Welcome to Round 10 of the SEFNL Berwick Motor Group Premiership Season. We are now over the halfway mark of the season and this now means that our under 19 football competition will divide into 2 pools, Under 19 A, ladder positions 1-5 and Under 19 B, ladder positions 6-10. This gives clubs the chance to play in competitive matches for the rest of the season and that everyone gets to play finals football. Best of luck to all of the under 19’s sides for the rest of 2017. We would certainly like to take this opportunity to thank our partners for their support of SEFNL. Please make sure if you are ever in need to purchase a car, buy your first home, warm up your home or any of the services our partners provide please make sure you say you’re affiliated with a SEFNL club and they will look after you. Please head to the partners tab on our websites for further details.
Remember in round 11 it is our White Ribbon Round. Did you know that the City of Casey has the highest rate of reported family violence in Victoria? This is 20% higher than the next area. It’s in our community. Congratulations to Doveton for their ongoing work with the White Ribbon Foundation in raising awareness and educating people on the resources that are available to them. Please support this cause to help change the behaviours within our community. Just a reminder that football registrations close on June 30. With this in mind please contact us if you are interested in playing football in SEFNL. Further themed rounds coming up: Round 11: 1st July – White Ribbon Round Round 15: 29th July – Multicultural Round That’s all from the SEFNL desk, best of luck to all teams for this week!

Vic Country flex its muscles in opening Round of U18 Champs The next generation of Victorian country football stars have shone brightly, following the opening round of the NAB AFL U18 and NAB AFL Women’s U18 Championships. Part of the NAB AFL Rising Stars Program, the annual NAB AFL U18 and NAB AFLW U18 Championships sees the best male and female talent compete against the best players from across Australia. In the male competition, Vic Country won its first match at the NAB AFL U18 Championships since 2015 with a comefrom-behind victory over the Allies in Blacktown, NSW over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. Vic Country trailed by 12 points at threequarter time after conceding four straight goals to end the third term, but piled on four unanswered majors of its own in the final stanza to prevail 10.8 (68) to 8.8 (56). Dandenong on-baller Luke Davies-Uniacke was superb throughout the contest, recording game-highs of 34 disposals and 10 marks, as well as five inside-50s and four clearances. Bendigo midfielder Paddy Dow (21 disposals, six clearances and one goal) and GWV Rebels ruckman Lloyd Meek (13 disposals, 16 hitouts, six clearances and one goal) had an impact at the stoppages, while Geelong
pair Edward McHenry (23 disposals, eight tackles and one goal) and Country co-captain James Worpel (14 disposals and a game-high 11 tackles) continually put the Allies under pressure. The best regional female stars completed the perfect start for Vic Country with a 27 point win over Vic Metro in Round 1 of the NAB AFL Women’s U18 Championships at Simonds Stadium on Saturday. After a slow start, Vic Country’s work in defence helped produce three dominant quarters to keep Vic Metro scoreless for two and a half terms. Murray Bushrangers star Rebecca Webster found plenty of run and dash across the field along with Dandenong Stingrays product Bridie Kennedy who was influential in defence. Bendigo Pioneers tall Eden Zanker had a real impact up forward, both as a marking target and playing in the ruck, while Country captain Darcy Guttridge lead from the front to claim the 8.6 (54) to 4.3 (27) victory. Vic Country will line up for its second match of the NAB AFL U18 Championships against Vic Metro at Punt Road Oval on June 24 following its Round 2 bye, while Vic Country’s female squad will travel to the Gold Coast to face Queensland on July 10. Don’t Blink Twice…Or Else You Might Just Miss It… Occasionally...or just every so often what we call a miracle occurs. And guess what? Saw one last week…
seriously damn good looks while straddling that goal line and invading the tall slender goal post’s personal space.
Was having a bit of a wander around training the other night and out the corner of the eye something strange occurred. Not satisfied with the glimpse a full blown stop and head turn was required. There’s a lot of mythical creatures that society claims to have seen over the stretch of time. Unicorns…Yeti…Loch Ness Monster…An inviting Mother-In-Law. But never, no not once in ancient or modern history had there ever been a sighting quit like this…
Allegedly it’s been going on all year. That’s what the jungle drums say. Ask any goal umpire though and they reckon they’ve been genuinely training since the turn of time. Flag were first waved to signify goals in games back in 1887. Who in the world of common sense is going to believe they actually moved, yet alone ran, all the way back then?
On the SUA track, smack bang in the middle of Kananook Oval was a goal umpire. But not just any goal umpire. It was a goal umpire engaged in training. But there’s more…he wasn’t just stretching his index finger…or performing bicep curls under the weight of a hotdog or two. He was actually running. Exerting physical energy. Sprinting down the guts of the ground quicker than some of those so called freakfitness field umpires. But it doesn’t stop there either. He had mates… goal umpiring mates…a truck load of them. Enough to absolutely shatter any kind of sales record of a large hotdog company. And every single one of them sprinting the line (think that’s what it’s called), darting in and around agility poles to show off their discreet food platter snatching techniques and squats and lunges to ensure core strength to keep the lowest point of gravity for those ever so frequent (and hilarious) slips in the muddy goal squares. That all doesn’t even include the extensive skill drill regime to guarantee some
Still puzzled about the whole situation? Think this is just one of those folklore porkies that grows in dramatics around the warmth of a campfire while downing a soothing liquid and toasting marshmallows? Well it still might be… Mythical creatures aren’t real…Miracles don’t actually happen…Or do they? Note to all hotdog companies: If keen to boost sales to increase the bottom line for corporate management get down to the goal square of Kananook Oval on a Wednesday Night. NARRE WARREN 19.17.131 DEF DOVETON 13.8.86
PAKENHAM 4.6.30 LOST TO CRANBOURNE 11.11.77
Narre welcomed Doveton in what many expected to be a physical encounter from the get go. It was no place for the faint hearted with 5 yellow cards handed out during the match, on an otherwise perfect day for local football. Narre could have opened the margin up early but inaccurate kicking again was costly, the Magpies kicking 4.7 to 2.0 to lead by 19 points at the first change. Doveton got themselves back into the contest through the middle stages of the match, outscoring the home-side 9.7 to 5.5 and took a seven-point lead into the final quarter. This is when the contest went up a few notches, the quarter started with both teams having 2-players sent off the field. Doveton spearhead Taylor Joyce kicked his third for the match and gave his side a 13-point lead to keep the momentum firmly planted with the visitors. Narre seemed to kick into turbo-charge to steamroll their way back into the contest with some fantastic forward play. Aaron Wilson dribbled home a beauty, Dylan Quirk loaded up an inspirational bomb, while the Scanlan boys put on a show which saw a 33-point turnaround with Narre Warren leading by 20 points. Seven unanswered goals from Narre put away any chance of a heroic comeback from Doveton, and could be the tonic for Narre Warren to finish off strongly in the second half of the season.
Perfect conditions greeted both teams at Toomuc Reserve and it was a tight first quarter. VFL listed Nathan Gardnier got the visitors off to the perfect start. Pakenham came out with plenty of intent to the contest and made it difficult for their fancied rivals to break free. Rus Lehmann kicked Pakenham’s first and had the scores level halfway through the first. Gardnier got his second late in the quarter as the Eagles led by seven points at quarter-time. Cranbourne struck early in the second quarter through Luke Bee-Hugo who made a return to the seniors after a lengthy suspension which saw him miss most of the last 6-weeks. Stephen Morey hit back for the Lions as the margin was back to within a kick before the reigning premiers kicked three unanswered goals to provide them with a 24-point break heading into the main break. The second-half opened up with an exchange of goals from both sides. Lehmann and Bee-Hugo kicked their second goals for the match respectively, the Eagles where finding it hard to shake the eighth placed Lions on their own home ground. The last quarter saw Pakenham runout of steam, Marc Holt came a focus inside forward-50 for the Eagles. Holt combined with Gardnier to kick the last three goals of the match. Gardnier and Holt both contributing three goals in the Eagles workman like performance winning by 47 points.
OFFICER 4.2.26 LOST TO BEACONSFIELD 24.23.167 Officer came into the contest with high expectations of putting in a quality four-quarter performance and cause an upset against a team finals bound. The Kangaroos are yet to claim a major scalp this season and had plenty to prove against Beaconsfield who had questions of their own that required answering. It was Beaconsfield who was out to make a statement early, booting nine-goals to a solidary behind. Officer had no answers and had some key injuries to try and cover including Dylan Chapman, the Roos had their backs to the wall. Another five-goals added to the turmoil for Doug Koop’s boys. The Kangaroos did manage to kick one major for the first half, but by then the result was done and dusted. Beaconsfield was enjoying an 85-point lead at the main change. Lachie Modica was having a day out, the pacey midfielder was causing major headaches for the opposition’s coaching staff as they had no way to control him. With the game well and truly in their grasp it wasn’t whether the Eagles would win, it was a matter of how much. The second-half was much like the first the Eagles outscoring the Roos by 10-goals to 3 in their comprehensive 141-point win at Starling Road. Troy Aust had his best return for his new side booting five, with tricky Troy McDermott finding space to boot 5 and take his season tally to 20- goals from eight games. Lachie Modica will remember this game for a long-time not only was he regarded as best on ground, he also booted a career-high six goals in the emphatic romp which has put Beacy back in top-3 contention.
TOORADIN-DALMORE 9.6.60 LOST TO BERWICK 13.14.92 The most picturesque venue in the SEFNL really turned it on for a fantastic day for local football. Tooradin where riding a two-game winning streak after a confidence building win away from home before the break. Expectations were high, but it was the premiership favourite Berwick who sapped Tooradin of their confidence early. The Wickers amassed a five-goal to two points first quarter and led by 31 points at the first change. It set the tone for the rest of the match, with Tooradin unable to really apply any scoreboard pressure. Tensions where high with plenty of feeling on and off the football as both teams tried to gain the upper hand in the physicality stakes. The second quarter saw the Seagulls play a much better brand of football. Michael Wallace was Tooradin’s tall option deep in the forward-line, Wallace struck early kicking his first goal of the season. Tooradin managed to outscore Berwick in the secondterm booting four goals to two and reduced the margin to 26 points at halftime. With tempers starting to flare, it was Berwick who came out the better after halftime, Bryce Rutherford dropped back inside 50 to become an option, booting two goals. When Tim Gunn kicked truly the margin was out to 50 points. Tooradin’s new recruit Luke Edmondson kicked a nice long-range shot on goal before three-quarter time which added some respectability to the scoreboard but the Gulls where still trailing by 47 points with one quarter to go. Andrew Dean finally got some support up forward, Dean booted two himself as the Gulls started to dominate the crucial one-on-one contests and turned the game in their favour but the damage was already. Tooradin kicked four goals to one in the last quarter as they fell short by 32 points.

BERWICK (1ST 8-0) V HAMPTON PARK (9TH 0-8) Last Time: Round 3 – Hampton Park 8.1.49 lost to Berwick 31.22.208 This game could be as one-sided as they come. You would expect a gap between first and last on the ladder as reflected in their earlier encounter this season when Berwick won by over 26 goals. Not much has changed unfortunately since then. Hampton Park are coming off the bye, but have been cruelled again by some middle of the season transfers including Yarran Jaffer-Williams, who would be leading their best and fairest count to this stage of the season. Berwick where a touch disappointed with their performance last week against Tooradin and will be looking to come out with fire and brimstone this week, they don’t want to miss out on their chance to boost their percentage and solidify their position on top of the SEFNL ladder. Hampton Park kicked their biggest score of the season against the league’s best performing defence, that alone should instil some confidence into the young Redbacks as their prepare themselves for the biggest test of their short senior careers. Berwick are the premiership favourites for a reason and the result looks beyond doubt, but everyone is hoping not to see another major blowout. Hampton Park will fight the good fight but won’t have the personal to stop a rampant Wickers at home. Berwick by 127 points.
BEACONSFIELD (3RD 5-3) V PAKENHAM (8TH 1-7) Last Time: Round 3 – Pakenham 5.8.38 lost to Beaconsfield 16.14.110 Beaconsfield are up and about after their best four quarter performance of the season last week against Officer. Beaconsfield outside run and strong defensive press made it too hard for Officer to get into the contest. It could be similar again this week as they welcome Pakenham to Holm Park for the first time this season. Their earlier encounter was close early before Beaconsfield kicked nine unanswered goals in the second quarter to set up their victory before halftime. Pakenham have shown improvement since that contest and will be prepared for what Beaconsfield have to throw their way. How far Pakenham have improved over the past 6 weeks of football will be tested against a team full of confidence and plenty of outside run. Pakenham have the experienced midfield brigade but outside speed would be their Achilles Heel. Beaconsfield welcomed back the Johnston twins last week but may not have the luxury of recalling them for this contest at home. The Eagles will have plenty of depth to cover the unavailable players, which may have not been the case this time last season. Beau Dowler hasn’t hit the scoreboard often this season, his 14 goals has him behind Troy McDermott who has kicked 20 goals, including five in their Round 3 encounter against the Lions. Beaconsfield are pushing towards another finals series, while Pakenham is working hard to restore some respect to this once proud football club, the margin will reflect exactly how both teams are travelling. Beaconsfield by 39 points.
OFFICER (7TH 3-5) V DOVETON (5TH 4-4) Last Time: Round 1 – Doveton 16.14.100 def Officer 10.12.72 Officer welcome Doveton to Starling Road, in a repeat of Round One when Doveton where too good winning by 28 points. A lot of football has been played since then, and like a rollercoaster both teams have experienced their ups and downs. Officer were looking like a smoky finals contender before last week’s mishap which saw the Roos get trounced at home against Beaconsfield. Doveton once again has been hampered by a growing injury list to their star players, which has really hamstrung their performances of late. Doveton at full strength will have the result in the bag but it’s difficult to write the Kangaroos off just yet. A fiery week on the track from their coach Doug Koop should have the young Roos quickly refocused on the job at hand. It was the first time this season, that Officer allowed the opposition to manhandle them and it’s a trend that Coach Koop won’t want to see again this season. Doveton where in a winning position last week away at Narre, a 15 minute fadeout saw them concede the last seven goals of the match and go down in disappointing fashion. With both teams stoking the fire within it could be a tough tight contest. Officer were down to 20 men due to injuries and Doveton have been managing their own casualty ward for the past month. This game could be decided at the selection table on Thursday Night. Doveton should still have the class edge and get the important win away from home by 11 points.
TOORADIN-DALMORE (6TH 3-5) V CRANBOURNE (2ND 7-1) Last Time: Round 3 – Cranbourne 13.11.89 def Tooradin 11.8.74 Only 15 points separated both teams at Casey Fields earlier in the season. Cranbourne continue to improve each and every week and if they can dictate terms early in this contest the margin won’t be as close. Tooradin looked to be one of the real improvers in Season 2017, back-to-back wins for the first time in a long time had the Seagulls full of confidence. Some of that confidence was knocked out of their sails last week after a disappointing loss at home against the ladder leaders. Tooradin has seen an influx of season talent arrive during the last month and it could take a couple of weeks before we see them gel and be back at their best. Cranbourne’s second halves is when they seem to play their best footy and really put the foot on the throats of their opposition. Just when you think the opposition has a chance of causing an upset, the Eagles spring to life and can hit the scoreboard with relative ease. Aisakie O’Hailpin has quickly rose to prominence as one of the premier ruckman in the game at this level. O’Hailpin will set the tone with his physical presence around the contest, the Eagles will use Micky Boland and Troy Tharle to nullify the Gulls big man. Tooradin stuck with Cranbourne for a long time in Round 3, and if they have improved since then, they could find themselves in this up to their ears in front of a passionate home crowd. Cranbourne to have too much firepower and win by 23 points.

The 19s started of the day with an emphatic win over a young but still highly determined Tooradin Team. All credits to the Gulls boys who stuck to their guns and did not drop their heads.
Always great to get all 3 wins

This week we venture to Beaconsfield for our round 10 clash to try and get our second win of the season. Against Cranbourne the previous week, we were competitive for much of the match, before Cranbourne kicked away late in the game. We are seeing improvement each week in the young senior team, however we need to become more consistent in taking our opportunities to put scoreboard pressure on the opposition.
also extended to their immediate family. This also includes caravans, camper trailers. We also offer log book servicing and are VACC accredited
After last Saturday nights game, the club hosted our annual Comedy Night, with Dave O’Neil, Lehmo and Brad Oakes in attendance. The crowd were in raptures, with plenty of funny gags thrown around the room. Lehmo certainly got stuck into President Andrew Muley for his winter dress sense. Shorts and boat shoes. Welcome to all players, members and supporters to our Round 10 clash with Doveton, our second home game in a row. Welcome also to Doveton Club for what we hope will be a day of good hard football. Last week our games against Beaconsfield are best consigned to history. In one of the poorest showings in several years our Seniors hard-earned reputation as an improving side was demolished by a very well drilled side that hunted in packs and beat us in all positions on their way to a 141 point thrashing.
game against Beaconsfield on July 29. Plans are underway to hold an informal function back at our Social Rooms that night - more details will be provided as they become available. Tickets in this year’s Reverse Draw are now available from Players and committee members. Make sure you get your tickets early as this is one of the more popular functions on the Club’s social calendar.
The boys know that last weeks display was not indicative of the sides ability and will be out this week to make amends. Congratulations to Ben O’Loughlin on playing his 100th game today. There is a huge day coming up for the Club soon as Ben Tivendale nears his 300th game. All going well Ben will reach this milestone in our Round 15 away

Last weekend we headed down to take on Narre Warren which is always an exciting clash between the two clubs. We would like to thank Narre Warren for their hospitality on the day. Whilst it was not a successful one for us all round, many positives were brought away from the day. We regroup as a club, work hard on the track during the week and we prepare for this week’s clash against Officer.
in the near future. There is a real spirit that still survives to this day when it comes to watching and supporting our Footy and Netball teams. Keep up the good work. This weekend we take on Officer away - good luck to all our footballers and netballers which I’m sure will be an exciting battle! Go Doves! #doveylove
Under 19s were comprehensively outplayed for the first time this season the boys just didn’t come to play and can learn a lot moving forward. Declan O’Donnell & Ricky Johnson battled hard all day. The reserves came up against an undefeated Narre Warren side, and put up a fight all day, unfortunately our depleted side couldn’t hold up all day but with the help of Jake, Declan and Ricky from the under 19s we take a lot of positives from the day and can’t wait for next clash. Seniors went in with the youngest side to ever represent the Doves with 16 players under the age of 21 in the side and boy did they have a dip. After a slow start the 2nd & 3rd quarters were a pointer to how bright the future looks at our club we played an electrifying brand of footy. Inexperience and tired legs showed up late but the group can be very optimistic moving forward. Lachie Batten and Sam Raru were brilliant all day and Taylor Joyce grabbed everything that came his way in his best game in the green & black. A message from Steve Henwood – Life Member from the Doveton Football Netball Club: To me the game was the most encouraging performance I have seen for some time. While getting well beaten in the end, the effort by our very young side was outstanding. We have a solid foundation that could win a premiership

A big thank’s to all our sponsor’s that supported our day on Saturday, we had Kevin Sheedy came down to the club for our sponsor’s day and everyone had a very enjoyable time. I’d like to thank Tim Burgess and Colin Butler for helping us pull together the day and Tooradin sport’s club for the great meal and venue, there were a few anxious moment’s when we could not contact Kevin, in fact Tim and i were just about to explode when poor Kevin walked in the back door and i said to him, before even meeting him “ GEEZ KEVIN WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN” before even saying hello to him, he replied “ WHAT DID YOU THINK I’D LET YOU DOWN, I’VE NEVER LET ANYONE IN MY LIFE DOWN,NOT STARTING NOW”, with great laughter to follow. He explained that he had been in Tasmania and left his phone down there. Between myself and Tim he should have about 100 missed call’s to work though, good luck with that Kev. Also thank’s to Sam, Kevin’s boy for getting him there on time. SOMEWHAT. As for the game, letting them get the first 6 goal’s is alway’s going to make the job hard, we are getting closer but not close enough for the president that is staring to run out of patience, it’s hard to get sponsor’s on board each week and coming up with loses time after time. ‘BOYS WE HAVE TO LIFT’ The challenge now is Cranbourne so it just never get’s any easier, we hope to have nearly our best team on the park so boys LIFT. Our netball girl’s are playing so well at the moment and junior’s are all winning to, great effort from all. Keep up the good work. Good luck to all on the weekend. Great to get Vander’s back and also a new face in Luke Edmondson after being rejected by Beacy. Thank’s Beacy, keep sending them over. Cheers. We were informed this week that past player Jim Chapman who played for TDFC in the 50’s passed this week, player’s will wear black arm band’s out of respect. Our condolences are with Laurie and family. Regard’s Greg

A big day at Fox Road as Narre scored the clean sweep against Doveton in three footy games. Our Under 19 B footballers also saluted in a nail-biter against Cranbourne B. Seniors – Narre’s Ones gained the early ascendancy with a 5-goal to 2-goal opening quarter - our new recruit Aaron Wilson outstanding with three goals. But Doveton hit back, striking a better balance of attack and defence - and using the ball more efficiently throughout the second and third terms. At the final break there was only a kick in it … game on!! Suddenly the Narre of old clicked into gear. We started winning the clearances with head-over-the-footy endeavour, which allowed our forwards to take control. Narre finished off with a ten goal final quarter for a seven goal win, with better forward ball movement than we’ve seen all season. Nick Scanlon (4 goals), Stewie Scanlon (3) and Aaron Wilson (3) were in our best. A star-ofthe-future was born with a best-on-ground performance by young Tommy Miller in just his fourth senior game; while Col McNamara, Dylan Quirk and Josh Tonna were Narre’s other four-quarter contributors. Reserves - Narre’s Twos dominated an undermanned Doveton, holding them to only 5 scoring shots for the match. Home-team goals were shared around as Narre built a lead over the four quarters to run out 9 goal winners. Sammy McLean was solid in defence, Andy Ray, Andy Vella and Borno opened the game up with consistent run and carry; and the Collins brothers – Chris and Damian – were also instrumental.
Under 19 A – 19A’s played Doveton in beautiful conditions for footy. We got off to a good start and played 4 good quarters of footy with even contribution across the board to win by 96 points. Maxy Sheppard 4 and Jake Boccari 3 were the major goal kickers whilst Paddy Andrew played his best game for the season. Ryan Patterson, Dylan Webber, Brayden Sharp and Zac Gullivan also impressed. Under 19 B Round 9 saw Cranbourne B head to Kalora Park to face our Under 19’s B side. With an early start to the game, conditions were tough early with plenty of frost and dew covering the ground making it very tough for both sides to hit the scoreboard. The lead changed hands several times throughout the first half but it was cranny who went into the major change 3 points ahead. Narre came out after half time the better side and while they couldn’t quite convert their dominance into a major lead, our boys took a 7 point lead into the final break. After a gutsy hard fought match, our young boys were able to hold on and take a welldeserved victory. Tyson Graham found form as Narre’s best and ruckman Adam Machnikowski continued his stellar season with another dominant performance around the ground. They were joined by Tommy Mason and Brandon Hogan as Narre’s best Social notes Sat 8 July - Black & White Ball – Tickets on sale in June

NARRE WARREN 69 DEF DOVETON 25 Narre Warren came to play against Doveton at Kalora Park. The menacing Magpies stuck early totally eclipsed Doveton, shooting the lights out. Narre outscored Doveton 15 goals to two and was never headed. Doveton couldn’t get into the match at all, the second quarter saw the last years premiers shoot at unbelievable rate putting up a further 17 goals to enjoy a 21 goal lead at the main change. Narre’s first half set ominous signs for the rest of the match, and they came out all gun blazing in the third quarter. Narre were simply unstoppable, as they scored a massive 21 goals while restricting Doveton’s attack to only 4 goals. Narre’s dominance saw them shoot 53 goals in three quarters, some SEFNL sides are yet to score 50 goals in a match this season. Narre continued to outwork Doveton in the final quarter scoring 16 goals to 10, for the second time this season Narre Warren scored 60 goals or more, ensuring the huge win at home. Chloe Phillips had a day out shooting 50 goals in a remarkable performance around the ring for the Magpies. Narre recorded a massive win and one of their best four quarter performances for the season beating Doveton a team pushing for their own top 5 position by 44 goals.
ROC 44 V BEACONSFIELD 71 Beaconsfield was a little slow out of the blocks after nearly three weeks without a match. Only two goals separated both teams at the end of the first quarter. Gemma Stacey was working overtime at the goal attack position to keep the Kangaroos close. Beacy continued to grind out the second quarter, the Eagles where tested but pushes their lead to seven by the half. The Eagles put in a dominant display outscoring the Kangaroos 22 to 10. The Kangaroos had no answers to the onslaught Bianca Sanzaro and Tanya Mijovic in sublime form in attack. Beaconsfield’s midcourt was once again dominating with the likes of Ash Gill and Rylee Nelson controlling possession. Beaconsfield recorded the highest goal tally from any side this season. Tooradin and Narre Warren have both shot 60+ goals in a match this season, Beaconsfield were the first team to reach 70 goals for the season.
PAKENHAM 35 V CRANBOURNE 52 Pakenham welcomed the return of their midcourt star with Meaghan Winter playing her first game of the season. It had immediate results with a determined Lions pack out to make it a tough day for the Eagles. Winter lined up on Cranbourne Captain Steph Ryan which ensured a great midcourt battle. Unfortunately for spectators the two guns only played the first quarter and didn’t return. The Eagles surged in the second quarter with Tegan Stahl and Alanah Hardy dominating the forward position, with Tara Cecil and Halley Galpin unflappable in defence. Cranbourne extending their lead to nine goals at the main change. Pakenham didn’t give up and came out with plenty of vigour in the third but they were unable to get themselves back into the contest on the scoreboard. The Eagles running away with an impressive 17 goal win and dither securing their position in the Top 5.
TOORADIN 47 V BERWICK 44 An undermanned Tooradin welcome Berwick in what was perfect conditions for Netball. The ladder leading Seagulls were without at least five of the top-line talent who were unavailable due to VNL commitments. Berwick caught Tooradin off guard with an impressive first quarter. The Wickers scored 17 goals to lead 17-10 at the first break. Tooradin Coach Kelly Andrews swung the changes with dramatic affect. The Seagulls grew into the contest and manages to reduce the margin to only four goals at the main break. Berwick continues to work hard but the pressure was unrelenting from the home side. Scores where level at 35 a piece with a quarter to go. With it all up to grabs it was a tight finish to an enthralling contest, Tooradin’s guns rising for the occasion and outscored Berwick 12 - 9 to record a tough three-goal win to remain undefeated. This doesn’t take away what a great performance the improving Wickers put in for four quarters, quantifying how far they have improved since the start of the season. Berwick is staking it claims as a genuine finals contender, The Wickers will be hoping they won’t be punished for the slow to the season.

BEACONSFIELD V PAKENHAM Last Time: Round 4 – Pakenham 26 lost to Beaconsfield 57 Beaconsfield have been one of the powerhouses of Season 2017 and come into the contest after a great win against ROC, which saw the Eagles score above 70 goals in their win at Starling Road. Beacy are the perennial finalists but seem to have found their premiership form which sees them sitting second on the ladder. Pakenham are at the start of a rebuild and have improved as the season has worn on. In such a competitive environment any slight drop off can expose you to a tough day on the court. The Eagles have match winners all over the court, and will look to dictate terms early on to squash any chance of an upset. Beaconsfield won by 31 goals in their first encounter in Round Four and you would expect a similar result this time at home. Beacy to be too strong over four quarters and win by 22 goals.
BERWICK V HAMPTON PARK Last Time: Round 3 – Hampton Park 46 def Berwick 34 This is shaping up as the contest of the round. Hampton Park should be refreshed after the break and bye week to ensure they are fully charged to come into their crucial contest. Berwick are one of the form teams in the competition and have really turned their fortunes around. The Wickers nearly caused the upset of the season, pushing the ladder leaders Tooradin to the brink last week. Coach Janine Kilmartin, is a passionate coach who has provided her young chargers with a sense of belief. Now they have the belief can they turn that into more on-court success? This is a must win game for both teams as they are both outside the Top 5 and will want to continue their push towards the finals. Berwick are the fourth ranked offensive team in the competition and will be looking to put scoreboard pressure early to have the Redbacks on the back foot. Hampton Park can play quality netball and a win here could see them push themselves back into finals contention. This game will go down to the wire, with Berwick’s goalers to shoot them to victory late in the game. Berwick by 3 goals.
ROC V DOVETON Round 1 – Doveton 44 lost to ROC 48 After their season started sprightly ROC has fallen away sharply and find themselves second last on the ladder. ROC’s drop in form has seen them loose their past five matches, if they don’t win this week it has been over two months since their last win back in Round Three. ROC are better than their results says but have lost a lot of confidence in the way they play. ROC surprised Doveton earlier in the season with a strong win away, and they will be hoping to replicate something similar at Starling Road. Doveton can be an enigma, promising so much but yet to claim a major scalp. Unfortunately for the Doves their best leaves them just short, they have won only one match of their past four, going down to the teams in the Top Three respectively. The Doves have shown they have untapped potential who can beat teams around them on the ladder. This will be an easier task as they take on the Kangaroos who appear to be languishing towards the bottom of the ladder. The Doves can’t underestimate their opposition as show back in Round One. ROC would have to address their on-court issues quickly to return to their early season form. Doveton to be too strong over four quarters and record their second win against the Kangaroos this season, Doveton by 7 goals.
TOORADIN V CRANBOURNE Round 3 – Cranbourne 32 lost to Tooradin 47 In the only game this round which sees two teams in the top 5 face-off Tooradin welcome Cranbourne to Westernport Oval. Tooradin nearly tasted their first defeat of the season at the hands of Berwick. With up to five players unavailable due to VNL duties, it took the Seagulls best to record their eighth straight win of the season. Cranbourne are currently sitting fourth on the ladder but their spot in the finals is yet to be confirmed. The Eagles success has been built on a strong defensive unit, which sees Cranbourne ranked fourth for least number of goals conceded and leaves them with a healthy percentage at the halfway point of the season. The Eagles come up against the best offensive team in the competition. Out of the eight matches this season Tooradin have defeated a team by 10 or more goals five times. Tooradin will look to start the game strong, and put pressure on the Eagles to force turnover and ensure midcourt dominance. Tooradin look to have the class edge against Cranbourne, the game should be close early but the Seagulls firepower will be hard to diminish over four quarters. Tooradin by 11 goals.

A Grade-It was great to get back on court & put together a great team effort to defeat ROC. It took us a while to get rhythm & momentum, but once we did, we started creating defensive turnovers across the court & capitalising on the scoreboard. We enjoyed a lead at qtr time, & from there we started flexing our muscles across the court & building on our lead as the game went on. Awards: Emily, Bianca & Jas. B Grade-A tough, exciting game for the girls taking on ROC. A fine first qtr from the girls resulted in a slight break, however ROC didn’t let up. A crucial intercept from Courtney part way through the last qtr spurred the girls on to break away to a victory.
at halftime. Both teams displayed fantastic efforts, however Beacy dominated the 3rd qtr with defensive pressure & passages of play. The midcourt was impressive with accurate throwing & decision making. This linked throughout the game with the goalers all holding off tall opposition & working quickly, making it difficult for the ROC defenders. Our defenders maintained defensive pressure all game & snapped up any chance to secure possession. An outstanding team effort. Awards: Eliza, Kyana & Aleisha.
Awards: Dani, Courtney & Mel. C grade had a slow start to the game, 2 weeks off played it’s part, but we managed to pick things up in the 2nd qtr & kick on in the 3rd, but a determined ROC team came back at us in the final qtr to close the margin. Awards: Caity, Maddie, Jordan & Suzie. D Grade-We played ROC in great conditions for netball. The girls started strong with some strong passages of play & got away with a great lead. ROC came out in the 2nd qtr causing us to turn the ball over & reduced our lead. We displayed a few flat patches throughout the game, but managed to fight our way through it to come away with a win. Awards: Maddie K, Claire & Tay. 17 Red-A solid victory by the girls considering we had reduced numbers. Great to see our attack end is starting to gel nicely, even under pressure they remained calm. Our defensive pressure was outstanding & demonstrated the teams willingness to work hard for the entire 4 qtrs. Awards: Em, Annie & Danni. 17 White-After a close 1st qtr the Beacy girls came out strong in the 2nd to gain a great lead. Defence was great to watch & feeding into the goalers made it hard for ROC to turnover possession. Awards: Kasey, Hannah, Abhi. 15 Red-After 2 weeks off the girls were ready to get back to netball. A great start matching ROC for the 1st half, the girls had great defensive pressure & drive to the ball. A 3rd qtr blow out & change in the ROC attack, we struggled to keep up in the 3rd, but the girls kept fighting & picked up in the last, unfortunately going down with a loss. Awards: Fran, Jemima & Alix R. 15 White-Back from 2 weeks off, we started a little slow which allowed ROC to get the jump on us which was reflected in the scoreline. The end result being a draw, we fought our way back into it which was great to see. Awards: Sophie F, Tahlia & Darcy. 13 Red-Today was not our day. The 1st half of the game we failed to find our speed & intensity. In the 2nd half the girls found their spirit & with persistence & determination didn’t let the game go without a fight. Well done girls! Awards: Bella & Imogen. 13 White-We were looking forward to ROC, a chance to put in place what the team has developed during the 1st half of the season in a tight contest. The 1st qtr saw a few goals difference & it was an even scoreline

What a glorious winter’s day last Saturday at our home game against Cranbourne to mark the half way of the season. We would like to extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the two senior players from Cranbourne that were injured in their games. Each week we continue to witness the improvements in our team’s games that come from all the hard work and commitment to their training sessions and team work. As we head into the depth of winter keep up your intensity and your commitment to training, the team and the club. We are all proud of each and everyone’s efforts! This year we have welcomed new players and on Saturday we extended a warm welcome to Lauren who played her first A Grade game for the club.

berwick At the halfway mark of the Home & Away Season, The Wickers are definitely on the March. An impressive game from the 13 Red’s in an undermanned team, saw them cement themselves in the Top 2. Sharp shooting from goalers Kaylah Loulanting & Brooke Abu-Jaber, made for some exciting plays together on court. Our 13 White’s are also on the up with their 14 goal win. Coach Mel G has given the team some great leadership taking them into outright 3rd on the league ladder. Midcourt player Jasmine Nation showed her skillset is improving each time she takes court & Deedee Loulanting is following in her older sisters goaling prowess. The 15 Red girls had a good win this week, although being struck hard with illness, the team came out and displayed the versatility within their ranks. Rylee Broadley moving back into goals and assisting Chantelle Rudolph, who between them sank 33 goals on the day. The 15 Whites continued to work their magic and strong teamwork, with a huge 46 goal win. Midcourters, Jasmine Corless & Sophie Castricum, fed the ball extremely well and provided their goalers with the opportunity to score a huge 51 goals.
The B Grade team were in the contest for 3 quarters of the game, but just managed to let it slip away in the final term. Defence pressure down the whole court, and great movement by Charlotte Tiplady & Rachael Fox saw the girls have plenty of opportunities, but in the end Tooradin were just too strong. A Grade went in as the underdogs this week against top of the ladder Tooradin, with a prediction of a 17 goal margin come the end of 4 quarters. The Wicker Chicks proved to the league leaders that this young side are a force to be reckoned with. The girls held a 7 goal lead at the first break and continued their strong momentum until the final break, only going down by 3 at the final whistle. The combinations are being cemented and the positive vibe is spreading amongst the team and its showing out on court and on the scoreboard. This week see’s the Wickers at home against Hampton Park.
It is wonderful to see these 4 junior teams all in the top 4 at the halfway mark of the season. Another tight game for 17 Red’s saw them go down by 2 goals. Defenders Hayley Allman and Lauren Castricum held tight down back and worked tirelessly to create turnovers to work down to their goalers. The girls will keep their heads high and work hard to improve their game as a whole, we are yet to see the best from this team. 17 Whites coach Sarah Nash lead her girls to a 15 goal win this week, putting them just outside the Top 5 on the ladder. Some beautiful goaling from Chloe Bernard and Julia Batchelor, finally saw all the pieces fall into place and show the true potential of this group of girls come out. At this half way mark, the team are hitting their stride and are on the up and up. D / C / B Grades all had a loss on the day but not without some intense battles on court through all games. The D grade girls came out strong with some great ball movement, with goaler Brooke Holden converting on the score board. A lapse in the 2nd quarter saw their opposition take off and the team just couldn’t fight their way back in. C Grade had a tight contest against a strong opposition this week. With some help from U17s defenders, Shenaya Wijusundera & Lauren Castricum, the girls worked with a different line up and kept their intensity and fight til the final whistle. Struggling to put 4 quarters together, the girls will be keen to bounce back against Hampton Park in Round 10.

Under 13’s had their best game of the season today. With players as young as 10 in our team, it’s hard on their confidence. Today they came together and played absolutely fantastic. They backed each other up, goalers shot well, defense and midcourt were great and most importantly, they had fun! We kept the first half pretty even but lost it in the second just due to experience and Pakenham just playing really well. Credit to Pakenham as they haven’t won a game all season either. Best on went to Ethan for his great defensive pressure. Another tough day at the office for our 15s today with 2 players out with injury and illness. It was going to be a tough one without our whole team on court but the girls put in their best with our 2 fill ins, Sophie and Sharna. Our defenders had it tough trying to shut down Pakenham’s fast paced flow but didn’t give up. Get well Ruby and keep healing Indy. Thanks Sophie and Sharna Under 17 Whites came up against a Pakenham side that wanted nothing more than the ball. A well polished side with incredible defensive pressure left us scrambling to put points on the board. Our defenders worked hard and left the court red faced and gasping for air, but our attacking end could not convert many turn overs. Best on Annalise Miall
Sadly lost their own game! Well down to the shooters for not dropping their heads for the first time this season! Best on Lara BREEN d grade played the best game for the season, we worked really well all over the court best on Jules and Chrissy Great day for C grade. Came out strong and lead all 4 qtrs. if we can keep the pressure up defensively and match it to the attack great things will happen in the back half of this season best on ground went to Skye Marie Harvey B Grade bounced back well with a win. Pakenham definitely wasn’t a team to be under estimated and they took advantage of our careless errors in the first half. Had a big talk and a line up change in the 3rd qtr which made the difference. With some short passing we found a much easier way through their zoning and finished with a strong lead. Best on court was Khloe Weaver A grade, after a hard lose last week we trained well and put our training into our game this week and it showed on court, Unfortunately loosing our last quarter cause we tried to change it up a bit and Pakenham goalers shooting at 100% but all in all great game for us best on Brooke shooting at 86%
Under 17’s red came into the game wanting a win by the whole team! Although as a team everything that was learnt at training went out the window and Pakenham brought their a game came out wanting to win more! Redbacks played individually not as a team!

A Grade: Well Narre were very fit, strong and hungry for the win. Need to get refocused and not expect any easy passages, especially against such a quality side. Hopefully in the next couple of matches our flow will kick back into gear. B Grade: Rocky start for a week off. Welcomed Shonalene back and our newbie Chelsea! Not the result we wanted, but I’m pleased with the girls breaking the lead down for a better margin. 20 points maybe high to others , but that’s a gain for us to learn from for the 2nd round. Very proud coach! D Grade: Were out classed by last year’s premiership side whom didn’t seem to slow down for the whole game. But we move on, regroup as a team and work hard this week at training. Remember ladies we get out what we put in not only at trainings, but on game day too. U17’S Red: Well Well Well. Top of the table clash..7 girls vs 7 girls. Today we found out, That you only get out, What you put in...Today we found out that talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words... Might be the kick in the butt, that some of us needed.. Really proud of our efforts second half... When we play we have to play four quarters. Special mention to Teileah Pullen, who showed my girls what effort, and a positive attitude can achieve. Really Looking forward to seeing how we respond next week...J.B. Out!!!!!!!!! U15 Red: Stepped into the game nervous and it showed. Our goalers absolutely smashed it the first half showing Narre we meant business and the scores were tight. Unfortunately bad passing, slow movement and not adapting to the game cost us in the second half. Girls, I think we take a lot away from this week’s game that we cannot take it easy. Let’s work hard on Tuesday night and really show ROC we mean business! Well done to Teileah Pullen who played her first game as well up in U17’S Red and absolutely smashed it! Proud of you! 13 Red, irrespective of the final score you all gave it your absolute best, I asked for teamwork, attitude and commitment and you all delivered making me one proud coach! Under 13 White - what an amazing display of netball from my girls this week. Everything I wanted from them on the court they did we started off slowly only to come back firing in the second quarter leading at half time the girls took the court against a determined Narre Warren team. The girls fought the whole game goal for goal unfortunately losing by only 3 goals. I am absolutely blown away by how much of an improvement the whole team has made their team work was amazing I am one Super proud coach. Whilst it was a disappointing day for us overall last weekend, we come away with many positives which we can work on as a club for the remainder of the season. Remember ladies, winning isn’t easy. It comes from hard work not only on training nights but the extra effort you dedicate outside of those hours. At the end of the day, you only get out what you put in. Let’s use last weekend to put that fire back in our belly’s & focus on taking on ROC this coming weekend! We are just not a club – WE ARE FAMILY! Let’s back each other and stick together! GO DOVES!

What a round of Netball our gulls put on for our sponsors and past players day last week. For the second week in a row we were able to celebrate all four seniors having a win with the A grade team putting on a thriller against a young and determined Berwick to win by 3 goals after being down by 10 at quarter time. Match of the day though belongs to our 17’s red who managed to hold on in another thriller to win by 2 goals! Such a great performance from the girls who proved they have what it takes and held on under pressure in the dying minutes of the game. Well done! Our juniors across the board put in another round of fantastic efforts despite not coming home with the points. A huge thank you to all who came along to our sponsors and past players day. We had a fantastic afternoon tea while enjoying a great day of netball. This week we welcome Cranbourne to the nest to kick off the second half of the season. After mixed results last meeting we are looking to improve and take home more points this week. This week also sees us celebrate 100 senior games for goaling star Dayle Willis. Dayle has been a staple of our goaling line up since graduating from our juniors and we look forward to watching her do what she does best today. Congratulations Dwayle!

Last week we travelled to Pakenham for round 9. It was a beautiful sunny day with perfect conditions for netball. Our 13’s had one win and one loss. The 13 red’s played an amazing game, the coaches went out on a limb and put girls in positions they don’t usually play to get some height in the goal ring. The result was a 32 goal win! Great effort by the 13 White team, great team spirit and playing hard until the final whistle. Both our 15 teams had good wins. The Reds having a couple of players returning from injury putting together 4 amazing quarters. The white team had a 17 goal win proving all the hard work at training is paying off. One win and one loss for our 17’s. The white team having a few girls out with injuries made the coaches job quite hard trying to fill positions from fill ins. They play a great game but fell short of the win.
Congratulations to Brooke on playing her 50th senior game. B Grade . A game that could have gone either way but Pakenham proved to be a little stronger and they took out the win by 7 goals. A Grade as always displayed some fantastic netball skills. Grunt and determination getting the girls over the line for a 17 goal win. Thank you to the ongoing support from our sponsors. Yo-Get-It. Y-Not Lawn & Garden care Trios sports club Thermofilm Sports Co. Another away game for us this week as we look forward to taking on Tooradin. GO EAGLES!!
The Red’s returned to form this week with wonderful defensive pressure and every player giving 100%. Massive 35 goal win from our D grade team. 4 quarters with different combinations in each, great attacking and defending. Smiles all around from players and coach. Congratulations to Steph on playing her 100th senior game. C Grade started out strong and just kept on getting better and better as the game progressed. Total control and in sync with each other. Great game to watch resulting in 28 goal win.

Narre Warren hosted Doveton last Saturday at Kalora Park on a sunny winter’s day. Our ten netball teams came away with strong victories across all grades, adding to the four football wins to make it a clean sweep for the day. A NW 65 def Dov 18 An outstanding performance from our depleted A grade side. With several players unavailable due to VNL commitments and injuries, everyone stood up to play their roles extremely well. A determined effort limited Doveton’s scoring opportunities. The mid court was solid, relishing the chance to have more court time and Chloe and Kealeigh finished off in the circle. B NW 63 def Dov 43 BOC: Carly & Jayde A high scoring game for B grade, who came out of the blocks firing. An 18 goal first quarter set up a controlled win with plenty of positives . Jayde and Carly were stand outs in the mid court, driving the ball through. C NW 47 def Dov 16 BOC: Jacqui & Kate A dominating start with C Grade in control at quarter time, leading 16 – 1. Fresh legs rotated through the mid court and goal ring as the team went on to continue their unbeaten run. D NW 51 def Dov 23 BOC: Tayla B, Jess, Paige & Alex
both 13s record wins 13W NW 17 def Dov 14 BOC: Jayde, Savannah & Shannon The closest match of the day saw our 13 White girls hang on in the final quarter to keep a late Doveton fightback at bay. Some of our littlest netballers weaved in and around their much taller opponents to take a narrow three goal win. This week Narre Warren will be enjoying a sleep in whilst on the bye! At the half way mark of the season our teams are all in the mix, with all ten teams sitting in the top five. We look forward to seeing improvement as we take on everyone again in the second half of the fixture. COMING EVENTS: VIP Day & White Ribbon Round – Sat 1 July – From 1pm – NWFNC Social Rooms Black & White Ball – Sat 8 July - Tickets on sale in June - $60 includes two course meal + donut wall – Dress to impress Thank you to our Match Day sponsors: Jay Q Plastering, Inspire Sports Group, Tru Plumbing, McGill Family, Fountain Gate Bingo, South East Tattoo Removal, P3 Sports & Recovery, Mongelli Constructions, Aly Heinze, Subway Narre Warren & Fountain Gate Panels.
The goalers rewarded great team defence converting at a high rate. Alex stepped up from the 17s and did a great job in defence. 17R NW 50 def Dov 30 BOC: Caity & Tayla Ready for a tough game, the 17 Red girls were focussed from the start and played smart, disciplined and measured netball. Caity was great in defence against some very strong goalers, while at the other end of the court Tayla worked hard to set up the play, combining well with Tamika. 17W NW 41 def Dov 19 BOC: BOC: Taylah & Cailie Another high scoring performance for the 17 White girls. Great team defence narrowed Doveton’s opportunities and stretched the margin each quarter. 15R NW 35 def Dov 24 BOC: Whole team! A gutsy comeback in the second half saw the 15 Red girls turn a two goal deficit into an 11 goal win. The whole team was awarded Best on Court for their combined effort! 15W NW 35 def Dov 15 21 BOC: Caitlyn, Alicia & Mikayla 15 White turned their form around and secured the four points. Great attacking play and ball movement was well finished off with accurate goaling. 13R NW 28 def Dov 12 BOC: Annie, Jasmine & Courtney Our 13 Red girls shook off the opposition, building on their lead with each break. A great start to the morning to have
