAST YEAR’S SAVAGE Nobody grows up wanting to be an artist’s artist. Appreciated by the sub sect of the sub sect is like being the beauty queen at the leper colony. Hell, anybody who claims they grew up wanting to even be an artist rather than an astronaut or a Cthulhu is probably lying or was a corny kid. Art is hard and degrading and generally bullshit. Your friends will find you irritating and your parents will certainly not throw you a parade. But if you’re an artist you’re an artist; the soul will fuck you every time, what can you do? Shilpa Ray is, through no fault of her own, one of our unsung great artists. Having made her bones with the gothic Sturm und Drang of Beat The Devil and moving forward to the blues erosion of “…and The Happy Hookers” Shilpa Ray has been, armed only with an incomparable voice and harmonium haunted by the ghosts of dead lovers, perpetually crying in the wind, hoisting both middle fingers in the general direction of god. It’s not a life a wise man would choose. Shilpa Ray kicks against the pricks but the pricks keep coming. But, again, what can you do? Well, that’s been the narrative until now. With Last Year’s Savage (maybe a nod to Leonard Cohen maybe a nod to Barrence Whitfield) Shilpa Ray has taken the pain and dark funk of earlier sounds and made explicit the sublimity that was always there just below the surface. The conversation has become less a break up with doors ripped from their hinges and more the last pained pillow talk before parting. The obsessions with sex, death, bodily functions, and betrayal (not necessarily in that order) remain but Shilpa has expanded the palate to convey the resignation, the simmering discontent of an artist disenfranchised and held down. This is a quieter rage than the music Shilpa Ray has made before, more plaintive and considered, even if it’s the quiet of a hand gripped tight on the axe handle. The music remains gorgeous and stirring in its directness while Shilpa herself remains, thankfully, entirely and inappropriately threatening. Shilpa Ray has, up till this, point, yes, been an “artist’s artist.” Just about every musician in New York City, who doesn’t hate her, loves her. Nick Cave sings her praises to all with the ears to listen (he brought her along a European tour as an opener and as a backup singer in the States). Obviously there are some who will always prefer lesser versions of the Shilpa Rays of the world (as if there could be more than one), preferably with blue eyes and On Brand Waifishness, but the truth will, eventually out. Talent this big can only be kept down by for so long before the sky cracks and we all drown in the blood of angels. Either way, this is Shilpa Ray’s year.

Imager Home Solid Soul Settle Nevada Dark Hopes Silent Island Muted Human Feel The Wall
Barbarossa, the nom de plume of Londoner James Mathé, follows up his 2013 album Bloodlines with Imager, out 19th May on Memphis Industries. Imager is a cerebral, slow-burning album, tinged with melancholy and an alluring humanism. Mathé’s musical journey started with folk-tinged balladry that saw him become part of the Fence Collective, and subsequently a band member for the likes of José González, Johnny Flynn and Junip. With Bloodlines, however, Mathé started to infuse his song writing with electronic flourishes, and now with Imager, he has completed his transformation into a fully fledged electronic soul pioneer. Working with co-producer Ash Workman (Metronomy, Summer Camp) Mathé builds on the foundations provided by his organic approach to songwriting, to build elegiac electronic anthems that are filled with a simple, poignant immediacy. Imager is pervaded with a sense of disquiet, perhaps driven subconsciously by the fact that the spaces where creativity and culture flourish in London are rapidly disappearing; that the artistic communities that Mathé grew up with are being driven out of London due to financial pressures, and as a result, something vital is being lost. Yet while the album deals in displacement and heartbreak, a sense that everything is in flux, there are redemptive moments to stir the soul. ‘Silent Island’ is perhaps the best example of this. Its melancholic refrain “this city holds no beauty for me”, giving way to a blissful yet propulsive chorus that suggests creativity will always find a way. Elsewhere, ‘Settle’ is the sound of dislocation in the big city, a questioning of how to respond to your surroundings as they become increasingly alien. The languid ‘Home’, which features a guest vocal from José González, is the light to ‘Settles’ shade, it’s phrase “you're one of the lucky ones...” providing reassurance and redemption. Imager, then, is the sound of Barbarossa stepping out of the shadows and into the limelight as a talent to be reckoned with in his own right, questioning his surroundings, his own creativity and coming up wit answers that are compelling, affecting and thoughtful.

Overview
WRP9379
For those unaware, Lisbon is having a moment. The youth of the city’s neglected outer districts are speaking out and doing so through brash, innovative dance music and all-night warehouse parties. Taking polyrhythmic inspiration from the African diaspora and welding it intuitively to mutant contemporary club music artists like DJ Marfox and DJ Nigga Fox (‘Fox’ being a widely-used nod to the titular character of the iconic Star Fox video game) have arrived at startlingly new sound. A conversation between Warp and the Principe crew in early 2014 resulted in a plan to bring the scene to a worldwide audience and the concept of the CARGAA compilations was born. Inspired by the sheer amount of incredible young artists in and around Lisbon and the attitude of classic, genre-defining grime compilations like Run The Road, this is an overview of a genre in its immediate, evolving form - a series of three 12" compilations that dig as deeply as possible into the different sounds that are emerging.

HENRY STREET MUSIC - TWENTY YEARS OF FIERCE HOUSE MUSIC Incredible as it seems, this year marks twenty years since the launch of Johnny D’Mairo’s Henry Street Music label. To celebrate, BBE is marking the occasion with a sumptuous five- disc CD retrospective, a fitting tribute to one of the most important of all house labels. This is one of the most extensive grand summations yet done of a dance label. Henry Street Music exemplified its era as much as Trax and Nu-Groove had theirs. Come the mid-‘90s, the disco cut-up became ubiquitous, as thousands tried to emulate the success of Henry Street’s first big killer, The Bucketheads’ Tha Bomb –still a dancefloor staple two decades on. Many of the movers and shakers of the day had their best moments on Henry Street, and they’re all here: Johnnick, Armand Van Helden, DJ Duke, DJ Sneak, Dirty Harry, Davidson Ospina, Todd Terry, Mateo and Matos, Brutal Bill, Josh Wink, even the UK’s own Ashley Beedle, and many more –a veritable roll-call of the premiere-league of dance at the time, an era when dance music still seemed incredibly fertile and the link with its own past was still vital. Some of the American originals can struggle to get props among the countless mutations of house out there vying for attention in today’s digitalized dance scene, but the real house-heads always knew to check them, and will recognize this as quality product, through and through. Henry Street (named after Brooklyn homeboy Johnny’s neighbourhood) always had a ‘New York’ vibe, and even when drawing its producers from further afield, the label encapsulated the city’s melting-pot of talent and raw, bristling energy... energy captured here, and exploding off these remastered tracks like it’s 1999 all over again! Alongside the massive dancefloor anthems from the likes of Kenny Dope and Armand Van Helden are some real gems that got away, some exclusive mixes, and the thoughts of Johnny D, one of the prime-movers of the New York dance scene even before he came up with his own label, responsible for countless hits as promotions man and as dance A&R at Atlantic. Never one for the limelight, Johnny’s own story is nonetheless inextricably bound up with the transition from disco through house to the ubiquity of dance music today. So... dust off those dancing shoes, and get ready to feel the heat, it’s one more time for the Henry Street Hustle! Key Selling Points • Henry St catalogue is a who’s who of house music, featuring releases from Kenny Dope, Armand Van Heldon, DJ Sneak, Terry Hunter, Little Louie Vega, Todd Terry, Ralphi Rosario, 95 North, Paul Simpson, Ashley Beedle, many of the versions included have never been available in this format before. • BBE brought you Masters at Work 10th Anniversary albums, near 15 years on Defected Records have recently released a MAW retrospective, highlighting the contemporary importance of the golden era of dance music, which Henry St Music was so instrumental in shaping • Full press and radio campaign UK, France, Germany • Extensive sleeve notes telling for the first time the full story of Henry Street’s meteoric rise winning numerous gold discs along the way • Label originator Johnny D will be available for interviews 5CD:

Kerrier District - 4 Hypercolour
For more information please contact Adam Calman adam@k7.com (P) 718-‐722-‐9935 x 12 Cornish acid dance pioneer, Luke Vibert, dusts off the old gladrags and revives his cherished Kerrier District moniker for a new album this year on Hypercolour. Having already released an album last year (the audacious 303 tweakathon ‘Ridmik’, released under the Luke Vibert name), Vibert returns to the label with a 14 track album as Kerrier District. “4” will be the first Kerrier album since 2004’s self titled long player for the legendary Rephlex label. Two singles also emerged from this project in 2006 and 2011, so it’s a huge scoop for the British imprint and a welcome return for Vibert’s disco and funk led project. Digging into a huge pot of influence, and ably assisted with a trusty MPC, “4” is not surprisingly made up of a glorious collage of samples, old skool drum loops and large doses of acid funk and deep electronic disco, inspired in parts by the landmark “Black Devil Disco Club” EP from 1978 that has since gone on to influence the music of many like minded producers (step forward Metro Area/Daniel Wang et al). A scan through the track titles (“Treacle Tits”? “Discuntek”?) reveal an album filled with humour and mischievous intent, most definitely a trait of many of Vibert’s past releases, but the music really is some serious business. From the album opener, “Discogram”, with its easy (listening) vibes and low slung groove, right the way through to the closing “Come On Kerrier” with its frenzied synth work, deadly bass and incessant vocal stabs, the album is a Technicolor romp through feel good modern funk music as only Kerrier knows how. Drawing upon a wealth of incredible source material, playful beat programming and lush bass, “4” is an album that will quite possibly soundtrack the Summer of 2015 for many, many people.

Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons Message From The Other Side SALES TEXT A career spent DJing across the globe was the catalyst for Damian Lazarus’s latest project – Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons. Masterminded by Lazarus the album brings together a wide assortment of vocalists, collaborators and players from around the world. Taking inspiration from Lazarus’s Lazpod series, Get Lost events and Day Zero festival in Mexico, this is music for deserts, jungles and sunrises. Kicking off in LA, Lazarus was joined at the production controls by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Florence) as the album moved to London, and then final recording sessions completed in Mexico. The resulting album, ‘Message From the Other Side’, is a revelation. It runs the gamut from the wonderful Qawwali-flavoured techno of last year’s alternative dance hit ‘Lovers Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)’ to the African-tinged house of ‘Sacred Dance of the Demon’, dense dark ambient of ‘Inner Core’, and the bubbling depths of forthcoming single Vermillion, this is a rich and ambitious album. Other collaborations came from further afield. Hossam Ramzy, an Egyptian master- percussionist, most famous for his work on Jimmy Page and Robert Plant’s ‘No Quarter’ album laid down the amazing rhythm tracks for the Ancient Moons. ELEW (Eric Lewis), an American jazz pianist played a ‘treated piano’ in an unexpected, experimental way. Lazarus and Ford turned to Andrew Waterworth, double bassist with the acclaimed Penguin Café for the album’s lush string arrangements courtesy of Mexico’s Yucatan Symphony Orchestra. Meanwhile, Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad and Hamza Akram, are Pakistan’s leading exponents of Qawwali singing, the hypnotic sacred Sufi music that Lazarus fell in love with after hearing it on the soundtrack of political thriller ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’. They appear not only on ‘Lovers Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)’, but also the spaced out, sitar-laden ‘Amber Palace’, a piece that features the sitar work of Sidartha Siliceo, a former student of Ravi Shankar. By gathering this gumbo of music from across the globe Lazarus has created a collection that’s as happy on the dancefloor as off, a set of songs and moods that work both as an album and, when cherry-picked, as a groove that would move from Ibiza to San Francisco to the UK festival circuit. It’s also a body of work, which will be coming to life and touring when they hit the road in 2015. KEY SELLING POINTS • Extensive PR campaign by Infamous PR in the US, Freeman PR in the UK, HIM Media in France and Braun PR in Germany. • Press features expected and covers expected on in key dance & music magazines and websites. • Album produced by James Ford & Damian Lazarus in Los Angeles, London and Mexico • US Preview show set for March, and further US touring later in the year. • Extensive social media campaign by industry heavyweights K7 & NGE Digital Worldwide Radio. • UK Radio Campaign by Leo Greenslade. • Viral short films to promote the album currently being filmed, seeding campaign begining shortly. • All gig and flyers tagged. INFORMATION:
Ekoplekz delivers his third long-player for Planet Mu, and whilst the murky four-track cassette sound and dirty analogue textures are still very much in place, keen ears might spot a subtle change in emphasis. There are less of the radiophonic sci-fi sounds, ancient drum machines and none of the post-punk bass or guitar. Instead, Nick Edwards mainly focuses on invoking a blurry, saturated false-memory of the leftfield electronica that was the soundtrack to his life in the early to mid-1990s.

As the album title suggests, "Reflekzionz" is a record that unapologetically dwells on past experiences, like flicking through an old album of bleached-out photos from days gone by, and on tracks like "Downtone", with its extended, unchanging groove and wash of muted, untethered synth melody, the aim is to invite the listener to join in a state of reverie. "Midnight Cliffs" and "Saturation (Full Rinse)" are unabashed homages to the artists who inspired Edwards, but always with enough production twists and turns to ensure the results are never simply a facsimile of the originals. Opening track "A Caustic Romance" could almost be a lost AFX beat but adds a touch of hand-played naive melody that brings to mind mid-seventies Cluster, blending different eras in a lo-fi melting pot. Elsewhere there are other influences on display. "Quakers Road Skank" sounds like Raymond Scott jamming with Lee Perry at the Black Ark "Repeater (How Did It Feel?)" tips its hat to the work of indie-psych gods Spacemen 3, whilst "Seduktion" adds a touch of Kraftwerk-like metallic sheen. But as with practically all Ekoplekz records, the unifying factor is the primitive dubwise production, heavy on the filtering, echo and equalisation, never more apparent than on "Dubnium 268" where heavy layers of drone and melody crash and burn along an unstable rhythmic path. The album closes with the gentle, woozy atmosphere of "Day In May", where fragile, muted melodies drift in and out of sync on a bed of corroded drum machine, fading into the distance like a half-remembered dream - the perfect finish to an hour spent in the company of Nick Edwards at his most 'reflective'.

AMANDA FISH BAND DOWN IN THE DIRT Amanda Fish is an Indie Blues artist from Kansas City who scratched her name into the scene as a solo artist before teaming up with slide guitarist and Stone Cutters Union frontman Sean McDonnell to form the Amanda Fish Band in May 2014. The pair penned DOWN IN THE DIRT, a concept album consisting of intensely personal lyrics branching into multiple genres while still firmly rooted in Blues. Rounding out the current lineup are guitarist Cole Dillingham, bassist Cliff Moore, and new drummer Adam Watson. The band features Amanda’s spellbinding vocals alongside hypnotic, slide-heavy guitar riffs locked into a sturdy groove, giving this quintet their unique and compelling sound. “I’ve rarely heard a singer who can bring such a wide range of emotions from sweet, forlorn, strong, desperate and shattered. Her original songs are a showcase for Amanda’s soul and expression and range. I am moved.”
—BOB MARGOLIN
Amanda Fish is the latest artist to break out nationally from the fertile ground of the Kansas City music scene, which also spawned her sister Samantha and the popular (recently disbanded) Trampled Under Foot — whose former drummer, Kris Schnebelen, holds down the drum seat on DOWN IN THE DIRT. Other local heroes featured on the album include nationally acclaimed harmonica player Brody Buster, bassists Cliff Moore and Derek Tucker, guitarists Coyote Bill and Matt Peters, fiddler Jacob Hiser, and keyboardists Liam Goodrick and Tyson Leslie. DOWN IN THE DIRT is an all-original album, based in large part on Amanda’s own real-life experiences with homelessness, abuse, and dysfunction – yet ending on a note of strength, survival and revelation.

billy price and otis clay this time for real
Billy Price and Otis Clay: Two singers separated by a generation come together in a performance that moves the Southern soul tradition a little bit further up the road. Pittsburgh rhythm and blues singer Billy Price and deep Southern soul/gospel icon Otis Clay worked with masterful guitarist/producer Duke Robillard to create their first full-album collaboration, THIS TIME FOR REAL, slated for a May 19, 2015 release through Bonedog Records/VizzTone. Duke brought along his own band and part of the Roomful of Blues horn section for sessions in Rhode Island, and included veteran backup singers for the vocal sessions at Chicago’s Riverside Studios in the legendary Delmark Records Building. LISTEN: https://soundcloud.com/smalltownsupersound/sets/andre-bratten-math-ilium-ion/sgr5l0 OVERVIEW: CD, LP, Digital iNFO:
André Bratten grew up in Oslo on the border between a bustling city and a dense forest. That juxtaposition has informed his sound: Bratten skillfully imbues cosmic disco with intense cerebral techno.
TTracklisting CD: 1. Trommer & Bass 2. Yours Sincerely, André Bratten 3. The Little Things, Fools and Kings 4. Common Misconception 5. Minor Misconception 6. Intro
Tracklisting LP: A1: Trommer & Bass A2: Yours Sincerely, André Bratten A3: The Little Things, Fools and Kings B1: Common Misconception B2: Minor Misconception B3: Intro
Bratten's cinematic tendency stems from his experience as a theater score composer, while his dancier side is influenced by the Norwegian disco scene that raised him. He released his debut album Be A Man You Ant (2013) on Prins Thomas' Full Pupp label, and shares a studio with Thomas, Todd Terje, and Lindstrøm. However, rather than simply emulate these figureheads, Bratten blazed his own trail, blending disco with a grim psychedelia rarely heard on the dance floor. Though Bratten has taken the Oslo scene outside of its comfort zone, that hasn't stopped "Trommer & Bass" from becoming a dance sensation around the world. The track, originally released on a compilation by Berlin-based label Correspondant, has been played by legends like DJ Harvey and Erol Alkan, and has solidified Bratten as the dense, ominous heir to the bright disco throne. Bratten is fascinated by music that makes people feel like they're going crazy, and his first EP for Smalltown Supersound, Math Ilium Ion, does just that. The EP's complex trajectory gives it the scope of a full album — listeners are bound to question their sanity while progressing from the spacey synths of "Trommer & Bass" to the driving low end of "Minor Misconception." The slow build of the final track (deceptively titled "Intro") is so haunting, it's hard to believe we started out in such a dreamy place.

GENRE : POP FILE UNDER: “C” Circuit des Yeux RELEASE DATE : May 19, 2015 Haley Fohr’s music strikes a unique balance between the personal and universal. As Circuit des Yeux she creates music that embodies the complexity of human emotions, juxtaposing tenderness and grief, ecstasy and horror, using sounds as representations of the emotional spectrum that we all experience. Fohr’s striking voice, an impassioned baritone, is the music’s centerpiece and guiding force. On In Plain Speech, Fohr is joined by some of the most progressive musicians in the Chicago music community; Cooper Crain (Cave, Bitchin Bajas), Whitney Johnson (Verma), Rob Frye (Bitchin Bajas), Adam Luksetich (Little Scream), and Kathleen Baird (Spires That In The Sunset Rise). Fohr cements her reputation as a fearless songwriter and inventive arranger with this stirring collection of songs that are both gorgeous and emotionally potent. In Plain Speech represents the start of a new, more collaborative chapter for Circuit des Yeux. While previous works were solo affairs, not only in performance, but emotionally tied to a sense of confinement and place, these new songs were composed after a move to a collective living space, giving Fohr an opportunity to break free of the isolation that informed her previous albums. Fohr brought her community, literally, to the recording. In Plain Speech continues her collaboration with Crain, but it is her first recording with a full band, who are all leaders in Chicago’s new wave of creative musicians. Her songs, while always potent when delivered solo, shine in this new band context. Companionship and solidarity are themes woven throughout the album. “Do The Dishes” is a meditation on sisterhood, and a message to other women to take risks, follow their passions deeply and to love themselves. “Fantasize the Scene” explores the idea of eternal friendship. Extensive touring after Circuit des Yeux’s acclaimed 2013 album Overdue influenced the making of the album in several ways. On that tour, which stretched for months throughout Europe and the US, Fohr toured solo, no band, no tour manager, no driver, and in that solitude learned to commune with the audience in a way that she hadn’t ever before. That connection sparked in her mind a conversation with the audience, and many of the lyrics on In Plain Speech are directed at “you,” the listener. She also became acutely aware of disquiet, a pervasive anxiety, which permeated society in almost every city she visited. “I felt an uneasiness that superseded phonetic communication,” she writes. “Something dim is in the air, and it is looming large.” This anxiety creeped into songs like “A Story Of This World,” which is a call for change of priorities and values among the world’s leadership.

GENRE : ROCK/PSYCH FILE UNDER: “D” Dommengang RELEASE DATE : May 19, 2015
Dommengang’s music is expansive and driving. The band’s songs are propelled by a killer rhythm section and fronted by Sig Wilson, a mainstay of the Pacific Northwest psych scene. He is joined by Brian Markham and Adam Bulgasem, themselves life-long musicians and connected to the DIY scenes on the West and East coasts. While the trio’s affection for electric blues and proto-punk bombast is clear, their music abandons traditional song structures and replaces their recognizable tropes with progressive frameworks. The band’s debut, Everybody’s Boogie pivots between gloriously inventive riffs and fuzzedout experimentation, a combination so potent that the listener hardly notices that they rarely sing. Wilson has often taken the role of collaborator in bands such as Holy Sons, Castanets, and Scout Niblett, and his experience and skill are on full display on his first record as a leader. Dommengang was formed in Brooklyn in the spring of 2014. Despite the urban environment that birthed the band, each member has rural roots, stretching from Alaska to Virginia to Oregon. Like kindred spirits Pontiak, that separation from big cities allowed them to develop musically outside of pre-ordained, and many times clichéd, styles that define traditional scenes centered around big cities. The few lyrics on the album reflect a feeling of displacement and the paradoxical loneliness that comes from living in the crowded environment of New York City.

Coeds are old friends making new music. Merideth Munoz (Title Tracks, Pash) started writing songs in the summer of 2013 for Coeds after a three-year hiatus from creating music. While Ryan Kalaith was in town to visit, they laid down "Sensitive Boys" for fun in about five minutes and liked what they heard. The pair collaborated online through the fall, with Merideth in Austin and Ryan in New York. A cocktail of canned beats and sugary 80s synth lines with Munoz's effortless, memorable topline skimming over the top and driving the whole damn shebang. – Noisey

empowered new purple patch – both comfortable in their own skin and unafraid to try new things. Way before the rise in prominence of disco, house and soulful pop from the likes of Todd Terje, Disclosure or Jessie Ware, Crazy P have spearheaded the revival (and perpetuation) of these sounds since 1997. Their status as respected, vital players has maintained throughout nearly 20 years, and with the bright future of ‘Walk Talk Dance Sing’, they remain leading lights worthy of yet more recognition.

Kaz Presents:
THE TEXAS HORNS “BLUES GOTTA HOLDA ME”
It’s a crying shame that there are so few horn-driven blues bands recording today. Thankfully, The Texas Horns have been blowing audiences away on stages and on record since 1999. Now we finally get to hear them celebrate their own sound on CD with some of their closest friends in the music business. Mark ‘Kaz’ Kazanoff, John Mills, and Adalberto ‘Al’ Gomez have truly been there – done that – producing and backing a who’s who of blues, soul, and rock bands and taking their brand of fun directly to stages all over North America. These guys have held the spotlight at the big festivals in Ottawa, Chicago, and Portland. Here, Kaz plays his tenor sax and harmonica, and steps up to sing. John blows his swinging bari sax and Al wields his trusty trumpet. These guys get together in Austin to plan their gigs. This time, friends from around the area, Marcia Ball, W.C. Clark, Nick Connoly, Anson Funderburgh, Johnny Nicholas, Derek O’Brien, Frosty Smith and others made the time to help them record the CD they have wanted to put out for years now. Whether it’s bringing new life to gems like “Caldonia” or “People Get Ready”or introducing their own material – listen to “Soul Stroll” or “Kick Me Again” or “Blues Gotta Hold on Me” – these guys know how to play – romping and stomping – updating that great horn sound from the 40s and 50s. Audiences tired of long guitar solos and wah-wah pedals will be thrilled with The Texas Horns. — Scott M. Bock (from the liner notes) - Living Blues Magazine (USA) Blues & Rhythm (UK)
Kaz, John and Al - The Texas Horns - have been working together on more blues festival appearances and recording sessions than anyone can count over the last 15 years. They’ve created their spontaneous horn section magic with acts including Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, and the Allman Brothers Band -- and the list keeps growing. TTH have just released their own long-awaited CD on Vizztone Records, BLUES GOTTA HOLDA ME with tracks spanning from Chicago blues to vintage jump swing, from New Orleans grooves to rockin’ originals. The rhythm section boasts Austin blues maestros Barry “Frosty” Smith – Drums and Derek O’Brien – Guitar, and the special guest stars include Marcia Ball, W.C. Clark, Nick Conolly, Anson Funderburg, Roscoe Beck and Johnny Nicholas. Check it out, y’all! — John Mills

Philadelphia’s Oldermost will release It’s Difficult To Know Anything At All in May 2015. The five-song EP playfully revisits the heavy inquiries of their full-length debut I Live Here Now, which was produced by Jonathan Low (Sharon Van Etten, Daniel Rossen, Kurt Vile, Mr. Twin Sister), but does so by building tension both centripetally and centrifugally around the dark and whimsical center of questioning and wonder never quite arriving at any answers. The songs, produced in their Philadelphia studio, are filled with questionable advice, despairing wit, contradictions and an ever-present affinity for popular song construction. This release welcomes guitarist Mike Sobel whose lap-steel performance was featured on The War on Drugs’ phenomenal release Lost In The Dream (“Eyes to The Wind”). The songs on It’s Difficult To Know Anything At All blend influences from sources like Bill Fay and Harry Nilsson to Wilco, Jim James, and Father John Misty to create a genre-bending classical sound with warmth, harmony, and luscious reverb. Oldermost have been called "Atmosphericana Rockers" whose "sound is gorgeous and expansive, blending traditional songwriting motifs and blue-eyed soul harmonies with an uplifting and emphatically modern guitar rock attack ... with a surplus of texture and ambition, one that doesn’t recognize the self-imposed barriers you typically find in the Americana scene" --WXPN's The Key Oldermost "mix[es] pop elements with nodes of soulful Americana and alternative rock laying the foundation for Bucknum’s booming voice"--thatmusicmag.org “Envision, if you will, a few weeks from now when the air is the perfect mixture of warmth and crispness and everything seems a bit nicer and bright. Why yes, we would like to read outside, thanks. Listening to [“A Drink (Or Two)”] helps us leapfrog from the wet unpleasant right now into these sun-drenched days ahead.”--Philebrity
