With Hermann on piano/vocals and Ewing on acoustic guitar/ vocals, Missing Cats sees its founding members shifting from their usual fare (Hermann is longtime keyboardist of Widespread Panic, and Ewing is a singer-songwriter who has drawn comparisons to Keith Richards and John Prine for his solo work,) towards a more full-bodied alternative rock/blues/Americana sound, with lyrics that are cinematic and stories that are rich in character-driven details. With the release of the new album, Hermann and Ewing celebrate their long relationship, and invite both their long-time and new fans along for the ride. Missing Cats has confirmed a U.S. tour for this fall, as they join North Mississippi All Stars for a series of co-bills. A full itinerary will be announced in the weeks ahead.

PRESENTS
FAC. DANCE 02 Fact or y R eco r d s 1 2 ” M i x e s & R a r i t i e s 1 9 8 0 - 1 9 8 7
On September 4th, Strut unleash the second album in the ‘Fac. Dance’ series bringing together sought after 12” versions and rarities from Manchester’s revered Factory Records imprint. Despite a reputation for austere post-punk modernity and raincoated miserabilism, the label’s first decade featured a raft of landmark dance records, primarily brought to the label by Rob Gretton who valued tunes and beats over Situationist dialectic and experiments in popular art. Meanwhile, Tony Wilson dismissed pure dance music as lacking intellectual rigour and, as such, this collection of early Factory dance sides occupies a compelling middle ground. Revisiting the peerless studio work of Martin Hannett, Peter Hook and BeMusic and DoJo productions by Bernard Sumner and A Certain Ratio’s Donald Johnson among others, Fac. Dance 02 explores Factory’s unique forays into dance music and widens the spectrum yet further from the first volume. The early version of A Certain Ratio’s angular funk classic ‘The Fox’ rubs shoulders with Cheba Fadela’s Algerian rai blast ‘N’Sel Fik’, Bologna band Surprize features alongside the dub and reggae stylings of The Wake and X-O-Dus and the Manchester-New York axis weighs in heavily once again with John Robie’s seminal mix of Cabaret Voltaire’s ‘Yashar’ and the sparse post-punk funk of E.S.G. FAC. DANCE is compiled and annotated by James Nice of LTM, formerly label manager of Factory Benelux. The CD and LP packages feature extended track notes and rare photos from the Factory archives.

EROL ALKAN
ANOTHER ʺBUGGED OUTʺ MIX & ʺBUGGED INʺ SELECTION At the end of 2006, Erol Alkan was at a crossroads. He’d been voted DJ of the year by Mixmag. He’d made landmark, expectation-defying remixes for bands he loved: a crunching “glam racket” reworking of ‘Do You Want To’ for Franz Ferdinand, a wonderfully wistful reinterpretation of Hop Chip’s ‘Boy From School’, a psychedelic take on Scissor Sisters’ ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancing’ and a genre-defining reworking of Justice’s ‘Waters Of Nazereth’. He was about to close Trash, the Monday night indie disco that had somehow morphed into the most adventurous, influential and glamorous club night in the world without changing its attitude, musical philosophy – or ever charging over six pounds on the door. Other triumphs lay a little further in the past. In 2006, he supported Daft Punk for their live return at Global Gathering at their own personal request. The year before, he did the same for Madonna at Koko in Camden with a DJ set which she used as an intro tape on her subsequent world tour. In 2002, he’d lent some muscle to another icon, creating the bootleg of ‘Blue Monday’ and ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ that Kylie performed at the Brits in 2002: the culmination of a craze for “bastard pop” hybrids he’d been instrumental in creating alongside long-term kindred spirits Soulwax. Then there were his DJ sets at clubs and festivals around the world, in which Erol’s unerring instinct for playing the right record at the right time brought hardened clubbers and alternative music obsessives together in abandoned celebration of brilliant music. Though he started DJing in dance clubs in earnest in 2001 after being invited to play at Bugged Out, Erol still considers himself an outsider in that scene. “Unfortunately, I never had that seismic moment of hearing someone like Carl Craig DJ in ’96” he says. “I feel as passionately about the Manic Street Preachers as people in dance music do about Kraftwerk. That’s where my DNA is different, which I’m really happy about, because that’s the thing that’s hopefully made me different to other DJs.” Erol has started playing epic annual sets every Easter at Bugged Out – 2012’s was nine hours long. “I was slightly disenchanted by the way support DJs would play like they were playing Wembley to 10,000 people,” he says. “I wanted to build an evening through the music and be able to be my own support. This way, I bought complete freedom to proceedings, as anyone who came would be aware that I would play across my entire musical spectrum, and it would differ to a usual 2 hour set.” All 1,200 tickets sold out in advance. After his hugely successful Bugged Out mix from 2005 he’ll be dropping his 2nd Bugged mix this summer. A wide selection of music, with both sides featuring music from 4 decades. An impressive effort indeed!

Sondre Lerche Bootlegs National Release Date: CD/LP: 09.04.2012 After twelve years of being disappointed by professionally recorded live shows Sondre Lerche had almost given up on trying to capture the rawness and chaos of his performances. But hearing this live show recorded in his hometown of Bergen, he knew his sound engineer Erik Freding had done it—“this is as close to the feeling of actually being up there on the stage as I’ll ever get on a record,” Sondre. And so in honor of his 30th birthday and after ten years of recording albums, Mona Records is proud to release the first official live Sondre Lerche album Bootlegs.

Mission of Burma's new LP 'Unsound' is out now on Fire Records. As well as touring the States in September, the band will be playing a free show at Prospect Park on August 3 with Wild Flag and Ted Leo as part of the Celebrate Brooklyn series. To mark this momentous event, Mission of Burma will release a special, limited edition, tour only, split 7" with Wild Flag featuring album tracks from both artists, "What They Tell Me" by Mission of Burma and Wild Flag's "Boom". Unsound is the Mission of Burma's sixth full-length album - their fourth since their improbable reunion in 2002 - and it has earned 4 **** from The Guardian and Mojo, and 8/10 scores from NME and Uncut. Reviews have noted the band “sound as electrifying, as curious, and as awake as they ever have,” (Mojo) and that the album is "a punk-derived mix of brains and muscle, as obsessed with angles and time-shifts as battle-cry choruses." (Pitchfork, 7.7). Wild Flag is a Portland, Oregon- and Washington, DC-based quartet consisting of Carrie Brownstein, Rebecca Cole, Mary Timony, and Janet Weiss. The members of Wild Flag have played in numerous and notable bands including Sleater-Kinney, Helium, Quasi, The Minders, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, and others. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2011 on Merge Records (US)/Wichita Recordings (Europe). Tracks: Side A – What They Tell Me (Mission Of Burma) Side B – Boom (Wild Flag)

-- Voted Atlantaʼs best Soul Band 2 years in a row by Creative Loafing-“Itʼs about time that this band put their feet on the ground all around the globe. They have positive messages and music that needs to be heard by the masses.” Bill Elder, Gemco Records
“Itʼs About Time,” a long overdue full-length album from Atlantaʼs Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics brings on an arsenal of soulful original music and poignant lyrics. The album features 10 original songs chiming in at just over 40 minutes in length, recorded on 1/2ʼʼ 8 track tape by producer and keyboardist Spencer Garn. Fronting the 7 piece powerhouse band is Ruby Velle, a Canadian born little lady of southern influence and East Indian decent, whose voice and appearance often surprise people when they hear and see her live for the first time. Leading the pack is “My Dear,” a powerful back-beat soul groove that sets the tone for the record and teases the listener to hear more. Then the track “Medicine Spoon” drops into a fast paced funky drumbeat, perfect for sampling as the genre known for. Through out the album there are medium and fast paced songs with tasteful horn arrangements and full string ensembles featured on “The Agenda” and “Mr. Wrong.” Itʻs About Time the bandʼs foray into political commentary, offers an epic and enormous sound mixed with meaningful, timely lyrics. Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics' roots are embedded in the rich sound and history of Georgia soul, beginning with the early 50's and 60's R&B that became so well known around the world. Having performed countless gigs since their inception, and with a slew of 45rpm singles already under their belts, the band has already contributed heavily to the steadily increasing awareness of genuine rhythm and blues music that exists today. They pack clubs and festivals with their original brand of soul, all of which is written and recorded in Atlanta. Overview
Artist: Clark Title: Fantasm Planes "Gorgeous ... arresting" - NPR
9/4/2012 WARP333
“Flits between idiosyncratic synth warble and dreamy folk pop” –SPIN “Playful and elaborate mind-bender” –KCRW Chris Clark has been on a journey. The adventure started three years ago after the release of previous album Totems Flare. He recorded Iradelphic in Australia, Berlin, Wales, Brussels, Cornwall, Norway and London using a diverse range of tools - from the vintage to the cutting edge modern. A producer known for his dark, heavy techno-derived sounds on the Warp roster, Iradelphic saw a transcendence to Clark’s most accessible album to date, with first time mentions in NPR and Spin magazine. Clark stood up from the drum machine, computer and keyboard to learn piano and guitar. Taken from the Iradelphic sessions Clark announces the Fantasm Planes EP, a six track 12” releasing September 4th. A counterpart to Iradelphic featuring variations on album tracks as well as completely unheard gems, one of which is the title track which was premiered on KCRW in June. Fantasm Planes sees Clark exploring the harder, more dancefloor orientated side of his work, which coincides with his live sound to be showcased across the US this September.

When Toddla T was asked if he fancied the label commissioning producers for a remix album of “Watch Me Dance” he had a much better idea. He asked two legends of the Sheffield underground music scene – Ross Orton and DJ Pipes to agitate, smash and rebuild his album in the manner of the scene that shaped his sound. Toddla met Pipes when he was a wide eyed teenager working in a skate shop in Sheffield. Pipes a roughhanded bass hooligan was resident at Scuba and the infamous Kabal parties whilst masquerading as one third of the Desperate Soundsystem with Pulp’s – Cocker and Mackey. Orton and Pipes bonded with the young Master T over a shared love of Dancehall and subterranean bleeps. A renowned designer as well as DJ – and instrumental in the Sheffield underground music scene for well over a decade – Toddla has described Pipes as his number one inspiration. Orton, meanwhile, in between working on the Toddla T records, was a member of Fat Truckers, the drummer for Jarvis Cocker and, as the Cavemen (with Steve Mackey of Pulp) wrote and produced MIA’s “Galang.” He has also remixed and produced everyone from The Kills and Kelis to Tinchy Stryder and The Arctic Monkeys. Together the pair have taken Toddla’s record and agitated it with the essence of Sheffield bass culture – running from a dub reggae take on “Fly” through a bleep-tastic version of “Take It Back” and taking in everything in between – a true Steel City re-work of the original album that goes much further and has way more coherence than a series of unrelated remixes. NINJA TUNE / BIG DADA NEW 12" RELEASES FOR SEPTEMBER 4TH MR SCRUFF - 'BE THE MUSIC' Mr Scruff is deep. He is deeper than Lake Baikal. Deeper than Plato. He’s deeper than James Cameron’s submersible. Scruff is deeper than the conspiracy to shoot John F Kennedy. Way deeper than your deepest thoughts after smoking your biggest, packedest doobie-woobie. Deeper than Borjomi. He is, it almost goes without saying, deeper than the deepest feelings you’ve ever held for another human being. He is deeper than the recession, deeper than your deepest, darkest fears. He makes the Mariana Trench look like a scratch on the surface of a finely polished coffee table. He’s so deep you can see him from space. What we are saying is, Scruff is DEEP. “Be The Music” and ”Nervous Energy” eschew Swami Scruff’s cheeky sampling of yore and in its place put rock hard rhythms built up into driving polyrhythmic dancefloor mania. “Be The Music” combines them with a kind of digi-dubbed b-line while “Nervous Energy” is built round what sounds like a classic funk riff played as all-over body-wobble. The results in both cases are hypnotic, powerful, hugely danceable and packed with so much understanding of funk and modern music that they burst with it. In particular, Scruff knows as well as anyone out there, that not doing too much is the key to doing just enough. And that, my friends, is wisdom.

WILEY & MARK PRITCHARD 'SCAR / MONEY MAN' The founding father of grime and one of the UK's most charismatic, enigmatic rappers joins forces with one of electronica's leading lights. That's right; Warp Records' Mark Pritchard has produced two tracks for Wiley, and they're absolute stunners. Pritchard also provides a remix of Money Man under his Harmonic 313 alias, and Big Dada have put together a beautiful limited edition 12" to capture this rare and wonderful set of tracks.

LORN - 'WEIGH ME DOWN' Taken from his critically-acclaimed second album, “Weigh Me Down” is a perfect exemplar of the way Lorn combines smeared, spooked atmospherics with rhythmic drive and melodic strength.Voiced by Lorn himself (his voice warped and treated until he sounds like a terrorist phoning in a threat), the tune starts built out of found sound before exploding into a driving beat and waves of falling chords. First remix out the blocks comes from Illum Sphere, who removes some of the rhythmic relentlessness and focuses on the beauty in the vocal before wobbly bass fucks with your equilibrium. Now based in NYC, Glaswegian Mike Slott laces together a skipping, clever rhythm, pitches up the vocals a little and gives the whole thing a surprising soul-jazz tinge. Sometime fellow Brainfeeder labelmate and LA resident Mono/Poly, meanwhile, goes for rumbling bottom end, pterodactyl cries, bubbling keyboard lines and a psychedelic emphasis on sonic atmospherics. The package is rounded out by a “no verse” version of the original, where the chorus is left on its own and no more knives have to be watched as they’re sharpened!

BOBAN i MARKO MARKOVIĆ GOLDEN HORNS
THE BEAT GENERATION
Selected by DJ ROBERT SOKO/BALKAN BEATS
"Boban i Marko Marković Golden Horn' album is a boisterous best-of selection gleaned from their physical & digital sales, YouTube views, radioplays, synch & other licensing hits. Without doubt it's an essential part of my repertoire for BalkanBeats dance floors worldwide.” DJ Robert Soko "These genuine Gypsy Kings turn on a dime effortlessly, their melodies sustained on the air like hovering strings or respiring like a celestial organ. Europe and Asia collide and myths as well as music are thrown skyward by this natural & cultural upheaval. They are not only the best brass band in all of Serbia (having won the golden trumpet in Guca enough times to be disqualified from competing further), they may well be the best brass band on the planet." Alastair 'Dr. Rhythm' Johnston, www.muzikifan.com Marković and his son and prized protégé Marko are the true champions of Balkan Brass dance music, harnessing the absolute flexibility of Miles Davis and the cool funk of Herb Alpert in the ultimate expression of their Southern Serbian Roma roots. This compilation unites their best tracks selected by BalkanBeats expert and innovator DJ Robert Soko. The selection portraits the outstanding story of a musical family and the unique relation between father and son, between legendary tradition and unknown future of Balkan Brass music. Boban's decades of experience are now fired by Marko's youthful vibe-an energy sustained by marathon practice sessions and a lifetime spent with dad on stage.

GABBY YOUNG & OTHER ANIMALS THE BAND CALLED OUT FOR MORE GIFT OF THE GAB—GOTGR0012CD/ 0609788880004/ $17.99
Written by Gabby and Stephen Ellis, who also produces, this 13 track work represents a giant sonic step forward. Its colourful avant-garde sound, with lush orchestration, horns and quiet melodies, exudes the best bits of music hall, burlesque, 1920s flapper music, Nouvelle Vague cinema and torch songs The slower tracks stand out particularly: The Answer’s In The Question’s incessant analysis of a relationship; the contempla-tive trumpet-tinged ‘Honey,’ Gabby’s personal favourite and, most impressively, ‘Male Version Of Me’, a quiet accordion-tinged paean to finding a soulmate. But fear not, there are hoedown moments aplenty too: ‘Horatio’ is one such, and clos-ing track ‘The Band Called Out For More’ sees Gabby morph into some crazed Edith Piaf. ‘Segment’ opens quietly before building into an almighty strings-charged Arcade Firestyle workout, whilst the album’s masterpiece is the serpentine ‘Neither Beginning Nor The End’, a spinetingling mid-tempo classic, complete with operatic flourishes, before an abrupt finish leaves the listener needing more. Gabby Young’s twisting roots have carried her and that stunning voice from her native Wiltshire to land with a bang at the centre of London’s music scene. The youngest ever recruit to the National Youth Choir at the age of 12, Gabby was on track to become an opera singer until Jeff Buckley and the jazz greats inspired her to switch teams. In 2008 Gabby formed the 8-piece band who complete the magical musical fairground we know today, using a wide range of instruments, most notably trumpet, trombone, piano and clarinet – affectionately dubbed Circus Swing by those who realised there was no existing genre to encompass Young’s sound. It was crowd-funding her first album that really put her on the map.

SUE DENIM— AND THE UNICORN SUPERHEALTHY / CD / SH001CD / 5055300354723 / $17.99 And The Unicorn is the first solo album from Robots In Disguise's Sue Denim, released on Sue's own label, Superhealthy. Recorded and co-produced in North Wales with award-winning producer/mixer David Wrench . And The Unicorn presents a mixture of simple and honest tracks that are less typical singersongwriter and more nostalgic pop - sometimes reminiscent of a female Syd Barrett, Jonathan Richman, or Kevin Ayers. Musically, And The Unicorn is based around acoustic guitar and piano, with Sue's voice sounding natural, dynamic and intimate. She uses her bass skills to sweet dubby effect on the opening track, 'Bicycle', and plays Velvet Underground style violin on 'I'm Not An Island'. Added to this are electric guitars, massed percussion, layered harmonies, and during recording breaks Sue cycled around Anglesey & Bangor making field recordings, sometimes referencing the lyrics of the songs - rain in ‘Hollow’, a walk on the pier in ‘The Plan’ - and sometimes less literal, more mood-inducing - ticking clocks in ‘For JT & Carson & Emli’.
Tracks : Bicycle, Brewster McCloud, I'm Not An Island, Hollow, Superunicorn, The Pleasure Gardens, For JT & Carson & Emli, Pick Me Up, Walking Into Walls, The Plan.

A John Peel favourite from the early eighties, TV Smith's Explorers never quite made the big time, but just listen to this album... they really had something! Forget the patchy production and mediocre musicianship, this is the thinking man's punk. Traversing the extremes of emotion from depression ("The Unwelcome Guest") to ecstacy ("I Am Your Servant"), this album is suffused with a timeless vigour. Now with 9 bonus tracks 1 The Perfect Life 2 The servant 3 Have fun 4 Walk Away 5 The Last Words of The Great Explorer 6 I live for Everything 7 Imagination 8 The Easy Way 9 The Unwelcome Guest // Bonus Tracks : 10 Tomahawk Cruise 11 See Europe 12 Looking down on London 13 A World of my own 14 Walk in a straight Line // Live Bonus tracks : 15 The Servant 16 Last words of the Great Explorer 17 Walk Away 18 Looking Down on London
January 1983 saw TV Smith reunited with ex Advert Tim Cross to record Channel 5 . War Fever was earmarked as the first single but at the time the country was fighting a General Election with the card of the Falklands war victory played by the ruling Conservative Party, and as a result the single vanished without trace. By the time the album emerged, the record label Expulsion was teetering on bankruptcy and thus the album bit the dust and was one of the worlds lost treasures until re-released on CD by Ozit Records in 1999. Now with 7 bonus tracks. Tracks : 1 A Token of my love 2 On your video 3 Dominator 4 London Beach 5 War Fever 6 Burning Rain 7 Fire in the darkness 8 Cracking up 9 Your haunted heart 10 The Suit 11 Beautiful Bomb 12 Coming Round 13 Woodpecker 14 Lies 15 Treasure

As a prelude to his second album for Hyperdub, due in September, 'Dark Crawler' sees Terror Danjah drop punchy, manic beats and claustrophobic stabs on this bloodthirsty grime banger, with grime’s original London Warlord Riko Dan spitting patois menace. On the B side is the bubbler 'Fruit Punch', Terror’s energetic, 8bar take on funky, which - by contrast - adds some fun to the militant proceedings. With a tight, rolling drum tattoo tearing across the mix, and a tropical melody sharing space with a bulldozer of sub-bass, it's a case of opposites attract. Tracks: A. Dark Crawler B. Fruit Punch

Yet another great pop single, this time from Brisbane's enigmatic synth pop songstress Scraps (AKA Laura Hill). Hill's entirely electronically composed music is as caked with pregnant intrigue and damaged beauty as an attic-found crazy glued together figurine. Laura wears her obsession with 80s synth rock on her sleeve, citing The Human League, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and Devo as influences. The 80s loom large in her subject matter as well. Lead track 1982 is a love/tribute song to all the machines that didn't get the girl in movies like Short Circuit and Electric Dreams, where the machines are much more interesting than the men.
