One thing I learned having a year off footy and netball last year was that it isn’t hard to find other things to do with cold winter Saturdays! It was nice to have an extra day at home to get things done. No cold winter Thursday nights at training and no meeting deadlines for team selections or record notes. Many people I spoke to were concerned that this new found freedom from the commitment to footy and netball would make it difficult to get people back involved. My enthusiasm was pretty low and I couldn’t imagine going back to the work that is involved in being part of a busy sporting club. Then we had our AGM and elected several new Committee members whose enthusiasm and commitment was infectious. We had meetings and working bees and informal chats together. Recruiting started and looking for coaches and with every signing the interest grew. Things started to get done around the club (things that we had
conveniently forgotten needed doing in the whole year we could have organised to get them done!). Pre season started and once the ground was watered and we were training on it things really started to ramp up. Slowly but surely there were more faces appearing at the Club and the buzz began. Fast forward to last Thursday before Round 1 and the clubrooms were full (in a COVID compliant way), and the excitement for the coming season was felt by everyone. In the strange and uncertain year that was 2020 it was very easy to forget how important our little community clubs are and how important all the people involved are to each other. It is sad to say that we have taken for granted for so many years what our clubs mean to us and it is great to appreciate again what a huge part they play in our lives. Have a great season everyone. We look forward to catching up with you all and renewing old friendships and old rivalries!

Over a decade sponsoring Country Football. Over 30 years helping keep workplaces safe.
PROUDLY SUPPORTING COUNTRY VICTORIANS VWA 1007_FootyRecord_210x148_Football_CMYK_V3.indd 1 WorkSafe is proud to once again support AFL
Vic Country for the much-anticipated 2021 season. We have been closely associated with country football and netball since 2002 and it’s a partnership we are passionate about, as it plays such a significant role in the health, safety and wellbeing of regional and rural communities. For many country Victorians weekends centre around going to the local ground to watch the football and netball. It unites communities with common purpose, and it helps everyone stay connected. After a year of being socially isolated from family, friends, colleagues and team-mates, this has never been more important. Together we need to re-establish those connections and look out for the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in our community. This year WorkSafe will continue to work alongside local clubs and leagues to promote workplace safety, so we can ensure all workers make it home and get to do the things they love, like playing sport each and every day. When our workers are safe, we’ll see them on the field. We’ll see them on the court. Or we’ll see them on the sidelines. In country areas we know a large part of staying safe at work is staying safe on farms. Sadly we know far too many workers are being killed or seriously injured on farms every year.

WorkSafe’s new agriculture campaign “It’s never you, until it is” shows how easily an ordinary day can turn to tragedy and how small decisions can have life-changing consequences.
6/04/2016 4:20 PM This isn’t about us telling farmers and those in the agriculture industry what to do, but reminding them that accidents can and do happen.
We want to change the bullet-proof attitudes that many farmers have, that an accident, serious injury or fatality will not happen to them. That an ordinary day can turn to tragedy and have life-changing consequences for the farmer, workers, family and the farm’s future. WorkSafe can’t do this alone, that’s why we value this partnership so much. When the season was cancelled last year because of COVID-19, we put in place an alternative WorkSafe Country Club Challenge. This created a space to allow clubs to still engage with each other and the wider community. But it didn’t fully replace the comraderie and of course the fierce competitiveness of playing against each other every weekend. We look forward to again embracing that competitive spirit and to meeting you at a Country Club Game throughout the season and through the @CountryClubHub group on Facebook. We are here to support you and our Club Safety Fund offers financial support to clubs who have initiatives to make their players and supporters safer. Because when we work together we can get the message out that workplace safety is everyone’s responsibility. COLIN RADFORD CHIEF EXECUTIVE WORKSAFE VICTORIA

BRINGING WOMEN’S FOOTBALL TO THE REGION! We train twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday at the Kerang Football Club Ground. We cater to all skills and fitness levels and encourage women to have and go and give their best at training and on game day. We are fortunate enough to partake in the Kick to Advantage Clinic each season to fine tune our kicking by improving the kicking skills of all of our players.
The Woorinen Youth Girls is aimed at young female footballers aged 13-18. Our program is providing a pathway for girls in our community and region to play Aussie Rules Football. Woorinen Youth Girls is the one and only youth girls team in the region, competing in Bendigo Junior Football League each Sunday. We are a regional club who welcomes all players - with some of our girls travelling from Sea Lake, Kerang and Koondrook and their commitment is commendable. Our goal is participation - giving females the opportunity to play the great game of aussie rules. To have this program here in our community is just another chance for our youth to be involved in a positive environment and to inspire them to chase a dream. Perhaps their dream is be the next Alanna Woodward (Richmond), Eden Zanker (Melbourne) or Tessa Lavey (Richmond) who are all playing AFLW, fantastic role models and wonderful supporters of our program. The Kerang Women’s Football team is the regions only Senior Women’s side which is based in Kerang and plays under the colours of the Kerang Football and Netball Club.
We are looking at strengthening the relationship with Woorinen Youth Girls by organising regular training sessions with them and organising Double Headers where the Youth Girls play as the curtain raiser to the Women’s game. This opens a stronger connectedness of women’s football in our region from grassroots to senior football. Like Kerang’s Alana Woodward who was drafted to Richmond in the VFL in 2018 then into Richmond’s AFLW side in 2020 we are providing women in our region an incentive to follow their football dream. In 2021 we aim as a region to keep building on female participation and hope to see more females playing our great game. This is either at Auskick, junior community level, youth girls or women’s football. We also encourage so many women to take up roles in coaching, administration, and umpiring. Our game is for everyone.
SO IF YOU LIKE FOOTBALL AND WANT TO GIVE IT A GO, REACH OUT!
Kerang plays in the Central Victoria Football League Women’s on Sundays. We wear the traditional Navy Blue Guernsey for home games and an alternative lighter blue Guernsey on away games. This is a first for any team that has taken the field for Kerang to have alternative jumpers.

TYNTYNDER A P R I L 24 VS M A L L E E E AG L E S A big welcome to the Kennel for our first home game of the 2021 Season. The footy shed’s have been buzzing, the kitchen crew have done weeks of record Thursday night meals in a row and we are just so grateful that were back at Alan Garden Reserve to host Mallee Eagles today. Our Junior netball program starts today and our little pups will be led by Rose Crowe (well done Rosie!) and everyone is welcome who is aged between 5-10. The program will be running from 10am – 10.30pm on home games over at the Courts. Football: Auskick Auskick with Marcus is going great guns we’ve had over 50 on the ground at times, we’re really enjoying seeing Parent’s putting their hand up to participate in the sessions too. Under 12 A great game of footy on Saturday. They did it all, smothers, worked together, encouragement and looked like footballers. Awards: Mitch Kelly, Bodie Spence, Charlie Blake, Dec Kelly, Ethan Clarke Under 14 The under 14 boys gave their all and can be proud of their efforts against a strong tigers team. Awards: Sam Fielder, Bailey Clarke, Harry Kelly, Jaxon Hughes, Lodie McDonald, Chalie Eastwood. Colts The colts are a pretty new team and are improving with every hit out. Keep an eye on them as they will finish strongly. Best players – Tristan Dalbon, Mitchell Grinham, Liam White, Eddy Schifferle, Darcy Woodward
Reserves A much improved performance on last week, the boys even managed a couple of goals. Fitness still seems to be this team’s downfall which can be turned around by a few more training sessions!! Best players – Paul Strugnell, Craig Maxwell, Billy Schifferle, Brodie Gibbons, Trae Atkinson, Jayden Boutkan. Seniors In another tight tussle the dogs had a loss, the lead see-sawed again keeping the spectators on their toes. There was lots of promising signs from the doggies particularly from the young pups who are only going to keep getting better. Best players – Lachy Carroll, Tom Sala, Cayden Crowe, Pat Crowe, Marcus Wattie and Brodie Carroll. Netball: A Grade We were out defended on the day but we’re excited about what this team can do moving forward this season. Awards: Kelsey Rowe & Bridget Dedini. A Reserve An amazing game to watch the girls play out. It was the girls;’ first game together after missing last week, they were seamless on the court. Awards: Bridget King& Holly Rogers B Grade Hard fought at both ends of the court. Goalies worked really well feeding off one another. Massive improvement, unfortunately couldn’t get across the line. Awards: Taylah Woodward & Kim Calvert

B Reserve This was a great game to watch with a new and full side. Lisa will be working over the coming weeks to try new court play and combos that work best. Awards: Bonnie Kelly & Brittany Dunstone Under 18 Fought hard to try and get across the line and did well as a new team. These girls stood their ground and remained positive throughout which is the spirit we like to see. Awards: Millie Hatcher & Tahni Smith Under 16 What a nail bighter?! Great game with heaps of improvement from last week. A great game fought out closely to the end. Keep it up girls! Awards: Amidel Sait & Millie Derbas Under 14 These girls put up a great fight against Woorinen this week despite missing a few of their defensive stars to basketball. Each quarter they got better and better. Awards: Milla Nalder& Lainey Styles Under 12 These young girls are really enjoying their games each week, there are smiles all round. These girls are taking everything on board that they’re taught and we’re seeing improvements from week to week. Awards: Kieley Styles & Lily Treacy Social Tonight we invite you all upstairs for a meal and drinks! Kids tea will be ready early. It will be great to be upstairs together again tonight.

KOONDROOK BARHAM A P R I L 24 VS L A K E B O GA Well after two huge home games to start the season off a few of the Raiders hierarchy and volunteers will be looking for a rest, again a multitude of people rocked up to Raiders Central last Saturday to watch our footballers and netballers go through their paces. To all the volunteers who pitched in to help on the day a big thanks from the club because without you the club just wouldn’t function, it is great to see so many giving a hand! Unfortunately some results didn’t go the way we wanted them to, the Seniors finished second again, the Ressy’s couldn’t continue on with their form from the previous week, but our mighty Colts got the job done for us with a huge win. I see the A Grade netballers continued on with their good form chalking up another win, a perfect start to the year for them! It was good to see the Langwarrin boys up again after missing their trip in 2020, they certainly kept the people serving the “refreshments” busy, think a few locals got tangled up with them to!. Huge congrats to Chester Gardner, Jack Lambert and young Dominic Dick O’Flaherty on playing their first senior game with the Raiders, a fantastic effort. On to the footy, the Seniors went into their game missing a few players from the week before which was always going to make it a that much harder, especially when over half the team is under 21! The young Raiders did well though as the Kangas tried to put us to the sword many times but we always hung in there, probably could have made better use of our opportunities though, something we have to do!
Awards: Paddy Goble, Reagan Hamilton, Max Baldissera & Kye Attwell. Auction Players for the 1st two rounds have gone to Jake Dick O’Flaherty and Pat Goble. The Ressy’s could’nt carry on with their form from the previous week but that can probably be put down to having a vastly different side to the week before!. Players were unavailable, promoted to the Seniors or even injured, factors they could not overcome. Big thanks to the Colts players who made up the numbers, they were Josh McMahon, Jordan Bassett, Trinity Starr & Jasper WilsonKeir & Brad Randall, well done boys. Also good to see Josh French & Brad Heffer back in the Raiders colours. Awards: Jackson Flisher ,Danyon Williams, Rylan Attwell and Josh Mc Mahon (Raiders Canteen award). Auction Players for the first two games were Chester Gardner and Jackson Flischer. The Colts were our stars for the day, albeit against a very undermanned Kangas team, but a win is a win and we’ll take it, two outa two is a great start to the year so let’s keep it rolling boys!. Awards: Josh Mc Mahon, Will Lake, Eli Boyd, and Jaspar Wilson-Keir. Tough game this week boys but I’m sure you’re up to it!. This week we travel to Lake Boga to play one of our excoaches team, it won’t be an easy task either, but we have to get on the board sooner than later and this week is the time to do it, reckon VFL Legend John Kennedy said something like that, “don’t think, just do”. NYAH NYAH WEST UNITED A P R I L 24 VS N . N .W. U N I T E D We travelled to Balranald to start the season off. We were greeted by a nice day and despite not all the results going our way, it was great to get back together and enjoy being at the football and netball. This week we host Swan Hill in our first home game of the season. Congratulations to Jacob Pitts – 50 club games last week, Ben Shadbolt – 50 club games & Adrian Knee – 150 senior games; on achieving these milestones with our club – great efforts. Congratulations also to our young footballer, Liam Shadbolt, who recently won the Australian Under 15 High Jump title at the recent national track & field championships. FOOTBALL RESULTS Seniors: NNWU 6.10.46 lost to Balranald 14.14.98 The Seniors started off well, with most of the first quarter a close encounter. However, a couple of late goals to Balranald saw them take the advantage into the quarter time break. From there, Balranald were too good for our boys and ended up recording a good win. Although the boys will be disappointed with the game, they will be ready to produce a better effort against a tough Swan Hill side. Best players: Jake Wilkinson, Jaydyn Stirling, Corey Daniels, Alex Erlandson, Joel Walsh & Owen Harrop. Reserves: NNWU 15.9.99 defeated Balranald 1.3.9 The Reserves, led by Johnny & MJ, started the year off well, playing good team footy to record a good win. It was fantastic to see the new players fit in so well in their first games. Doey’s Meats Award – Tim O’Brien; Tasco Award – Matt Bellinger; Grand Hotel Award – Riley Haberman; Drover Contracting – Clinton Edge; Swan Hill Pool & Spa and Swan Hill Garage Doors Most Determined – Cooper Charles Under 14.5: NNWU 14.11.95 defeated Balranald 2.1.13 The Under 14.5’s played a good brand of footy for first game of the season. It was pleasing to see them put into practice some of the things that they have been doing at training.
Murray’s Incentive – Tyler Gadsby; Coaches Award – Oaklea Bird; V & S Andrews Award – Murdoch McKenzie; Club socks – Muddy McInnes Under 12: NNWU vs Balranald Everyone looks like they had a lot of fun and we will no doubt see lots of improvement over the season ahead. Coaches Award – Isaiah Blair; Growtek – Stuart Howard; Classic Fish Shop – Elijah Curran; Club socks – Aiden Rogers NETBALL RESULTS A mixed bag of results for the netballers, with a couple of wins for the day. After the game this week, we have the iPod shuffle and Anything But Cups Night. It sounds interesting and should be plenty of fun. ANZAC DAY The local ANZAC Day Dawn Service will be held again this year at the Nyah Memorial Gates, with assembly at 5.50AM for a 6.00AM service tomorrow. We will be hosting breakfast after the ceremony, with a gold coin donation. Good luck to all football and netball teams today. Go Dees.

TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG A P R I L 24 VS WO O R I N E N Today we welcome Woorinen to Tooleybuc for our first home game of the season in what will be another challenging day for all the football teams. Last weekend was a tough day on the footy field for all teams with the seniors especially finding it hard to have an impact on the scoreboard. Best players – Murray Ogle, Ben Sheridan, Gareth Grant, Lachy Gleeson & Shannon Milward. Mallee Physio Award – Murray Ogle. The ressies had some promising passages of play & in the end came up just short against a strong Kerang outfit. Awards: Tooleybuc Sporting Club – Ryan O’Shannasy, Swan Hill Packaging – Brenton Chislett, Mallee Physio – Tom Matarazzo, Amaretto Almonds – Jackson Wolfe. The colts had a tough start to the season which wasn’t aided by the fact they had 2 less players on the ground for the first quarter & a half. Once the player numbers became even so did the game
with the boys just not quite able to generate as many scores as Kerang from their forward 50 entries. Awards: West Farmers Insurance – Colby Elford, Sunrise Ag – Johbi Plant, Mallee Physio – Mackie Rogers, Pooles – Harper McNicol. The U14’s also found Kerang a very strong opponent but showed great endeavour for the whole game. Awards: JA Electrical – Rylee Taylor, Pearsons Grain – Jules Muir, West Farmers Insurance – Rhys Bergman, Subway – Linc Benfield. The U12’s bucked the trend & put in the best performance of the day with everyone putting in a great effort. WANDELLA A P R I L 24 VS H AY Gorgeous weather to kick off Round 1 and the day started with Chum’s Under 11 game with plenty of enthusiastic participants. Thanks Chum for taking on the extra role of getting that game up and running-it is a real positive for our Club. The Under 14.5 had a great win and seemed to enjoy the change of time slots getting to play the earlier game. Awards: Tilburn Welding-Myles Greenwood, J & M Manufacturing-Abraham Keating, Nutrien Ag-Archer Lancaster, Graeme Hayes Real Estate-Ronnie Dowdy. Unfortunately the Under17.5 came up against a very tall and polished Moulamein outfit and couldn’t match the Swans. It was great though to see so many new faces in the side and the boys will improve as the season progresses and they play together more. Awards: Max Wilson Tyres-Blair Selleck, Choice Cut Butchers-Andrew Charles, Sportspower Kerang-Ian Charles. The Reserves had a big win and looked confident all over the ground. Rowie’s hard work recruiting has certainly paid off and he has put together a great side. With the combination of new players, thirds playing up for the first time and the old stagers fronting up again it is looking good for the rest of the season. Great to see Jack Pay pulling on the boots again-he certainly hasn’t lost his touch and it is great to see him back around the club. Awards: Matt Wilkinson Plumbing-Bailey Hamon, Arnoldt & Greenwood-Ryan Jardine, Mogas-Mitch Southern, Hall & Sons-Tyson Hay. The seniors started slowly and handed a well oiled Moulamein outfit a big lead in the first half. The boys
found it hard to find answers to Moula’s speed and skill for two quarters. Thankfully some wise words from the experienced campaigner, coach Roughie, had the boys up and about in the second half and they made a game of it. Inaccuracy cost us dearly and we ran out of time to peg back the lead. Considering the first hal, a 9 point loss was a better result than it might have been. Sporties Award- 3-Darren Rushton, 2-Tim Robinson, 1-Logan Keighran Poodle Excavations Best Team Player- 3-Tim Robinson, 2-Will Callow, 1-Matt Wilkinson. A mixed bag of netball results. To say we are proud of what this new team achieved this week would be an understatement. The girls came out firing in the first 3 quarters but just weren’t able to get the win in the last quarter. Seniors Football Moulamein Defeated Wandella Pewter- Michael Morson With so many new recruits it took a quarter for us to find our rhythm but going into half time winning that was a goal we had set. The second half was a tough battle due to this being the first game of football in over 12 months which caused a lot of tired legs. We’ll continue working hard to ensure we play 4 strong quarters each week and keep the momentum going.

MURRABIT A P R I L 24 VS M OU L A M E I N Football What a feeling it was to get to round 1 for 2021! After two preseasons it was great to get the players out on the park. The U14.5’s played some great football in an enjoyable game to watch. We had a good spread of goal kickers, despite this the boys went down by just over two straight kicks. Awards: Noah Shea, Kye McKerrow, Chase Coulter, Harrison Maher & Angus McDonald. Our 3rds were outsized against a strong Ultima team. Despite this the coached encouraged the boys to keep the pressure up and follow the game plan.We had several players playing their first game in the 3rds and it was great to see Sam Copland score his first goal and the only goal for the game. Award Winners: Declan Lavery, Ben Maher, Kevin Doolan, Fee Khongphueng & Clancy Leahy. With some impressive passages of play the coach was pleased with the game was played. Great to have Rhys ‘Nugget’ Neville back and the inclusion of former coach Roota’s and his move to deep forward was effective with 6 goals. Award Winners: Nugget Neville, Adam Bujdoso, Sean Gillen & Darren Bray Our Senior Coaches Mick O’Toole and Leigh Millard have been eagerly awaiting the start of 2021. As well as welcoming back Tom Copland to the club we also have a number of new players into the senior team for Round 1 including Kyle Keane, Aaron Danson, Michael Grant, Toby Gray and Rylan Delamare. It is also great to see Jordan McNeil play his first Senior game for the club! It was a hot contest early with our boys kicking into a slight breeze. In the end a great first up win for the club and a welcomed
return to football. Award Winners: Jordan McNeil, Nathan Morrow & Brayden Turvey. Netball It was a great start to the season with 4/5 wins for the day. The A grade only took a quarter to really fire up and from there the game was theirs, holding Ultima to just 3 goals in the second quarter really set up the win. Defensive pressure from Kayla Casey and Mary Yates-Ward across the transverse line was a standout. The B grade took a little to settle with a new look line up but the signs look promising for a good year, once the team really gels. There’s just so much versatility over the court with this team. Jess Bray was dynamic bringing the ball into attack and Kayla Casey was tough to get past in defence. The B res girls had a great game, working the ball down the court well. Tyler Harrison proved to be too strong in defence and Sharni Maher ran out a great game in the mid court in what ended up a big win on the scoreboard. The 17s had a tough game against a handy Ultima side but with some new and young faces the future looks bright for these girls. Awards: Jessie Teasdale for her defensive pressure and Kate whorwood was handy in the mid court. The 14s game was fairly close except for a big third quarter when the girls really charged ahead on the scoreboard, Evie McKnight shot some beautiful goals and Charlotte Baluch got lots of ball back in defence Tonight after the game make sure we head back to the Barham Hotel for a meal of drink.

MACORNA TIGERS A P R I L 24 VS Q UA M BATO O K Football Fourths – Welcome back to Footy!! The changes in the kids skills, height & speed have ben significant since we last saw them in 2019. They put on a brilliant display of footy against the Hay Lions. Super efforts in the backline with Lachy& Jack standing up. Through the centre Sam, Broden & Will and forwards making good decisions and second efforts, Cooper Carmicheal. Awards: MMWFP - Cooper Carmichael, MRW – Jack Warren, Wilson Transport– Lachy Farrell, Tonkin award – Sam Whinfield Thirds – Our boys kicked off the year with a tough hit out against Hay. They got the jump on us early, and we really battered it out. Awards: Blake Forster, Alby Bear, Hunter Anset Seconds – Welcome back and what a day! Boys moved the ball very well and it was great to watch. Thanks to all the team and the effort they put in, it’s a great start to the year. Awards: Longy, Atkie, Shan Mac Seniors – Some new faces in the side and a good mix of young and old. It was goal for goal for most of the day. Effort from the team shone through and a “never give up’ attitude gave us the win. Best on were Simo, Stiz, Matt Hinkes, Carrots, Jake Macca, Charlie Hinkes. Netball F Troop - We had 6 young girls which were all very nervous. Out of our 6 girls that took to the court 4 of these had never played netball before, we had only had 1 training together before Saturday and WOW what a fantastic job they all did, we are so proud of you all. Also, a
thank you to Hay for lending us some of their girls to fill in our team while Grace Carter was away. U14 - The under 14s had a hard battle that went until the last whistle. Even though we went down by 1 goal we were so happy with how everyone played. We know if we try hard, we will get better every week. Zoe Pollock was strong for us in goals and Miley Ansett in attack. U17 – Hard work pays off! Everything that we have been learning at training was put into practise on Saturday and it showed! There were some beautiful passages of play with lots of space and talk on the court. The A graders were impressed and gave awards to Ellie & Tahlia. B res -What a way to start the season to get our first win on the board! The girls played an amazing game, they all moved the ball beautifully down the court. Every one of them should be extremely proud of their efforts on the court. Awards Robyn and Haylee B Grade - What a game to kick off the season! Kara & Denai used their height to their advantage and pushed Hay’s goalies at every chance. Jordyn & Taylahs constant voice & pressure were invaluable while Leeza & Sherri moved the ball perfectly. Katrina & Sam read each other well and shot some beautiful goals. Exchange award- Leeza Wishart & Husk- Kara Farrell. A grade It was a physical, athletic, high tempo game filled with emotion, but we got over the line by 7. We welcome Madi Purvis, Sam Drover, Erin Delahunty, Renee Deason, Hannah Dee, Jasmine Williams, Kara Farrell to A Grade this season, joining Laura Bennie, Cat Whinfield and Meg Cooke. Best players: Bennetts: Renee Deason and Waffles: Jasmine Williams.

ULTIMA A P R I L 24 VS N U L L AW I L Last week we headed to Murrabit to open our season after a long layoff, it was great to be back playing football and netball. Everybody was welcoming as we reacquainted ourselves to our Saturday routines. Our Under 14.5’s got the show on the road kicking the dew off the ground with a hard fought win, Nathan and his support crew did a fabulous job in making sure everybody was ready to go. The Under 17.5’s led by Warwick Grey followed up with a great win to allow our new recruits to sing the song for the first time. Our Reserves weren’t so fortunate coming up against a much stronger Murrabit side, no doubt Luke & Corey will have a few more training during the week as we take on Nully today. The Seniors returned with a lot of new faces under joint coaches Brodie & Kylie. The result wasn’t what we wanted but was probably to be expected given the changes we had in the last 18 months. Today is our annual Anzac Day match against Nullawil and will include a service prior to the Seniors and the awarding of trophies & best on ground medals for both Football and Netball. We are grateful for the support that the Swan RSL sub branch provides to us throughout the season and especially on this day. Donation tins will be on the gate and around the ground to support the RSL’s Anzac appeal. All funds raised go towards supporting local veterans and their familis, so please dig deep and give generously. We welcome everyone and in particular veterans today as we take a moment to remember those who fought & served our nation for the freedom we enjoy today. Ultima Netball- Round 1 12 & Under The 12 & Under girls were extremely excited and ready to hit the courts. We were definitely lacking in the height
department and although we only scored one goal for the day the girls kept their heads up and continued to fight for the ball. NULLAWIL A P R I L 24 VS U LT I M A Sunny conditions greeted us last Saturday as we welcomed the Quambatook Football Netball Club to our home ground in a long-awaited return to local football and netball. It was great to see a healthy crowd in attendance enjoying the day. A big welcome to all new players and supporters to the club. The highlight of the day was the unfurling of the 2019 premiership flag, with life member Ron Pollington given the honours of the unfurling. The football day kicked off with the under 14’s participating in a ‘scratch match’ with some of the Quamby juniors. It looked as if everyone enjoyed having a run around to commence the season. The Reserves took to the field with a fair mix of experience and youth, and it didn’t take long for some of the experienced boys to take control of the game. The final score Nully 23.10 - 148 defeating Quamby 1.4 – 10. Better players were J.Vearing, M.Hawyard, L.Whitbourne, A.Smith and C.Fawcett. Wimmera Mallee Accounting votes were awarded to C.Fawcett (3 votes), J.Morrison (3 votes), J.Vearing (2 votes) and R.Free (2 votes) The Seniors had a solid hit out against a very competitive Quamby outfit. With the aid of the breeze a 5-goal lead was established at quarter time, and the boys were never headed as the game went on. Final Scores Nullawil 18.18 – 126 to Quamby 7.7 – 49. Better players were M.Farmer,
M.Quigley, P.Kelly, B.Barker, R.Smith and A.Casey. North West Ag votes went to A.Casey (3 votes), M.Quigley (2 votes), M.Farmer (2 votes), P.Kelly (2 votes), J.Bamford (1 vote). NETBALL The F Troop girls were busting for a run with lots of fun and this they did with lots of enthusiasm and smiles. Kelly Hogan had her eye in as the goals were flowing. Well done to all the girls. The new looking B grade team were out to impress right from the first whistle to the last as they kept the fast momentum going throughout the four quarters. New star recruit Maddy Smith was brilliant in defence as was Gemma Fawcett down the other end of the court putting the goals in. Nullawil 37 d Quambatook 2. The ever reliable B reserve picked up from the 2019 Grand Final and didn’t disappoint with the strong defence duo of Kate and Amy unstoppable, whist the newly appointed captain Lizzy was at her usual best putting the goals in. Nullawil 70 def Quambatook 4. The evening finished with delicious pizzas cooked by Murray Mallee Wood Fired Pizzas, and Tony Haley playing acoustic tunes into the night. The first Mighty Maroons Big Draw winner taking home $1,000 was ticket 44 – Luke Murray. Today we take on Ultima at their home ground, which is always a tough assignment. Good luck to all participants today.
