Long form video being produced featuring live performances at Nowhere Farm, and videos for six songs from Meet Me At The Edge Of The World.

Following up on their critically-acclaimed release “The Long Surrender,” Over the Rhine returns this fall with the double album “Meet Me At The Edge Of The World.” The band has again teamed up with Grammy®-winning producer Joe Henry to record timeless and vivid songs with striking harmony vocals. The sprawling project was mostly inspired by Linford and Karin’s pre-Civil War brick farmhouse and acreage in rural Ohio, lovingly referred to as Nowhere Farm. The band recorded nineteen songs with a fantastic collection of backing musicians and a lovely guest appearance by Aimee Mann. With Over the Rhine’s signature mix of fierce beauty and contemplative lyrics, this album transports the listener to the rich soil and natural splendor of Nowhere Farm, a place to leave the edges wild, and rest awhile, a place that feels strangely like home…

“There may be no more soothing voice in music than Karin Bergquist’s. She could be interpreting jazz standards, but fortunately she applies that balm to her and husband Linford Detweiler’s beautifully languid originals…” – ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY “Karin Bergquist is a singer unparalleled in her subtle twists of emotion. Her voice has the power to stop the world in its tracks.” – PERFORMING SONGWRITER “Karin Bergquist may be the finest singer on the alt-country / Americana scene right now, striking the perfect balance between earthy sensuality and ethereal grace.” – THE NEW YORK TIMES

Austin's own Reckless Kelly return with their 8th studio album, "Long Night Moon" (No Big Deal Records) on September 3, 2013. The album is the follow-up to 2011's Grammy Nominated "Good Luck & True Love," which took home four Lone Star Music Awards, and sent three singles to #1 on Texas Radio. Produced by band members Willy & Cody Braun, along with Lead Guitarist David Abeyta, Long Night Moon was mixed by Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris), and features additional instrumentation from legendary steel guitar player Lloyd Maines, as well as Bukka Allen (piano, organ) and Jeff Plankenhorn (dobro). Working singles from the album include “The Last Goodbye” (August 2013), “The Girl I Knew,” and “Be My Friend (In Real Life).” In addition to the CD and digital versions of the album, a limited edition, 180-gram audiophile vinyl pressing will be released as a two-record set. Reckless Kelly has spent seventeen years cementing their place in the Americana/Roots Rock genre. The group is known for their explosive live shows and a passion for making albums of substance. Long Night Moon is no exception to this rule.

Crag Taborn, Dave Holland, Kevin Eubanks and Eric Harland (l-r)

Dave Holland In the 40 years since Dave Holland’s recording debut as a leader with his landmark recording “Conference of the Birds” he has produced a remarkable series of recordings documenting his musical journey. For “Prism”, his latest recording, he’s assembled a quartet of outstanding players and composers who are also leaders in their own right, Kevin Eubanks on guitar, Crag Taborn on piano and Fender Rhodes and Eric Harland on drums. The recording is representative of the wide range of musical references that these musicians incorporate into their music and it features compositions written by each of them for the group. The album takes the listener through many musical landscapes starting with the infectious funky groove of the Eubanks’ composition “The Watcher” followed by one of Holland’s compositions, “The Empty Chair”, a soulful blues that hints at references to the music of Jimi Hendrix. Craig Taborn’s “Spirals” creates an intriguing setting for the group that moves through a series of dramatically changing musical developments and Eric Harland’s hauntingly beautiful composition “Breathe” provides a musical space that seems to suspend time. The groups of Dave Holland have always reflected a collaborative spirit with the goal of creating a musical context that allows the musicians to express their creative individuality. “Prism” brings together four musicians who are each forging their own musical path and together have created a unique and contemporary musical statement on this recording.

Artist: Jackson & His Computerband Title: Glow 9.3.2013

WARP238

Overview When Jackson emerged from the lingering disco after-smoke of the ‘French Touch’ scene that nurtured Daft Punk and Phoenix amongst others, Paris and the rest of the world were changing. Slowly and methodically, strands of music were moving from warehouse raves into the global mainstream and at the time of his debut Smash, in 2005, he and his Computer Band embodied the bleeding edge of this transition. And then all was (mostly) quiet. Soon, the jacking, distorted party jams of the Ed Banger crew echoed through Paris’ boulevards, Phoenix grew into one of the pop bands of a decade and dubstep’s steroidal cousin laid siege to America as Daft Punk’s robotic silhouettes emerged once again. The heady, symphonic futurism of Jackson’s music whispered around the edges of it all, but Jackson had gone deep into the bowels of Paris to sculpt a new master work and remained out of the limelight…until now.

Format: Vinyl Boxlot: 12 Price: $25.99 Packaging: 2 x LP in Gatefold Sleevewith download code - First print with vinyl foil cover

Jackson returns with a seething romantic electro orgy, GLOW. From an adolescence spent in thrall to hardcore techno, and spanning a lifetime love of classic pop and the unclassifiable funk of Prince – this epic, schizophrenic, sexual, psychotropic saga could only have come from the mind of one person.

GINKGO Manopause

9/3/13

Ginkgo is the new project from Tapes ʻn Tapes singer and songwriter, Josh Grier. Manopause, Ginkgoʼs debut record, was written, recorded, produced, and played by Grier. Jeremy Hanson, Tapes ʻn Tapesʼ drummer, adds live and programmed drums. ”Manopause was 33 years in the making. The first 31 years I spent in pre-production. The last two years I spent writing, recording, playing, in solitude, in a basement, on a lake, unemployed, at home, with friends, feeling old and straight winginʼ it,“ says Grier. “Manopause is a musical time capsule to my future self, so I remember to chill out, enjoy life, and let my freak flag fly.” While the subject matter may be deep and introspective, Manopause moves with an upbeat, visceral energy. It bounces from the futuristic and fiery, ear glue of "Faded Glory" to the driving, fist pumping, heart break of "Ride It Out". "Moped Song" is breezy like a summer day, while "Bitte Meddler" floats freely until finally exploding in anthemic slop. Grierʼs introduction to the world was in 2005 with Tapes ʻn Tapesʼ critically acclaimed debut The Loon, which would eventually be re-released by XL Recordings in 2006. With Tapes ʻn Tapes he has also released the Dave Fridmann produced Walk It Off, and 2011ʼs Outside, mixed by Peter Katis. Grier and his band reside in Minneapolis, MN.

JENKS MILLER

SPIRIT SIGNAL

The multifaceted, tireless Jenks Miller turns his composing and guitar-shredding talents to his first widely distributed solo album Spirit Signal, an experimental LP totally of-amoment, as each track was conceived, tracked, and mixed in one day. As fans know, Jenks Miller’s talents run deep and wide: his band Horseback deftly amalgamates black metal with a southern, sprawling atmosphere while Mount Moriah, a collaborative effort with singer Heather McEntire, delivers rich, tender country-rock ballads. The markings of both are present in the expressive, impressionistic Spirit Signal, which hits stores in September and will be supported by a slew of solo shows around Jenks’ already busy schedule with Horseback and Mount Moriah.

Grey Reverend's music has been bubbling under as a jealously guarded secret for those in the know for a little while now. Fortunately, his sophomore album ‘A Hero’s Lie’ threatens to expose his raw musical power to the rest of the world. Collaborator and label mate J. Swinscoe (The Cinematic Orchestra) will release the album on his Motion Audio imprint this summer. Fresh from his stunning, highly charged turn on Bonobo’s North Borders, L.D Brown’s musical catharsis is ready to be unveiled. Music is the Brooklyn based Brown’s way of connecting to the world, and ‘A Hero’s Lie’ is about as direct and profound a connection as is likely to be found in contemporary music. Like his influences and the artists he’s often compared to – Elliott Smith, Jose Gonzales, Ray Lamontagne and Will Oldham – Brown’s work is raw both emotionally and musically. Often consisting simply of his rich, enthralling voice and distinctive, percussive guitar style, his songs are enhanced with bluesy piano, organic electronic accents and textural elements. Opener ‘Everlasting’ ensnares the ear with its driving, plucked melody and yearning vocal. The listener is immediately enveloped by the album’s atmosphere - as invigorating as an autumnal breeze. 'My Hands' crooning vocal is instantly classic, and feels all the more valuable for the rarity of its approach. ‘This Way’s’ tentative, timeless melody and deceptively simple lyric give way to soaring, elemental textures that defy the brain not to generate the most vivid accompanying images. ‘Only One’s’ vigour recalls Brown’s admiration for Elliott Smith, and the latter’s ability to walk the fine line between huge psychic uplift and beautifully expressed despair. The Payoff is an emotional centrepiece; a meditation on the passage of time and co existence that’s startlingly affecting. The album's atmosphere is also informed by the loss of Brown's close friend and collaborator Austin Peralta, who tragically died in 2012. Peralta's stunning piano playing can be heard on The Payoff. ‘Little Jose’ – the album’s only instrumental, and a sequel to 'Little Eli' from Grey Reverend's debut album – is a finely picked guitar solo written for Jose Gonzales. The short, sweet song unmoors the listener completely before dragging them along in its glorious, swirling current. Brown decided to produce ‘A Hero’s Lie’ himself, playing percussive elements, keys and a homemade mellotron as well as his signature rhythmic, raw guitar. The decision has paid off in spades, perhaps enhancing the cohesive sense of the album and its internal logic and recurring themes. This is an album that has been put together with the utmost sincerity. As a result, it is really, seriously good. A collaboration between The Fleshtones and Mary Huff (Southern Culture on the Skids) has been a long time coming. After meeting at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA years ago, the two bands began crossing paths in studios and via their record label, Yep Roc. In October of 2012, both bands descended on Carrboro, North Carolina to participate in the Yep Roc 15, a celebration of the 15th year of operation of their record label. The bands slipped off to Rick Miller's (Southern Culture on the Skids) local studio where Mary lent her vocals to "For a Smile" and "Everywhere is Nowhere." The result is a 7 inch single that Peter Zaremba (The Fleshtones) thinks should be called "Mary Huff and The Fleshtones." Ditt Inre from Stockholm craft finely tuned electronic pop that perfectly captures their city’s severe Scandinavian climate and its precise creative output. Undeniably stylish, the music has a sense of exoticism and mystery, as reflected in the angelic vocals of singer, Hampus Klint. Following a successful EP in 2012 that was highly praised by culture critics around the world, and a single which debuted with Pitchfork and closed the year for Cascine, Ditt Inre returns this fall with their debut full-length album – an intelligent listen for discerning music fans. ____________________________ “Ditt Inre continue to mine the silken synth tones and carefree bounce left behind by Air France.” -Pitchfork ____________________________ Tracks: 1) Introduktion 2) Vi kommer aldrig bli som er 3) Paradiset 4) Utan dig finns ingenting 5) Genom skogen (Passage 1) 6) Inget Val 7) Formulär 1A 8) Det händer nu 9) Tystnaden 10) Kulörta lyktor (Passage 2) 11) Blodburen (feat. FACTOR WOKE UP ALONE

FFINC 046 : FACTOR WOKE UP ALONE RELEASE DATE: JULY 23, 2013; VINYL LP’S SEPTEMBER 6, 2013 Swiss-American psychiatrist and author Elisabeth KüblerRoss first hypothesized the five stages of grief in her 1969 book, On Death and Dying. When faced with death or its corporeal equivalent, an individual often moves through turbulent emotional stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Nearly a half-century after the theory’s introduction, Saskatonian super-producer Factor has assembled an all-star cast of Fake Four family and friends to explore the phenomenon through the tale of a man losing his wife and attempting to raise her from the dead. Woke Up Alone, a necromancing play told in five scenes, begins with our grieving protagonist, played by Kirby Dominant of Paranoid Castle, struggling to grasp the grim meathook reality of a dead wife. Four lush and mournful instrumental interludes woven throughout and bookending Woke Up Alone capture the emotions of the widower as he speaks with his wife’s ghost, a false prophet, a doctor, a psychiatrist, a medicine man, his own conscience and the devil. Following the success of Factor’s compilations Chandelier and Lawson Graham, the beatsmith embarked on a concept record in the vein of A Prince Among Thieves and wound up with the melodic, complex symphony of Woke Up Alone, mixed by Factor himself at his home studio and featuring roles played by Ceschi, Open Mike Eagle, Onry Ozzborn, Myka 9 and Astronautalis. Factor’s relatable allegory, scored by swirling synths, samples and live instrumentation, extends well beyond necromancy, as multitudes upon multitudes have gazed haphazardly in the rear view mirror and tried to resuscitate that which is irreparably gone.

LORN 'DEBRIS' Following the release of his critically acclaimed album 'Ask The Dust' back in 2012 Lorn returns with 'Debris'. An EP pieced together in one sitting, combining field recordings, synths and guitars all run back and forth through tape and 'burnt through analog valves.' As Lorn explains 'I wanted the tracks to physically sound like they were picked out of some wreckage, some lost caravan out in the desert with a crew of zero.' 'Debris' is crunching and brutal but never less than beautiful electronic music.

JONO McCLEERY 'BALLADE' Following hot on the heels of Jono McCleery's underground hit, 'Fire in My Hands', comes latest single and companion piece 'Ballade.' McCleery's meld of electronic music's glitch and texture and his melodic guitar mastery is truly approaching perfection. Its gentle, melancholic melody dancing over tough-edged drums and bass. McCleery's rich, musing voice soars over the music beautifully. Fans of his recent work will not be disappointed in fact, the song is everything they'll have hoped for. The single remix of 'Ballade' comes from Djrum, who reworks the song into a brooding dancefloor piece, replete with deeper than deep melodic touches and an addictive swing. It's a perfect partner to the original.Â

HELENA HAUFF 'ACTIO REACTIO' Helena Hauff is a DJ and producer from Hamburg, Germany, where she runs a club night called Birds and Other Instruments at the Golden Pudel Club. Helena's sound as a DJ can't be nailed down as she cuts between genres with ease. Dirty Acid, Chicago, Electro and Wave mixed in an obsessive way, as you can hear on Blackest Ever Black's sub label Krokodilo Tapes, where she released a limited edition mix tape, 'Obscure Object'. As a producer this obsessive nature comes across in the intensity of her music. Actio Reactio is a mesmerisingly raw record, capturing the essence of Helena's conceptions. She works in an analogue world where most of the tracks are recorded in a single take. Helena has also created the video for the lead track. To complement this release, 'Reaktion' is a mix which showcases the music that she loves and that inspires her. "i could explain the name of the record and the tracks, but i don't really wanna. i wanna leave that to the people, i want them to make up their own ideas about it... " ( Helena Hauff speaking about the release in June 2013 )

BOBBY BLAND ANGEL IN ANGUISH: THE DEEP, DEEP SOUL OF BOBBY BLAND LABEL: FINGERTIPS FINGERCD05 / 809236180520 / DIGI CD $14.99 Bobby Bland, the Tennessee-born singer who rose to prominence in the late ‘50/ early ‘60s scored over 50 hit singles and 23 Top 10 hits on the Billboard R&B charts. This essential collection includes all the tracks from 1961’s “Two Steps from The Blues” plus a selection of sides from the late 50’s and early 60’s, remastered from the original sound. Sleevenotes by Dave Henderson of Mojo. Bobby Bland is Mr Soul. He’s James Brown before James Brown, he’s the plaintive cry of lonesome Ray Charles. And yet on the swinging hip-shaker "Don't Cry No More", he's the impassioned Godfather of Mod. Musically the songs straddle a shaky line between jazz and blues and Bland’s emotive delivery, whatever the tempo, became one of the very first soul voices – a distinctive, rich and engaging tone that was filled with life’s sometimes bitter experience.

The songs on this compilation form a cohesive mix that allows the vocal to weave its spell . They’ve been specially selected from countless 45s to create a seamless soundtrack of one of the great soul voices.

The album features a widened family of Arabrotcollaborators, most notably Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh) who in addition to recording and mixing the album, also plays bass. Norwegian experimental stalwarts Lasse Marhaug and Erland Dahlen also feature heavily. The lyrical content follows familiar Arabrot patterns, taking inspiration from surrealists like Georges Bataille and Robert Desnos, mixed with a fascination for the mythologies of ancient Greece and the Old Testament.

BEATLES BEGINNINGS VOLS. 4 & 5 History Of R’n’B Records present the next two volumes in the series that investigates the Beatles’ early influences and the cover songs they loved to perform. Both come as jewel case CDs with 28-page booklet with track-by track commentaries and essays explaining the significance of the songs to the band. A must for any Beatles fans who are interested in finding out more about what inspired them and what shaped their musical sensibility, these CDs are also a fun, uptempo listening experience in their own right. The Cavern Club CD finds the Fab Four broadening out to include Latin-influenced songs, uptown R&B and dance craze numbers along with more rock’n’roll, rockabilly and easy listening items. The Star Club CD covers the period between Ringo Starr joining the group and the start of Beatlemania in early 1963. It brings together pop, R&B and early soul records that the Beatles had in their live set in 1962.

RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 20TH

New Zealand band Surf City’s forthcoming album continues their love affair with psychedelic, reverb-swathed guitar pop, drawing from their Flying Nun forefathers The Clean & The Chills, as well as the fuzzed-up dream pop of The Jesus & Mary Chain and the loopy noise of Animal Collective. This time round the songwriting is stronger, the tunes are hookier and the sound is even more lush. Recorded in snippets around the world, this is their second to be released via Fire Records. Arch Hill put out their debut album Kudos domestically in 2010, before it was released worldwide by Fire . The album enjoyed plaudits from the likes of Stereogum, who praised their “impressively assured sound” and “perfect 2-minute pop storm.” Pitchfork noted that “their punky psychedelic pop is impressive” and admitted “Surf City’s pleasure for pleasure’s sake approach already has me pining for more.” The band toured the US and NZ/Australia before taking a brief hiatus until Davin moved to New York, where he found a basement studio in Chinatown and began to work on the new album. He soon realized that the Big Apple wasn’t really for him (revealed in the song “NYC”). He returned to New Zealand and continued recording. He soon found himself in South Korea and far removed from everyone he knew. Filling so many of his late nights and early mornings with recording additional vocals and guitar parts in his apartment, the paper-thin walls would eventually cause the neighbours who lived upstairs to move out. During this time Davin was listening to a lot of Bob Dylan, Scott Walker & Leonard Cohen, who all coloured the lyrical style that appears on the album. In many ways it’s a sad record, reflecting the loneliness and introspection that can occur whilst traveling and spending a vast amount of time alone on buses or trains or in airports with these legendary songwriters on repeat. Musically, the band have developed their signature reverb-heavy fuzz rock in to something more gutsy whilst retaining a keen ear for melody to create some unforgettable tunes.
