WELCOME C E N T R A L R I V E RS L E AGU E S’ M A N AG E R

After 18 months of no community sport, and as we all still slowly recover from the impacts of the 2020 pandemic, it is with great excitement that I officially welcome you all to the Central Murray and Golden Rivers Leagues’ 2021 seasons; I hope everyone is as keen as I am to get their weekly dose of local footy and netball! We are looking forward to a new start as part of the AFL Central Victoria Commission, under the combined banner of Central Rivers Leagues. I have only been on board for 1 month, but I know it has been a huge amount of work for clubs to get to this stage, so congratulations to everyone involved – your efforts have not gone unnoticed and I am sure your club and its members are appreciative of everything you have done thus far. For anyone itching to get their local footy and netball fix, the 2021 season kicks off with Koondrook Barham vs. Tyntynder, in Central Murray Football Netball League, this weekend, as a stand alone game – it would be great to get plenty of supporters down there to enjoy the atmosphere. Round 1 then officially begins for both the Golden Rivers and Central Murray clubs the following week, April 17th. I, for one, cannot wait to get the season underway!

With Round 1 quickly approaching, I would like to remind everyone that there is a lot of work that

goes into organising match day’s each week and that it’s never too late to put your hand up and offer your club some help. Many hands make light work, so I encourage everyone to speak to their club committees and find out what they can do to contribute – even something small could make a big difference. We would like to send a massive thank you to all of our League Sponsors – big and small – for their ongoing support and contributions; we appreciate each and every one of you. In particular, thanks to the Sponsors who continued to support the League during 2020 as you are a big reason that we can continue to function going forward. We look forward to continuing to build our partnerships over the next 12 months and beyond. Personally, I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who has helped, supported and welcomed me to the Central Rivers Leagues. To the clubs who have been friendly and understanding as I negotiate my new role and find my feet, to Sheridan Harrop, Laura Naughton and the Central Rivers Board who have done an enormous amount of planning and work to get the 2021 season underway, to the Sponsors and external stakeholders who have been open and accepting of changes and last minute updates – I appreciate your initial support and look forward to continuing to work with you all as the season progresses, hopefully there is only smooth sailing from here! Finally, good luck to all committees, club officials, volunteers, players and umpires for the upcoming season. Let’s make 2021 a great year for the Central Murray and Golden Rivers League’s!

LAST TIME THEY MET T Y N T Y N D E R V KO O N D RO O K BA R H A M

Round 5, 2019 was the last time that these clubs met. A red hot Koondrook Barham, who were fresh off a 100-point win over Lake Boga, travelled to Tyntynder where they were looking to keep the momentum from their win against Kerang alive.

TYNTYNDER

Koondrook Barham jumped out of the gate strong with a 7-goal opening term to give them a 23-point lead at quarter time. From there they never looked back, going on to defeat Tyntynder by 31 points. Kye Atwell led the goal scorers on the ground with 4, while Marcus Wattie, Michael Dedini, Brad Heffer and Matthew O’Dwyer all kicked 3. The best players on the ground were Elliot Broad & Bradley Heffer.

KOONDROOK BARHAM A P R I L 1 0 VS T Y N T Y N D E R Well here we are 2021, 2020 is no longer an issue and has been put on the backburner, but the good news is we are back playing and watching the game we love (I think), Aussie Rules, more to the point, for the River Raiders it starts this Saturday! It will be a huge day for the club, it will be the beginning of a new era for the Koondrook Barham Football and Netball Club, a new ground, a new state of the art complex with seating for spectators, a new electronic scoreboard, and a new look team with some very talented youngsters looking to make a name for themselves in the footy and netball world. Saturday’s first competition game for four points on the new ground is against Tyntynder, it is a standalone game within the league so the Bulldogs will have the privilege of being the first opposition team to play on the new ground, how unlucky are they to be the Raiders first victims!. It will be a big day for the club, a large crowd is expected, especially people from clubs within the league to suss out the competing teams, plus people from other leagues who will no doubt want to suss out the new facilities etc. All clubs go through the drama of recruiting and losing players in the off season and the Raiders are no exception, it is just part and parcel of the footy world. In 2020 the young Raiders continued to train under the guidance of Jumbo and Billy and although they couldn’t play they still had the attitude of why not keep up the training, keep fit and that will stand us in good stead with the hope of playing in 2021, well here we are and rest assured the boys will be raring to go!. As for player personnel we have seen the return this year of a few former players which has got the

club buzzing a tad!. Harley Burmeister, Jay Reynolds, Cam Arnold just to name a few, Rowdy Arthur has returned in a coaching role and youngsters in Coen Grant and Morgan Turvey have decided to stay with the Raiders. We have also recruited pretty well from far and wide, some of the new players you will see running around in the Raiders colours include Chester Gardner (Colac & Dist. League), Col Mc Veigh (Sunraysia FL), Paul Mc Quilton Miles (Tallangatta FL), Reagan & Jye Hamilton (Picola FL), Sam & Jack Randall (GRFL), Dudley Bibby & Daniel Ellis both from the CMFL and Tyson Heffer (GRFL). So I would suggest that if you wish to see these players, plus our highly talented home grown players, then Raiders Central is the place to be this Saturday, hopefully mother nature will be kind to us!. Best of luck to Jacob Barrington, Tom Lamb and young Josh French who have all departed the Raiders camp however the door will be open if you guys ever want to return to don the Raiders colours. So that’s about it, all the preparation has been done for probably what will be our biggest day in footy and netball this year and the best way to cap it off would be wins in all grades of footy and netball!. The AFL won’t have it all their own way now with our league kicking off for season 2021, wonder how the men in control of our games will go this year, those down south seem to have their own rules at times!.

TYNTYNDER A P R I L 1 0 VS BA R H A M Welcome Back! After a lengthy and enforced layoff due to the Covid virus it will be great to see the red, white & blue colours on the fields and netball courts again in 2021. Let’s hope for a relatively normal season ahead and make sure we adhere to the Covid regulations and guidelines currently in place. Whilst there was not a footy kicked or netball thrown in 2020, Tyntynder FNC have been still been busy and continued with preparations to make sure our return to competition is successful and build on momentum achieved in recent years. To that point we must acknowledge the outstanding efforts of the 2020 outgoing executive committee and members and commend them on the healthy position the Club currently holds, and in turn congratulate the newly elected committee on stepping up to guide the TFNC forward. The cancelled 2020 season presented many challenges to all community sporting clubs. The Tyntynder FNC would like to extend our gratitude to all much-valued club sponsors & partners whose support both in 2020 and the upcoming season is greatly appreciated and recognised as crucial in the return to community sport. Please make sure we rally behind our sponsors and support those who support us.

Football Auskick Our first Auskick session will be held on Thursday April the 15th with new Co-ordinator Marcus Nalder in charge. We are extremely fortunate to have Marcus committed to introducing our boys & girls to to the fundamentals of football and it will be sure to be a fun & exciting program in 2021. Registrations for Auskick can be completed online at Auskick 2021 Registration | Play.AFL and by selecting Tyntynder as your club. Under 12

Our next generation Pups will be ably guided by new coach Rick Blake who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to help the development of our youngest junior team. The boys have been training hard for a few weeks now and look fit & raring to go against the Raiders in their first game.

Under 14.5 Numbers on the track are extremely positive for our under 14.5 team and will be under the guidance of newly appointed coach Dale Jager. Dale has a great knowledge and enthusiasm for the game and has a long playing and umpiring history in the CMFNL. Let’s hope our boys can follow up on their good work of playing finals in 2019! Colts Our Colts boys are extremely lucky to have a couple of our home-grown senior players Elliot Broad & Patrick Crowe leading them into the 2021 Season. Unfortunately, the year off in 2020 has seen a drop off in our Colts numbers and encourage any new or past players looking for a game to get in touch with the club and will be made more than welcome. Please get behind the new coaches and players this week and support a group that whilst a bit low on numbers still has plenty of talent and future prospects. Reserves They say two heads are better than one and is definitely the case with the Featherby brothers Ted (Shane) & Dipper (Darren) taking on joint coaching roles of the Reserves. It is amazing to see the numbers on the training track multiply each night as the season draws closer and look forward to fielding a competitive side this week against the Raiders. Seniors ‘Home is where the heart is’ and that is true of our senior line up in 2021. Justin Ellis returns to the senior coaching position with Thomas Gilbert stepping up to the Assistant Coach role as well as sharing captaincy duties with the returning Marcus Wattie. The recruiting team has been busy in the off season with a focus on developing a strong ‘home-grown’ list of players whilst also adding some fresh faces to the squad. Let’s get behind Justin and the boys as they continue to build on improvement in 2019 with a young, tight knit group capable of achieving greater heights in 2021! Social Following the game at Barham let’s make sure we all get back to major sponsor and the newly renovated

Following the game against Woorinen on April 17th we will be rotating with our annual Rotating Dinner, it is always a highlight of the social calendar and thank Anne Wattie and co for their co-ordination. Stay tuned for further updates on the social calendar and keep an eye on our social media platforms for more news. We must also say a big thanks to our technology partner Jason at BGR Development with his in-kind development of our club website moving us into the twentieth century. Please check out the new website https://www.tyntynderfnc.com/ for all you merchandise, membership and club news. Look forward to seeing the Bulldog army this week at the season opening launch of the Raiders new facility and wish all teams the best and let’s make sure we show our true colours

Netball The enthusiasm levels on the courts have been through the roof with newly appointed coaches in all grades. Premiership gun defender Bridget Dedini takes over the reins for the A Grade squad and is pleased with the addition of some new and young players to the Club and excited for the season ahead. We also see the return of the ever popular Millie Opt Hoog as our A Res Coach and under her guidance look forward to a strong season with a very talented group of girls. Supermum Nikita Devereux steps into the role of B Grade coach and is looking forward to sharing her invaluable knowledge while having fun at the same time with her squad. Lisa Baumgurtel returns to the coaching role of our B Res team and will be great to have her in charge of a young group of girls looking to learn and have a good time. Our junior netball teams also have newly appointed coaches across all grades and are excited to see what our next generation can achieve with plenty of talent on hand. Our Under 18 girls will be led by incoming talented netballer Nichola Miliano and wish her all the best in 2021. The Under 16 squad are fortunate to have gun defender Bridgette King as their coach and mentor, and great to see another Devereux in the form of Tegan stepping up to lead our Under 14’s. Another Home-grown product in Taylah Woodward has joined our coaching ranks and look forward to seeing her and our Under 12 continue their development and enjoy their time on the court.
