“A triumph” – GQ “Gorgeous, hovering apparitions” – NY Times Upon releasing their lauded album Yellow House, in 2006, Grizzly Bear – comprised of singer/songwriter Ed Droste, drummer Christopher Bear, bassist/woodwinds player Chris Taylor and singer/songwriter/guitarist Daniel Rossen – have become one of independent music’s most internationally-renowned talents. After the critical success of that album, 2009 saw the release of Veckatimest, which debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 and sold nearly half a million copies around the globe. These two break-through albums are being made available now for the first time on 180 gram, heavy-weight vinyl.

Renegade English soul-rockers The Heavy are happy to announce the release of their new album, The Glorious Dead, on August 21 via Counter Records/Ninja Tune. The Glorious Dead is the band’s third full-length LP, and the follow-up to their acclaimed sophomore record The House That Dirt Built (2009). Self-produced and with their unique, raw eclecticism fully intact, it’s their most fully-realized record yet, mixing together soul, hip hop, rock, blues and funk into glorious, raucous party music that is equally full of heart. The first single from The Glorious Dead, “What Makes A Good Man,” was snatched up by Miller Beer for a national ad campaign (featuring the band in a dressing room cameo). The song follows in the footsteps of the band’s sleeper hit “How You Like Me Now” with its monumental chorus and crunching beats. But there’s more to the album than just that, from the horror film atmospherics of “Can’t Play Dead” to the laid-back sincerity of “Curse Me Good,” the funked-up hip hop rhythm of “Big Bad Wolf” and the epic, heavy-hitting gospel rock ‘n’ roll of “Same ‘Ol.” Throughout, vocalist Swaby’s voice soars, packed with yearning and pure soul. Along with the release of The Glorious Dead, The Heavy are pleased to announce they will be bringing their crazy, amped up live show to the US this June with a handful of shows beginning June 18 at New York City’s Mercury Lounge and concluding with two straight nights at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. The band will also be playing shows in Los Angeles and Chicago, and in the coming weeks will be announcing a full September tour. They are also slated for a performance in September at Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival. THE OLD CEREMONY
FAIRYTALES AND OTHER FORMS OF SUICIDE NATIONAL RELEASE DATE: CD/LP 08.21.2012 Django Haskins of Durham, NC’s The Old Ceremony wants to cut the crap. He has no more patience for idealized love songs that seep into your blood like sugary cereal, leaving you tired and empty. In fact, he finds them harmful. With his band’s new album, Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide, Haskins’ artistic awakening reaches full flower. More than any of their past records, Fairytales coheres around a central theme: of awakening to the world as it is and learning to see the beauty in its harshness. Meditations on love (“Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide,” “The Royal We,” “Day That I Was Born,”), politics (“Sink or Swim”), and scientific progress (“Star by Star”) all return to this central theme, as does the haunting “Beebe, Arkansas,” based on the bizarre phenomenon of 5000 blackbirds dropping dead on a small town overnight two years in a row. It is an album of late night reckonings, punctuated by hopeful blasts of sunshine. And for lovers of classic songcraft, it is a gold mine. Fairytales and Other Forms Of Suicide is also The Old Ceremony's first album on North Carolina’s Yep Roc Records. The folks at Yep Roc have gained a well-earned reputation for recognizing and nurturing timeless songwriting, from Nick Lowe to Robyn Hitchcock to Paul Weller, and an attentive listen to the new album shows The Old Ceremony sitting quite comfortably in this esteemed company. With their new album, the textures and moods that have become a calling card for The Old Ceremony arrive with unusual clarity. Haskins’ focus may partially be the result of his other recent pursuits: he has spent much of his downtime in the past two years working on two non-fiction book manuscripts, excerpts of which have been published in respected literary and culture blogs and weekly arts newspapers. At first glance the two projects, a biography of Haskins’ Titanic survivor great-grandfather; and a sprawling tour memoir/urban history tract that tries to make sense of four cities that TOC frequents; may seem completely unconnected to Haskins’ songwriting career, but in fact, they all deal with similar themes. “I’m interested in the uses of mythology, whether it be a family mythology or a city’s mythology, and how it can obscure reality in harmful ways,” Haskins says. Thus, Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide is the product of a tireless, obsessive search. Comparisons to fellow-travelers of dark, cinematic meditations like Cohen or Waits are no longer necessary, for The Old Ceremony has forged its own distinctive sound to accompany Haskins’ songs. It is the sound of seeking: for new textures, for hidden corners of experience, for a flash of truth in an otherwise confusing world.

FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE
FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE & UTOPIA PARKWAY NATIONAL RELEASE DATE: LP: 08.21.2012 Fountains of Wayne self-titled debut and the follow-up, Utopia Parkway, laid the foundation for the band’s reputation as masters of power pop, or as The Dean of Rock Critics, Robert Christgau, put it, “full-fledged art heroes”. These two albums are considered classics of the genre. Fountains of Wayne contains the standouts “Radiation Vibe”, “Sink to the Bottom”, “Please Don’t Rock Me Tonight”, as well as the ode to the suburban commuter, “Sick Day”. This is the first time Fountains of Wayne has been on vinyl since its initial release over 15 years ago. Utopia Parkway, available on vinyl for the first time ever, features, “Red Dragon Tattoo”, “Denise”, and, “Laser Show”. PITCHFORK described the album as, “suburbia perfectly captured by four suburbanites with suburban sounds.” And what better way to experience that sound than on viny!

THE MAYFLIES USA SUMMERTOWN LP
NATIONAL RELEASE DATE:
LP: 8.21.12
If you know anything about Chapel Hill, NC, you know how instrumental a front porch can be. Ideas are generated, plans are made, songs are written, life is romanticized and yes, beers drunk. Coming together by way of California, Saudi Arabia, Holland, LA, New York and Baltimore, The Mayflies USA called Chapel Hill their home. And all of their time spent on the porch helped them form their version of rock music- it bounces with infectious melodies, glides with summer-y harmonies, sings with romantic lyrics and pops with loud squalling guitars. Available for the first time on vinyl, Summertown is the band’s debut LP, produced by Chris Stamey, who assured that the sound of this album was reminiscent of the power pop predecessors that clearly inspired The Maylies USA.
Summertown is "r-o-c-k like they don't make anymore, in love with early Eagles and Bob Welch, in bed with Wilco but dreaming of the Replacements and Pure Prairie League and proud of it."
- SPIN Magazine "Shimmering, jangly guitars, killer hooks, and lush harmonies all bolstered by a strong beat are the order of the day on this promising addition to the 90’s pop renaissance."
- PopMatters Great songwriting, nifty guitars and layered vocals that I think they stole from a spare tape in Brian Wilson's bedroom. . ."

BAILTER SPACE — STROBOSPHERE FIRE RECORDS CD: FIRECD269 / 809236126924 / $17.99 LP: FV269LP / 809236126917 / $28.99 The return of New Zealand/New York legends Bailterspace, who offer up their best album to date with their first new recordings in 13 years. 'Strobosphere' emerges at a time when the band's trailblazing sound has never been more relevant. Revered as one of the loudest and most intense live bands of all-time, they haven't lost any of their bite or their love of tone, dissonance, and melody. They won praise as "the Sonic Youth of the Southern Hemisphere" with several Melody Maker singles of the week. Relocating to New York brought about greater harmonic exploration whilst their Flying Nun and Matador releases established them as a distortion-led tour de force. After announcing a hiatus, the band never truly stopped working together, occasionally sneaking out to play an unusual show and building a stockpile of ideas, they way they always done. However, finding the urge to record too great, they dove back into the studio and produced a record of power and beauty that could only come from Bailterspace. 1. Things That We Found 2. XIU XIU I LUV ABORTION (DEERHOOF MIX) / JOEYS SONG (KID 606 MIX)
BAD PAINTINGS 7”: BR7002 / 5055300350664 / $7.99 Following on from the album Always earlier in 2012, this release features remixes of two tracks from that album - a Deerhoof (Greg Saunier) remix of I Luv Abortion and a Kid 606 (Miffy) remix of Joey’s Song. The remixes released here push these influences to their limit. Greg Saunier of no wavers Deerhoof has produced a discordant, intricate and passionate rework of I Luv Abortion. As with his own band’s work Saunier has injected a sense of sugar into this dark tune - as Jamie Stewart announces “the restrictions is gone,” you can’t help but feel that Saunier is playing this off against the earlier lyric “little sweetest glob.” Miffy’s Club remix uses classic 80s sounds to turn Joey’s Songs’ already celebratory tone into something darker but equally full of ecstasy. The pounding kick / snare rhythm, bitcrushed synths and de-tuned leads drive towards a brutal climax - when the quasi-orchestral break comes half way through the song it feels like a beautiful relief from the bittersweet joy of the rest of the song.

We're very pleased to be releasing four brand new songs on this EP by the recently reformed CASE. Following on from their compilation album from last year which brought together all their original early recordings. It's limited to 500 copies on white vinyl. CASE formed in Croydon in 1979 after being introduced to each other by Slimy Toad from Johnny Moped. Case played the pubs of south London and finally released their one and only 7”, the ‘Wheat From The Chaff’ EP in 1983, it reached the top of the independent charts and led to them being played heavily on BBC radio including plays by John Peel, Janice Long & Kid Jensen. Originally, in 1980, CASE played primarily at a (fairly rough) pub in North Croydon, called “The Star” and built quite a following there before larger, occasionally more salubrious, venues beckoned. They famously played at The Rainbow in November 1981 - where smoke flares and buckets of maggots flew into the crowd as the band played, the Marquee Club (where they were banned for playing an encore – the only band to be banned for this since the Rolling Stones), Hammersmith Palais, 100 Club, the BBC Paris Theatre, ICA, & the Woolwich Tram Shed (and Chislehurst Caves!) amongst other less-prestigious venues. With better management who knows where CASE may have ended up – as it is - they retain a legendary status among the legions of punk/ska fans...and graffiti historians. Back in 1981 case had a vociferous and die-hard following who, in substantial numbers, took to daubing the walls with graffiti championing their support for the band. These expressions of support for the band are now the stuff of social commentary – see, for example, the New Cross item at transpont.blogspot.com. Something about CASE seemed to attract fanatical fans, several claiming to have seen every gig, since the early days in Croydon, and one in particular who, whilst working in London, spent his lunchtimes visiting public toilets all over the city - unrolling the rolls of toilet paper and writing CASE on each sheet on the roll, with a biro, before rolling them up again. These were strange times. Track listing: A1 – Why Would I Hurt You (All Ways), A2 – Fight Fight Fight, B1 - Circus, B2 - Daddy's Remembering

Debut single from French 3-piece electronic garage band, The Jimi Ben Band. Based in Lille, France, they came to our attention having played with Thee Spivs. We strongly suggest you YouTube the video to experience the full majesty and psychedelic majesty of the band. Once upon a time, Jimi Ben found himself lost in the jungle. He had been wandering in South East Asia for years and could find no way out. One night he was cruising for dirt and love, he got struck by sexedelic visions emerging from the red lights of go-go bars. An inner baboon voice told him: “Jimi ! Bad is good for you. Why don’t you set up a Rock’N’Roll band ?” That’s exactly what he did. Back in his hometown (Stockton, Northern France), he was taught by long time friend Ricky Love how to play power chords on a guitar and recorded a first LP demo on a 4 tracks tape recorder in his kitchen. In December 2009, Johnny Boom (drums) joined Ricky Love (bass, vocals) and Jimi Ben (vocals, guitars) for their first show and further DIY tape recordings (Monkeys In Da House EP – 2011). Mainly influenced by American Garage bands, 60’s British Beat groups, Surf Music, Punk Rock and New Wave, these slackers like it rather cheesy, danceable and fun. The Jimi Ben Band started as a lo-fi garage trio. Since then, they have performed about 40 shows in France and Belgium and developed a degenerate style based on energy, coconut vocals and great amounts of reverb. They have made it quite clear that they wanted nothing but having girls dancing at gigs. Track List: 1. Royal Baboon 2. Monkeys In Da House

descriptive text
Holland's Nihill are one of the few bands in current circulation to which some of black metal's most common musical descriptors actually apply. Theirs is music of a truly relentless, cold and unforgiving nature, one which offers little or nothing in the way of relief or comforting melody. Though their albums are often punctuated by stretches of near silence or hushed ambience set between walls of frenzied blast and pummeling churn, these lulls serve to bolster the threatening whole in their absence of recognizable musical footholds. The winding paths laid by their music may be lightless, but the journey down them is one well worth taking.
Verdonkermaan is the third installment of a trilogy that began with 2007's Krach, and delves further into the churning cosmos as mapped out by its predecessors. Opener "Vuur - the Deathwind of Resurrection" serves as a devastating introduction to the album, replete with scalding washes of caustic guitars, and a howling backdrop that threatens a continual consumption of the foreground without ever fully taking over. Downshifting in tempo, but not in intensity "Spiral - The Taileater" brings the listener fully into the shadowy fold, with a hypnotic combination of cascading single note bends and insistent low end throb. From this peak of maximal force, through the dizzying cycle that closes out the album, many lines are cast into the pitch, but all remain firmly tethered to a dark hearted center. It's precisely this ability to transverse a multifaceted terrain without ever losing course that give the album its undeniable potency and obsidian allure. Considering Verdonkermaan unto itself, as well as the trilogy of which it belongs, it's readily apparent that Nihill have established themselves fully and firmly with these stark and ferocious musical proclamations. While their efforts are clearly built on the foundational pillars erected by the early founders of the genre, they have added their own singular and acidic tongue to the modern lexicon of black metal. Though self imposed obscurity is the proud badge of many who've tread this particular realm of sound, the existence of Nihill and their freshly completed trilogy should not be overlooked by those who seek to stare longingly into heart of darkness.

Sold out on vinyl for many years the 1994 self-titled debut from Tortoise is finally back! This 2012 edition has been remastered to vinyl by Roger Seibel at SAE Mastering. The packaging emulates the original with a chipboard jacket that was custom silk-screened by Dan Macadam at Crosshair in Chicago. Also included is an insert and a free download coupon. Tortoise’s self-titled debut incorporates many musical styles and influences and combines them into one very distince sound. So distinct that sometime after the release of this record they became recognized as the leaders of a new musical movement. Tortoise exploits the recording studio, in that they utilize the recording process as a compostional tool or “sixth member”, thus creating a boundless parameter in which to create music. Recorded at Idful Studios by John McEntire. For this record Tortoise is Douglas McCombs John Herndon Dan Bitney John McEntire Bundy K. Brown
As part of our 20th Anniversary re-issue campaign we are happy to offer Sam Prekop’s 1999 self-titled debut on vinyl again. Pressed on high quality virgin vinyl and including all original artwork - a fully artworked inner sleeve and for the first time a download coupon! Sam Prekop’s self-titled debut is a study in pop nuances. Simultaneously transporting the listener from mild climes and swinging palms to darkened skies and wind blown steppes, the record will be easily recognized by fans of The Sea and Cake. Known to many as the singer and main songwriter for said group, Mr. Prekop is assisted on this release by Chad Taylor (Chicago Underground Duo), Josh Abrams (ex-Roots, Town and Country), Jim O’Rourke (Gastr del Sol) and Archer Prewitt (The Sea and Cake). Sam and his band blend West African rhythms with a bit of soul, jazz and pop. The resulting record is something wholly original, elegant and earthy. A cauldren, if you will, of sweet smelling and enlightening stew. So line up, grab a spoon, and dig in. All the ingredients and intoxicating aromas necessary for an auditory feast are contained within.

The 1996 album from Directions features the trio of Bundy K. Brown (Tortoise, Pullman, Gastr Del Sol, Bastro), Doug Scharin (Codeine, Rex, June of 44), and James Warden. To some this may be a lesser known classic in the vast Thrill Jockey catalog. This 2012 vinyl re-issue is pressed on high quality virgin vinyl and includes a free download coupon for the first time. The album consists of eight instrumental songs recorded in the Spring of 1996 at Idful Music in Chicago. Although the sessions were largely engineered by Bundy Brown, all the members of the group took part in the recording process at a variety of levels. Likewise, the songs were composed in the studio, or significantly realized through the recording process. Bundy, James, and Doug began the recording with several musical elements as the ”root” of the songs. The ”roots” were then taken and collectively developed into the versions presented on the record. The developement was a natural result of the group’s improvisation stemming from their exploration of texture, rhythm, color, and harmonic interplay.
Tortoise’s 2004 album It’s All Around You is back on vinyl as part of our 20th anniversary vinyl re-issue campaign. Pressed on high quality virgin vinyl and packaged in a high gloss LP jacket with artworked inner sleeve and download coupon. Written largely in the studio, It’s All Around You was crafted over the course of a full year, and allowed Tortoise the use of John McEntire’s Soma Electronic Music Studios (whose clients have included Wilco, Stereolab among others) in serving not just as a state-ofthe-art recording facility, but as a compositional tool as well. It took months of continuous writing, recording, tinkering, mixing, and perfecting to bring It’s All Around You to it’s finalized state. Tortoise are one of the only bands of their size and status who have always produced their own records, and it’s largely because of this that they are able to achieve and maintain such a distinct and precise sound. The band’s extensive knowledge of the studio’s equipment and their ability to feel at home without a restrictive deadline allowed them to explore a multitude of approaches in the composing, editing, and coloring process of their compositions. The results of this process are clear in the lush, orchestrated tones, intricate melodies, and densely elaborate rhythms These songs build deliberately and consistently, amassing music of great detail; exploring their layers is both exciting and infinitely rewarding.

Following 1997’s album The Fawn, The Sea and Cake took some time off to pursue their solo interests and returned three years later with Oui in 2000. The LP version is back as part of our 20th anniversary vinyl reissue campaign. Pressed on high quality virgin vinyl the LP edition comes with a free download coupon. Recorded at the 24 track SOMA Studios, Oui is a leaner, more pared down recording than The Fawn. The band recorded straight to tape using contemporary technology, such as pro tools, for editing rather than manipulation. After laying down the basic tracks, the vocals were done at Sam’s house and then taken back into the studio, syncing them up on the two-inch machine. Sam states that his writing technique remained the same, “most often relying on accidental combinations, or lyrical dissonance to get ideas started. I search for words, ideas that somehow resonate with the piece of music and I tried to come up with a stronger melodic presence vocally. Our goal was to sound like a band recorded live in a studio, (and) pretty much, that’s what happened.” Oui is a pop album. From the opening measures of “Afternoon Speaker” to the serendipitous nature of “Everyday,” Oui is a graceful recording of elegance, revealing its charms quietly and continually upon each listen.
One Bedroom was released in 2003 and followed Oui. The LP version is back as part of our 20th anniversary vinyl reissue campaign. Pressed on high quality virgin vinyl the LP edition comes with a free download coupon. The Sea and Cake’s sixth album, One Bedroom, is elegant pop. Membrane-like layers of electronic tones and delicate synthesizers surround intricately woven guitars. Melodic bass lines punctuate these restrained and complex sounds. Songs are propelled by imaginative percussion lines and shaped by spare warm vocals. Prekop’s lyrical style is poetic as opposed to narrative. Paradoxically, the resulting album of delicate precisely constructed songs sounds effortless. One Bedroom is a beautiful collection of creatively constructed and singular pop songs. Choice analog synthesizer tones driving the vocals are brought far more forward on One Bedroom than previous Sea and Cake recordings. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the record comes in their version of Bowie’s ”Sound and Vision.” The version remains faithful to the original yet has the distinctive Sea and Cake stamp of creatively and precisely placed tone and color, delicate guitar touches, and driving rhythms. Prekop’s warm vocals are filled out by the baritone vocals of the Aluminum Group’s Navin brothers. One Bedroom gracefully illustrates why The Sea and Cake stand quietly alone in pop currents.

CONSTANTS pasiflora After releasing the heaviest album of their career with 2010’s If Tomorrow The War (produced by Justin K Broadrick of Jesu/Godflesh), Constants’ fifth studio album Pasiflora reveals a very different side of the band, this time with an emphasis on shoegaze and an almost retro-sensibility. Whispering vocal harmonies, walls of chorused synths and booming Peter Gabriel-esque drums coalesce into an album landing somewhere between M83 and Mew. Simply put, Pasiflora might just be their best and most creative release yet. Late last Summer, with nine years, four critically acclaimed albums and countless international tours under their belts, the members of Constants began to feel pigeonholed into the “post-metal/post-rock/post-whatever” scenes. So they set out to write an album that would redefine their already genre-bending sound from the outset, but it wasn’t until drummer Rob Motes presented a batch of bedroom demos that the new album really began to take shape. The group scrapped 6 months and 10 songs worth of material to embrace the vibrant and textural sound that would become Pasiflora. “We aim to surprise people with every record and like to work outside of our own safe zone as much as possible. The challenge is to shape the result into a clear, consistent album,” says guitarist/vocalist Will Benoit. “We’re genuinely excited to have found something fresh at a point in our timeline where most bands become stagnant.” Pasiflora was self-produced in Benoit’s Radar Studios (Junius, Caspian) – New England’s first and only Solar-Powered recording facility – and co-mixed by Daryl Rabidoux (Bad Rabbits, The Cancer Conspiracy). The album will see a release worldwide on July 24th, via The Mylene Sheath.

GENRE : DARK AMBIENT/DRONE/AMERICANA FILE UNDER: “C” Caminiti, Evan “B” Barn Owl RELEASE DATE : August 21, 2012 On Dreamless Sleep, Evan Caminiti (also known as one half of NO EXPORT guitar duo Barn Owl) creates a lush and misty atmosphere with this TRACK LISTING: collection of hazy, half-remembered sound portraits heard through a veil of static and hiss. The dense tracks are an evolution in terms of Caminiti’s compositions, musically referencing devotional hymns, Berlin-school epics, and cinematic westerns. The pieces began as guitar and synthesizer recorded to cassette 4-track and were deconstructed and rebuilt over a year after being recorded, resulting in rich orchestral swells and disorienting manipulation of the source material.
1. Leaving the Island 2. Bright Midnight 3. Symmetry 4. Fading Dawn 5. Absteigend 6. Veiled Prayers 7. Becoming Pure Light
“The first version of the album - a kind of rough draft - was completed SALES POINTS in San Francisco during Spring of 2011 before leaving on an extended tour that found me traveling without a home base for a period of Evan Caminiti is one half of the San Francisco duo Barn 10 months. Upon returning to San Francisco and settling again Owl. Dreamless Sleep is his debut solo record for Thrill in the Winter of 2012 I approached the material in a completely Jockey different way, changed by a year of travel and new challenges. It was Evan Caminiti has previously released solo material on deconstructed and reformed into a different album than what it had Three Lobed, Immune, Handmade Birds, Digitalis, Trensonce been, echoing some of the themes I wanted the songs to reflect mat, and Students of Decay initially - the way our memory changes events in the past and how our surroundings define us.” CD version comes in a 4 panel mini-LP style gatefold Sourced entirely from guitar, album opener “Leaving the Island” manipulates the instrument through a series of electronics extending it’s octave range and embellishing it with various effects to call to mind sounds of bells and choirs. On “Symmetry” tape hiss washes over blissful synthesizers and fractured fuzz guitar broadcasts in black waves while distant chanting shakes the foundation. In this manner, tape hiss is frequently utilized as a musical element through shaping it into lysergic rhythmic washes and amniotic drones. On “Absteigend”, analogue synthesizer hovers around mantric guitars and obscured vocal samples turned into percussive slaps that sound like bursting steam vents. The album is in constant flux between light and dark, from dirge like crawls to uplifting choral harmonies, creating a narrative unlike anything Caminiti has offered before. “drone done not only well but also with concision and purpose…a sheet of luminous noise– neither harsh nor pretty, it remains, always, in motion, cycling into an eerie, gorgeous quiet before it can outlast its welcome.” -Pitchfork “a master of cavernous guitar…blues for a scorched earth, evoking the kinds of dystopian futures found in Cormac McCarthy and Marcel Theroux novels.” – Altered Zones “Caminiti takes the ideas of deep space and echoed tones as something to place guitar directly into, with drones aiming at a hushed, moodily peaceful place” - All Music

GREGORY PEPPER A N D H I S P R O B L E M S
ESCAPE FROM CRYSTAL
SKULL MOUNTAIN FFINC040 : GREGORY PEPPER AND HIS PROBLEMS ESCAPE FROM CRYSTAL SKULL MOUNTAIN RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 21, 2012 It started with a single drawing in Gregory Pepper's notebook. An ominous, triangular mountain made of geometric shapes, vaguely resembling a skull. He started drawing lots of them, carelessly and quick. Someone asked “what is that thing you keep drawing” and he confidently replied: Crystal Skull Mountain. A bleak and desolate place, cold and sharp as anything. In early 2012, it was decided that this would be the setting for the new Gregory Pepper & His Problems album, coming August 21st on Fake Four Inc. Much like the drawings ofFake crystal skullInc. mountain, with the it's Four Much like maniacal grin: the music is detailed though drawings offkilter, morose enthusiastic, of crystalbut skull mountain, everything all at once. A native of Guelph, Ontario, Pepper was acclaimed for his 2009 release With Trumpets Flaring, which was hailed as “conceptually minded and very, very clever”1. Some even pointed out that, “Pepper taps into the demented genius/ ambition of Brian Wilson for his orchestral pop songs, which are headscratchingly great"2 and that “this is an intelligently crafted pop album”3. But while Trumpets was experimental and admittedly lo-fi, Escape From Crystal Skull Mountain is more boisterous and confident, meticulously arranged and produced. Moreover, it features killer performances by Toronto-area musical dignitaries, hand picked from the ranks of Bry Webb and the Providers, Ohbijou, Cuff The Duke, Do Make Say Think, and The Niagara Symphony Orchestra. This new record is another step in Pepper's ongoing pursuit of classic pop filtered through a modern lens, deliberately more focused in it's aesthetic than any of his past releases. Elements of power pop, jazz, chamber music and garage rock are fused by infectious melodies and ornate vocal harmonies. Add that to ample brass and string arrangements atop an aggressive rhythm section with most of the 17 songs flowing seamlessly into one another, and you have an album that demands to be played on repeat.

A new musical adventure from Tim DeLaughter (The Polyphonic Spree) and Philip E. Karnats (Secret Machines)
preteen zenith - rubble guts and bb eye Street Date: Aug 21, 2012 Genre: Psych Colored Prism Frenzy Tim began writing and demoing songs at home in Dallas in February 2009, with the intent of merely documenting new ideas. He continued the process in New York City that summer by subletting a small apartment to get away, as it were, and focus. He wound up recording the ideas on his laptop, and shared some on his blog (thefragilearmy.blogspot.com). Enter Philip E Karnats, a longtime friend and former bandmate from Tripping Daisy who went on to play Street Date: with the Secret Machines and Ike Reilly and release a solo 08/21/2012 album through DeLaughter's Good Records Recordings Artist: label in 2006. Phil happened to invite Tim to Chicago just PRETEEN ZENITH to hang out and do some improvising and recording. Title: Tim was excited by the idea. "It had been a long time coming," RUBBLE GUTS & BB EYE DeLaughter says. "We'd had several conversations over the recent years about doing something together. We had no idea of what we'd do, but I was definitely looking forward to it!" Track Listing: Initially, the idea was to record and improvise and see what 1.
