WORDS FROM OUR CLUBS M OU L A M E I N

Moulamein Football Netball Club is still a part of the Golden Rivers Football Netball League and should be long into the future. Interest in the club spiked when we were able to have talented Tessa Lavey visit and run a skills clinic for our juniors. Then the talented Peter Matera (West Coast Eagles), showed up and ran a fantastic football clinic for all age groups. We then held our annual Swan Hill Truck Service Cash Classic MFNC Fishing Comp, with record numbers, fantastic weather, beautiful meals and friendly locals, what more could you ask for. The club was well on its way to staying alive and well in the 2021 season.

With 24 of our senior players cleared to play elsewhere the task we had before us was never going to be a walk in the park. Recruiting started back in December when our new coach Heath was appointed. After that everything started to take shape and locals became interested in our new look club. A few were worried that recruiting was slow, no real preseason to speak of, and lots of unknown talented footballers were fast filling our teams list. Netball was the same, everyone just followed suit, and left to find teams elsewhere. Most of the time, you gain a footballer, a netballer is just around the corner, this wasn’t the case, instead we have had a lot of our local talented netballers return to the court.

First game against Wandella was going to be the tell all of how well our footballers and netballers would

perform during the season. Well perform they did! How great a feeling is it to be in the football change rooms after the game and hear them sing our song with pride, and I believe each week they continue to get louder. Our club functions have been well supported so far, and with some great home games to come, so do the functions. Pink Ladies Day, this Saturday, keep an eye out for our raffle and the rattle tins, all money raised going to breast cancer research. A great bonding day for the women of the club. Our Commodity Auction is always fantastic, usually with a bargain to be had, locals providing goods and services, along with businesses who give generously. Then we have our Annual Ball, always a great night of entertainment with a live band. We all know that all clubs have their dedicated few running the club behind the scenes and while Moulamein is no different we do have a rather large age gap in a couple of our volunteers. We have Pa Jackson aged 90 in the score box every week, and then we have Claire Polkinghorne aged 13, learning to umpire. With such diversity amongst our community and loyal band of followers, how can the club not survive. We know that there will be tough financial times ahead, and there will be people come and go. We hope that the majority enjoy their time at our club, learn new skills, make lifelong friends, and have memories of great achievements on and off the sporting field. Whilst August if still a few months away we believe that we could have footballers and netballers representing the Swans in finals, the buzz around the club is real.

TYNTYNDER M AY 1 5 VS C O H U N A K A N GAS Football: Under 12s Last week was a good effort by our young pups. They tried really hard and stuck at it as they continue to improve each week. Awards: Sportspower- Austin Wilson, McDonalds - Jack Spence, Subway- Jack Coffey, Café @41-Charlie Blake, Pizza Kitchen – Tom Hatcher, Ian Ray – LiamJohn Greenaway, Coach’s Award- Seth Hovenden. Under 14.5 Tyntynder 25 Tooleybuc Manangatang 67 Played a good game however the score didn’t go our way. We’ll continue to give it all we’ve got as we take on a strong Kangas outfit today. Best Players: Reeve Benfield, Lukas Hill, Jack Fielder, Nash Benfield, Bailey Clarke, Zac Kelly. Colts Tyntynder 43 Tooleybuc Manangatang 90 We came out of the gates with strong and continued pressure, moving the ball well. But as the quarters wore on we were simply outplayed with an undermanned side. Ressies Tyntynder 86 Tooleybuc Manangatang 32 The twos are up and about! It was a great team effort with a good blend of old and young players performing well on the day. Another strong win coming from good numbers on the track. Keep it up boys!

Seniors Tyntynder 109 Tooleybuc Manangatang 44 Last week we took on TooleyManang and the boys toiled away all day for the big win - running away with it in the final term, keeping our opponents scoreless. A final score at 15.19.109, Brolga might put in some extra time into kicking practice. Another tough assignment today against the third place Kangas, all the boys will have to give 100% effort to come home with the W. Netball A Grade Tyntynder 53 Tooleybuc Manangatang 37 Smiles all round after last week’s game. The team gelled well last week for a strong win and hope to keep that momentum today to get two in a row. A Res Tyntynder 48 Tooleybuc Manangatang 34 The team clicked together last week and were strong from end to end. Two U18’s stepped up and helped the team with their first win – amazing effort everyone! B Grade Tyntynder 66 Tooleybuc Manangatang 35 Combined really well as a team and played every minute of the game, never taking the pressure off. working well for this outfit as they settle into the season in a comfortable position. Was a standout performance by the whole team – no better feeling than coming home with a win. Under 18s -With no game last week the girls will be extra keen to get on the court today. Under 16s Tyntynder 5 Tooleybuc Manangatang 67 The score didn’t reflect the game these girls played. Outstanding defence in the ring and awesome effort down the court. Girls could proudly keep their heads up after this very tough game. Under 14s Tyntynder 24 Tooleybuc Manangatang 37 The TooleyManang side were tough opponents and our girls played a well fought battle. We didn’t prevail but we came strong in the end and had some great movement and flow down the court. Under 12s Tyntynder 12 Tooleybuc Manangatang 11 Woohoo... first win on the board for these little legends. It was great to see these girls working as a team against Tooleybuc. Kieley Styles was fantastic in defence. Everyone did so well and have improved a great deal. Congrats Chloe on her first game.

COHUNA KANGAS M AY 1 5 VS T Y N T Y N D E R NETBALL Round 4 – Netball Results A GRADE – COHUNA KANGAS 33 – MALLEE EAGLES 72 The Eagles were quick out of the blocks and we found ourselves playing catch up from the get go. We had plenty of the ball and opportunities to close the gap but our execution wasn’t where it needed to be. A RES – COHUNA KANGAS 28 – MALLEE EAGLES 44 We were in it to last quarter but just couldn’t hold. Defensive pressure was great and we caused them to make a lot of errors, Jorja H held strong and with good positing lead to some easy goals. B GRADE – COHUNA KANGAS 43 – MALLEE EAGLES 73 A tough game against a very talented Eagles team. We all gave it our all and didn’t give up. Lucy and Cora stepped up for U18’s which they showed they are very capable of playing seniors. B RES – COHUNA KANGAS 66 – MALLEE EAGLES 45 We thank Sammi Moon for filling in for us today. Another warm day and we dictated the play right from the start. An excellent first half with great goaling and strong defending. U18 – NO GAME

U16– COHUNA KANGAS 55 – MALLEE EAGLES 23

RESERVES – COHUNA KANGAS 31.12 – 138 – MALLEE EAGLES 2.1 - 13

A fantastic game girls. We came out strong after a few being away at camp during the week. The girls again had fantastic defensive pressure and backed each other up beautifully all day. Keep up the good work!

What a difference a week makes inclusion of Scott Beattie with 13 goals and 9 individual goal kickers for the day made a huge difference.

U14– COHUNA KANGAS 21 – MALLEE EAGLES 29 The girls started the game with steady passes but the Mallee Eagles shot really well to have a 5 goal lead first break. With a change of position the young kangas played really well and got plenty of intercepts. U12– COHUNA KANGAS 0 - MALLEE EAGLES 56 Unfortunately another tough game for the girls today. However they played well and started implementing our training drills, were ready for a good training this week ready to smash next week’s game.

COLTS – COHUNA KANGAS 7.3 - 45 – MALLEE EAGLES 19.7 - 121 Another vastly improved performance this week under perfect playing conditions despite our lack of numbers and depth, our effort continues to improve on a weekly basis however the only way we will continue to improve is turn up on the training track and continue to put in on Tuesday and Thursday nights. U14.5 – COHUNA KANGAS 7.17 - 59 – MALLEE EAGLES 3.1 – 19

FOOTBALL

Both teams had a good start with scores pretty even, sadly with in a third quarter injury a star player from Cohuna is taken off. Cohuna ended up winning with some determination despite the injury.

Round 4 – Football Results

U12 –

SENIORS – COHUNA KANGAS 26.12 – 168 – MALLEE EAGLES 10.10 - 70

Another perfect day for footy, the Eagles started strong, a few position changes at quarter time gave us a very competitive game. Great game from Tai and Kane, it was also great to see some of the first year players Mitch and Charlie having a great game as well.

Perfect weather and new jumpers so the boys got off to a flying start, kicking 10.4 -64 to 2.1-13 in first quarter, a strong performance in the next three quarters, the team won by 98 points with 9 goal kickers.

BALRANALD M AY 1 5 VS K E R A N G In good weather last week we played hosts to the Raiders teams and it was a good day for the Roos teams. In the footy we were victorious in the Seniors and Under 14’s and the Netballers won all their games. Seniors: This game was a fast flowing game with the lead changing on many occasions and it was with a bit of luck that our boys were three points up in the end. Our better players on the day were Ben Fuller, Drew Lloyd, Jordan Wilkins, Jack Salau, Michael Graham, Josh Hodgson, Col Andrews, Cam Barrett and Ben Jones. Reserves The Ressies played one of their best games in years and thanks to the boys for helping out with numbers. If we can keep the group together a win will not be too far away. Better players were Marshall Bodinnar, Donny James, Bailey Brougham, Tom Salau, Jacob Lister and Jakeb Curran. The Juniors: The Under 14’s had their first win for the season in a fantastic effort by all the players, now looking forward to next week’s game. Better players on the day were Aidan McIntyre (Umpires award), Levi Ryan (Coaches award), Jett Militto (Most improved), Jack Dowling (Canteen award) and Cruz Jolliffe (Pizza award). The Under 12’s played a great game with great commitment. It was a great team effort again from the team of super stars. Better players were Archie Alderucchio (Umpire award), Noah Bodinnar (Coaches award), Hudson Stevens (Most Improved), Keegan Hillerman (Canteen award), Jed Paton (Pizza award) and Reid Jolliffe (Subway). Netballers: A Grade: (WON) In another great team effort the girls got up in a strong game.

B Grade: (WON) A great game played by all, keep up the great work girls. Georgie O’Halloran (Balranald Motor Inn Cash). B Res: (WON) It was an excellent game with everyone playing well. Sarah Gillbee (In The Garden voucher) Under 18’s: (WON) The girls played a strong consistent 4 quarters, with lots of good ball movement and defensive pressure. Molly Helgeland (Bakery voucher) and Grace Morton (who filled in for Raiders) (Pizza voucher). Under 16’s: (WON) Considering the injuries we had it was a great game by all. Grace Morton (Smithers transport Cash) and Georgia Finch (Subway award). Under 14’s: (WON) A great game by the girls with an awesome comeback in the second half to get us over the line. They showed great composure in the last few minutes. Ellie Finch (Moore’s Bus Lines cash) and Lillian Matarazzo (Subway voucher). Milestones: Good to see Cam Barrett back at the Club and Poll back up in the Seniors. The trio from Darwin, Joe-Joe, Donny and Kshaun had run in the Ressies and Skip Rodgers and Dante Gervasi mad a return as well. Social Scene: Round 6 – Woorinen game – Mock Wedding. Invites are on their way out as this appears to be the wedding of the year. Swan Hill Races Marquee 13 June - $150 per person includes entry, marquee on front row, beer, wine , soft drink and food. See Karlie Duryea for further details. Memberships & Sponsorships: See Lisa Jolliffe to arrange your memberships for this year and Aish Gillbee for your sponsorship needs. Today we travel to Kerang and we wish all our football and netball teams the best. Roo-Write-Up

KOONDROOK BARHAM M AY 1 5 VS SWA N H I L L Well, the Raiders returned to the scene of the crime last weekend i.e. Balranald, (remember the final we played there against Woorinen a couple of years ago, who doesn’t!). It’s a good idea to get that trip out of the way early in the season before the winter months set in!. Bit of a mixed bag with the results, no Colts game due to the Roos not being able to field a team which is a shame but if you haven’t got ‘em you can’t do much about it!. However, a couple of cliffhangers took place in the Ressy’s and the Seniors, first up the Ressy’s hung on for a 5pt. win and considering the patched up team which included a few Super Rules players it was a very good result. As for the Seniors it was another heart breaking loss at Balranald, must be our nemesis ground, 3pts. down at siren time was not what we had in mind!. Once again injuries were to the fore with Col and Harley going down. Once again our bad luck continues at Balranald!. Congrats to Morgan Turvey on playing his 50th game for the Raiders, well done Morgs, you nearly got us over the line!. Unfortunately the A Grade girls netballers went down, not by much though so good chance this weekend to get back on the winners list!. Awards for the Seniors went to Jake Dick O’Flaherty (Raiders “Man of the Day”), good to see Dicko back on the paddock strutting his stuff, Clay Davis (Royal Hotel Barham), Davo continues to play good footy and hopefully has an injury free year, Max Baldissera (Barham Hotel), big Maxy is another having an excellent year on the field so obviously fatherhood is working for him, and Jay Reynolds (Nthn Tree Fellas), real good effort from Jay in his first

game back with the Raiders and he also helped himself to 5 goals, very good work by him, others who stood out were Matt Dean and young Tyler Leonard. The Ressy’s won, it may have been by less than a goal but it is still a win, it looked like a blast from the past when they ran onto the ground!. Injuries etc. have played havoc with this side the last couple of weeks so how good is it when these people put their hand up to play when numbers are in short supply, just goes to show they have got the club at heart, well done to all of you!. Awards went to Luke Fulton (Wes Hare Spraying “Scooby of the Day”), Chubby lead his team by example and reaped the rewards at the end of the game by getting the 4 points. Jackson Flischer (Royal Hotel Barham). Jackson continues to excel in the Two’s with his hard running style of footy. Andy Edwards (Barham Hotel), Andy is another player having a standout year and can always be relied upon to pull down a big mark, and Jasper Wilson-Keir (Raiders Canteen award), young Jasper is another new player to the Raiders, he made the step up to the Ressy’s to help them out and handled it with ease, well done Jasper. We are back at Raiders Central this weekend to do battle with the city slickers in Swan Hill, country V city, could be a mouth watering clash which hopefully will go the way of the Raiders! SWAN HILL M AY 8 VS KO O N D RO O K BA R H A M It was great to have a freshen up with the bye and look forward to taking on the Raiders this week. Congratulations to all the Swan Hill debs and their partners. They all did a great job and the dancing was first class. Thank you to the organising committee for putting on a great night. Two weeks ago we also had one if the best functions of the year in the rotating dinner. It didn’t disappoint! Was a great way to enjoy each others company and meet the new members of the club. Thanks to Kaylie, Flick and other organisers of another great night. As mentioned we took on the Roos two weeks ago and below are the results: Netball The 14 and under team had another good win against the Roos 2 weeks ago. They are starting to play well together as a team. Award winners Aria McMillan (Subway) and Brooke Pearson (Pizza Kitchen). 16 and under also had a good win and are playing some good team netball. Award winners Maggie Meney (218) and Ella Vroljiks (Pearsons award). 18 and under were a bit undermanned and went down against an impressive Balranald outfit. Award winners Tess Meney (SHFNC award) and Milla Scott (Aspire Jewellery). B reserve have a lot of new players to the club but had a good win against the Roos. Better players were Milan McDonald (Thurs night tea) and Sarah Grigg (Bean Hopper). B Grade had a very impressive win by 51 goals and look to have a big season ahead. Award winners Sophie Reed (Meagan Kelly massage) and Vicky Menelaou (Aspire Jewellery). A Reserve continued on their winning

day with a 15 goal victory. The A grade was a very high standard and high scoring game. The Roos prevailed in the end by 8 goals with today a must win game against the Raiders for the A Grade side. Football The U12s played in breathtaking sunshine and played a good game of football 2 weeks ago. Coaches Andy and Browny are very happy with the teamwork and progress of the side. Award winners Hugh Angus (McDonalds), Finn Hufer (Kip McGrath award), Thomas Robertson (Canteen), Jace Lloyd (Thurs night tea), Lola Patterson (Senior Football award). The U14.5 side had to bounce back after the defeat against Nyah and did a good job against the Roos. Award winners Koby McMillan (Thurs Night Tea), Sonny Beasy (Senior Football Award), Rylee Harlan (Canteen), Will Bennett (Pearsons Grain) and Harry Graham (McDonalds). There was no game in the colts but a few of the colts boys suited up for Balranald in the reserves and acquitted themselves very well. The reserves needed to get on the winners list after 2 losses and did so against the Roos. They will be looking to follow up again today against the Raiders Better players were B Blackmore (Beer Club), J Fletcher, A Grinham, H Richards, P Caldwell and M Brock. The senior game was a great spectacle. Balranald were in front for most of the game and led by 4 goals at 3 qtr time. The Swans hit their straps in the last quarter booting 8 goals to one. Swans remain undefeated by have a tough game against the Raiders today. Best players T Thoolen (Beer Club), C Angus, O Lewis, L Phelan, L Dullard, J Charleson. Good luck to everyone today!

MALLEE EAGLES M AY 1 5 VS L A K E B O GA The Eagles travelled to Cohuna on Saturday ready for a hard contest but unfortunately our seniors and reserves were beaten quite convincingly by a very strong team. Our Colts had a great win as did 5 out of 7 netball teams. Our A grade has welcomed Kelly Walker into the club and she has slotted in so well with her goal shooting accuracy and her height in the ring. Saturday night saw our Social Committee produce another great function. A safari themed Mystery Bus tour was enjoyed by 40 people as they stopped in at Kerang, Mystic Park and Lake Boga Hotels before hitting Swan Hill. Special mentions go to Snowy “Meer Cat” Bennett, Alana “Bindi Irwin” Bookham and the lads Zaco, Darcy and Dools for their matching safari outfits. Kyra and Paddy did a great job organising games and led the way in their outfits. Once again Meg did a great organising –this time assisted by Jo. It’s great to see so many people helping out with the social functions. The night started off well with Harry and Paddy winning the meat packs at the Exchange Hotel in Kerang and lucky Issy and Demi won the “free drinks” raffle all night on the bus tour. Wonder how many they downed? Congratulations to Kasey and Tom on the safe arrival of Frederick Thomas Torr. A beautiful brother to Ollie and treasured addition to the Bennett/Torr families. Merchandise is now being organised by Helen Shepherd.

Thanks Helen for taking this on. We have a full stock of puffer jackets and Mallee eagles polo shirts. We are also doing an order of Rugby Jumpers and Dee Wiseman is organising a hoodie. Please see these girls for more information or orders. It is great that we all represent our club and current sponsors with pride so if you haven’t upgraded your shirt in a few years (I am a perfect example of this!!) maybe this is the year to do it. We have so many people at our club that do so much. I will focus on different people each week but today I want to do a massive shout out to Tony Holloway who is overseeing so many people. Please see him if you have a spare hour or so each week as you may be able to take a little job off his hands to lighten his load. This report is an example of such a job. It doesn’t take much to do and it is one less job Tony now has to do. Please see Tony and just say “What’s a job I can do to help out the club?”. If everyone does a little bit more the club runs a little bit better. Next week we are home to Lake Boga. Make sure you check the home game rosters and know what duties you are rostered on to. Remember it is your responsibility to organise any changes if required so get in early on our FB page and let people know if you need to swap. An early tea will follow in the clubrooms.

LAKE BOGA M AY 1 5 VS M A L L E E E AG L E S MAGPIE NATION,

A Res – LB 24 def by Woorinen 58

A lot of up and down results this weekend with some great wins and some bitter loses but the sun still shines and it was a lovely Saturday.

With a 9 goal lead after the first quarter, it was going to be hard work for our girls to make back the difference. Despite our efforts, we were unable to reduce the margin

U12’s- Big unofficial win and a big bag of goals by young Jarra, but who’s counting.

B Grade – LB 25 def by Woorinen 61 At half time it was just 6 the difference after we were able to outscore them 11-8 in the second term. And despite our determination we were outscored in the second half

Best players were Tyler Arnett, Joel, Tate Colville, young Snake, Thomas Kennedy & Kye Fleming. U14.5’s- Found the opposition to be tough all day and results reflected it. Best players were Bully, Cooper Brymer, Kai Everett, Max O’Reilly, Harry Brown, Pat Dear, Bullet & Harry Bryan Colts- It was ground hog day and they handed out another footy lesson. Best Players were Fraser Colville, Beefy, Cody Anderson, Mullet O’Reilly, Charlie Bryan & The Rock Stewart Reserves- The forward line didn’t function or did the midfield ohh and the defence. Better luck next week! Best players were Trippy, Ox, Tubby, Horse, Nath Downing & Clarky Seniors- Great to see the debut of so many up and comers and after a great start, things looked optimistic, but unfortunately too many turnovers caused the game to change drastically during the final three quarters. Best players were Matty T, Chicca, Johnno, Frosty, Dog & Mr Reliable Brady Hogan A Grade – LB 29 def by Woorinen 36 In a positive start to the game, we had a lead of 2 after the first 15 minutes. However at the half time break, Woorinen made their way back into the game and they had a lead of 2. At the final siren, the final difference was 7 in which we can take many positives away in a hard fought game. Fantastic effort girls.

B Res – LB 24 def by Woorinen 59 In a positive start we trailed by just 3 goals after the first 15 minutes. However, Woorinen’s goal shooter scored 18 in the second to cement their lead as we tried out best to contain her. 18 & U – LB 26 def by Woorinen 53 It was just three goals at the halftime break as our girls kept in touch with 30 minutes still to be played. However they were too strong for us in the second half. Let’s keep our chins up girls and put in the hard work to aim high. 16 & U – LB 80 def Woorinen 13 Our girls were too strong as they scored 22 in the first quarter and kept Woorinen goalless and lead by 41 at the half time break. 14 & U – LB 30 def Woorinen 16 Scores were even after the first quarter with five all until our girls added another nine in the second proving too strong to win by 14 in a strong performance. 12 & U – LB 9 def by Woorinen 27 In a tight contest in the first half, our girls had a one goal leading 7-6. Keep working hard girls and enjoy the game. This weekend we meet the Meagles away. Let’s all hope for better results, we are due in the Senior football and good luck to all teams.

NYAH NYAH WEST UNITED M AY 1 5 VS WO O R I N E N We hosted Kerang last week in fantastic conditions for football and netball. Mixed results though in the football & netball who competed against some very good sides. This week we travel to Woorinen for another week of very competitive games across all football and netball grades. Congratulations to club legend Ash Thompson who plays his 250th club game this week and to Ethan Saville who plays his 50th senior game. FOOTBALL RESULTS Seniors: NNWU 10.11.71 defeated by Kerang 18.10.118 Our boys started the game well, keeping up their intensity that they showed the previous week. While our intensity was high, when we made a mistake, the talented & skilled Kerang side were able to capitalise on it and punish us on the scoreboard. To the boys credit though, they never dropped their heads and fought the game right out, displaying some of their best footy so far for the year. If we can keep up that sort of effort for the whole game, there will be more wins to enjoy this year. This week we come up against another very talented side, but if we believe in ourselves and continue with what we have been working on at training, we’ll be right in the contest at the end of the game. Best players: Blake Larkings, Ben Shadbolt, Zac Threadgold, Brent Arho, Cael Price, Adrian Knee. Players Player Award – Ben Shadbolt Reserves: NNWU 5.7.37 defeated by Kerang 10.11.71 The Reserves started off well, leading for the first half of the game. However, the team was overrun by a very good side to end up coming 2nd. We just need to get everyone to training to improve on a few things to get back on the winners list. Doey’s Meats Award – Rhys Burge; Tasco Award – Tim O’Brien; Grand Hotel Award – Luke Shadbolt; Drover Contracting – Cameron Forster; Swan Hill Pool & Spa and Swan Hill Garage Doors Most Determined – Jordan King Colts: NNWU 5.6.36 defeated by Kerang 14.6.90

The Colts came up against a strong side, and with a few Under 14.5’s filling in, the Colts were no match in the end for Kerang. The boys never gave up though and showed that if they hang in there, they will be very competitive this year. Murray’s Incentive 1 – Cooper Charles; Murray’s Incentive 2 – Jack Richardson; Pizza Kitchen – Harry Shadbolt; Town & Country – Flynn Thomson; Nutrien Ag Solutions 1 – Jackson Hopkins; Nutrien Ag Solutions Hat – Marshall King Under 14.5: NNWU 12.11.83 defeated Kerang 6.2.38 V & S Andrews – Korben Bird; Coaches Endeavour – Ethan Curran; Koraleigh Store – Archie Mitchell; Trainers Award – Muddy McInnes; Subway – Oliver Stewart Under 12: NNWU vs Kerang Coaches Award – Ben Rogers; Koraleigh Store – Tai Lusty; Growtek – Janaya Corr; Classic Fish Shop – Oliver Partington; Subway – Brydie Andrews NETBALL RESULTS A tougher day on the netball courts, with only the B Grade & B Reserves teams bringing home the chocolates. A Grade: NNWU 32 Kerang 51 Best players Denise Snyder & Aleesha Flanagan A Res: NNWU 27 Kerang 33 Best player: Lucy Millard B Grade: NNWU 55 Kerang 21 Best player: Melanie Henson B Res: NNWU 40 Kerang 17 Best player: Charneah Threadgold & Zoe Smith Under 16: NNWU 20 Kerang 36 Best player: Elly Richardson Under 14: NNWU 15 Kerang 49 Best player: Denai Thomson Under 12: NNWU 11 Kerang 27 Best players: Ella Threadgold & Paige Russell

HAY LIONS M AY 1 5 VS U LT I M A A Grade Moulamein 69 def Hay 39 Hay had a closely contested game against Moulamein the minor premiers from the 2019 season. Hay had a full squad of players for the match and were able try some new combinations bringing fresh legs into the match. With a more experienced team and a capacity to capitalise on turnovers Moulamein forged ahead in the first and third quarters but Hay came back in the last to actually match Moulamein at 15 goals for the quarter. However, the lead had been too great and Moulamein won 69-39. B Grade Moulamein 54 def Hay 23 A physical and well-contested tussle with Hay taking the opportunity to work with a few new combinations across the court. Jasmine Gregory (Hay Bowling and Golf Club Best On Court Award) was again consistent in defence. Lily Tassell (Tantrum Hair and Beauty Players’ Player Award) was accurate in Hay’s goaling ring and passed well around the circle. Annabel McLachlan (Coach’s Award) was an asset to the team, playing strongly in both Hay’s defensive and attacking ends. B Reserve Hay 48 def Moulamein 41 What an edge of your seat game this was. At the final siren Hay finished out in front by 7 to take their first win of the season. Some fantastic work in the goal end with Sammi Gerkens (Hannah McGufficke Hair Players Player) and Shell Wilson working great around the circle feeding Trisha Jamieson and Sarah Bunyan the ball who landed some beautiful goals. Under 17’s Moulamein 33 def Hay 24

The Hay Lions 17s took the early lead against Moulamein who fought back during the first quarter to leave Hay with a one goal lead. The combination of Ruby Cattanach and Izzy Eyre up forward was working well and Angel Radcliffe was getting some important intercepts at WA. The second quarter was another arm wrestle with Katie Howard (The Spot award) doing a great job at Centre, Holly Gash winning at GK, and Janee Davies at WD getting plenty of linkages. Up by one point at half time Hay came under pressure in the third quarter despite Emma Johnston (Hay Newsagency award) taking numerous intercepts. The last quarter saw the Lions start down by 8 points but plenty of guts from around the court particularly Alice Caldow (Hay Calisthenics award but couldn’t bridge the gap. Under 14’s Moulamein 18 def Hay 16 This match was another exciting, nail biting game. Hay began strongly with quick movement and fine shooting by Sienna Lund. Hay held the lead until the 4th quarter. A couple of small mistakes in the last 5 minutes of the game, created valuable turnovers to the Moulamein side, who finished with a 2 goal lead. F Troop Hay Red vs Hay Blue – Hay Red won this one with some great defence by the Reds with Jessica Tapper (Active Farmers award) and Emily Taylor (Ricks parks and Gardens award). Hay vs Moulamein What a game this was to watch! Hay did such a fantastic job that Moulamein struggled to convert a goal until last quarter and Hay come out winners 15 – 1. Wonderful defence down the end with Charlie Giddens (Lions canteen voucher) grasping onto those rebounds and Maggie Shields (Ricks Parks and Gardens award) getting some great intercepts. P

QUAMBATOOK M AY 1 5 VS M OU L A M E I N Netball: U12s A tough game today against Murrabit for the Under 12s but no one gave up with so much determination up and Down the court. The Ladies Committee Award went to Lexie Milley and the drink bottle award to Alley Gillingham for their persistence. Well done everyone. B Reserve After a win against Wandella the girls came out firing determined to make it two in a row. Unfortunately between a strong opposition and multiple injuries the girls didn’t quite get there. With a slight shuffle around this week, the girls will be back in the winners circle! Awards: T.Farrugia, B.Denton, R. Wellington B Grade The girls faced yet another tough opposition last week, and even though they didn’t come away with the win, they should definitely not be disappointed with their efforts! The girls played their own game, and put plenty of pressure on Murrabit throughout the game. These girls are working so well as a team and are so close to that first win! Awards: D. Boyd, E. Boyd, R. Koutras Football U14’s The Under 14s had a fun scratch match against Murrabit all the kids had a good run. They ran all day and never stopped thanks heaps to murrabit for lending us some players Awards: Harper, Noah, Madden and Riley.

Reserves A badly undermanned seconds side were no match for a very strong Murrabit outfit. The visitors raced away in the 1st quarter despite some good work from Aiden McSweeney and Brady Gillingham. Ringo and Kyle managed to slow the scoring rate with some strong play in defence and Jai Geenhill and Tim Luscombe worked hard all game. To their credit the boys fought it out to the final siren in very warm conditions . Best players: Aiden McSweeney, Tim Luscombe, Rhett Lowen, Jai Greenhill. Seniors Back on the winners list with a comfortable win over Murrabit last week. Chris Kendall hit the scoreboard early with 2 majors and Will Collicoat was in dangerous form . A 4 goal to 1 second quarter set up the game for Quamby with local Joel Bremner slotting a major in his first senior game. A loss of focus early in the third quarter gave the visitors a sniff but the old heads of Ash Davis and Luke Parker steadied the ship and Mick Bradbury’s ruck work continued to give us first use of the ball, Quamby running out winners by 38 points . Goals: Collicoat 4, Kendall 2, Blackwell 2, Bremner 1, Stanley 1, Pascoe 1, Williams 1 . Best players: J. Blackwell, M. Bradbury, W.Callicoat, A.Davis, R. Wild, T. Cameron. 2021 Quambatook FNC Ball The Ball followed on from Saturday’s game and was a great success. Code 5 played a mix of tunes, ample room for a dancefloor, a mammoth amount of food for dinner and a bonfire to keep everyone warm, it really was the place to be! Thanks to everyone who assisted - in particular Eboni/Rhys and Knight’s for the use of their shearing shed.

MURRABIT M AY 1 5 VS N U L L AW I L Round 4: The day started slightly later with a friendly in the U14.5’s, some younger players taking full advantage, convincing their parents to allow them to play! Great work to all and great to see a few come across from the f troop netball to have a kick also. We them moved straight into the Reserves with another convincing win, Father-Son combinations continued this week coaxing Rab Nethercote out of retirement for a game with his son Riley. Biff turned in on in his first game in the reserves kicking 6 goals! Great effort Riley. Darcy Gillen improves each week and was controlling the half back line, setting up many forward entries. Nugget continued his stellar year in the pivot. Award Winners: Darcy Gillen (Greg Dickson), Leigh Wilkinson (CluBarham), Riley Nethercote (Sh’Marnas Place) & Rhys Neville (Car Wash) They day did not end on a positive note with the seniors going down by their biggest margin of the year. Once again, it was poor skill execution that let the players down and made it hard to gain any momentum once the ball was won. Great to have Blake Wilkinson play his first of many senior games for the club. He made a seamless transition into the team and provided pressure acts and hit the scoreboard finishing with 2 majors. Award Winners: Kaine O’Connell (Royal Hotel), Tom Copland (Mystic Park Hotel) & Blake Wilkinson (Elders Barham). Netball With just two senior teams and our under 12’s heading to Quamby it was a quieter day at the netball. The B grade

kicked off the day with Grace Gillingham racking up the goals early and the defence end making life difficult for Quamby to have much influence on the score board in the opening quarter. The score line didn’t truly reflect the play on court as the game was played at a high intensity and the Quambatook defence was tough and ensured our girls worked hard and smart to get the ball in and score. Kayla Casey took home the Little shoe shop $25 voucher for her excellent work at GD. The B res rounded out the day with a big win in a friendly game with everyone having a good run in various positions. All combinations seemed to work well so the coach might have a dilemma trying to work out which one is best for the tough Nullawil game this week. Teish Nethercote is flourishing in senior netball and had a day out in all 3 attacking positions she played to take home the Little shoe shop $25 voucher while the super fit Jo Yard has made a brilliant return to netball after a couple of years off and did a great job holding her direct opponent to just 3 goals for the day to win the Harperbay bistro award. Tonight we have our Formal Ball, once again thanks to the Social Committee for organising the event and I hope to see you all there! If you haven’t got a ticket, make sure you jump on Facebook and click on the link to organise your tickets prior to arriving. Just to ease the burden on the night.

NULLAWIL M AY 1 5 VS M U R R A B I T Round 4 saw us taking on the Bombers for our second home game of the season. The under 14’s kicked off the day and both teams played some really good football. The Nully team fought hard to be only 7-points down at ¾ time, however the Bombers kicked 2 last quarter goals to take out a 19-point win. Final scores Wandella 6.5-41 to Nully 3.4 – 22. Better players were B.Kelly, S.Kelly, T.Perry, R.Hogan and L.Poyner. The Under 17’s came out firing, piling on 7 goals to the Bombers 1 in the first quarter. The trend continued through the rest of the game, with the final margin being a 93-point win. Paddy Kelly was the leading goal kicker snagging 9-goals and was supported by Dude and George who kicked 3-goals each. Final scores Nully 17.18-120 to Wandella 4.3-27. Better players were G.Forrester, G.Box, J.Box, D.Kelly and T.Mitchell. The Reserves returned to the winners list with a 153-point demolition on the Bombers. Matt Hayward and Aiden McGrath slotted 6-goals each, while Freeza chipped in with 5 of his own. Final Scores Nully 25.18 – 168 to the Bombers 2.3-15. Best players were M.Pyner, A.Hogan, R.Free, J.Vearing, A.Renney and A.McGrath. The Seniors continued their winning way, playing some excellent team footy along throughout the game. The first quarter was an arm wrestle with both sides playing contested football. The game opened up a little in the second quarter, and we went into halftime with a 55-point lead, having kept the Bombers goalless. The boys played some good footy in the second half, with the final scores being Nully 21.13-139 to Wandella 6.10-46. Better players were A.Oberdorfer, M.Quigley, G.Ford, J.Humphreys, B.Barker and K.Doran.

Netball The little girls were keen for a win and were unstoppable. Montanna Kelly was everywhere whilst Jade Box was making it very hard for her opponent to get the ball past her. Well done girls on another great win. Nullawil 43 def Wandella 21 The Nully colts were keen to play the second place Bombers so right from the start they were putting immense pressure on them to let them know they are a team to be reckoned with come September. Nullawil 61 def Wandella 22. Next up was the B Reserve who had a very comfortable win. Amy Smith was at her usual best again earning the BOC. Young Lily Humphries had a run as well and was beaming with determination. Good on you Lil! Nullawil 48 def Wandella 27 The B Grade was a great game to watch as both teams’ defences were very strong, so the goalies really had to get their goals in on their first attempt. Nully had a great last quarter and managed to sneak away to a 9-goal victory. Nullawil 36 def Wandella 27. The A Grade flew off to a great start with the help of Zoe Ferrier who was cutting off the Bombers run numerous times with her great high-flying grabs. Gemma Fawcett was giving the ball plenty of air straight through the ring not even touching the sides whilst Meg Hogan was damaging down the other end of the court as her drive and positive talk was very encouraging towards her team mates. Nulllawil 43 def Wandella 21.

MACORNA TIGERS M AY 1 5 VS WA N D E L L A NETBALL A grade - Another tough day at the office. We feel we are improving in all areas we just need to hit the scoreboard. Bennie is in some fine form and took Exchange voucher home. Sammi will be in for some Waffles. Other stand outs were Cat and our ever-impressive captain Della. B grade -The girls came out fighting and showed some amazing passages of play. At half time Denai stepped into goals and with the support of her team nailed it. Our defenders worked very hard and made sure Ultima didn’t get an easy goal. Congratulations to Leeza who played her 200th game for Macorna today. Awards: Denai Buckow- Exchange & Katrina Toma- Cruisin Coffee Bres - A great game played by the Bres grils this week against Ultima who came out strong in the 1st qtr, which forced the girls to chase their tail all day, but never gave up. Kylie Rowe (Rulcifys award) Kassidy Pearson (Dee family award) won the awards this week for some brilliant defensive work all day. U17 – With a couple of girls out we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We had a great first qtr then we seemed to drop our heads a bit and letting Ultima run away with the win. Jodie had some amazing drives and worked well with Ellie around the ring. Brodey was on fire again getting some great intercepts and rebounds. We are still a working progress girl’s so keep your heads up and work hard at training and we’ll get there. Awards: Brodey- Bennetts Sport & Ellie - MMWFP U14 – The U14 were met with another tough opponent this week and unfortunately the end result wasn’t in our favour. Although another loss the girls are showing lots of improvement and are having fun which is all we ask. Awards to Miley and Mieke for their determination and clever play. U12 - This week against Ultima the girls had another tough

game but again we are so proud of all of them even know we didn’t score not one of the girls stopped giving it their all. Awards, Mackenzie Wilson- Tiff Bartram award. Grace Carter - Waffles FOOTBALL U14 – In a character-building game against the top side the boys put in a great performance. MMWFP – Sam Whinfield, MRW – Cooper Carmichael, Wilson Transport -Wil Meharry, Wilson Transport #2 – Haydn Ray, Tonkin award – Blake Nicholson U17 – The boys had a big win against Ultima although we could’ve converted a bit better. Hunter played a great game kicking 3, Darcy & Rawley played well and Caleb Grech was everywhere kicking a few goals too. Other good players were Austin and Jakeb. Barber in Vogue – Hunter Anset, Rawley Nicholson, Caleb Grech Reserves – Great day for footy. Boys came out flying and continued the effort all day having a great win. Nice to see some new faces, keep up the tiger spirit boys. Aitkens kicked 7, webby Zac, Simon, Kieran & Ant all played great games but all players stood up for the jumper. Exchange – Zac Cummins, Exchange – Kiall Aitkens Seniors – Headed north west to Ultima and a must win for us and our boys didn’t let us down bringing home the win. Big Nick giving us first use of the ball all day with Batesy and Jessi using their skills to give our forwards the edge over their opponents. Stiz booting 7 majors and Acho & Simo 3 each. Back six working it out together and were strong all day. Lets keep that winning feeling running into this week.
