How did you personally get started in the music industry?
My background lies mostly in the visual arts. Strictly speaking, my first encounter with music as an industry was when I worked as a set designer at a German music television station, aged 19 — creating bespoke spaces for interview situations with popular artists; possibly one of the most underappreciated lines of work in an industry that was mostly off-putting. But I didn’t mind as I was young and mostly left to just doing my thing inspired by the music itself, which had always been my best companion for as long as I can remember, and it still is. I do recall the occasional exception, where kind folks like Beck — surrounded by manikins in a completely neon room — would take note and comment on my contributions in that they felt like they were sitting right inside of their record, or when Bootsy Collins wanted to purchase the star-shaped sofa I designed off the station, which was pretty surreal.
When and where did the label begin?
The company was founded in London on February 5, 2007 to be precise. But it all began online really.
What is the meaning behind the name for the label?
In this digital age where everything is recorded and can usually be undone, there’s actually something really quite beautiful and poetic about the sentiment that nothing lasts forever. To me Erased Tapes expresses perfectly how precious every moment is, that fine line between something existing or not existing.
How has the label changed since it started?
In the beginning it was mostly a virtual space in that most of us, artists and audience alike, connected over the internet in the age of MySpace and SoundCloud. I’d skype with Óli in Iceland during sleepless summer solace nights or exchange ideas over email with World’s End Girlfriend in Japan when all of a sudden an earthquake hit his room. And so some artists I would not meet in real life until months, sometimes years later. And it wasn’t until around our 5th anniversary tour that it all started to feel like a proper physical community, as we’d get the chance to experience and make music live together in a shared space. The community around the label has grown exponentially since, with us taking over the BBC Proms in 2015, opening our own event space in 2017, hosting recording sessions with all artists participating and collaborating with each other, and most recently curating our 15th anniversary festivals in London, Berlin and beyond. It’s those moments when we get to witness and share experiences with others that form the soul of the label.
What has been the biggest challenge for you and the label during the Pandemic?
My main focus went towards strengthening our publishing arm in order to help sustain our less established artists who struggled with the lack of live performances, not to mention the psychological impact the loss of connectivity had on their creativity.
Is the label tied to a specific geographical area? How is this reflected in your releases?
Even though most of us are based in London, we still feel equally at home in Berlin where we had a satellite office at times, and we have a strong connection to Tokyo, Montreal, New York and L.A. due to the presence of external team members there. In the early years some people even thought that the label was Reykjavík-based, simply because of the success of a specific artist or our repeated presence at Iceland Airwaves. And that strangely also feels accurate, because in truth the label started online, born out of a subterranean bedroom with artists joining from all around the world, and most of our output being instrumental with no language barriers. Which explains why we have such attentive, beautiful audiences in all corners of the world, for which we are eternally grateful.
Where do you go to search for new music? Who or what has been a new find you’d like to rave about?
One of the most important elements to my work is that I maintain the freedom to explore the unknown at a natural pace. I have to make an active effort to protect that antenna. Which is why I prefer to discover sounds without any set method in place. I like to experience music live, especially site-specific, local music when traveling, and then bring all these new discoveries back with me to share with others. Not necessarily through the label but also via my radio show that I’ve been doing for more than six years, or simply by playing records to my artists and friends. My most recent discoveries were at Le Guess Who? in Utrecht which is a fantastic artist-curated and very diverse festival. I’m still processing it all… My other favourite festival is Big Ears in Knoxville through which I re-discovered The Art Ensemble of Chicago joined by Moor Mother, which resulted in us releasing their 50th anniversary album. I also love nothing more than to sit down with a friend and listen to whatever they are excited about.
Is there a genre that you would consider to be the label’s “signature style,” or is it a mix?
Erased Tapes is and will always be a genre-defier.
We know you can’t choose, but what’s been your favorite label release, and why?
Well if I had to choose, it’s most likely going to be one of the collaborative projects. Our 10th anniversary recording project 1+1=X comes to mind, or Trance Frendz by Ólafur and Nils due to it being mostly improvised, less over-laboured and more spontaneous with very unexpected results for all involved. Because following each other into the unknown is often the most exciting dance, and the whole is usually greater than the sum of its parts.
In your opinion, how important is it to be environmentally sustainable within the music industry these days?
We’ve been making a conscious effort to avoid any unnecessary use of plastics from day one, opting for cardboard sleeves over jewel cases, often using recycled paper stocks. It’s so important to encourage mindfulness in regards to both physical and digital music consumption, because a lot of people aren’t aware of the consequences.
How important are issues like mental health and social justice to you and the label?
Giving each other a safe space to be and express ourselves is one of the most important things we can do to contribute to a better world.
They say our sun will explode in about 5 billion years or so- how would you like the label to be remembered?
One of my favourite things is to forget. It gives an opportunity to rediscover it all over again from a slightly different point of view. And isn’t that beautiful?

J ames Newton’s 1977 self-released solo-debut, ‘Flute Music’ is an unheralded gem of the 70’s jazz underground. An album that showcases a diverse range of styles and fervent cross-pollination, while retaining a clear sense of direction and cohesion.
Newton would later go on to record with revered jazz labels like India Navigation and ECM, and collaborate with fellow creative luminaries like Sam Rivers, Anthony Davis, Andrew Cyrille, David Murray, and John Carter. But ‘Flute Music’ captures Newton’s fiery creativity and experimental nature in its earliest blossom.

Also available: “Moral Panics” 12” EP “Agitprop Alterna” LP/CD/cassette “Pad” LP/CD
The story began with Peel Dream Magazine's debut album Modern Meta Physic, which was released in Fall 2028 and immediately garnered intense interest from music heads attuned to the sounds of artists like Broadcast, Neu!, Steve Reich & Grouper. 2020 brought Agitprop Alterna and its companion EP Moral Panics, records that assimilated shoegaze textures, but put them in service of sharp tunes and a Stereolab-like attention to space age detail. Most recently the band has struck out in new directions with Pad - an album that looks back affectionately at 60s baroque pop, full of sunshine, swing and sophistication. After some time spent out-of-print thanks to ongoing vinyl production delays, we’re very happy to bring you this fresh new pressing of Modern Meta Physic, this time on beautiful yellow & black splatter vinyl. With the recent release of Pad it’s a perfect time to reassess this terrific record and restock the Peel Dream catalog. Back in print on yellow & black splatter vinyl!
“There’s heaviness. There’s brutality. Then there’s The Body.”
–Metal Sucks
It has been said by more than a few intrepid listeners that The Body is the most brutal band on the planet. With ravishing grimness and impenetrable walls of noise, the duo of Chip King and Lee Buford create music that goes beyond what is normally considered harsh and violent, advocating a doctrine of misanthropy to those brave enough to take the plunge. Since their recording career began in earnest in 2004, The Body has expanded the definition of what it means to be a metal band, incorporating elements of noise, avant-garde composition, and experimental electronic music into their crushing doom and searing black metal foundation. Christs, Redeemers, the duo’s latest transmission of loathing and revulsion, finds King and Buford pushing even further into the horrifying unknown.
Christs, Redeemers conjures this atmosphere of foreboding and isolation sonically, lyrically, and visually. The album opens with washes of sound and one forlorn voice penetrating the ether before launching into the brutal, ghostly dirge of “To Attempt Openness,” featuring frequent collaborators the Assembly of Light Choir. Unexpected bursts of noise, generated by guitars and electronics, puncture any sense of comfort or complacency and eerie samples float from the ether. King and Buford masterfully use the spectral space between the sounds to create almost unimaginable tension, employing silence as effectively as they do cacophony. This restraint, the knowledge of when to punish with volume and when to punish with the absence thereof, bestows the moments of fury with gravity.
King’s screams are the centerpiece of the band’s aesthetic: panicstricken and distraught, constantly on the verge of breaking. His lyrics are no less unhinged. On the album’s colossal closer “Bearer of Bad Tidings,” he shrieks “Life worthless and devoid of any meaning… all the world a grave.” Buford’s drums act as both a stabilizer and instigator of the madness, at times pushing the proceedings further into oblivion and others providing a lifeline for the listener as the guitars and electronics deliberately push you toward the brink.

“...[One] of the most remarkable acts bubbling up from the extreme-metal underground.” - The New Yorker
“As it crushes and collides doom metal, harsh noise, industrial rock, and gospel singing into one mean mess, it seems to obey no rules but its own. The result is a singular, explosive masterpiece and one of the year’s essential heavy exploits-- even if, at turns, it sends you cowering.” - Pitchfork

In January of this year Sam Prekop, Archer Prewitt, John McEntire, and Eric Claridge reconvened at Chicago’s Soma Electronic Music Studios to record their latest release The Moonlight Butterfly. This thirty three minute mini-album finds the band deliverying much more long form and cinematic pieces. The new songs lean upon the band’s more experimental tendencies, taking time to stretch the forms and in someways the new material relates to the way the band re-interpretes some of their songs live. With the band making a shorter than usual record they were allowed to take more chances and ended up with a release that leans a bit more towards the instrumental. Rather than having the vocals be the sole focal point the shifts in emphasis to other instruments facilitated a more open approach. The song “Weekend” from Car Alarm was kind of an unwitting blueprint for some of the new material. Especially the new song “Inn Keeping” where a synthesizer pattern became the armature for the song, a constant to play with and against. “Inn Keeping” is also quite a breakthrough for the band, sounding unlike anything they have done before and breaking the 10 minute mark.
Hot on the heels of a month long nationwide tour and a split 7” with Broken Social Scene, The Sea and Cake are in the midst of one of their most productive periods in their nearly 20 year history. The band plan to tour throughout the year and will soon begin work on a full album to follow The Moonlight Butterfly.

“This is a group that has figured out how to reconcile breezy grooves with restless playing” - New York Times
“The Sea and Cake have steadily refined their beatific, boppy avant-pop, flirting with jazz, Latin, electronica and Afro-funk tropes while retaining a lightness of touch.”
- Mojo
“the Sea and Cake are the definition of consistent and singular: They don’t sound like anyone else...The sound throughout is gorgeous, and a nice reminder of how thoughtful simplicity can still carry a lot of weight.”

OVERVIEW
Colombian electronic artist Ela Minus and New York-based DJ and producer DJ Python (Brian Piñyero) have teamed up for their first collaboration, the ♥ (referred to as “Corazón”) EP. The three poignant songs of ♥ feature DJ Python’s immersive, ebbing instrumentals and Ela Minus singing about the liberation, intimacy and mutuality that blooms in love. ♥ is an avowal of love as a radical, everlasting practice. Minus and Python imagine love as an act of affirmation and generosity, a pursuit of reciprocity free of control.
PRAISE FOR ♥
"They may seem like opposites, but the synergy of Minus and Python’s collaboration feels like a testament to what Minus preaches across ♥: The blissful harmony of two souls finding each other."
PITCHFORK
"an effortless fusion... the new project combines buoyant vocals from Minus... with tidal synth swells from Python... to spirit its listeners somewhere far from shore, rocking us gently on its sound waves while a vaguely menacing storm gathers in the distance."
THE FADER
"steeped in love and tenderness... Confronted with such plainspoken beauty, you’ll probably be adding it to your own list of blessings before it’s even over."

Kode9 ~ Astro- Darien
Catalogue Number : LP-FLAT-002 Format : 10”LP Street Date : 11/11/2022 UPC : 5056321637901 Box Lot : 10
‘Astro Darien’ is a 26 minute sonic fiction about the break up of Britain, narrated by synthetic Scottish voices and framed as an eponymous video game. It is the second release on Hyperdub sub label Flatlines; a dark green 10” in triple gatefold sleeve, with artwork by Kode9’s long time collaborators Lawrence Lek and Optigram, presented as a limited edition of 500 copies.
From a Caledonian heart of darkness to a supernova Scotia? The documentary fiction spirals between the role of the catastrophic Darien Scheme in the late 17th century in the founding of the UK, when Scotland failed to colonise part of present day Panama, and the contemporary disintegration of the Union. In a somewhat wild extrapolation of the race to become the Scotland’s first vertical satellite launch station currently playing out between Sutherland Space Port and the Shetland Space Centre, independence is speculatively framed as an exercise of escapology, a jailbreak and exodus to an orbital space habitat, wit h all the risks and dangers that entails.
The loose plot follows a game designer from the fictional ‘Tr ancestar North' company who, in attempting to lift the dark spell cast by Darien, models a counter future by ingesting cosmism, the history o f racial capitalism and the demise of Empire into T Divine, the geopolitics simulator of the game engine. She follows the Brexit algorithm as it runs to its logical conclusion.
Initially conceived as an audio essay for diffusion on François Bayle’s 50 speaker Acousmonium for INA GRM in Paris in March 2020, but subsequently postponed by the pandemic, ‘Astro Darien’ first surfaced as a three screen A/V installation on the dance floor of Corsica Studios in June 2021 , finally reaching the Acousmonium the following October. In July 2022, an instrumental rhythmic version entitled ‘Escapology ’ was released on Hyperdub. A live A/V set relating to the ‘Astro Darien’ game universe will debut at Unsound Festival in October 2022.

Drew Wesely Blank Body
Blank Body is an intermedia audiovisual work by New York -based guitarist Drew Wesely. The material drawn from improvisations on prepared guitar and other objects, Blank Body explores the possibilities the recorded medium affords such as physically impossible musical transitions and binaural spatialization, yet is imbued with the vitality of a live performance. The accompanying vellum art book provides a visual analog as photographs, shapes, and textures emerge from and return to non-existence as the semi-transparent pages are turned like individual frames of a film.

Eli Wallace Pieces & Interludes
“...pitched or not, the music gathers and disperses in mystical masses of sound, silence and all areas in-between.”
-Marc Medwin, Dusted Magazine
Eli Wallace's first studio solo piano album - pieces & interludes - is a collection of four pieces (compositions) and three interludes in juxtaposition with each other. The pieces developed through intensive practice with various piano preparations that began before the pandemic, while the interludes are spliced sections from a larger work. A tremendous amount of movement is involved in actuating the amalgam of sounds inherent to playing piano in this manner. Wallace invites listeners to share this journey with him, to put people's ears inside the piano to hear what he hears while he's playing, and to imagine the physicality of the movements needed to make these sounds. In so doing, Wallace shares his relationship with the instrument in the most honest and intimate way possible. Through meditative passages, joyfully driving rhythmic and melodic tunes, and jarring sounds expressing the horror and depravity that it is to be human, he is offering an honest and vulnerable version of himself as an artist and human being.

Caravela Escarlate 3. Atmosfera 4. Gigantes da Destruição 5. Toque as Constelações 6. Futuro Passado 7. Cosmos 8. Planeta-Estrela
Caravela Escarlate is a Brazilian symphonic prog band which was founded in Rio de Janeiro in 2011. “Caravela Escarlate” is their second album, originally self-released in Brazil in 2017, and is a big step forward from their debut "Raschuno". Where the debut was more acoustic, "Caravela Escarlate" is way more keyboard-driven, classic prog rock. The album is heavily inspired by both English and Italian 70’s prog, but also by traditional and popular Brazilian music, which makes their musical blend quite special.
While the music almost sounds like it could have been recorded in 1973, the lyrics (in Portugese) have a bit of a more modern touch – inspired by science fiction, comic books and environmental concerns. The main character is 'Caravela Escarlate' itself, which translated to ‘Crimson Ship’. It is an alien character from sideral space, which can transform into its own vehicle of transport - in specific a ship. And what better foundation for a spaced out retro prog album than that?
Fans of keyboard trios like ELP, Trace or Triumvirat will love tracks like "Planeta-Estrela" and "Atmosfera", and fans of symphonic prog (especially the 70s retro style) should definitely check this out.

OVERVIEW
Kosmodome, a rising star in the firmament of Norway's flourishing prog music scene, will blow minds with their psychedelic sounding, 60s atmosphere-coloured rock.
The brainchild of the two Sandvik brothers, Sturle on guitars and vocals, and Severin on drums, Kosmodome’s music is riff-based rock with stoner elements all of which are placed within a progressive universe to great effect. Together, the duo bridges the gap between the explosive drive of bands such as Mastodon with melodic magic and retrospective, clever songwriting.
The band has this to say about the album: "We aim to draw listeners into the Kosmodome, in all its diversity. Throughout the album, we dwell in the melodic and the groovy; a baseline for deep dives into massive, heavy soundscapes and spacy atmospheres. Instrumental sections are central to our musical storytelling, further supported by our lyrical themes; introspection and wonder, ruminations on the human condition, and frustrations toward contemporary society."
We welcome you to enter the Kosmodome!

Wyatt at the Coyote Palace
New pressing of the old RSD LP , now on black vinyl. An essential vinyl release of the Throwing Muses ’ mainstay’s 2016’s CD and essay book that featured stories from “her life's most perception altering junctures” (NPR). “As memoirs, her albums are so intensely personal... as art, they’re arguments for the value of unapologetic individuality” Pitchfork. “This music reminds you how alone you are; it consoles you through its insolubility, comforts you by jabbing you in the chest and letting you know how complex the struggle is, how inaccessible we are to each other but just how universal our pain can be. ” The Wire. This sonically rich and fragmented record references to Hersh ’s past material and sees her perform on guitar, bass, drums, piano, horns and cello. There’s a mysticism and sense of life wonderment throughout ‘Wyatt At The Coyote Palace’ that also has death as a central theme rather than the contemplation of death itself it’s reaching the end of something and beginning a new life.

Morton Valence - Morton Valence
Morton Valence’s eighth, and eponymously titled album, produced by the legendary BJ Cole. Robert ‘Hacker’ Jessett and Anne Gilpin, who form the nucleus of Morton Valence, effortlessly take the country music genre, which is generally considered a uniquely American musical form, and create something uniquely English, without ever compromising their authenticity. The atmosphere that BJ Cole brings to the album is palpable, in both production values, and his unmistakable pedal steel guitar performances, on songs such as the plaintive ‘Together Through the Rain ’, where an estranged Anne and Hacker reunite under the shelter of an umbrella, walking through the rain and trading verses along the way. Or the more upbeat country rock of ‘I’ve Been Watching You/You’ve Been Watching Me’, which is almost as if Richard and Linda Thompson had touched down in some Nashville backbar before heading for the bright lights. And of course, the scintillatingly down beat opener, and instant urban country classic; ‘Summertime in London’, where Hacker reflects on his home city from afar, through simultaneously tear -stained and rose-tinted glasseS

Susan Whitby, aka Lora Logic was one of the most distinctive talents from the post punk era known for her intoxicating, exhilar ating sax playing and haywire vocal style. In 1976, with her friend Poly StyrenE she formed X Ray Spex and acquired the pseudonym, Lora Logic. The duo soon achieved notoriety with the irresistible single, ‘Oh Bondage Up Yours’ (1977) . However, just prior to recording 'Germ Free Adolescents' (1978), X Ray Spex's debut album, she found herself unexpectedly ousted from the band. With abundant enthusiasm she went on to form Essential Logic. 50 essential recordings from the irresistibly engaging Lora Lo gic archive, allowing for a new generation to become aware of her incredible creative output.

January 13th, 2023 OVERVIEW
In 1972, with the release of their self-titled debut album, Cymande emerged as innovators of the black British music scene. Taking influences from their Guyanese and Jamaican roots, the band fused reggae bass lines, Afro-tinged Nyabinghi percussion, psychedelic touches, and American style funk instrumentation into a unique sound they’ve since dubbed as “Nyah-rock.”
Cymande’s massive influence can be heard in the dozens and dozens of samples taken from their albums over the last four decades, from pioneering DJs like DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash, to De La Soul, The Wu-Tang Clan, Gang Starr, The Coup, Sugar Hill Gang, Norman Cook/Fatboy Slim and The Fugees -- to name a few. They stand today as one of the most revered and sampled bands to have ever cropped up across the history of Hip Hop, House, and Dance.
Partisan is proud to share newly remastered audio of Cymande’s debut album (engineered at Abbey Road Studios) — available for the very first time on translucent, orange crush vinyl. Originally released in 1972, ‘Cymande’ has been heralded as the best Brit funk album of all time, boasting perhaps their best-known funk anthem “The Message,” as well as the oft-sampled tracks “Bra” and “Dove.”

SEVENTH DREAM OF TEENAGE HEAVEN
SEVENTH DREAM OF TEENAGE HEAVEN is an unashamedly psychedelic adventure, far removed from the dark, angular soundscapes of Bauhaus. Yet they had to fight hard to avoid being branded ‘goth’, citing Syd Barrett, Marc Bolan and the later period Beatles as primary influences. The Quietus revisited the album on it’s 35th anniversary in 2015 and said “it’s its own thing, ruined elegance, sculpted beauty, sometimes sharp without being angry, often inspiring without being sappy, able to capture even slow dull moments in an attractive
Love And Rockets released their second album EXPRESS in 1986. It is a unique, mystical and transcendental travelogue of sorts. The original press release for the album said that “the balance of light and dark, positive and negative, yin and yang, is a recurring theme”. In 2020, NPR, referring to the album, stated that their “psychedelic train ride laid the foundation for alt-rock”. ▶Standard sleeve, single black vinyl

VELVET NEGRONI Bulli
Back in 2017, Minneapolis-raised artist Jeremy Nutzman emerged with his debut project, NCOD, released under the moniker Velvet Negroni (a name inspired by a fancy cocktail at a bar in Austin). His unique soundscapes brought him to big audiences and bigger fans: sampled by Kanye West, touring with Bon Iver, and signed to 4AD for the release of his acclaimed 2019 album Neon Brown. A few years later, he is gearing up for the release of his propulsive new album Bulli, a record that trembles with a slick and polished new intensity following a relatively tumultuous life period. “I started using drugs again in a negative manner,” he says, “And felt like I lost all my friends or their respect. And then there was Covid, and I was at home, then my CashApp got hacked. And because of that I got paranoid as fuck for a long time and stayed in the house.” And then further disaster struck – a fire in his house – and the mindset all changed. “It sort of distorted everything,” he says of the fire, “Looking back, it had to have.”
The result is an album on which Nutzman cannot fully hear himself. – which makes sense, given the heavy circumstances in which he was creating it. Though, as he explains: “However it got filtered, the album is still me. It glimmers with an almostuncomfortable pop sheen, with lead single ‘Sinker’ whirring with a strutting positivity and rich instrumentation that is at stark odds with the lyrics (“Wake up and do pills like I’m dying of cancer”). Touchstones of leftfield electronic sounds meld with nods to alternative rock, power pop, even tender R&B and deft hip-hop. It’s a record that holds something anticipatory, at times almost frantic and manic, occasionally even sexy and breathy (as on the lithe bass of ‘Shiny’). Given the period of his life that it emerged from, it’s understandable that Nutzman would feel fraught and uncertain listening back to Bulli, but make no mistake: it’s a deeply accomplished album which swirls with fragmentary soundscapes pushing ever forward into somewhere that feels new and vital.

Billy Nomates, the project of the Bristol based songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist Tor Maries, announces the release of her much anticipated second studio album, CACTI, on 13 January 2023 via Invada Records.
Recorded at her flat and Invada Studios, CACTI is a huge step up for the artist, who received widespread critical acclaim for her eponymous 2020 debut album, with heavy airplay across BBC Radio 6 Music and support from luminaries such as Iggy Pop, Florence Welsh and Steve Albini
Though every bit as unrepentant as Billy Nomates’ debut, CACTI comes from a much more exposed place and sees Tor further develop her instinctive, inventive songwriting and production. Unafraid to wade into the traumas of the past two years and the eerie sense of apathy that lingers, alongside heartache and more political themes, the 12 track collection openly confronts uncomfortable truths, as Tor puts it, "70 80% of being bold is about being vulnerable as hell."
Maries said: “Writing CACTI took just over a year. I wrote very intensely and then none at all. (This seems to be the way I work best). I picked up old drum machines, mapped out things in my kitchen with the same small micro keyboard I always use and then raided the cupboards and rooms at Invada Studios, to play and experiment with old synths, an upright piano, this weird organ thing. I hope everyone finds their own narrative in CACTI. I think it's about surviving it all.”
‘CACTI’ features ‘blue bones’ and ‘balance is gone’ , both of which have been playlisted at BBC 6Music
The album is pressed on transparent vinyl comes housed in a spined sleeve with double sided printed insert. The CD is presented as a card sleeve with 12 page lyric booklet.

Pittsburgh’s feeble little horse is a 4-piece band that writes intricately catchy, digitized noise pop songs. Formed by Sebastian Kinsler (guitar, production, vocals, bass) and Ryan Walchonski (guitar, vocals) in Ryan’s student apartment in South Oakland, PA in February 2021, the duo soon added Ryan’s roommate Jake Kelley on drums, and, inspired by a wave of creativity, the trio released their rst EP – modern tourism, in May 2021, with artwork contributed by future member Lydia Slocum (vocals, bass).
After o cially joining the band in June of that year as bassist and vocalist, Lydia added her own sweet vocals, rich melodies, and punchy lyrics to the band’s heady mix. From summer to fall of that year, the quartet played their rst shows at DIY estab lishments across Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, gaining a word-of-mouth reputation as one of the most exciting new bands on the scene.
In October 2021 feeble little horse released their rst full-length album, Hayday, via Julia’s War Recordings. That label, founded by Doug Dulgarian of the band They Are Gutting a Body of Water, saw feeble little horse crossover with like-minded acts such as Horse Jumper of Love, Wednesday, and Hotline TNT.
Full of dense textures and exhilarating tension, the album’s eleven songs bristle with pent-up energy, the mood ipping between sweet noise-pop elements and more visceral discharges, the whole thing balanced on a knife-edge between the light and dark, the earnest and unhinged.
The band continues to expand and evolve in 2022, with new music on the horizon that looks set to rede ne the band’s sound once again. Before that, however, comes a reissue of the Hayday LP, via Saddle Creek and Unstable – a record label started by the band. Pressed to vinyl for the rst time, the new vinyl run consists of a limited transparent blue Indie Exclusive and a standard black pressing.

OVERVIEW
Fela Kuti (1938-1997) was a Nigerian musician, producer, arranger, political radical, outlaw and the originator of Afrobeat. A titanic musical and sociopolitical voice, Fela’s legacy spans decades and genres, touching on jazz, pop, funk, hip-hop, rock and beyond.
“Shakara” is the 6th in the series of celebratory Fela 50th Anniversary reissues. Like its predecessors in the series, this version will be on color vinyl and the LP will be wrapped in a gold foil obi strip with a brief essay on the album and Fela’s global impact on music. Like Fela’s other early 70’s releases, he used each side of his LPs to create a deep groove that pulls the listener in and follows with metaphoric lyrics that call out and critique the corrupt hangover of colonialism.
The album is the sound of Afrobeat’s maturation as a global music. Fela’s Pidgin English lyrics extend his music’s audience beyond Yoruba speakers and make his words understandable across the Anglophone world. In “Lady”, Fela highlights the adoption of European social habits to the detriment of African culture. “Shakara” is a mainly instrumental track, with a brief lyric, sung in Yoruba, warning against boasters and braggarts. The song pacing is festive and typically up tempo, with boisterous horn arrangements, with strong solos from Fela on keyboards and the fearsome Igo Chico on tenor saxophone.
This special edition also includes a bonus yellow vinyl 7" of the two album tracks, Lady and Shakara, by UK Jazz phenoms, Ezra Collective, who recently released their 2nd album “Where I’m Meant to Be”.

Led by the scintillating songwriting team of Chris Collingwood and the late, great Adam Schlesinger, power pop maestros Fountains of Wayne put out a number of absolutely brilliant albums, of which we at Real Gone Music have been fortunate so far to reissue two, Welcome Interstate Managers and Traffic and Weather. But of all the great records released by this New York-area band, this one, the 2005 odds ‘n’ ends 2-CD set Out-of-State Plates, remained reportedly among the closest to the heart of Schlesinger, who died tragically of COVID in 2020. A mixture of demos, B-sides, live performances, and unreleased tracks (the great “Maureen” and “The Girl I Can’t Forget”), it’s an always entertaining, often hilarious, and (of course!) never less than tuneful romp through about a decade’s worth of recordings, all wittily annotated by Collingwood and Schlesinger. Covers both heartfelt and tongue-incheek (Jackson Browne’s “These Days” and Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time”) and holiday fare (“I Want an Alien for Christmas,” “Chanukah Under the Stars”) lie alongside such B-side gems as “Baby I’ve Changed” and “I’ll Do the Driving” and a live “She’s Got a Problem.” For its vinyl debut, we’ve created a fetching gatefold jacket featuring the duo’s commentary inside, and pressed this 2-LP set in “Junkyard Swirl” vinyl to match the cover photo. debut album, originally released in 2015 as a super limited LP by International Anthem, was pared from nearly 48 hours of live, improvised performance, recorded at one venue over 12 months and 28 shows. Makaya culled, cut, rendered and remixed the mass of sounds into 19 potent pieces of organic beat music and, as constructed, thusly named, I
In January of 2013, Makaya set to mapping out a weekly residency from within a reclaimed bank vault turned contemporary restaurant in the heart of Chicago’s Ukrainian Village. Recruiting friends and frequent collaborators, over the course of the year, the residency became a hotbed for a rotation of Chicago improvisers multifarious in specialization. From local luminaries of post rock to left field hip hop, the stage was made as a proving ground for style experiments based in jazz and hip hop but faithfully receiving the spontaneous summoning of a host of subconscious influences. From free jazz to krautrock to downtempo house, what they arrived at was a new lexicon within an improvisational framework.
Jeff Parker (Tortoise, Chicago Underground), Joshua Abrams (Natural Information Society, Prefuse 73), and De’Sean Jones (Underground Resistance) were among those who accepted Makaya’s invitation over the course of the residency. Public House Sound Recordings’ founder Dave Vettraino committed himself to the task of recording and mixing every performance that occurred. From those raw hours of performance, Makaya trimmed and hewed the honey pot into an armory of beats, vamps, hooks and arresting moments of instrumental revelation.

“When you improvise, you’re in right now. Being in that moment gives you a perspective of life that you never get at any other time as far as learning about your ego. You have to see your unimportance before you can see your importance and your significance to the world.”

TOMMY MCLAIN
I RAN DOWN EVERY DREAM
BLACK VINYL LP STREET DATE: JANUARY 13, 2023
I Ran Down Every Dream is the first album in over four decades by swamp pop legend Tommy McLain . Produced by his musical protege C.C. Adcock, the album features thirteen tracks, including ten original songs written or co-written by McLain. I Ran Down Every Dream was recorded in Louisiana, Texas, California, and England, with a similarly disparate group of friends and fans, including Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe (both of whom contribute co-writes), plus Jon Cleary, Denny Freeman, Ed Harcourt, Roy Lowe, Augie Meyers, Ivan Neville, Van Dyke Parks, Mickey Raphael, Steve Riley, Speedy Sparks, Warren Storm and more.
As an album, I Ran Down Every Dream is both a celebration and a requiem. It bookends a career that has seen Tommy scale the upper reaches of the Billboard charts, share the stage with the likes of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, The Yardbirds and ZZ Top, and become a global ambassador for the swamp pop sound - that singularly affecting combination of rhythm and blues, country and western, gospel, and traditional French Louisiana styles. The album also looks back, with more than a little heartache, in tribute to some of the fellow musical travelers that McLain has lost. Two tracks on the album were written by McLain’s dear friend and Louisiana music royalty Bobby Charles, and it also marks the final sessions for two legendary musicians who died in 2021; Texas guitar slinger Denny Freeman, and Tommy’s close collaborator Warren Storm. For McLain himself, the years-long road to I Ran Down Every Dream was beset by a heart attack, two hurricanes and a house fire. With every obstacle he overcame, McLain’s resolve to complete I Ran Down Every Dream grew stronger. Tommy McLain is perhaps the last great artist from rock ‘n’ roll’s pioneering first generation awaiting rediscovery. The signature swamp pop sound that he helped create spawned multiple national hits in the 1960s and inspired artists like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Little Feat, and Tony Joe White, among others. His best known songs - “Sweet Dreams,” “Before I Grow Too Old” and “Try To Find Another Man” - are to this day considered cornerstones of the genre. He’s been inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame (twice!), earned a gold record for writing “If You Don’t Love Me (Why Don’t You Just Leave Me Alone)” for Freddy Fender, and even appeared - as himself - in the 1975 Paul Newman thriller The Drowning Pool

Lisa O’Neill
Following 5 BBC Folk Awards nominations and a designation by the Guardian as Folk Album of the Year in 2019, it is fair to say that Lisa O’Neill is one of the most evocative songwriters in contemporary Irish music today. Fresh off 2018’s collection Heard a Long Song Gone for the River Lea imprint, The Wren EP in 2019 and an adaptation drama Peaky Blinders, O’Neill now returns with her latest album, and All Of This Is Chance.
A raconteur in the truest sense of the word, every story starts somewhere and O’Neill starts this extraordinary collection here on earth, on Irish soil, hands in the land. The album is full of both orchestral masterpieces like the ambitious and cinematic “Old Note”, inspired by the great Monaghan writer Patrick Kavanagh’s prescient meditation on The Great Hunger as well as stirring meditations on nature, birds, berries, bees, and blood that ring out over a clacking banjo, dusting and devastating all those in its wake. All Of This Is Chance takes Lisa’s inimitable voice to greater heights, or depths, depending on which way you look at it.

JAMES YORKSTON, NINA PERSSON AND THE SECONDHAND ORCHESTRA THE GREAT WHITE EAGLE SEA
OVERVIEW
The Great White Sea Eagle is the follow up to James Yorkston and The Secondhand Orchestra’s The Wide, Wide River (2021).
Yorkston and Sweden’s The Secondhand Orchestra had no real plans to do a follow up, but as James visited his studio in Cellardyke, Fife everyday in early 2021, he began to start writing songs on the piano as opposed to his usual guitar as he gazed upon the sea outside his window.
After sending the first five or six songs to Karl-Jonas Winqvist (the leader/conductor of TSHO), they began to discuss working on the music together. With Yorkston’s shift from guitar to piano, they thought about what other changes they could make to their process which led to the involvement of a guest singer and the legendary Nina Persson (The Cardigans) was brought into the fold.
They followed the same methodology as The Wide, Wide River – apart from James, Nina and KJ, none of The Secondhand Orchestra had heard the music prior to entering the studio – and the arrangements were made up on the spot. Yorkston summarises: “We went for the "loose is best" theory, we didn't over rehearse or fret too much about things being perfect. I think that's all audible. The album sounds (to me), very relaxed and free. And the piano has opened up a new sonic palette. The whole thing has been great fun”.
The Great White Sea Eagle follows the release of Yorkston’s latest novel and The Times Book of the Month The Book of the Gaels.
• James Yorkston is a prolific writer who has worked with a wealth of talent over his two decade career, including Four Tet, Alexis Taylor, KT Tunstall, Rustin Man, Simon Raymonde, Norma and Mike Waterson, Martin Carthy, Max Cooper, David Wrench and others.
• James Yorkston and The Secondhand Orchestra’s The Wide, Wide River (2021) was named a Guardian Top 10 Folk Album of 2021.
• Yorkston has recently collaborated as a trio under the name Yorkston/Thorne/ Khan, most recently with Navarasa: Nine Emotions (2020). Each individual contributes vocals to material both original and reimagined as Suhail Yusuf Khan on sarangi, Jon Thorne on double bass, and Yorkston, principally on guitar, improvise within their mutual space and love of folk, Indian classical music, jazz and dub reggae.
• Non-commercial radio campaign to impact upon release.
• All LPs come with a download card.

Over the course of four albums, Rozi Plain’s hypnotic, gently askew songs have steadily sauntered their way from her birthplace of Winchester, reverberated through the bustling Bristol DIY scene, to where they now emanate from London’s creative epicentre. Acquiring a worldliness that’s reflected in her travels as a touring musician, each consecutive release has broached new sonic territory, whilst retaining a home grown intimacy and a familial warmth of spirit. On Prize, her upcoming fifth long player, due for release on Memphis Industries on 13 January 2023, Rozi’s unique, heart felt approach continues to prevail, marking her as one of our most innovative and engaging songwriters.
At the core of Rozi’s idiosyncratic sound, there is a keening for simplicity; a recurring urge to strip things back to their essence, to reveal their innate beauty. Rozi’s uses her singular unaffected vocal accompanied by an electric guitar she built herself. Chords are broken into cyclical, meditative patterns of plucked staccato figures. These punchy, quietly complex entrancing arpeggios reel you in, crucially allowing room for reflection and collaboration.
On Prize, Rozi has assembled her widest cast of players to create an album that not only preserves the intimacy of her signature guitar and vocal sound, but accentuates these moments of calm, and explosive emotion, midst a soaring, collective spirit. From the blissful vocals of This Is The Kit’s Kate Stables on ‘Agreeing For Two’, to the call and response vocals on ‘Prove Your Good’; from the expansive instrumentation and ornately co ordinated arrangements of ‘Help’ and ‘Sore’, to the sublime synth celebration explorations of ‘Painted The Room’, and the woozy jazz inflected ‘Spot Thirteen’; there’s a sense of togetherness, and the very process of coming together, that permeates throughout the album’s ten tracks.

Tuomo & Markus are a new musical project from acclaimed Finnish soul/jazz artist Tuomo Prättälä and singer/songwriter Markus Nordenstreng of The Latebirds. The duo’s harmonious music has been described as indie-folk and Nordic Americana with distinct jazz, soul and prog-rock influences. Throughout their tenure, the pair have always looked to bridge the gap between psychedelic and folkinspired soundscapes. For their second album 'Game Changing' the duo teamed up with Jonathan Wilson, best known for his production work with Father John Misty and Angel Olsen. Other contributors on the new release include jazz trumpet virtuoso Verneri Pohjola and guitar legend Marc Ribot. Since the release of their debut album 'Dead Circles' which was recorded with help from members of Wilco, Calexico and The Jayhawks, Tuomo & Markus have transformed into a stellar 6-piece live band. With the addition of Finnish jazz trumpet sensation Verneri Pohjola jazz and psychedelic influences have become more and more evident at their ambitious live shows, drawing the attention of critics like David Fricke who hailed the band in Rolling Stone Magazine recently and Kevin Cole from KEXP who in turn invited Tuomo & Markus for a live session when they performed in Seattle. Tuomo & Markus have also recorded several 7" soul singles for Stylart/Timmion Records/DapTone under the alias Pratt & Moody.

Bell Orchestre
Erased Tapes are immensely proud to announce the reissue of Bell Orchestre landmark debut album Recording a Tape the Colour of the Light. To honour the album’s original recordings, label founder Robert Raths and band leader Richard Reed Parry decided to repress the original masters on vinyl for the first time since its first release in 2005.
Originally formed in 1999 whilst studying at university, the first music Bell Orchestre made was live scores for contemporary dance performances. A few years later, the studio sessions for Recording A Tape.. took place simultaneously in the same studio as when Arcade Fire were recording their eponymous debut album Funeral. The two Montreal based bands took turns to record their albums but due to the growing interest in Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre was put on hold as band members Parry and Sarah Neufeld quickly became occupied with Arcade Fire’s busy touring schedule. “The Bell Orchestre album was almost done, but it kind of sat there. We were just sitting on this album that we were really proud of, but we didn't have anyone to pay attention to it” Parry told Pitchfork in 2005. The album was released to critical acclaim and has since received cult status among fans.
Bell Orchestre is a collaborative instrumental group based in Montreal. Its six members come from wildly divergent musical backgrounds, and the unlikely chemistry that results from their collaboration is the very thing that sustains their connection. It’s as if the group as a whole has tapped into a very particular, very distinct energy: like that of an approaching storm. In many ways, Bell Orchestre is the sum of not only its parts, but the sum of its influences and inspirations. Among those influences can be listed such diverse artists as Lee “Scratch” Perry, Arvo Pärt, Charles Mingus, and Talk Talk. But ultimately they work together to create something that none of them has quite heard before.
Bell Orchestre has been known to retreat into the woods to make and write music: from a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts, to the forests of Quebec and Vermont, and back to their hometown of Montreal. The specifics of time and place, the elemental forces at work outside, and those forces that exist inside, all come into play within Bell Orchestre’s musical process. This particular music could be made by no one else at no other time in history.
The experience of listening to Bell Orchestre, whether live or recorded, is almost that of experiencing a form of synaesthesia: the result is a collage like construction of not just sound, but visual elements as well. From a herd of elephants to that approaching storm on the horizon, from a quiet forest in the country to ice forming on a city street, from watching vapour trails disappear in the sky to watching the changing light of dusk through a window. The result then is not so much cinematic as it is evocative: Bell Orchestre have not just written the music to the film they have created an invisible film that only comes to life in the listening.

OVERVIEW
Jordsjø is a duo from Oslo, Norway inspired by old horror movies, German 70s synth music, Swedish prog, fantasy novels and Norwegian nature. After three cassette demos, the album “Jord” was what the band considers to be their first “proper” album. Up until that point, the band only sold homemade tapes to friends and a few die-hard collectors - but Jord got a bigger audience, also outside Norway. The band has never been happy about the mix, done quickly with the intent of only a tape release –so they decided to give it a fresh mix from scratch, and include the other songs recorded at the same weekend in the Summer of 2016. Therefore, the «Jord Sessions». There’s a new organ track on «Abstraksjoner..» and some bells and percussion on «Valinors Lamper», otherwise, all tracks remain as the original.
There’s an underlying theme of alienation, roots and dreams on Jord Sessions – with an organic and dynamic sound which gives associations to 70s prog, with traces of electronic music and folk. Plenty of flute, guitars and a vast array of vintage synths give the album a warm and vintage sound, while still sounding fresh and interesting. The band consists of multiinstrumentalist Håkon Oftung (Tusmørke, Black Magic) and drummer Kristian Frøland.

Airbag
OVERVIEW
Norwegian prog act Airbag is set to release a remastered version of their fourth album via Karisma Records on ___. Disconnected, originally released in 2016, was the follow-up to the bands critically acclaimed 2013 release ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’. The album features six songs with a common theme running through them. From the opening track, ‘Killer’, to the thirteen-minute long title track, the listener is taken on a sonic journey of lush soundscapes and arrangements, underlined by soaring guitars and soulful vocals.
As always, Airbag masters the art of creating a strong narrative listening-experience by closely tying together lyrical themes and music. Another central point to make note of with Disconnected, is how Airbag ventures even deeper into blending musical styles and sounds, which also greatly contributes to creating the unique listening experience that Airbag is, by now, well-known for. Disconnected is a reflection on the theme of alienation between the individual and society, what society expects from us as individuals, and our resultant failure to live up to those expectations. Each of the six compositions depicts the state of feeling on 'the outside’ and out of touch with oneself and those around us.
Airbag’s music is best described as scenic, epic rock. Airbag’s four hugely successful album releases, Identity (2009), All Right Removed (2011), The Greatest Show on Earth (2013) and Disconnected (2016), has gained the band a solid following and reputation among both fans and the press. Prog Magazine described The Greatest Show on Earth as a "confident step in the right direction, so much so you’re led to believe that album number four really could be the big one". And upon the album’s initial release, they continued: “…with Disconnected there’s no questioning the size of the Oslo five-piece’s sound. They’ve further proved their way with huge, expansive sonic visas, through six songs that are often irresistibly, comfortingly widescreen in their aesthetics and melodic sweep.”
For the production of Disconnected, Airbag has once again teamed up with long-time collaborator and engineer Vegard Sleipnes. The album is produced by Asle Tostrup and Bjørn Riis, and, as always, the Airbag cover is designed by singer Tostrup.
The album has been meticulously remastered for vinyl by White Willow mastermind Jacob Holm-Lupo, and is the first in a series of remastered Airbag vinyl releases on Karisma Records. Heavyweight vinyl in gatefold cover and printed inner sleeves

"Mayhem In Blue", the 2016 album from Psychedelic Prog Black Metallers Hail Spirit Noir, is set for a limited vinyl re-release on Dark Essence Records. The album was third full-lenght release for the Greek trio, who have since released two more acclaimed albums.
For the original release of "Mayhem In Blue", the band had this to say: "It's been two and a half years since the release of our last album, and with "Mayhem In Blue" we have set out to express our more aggressive side, without sacrificing any of the psychedelic melodies that are an integral part of what we like to call Hail Spirit Noir's "weird black sound". If anything in fact, the sound is more enticing and trippy than ever.
Featuring the mixing talents of Dimitris Douvras (Rotting Christ) and the exceptional mastering abilities of Alan Douches (Chelsea Wolfe, Motorhead), we feel the result is an album that elevates our signature psychoprog black metal sound to new levels".

OVERVIEW
Wobbler is Norway’s leading symphonic prog band, formed in Hønefoss in 1999.
Classic prog influences (Gentle Giant, Yes, King Crimson, Museo Rosenbach, Genesis, PFM and so on) and a vast array of vintage sounds. Features members of Tusmørke, White Willow, The Chronicles of Father Robin and ex-Jaga Jazzist.
Highly regarded by prog connoisseurs across the globe, Wobbler has an extensive fanbase in Scandinavia, Europe and North-America. They’ve previously released three highly acclaimed albums, this is their first on Karisma Records.
On "From Silence to Somewhere" Wobbler cooks an enigmatic, multi flavoured and adventurous brew in the olde black cauldron. Poignant and edgy guitar riffs, melancholic and harmonious verses, powerful crescendos, energetic spinet driven passages and the odd touch of flamenco and italian recitals. Four epic songs, clocking in at 47 minutes. Thematically spun around a wondering view on metamorphosis, change and alchymism – a bit of a continuation from the previous album “Rites at Dawn”, but slightly darker and more introspective. Musically, there’s a connection to all of the three previous albums, while at the same time making new ground. Inspiration from renaissance music and old Italian prog has seeped into the mix, as well

KOWLOON WALLED CITY - PIECEWORK LP (MILKY WHITE) RELIC111
In the world of heavy music, few bands embrace dynamics and negative space like Kowloon Walled City. Since forming 15 years ago, the band has increasingly refined its deconstructed approach to noise rock, math rock, and doom.
Now, with Piecework (Neurot Recordings/Gilead Media), the band’s fourth album and first in six years, Kowloon Walled City reaches new levels of restraint. Songs are bleak and slow, but also shorter and more concise. (Seven songs clock in at about 30 minutes.) There are stretches of near silence. While the band has always operated under the MO that less is more, it has doubled down on that ethos for Piecework. Singer/guitarist Scott Evans and guitarist Jon Howell, the main songwriters, self-imposed restrictions to push themselves creatively—“restraining ourselves into oblivion,” as Howell put it. Songs are written in more straightforward time signatures. Evans and Howell also changed their guitar rigs to sound more “clean and clanky.”
With the gristle stripped away, bone and muscle remain: drums decaying in a room, bass strings rattling, a lonely guitar chord. Sometimes, it’s almost uncomfortably barren. But the negative space also amplifies the ruptures of heady aggressiveness that anchor Piecework. Angular guitar notes from Howell skew off the neck, dissolving into space. Ian Miller’s bass lines churn in the muck. Drums and cymbal smashing by Dan Sneddon punctuate dead air.(Sneddon, formerly of Early Graves, makes his recording debut with the band five years after joining.) There’s sadness and anger in Evans’ shouted vocals, but also a desire for something better.
Through the resignation and regret, Piecework also hints at perseverance and hope.
On “Utopian,” inspired in part by Kim Stanley Robinson’s sci-fi book Red Mars, Evans declares, “now we’re weightless, left for dead / there’s no sorry songs left”—a statement of fatalism or perhaps a rallying cry, as if to say, we get it, things are fucked—now what?
Evans was dealing with the loss of his father during the writing of the album. He found strength in the women in his life, especially his maternal grandmother, who worked at a shirt factory in Kentucky for 40 years while raising five kids. The album name (and title track) is a nod to her line of work—and her quiet resilience. Lyrics aren’t obviously personal, however; they mix references to family, friends, music (Low, Willie Nelson, The Breeders, The Court and Spark, Radiohead), books (by Kim Stanley Robinson, historian Howard Zinn, English poet Thomas Hood), computer science pioneer Ken Thompson, and some early ’70s computer security analysis papers.
The themes of absence and death, surrendering to aging, and familial strength and love are all encapsulated in album artwork by photographer Melyssa Anishnabie—the tattered beauty of an abandoned home reveals the faint edges of where life used to be. Evans likens it to watching a grandparents’ house fall into disrepair.
As with all previous KWC releases, Evans recorded and mixed Piecework. (His recording credits include Yautja, Thrice, Great Falls, Ghoul, Town Portal, and many others.) And like previous albums Container Ships (2012) and Grievances (2015), the tracks were recorded live at Oakland’s Sharkbite Studios, with minor overdubs. “There’s not a lot of artifice,” Evans said. “You don’t have to ‘produce in’ excitement or special. Let what’s there be exciting and special.”
On that front, the band has clearly succeeded. Piecework feels not only like an artistic accomplishment but a triumph of perseverance and vision.

New Orleans black metal sect MEHENET announce the bands highly anticipated sophomore full-length album titled, Ng'ambu - meaning "the opposite shore" - is set for release on September 10, 2021 via Gilead Media.
Five tracks of masterful, ritualistic, and pitch-black evil make up the entirety of Ng’ambu - an album which is meant to be interpreted as a hymnal to invoke and praise spirits - shows the band drenched in offerings to the bands personal connection and dedication to Quimbanda, the Afro-Brazilian diasporic belief system based around magic, rituals, and offerings. The band explains, “It is both an offering to our Cabula, that is our house, as it is to the spirits of Quimbanda themselves. This isn’t a passing interest and all the members of the band have been involved in one way or another in a formal manner. What does it mean to engage these spirits? In some sense we are turning what could otherwise be poison into medicine. It is a process of engaging, through struggle, with those aspects of ourselves and the world which live at the pivot point of chance and desire. It is about seeking agency even in the thistles of the road. Quimbanda is the fire by which we forge our iron and the strangling plantst that cure disease. Quimbanda is both the pox and the inoculation. Quimbanda is our anxiety and the motivation that anxiety produces. It is conflict and the strength that comes from engaging that conflict. People say, idle hands are the devil’s plaything, and so we have put those hands and The Devil to work.”
For the band's sophomore release, MEHENET connects a powerful fury of black metal mastery to the deeply rooted sounds of New Orleans - by way of utilizing samples of the bustling French Quarter and by paying respect and praise to the cultural music of the city by incorporating congas, whistles, and bells. Recorded and mixed in 2019 by James Whitten at High Tower Recording in New Orleans, LA and mastered by Dėha at Opus Magnum Studio-Brussels, Belgium, the band captured the intricately woven frenzy of the outfits stunning musicality while interlacing their powerfully provoked hymns with screeches of vicious and commanding vocals, anxiety-inducing swarms of massive riffs, and momentous, hellish drumming.

THE SILVER make their Gilead Media debut with the album Ward of Roses. A record that is at once extreme and exposed, horrific yet beautiful, Ward of Roses explores anxiety, love, loss, and the matters that make us all too human.
From “First Utterance” to “Then Silence” the curtain rises and falls on a haunting tableau of human frailty, a romantic and visceral exploration of the dark recesses of the soul. Featuring members of Horrendous and Crypt Sermon, Ward of Roses marks a decidedly different path for the musical collective. An album that deals in blast beats as much as romanticism, Ward of Roses progresses through movements that draw from black metal, goth rock, and other bleak expressions.
V’s soaring clean vocals mingle with cathartic guitars while vocalist Nick Duchemin howls over strident blast passages often in the same song. THE SILVER’s ethos alludes to metallurgy. Silver can only reach its intended shape, state, and purpose when hammered, set ablaze, and struck again. As the hymns of Ward of Roses suggest, we are tempered through all of our life experiences and traumas, emerging only after we have leapt through the flames of our personal abysses.
Ward of Roses was recorded by Brad Omen at the Covenant in Philadelphia. Mixed and mastered by Damian Herring. Artwork by Paul Romano.

PYRITHE - MONUMENTS TO IMPERMANENCE RELIC141
Pittsburgh collaborative, experimental sludge trio PYRITHE announce the band's long-awaited, debut full-length titled, “Monuments To Impermanence'' to be released April 29, 2022 via Gilead Media.
Over the eight tracks of “Monuments To Impermanence” the band bursts open at light-speed through a sonic maelstrom of genre-bending, heavy-as-hell, whirlwind compositions. Calculated, yet never suffocating, the lurching movements of each song twist and turn through evolutions of profound mood swings laced in nebulous, post-everything, sludge-drenched power. Pyrithe delivers an immersive and engrossing blend of intense riffage and avant-garde atmospheres.
Thematically, the band sees the world as apocalyptic and dreadful but through a lens of hilarity and absurdity. “It’s more about understanding, embracing, or jovially mocking those things with strange reverence,” shares PYRITHE multi-instrumentalist Kerr. While broadening their scope both musically and thematically, PYRITHE have achieved an unforgettable and masterful new take on songwriting.
Formed in 2017 by Kerr and Miller, the duo set out to “make the heaviest music we could without forcing ourselves to be ‘heavy’ in any specific way,” (Kerr). The band recruited Weston on bass and Vicky Carbone on vocals. As a foursome, the band shared the stage with the likes of FALLS OF RAUROS, IMMORTAL BIRD, and more, and made a festival appearance at Migration Fest. The band amicably parted ways with Carbone and began working on their full-length. The three-piece entered Fire K Studios in July of 2019 to create “Monuments Of Impermanence”. The trio welcomed multiple guests to perform on the album including a reappearance of Vicky Carbone who delivers a chilling vocal performance, a blistering and terrorizing vocal performance from PYRRHON frontman Doug Moore, and found-percussion performances (including the use of actual trash!) from Jason Cantu, Max Johnson (NOLTEM),
Shalin Shah (NOLTEM).

Sarathy Korwar returns with new album KALAK. The follow up to the politically charged, award-winning More Arriving is an Indo-futurist manifesto - in rhythmic step with the past and the present, it sets out to describe a route forward. It celebrates a rich South Asian culture of music and literature, which resonates with spirituality and community, while envisaging a better future from those building blocks.
Recorded at Real World Studios with meticulous production by New York electronic musician, DJ and producer Photay, who translates these communal rhythms and practices into a timeless and groundbreaking electronic record. There’s a spirituality and warmth at play in the
