The continuing success of the ‘Drive’ soundtrack – still registering healthy sales almost two years on from the film’s release – is due in no small part to French electronica artist College, whose track 'A Real Hero' (featuring Electric Youth) was selected as the main theme to the film by director Nicolas Winding Refn. With over 13million views on College's YouTube channel alone, ‘A Real Hero’ has proved to have a life beyond the film. Now Invada Records, the label behind the hit vinyl edition of ‘Drive’, are to release College’s debut album, ‘Secret Diary’, and debut EP ‘Teenage Color’, on physical formats for the first time. Fans of the ‘Drive’ soundtrack, John Carpenter, Daft Punk, Geoff Barrow's DROKK project and other analogue-synth heads will find something to love on these beautifully atmospheric records. College is the alias of David Grellier, who as well as recording as College runs the influential Valerie label, renowned for it’s retro-futurist blend of inspired electro. Grellier is influenced by American 80s pop culture, and "80s soaps and an aesthetic which I particularly like: colour, images, silvery films and the sun – images of Los Angeles, Chicago and all other cities that continue to fascinate me."
Cheyenne Mize Among The Grey
NATIONAL release date cd/LP: June 25th, 2013 Among The Grey, the latest release from Cheyenne Mize, fulfills the promise that has been evident on the two previous releases from this Louisville, KY native. Whereas Before Lately (2010) was a slow-burning, introspective, meditative affair, and We Don’t Need (2012) offered an expansion of her sonic palette that left listeners wanting more, Among The Grey stands strong as a cohesive artistic statement, once again showcasing Mize’s considerable skills as a songwriter and arranger. Sonically Among The Grey is finely polished, and flows naturally between soft and intimate, laid back and lilting, stormy and intense. Mize is equally at ease winding melodies around almost ambient shimmering atmospherics as she is belting out lines over a locked and loaded rhythm section. Lyrically, the album moves between buoyant positivity, wistful melancholy, and proud, almost angry defiance; yet all of the songs share a particular intensity of emotion. The album was recorded with Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Andrew Bird) in Louisville on the grounds of a church, which provided unique venues for capturing a variety of sounds and moods - they recorded in the gymnasium for soaring guitar tones, the sanctuary for choir-like backing vocals and huge drum sounds, and even in the basement, where they found the random items used for the unsettling percussion on tracks such as “Give It All.” Mize first introduced herself internationally on the 10" release Among the Gold with Bonnie “Prince” Billy – an inventive take on a variety of late 19th century American parlor music. After the release of her debut Before Lately (which The New York Times described as “sweet without being cloying, weary without hopelessness”), and subsequent performances at South By Southwest, Mize was chosen by NPR as one of their ten “Discoveries at SXSW 2011.” We Don’t Need followed in 2012 and served as Cheyenne’s debut on Yep Roc Records. With Among The Grey, Mize continues to solidify herself as an artist to watch in 2013 and beyond. Highlights: • National Press/Media campaign by Ever Kipp @ Tiny Human • National College Radio/Non-Comm promotions by John Hubbard @ Terrorbird • Targeted pre-release promo tour in select markets (NYC, Chicago, Nashville, LA, DC, etc), covering press, radio, and retail. • Extensive social media campaign across all platforms: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc. • “Among The Grey” video to premiered in advance of release date; second video post-release. • Extensive US tour post-release date, stretching into the Fall of 2013, and beyond. • Full color posters available for tour/retail promotions. • 180 gram vinyl LP, including full CD and full digital download. Chuck Prophet ¡Let Freedom Ring!
NATIONAL release date: Available on LP: June 25th, 2013 The studio was state-of-the-art…for 1957. Surgical masks were as common as sunglasses. Earthquakes shook the streets. This was Mexico City, 2009, the city that was the muse for Chuck Prophet’s album ¡Let Freedom Ring! Needing a vantage point outside his home country to make what he calls, “a political album for non-political people,” Chuck and his band found themselves at the epicenter of the biggest pandemic scare of the new century. Swine flu was in the air literally and figuratively yet underneath the paranoia of H1N1 lay something more, something even larger. A cultural sea change was stirring. Brought on by the democratizing power of the internet, traditionally poverty stricken youth all over Mexico City were being exposed rapid-fire to music and art that had always been hidden from them. Inspired by this renaissance ¡Let Freedom Ring! billows with primal color and sound, evidenced by Prophet’s return to the direct “two guitars, bass and drums” rock music of his past. On one hand a song cycle about breaking up but keeping it together, and on the other a political mission statement of hope, ¡Let Freedom Ring! doesn’t incorporate the music of Mexico but instead imbibes its spirit and swims in its soul. On May 28th, 2013, Yep Roc Records is proud to make ¡Let Freedom Ring! available on vinyl for the first time.
Marketing points: ● ¡Let Freedom Ring! available for first time on vinyl ● 180 gram vinyl ● Chuck Prophet’s strong history of vinyl sales ● FREE Mp3 of entire album, with bonus tracks, included ● Chuck Prophet and The Mission Express on tour in US and Europe, Spring and Summer 2013

Soul Jazz Records presents
Country Soul Sisters 2 Women in Country Music 1956‐79 Street Date: 25 June 2013
British reviews of Country Soul Sisters 1: “This superbly presented collection of songs by female pioneers in country music is a celebration of feminism.” The Times “Illuminating. Prior to any collective theoretical consensus of feminism these women were already doing it on their own terms.” The Guardian “A superb compendium of honky‐tonk women” Q Magazine “An unsurprisingly excellent emission from the imperious Soul Jazz stable.” Clash Magazine
Tracklisting
Country Soul Sisters is a second guide to the great female country singers who helped define a musical genre as artists such as Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette attained staggering commercial success in the previously male‐ dominated musical world of country music.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
As well as extensive sleeve‐notes the accompanying large outsize booklet also includes stunning photography from the Getty picture archive. The album features a stellar line‐up of classic female country artists – Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Bobbie Gentry, Kitty Wells, Wanda Jackson and many more.
6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
Female country artists fought hard for equal rights for women in their songs, their careers and their personal lives. Whilst groundbreaking artists such as Kitty Wells and Patsy Cline paved the way for female empowerment in the 1950s, it was in the 1960s that artists such as Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Jeannie C Riley and Tammy Wynette first achieved great commercial success – a moment in time coinciding with the rise of both the women’s liberation and the civil rights movements.
11. 12. 13.
As well as the slipcase CD edition there is also a limited edition heavyweight double gatefold vinyl edition complete with full sleeve‐notes and super‐loud pressing.

Item ID (cat#): IL2014 Artist: Bass Drum of Death Title: BASS DRUM OF DEATH UPC: CD 634457596122 / LP 634457596115 Release Date: 6/25/13 List Price: CD $12.99 / LP $17.99 Label: Innovative Leisure FORMAT: LP / CD / DIGITAL For Fans Of: Wavves, Nirvana, Ty Segall, Roky Erickson, King Tuff Genre: Alternative/Rock
BIO It’s been a little more than a year since John Barrett and his punk band Bass Drum of Death put out their debut album—a year that took this kid from a sleepy Mississippi hometown (where the bars close at midnight) and got him doing encores in front of 5,000 screaming Europeans and playing back-up band for Hodgy Beats and Left Brain of Odd Future on live TV. But no matter what, he always had new songs rattling around in his head, and when it was time to get them out, he did what he had to do—like sneak away from tour on an all-night detour to his home studio to start an emergency recording session, and then get back out on the road the very next afternoon. And that’s how he finished off his new self-titled album on Innovative Leisure. 2013’s self-titled Bass Drum of Death album is everything about 2011’s debut GB City amplified, in every sense of the word. With nothing but his inspiration and his instruments, Barrett spent the fall of 2012 in his studio, smashing out punk rock. This time it was just him, lots of coffee, a Realistic reverb unit to give everything just a little of that stoned-in-outer-space and for the first time in Bass Drum of Death history, a bass that he used on every new track. “surly and mischievous, a pungent, effective collision of garage-rock bashing and Ramones sneer.” - NY TIMES “noisy, garage rock that’s easy to like.” - Pitchfork “The nerve-rattling primordial beat, the gracelessly slashing guitar, John Barrett’s insistent yowl, the surf-rock backing vocals—Bass Drum Of Death knows what garage-punk buttons to press, and the Mississippi duo isn’t shy about slamming them down repeatedly throughout GB City.” - AV Club

Bottom of the World is Terry Allen's first studio release in over 14 years. There may be no greater maverick than Terry Allen in all of alt-country music. Allen is a standard-bearer of the Lubbock, TX, country scene which is widely heralded as the most progressive movement in all of contemporary country. Digging into modern-day concerns with a gutsy, liberal perspective, the Lubbock music scene still maintains a firm musical grounding in regional country and folk traditions. Allen is perhaps the most ambitious all of the artists coming out of this scene (Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore) writing complex song cycles that have been performed with the help of fellow eclectics ranging from Lowell George to David Byrne. CANDYE KANE
LAURA CHAVEZ COMING OUT SWINGIN’ FEATURING
Candye Kane believes the universe makes no mistakes. The universe has already strengthened you for the most radical endurance race of all…LIFE.
In 1983, Candye was a teenage mom from the poor side of Los Angeles. It was welfare and food stamps by day, hard drug use and nude modeling by night, while at the same time yodeling and moshing alongside groundbreaking punk bands like the Circle Jerks, X and FEAR in Hollywood’s underground music scene. To help pay the bills she appeared on the covers of Hustler and High Society, whilst peddling her cassettes of original hillbilly music to anyone who would listen along the Venice, CA Boardwalk. Candye signed a management deal with The Halsey Agency, the first agency to promote American music behind the Iron Curtain. She became close friends with Dave Alvin, Marty Stuart and Dwight Yoakum who wisely encouraged her to always be honest about her colorful past. Candye went on to record twelve CD’s on labels including Sire and Rounder Records. She built a worldwide reputation by touring 250 days a year, wrote songs that appeared on television and in movies, landed TV appearances and collaborated with numerous artists. She also penned and performed a stage play about her life called “The Toughest Girl Alive” to sold out audiences and at the New York Fringe Festival. Candye has been nominated for five National Blues Awards and has won the Best Blues Band Award in her adopted hometown of San Diego, CA a record nine consecutive times, all while raising two sons to adulthood.
STREET DATE: 6/25/13
Sue Foley introduced Candye to fellow guitarist Laura Chavez in 2007. Musical kindred spirits, Kane and Chavez were excited to start writing songs together and get out on the road, but the pesky universe had plans of its own. Candye hadn’t been feeling great, and after an especially rough pain bout she went to an ER in Germany, where the doctor on call saw a mass on her pancreas. As she looked up the cancer she had, she realized her odds of surviving were poor, and Candye told Laura she needed to find another band and get famous. But Laura insisted on waiting until Candye had her first surgery. A bright student who once considered med school, Chavez actually enjoyed researching Candye’s rare type of neuroendocrine cancer and advocated for her in and out of the hospital. As Candye started to feel better, the two celebrated by writing and recording two new CD’s and jumped in the Chevy van and hit the road. In May 2012 the cancer came back and a second surgery was performed. As soon as they could, the road warriors Kane and Chavez continued their hectic schedule around the world – from Finland to Australia to Europe and Africa. In spite of monthly injections to keep the cancer at bay, they show no signs of slowing down. Coming Out Swingin’ is Kane and Chavez’s third CD together, featuring thirteen songs, nine of them self-penned as a team. Onstage and recording, their partnership is legendary today. Laura’s versatile, tasty playing and killer tone shines throughout, and Kane is her no-holdsbarred self – telling heart wrenching stories of pain and survival, lust and heartbreak. Still the sexual dynamo she was in the 80s, she now does it as a petite size 8 but has lost none of the barrelhouse belting that made her a Bessie Smith contender. It’s as if cancer has strengthened both of these women, turning them into one powerhouse of guts and determination and one dynamic duo to be encountered, on and off the bandstand. Coming out Swingin’ – indeed!

Kid A - BB Bleu Technicolour Records is proud to present Virginia, USA based musical prodigy Kid A, and her debut single; the sensuous, ultra-modern love song 'BB Bleu'. Kid A - AKA Ann Alexander Thweatt - grew up in fertile loneliness, her imagination providing the excitement that her surroundings didn't. Discovering her grandfather's jazz collection led to a more serious delving into subculture in her teens, and she began playing with electronic loops and sounds, and developing the rich, startling voice that truly marks her out. BB Bleu was originally demoed by Kid A herself, but was picked up and properly produced by Pierre Serafini, AKA Opti. The France based producer and boss of bass music label Airflex Labs loved the original demo (included on the single) and worked on it along with Kid A's initially internet-procured mentor and musical soulmate, the French techno producer Agoria. Its sparse, icy drums and warmer, textural melodies provide the perfect backdrop for Kid A's yearning, personal musings on desire. It's like a rainy-day French blues played through modular synths and transposed into US soul. The single comes complete with a brilliant package of remixes. Man of the moment Eliphino brings his bracing take on house music to the table, providing a moodily irresistible dancefloor workout. Technicolour label mate Dolor takes things a touch more ambient, fracturing melodies and vocals and adding tentative synths and bass textures.

SPIDER BAGS —
A COLLECTION SPANNING 2008-2012
Following the release of 2009’s Goodbye Cruel World, Hello Crueler World, Spider Bags Dan McGee and Gregg Levy joined up with drummer Rock Forbes and toured as a trio in an old Mitsubishi Mirage, with Forbes crammed into the back seat alongside the band’s gear. Three of the six 45s mined for Churchkey Records’ new collection—aptly and simply named Singles—were recorded during this period of frenzied creativity. Levy has since returned to the North, replaced by new bassist Steve Oliva, and the three newest songs on Singles offer sightlines to the new line-up’s bright future. Following the long and frustrating sessions for Goodbye Cruel World, McGee took a break from working on albums and challenged himself to write and record two songs at a time, churning out what Grayson Currin described as "a slew of unimpeachable 7"s" in the Pitchfork review of the band's recent Shake My Head. Some are catchy garage rock—“Teenage Eyes” and “Walking Walking Nowhere Nowhere”—but the band also moves in psychedelic directions. “Dog in the Snow” drives ahead with a kraut-ish bass line that recalls Thee Oh Sees as McGee howls with wild abandon through dense layers of effects and reverb. “Take It Easy Tonite” goes even further. The song went through dozens of revisions before its first release in 2010 and is perfected on Singles with a dizzying sax solo from The Wigg Report’s Ben Riseling. Singles tracks Spider Bags’ evolution from roughly recorded songwriting outlet to one of the most exciting rock ‘n’ roll outfits around, and that—in addition to a slate of exciting songs that challenges the band’s proper LPs for catalog supremacy—makes it essential for any fan.

!K7 are proud to announce the next single of Will Saul’s moniker CLOSE. ‘My Way’ feat. Joe Dukie + remixes from UK based producers Midland & Dusky The new project sees Will, step away from the deeper house and bass sounds that have characterised his own discography and the influential labels Aus and Simple he has run for the best part of the last decade. Will, has slowly seeped CLOSE into the public consciousness over the past 12 months with remixes of Fink, Little Dragon and Hotflush boss Scuba (as co-produced with TANSTAAFL boss Julian ‘October’ Smith). "For me Joe Dukie has one of the best voices on the planet so it was a bit of dream come true to get to work with him. I worked with Fink in his studio in Brighton where we recorded his band (drummer and bass player) - the instrumental is all live and one take. We then sent this over to Dallas (Joe Dukie) and he sent back his vocals. Midland and Dusky are part of my core crew at Aus and really hitting their stride at the moment so natural choices for remixers for this single. I wanted Tanner to work with this vocal as I could imagine him taking it to a completely far out place." CLOSE

Legendary actor Christopher Lee releases his second Charlemagne album. “When I was approached to do the first ‘Charlemagne’ album, ‘By The Sword And The Cross’, it is heavy metal, of course, but what I sang was more symphonic. Now on the second one, ‘The Omens Of Death’, it is 100 percent heavy metal. I’ve done my bits and pieces, and they are heavy metal. I’m not screaming or anything like that, but it is definitely 100 percent heavy metal.” The music was arranged by Ritchie Faulkner, now the lead guitarist in Judas Priest. In an interview with Peter Hodgson at Guitar Talk, he said: “Yeah, that was a really interesting project to work on. Sir Christopher’s team sent me some songs that were very orchestral and symphony-based and asked me to arrange them into metal songs. Most of the songs were already there, but they needed riffs, drum parts and musical parts that reflected what the guys wanted – which was a metal record with an aim to be played live by a band”.

‘Recommended Record’ – as a title, it’s a confident statement for the band's third album, their most accomplished, instant and joyful so far; a side-step from the freewheeling jams of their previous release, leaping into a more concentrated pop-group sensibility whilst still maintaining the twists, turns and swerves that characterise the bandʼs sonic adventures. Whilst the distinctive hushed vocals and intricate guitar interplay that have become the unmistakable I.H.B. identity remain intact, a fantastic convergence and melding of new influences has emerged; from the pounding garage rock of 'Go Magic!', to the Beatles-y groove of 'Lower', to the almost Kraftwerk-with-guitars style of 'Piano Drone', displaying little trace of the homemade, zero budget recording process. Brooklyn's Selebrities return with their much-anticipated second album, Lovely Things. Known for their ability to capture the sound of neon New York old and new, the band shows a softer side to their songwriting. Tracks 'Found' and 'Fell to Earth' are pensive musings on the impact of relationships, whereas 'Temporary Touch' and 'I Could Change' are bouncier jams that Selebs' fans adore. Lovely Things is a mature and finely-tuned affair from an act that travels confidently in their lane. _______________________ “Here’s the starry-eyed, unabashedly romantic new single from Selebrities, taken from the Brooklyn group’s forthcoming LP, Lovely Things.” -Gorilla vs. Bear “Maria Usbeck sings with a crystalline longing that makes us wistful for a time when heart-swelling happy endings wouldn’t be called passé.” -FADER ____________________________ Tracks: 1) Found 2) Temporary Touch 3) Baroque 4) Wither Away 5) Lovers 6) Fell To Earth 7) Born Killers 8) You’re Gone 9) Forged To Be Broken 10) I Could Change Genre: Pop/Electronic| Catalog: CSN031 | UPC: 634457600614 | List Price: $17.99 | Box Lot: 50 | Export: Worldwide| Packaging: Single Sleeve
