Welcome to Round 11 of the SEFNL Berwick Motor Group Premiership Season. Today we are supporting the Doveton Football Club in their annual White Ribbon Day. White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male led Campaign to end men’s violence against women. Vision: All women live in safety free from all forms of men’s violence. Mission: Making women’s safety a man’s issue too. The campaign works through primary prevention initiatives involving awareness raising and education, and programs with youth, schools and work places and across the broader community. It’s not just about physical violence but the other ways in which men treat women. Are the roles women are doing at your club traditional “female roles”? How many clubs have female presidents? Have a look around your sports club and see how many women are actively involved. If the answer is not many, then perhaps you need to look at ways of including women. Is the culture at your club one in which women would feel safe and comfortable?

On a lighter note on Sunday 25th June our U/13 & U/15 Open Netball Representative teams headed into the State Netball Hockey Centre for the Association Championships State Finals. This was an opportunity for the girls to play against the best in the state in their age groups on the big stage. It was a tough and competitive day and our girls showed what talent we have in the Junior ranks of SEFNL netball. The U/13’s finished 3rd on the ladder and the U/15’s finished 5th on the ladder in their respective Pools. Again, this day was not possible without our coaches Janine Kilmartin, Leanne Walford and Katrina Foster. Well done getting the girls to the finals and thank you. We also thank the parents and players for their support and good luck for the rest of the SEFNL season with your clubs. Further themed rounds coming up: Round 11: 1st July – White Ribbon Round Round 15: 29th July – Multicultural Round That’s all from the SEFNL desk, best of luck to all teams for this week!

JETS NO MATCH FOR POISONOUS STINGRAYS

The Dandenong Southern Stingrays endured swirling winds whilst hosting five new debutants to come home with a comfortable 76-point win over the Western Jets on Sunday, 16.16 (112) to 5.6 (36).

That was the theme for most of the day – the Rays burst out of the blocks early, but they couldn’t convert early shots on goal until they finally adjusted to the conditions and kicked away.

The Stingrays were menacing in the second half by not allowing the Jets to get a sniff on the scoreboard, by only allowing one goal whilst adding 13 majors of their own.

After the half time siren the Jets were made to look second-rate as the Stingrays swarmed the footy and benefitted from cleaner disposal and better decisionmaking.

Dandenong benefitted from a wide spread of goal-kickers, with Tom Freeman 3 goals, Dylan Morris, Toby Bedford, Corey Ellison and Fin Bayne all managing a pair of majors each, with five other Stingrays also slotting goals.

Debutant Alex Young won’t forget the first term for a while, booting his first TAC Cup goal quickly followed by Fin Bayne’s first- both could have added another in the first term but missed with near misses.

Freeman and Bedford were the pick of the forwards, with both applying significant pressure across the half-forwards to force the Western defence into making errors. Riley Darcy also had a great day out, playing as the primary lead-up key forward and clearly relishing the opportunity. Through the middle, Bailey Morrish and Mitch Cotter had a day out, with brilliant support from the likes of first gamer Jack McHale, Mitch Riordan and the hard working Ali Zijai. Down back, however, was where the Stingrays really shone. Jesse Davies gave his best performance of the year across the back flanks, while stand in Captain Lachlan Young move into defence continued to be one of the masterstrokes of the year. And after a best-on-ground performance last week, Bailey Morrish would have undoubtedly put his hand up for back-to-back honours with another gritty performance from the centre. Stand-in coach Nick Cox (who once again this week took the reigns to further develop his coaching skills) was pleased with the final result. “In tricky conditions, like today with the wind blowing making it hard to score, it was always going to be a challenge. “The Jets came at us, particularly in the second quarter. And so it was good to see how they responded – our second half, I thought, was fantastic. “We outscored them and we outworked them.” “I was very pleased to see our all 17 year olds have an impact- especially in Bedford and Bayne who we challenged to use their pace.”

To their credit, the Jets refused to give in. A majority of the second quarter was played on their terms, while a couple of the Stingrays could have been accused of taking their foot off the accelerator marginally. With the scores locked at 27 a piece at the main break Stingrays stand in Coach Nick Cox challenged many, whilst throwing the magnets around to manufacture a winning formula. After half-time, the Stingrays lifted their game up another gear, leaving the Jets in their wake. Western simply couldn’t keep up with the ferocious Rays, who gave their opponents no mercy. By the time the final siren rang, Dandenong had kicked away to a 76-point win kicking 7 unanswered goals in the third quarter and kicking 6 more in the last whilst only conceding one – which another timely reminder that the Stingrays are one of the genuine 2017 premiership threat. They will now enjoy a week off for a TAC Cup general bye, with an away game against the Calder Cannons on Saturday July 8th at Rams Arena, Craigeburn at 11.00am. “These next game is really important for us, we settle the changes a little and get 2-3 games into our 17 year olds,” Cox admitted. “We’ve been training hard since November 2016 for this situation, the boys have been doing their conditioning and extra work so when they got their chance they know that they’re going to understand their roles, whilst running out games really well.”

round 10 review

BERWICK 39.26.260 DEF HAMPTON PARK 1.1.7 The writing was on the wall when the juggernaut that is Berwick welcomed the bottom placed Hampton Park. The result was never in doubt, Berwick looking to maintain their undefeated run, while Hampton Park’s season from hell was continuing with more players leaving the Redbacks nest during the mid-season break. Berwick started the contest booting seven goals to one and establish a 42 - point lead at the first change. Berwick’s wealth of experience and exuberance of class was going to make them a difficult task to stop. After quarter-time it was the Berwick Show as the 2015 premiers slammed home 32.20 to one solidarity behind. Brody Connelly and Ash Smith had a field day combining for 14 goals, Bryce Rutherford was rampant around the ground, Rutherford has confirmed himself as one of the premier midfielders in the competition. It was a day to remember for young gun, Trent Thomas. Thomas has enjoyed his first year of senior football, cementing his spot in the seniors with eight goals from the last three weeks before putting on a scintillating display up forward. Thomas took his season tally to 24 goals, booting an empathetic 11 goals in his sides’ 253 point annihilation of Hampton Park. Berwick improved their percentage and all but ensured a Top-two finish at season’s end.

BEACONSFIELD 13.14.92 DEF PAKENHAM 8.4.52 The game was tight early, Troy McDermott starting the game as he finished last week, bobbing up and kicking the first goal of the match within a minute. Pakenham hit back through the courageous defender in Sam Blackwood. With the margin close both teams exchanged goals in a very physical first quarter, the Eagles led by a point. Beacy got the jump early in the second quarter when McDermott kicked his second the margin was out to 14 points. Pakenham livewire Jake Smith responded quickly to have the margin back under double figures. Young Eagle Luke Bettio had a debut, his second goal of senior footy had the home side back out in front by 13 points. Pakenham were determined to fight this contest out, neither team could score as Beacy led by 14 points at the main change. The premiership quarter was when The Eagles took a hold of the contest. Four unanswered goals including another for McDermott, had the Lions on the back foot and trailing by 39 points. Pakenham’s Tyler Guan kicked a goal against the run of play to provide the visitors with some hope, before McDermott kicked his fourth for the match and put the result beyond doubt with The Eagles leading by 39 points at the last change. With Beaconsfield in full control, Pakenham came out firing in the last term. The Lions booting four of the next five goals adding some respect to the scoreboard and it ensured a blowout wasn’t going to happen. Brad Homfray kicking the last goal of the match, capped off another best on ground performance this season from Homfray. The Eagles running out impressive winners by 40 points.

OFFICER 8.5.53 LOST TO DOVETON 18.10.118 Officer welcomed Doveton under pressure to perform after their most disappointing performance against Beaconsfield the week earlier. Doveton welcomed back experienced duo Rus

Gabriel and Ryan Hendy with immediate results. Gabriel was providing first use of the footy to their midfield brigade as Sam Raru and Nick Battle had plenty of the footy early. Officer was without big man Dylan Chapman and the human cannonball Chris La Rosa which prevented them having an impact around the footy. Hendy was the main beneficiary of their dominance hitting the scoreboard early combining with Kyle Hendy to give the visitors the early ascendancy as they led by 18 points at quarter time. The second quarter Doveton turned the screws and was dominating most of the one-on-battles. Officer were unable to get themselves into the contest, they looked good when they found the football in open space getting the ball quickly into their forward. An injury to Jake Ingalsio saw the defender move forward to support Matty Clarke as forward targets. Cam Williamson and Kaleb Van Beek where electric at ground level, their pace with football in hand often had the Officer defence scrambling as the Doves kicked five goals to two to lead by 36 points at halftime. Blair Allan came into the contest trying to impose himself as a forward option, but with Raru dominating the clearances ensured the Doveton forwards had plenty of supply. Doveton had opportunities to put this game to bed seven behinds kept Officer’s chances alive before club stalwart Shannon Henwood took two telling grabs close to goal and converted which put a stop any dramatic comeback. Doveton were in a comfortable position leading by 39 points with a quarter to play. Doveton got their kicking boots on in the last booting six goals straight, the Hendy boys combining for eight goals in their commanding 65 point win.

TOORADIN-DALMORE 8.13.61 LOST TO CRANBOURNE 13.11.89 Tooradin were slow out of the blocks against Cranbourne struggling to kick a goal until early in the second term. Cranbourne were at their clinical best booting the first three goals of the match to establish an early scoreboard dominance leading by 19 points at the first change. Dangerous small forward Ryan Jones kicked his second for the match, the Eagles were in front by 25 points. First year recruits Luke McKenna and Luke Edmondson kicked the last two goals of the quarter to give the underdogs some hope at home. Tooradin had the margin under two-goals by the main change, but wasted too many opportunities in front of goal. The Seagulls kicked seven consecutive behinds, basically kicking themselves out of the contest. With Marc Holt sidelined, Shaun Marusic drifted forward to kick two early goals to open the second half. Seagull spearhead Andrew Dean broke free from Brandon Osborne, kicking truly and reducing the deficit to only 20 points. The Eagles rose to the challenge kicking three of the next four goals including Jones’s third and the away side enjoying 33-point buffer at the last break. Dean scored his second goal reducing the margin under five-goals and provided a glimmer of hope. The premiers kicked the next three goals including Marusic’s third to extend their lead to 46 points. To Tooradin’s credit they never dropped their heads and snuck home three in a row to add some respectability to the scoreboard but also rue those misses earlier in the game. Cranbourne finishing the game in front by 28 points.

round 11 preview

DOVETON V PAKENHAM

NARRE WARREN V OFFICER

Last Time - Round 5 Pakenham 5.5.35 lost to Doveton 13.12.90

Last Time - Round 2 Officer 6.4.40 lost to Narre Warren 10.12.72

Doveton welcome Pakenham in the annual White Ribbon Clash as Doveton have gone a long way to increase the awareness of Domestic Violence in the South East of Melbourne. Doveton are finding themselves in the same position as previous season a rung down behind the top three sides in the competition. Consistency is Doveton’s biggest challenge between now and the end of the season. A healthy list helps with the consistency, but injuries have ravaged the Doves middle part of the season but this has provided an opportunity for their young brigade to get a taste of senior footy. Pakenham have shown plenty of improvement over the past six weeks of footy. The Lions have been competitive early which helps keep them in the contest for longer and with an experienced core, Pakenham are a chance to cause an upset or two before the season is finished. Can the Lions cause one here?? Doubtful as the Doves looked good in patches against Officer last week. Doveton showed plenty of pace guided with slick ball movement which had Officer on the back foot and will be looking to do the same at home. Doveton by 25 points

Officer put in one of their better performances against the perennial finalists Narre Warren in their first encounter. A repeat performance would be satisfactory but an ever better performance from the Kangaroos will show how far they have improved as a football club going in a new direction. Injuries to star playmakers has come at the wrong time for Officer, who at one stage during the season were considering themselves as finals contenders. The door on the finals isn’t completely shut but they would need to regain that winning form again pretty quickly. Sometimes football seasons can be defined in moments. In their last encounter, Narre were pushed to their limits. With their backs to the wall, Narre found something burning with in. People were again questioning whether the Magpies were a legitimate threat or a team making up the numbers in the top 5. Well the Magpies faced their challenges head on and played some inspired football against Doveton. An eight-goal last quarter could be the tonic that the Magpies needed to build into their season. With eight games to go there is still plenty to play for but Narre look better equipped to handle the high intensity, high pressure footy that these games present. With Berwick, Beaconsfield and Cranbourne in the next three weeks, this is a must win game for Narre Warren at Kalora Park. Narre by 56 points.

CRANBOURNE V BERWICK Last Time - Round 2 Berwick 10.10.70 def Cranbourne 3.5.23 A grand final preview in the middle part of the season is mouth-watering. The two combatants enter the contest full of confidence. Cranbourne and Berwick have been the inform teams of the past two seasons and it’s always an eagerly anticipated contest. It’s a similar story to last year, Berwick won their first encounter and Cranbourne came back and put them to the sword which gave them the confidence for the rest of the season. Berwick got the jump early in Round 2, Cranbourne came into the contest with a soft underbelly after defeating Hampton Park in the opening round of the season. Berwick have been unstoppable, commanding their position as the early premiership favourite. The Wickers are in for a test at Casey Fields, they won’t be able to dictate the midfield battle and will need to ensure their back six play tight. Cranbourne are great at exposing opponents’ weaknesses and will look to rebound from defence into attack with real purpose. Both teams are so even, matched with great contests across the park. It’s a difficult task to try and tip a winner as the result may not be decided until late in the contest, it could come down to a war of attrition, which team can step up for the full 120 minutes. Cranbourne will be fighting tooth and nail to bring Berwick’s first loss of Season 2017. It’s a real toss of the coin affair, Cranbourne’s stocks will improve if their inspirational leader Marc Holt returns. It’s going to be a tight contest, the coin landed on heads with Cranbourne to win by 3 points.

HAMPTON PARK V BEACONSFIELD Last Time - Round 5 Beaconsfield 16.26.122 def Hampton Park 2.1.13 It’s becoming ugly now.. Hampton Park have hit rock bottom and it looks like the only thing that can save them is the end of the season. Just when you thought things couldn’t worse for the Redbacks, Hampton Park were trounced by 253 points at the hands of the premiership favourite Berwick. Beaconsfield have been impressive under first year coach Leigh McQuillian but still have plenty of work to do. There is a logjam towards the top of the SEFNL ladder and percentage could become vital with teams shuffling positions at the business end of the season. The Eagles are sitting third with a whopping 50% separating them and fourth, due to the fact their defence is currently ranked second for the lowest amount of scores conceded. People have questioned Beaconsfield’s potency, do they have the firepower to match the top-two sides in the competition? Well those questions were answered when Beacy slotted home 26 goals against Officer in Round Nine and will be looking for a similar score line against Hampton Park this weekend. What can Hampton Park expect from the second half of the season?? Coach Dean Warren has been expressing patience is required but for these young inexperienced players you can only hope they are gaining the experience and applying themselves in a way they can learn to better themselves as footballers. There is no easy game in the SEFNL this season but the Redbacks will be looking to hit the scoreboard more often at home. Beacy by 131 points.

Last weekend we ventured on down to Officer Football Club for a jam packed day full of Football and Netball. Our U19’s have been now been selected in division one for the remainder of the season, which is a credit to themselves. Unfortunately that means some games they will be playing at different grounds then the other football and netball sides.

raising awareness and taking a stand against violence and any kind of disrespectful behaviour towards women. This is something as a club we are extremely proud of. Go Doves #doveylove

Our Under 19s went in once again down on personnel due to opportunities to 8 of our boys in the seniors and after a bright start got outplayed by Beaconsfield. Fantastic fight shown once again against the odds. Ricky Johnson was terrific as was Jake Nicholson and Jake Blackwood. Keep up the hard work boys and the wins will come. The Reserves worked hard all day with limited numbers to come back from behind and win by 2 points. Ash Scott, Travy D and Jordy were brilliant in the midfield all day, while Tristan Warkuss won countless one on ones around the ground to keep us in the game. What a win – well done boys! The seniors knew that going into this game was do or die as we head into the business end of the season, which was then further riddled due to players pulling out due to injuries. But a credit to every single U19’s player who has stepped up and done an exceptional job over the past few weeks not just in the seniors but in the reserves also. We started off competitive and by the end of the first we had Officer at just one goal. By the second we had settled in nicely. Sam Raru dominated the midfield the whole day with a best on ground performance, followed closely by Big Russ who dominated every single contest. Our forward line had a nice little confidence boost with solid efforts by Ryan Hendy, Kyle Hendy and Shannon Henwood who combined booted 10 between them. Whilst Big Frank and Matt Jameson worked tirelessly at the other end of the field all day. Well done on the win boys and keep up the hard work on the track. This weekend we welcome Pakenham to Robinson Reserve for our annual White Ribbon Round. We welcome all players, parents and supporters to join us in the rooms from 12pm until 2pm for a kitchen tea, guest speakers and much more. There is a $5 entry fee which goes directly to the White Ribbon Foundation. The Doveton Football Netball Club was the very first local football/ netball club to recognise the responsibility we have in

This week the Pakenham Football Club venture to Doveton FC, for our annual white ribbon day clash between Doveton and Pakenham. We need to stop violence against women before it happens. This is the work of primary prevention and it is where the work of White Ribbon Australia is focused. What is primary prevention? Prevention and response to violence can be classified in a number of ways, for example: Primary prevention action is implemented before violence against women occurs and aims to stop the likelihood of men and boys using violence against women and girls. This prevention action does this by addressing the root causes of violence. The White Ribbon social movement and programs focus on primary prevention. Examples of primary prevention include: • public information and awareness raising campaigns • educational programs in schools programs in workplaces

We all need to ensure that violence against women ceases. We thank the Doveton Football Club in their initiative in promoting the White Ribbon Foundation. REVERSE DRAW, TOMORROW FROM 1pm Don’t forget to get your ticket to our major fundraiser!! The $10,000 draw! Limited drinks while the draw is going and every 50th ticket that is drawn out gets their money back. You have to be in it to win it! Get your friends together and buy into syndicate tickets for more chances to win! PLAYERS!! Please bring your ticket books back sold!! The more tickets you sell the better the day will be. • government policy establishing frameworks and standards for preventing violence against women • and promoting gender equality. Through education, awareness raising and creative campaigns, preventative programs, partnerships and political advocacy, White Ribbon Australia highlights the positive role men can play to stop violence against women and enables them to be part of this social change. White Ribbon uses the definition of men’s violence against women found in the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women: ‘any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivations of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life.’ The impact of this violence on women can be physical, sexual and psychological. Violence against women can also result in death: women die from the negative health effects of violence and some are killed. Violence against women affects women’s well-being and prevents them from fully participating in society. It also impacts on families, the community and the nation.

Last week we headed down to Tooradin as the 19Bs, Ressies and Seniors took on the Gulls. Our Under 19As had an appointment at Narre Warren and judging by the first quarter, it appeared as if our boys had fronted up to Tooradin rather than Narre as we got off to our slowest start of the season. We didn’t bother the scorers until midway through the 2nd quarter and went in to the long break with just one goal on the board and 25 points behind. Our second half was much better however and we piled on the pressure and kept Narre to just one goal while we added 3.4 to fall just short by nine points. With the new divisional structure taking place from round 10, every game is going to require our guys to be switched on from the start as we are playing quality opposition every week. Best for the day were Tyson Stiglich, Jack Benham, Nick Russo, Josh Donald and Cal White. The 19B’s recorded their second win of the season as they came away with a 44-point win over an improving Tooradin side. While our boys got away to a good start and were never headed, the Gulls never threw the towel in and made us work for every score. The boys are playing some really good footy at the moment and this side will definitely benefit from the new divisional structure and we can expect to see a few more wins this year before the season is out. Best for us were Thomas Hodge, Johnathon Lucas, Harkireth Calais, Sean Wilson, Matt Harvey-Sich and Tyson Disher. The twos came away with a win that was hard-earned as is usually the case against Tooradin. While held the lead all day, it was a grind till the end which hopefully hold our guys in good stead for the big clash against Berwick this week. Best were Chode, Spud, Holty, Lachie, Fish and Chaz. Tooradin had no doubt set their sights on taking our scalp and while the 28-point winning margin for us is more than acceptable, at times we looked as though we were going to break the game wide open to record a big win and send a message, only to drop off at various times. Leading by just nine points at the main break, our 3rd quarter was as good as we’ve played this year and we broke the shackles early by kicking the first three goals of the quarter inside the first 10 minutes. We extended that lead out to 46 points midway through the last only to concede some late goals which flattered the Tooradin scoreboard a little. Best were Yoz, Micky, Moz, Darbo, Maxxy and Tar. This week we welcome Berwick to Frenken Homes Oval in what will hopefully be a super day of quality football and netball. Milestone A massive congratulations to Troy Tharle this week as he runs out for his 200th senior game. “Moz” is a Cranny boy through and through, having played all of his junior footy with the CJFC. He is a dual premiership player for the club and one of our most loved players. Moz is in career best form and we look forward to him running out for the 200th time this week. Events On July 8 we play Officer/ROC at home and we are hosting our first ever “Starlight Foundation” luncheon. There are limited tickets available for this wonderful cause, with all profits from luncheon going to the Starlight Foundation. Good luck to all teams this weekend. Go Eagles!!

With the winter colds sweeping through the club we had a mountain of late withdrawals from both the seniors and reserves. We were luck the under 19s had a bye so a few of the boys stepped up to make up the numbers in the reserves. They acquitted themselves very well and did not look out of place against the bigger bodies. A big thank you to Hampton Park football club who at one point looked as though they struggle to field a team. In true Redback

fashion they made some calls and got a team up. There may have been a few oldies out there with a few first gamers but at least they, and importantly to us, got a game of football under their belt. This weeks wees us enter into a solid few weeks of football. Cranbourne first and then Narre the week after at home DONT FORGET TO SELL YOUR MAJOR RAFFLE TIX AS IT IS DRAWN THIS SUNDAY

19A’s played Cranny on Saturday at a wet Fox Rd. The boys had super 1st quarter and led by 24 points at 1/4 time. After even 2nd and 3rd quarters we went into the last 25 points up and as expected Cranny came home strong cutting the end margin to 9 points. Great effort by our boys in tough , slippery conditions . Best players were Tom Miller, Tom Toner, Pete Gentile ,Jack Toner & Jakey Stuart. Narre B side headed to Officer for round 1 of the split division set up. Last meeting between the sides ended very one sided so our boys were looking to make amends. Like many first quarters this season our side started slow and allowed Officer to build an early lead. While we were never able to claw back

into the game on the scoreboard we prevented Officer from building a big lead and in the end went down by 26 points, a massive improvement from their clash only 3 weeks ago. Best on the day for Narre, Vice Captain Tyson Graham again lead the way with Brandon Hogan and Benny Kanka strong contributors & Brodie Jamison strong up forward with 3 goals Our young group continues to improve week after week and we look forward to some positive results in the back end of the season. Welcome everyone to our Round 11 gave against Narre Warren at Narre Warren. Last week’s effort against Doveton was another one to forget - let’s hope we’ve come to play today and can give a good account of ourselves against one of the top sides. The Reserves last week looked to have the game won but failed to score in the last quarter and allowed Doveton a two point win. The Under 19’s were our only winners on the day in their game against Narre Warren “B”. The U19’s has now been split into two Divisions and we look forward to a more even and competitive competition.

Well last weekend proved a tough day at the office for both teams coming up against the ladder leaders. Big thanks to the guys that filled in for the Reserves to enable them to take to the field plus the coaches that also played on the day. The endeavour shown by both teams cannot be faulted. Better players in the Reserves were; J Wallace, N Dawes, S Puwaye, A Lawless & C Rodney. The senior game was a case of boys vs men, there are patches were we play quite well however effort cannot be sustained against the stronger teams. round 10 netball review

BEACONSFIELD 52 DEF PAKENHAM 35 One of form sides of 2017, Beaconsfield got off to a blitzing start against low ranked Pakenham. The Eagles flew the coup so to speak as they went about their business quickly and set up their win early. Beacy managed to establish a nine goal quarter-time lead and never looked to be headed. The Eagles maintained the gap during the second as their class too control. Rylee Nelson has had a fantastic season and was controlling the centre court battles, with plenty of support on the wings from the likes of Jasmine Jones and Kate Murphy. Beaconsfield were unstoppable in the third quarter, The Eagles outscored the Lions 20-10 as they had a firm grip on their seventh consecutive win for the season. To the Lions credit they continued to play hard and put up a fight against the second placed Eagles. Kate McGowan had her work cut-out for her and Carly Saunders was terrific in attack. Beacy were impressive once again winning by 17 goals.

BERWICK 43 DREW HAMPTON PARK 43 The first drawn match of the season happened at Berwick. The Wickers enjoyed a lightning start, controlling most of the play leading by five goals (13-8) and extended their lead at the main break to seven (22-15). It looked like Berwick were cursing continuing to dominate most of the play and The Wickers had their third win of the season in their sights, setting up a commanding lead of nine goals (35-26) with a quarter to go. Enter the Redbacks, with sixth spot on the line and their finals chances fading, Hampton Park produced a final quarter for the ages. The Redbacks got themselves up and about early in the final stanza. Megan Egbers was on fire, shooting the lights out in a dynamic display. Egbers lead the visitors back into the contest in a flurry. Maddi Hanlen was starting to have an influence around the centre and within a blink of an eye, The Redbacks had reduced the margin against The Wickers. Berwick have produced some fantastic netball over the last month and it was going to be a thrilling finish. Egbers

finished the quarter with 13 final quarter goals as the Redbacks came from nine goals down to outscore the Wickers 17 goals to eight as teams finished tied 43 goals apiece when the final whistle blew.

ROC 41 LOST TO DOVETON 59 Doveton welcomed back some of their better performed players this season and went straight to work doubling ROC’s score during the first quarter (16-8). Rahni Samason was relishing being back in the shooters circle. Goalers are only as strong as their mid-court. Hayley Stewart and Chelsea Imanisani controlled most of the battles. Samason was on a tear, Samason shot at close to 90% going for 14 goals from 16 attempts. The Doves dominance set the tone for the rest of the afternoon at Starling Road. The Kangaroos had some great individual performances from club stalwarts Laura Quinn and Mel Overdyk but it wasn’t enough to get ROC back into the contest. Doveton’ strong performance has all but assures them a finals spot, while ROC have lost their last six matches and would need a dramatic form reversal to get themselves back into the finals picture.

TOORADIN-DALMORE 38 LOST TO CRANBOURNE 41 Improved performances against the Top-Three teams had Cranbourne confident they could cause a boil over and knock off the undefeated team in the competition. The Eagles had the Seagulls on the back foot early, establishing a five-goal lead (13-8), on the back of some formidable defensive play and rebound from Sharni Lambden and Tara Cecil. Under pressure Cranbourne stuck to their task well, maintaining a slender four goal advantage throughout the match. The Eagles did a great job controlling the mid-court, Natalie Sparks was a dominant force on the wing while Mel Perrins played a blinder in her 100th senior match. Tooradin came back in the last but Cranbourne had plenty of resolve and held on to an important win. It was the Eagles first major scalp handing the Seagulls their first loss of the season.

Last Time - Round 2 Berwick 41 lost to Cranbourne 43

Last Time - Round 5 Pakenham 38 lost to Doveton 53

Cranbourne welcome Berwick stock full of confidence after upsetting the undefeated Tooradin at Tooradin last weekend. Cranbourne are riding a two game winning streak but have been around the mark all season, their biggest loss only 8 goals against Beaconsfield. Berwick have been one of the big improvers through the middle part of the season, a drawn match last week against Hampton Park has left them 10 points behind fifth. Cranbourne’s staunch defence is where they setup the play, The Eagles have only conceded 40 goals on average this season. The Wickers have a potent attack, their quick ball movement through the mid court allows their goalers to get into prime shooting positions. Cranbourne need to continue their winning ways to ensure a Top-5 position and a win here could close the door on Berwick playing finals. Cranbourne by 7 goals

Doveton have two must wins before their break due to the bye, if Doveton win both they will guarantee their finals birth. At full strength Doveton are one of the best teams to watch, their young attack light up the court. Pakenham are still yet to win a game this season but with determination their first win isn’t too far away. Pakenham have found it hard to find consistency over the stretch of four quarters, in patches they have been competitive against most sides. If the Lions can bring their competitive edge early and maintain that level for the entire match they are a chance for an upset, especially now with one of their leaders Meaghan Winters returning to the court. Doveton has been good all season and it’s hard to see them dropping this game at home. Doveton by 14 goals.

NARRE WARREN V ROC Last Time - Round 2 ROC 29 lost to Narre Warren 54 Narre come into the contest fresh off the bye and will be looking to quickly hit their straps. ROC have hit the skids and haven’t won a game since late April, their six game losing streak has them languishing second last on the ladder. The Kangaroos task won’t be any easier this week as they travel to Kalora Park to take on a genuine finals contender. What can you say about a Narre side which hasn’t been said before? Narre are a supreme outfit which has been getting better every single week, which is a big call for a side who has dominated the competition over the past two seasons. Greg and Jade Heinrich have done a brilliant job integrating new players into the senior line-up, a compliment to their system is that the girls who have stepped up haven’t looked out of place. ROC will need to pull out all the stops to be competitive in this match. A major issue The Roos face is their defence has struggled to contain most offences, which will be exposed against the second best shooting side in the competition as the Magpies average 53 goals a match. Narre to win by 15 goals.

HAMPTON PARK V BEACONSFIELD Last Time - Round 5 Beaconsfield 42 def Hampton Park 37 Hampton Park are the most legitimate side outside of the Top-5 to make a finals push even though they drew with Berwick last week. The Redbacks have been inconsistent for the most half of this season which sees them 1.5 games off fifth. Beaconsfield have taken their game to new levels this season which sees them only percentage away off top spot. The Eagles pressure all over the court, makes it hard for any opposition to get into the contest, often dictating the terms of play. Beaconsfield have too much experience and class to be fully tested by Hampton Park. A win here for The Eagles will have them perched and ready to fight Tooradin and Narre Warren for the minor premiership. Beacy have recorded the highest score for the season, which shows their attack is on fire and will burn Hampton Park’s defence. The Redbacks will need to hit the court running to ensure they aren’t blow out of the water early. Beacy by 9 goals

On a very cold morning we travelled to Tooradin last week where our 13’s kicked off the day with frozen fingers. An awesome 4 goal win for our very young 13 white team. Everyone played a great game. Some great passages of play. And a great show of sportsmanship for such a young team. Our 13 Reds played 3 great quarters of competitive netball unfortunately during the second quarter they allowed Tooradin to get a 10 goal lead and we weren’t able to catch up. As always, great team spirit from the all girls. Massive win for the 15 white team. The girls were focused and everything went according to plan. The result was a 50 goal win! All the 15 Red girls worked hard and the talk on the court was great. A little scrappy at first but once they found their groove were amazing. Coming away with a 18 goal win. Bit of a slow start for the 17 white team and were behind at quarter time. They rallied in the second and was even at half time. From there the girls never looked back and had a great 15 goal Win. 17 Red: Strong and steady win for the team. Having all 9 players this week the coaches tried out some different combinations and everyone adapted well. Result 43-21. Well done girls. D grade. With the score even at half time, the girls settled in during the 3rd but their last quarter was outstanding. 8 goal for the girls.

Played a good game just falling short of the win. A grade. With total focus and determination the girls took the court to play the strong undefeated Tooradin side. And Wow this game was top quality netball from both teams. Our A graders were on fire!! Skilled, composed and intense for every second of the game. Awesome win for our amazing A Grade girls. The club would like to congratulate Mel Perrins on playing her 100th senior game last week against Tooradin. Mel is one of our quiet achievers in our A grade team, always giving 100% every week. Well done Mel! Thanks to the ongoing support from our sponsors: Yo-Get-It Trios Sports Bar Sports Co Thermofilm Y-Not Lawn and Garden Care After a couple of away games we are looking forward to hosting Berwick this week. GO EAGLES!

C grade. What a fantastic game to watch. Many turn overs from our defenders. Mid court showing strength and total focus and the goalers on fire. Great win against a strong Tooradin side. B grade. With a few players sick and injured this week the fill ins stepped up and looked like they had always played in this team. Great support from the side lines.

berwick As we travel to Cranbourne this week for White Ribbon Round, lets put our hands together for the dad’s that are Volunteers and part of the backbone of all SEFNL Clubs. These people do their utmost to assist on game day when and where possible.

courts and the football ground during the day to support both his children. We appreciate Claude’s presence at the set up of our courts each home game. Claude has also provided some new signs and equipment for the club and is always around to lean on.

At Berwick Netball Club, we have a great contingent of dad’s who have stepped up to the plate on our Executive and General Committee’s. Without our netball Dad’s some things at BNC would be much more difficult to achieve.

There are many a thing the supporters don’t see that goes on behind the scenes of a club, where these men and others are out on the courts sweeping away the debris from the weather, pushing the water off the courts before and in between games. Hanging banners, putting up tents, ensuring we have ice courtside and when all is ready for the game of the day A Grade, they get to sit back and watch from their usual positions courtside and enjoy the final game of the day.

Steve Santamaria - Vice President, father to Elliott - 15 & U red, husband to Theresa- C Grade. Steve is always one of the first to arrive on our home games and last to leave. Steve mans the BBQ for the most part of the day and can be seen donning the Pink Court Supervisors vest. Steve is also our umpire Coordinator and one of our main men leading our club. As a netball dad, he wouldn’t have it any other way supporting his girls on court. David Green - Treasurer, father to Simone - 17 & U red and past player Nicole - B Grade. Dave is one of our long term Executive Committee members and has been our trusty Treasurer for the past 2 years. Dave is more often than not seen on game day in our pink Supervisor’s vest and certainly always cooking up a storm on the BBQ. The support that Dave gives off the court behind the scenes to all involved within BNC is limitless. Claude Macente - father to Liv - A grade and Nick who is a senior player at the Berwick Football Club, also a committee member for the BFC. Claude splits his time between both

As President of this wonderful club, I would like to publicly thank all of the Berwick Netball Club dad’s who support their children on court each and every week, some like Michael Loulanting, who stands between 2 courts to watch his 2 girls who play at the same time. The dedication to their children, our players, by time keeping and scoring or even manning our club gate, is what the family atmosphere we thrive on in the culture at Berwick. With cold weather predicted this Saturday these gentlemen will be courtside early setting up some tents for cover at Cranbourne and ensuring their is a “home’ place for the Berwick Netball Club to gather at our away game this week. Please if you happen to be standing with any of our dedicated dads’ this week, please just pass on a little thank you for all that they do.

Our Narre Warren netballers enjoyed the bye at the weekend. Looking ahead to the second of the season, we hope to improve our results from the first half of the year. At the half way mark of the season our teams are all in the mix, with all ten teams sitting in the top five. Round Ten is VIP round at Narre Warren, where we acknowledge our very important sponsors, coaches, team managers and hard-working volunteers. Thank you to our Match Day netball sponsors: Jay Q Plastering, Inspire Sports Group, Tru Plumbing, McGill Family, Fountain Gate Bingo, South East Tattoo Removal, P3 Sports & Recovery, Mongelli Constructions, Aly Heinze, Subway Narre Warren & Fountain Gate Panels. Special thanks to the ongoing dedication of our 2017 coaching team; Amy Rae, Jemma Osborne, Michelle Mashado, Glenn Stow, Jayde Stow, Holly Booth, Leigh Taylor, Carly Camilleri, Rebekah Bogos, Jade and Greg Heinrich. Our coaches would be lost without our Team Managers, who keep them organised; Nat De La Sota, Simone Potter, Kim Hammond, Steve

Woolfe, Paul Cairns, Lisa Hatigan, Marg Stuart, Donna Maund, Jill Brown and Jodi McLaren. Finally a big shout out to our Netball Coordinators, Sue and Meaghan who oversee our 90 netballers and ensure our courts and netball rooms are ready for training and match days. Good luck to our ten teams who face ROC for Round 11!

Under 17 RED Challenging game against Doveton at Home, but we went into game confident about our ability to compete and win. Unfortunately we let the opposition dictate how we played. Through physical pressure and tight defense, we were forced to lose our focus through the middle part of the game, and could not get it back. We need to regroup, focus and DO!!! We cannot accept anything less as a group if we expect to be there at the pointy end of the season. Best On Court Award for the game went to Topsy Morgan well done. Last weekend we travelled down to ROC away and what a day of netball it was! U13 Red: Tough opposition for our girls today, ROC are certainly a quality side. It took us a qtr or two to find some rhythm, our last qtr the girls did exactly as was asked of them by the coach, we need to regroup and keep our heads for the whole game today against Pakenham. U13 White: So incredibly proud of my little baby Doves they came up against a big ROC team they fought so hard such an improvement from our last game losing my 29 goals is massive compared to their 49 goals last time. I’m an incredibly proud coach. U15 Red: Came out on fire. We held the game nicely and really brought it up to ROC. A few fumbles and silly passes cost us the game in the end, but we learn from those thing, we work hard off the court and push on. Well done ladies very proud of you all. Under 15 White: What an improvement on round 1 girls! With some good passages of play you guys did everything asked of you! Every week we get better and better our aim against Pakenham is 4 solid quarters of netball together! Go Doves. U17 Red: Well Well Well. With a great night on the track Thursday night, And a great warm up. Was looking for a big response... Girls came out with a positive attitude, just could not deliver our passes, with turn overs a plenty, the game was tight at 1/2 time. A few changes and we got going. Great team work and quick ball movement we got a handy lead.. Defence solid, Goalies goaling, And a mid court that gave 100%. We came away with A very good team effort win. Thursday training, Might need some passing, and a few more push ups!!! J.B. Out!!!!!!!!!! U17’s White: Great game today girls with a few new girls in and a few girls out and away. Our team formed very well and we had the game from the start. There

were nice passages of play and great teamwork and backing up the whole game. Good Luck against Pakenham. D Grade: Finally got back on their winning run after a few loses of late. We applied what we have been working on at training into our games. With Min staring in her new GD position, we really showed ROC we were ready to play! We allowed them to catch back up in the third quarter but we ran away nicely with it in the last. Well done on a great team effort.

A Grade: We had one target, win by 20 so a certain girl could play her selected position. 3quater came close but we fell short by 3. Maybe against Pakenham, a netball dream might come true? Nice win though ladies Bring on Pakenham this weekend ladies!

C Grade: Some great passages of play from my ladies today. Awesome display of team work and positivity as well. We may not have come out with the win but, that’s not to say we didn’t have any wins on court! Defence was solid and our attackers matched to convert. A few minor errors in the mid court but nothing we can’t work with and fix!! Fantastic effort today ladies! Next game is OURS!!! Let’s give it to them #uptheDOVE styles!! B Grade: Energy levels showed from the get go on how the game was going to look. Average warm means average start to the game, had to chase the whole time. Defensively I couldn’t have asked for anything better, give us a lot of opportunities to get us back into it but unfortunately we fell short. Let’s turn up ready to roll next week, no excuses!

Congratulations to our U15 Red team on their draw with Beaconsfield last weekend, it was a sensational game to watch the display of determination and team work together with the focus on delivering what your Coach Caitlin was asking each quarter. Well done to both Caitlin and the U15 Red players! At Pakenham we have a strong proud history of being very community based and part of that is each week the two committees combine to ensure delicious home cooked meals for their players after training. By providing our players with meals it encourages and fosters friendships on and off the court and maintains the one team one club environment which is so very important and one that we value. We encourage all players, families and supporters to take up this opportunity particularly our senior playing group. With the school holidays approaching the club is looking at two events for our junior players, being an additional specialist netball clinic/training together with meals being offered at the earlier time of 6.15pm on 6th July to encourage all our junior players with their families to join us. Details of both events can be found on the club’s Facebook and team app.

Under 15s today played a well-oiled Berwick. Our first half had some really good intensity all over the court keeping us in good spirit. Second half saw a few girls tiring but heads stayed high and all continued to dig deep. Berwick’s energy, unfortunately, defeated us in the last half. With 2 U13s filling in for us and our new recruit Rylee, TJ and I thought you all did well against a strong team like Berwick. Thanks to our fill ins Tara and Sharna you played really well. 17 Whites came out ready and desperate for a win this week. Unfortunately, we played along the sidelines and lost a lot of ball. Our defence was tight, and our attacking and improved a lot this week. Unfortunately, Berwick wanted it more. Best on were Annalise Miall and Emma Smith for their defensive pressure and 110% attitudes! Welcome back Emma! 17 Reds faced Berwick and finally had our full team back since round 2, sadly not for the whole game not wanting to push it hoping to have everyone as a whole for the rest of the season! We came on absolutely firing wanting another win against Berwick, although lost our energy in 3rd quarter, at 3rd quarter time the girls came to realising we wanted a win today! Best on Layni Keyzer your welcome to be sick every week darl D grade came out firing this week, we worked on ring attacking this week and put it in to court play and it looked amazing our attacking line was strong, fast and unstoppable along with our defence end getting so many turnovers and our goalers rewarded them, this win has put us in 3rd.

C grade too came out firing starting strong and finishing strong, with a few little niggly injuries the girls pushed on for the game and came away with an 11 goal win. Your press worked and was loud. This win also put us in 3rd. Best on was Skye skipping from end to end but didn’t seem to bother you and Bel perfect timing on your drives, great patience and front cuts which is what I asked of you. B-grade was an up and down game consistency wise. When we played our best we ran away with it. Our worst let them back into the game. Berwick came back hard in the last qtr. but we managed to hold on to win by a goal. Attitudes are positive so we will work hard during the week and improve our performance next week. Best on ground was Khloe and Alisha A grade was a tough game against Berwick unfortunately losing the 1st ¾ combinations weren’t working out defence pressure down the court wasn’t strong enough and with 21 bad passes for the game was never going to be easy but going into our last quarter 9 goals down to work hard as a team we came away with a draw, let’s go into this week’s game with the intensity we had in our last 10 mins of last week’s game. Well down to Khloe, Alisha and Mega for coming up from B grade and working endlessly. Best on Megs and H for a smashing last quarter in WA. Special mention to Chan for our last move in last quarter. Shannon Lee and Brooke Kiely we missed you on the court. Shan hope your resting that ankle and we wish you safe travels and can’t wait to have you back on the court when you get back.

Best on could have gone to any player everyone played their best netball but Janko was sure the stand out for me.

A Grade-Beacy backed up their performance from last week with a victory at home. The game allowed us to try some variations in our combinations, & fine tune some of our structures across the court. It was great that we were able to finish the game off strongly, & focus on our defensive positioning. BOC went to Taylah who played her most consistent game for the season & Rylee for her great game at C. B Grade-A fantastic team effort by all players in their win, the girls got off to a great start & created numerous turnovers across the court with strong defence. They put together 4 fantastic qtrs, starting with Courtney, Gabbi & Bec in the defensive end, working to pressure every entry into the goal circle. Zoe & Ciara defended well with Zoe earning a BOC for her tenacious & disciplined defence. Mel presented well on the centre pass & fed well into the goalers. Kelly, Corrine & Danielle kept the scoreboard ticking over & also provided a strong target for the feeders.

Awards: Tahlia, Keely & Chloe. 13 Red-The girls came out focused & firing in the 1st qtr & the girls made a great head start whilst playing in the drizzle, applying defence pressure all the way down the court. As each qtr progressed the girls continued to build on their lead which allowed us to experiment with new combinations. 13 White’s team focused on passing into the goal ring at training & it had an immediate positive reaction. As there was a high turn around in playing positions each qtr, all players feeding the ball to the goalers ensured they chose the right option to make it more difficult for the defenders. The ball movement around the ring was excellent & Beacy controlled all areas of the game. The team is in an excellent position when ALL players can play any position on the court! We are heading towards the exciting end of the season & all players need to maintain the positive attitude & close team spirit at training & on game day we have seen all season.

Awards: Zoe, Kelly, Mel & Ciara. C Grade came out firing with a fast start & continued to keep the momentum throughout the game. Our shooting was on from the get go & the midcourt continued to run hard all game. Thanks to Teneille who popped up from the U17s to help out in defence. Awards: Paris, Suzie, Molly & Sam. D Grade-Beacy had a strong start & kept pushing out the margin through the game, eventually coming away with a 40 point win. The girls were able to move the ball smoothly down the court & capitalize in the goal end. Intercepts down the court were strong & movement in the ring allowed midcourters to feed well into the goalers. Awards: Claire, Shelley, Emily & Maddie K. 17 White-After a tightly contested 1st qtr the girls put together some great passages of play late in the 2nd to take a nice lead into the 2nd half. Beacy’s defense was strong shutting down key players whilst the attackers worked around the tall arms of the Pakenham team. Awards: Mikaela, Jess & Bree. 15 Red-A great start with a couple of quick turnovers & goals. The girls continued to move the ball well but a few errors saw the ball go Pakenham’s way. A strong fightback in the 4th qtr, we finished the game with a draw. Awards: Alix P, Chelsea & Alix R. 15 White came out in wet slippery conditions & a game where we just couldn’t convert a high return of our shots on goal. The great thing about our team is our versatility across all positions. Well done to our defenders who put in a solid performance, while our midcourters never stopped running & presenting all game & credit to the shooters.
