WORDS FROM OUR CLUBS N YA H N YA H W E ST U N I T E D

The Nyah Nyah West United Club would like to welcome everyone this week and congratulate all who have participated, came to watch or volunteered so far. It is wonderful to have community sport back in our lives again. The club has worked hard over the shut down to maintain a presence in our local community. A community connection is very important and we once again supplied the breakfast for ANZAC day after our local service. It was great to see so many volunteers line up to serve the community. Thank you to all who came along and of course to those who served our great nation. The new netball courts have performed magnificently and we must thank Coburns Earthmoving for the great job they did on them and the support we received from Swan Hill Rural City Council to get the grants and manage the project. Its great to see the girls have such good facilities.

This years annual Fishing Competition was a great

success for the club with 80 plus boats involved. Although we had a set back with the snap shut down in Feb we were able to rally together and put on the event in March with great support from the community and visitors. Some good sized fish were also caught during the event and lots of reports of just under size Cod which would possibly be those that had been part of the clubs 10 years of fingerling releases. The Fishing Comp Committee will continue to work on local projects that benefit the local river environment. We are working closely with OZFish and encourage everyone to join our local Nyah OZFish chapter. Volunteers play a vital role in the success of our club, and we need you to join our team! We value your unique abilities. We will work with you so you develop new skills and are supported . If we ask you to step up please consider it, you get to work with some wonderful people and will enjoy your day. To all the players, supporters and members please enjoy your sport today and for the remainder of the season. If anything came from last years lock down it should be how lucky we are to have a club, a community and home as good as this.

GO DEES.

COHUNA KANGAS M AY 8 VS M A L L E E E AG L E S 12 & Under Kangas 0 lost to Woorinen 40 Another tough game for the girls today. Woorinen shown to be a strong side for our girls to play against, however, we stayed hopeful for a goal throughout all 4 quarters. Best players this week were Matilda Matthews, Pippa Reid and Isabella Parker.

B Grade Kangas 29 lost to Woorinen 56

14 & Under Kangas 26 drew Woorinen 26 This was an amazing game to watch. All girls were playing well and the game was close at the end of every quarter, resulting in a draw at the final whistle.

A Reserve Kangas 32 lost to Woorinen 56 We had a good first half. Danni came out strong with a few intercepts and shooters finished off well. The third quarter saw us drop away. Best players were defenders Breanna Wilson and Aimee Lunghusen.

16 & Under Kangas 66 def Woorinen 16 The girls played a fantastic game in the hotter conditions. Their defensive pressure again was amazing all over the court. Best players were Makayla Heap, Harmony Taylor and Daisy McGlone. 18 & Under Kangas 52 def Woorinen 44 It was a hard fought game in tough humid conditions. The girls worked hard all game. The score not reflecting the feel of the game. Best players were Lucy Palmer and Cora Borchard. B Reserve Kangas 57 def Woorinen 37 The scores today did not show what a hard fought game this was in hot weather. It was a close first quarter, but after a couple of changes we started to make Woorinen work very hard to get the ball in the ring. Awards went to Catrina Robinson, Annie Palmer and Alyce Mathers.

A tough fight will the very end, great game by Skye Perry in her first game back. Great work by our defenders who fought for every ball. Bad Luck girls, we will look towards next week!

A Grade Kangas 26 lost to Woorinen 53 Today was the test to see where we sit against the big guns. Whilst the score line doesn’t reflect it, we were not disappointed with our efforts. MALLEE EAGLES M AY 8 VS C O H U N A K A N GAS What a great day to be at the Lalbert Recreation Reserve last Saturday. Beautiful Autumn weather, excellent crowd in, Gray’s Bakery Pie’s selling fast keeping Maree and our Canteen volunteers busy, 3SH broadcasting the Seniors, the oval looked a picture, and Drew was serving up cold beverages well after the sun had disappeared. I mean what more could you want? More . . . how about the fact we won 11 out of the 12 games of Footy and Netty on the day. Don’t worry U14 girls, hopefully a win is not too far away! What about our Community Centre - new carpet throughout - thank you to the volunteers behind the Lalbert Recreation and Community Group and the Gannawarra Shire. Heard nothing but compliments about the carpet and it’s colour all night. Well done! Special mention to Lizard, Col, Wes & Ben who have all done their bit with oval maintenance. With a broken water pipe happening right before Easter, meaning no watering for one of the warmest Easter’s in years, the hard work done to get the oval spot on looked dashed. But plenty of watering and overtime on the mower really paid dividends. Even the 3SH guys broadcasting the game made a special mention congratulating our groundsmen - so from all of us, WELL DONE!!! (Only 7 more home games to go - no pressure) To everyone who was rostered on Saturday, thank you! To those who stepped into a role on the day, an even

bigger THANK YOU! No surprises here, but two such wonderful people were Margy and Col Shepherd. Thanks not just for Saturday, but for everything you do! On a sad note, the club sends it’s best wishes to Eryne Alexander and family for the loss of their much loved Nana Lou, who passed away at 104 years of age. We hope the many happy memories can give you smiles at this time. So today we are in Cohuna, one of our longest trips of the year, The Seniors clash looks like being a beauty, but hopefully we as a club can once again walk away with more wins than losses by the end of the day. It is bound to be a happy trip home, win loose or draw, for those embarking on the Social Club’s Pub Crawl home. Don’t play up too much or Meg will boot you of the Bus, nah Meg is too smart to do that, you might just accidentally get left behind at one of the stops along the way. Bound to be many good stories from this trip, true or not, they will be entertaining. And don’t forget people, do the right thing by the club ensuring the Bus is returned just as it started the day. Everyone do their bit please! Something that was raised at our Club Respect Forum was making the effort to support each other, so if you usually only watch the footy, get across and watch some netty this week. You never know who you might meet! Same goes across the board, Seniors to Juniors, Netty to Footy. Plenty of new people in the club this year, so put on a smile, wear some Blue & Gold and let’s have some fun.

KOONDROOK BARHAM M AY 8 VS BA L R A N A L D Our injury list after the three games last weekend is as long as the Murray River, who has been running over the black cats around town, talk about bad luck!. It all started with the young boy Craig suffering a lower leg injury in the Colts game resulting in the ambulance having to be called, then in the Two’s Wazza Lolicato and Brad Heffer were both carried off the ground with ankle and shoulder injuries respectively, and finally in the Seniors, Kal Huntly’s hamstring decide to give way early in the game and then young Jack Shannon was knocked out in a contest forcing him off to hospital also, bloody hell what a day! Huge congratulations to Luke Fulton on reaching the 250 game milestone for the Raiders, a great effort and one that he should be proud of. I see the A Grade netballers are back on track with a return to the winners list, well done girls. Well done to Marshy for stepping up to do the senior umpiring, very good work by him!. Onto the footy and the old saying of bad kicking is bad footy really came to the fore in our game against Nyah Utd., reckon we are in a situation where we must make the most of our opportunities or the result will come back to bite us, and sure enough it did!. Awards for the Seniors went to one of our new players in Chester Gardner (Raiders “Man of the Day”), Chester has been an excellent pickup for the Raiders and has fitted into the team very well. Harley Burmeister (Royal Hotel Barham), better game from Harley who is really starting to fire now. Kye Attwell (Barham Hotel), Kye who gets higher than Joe Cocker when in the ruck hardly puts in a bad game, and Clay Davis (Nthn Tree Fellas), Clay is another

who is starting to find form again and his run and carry is a huge benefit to the team, others to play well were Jaryd Wishart and Reagan Hamilton. The Ressies went down again but still tried very hard to get their coach Chubby over the line in his 250th game. Awards went to Dave Cooper (Wes Hare Spraying “Scoob of the Day”), Dave is another new player to the club and is another very good acquisition. Jay Laursen (Royal Hotel Barham), Jaybird has made another return to the Raiders, how many now is it!, doesn’t matter though as he can still deliver the goods. Jay Skate (Barham Hotel), Skatey adds height and mobility to the side and when out there plays well and Sam Barr (Raiders Canteen award), Sammy attacked the ball well and reaped the rewards repelling quite a few attacks, others to play well were Chubby Fulton and Jackson Flischer. The Colts made it a trifecta of losses however at the last change were well and truly still in it. But, in the last qtr. the boys lost their way with skill errors, poor disposal resulting in missing their targets, and not manning up down back. Awards went to M.Mason (Royal Hotel Barham), Ned Mathers (Don Taylor Pen), Eli Boyd (Lane Electrical Socks) and B. Miller (Wilma Bott Canteen Award), others to play well were L. McInnes & J. Lowry. We need a win in all grades of footy and netball so let’s make the trip worthwhile and take the hop outa the Roos! The Back Bar

LAKE BOGA M AY 8 VS WO O R I N E N MAGPIE NATION, A mixed bag of result for both footy and netball away in Kerang but you get that against the bigger town clubs so the showing by all our teams was admirable. In U/12 footy it was a magpie goal fest in a one sided afair , another win unofficially.Best players were:Flynn Barnes, Jake Steer, Brody Stevens, Matt Haines, Call Arnett and Ryka Klomp. U/14s was adour struggle and a resounding win was the result. Best players were: Max Oreilly, Kai Everett, Meat Pye Jnr, Bully, Pat Dear, Noah Noble, Little Pidge and Coop Brymer. The Colts run into some physical opposition and ran out boyed by another strong win.The older boys led the way with the younger being amongst the team best. In the Twos scoreboard pressure was needed when it counted but didnt happen allowing a comfortable win to the opposition. By no means disgraced just not good enough on the day. In the main game our injury ravaged Senior boys were up against it from the start and were out-worked by a well drilled Blues unit. Great signs from our younger players with continuing signs of improvement , that and the continuing gelling of our new recruits will eventually get the result the whole club is longing for .Bring on the tigers. Our netball had some up and down results but no big differentials and all grades were competitive , the senior girls now looking for three in a row ,wouldnt that be awesome. 12 & Under went down by 8 against some bigger girls and are still learning how to play new position each week which is great Awards winners were Ruby Ryan and Karissa King

14& Under went down by a bit but highlights were a plety according to all magpie spectators .Best were: Bonnie White and Emme Keighran. 16& Under were a powerhouse and won easily by 35 .Best were Hayley Dickson and Moo Holt. 18& Under went down fighting and are still a work in progress. Best were Hannah Storer and Georgie Ayso. B Res were pipped in the dying minutes but great effort by all. Best were Lara Noble and Breanna Dickson. B Grade smashed the Blues in a polished performance in all areas of the game , with the ladies looking to back up next week. Best were Sandra Ewart and BJ Davies . A Res found the going tough and the heat of the day taking its toll on our magpie chickies , spirit was shown and now looking for better results Best were :Meg Rooney and Deri Singleton. In the main game the senior ladies built and built and built until the cruised into a comfortable victory over a highly favoured opposition .Fantastic result and the whole netball universe look forward to what will be game of the round .Best were : Chloe Taylor and Brucie Meehan. We now look to welcoming Woorinen to the nest, with a colorful past between the clubs theres sure to be no lack of enthusiasm between all teams , bring it on. Check your roster and social calender and keep on getting behind all our teams

NYAH NYAH WEST UNITED M AY 8 VS K E R A N G Last week we travelled down to Barham and visited the Raiders new facilities. The complex is very impressive, and congratulations must go to the Koondrook Barham club on the finished product. We had some excellent results in the football, especially the first win for the Seniors; while the netballers had another mixed bag. This week we host Kerang is what will be very tough games across all football and netball grades. Congratulations to Ethan Saville who plays his 50th club game. FOOTBALL RESULTS Seniors: NNWU 8.6.54 defeated Koondrook Barham 4.17.41 Finally. After a couple of tough weeks, the boys put in a much more spirited effort this week, showing a high level of intensity from the first bounce. While the game was close for the whole day, our boys didn’t panic and stuck to the game plan they have been working on, eventually earning a well deserved win. While we had the win last week, we have to back it up again against a very strong opponent this afternoon. However, if we stick to the things we do well, we will give ourselves a great shot at another victory. Best players: Brady Davidson, Blake Larkings, Jake Wilkinson, Zac Threadgold, Joel Walsh & Jaydyn Stirling. Players Player Award and Specialized Fitness Award – Brady Davidson Reserves: NNWU 11.8.74 defeated Koondrook Barham 7.7.49 The Reserves started slowly against the Raiders, but after some encouraging words at quarter time, the boys got going to play much better footy for the next 3 quarters to record a hard fought win. Doey’s Meats Award – Ben Shadbolt; Tasco Award – Rhys Burge; Grand Hotel Award – Jason Manning; Drover Contracting – Oliver Boulton; Swan Hill Pool & Spa and Swan Hill Garage Doors Most Determined – Clinton Edge Colts: NNWU 12.11.83 defeated Koondrook Barham 7.6.48 The Colts struggled to get going early in the game, but the boys lifted their game in the second half to run away with the game. The

boys need to show that effort for the whole game from now on. Under 14.5: NNWU 10.8.68 defeated Koondrook Barham 1.0.6 The Under 14.5’s played some very good team football again this week, putting into practice a lot of their training while having some fun at the same time. Under 12: NNWU vs Koondrook Barham It’s great to see so many of our youngest footballers out on the ground. They had another great day, with their skills improving every week. NETBALL RESULTS A mixed day on the netball courts, with equal amounts of wins & losses. A shout out to the B Res team who continued on their winning way, their third win of the season. A Grade: NNWU 25 Koondrook Barham 45 Best players Shania Decker & Madison Curran B Grade: NNWU 56 Koondrook Barham 29 Best player: Briony Pedretti B Res: NNWU 54 Koondrook Barham 36 Best player: Lauren Wilson Under 16: NNWU 22 Koondrook Barham 43 Best player: Wynter Mitchell Under 14: NNWU 13 Koondrook Barham 39 Best player: Summer-Lee Wilson Under 12: NNWU 12 Koondrook Barham 6 Best players: Imogen Lusty, Miley Shadbolt & Mianna Stewart SOCIAL NEWS Thanks to the Swan Hill Club for hosting our awards and teas last weekend. After teas this week, we are holding a Family Games Night, which will be plenty of fun. Get your teams organised and see Narns to enter. Keep track of the upcoming social events on the club’s Facebook page. Good luck to all football and netball teams today.

TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG M AY 8 VS T Y N T Y N D E R Today we welcome Tyntynder to Tooleybuc for our second home game of the year in what should be an exciting day of action. Today’s match day sponsor is BRM Electrical & we thank Bones for his generous & continued support of the club. Last weekend the seniors put in another spirited performance highlighted by a break out game from Ryan Domaille. Best players – Ryan Domaille, John Wardle, Gaz Grant, Francis Kinthari, Tom Carland. Mallee Physio Award – Jack Mazzarella. Jack Spinks led the way for the ressies who put in a huge performance only to unfortunately concede 3 goals in last 5 minutes to go down by 1 point against a strong eagles outfit. The colts battled hard all game against a quality & well drilled side. The U14’s never gave up all game & were able to get some reward for all their effort by hitting the scoreboard in the second half. The U12’s continued their strong start to season putting in another great team effort highlighted by their terrific ball movement. This week’s Manang Hotel Auskick award went to Jack Chislet. All members & supporters are

encouraged to hang around after today’s action for dinner & our players auction which is one of our great social functions for the year. Netball Notes: We faced off against many tall, strong and experienced teams this week, but gave it our all. Our 12 and Under girls are starting to play some quality netball. While Lalbert got the better of them on Saturday, there were some pleasing passages of play. Sophie Kentish played well in a number of positions. A fantastic team effort by the 14’s, adjusting well to positional changes and meeting these with enthusiasm. Award recipients were Jayda Plant for her accurate shooting and assistance bringing the ball down the court, and Olivia Fowler for her leadership and being solid in defence. The defensive pressure by the 16’s was fantastic and consistent throughout the game, with the award going to Emily Hickey. The attacking end all worked well together, making some great space in the ring. B Res went out with lots of determination and put up a great fight. Courtney Morris played a pearla of a game, taking many

intercepts and playing forward all day. She was backed up by Olivia ‘Murph’ Murphy and Keira Edo, who both worked hard on the wing and in goals. A good team effort by all! B Grade put a lot of pressure on the opposition all over the court, providing many opportunities for the goalies. Hayley Caddy fought hard for four quarters in attack, earning her the award this week. A very impressive start to the game in A Res saw us leading after the first quarter. Some changes in the mid court shook things up and the girls finished with a fighting last quarter. Great game from Leonie Kentish on talented (and tall) goalies and good effort from Millie Holland in the attacking end. An impressive performance from A Grade this week against a well drilled Mallee Eagles side. We are really starting to work each other out and improve each week. Carlee Hazlett returned and added some real intensity to our mid court, while Jac Clarke held strong and shot well all game. We can sense the wins coming this weekend.

HAY LIONS M AY 8 VS M OU L A M E I N A Grade Murrabit 65 def Hay 15

Under 17’s Murrabit 35 def Hay 25

With a strong centre court and tall defenders Hay had to fight for every pass. Hannah Stewart ) and Jade Auldist had to work furiously to get the ball and played well under significant pressure. Solid defensive play by Ellie Jamiesonin GD and Olivia Joyce GK also placed pressure on the Murrabit shooters. Bron Hicks, Emily Headon and Daisy Barnes rotated well in the centre court to keep fresh legs but the skill of Murrabit was too strong with the final result Murrabit 65 Hay 15.

The Hay Lions 17s jumped out of the blocks against Murrabit and took a 10 to 3 lead at quarter time with Ruby Cattanach leading and hitting the scoreboard with fellow forward Izzy Eyre while defenders Emma Johnston and Katie Howard blanketed Murrabit’s forwards. Murrabit slowly worked their way back into the game, despite continued efforts from Alice Caldow who played the whole game at centre and Lucy Davies who fed the forwards well from WA. WD’s Emily Caughey and Sienna Lund continued to battle however Murrabit were able to use superior fitness and player rotations to overwhelm the gutsy Lions in the last quarter, in the best game of the year so far for the young Lions.

B Grade Murrabit 73 def Hay 21 This was very much a defenders’ game as Hay battled against the well-drilled Murrabit side. With a few changes to Hay’s mid-court this week, Hay took some time in developing fluency in their plays down the court, however, they were able to pull together to finish off the game with their highest scoring quarter. Jasmine Gregory was determined and effective in defence, taking many fantastic intercepts. She worked well with Dim Comb who was relentless in Hay’s defence, taking many strong rebounds and supporting Hay’s attack in moving the ball down the court. B Reserve Murrabit 61 def Hay 27 B Res continued to improve, with determination despite missing some regular players. Murrabit were very tough opponents with loads of experience and fitness all over the court. It was great for B Res to have talented experience at both ends of court with sisters Trish Jamieson in goals and Jess Weymouth in Goal Keeper. Special thanks to our energetic contributors who helped out our numbers and played two games, Emma Johnston, Lily Tassell), Katie Howard and Chloe Arandt.

Under 14’s Hay 20 def Murrabit 18 Another nail biting game for the young under 14s side. At the 3rd quarter Murrabit had the lead by 4 Points. Hay came in to the 4th determined to win and came back with a 2 point lead. Sophie Tapper was dynamic in defence, limiting her player’s possession, picking up intercepts and claiming almost all available rebounds. Lucy Davies played a near perfect game in WA, moving swiftly to position herself for the next pass and always available to feed the shooters. Sienna Lund had a stand-out game in Goals, moving well around the circle and shooting beautifully. F Troop F-troop played a great six quarters against a more experienced Murrabit team. Coach Katie Howard used this opportunity well by rotating the players through all positions, which gave our little F-troopers an experience all over the court. All girls played with a lot of heart and enthusiasm.

NULLAWIL M AY 8 VS WA N D E L L A Round 3 saw us taking on the Tigers at their home ground.

Netball

The under 14’s came up against a strong Tigers outfit and battled hard all game. The team managed to kick a goal in the last quarter through Tiger Vearing, however it was the Tigers who ran out winners 8.7 – 55 to Nully 1.1 – 7. Better players were S.Kelly, T.Perry, H.Humphreys, B.Kelly, M.Fawcett and T.Vearing.

Lily Humphries made it very hard for the Tigers to score any goals and Lana Fawcett was busy picking up any loose balls whilst Tessa Sheahan enjoyed the Macorna rings.

The under 17’s jumped out of the blocks taking a 4-goal lead into quarter time. The Tigers hit back hard in the second quarter with 2 points separating the teams at half time. The game turned into a real arm wrestle in the second half, with Macorna coming on out winners 8.8 – 56 to Nully 6.4 – 40. Better players were M.Hogan, D.Kelly, P.Kelly, S.Kelly and G.Box. The game was neck and neck all day, with our boys taking a 2-point lead into the final quarter, however a 3 goal to 2 last quarter by the Tigers saw them take out the win by 5 points. Final scores Macorna 8.5 – 53 to Nully 7.6 – 48. Better players were D.Kelly, J.Vearing, M.Poyner, Z.Sullivan, G.Forrester and B.Hogan. The Seniors also came out all guns blazing and although being a little inaccurate, we took a 39-point lead into quarter time. Our goalkicking improved in the second quarter where we kicked a further 8.3 to take a comfortable 78-point lead into the main break. A 10 goal to 4 second half saw the finals scores Nully 24.19 – 163 to Macorna 7.3 – 45. Mitch Farmer kicked another 6 goals this week, while Patty Kelly and Dorf managed 4 each. Better players were M.Quigley, J.Humphreys, A.Casey, M.Farmer, Z.Kelly and K.Doran.

Nullawil 57 def Macorna 1. The skilful under 17’s played at their best and showed they want to play netball in September. Taya Bartram and Bella Gilchrist put on a display of superb goaling for the crowd. Ruby Scott and Verity Rafter are a strong duo in defence whilst Ella Sheahan is always putting those long arms out everywhere. Nullawil 70 def Macorna 17 As if the selectors were going to let Janelle Hogan watch the netball from the sideline, no she was needed on the court and what a beautiful game she played. It was heard she “plays like a professional”. A big win from the B Grade team. Nullawil 74 def Macorna 25 The A Grade was a very physical game. The Nully girls showed the Tigers that skill and discipline is needed to win the game. Jacki Watts backed up in defence with Meg Hogan and pounced on every rebound. Meg Fawcett was brilliant in the centre and whilst younger sister Gemma kept adding goals to the Nully total. Well done girls for keeping your heads up in a tough match Nullawil 34 def Macorna 19 The B Res had a big day with Amy Smith and Marcia Pollington being too strong in the defence end for the Tigers. Young guns Regan Kelly and Holly Fawcett were busy running hard in the centre providing plenty of feed to goalers Lizzy McGrath and Joanne Scott. Nullawil 62 def Macorna 11

QUAMBATOOK M AY 8 VS M U R R A B I T Netball: Under 12s What a game with Under 12s scoring 10 goals against Wandella. The improvement in our side is fantastic. The Ladies Committee award went to Harper Free with a strong game in GA and the Drink Bottle award went to Ivy White who played consistently in both GS/GA. Thanks to Ebony free for scoring. B-Reserve Quambatook 25 defeated Wandella 22 What an incredible win the b reserve girls had! J. Greenhill (Exchange Hotel) showed us all how well she has switched from defence to attack with some brilliant passes from WA into an on fire K. Thomas (Mallee Physio) in the goal ring. These girls are improving week after week and we cannot wait to see them win many more this season! B-Grade J. Bennett (Exchange Hotel) ran hard in centre while K. Burmeister (Mystic Park Hotel) and D. Boyd (Mallee Physio) worked hard together in defence putting Wandella under lots of pressure, getting plenty of the ball. Unfortunately for the girls, Wandella’s defence was on fire making it hard to get the ball into the goal third. The girls have another tough game this week, but I have no doubt they will come out firing chasing that first win! Football: Under 14’s

It was a bit tough with low numbers but from the help of Wandella, all the kids got to get out and all have a kick as well as make some new friends. Big thanks to the coaches and helpers during the game of the 4ths. It was great to see the older boys get around the younger kids, they helped our young ones get a few scores on the board. Great to see the good sportsmanship in younger age groups. Hope to see you all Saturday. Reserves The team worked hard in the 1st quarter to create scoring opportunities but couldn’t capitalize on the good work of Luke, Ryan and Joel. Alex was tackling hard and Tex getting plenty of hitouts but the loss of Luke Boyd with a leg injury left a big hole in the midfield. Ringo was roosting the ball out of defense, Jai battled hard but fitness began to show and Wandella ran out easy winners. Best players: J. Greenhill, R. Atkins, J. Bremner, A. Ferguson, J. Parker. Seniors Great start to the game with Quamby kicking the 1st four goals , but missed opportunities and let Wandella back in and the game evened up. Injuries hit the team hard with 3 players out for the day by half time but they still went goal for goal in the third, Will slotting his fourth and Rhys and Jarrod standing strong in defense. The lack of rotations showed out in the last quarter with Wandella finishing the stronger. Best players: M. Bradbury, T.Cameron, J. Schlitz , G.Knight, R.Wild.

MURRABIT M AY 8 VS Q UA M BATO O K The day started like no other in the past 13 years! U14.5’s defeated Hay! Chase Coulter (Kerang electronics) was colossal although he may find it hard getting his award this week. Sam Copland and Zeb Hein (R&B McNeil), were getting kicks at will and Kye McKerrow (AB Building), was solid once again. A great team effort sharing the goals around also. Other award winners: Cooper Hein (Copland Salt) & Zane McKerrow (Subway).

Once again a case of close but not good enough for our seniors. It wasn’t through lack of effort, more so skill errors that would ultimately cost the side a win. The Backline was strong with Mick Grant, Brody Green, Matt Penny and Tom Copland working hard all day. Once again plenty of ball was won by Marc O’Neil and the welcomed return of Bryden Morison. Award Winners: Kaine O’Connell (Royal Hotel), Sean Gillen (Mystic Park Hotel) & Matt Penny (Elders Barham).

Our 3rds just couldn’t quite stay with Hay as the game progressed. Just over a kick in it at ¾ time the margin didn’t quite do justice to the boys efforts and determination. Open football and some larger bodies enable Hay to kick away in the end. Archer McKnight played his best game for the year and was backed up in the midfield with Ashton Wood, Ben Maher (McKnight & Bray), Blake Wilkinson and Tom Leahy (Coaches). Other awards: Kev Doolan (D&J Hein), Sam Copland (John Morrow) & Noah Shea (Subway).

We had some lovely dinner served up by the Bray’s Bujdoso’s and Hunters at our Aussie night with a laugh or two along.

The Reserves managed a game thanks to a number of fathers, spectators and presidents pulling on the boots to enable Hay to field enough players to constitute a game. A great sight to see was Brent ‘Ticky” McKnight come out of his retirement to play a game with his son Archer. A great accomplishment and memory to cherish. Archer was fresh off a BOG performance in the 3rds and followed suit here and didn’t look out of place. After a difficult to watch first quarter the game settled into a good spectacle with some laughs and decent skills on show. Matt Robinson opted for a game of footy over a honeymoon after last week getting married to Lauren. Congratulations guys! Award Winners: Matt Robinson (Greg Dickson), Jesse Mayne (CluBarham), Ashton Wood (Sh’Marnas Place) & Josh Bray (Car Wash)

B reserve – Erica Cummins (Linngenberg $30), Jess Morrow (Yo-yos)

Netball Big wins for all senior grades with great team play all over the court. Awards: A grade – Kalinda Stanton (Tailored Peach), Steph Reeves (Yo-yos) B grade – Jo Danson (Harperbay bistro), Sarah Perry (Yo-yos)

The under 17’s had a handy 10 goal win with Mila Bray who is playing up an age group dominating all over the court to take home the AB Building $10 while the ever reliable Sarah Copland took home the JMM socks. The 14s were unlucky to lose a close one but will definitely be hungry to play Hay again next round. Awards to Emmity Hartley (Harvey/Laursen $10) and Copland salt $5 to Belle Morton. U12’s played 6 quarters to give everyone a good go with both sides having lots of numbers, best for us was Freya Kennedy (Spitty lollies) and Macy Bray (Canteen).

Ultima 8 Moulamein 3

B Grade

The girls had their first win and it was great to see them all put what we practised at training into play. Awesome job girls. Awards went to Gypsi O’Brien and Ella Atkin.

We had a good game and worked hard for a full four quarters, ending with a 31 all draw. Our defensive end worked together nicely. Awards went to Megan, for leading the way with pressure and rebounds and Trine who fed our goalies with accurate passing into the ring. We have a revolving door of players and our ability to adapt is good. Well done to Emily Edwards for playing her first game and we hope to see her around in coming weeks.

14&Under The girls combined well to win 48 to 8. This week’s award went to Jayda Kelly. 17&Under After a close first half the girls stepped up their defensive pressure all over the court to pull away a win, 48-29. Awards went to Kobe Davison and Isis Davison. B Reserve Ultima 42 Moulamein 21 The girls put out their most consistent performance yet against Moulamein. They worked hard to perfect their direct leads as well as putting pressure on their opposition player. A massive thank you to Kobe Davison for helping us out. Awards went to Kristy,

A Grade Ultima 46 Moulamein 48 It was disappointing not to get the win, with little errors costing us in the end. Our structure going into the attacking end really clicked and it was great to see the hard work start to come together. Lily Grey played a full game in A Grade and did everything she was asked. I’m sure we will see more of Lily in the next few years. Congratulations to Tess for being awarded best on court by the umpires. Awards went to Lou, Tess and Lily.

MACORNA TIGERS M AY 8 VS U LT I M A NETBALL

and Kara fought hard up both ends of the court.

U12- We now have 9 young girls on our team, they are all doing an amazing job and working great as a team and improving every week. They were up against a strong team this week. It was great to see none of the girls give up and kept pushing all the way to the end.

A grade - It was 2nd vs 3rd in the A grade and we were up for the challenge against Nully. We began the first quarter red hot however Nully got 10 goals on us early. A few changes were made and we came in at half time down by 8. We ended up down by 14.

U14 – Watching our U14 netballers this week was very exciting! They were met with an extremely strong opposition and although the outcome wasn’t what we’d hoped for, our girls never gave up and showed us what talent we have to work with. Special mention to Briney Ferris who filled in for us and absolutely killed it, coming away with BOC.

FOOTBALL

U17- We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but Nully came out firing from the start and didn’t let us in at all. Gracie hurt her knee early in the first and it rattled us. We had a lot of changes and took the game as a learning curve for us all. Miley Anset stepped up for her first game of 17’s and didn’t disappoint!

Thirds - Our Thirds had a fantastic win against Nully. They got the jump on us early but we fought back and sealed the game in the last 5 min in great team effort. Fergus Bear was on fire as was Toby with some hard footy. Ryan Dee kicked 2 at full fwd, Hunter & Liam played well in the in a great win

Bres - A tough day on the court for our B Res girls this week, but they shouldn’t be disappointed as there were still a lot of positives that came out of the game. Let’s hit the track firing this week, to come out strong against Ultima this week. Alex Carter and Kylie Rowe for their awesome defensive pressure in all 4 quarters.

Reserves - The challenge was always going to be there and we were a bit slow for a few quarters, however the boys really put it together in the last. Using the ball extremely well and showing the yellow and black spirit we ended up dominating the game with a great team effort.

B Grade - Such a tough week but the girls never dropped their heads all day. Although they tried to adapt their play it was no match for the strong Nully side. Jordyn stepped up into defence and put strong pressure on all day. Sherri

Fourths - The boys sparked this week at home against a strong Nully side. Ball movement from the backline linkages through the forward line was a real highlight. The core spine players were at their best with Lachy finding plenty of the ball in forward, Jack & Cooper down the back clearing the ball out of defence.

Seniors - With a couple of late outs their slick midfield had us on the back foot early. New recruit Nick Leach gave us 110% all day with Jessi getting plenty of run, back six worked hard, moving Josh Stiles back late helped the run with Matt H and Jake who were solid.
