Welcome to Round 12 of the SEFNL Berwick Motor Group Premiership Season.

a great way for clubs to celebrate the wonderful women who do so much around the clubs.

We start to head towards the business end of the season where the weather is fine, the grounds are in pristine condition and there is that finals feeling in the air! But right now, teams are slogging it through the games and training with wet cold miserable weather. So, make sure players that you warm up and cool down correctly so that you can be there to participate when your team gets to finals.

We look forward to another exciting week of football and netball - who knows what results will come from this round, we will just have to wait and see!

We are excited to announce that the Women’s in Sport Luncheon for clubs in the South East will be held on Friday 11th August in Beaconsfield. This is

Further themed rounds coming up: • Round 15: 29th July – Multicultural Round • SEFNL Finals Series: August 26th – September 16th That’s all from the SEFNL Desk this week, best of luck to all clubs over the weekend.

Did you know? In the past 12 months one in five (20%) people, in Australia, aged 16 - 85 years had a common mental illness (depressive, anxiety and/orsubstance use disorder).

currently accredited by MHFA Australia. For more information go to https://mhfa.com.au.

However, the age group found to be at the highest risk are people aged 16 -24 years, with one in four (26.4%) experiencing one or more of the common mental illnesses in any one year.

P3 Sports & Recovery and the Rotary Club of Berwick, with the support of SEFNL and SEJ, would like to see all our local football and netball clubs with an accredited Mental Health first aider who able to recognise, support and assist club members when they are developing or experiencing a mental health problem.

(National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing. Youth Mental Health First Aid manual, 4th ed)

P3 Sports & Recovery have Standard and Youth Mental Health First Aid courses being delivered in July.

How does this relate to your club? Let’s break it down….

12-hour Standard MHFA Course The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis.

2 senior football teams = approx 50 players 4 senior netball teams = approx 40 players 90 players: 20% = 18 players Let’s add the junior teams: 2 U19/U18 football teams = approx 50 players 6 junior netball teams = approx 60 players 70 players (U17 & U19): 25% = 17.5 players These examples have only highlighted the actual playing groups. We also need to take into account the coaches and coaching staff, trainers, team managers, timekeepers, canteen staff, bar staff, gate keepers, parents, siblings, supporters etc. When we add up the number of people involved in our clubs, the statistics are significant. In 2017, for every 100 people at your club aged 16 - 85, there may be 20 - 25 with a common mental illness. Children under the age of 16 also experience mental illness, particularly anxiety disorder (12-17 yo : 7%) and major depressive disorder (12 - 17yo:5%). (Australian Child and Adolescent Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing. Youth Mental Health First Aid manual, 4th ed). Mental health first aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or who is in a mental health crisis (e.g., the person is suicidal or has had a traumatic experience). Like physical first aid, mental health first aid is given until the person receives professional help or until the crisis resolves. Mental health first aid strategies are taught in evidencebased training courses authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and delivered by accredited MHFA Instructors across the country. P3 Sports & Recovery offers Standard and Youth MHFA Courses as authored by MHFA Australia, delivered by Instructors who are

LOVE THE GAME ROUND A host of Victorian football leagues across the state will encourage fans to remember the passion, not the odds as part of the 2017 Love the Game Round next month. AFL Victoria, in partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation is showing its support for the ‘Love the Game’ campaign through a number of initiatives, focused on helping reduce the exposure of our fans, officials and players to sports betting promotion. Held from July 8-9, the dedicated round will also assist participating community and state leagues to educate clubs on creating safe and healthy environments for members to understand the risks involved with the increased normalisation of gambling in the community. AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper said the ‘Love the Game’ Round will help remind football supporters what really matters. “AFL Victoria understands the importance of reducing harm from gambling and will encourage clubs to focus on the love of the game, not the odds, not just during the dedicated round but every round of the season,” Reaper said. “People need to be aware of their limits with gambling and the impact it can have on young people, particularly in a sporting club environment. “It’s time to get back to loving the game for

what it is and take the focus off betting and we are confident that our ongoing partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation will help us achieve that.” Twenty Victorian leagues across the state are joining in the campaign, hosting a number of activations within their communities to counter the growing culture of gambling in sport. Craig Swift, Acting CEO of the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, said they were working closely with over 270 clubs in Victoria at both the elite and local level to raise awareness about how gambling advertising is changing the way young people experience sport. “We are delighted to be working with AFL Victoria to highlight the Love the Game Round to all football fans. “Between the internet and smartphone technology, you now have the means to gamble in your pocket anytime, day or night and sport is where most of the promotion is occurring. “Reducing harm from gambling is something that needs to happen on an individual, industry, sporting club and community level and the Love the Game Round is showing the leadership and commitment of AFL Victoria to encourage all football fans to love the game and not the odds,” he said. For a list of participating Love the Game Round leagues, please www.aflvic.com.au or for more information about the foundation’s Love the Game program visit www.lovethegame.vic.gov.au

Pink’s Never Been So Sexy... Once a colour associated with femininity, pink now identifies with the heart wrenching struggles of breast cancer. It’s never been such a manly colour. Just a couple of decades ago the sight of a man in pink would’ve sparked national outrage. How times have changed… It’s a colour that represents caring, compassion and love. It stands for unconditional love and understanding and associated with the giving and receiving of care. This “soft” colour is now donned by rough and tough men all over the country in a united stand to fight for those we love. Those who’ve nurtured and guided us into the people we are today. 1 in 8. A daunting stat. That’s the number of women who develop breast cancer in their lifetime in Australia. That’s a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an aunt, a wife, a girlfriend, a daughter a niece or a friend. That’s more than 8 women just there. Many people will have seen the pain that breast cancer causes; the heartbreak for everyone involved. But women are fighters. The colour pink’s made up of a combination of red and white. Both colours and shades with appropriate characteristics. Red resembles the lust for action, the tough fight. And the white, the opportunity to succeed and learn. And that’s what we can do. Men, women, everyone. We can stand up and fight. And learn. And try everything we can to succeed.

Sometimes the simplest of gestures can be the most powerful. The sight of hardened football bodies crashing and bashing in pink socks or a pink strip knowing that there’s something bigger out there that means more. And that’s exactly what footballers and umpires around the league will be doing this weekend…Raising awareness and their little bit to make a difference. So just remember…Pink is sexy on anyone. But never more so than now… Get Involved SUA are always on the lookout for those crazy individuals who want to become umpires. It takes a certain type of person to want to umpire, but those people who take the brave step, often benefit greatly from all umpiring offers. If you love the game and you want to keep fit, learn life skills, meet new friends and earn some money then umpiring is for you. DOVETON 11.10.76 DEF PAKENHAM 6.11.47 Pakenham started the game in a flurry, their hard running and fluent ball movement had Doveton on the backfoot. The Lions kicked the first three goals and lead by as much as 20 points halfway through the quarter. Ryan Hendy used every ounce of his experience to produce two classic forward goals and reduced the margin to 14 points at quarter time. The Hendy show continued in the second term, Ryan booted another while Cousin Kyle kicked a great goal on the run as the Doves were back within a point. Pakenham missed goals as vital times in the quarter, when Kaleb Van Beek showed some class and kicked Doveton to a two-point halftime lead. Mitchell Lewis kicked a long range goal as it looked like Doveton had assumed the momentum, but Pakenham showed plenty of grit and determination to stay in the contest. Both teams exchanged goals to close out the third term as the Doves lead by 2 points at the final change. The last quarter had plenty of feeling in the match, with tensions at boiling point there where a few spiteful moments which took away from Doveton’s great effort to kick four goals and hold Pakenham scoreless. The scoreboard reflection could also be surrounded by the fact the Lions where two men down due to indiscretions. Ryan Hendy finished with a bag of five goals for the second consecutive match in the Doves hard fought 29 point win.

CRANBOURNE 6.4.40 LOST TO BERWICK 12.16.88 Berwick got straight to business at Casey Fields, in a battle between the best two sides in the league. The Wickers kicked three unanswered goals, their defensive unit was on top keeping the Eagles scoreless in the first quarter as they lead by 20 points. With so much riding on the outcome, Cranbourne stormed back into the contest scoring two goals in the first 10 mins of play reducing the margin to nine points. The teams exchanged goals before Berwick’s Bryce Rutherford kicked a goal late in the quarter to give the visitors a 15-point lead at halftime. Andrew Morozoff kicked the Wickers out to 21 points in the third before Khaled Kandakji kicked his second for the match for The Eagles, the margin remained close. A match defining moment was when the premiers had one of star playmakers Matt Fletcher sent off with a yellow card. This lead to Berwick scoring the next four goals including one to Morozoff and two to Brody Connelley had the ladder leaders looking towards their tenth consecutive win in a row this season. With the win in their grasp, Berwick continued to dominate a lot of the one-on-one contest.

Both teams exchanged goals in the last both as James Magner and James Harrison brought up their second goals in their impressive 48 point win.

NARRE WARREN 11.14.80 DEF OFFICER 11.7.73 Their first encounter was a tight physical contest and this was no different. Officer had been in a form slump of late and a difficult team to asses. Narre Warren squandered early scoring opportunities (2.6) and kept the door ajar for Officer. The Kangaroos kicked two late goals to reduce the margin to five points at the first change. Officer match-up well against Narre and it showed in the second quarter. Nick Scanlan was once again prominent up forward for the Magpies. The home side booted three for the quarter but costly misses was starting to hurt as they had nearly double amount of scoring shots by only led by 11 points at main change. Matty Clarke was performing at his optimum best and keeping his side in contest. Scanlan received some support from the midfield as they contributed four goals including one to Narre star Michael Collins who was enjoying the pace of the game. Narre appeared to have taken a grip over the contest setting up a 20 point lead. The game could have gone either way but Officer held tight came back kicking the last 3 goals of the match to fall short by seven points.

HAMPTON PARK 1.1.7 LOST TO BEACONSFIELD 33.26.224 Beaconsfield have wanted to be included as genuine finals contender all season, sitting in third The Eagles wanted to make a statement before their last bye for the season. A 10-goal to no score first quarter had the makings for a huge day for Beaconsfield. Troy McDermott and Scott Meyer turned back the clock in a dominating performances that helped Beaconsfield to a 121 point halftime lead. Hampton Park once again found themselves unable to make an impression on the scoreboard. Josh Wallace did manage to kick one goal which was their only goal for the afternoon. Beaconsfield had the opportunity to have an injection of percentage but could only manage kicking a further 4.7 to no score. Riley Verbi and Troy Aust was contributing up forward combining for eight goals between them. Beaconsfield finished the game like they started booting 10 goals, McDermott finished the day with 11 goals to take his goal tally to 35 goals for the season. Meyer booted one of his best ever hauls of eight goals, Beaconsfield had 59 scoring shots to two in their 217 point win.

DOVETON V HAMPTON PARK Last Time: Round 2 (Good Friday) Hampton Park 5.4.34 lost to Doveton 25.19.169 Doveton welcome the bottom placed Hampton Park who has conceded 72 goals and only kicked two goals in the last fortnight of football. It’s been a tough couple of weeks for the Redbacks and the last seven rounds don’t look to get any easier. Doveton come into the contest after battling through Officer and Pakenham, a win here will make it three on the trot and all but secure their place in the top five. Taylor Joyce starred in their Good Friday encounter booting 11 goals, but Joyce has been sidelined in recent weeks. Experienced campaigner Ryan Hendy has more then filled the hole booting consecutive bags of five goals, and will be chomping at the Big to get amongst the goals again this week. The Doves have introduced an abundance of speed to their line, Clayton McCartney takes the game on, breaking the lines with plenty of dash, while Cam Williamson and Kyle Hendy provide the pressure and have plenty of goal nous making it difficult for opposition defences keep their structures. Doveton will be too strong over four quarters and will win by 113 points.

BERWICK V NARRE WARREN Last Time: Round 5 Narre Warren 7.14.56 lost to Berwick 12.13.85 Berwick have now assumed outright premiership favourite while dispatching arch rival Cranbourne last season. Berwick have had the perfect start to the season amassing 10 wins from 10 matches, they are averaging over 113 points for while conceding less then 45 points against. It’s been an impressive performance to this point of the season and they will be hoping to maintain their form through to another premiership. Narre Warren would love nothing more then being the team to upset the Wickers applecart. Narre have been their own worst enemy at times this season, inaccurate kicking has been costly. Their ageing midfield built like warriors appears to have slipped off the pace only ever so slightly, as their dominance no longer intimidates the opposition. Berwick have taken their game to new levels this season, often the Wickers appear to be in cruise control. When will the Wickers face their acid test? Narre were competitive in patches last Time these teams played back in Round 5, crucial misses became costly as Berwick found ways to score to maintain the asecendacy. Berwick appeared too big and strong, their outside run made it hard for Narre to dictate the terms. Narre have played some of their best footy at Edwin Flack but they will need to play out of their skins to cause the upset and get one up against their arch rivals. Berwick by 33 points.

CRANBOURNE V OFFICER Last Time: Round 6 Officer 10.4.64 lost to Cranbourne 13.12.90 Cranbourne come into this contest licking their wounds after a disappointing display against Berwick last week. Cranbourne were quietly confident they were building towards making a impact in the race to the grand final. It was only their second loss of the season which means they can’t be too disappointed with their efforts to date. Premierships aren’t won in July and Coach Simon Goosey will be back at the drawing board re-working their plans, sometimes you can learn more from a loss. Officer are becoming a hard team to read, at their best they can push any team in the competition, at their worst they can be vulnerable against teams below them. Officer appeared to be slipping back into old habits over the last month, before an improved performance last week were they nearly upset Narre at Kalora Park. Dylan Chapman’s return to the seniors has really bolstered their big men department. Chapman will come up against one of The Eagles best players in Michael Boland. Chapman will have his work cutout for him around the ground. Cranbourne will look to build their game from defence and look to expose Officer in open play. Officer look good when they can get the ball to the outside, unfortunately it’s hard to predict that the Kangaroos can dictate the play for long enough. An interesting side note, Andre Young will be playing against some of his old teammates for the first time. Cranbourne to win by 45 points.

PAKENHAM V TOORADIN Last Time: Round 1 Tooradin 9.14.68 def Pakenham 5.8.38 Tooradin caused a bit of an upset in Round One, when the Seagulls defeated the Lions by five goals. It set the tone for Pakenham’s season, as the Lions have struggled to get themselves back into the season. Tooradin has been a team on the rise this season, momentary lapses have caused them to loose more games then they have won. Pakenham have steadily improved as the young Lions start to play better under first year coach Ash Green. Moving Jake Smith to the half-back has been a masterstroke, as it’s forced Smith to be in the game for longer. Smith has been dynamic at reading the play and also using the ball with deadly precision. Smith and Sam Blackwood combine well and help steer the Lions forward. Tooradin will go into the contest as favourite but they can’t underestimate their opposition this week. The Lions have shown they’re in the contests for longer and if they’re a chance at causing an upset it might happen in front of their faithful supporters at home. Tooradin appear to have too many winners across the ground and will be desperate for their fourth win of the season. It’s going to be a tight physical contest, it’s not often Tooradin enter a contest as favourites, will they commit for 120 minutes to prove worthy of the tag? Tooradin by 9 points.

Last weekend we celebrated our annual White Ribbon round against Pakenham. We hosted a high tea lunch which saw guest speakers such as Kylie Nicholas who’s sister was a victim of violence against women which sadly ended her short life. Kylie kindly spoke about her traumatic experience to our footballers and then to a room packed full of people who were all ears whilst she explained in detail about her experience and what her sister experienced as a victim, and to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house is an understatement. It was truly empowering to stand in the same room as people who have dedicated their life to making sure other families and friends never have to experience any form of violence against women like they had to and still do to this day. We would like to thank every single person involved in getting the day up and running, but a big special mention to Cass Hackett for her tireless work in making the day happen, and also to her side kick Aunty Helen. We as a club we should be so proud to be standing as one to stamp out any form of violence against women.

The netball kicks off at 7.45am for our baby doves and the reserves football at 12.20pm. The clubrooms are also opened to 12pm, so be assured to stay around. Go doves #doveylove

This week our U19’s side had to unfortunately forfeit their match. We 100% as a club stand by Nanga Wilson who over the past few months has done an amazing job at staying positive, continuing to develop and mentor the boys despite struggling with numbers. We appreciate all his hard work and can’t wait to see the boys take the track in a few weeks’ time after the bye. The reserves secured another good win against Pakenham. Jake, Ricky, Dylan and Marlis all played well from our U19’s which shows the exciting future that our club holds. Marvin, Ash Scott and Travy D all continued their great form in the middle. Well done boys and looking forward to this week’s match against Hampton Park. Our seniors had a nice 29 point victory over Pakenham. Again the Hendy boys dominated the forward line with Ryan booting 5 and Kyle 3 for the match which contributed enormously in our victory. Will Smith, Charlie O’Neill and Nick Battle all providing impressive performances across the whole 4 quarters of the match. It was great to have a victory for the 2nd week in a row, now to secure 3 on the trot against Hampton Park this weekend. Keep up the great work boys! This weekend we welcome Hampton Park to our home which will be a great display of both Football and Netball.

Last weekend after an extremely chilly start to the day the weather turned on an absolute delight for local football to be played under. The young redbacks are finding the back end of the season extremely tough with injuries reducing numbers on the training track as well as game day availability. Once again a big thanks to all those filling in to make up the numbers for the Reserves.

We would like to thank all the volunteers at the club whom without your assistance we would not be able to keep the doors open. From crew on the gate during the day, timekeepers, trainers, water carriers, runners, bar staff, canteen helpers, bbq boys, team managers, set up crew. Thank you all for your assistance.

Saturday games were both tough with the Reserves hanging in and fighting game out to the end. Better players on the day; N Dawes, B Jaffer-Williams, M Ziegeler, J Thomas, J Thurwood. The seniors were completely outplayed by Beaconsfield in the first half. The third quarter the boys played there best football for the day and restricted Beaconsfield to 4 goals and we only played a 26 min quarter which would be the first time this season a quarter has not gone over 30 minutes. Unfortunately the boys could not sustain it in final quarter and Beaconsfield had a comfortable victory. Better players on the day; R Smart, N Carver, J Philpin, A Hepburn, N Williams, H Brough. This week we take on traditional rivals Doveton. Social. Remember to purchase your tickets for the mid year ball to be held on 22nd July, will be a great night. Tickets are $ 75-00 each, see Maddi at club to purchase or pay direct to bank account. Thank You

What a great day we had out at Casey Fields. The under 19s got us off on a great start with a last minute goal from Macca giving us a 1 point win. Its time the boys realise they have the team to mix it with the best this year. Self belief is everything The seconds were next up and though did not kick too accurately were able to notch up a comfortable win. The seniors first half was a real battle with plenty of hard hitting,

tackles and goals from errors. Both teams not prepared to budge an inch. The second half was completely different with Berwick breaking the game open, albeit with 5 behinds before the goals started coming. The last quarter was exceptional outscoring Cranbourne into the wind. Great day for the Wickers with 3 from 3 Special Effort was held on Sunday and well done to Binnsy who took home the chocolates.

Narre Warren had a hard fought victory over Officer . it was great to see Joel Zietsman , Jack Toner & Jessie Davies playing their first senior games and all handled themselves well. Ryan Quirk & Tom Miller both had strong games and Scanners finished off well up forward with 4 goals.

Solid games from Michael Milo , Andy Vella , Jack Soz , Ben king , Dale Gawley & Rhys Dempster, all players contributing to an enjoyable day.

Narre Warren Reserves vs Officer

Our Development side headed to Tooradin for this week’s clash. While Tooradin hadn’t got the results they wanted this season, we knew they were improving and this was going to be a danger game. It cold dewy conditions the game started well for Narre as we took a 10 point lead in the first change. That was the biggest lead any side would have throughout the match as Tooradin clawed back into the contest. It became goal for goal for close to 3 quarters as the lead changed hands several times. However at the final siren it was Tooradin in front, winning by 3 points.

With quite a few Senior players returning from injuries , our team was very strong.

Slightly disappointing our group wasn’t able to get over the line and press as one of the better sides in Division 2.

3 kick goals from start of game , officer replied with 2 goals quickly , 5 goals in 1st Qtr & 11 goals in 2nd half lead us to a big victory with some exciting football played.

Young defender Lochie Baker tried hard all game and was our best with help from Brandon Hogan and Mark Bartuccio. Brodie Jamison and Kyle Contencin chipped in with 2 goals each.

This week we travel to Berwick and we get the opportunity to celebrate Michael Collins 250th senior Game. Collo has been a champion of the Narre warren Football Club with 6 premierships , 8 Best & Fairest and numerous other honours. Widely regarded as Narre’s best ever player the club & the supporters thank Collo for his loyalty and great service over many years.

Last Saturday was a day that is probably better off being forgotten about but is no doubt a day we will learn a lot from in hindsight. Berwick were just way too good. Simple. The 19B’s kicked the ice off the oval against Pakenham and the first half saw a very even contest with a Pakky leading by a couple of goals at half time. By ¾ time, the margin of 15 points hadn’t changed and it appeared we were going to be in for a great finish. However, Pakky steadied better of the two sides and the four goals to none in the final quarter gave Pakky a deserved 36-point win. Best for us were Tom Hodge, Johno Lucas, Brady O’Toole, Tyson Woodall, Harks and Ryley Abaloz. Our Under 19As would’ve walked away from this one wondering how it got away. The guys were simply superb in the 1st half, and more so the 2nd quarter as we led by six goals just prior to ½ time. By ¾ time, it was clear we had stopped dead in our tracks as Berwick held a 2-point lead at the final break keeping us to one point during the 3rd. In a seesawing final quarter that saw us get back out to a 10-point lead, we somehow blew that with only minutes to go to lose on the final kick of the day. We would be pretty sure that Dom will have read the riot act to the boys and hopefully this week’s challenge against Beaconsfield shows that we are capable of bouncing back. Best for the day were Thomas Stiglich, Richo, Rama, Russo, Josh Stewart and Bailey Buntine. Another disappointing day for the twos even though we got off to a great start kicking the first two goals of the game while holding Berwick goalless in the 1st quarter. But that is where our small moment of dominance ended as Berwick limited us to just one goal for the game as they took control of the match. The guys now face a tough ask to hang in for finals in order to defend their title from last year and that must recommence this week against Officer. Best were Ossie, Chace, Holty, Lachie, Fish and Thommo. A Grand Final rematch and a chance to redeem our round 2 loss was what was up for grabs. Sadly, we fell well short of expectations and lost to a Berwick side that is clear flag favourites. Kept scoreless in the first quarter, we really struggled to get back in to the contest even though our 2nd quarter was a lot better outscoring Berwick. After the main break however, all the hard work of the 2nd quarter went to waste as we were well and truly outclassed as we found ourselves down by 46 points at ¾ time. With the game over, all that was left was to restore some pride, which we battled hard to do but by the end of the game, we were well short of the opposition. As footy has it, we get another chance to make amends for last week and we look forward to a better showing this week. Best were Stuey, Micky, Cav, Dill, Yoss and Moz. This week we look forward to hosting Officer SFC in anticipation of a great day of quality football and netball. Events This week we are hosting our first ever “Starlight Foundation” luncheon. Well done to Mel Lindsay and her team of Social Committee members for all their efforts in getting this great cause together. Good luck to all teams today. Go Eagles!!

As we move well into the second half of the season we welcome sponsors, supporters and players to our Round 12 game against Cranbourne. After a good win against Narre Warren “B” and last week’s bye the Under 19’s are looking to put in another strong performance against Cranbourne “B”. With the Under 19’s competition now split into two Divisions, the boys are keen to make an impact and earn a spot in their Divisional finals. The Reserves need to find some pride and commitment or risk being overrun against one of the stronger sides in today’s game. Last week we saw more of what we all know the Seniors are capable of and hopefully the good form will flow through to this weeks game against the

powerful Cranbourne side. With self belief and a commitment to the game plan for the full four quarters the boys are capable of causing a major upset let’s hope today’s the day. In Club social news the Reverse Draw is fast approaching and now is the time to get your tickets. Food and drinks are included and you stand a chance to share in the $10,000 prize money on offer. Tickets at $150 each are available from the players or Committee Members. Also, keep AFL Grand Final eve (the Public Holiday) free. The Club is planning a social event which will be run similarly to a Sportspersons Night. More details in the coming weeks.

This week we return back to our own home ground for our clash against Tooradin. Last week, in the annual White Ribbon Clash against Doveton, the Senior side were competitive against the Doves, before Doveton pulled away in the last quarter and took the four points. Unfortunately for most of the season, Pakenham have been in most matches, before teams pull away late in games. Its been a common theme all year and we need to learn that to win games of football at this standard, that honourable 3 quarters don’t win matches. The Reserves were comprehensively beaten by Doveton and the boys really need to get to the training track and train hard. As the saying goes, you play the way you train and turning up on a

Saturday without doing the necessary work during the week, certainly hinders your performance on a weekend. The under 19s were fantastic in their win against Cranbourne, beating them by 6 goals. With the grading done now in the under 19 competition, it certainly means there is plenty to play for in season 2017. Last Sunday afternoon the club conducted our annual $10,000 Reverse Draw. It’s our major fundraiser for the year and we thank everyone who bought tickets and supported the club. A great day was held by all. Congratulations to Steve O’bryan and Paddy Quinn, who both shared the first prize winnings. Good luck to all teams against Tooradin today. Lets bring home 3 wins.

Well this week we head off to the end of the earth Pakenham ( apparently according to some beach going club’s), not really though, alway’s look forward heading down the highway to play on a great ground. Our senior’s are still trying to work it out, been a frustrating year so far but still time to turn it around boy’s. I suggest you start turning now please. Same as reserve’s. CRANBOURNE 47 DREW BERWICK 47 The SEFNL had its second draw in as many games as Berwick travelled to Cranbourne to take on the fourth placed Eagles. It was a tight contest from the outset as two evenly matched teams took centre court. Cranbourne had the slight edge leading by two goals (12-10). Neither team could break free during the second term, Berwick managed to reduce the margin by one goal before the half as they trailed 25 goals to 24. The introduction of talented young shooter Abuk Kenyang made a huge difference for Berwick, as Kenyang look set to battle the likes of Tara Cecil in defence. The enthralling contest entered the second half with neither team willing to give an inch, with both teams separated by the slightest margin (37-35) with only a quarter to go. The Eagles were unable to substantiate a big enough lead to stop the run of the fast finishing Wickers. Berwick drew alongside Cranbourne with less than a minute to play but either team was able to get the vital goal to go in front as the game finished a draw 47 goals apiece. Berwick recording their second draw in as many weeks as they find themselves just outside the Top 5.

DOVETON 60 DEF PAKENHAM 41 Doveton received a fright from Pakenham who came out and really took it up to The Doves on their home court. Meaghan Winter and Emma Jones set the tone early for the Lions. With one goal separating (12-11) both teams at the first break the win was up for grabs. Chelsea Imansiani took control in the midcourt for the Doves, providing plenty of support to the attack. Rahni Samason and Shae Gee got busy inside the shooters circle for the home side. Samason and Gee delivered as the Doves outscored the Lions 19 - 8 to put them into a comfortable position in the second half. The Lions have improved they just haven’t been able to consistently deliver their best over four quarters. Keely Wright helped support Kate McGowan in Pakenham’s defence but when Doveton are on a roll they’re hard to stop. Doveton continued to make it difficult for Pakenham eclipsing them in

the second half as they ran out deserving winners by 19 goals.

HAMPTON PARK 42 LOST TO BEACONSFIELD 52 Beaconsfield found themselves tested against a Hampton Park side who were set for the big contest. Beacy weren’t at full strength with an ankle injury forcing Britt Tyres to the sidelines, but it provided Coach Simon O’Shannassy to provide young defender Charlotte Petelink her chance to debut. Beaconsfield where in control for most of the contest with seasoned stars Dani Cameron and Jasmine Jones dictated possession. Hampton Park never gave up the fight with Karli Foster making life difficult for Beacy’s attack. Foster had support in defence from the likes of Channing Withere and Brigritta Nemaric standing tall when required. The Redbacks outscored The Eagles in the final term by three goals to reduce the margin to only 10 goals.

NARRE WARREN 58 DEF ROC 31 Narre took control of the contest early establishing a 10 goal lead (15-5) in the first quarter. The Magpies dominance flowed through to the second quarter as they outscored ROC 17 goals to six and led by an insurmountable 21 goals at the half. Narre’s midcourt combination of Britt Mashado and Leigh Taylor ensured the Narre shooters had plenty of supply. To ROC’s credit they didn’t drop their heads and performed amicably in the second half, outscoring Narre 11 goals to nine but were still trailing by 19 goals with a quarter to go. The Magpies welcomed back Tayla Shannan who returned from injury with immediate results. Shannan who has spent a lengthy stint on the sidelines, combined well with Gabby Dwyer. Narre regained control early in the last quarter as they pressed hard against ROC. The Magpies were sublime all over the court and at full flight are hard to stop, finishing the game with a flurry shooting 17 goals to nine in their 27 goal trouncing of ROC at home. Dwyer and Shannon combined for 58 goals in a great performance in front of goal.

DOVETON V HAMPTON PARK Last Time: Round 2 (Good Friday) Hampton Park 31 lost to Doveton 35 This is shaping as the match of the round. It’s a real eight point contest, as the result can go two-ways. A win for Doveton will make it difficult for Hampton Park to push for a finals birth, a win for Hampton Park will see the Redbacks only half a game out of the five. Doveton quickly regained their good form after a disappointing loss to Narre in Round Nine. Doveton have the class across the court to match it with anyone. The Dove Coach Liz Edwards has taken the girls back to getting the basics right and its paying dividends. Doveton could be hampered at the selection tables with a few of their gun players unavailable with VNL commitments. Hampton Park have been a little inconsistent this season, a win, draw and loss from their past three matches sees them just out of the five. The earlier contest between these two sides went right down to the wire, Doveton securing the win by four goals. Hampton Park’s defence will need to get on top early to limit the Doves potent attack. Hampton Park will try and control the midcourt which will go a long way towards the Redbacks getting the win. It’s a tough call to make when choosing a team to win but I think Hampton Park might get a win back away from home. Hampton Park by 4 goals.

BERWICK V NARRE WARREN Last Time: Round 5 Narre Warren 64 def Berwick 45 Berwick have been the bolters this season, their performances of the past six weeks puts them up with the premiership contenders this season. Draws don’t happen very often let alone two weekends in a row, the Wickers pushed Hampton Park and Cranbourne to the brink but were unable to come up with an extra goal to get the win. Narre Warren are on a six game winning streak and re-confirmed themselves as a genuine premiership threat. The Magpies have a healthy percentage and are sitting one game off top spot, just waiting for a slip from Beacy or Tooradin. Berwick will be in for the fight for long periods in the match, but just lack the experience of their fierce opposition. 21 goals separated both teams earlier in the season but with Berwick’s improvement it’s hard to see the margin drift beyond double figures. Both teams

may not be at full strength due to their star players not being available but Narre’s depth can never be questioned with opportunities being made available for their talented junior brigade. Narre by 13 points

CRANBOURNE V OFFICER Last Time: Round 6 ROC 37 lost to Cranbourne 55 Cranbourne had the chance to secure their position within the top-five before drawing in a thriller against Berwick last week. Cranbourne have a rock solid seven, their defence would rival any in the league. The Eagles lockdown defence is where they look to take control of the match. Cranbourne will be looking to dictate terms early against the experienced ROC outfit. ROC after starting the season in fine fashion have struggled to put together a four quarter performance. The Kangaroos started to find the net more often and their third win of the season didn’t feel too far away until their comprehensive loss at the hands of Narre last week. It’s a must-win for the Eagles to keep the gap between them and sixth, it’s going to be a close finish to the season in terms of ladder position and The Eagles can’t afford to drop a match they’re expected to win. Cranbourne by 9 goals.

PAKENHAM V TOORADIN Last Time: Round 1 Tooradin 68 def Pakenham 23 Tooradin lost their first match of the season before their bye. Kelly Andrews has had the week off to re-asses and get the girls prepared for their run to the finals. VNL commitments can provide headaches at the selection table and The Seagulls may not be at their best due to player availability this weekend. The Seagulls will have the depth ready to step into the A Grade line-up when required but it might take a little bit for the girls to gel which can open the opportunity for Pakenham. The Lions have improved and have been grinding out their matches but just falling short this season. Pakenham will have their work cut-out for them again this week in a top versus bottom match up. The margin was 45 goals in their first encounter but Pakenham have definitely improved since the earlier parts of the season. How far they have improved will be reflected on the scoreboard at the end of the match. Tooradin by 17 goals.

berwick consistency within the team. This week was yet another nail biter for them, to and frowing with the scoreboard, unfortunately these ladies went down by yet another goal. The scoreboard may show a loss, but the spirit and determination of these girls is more of a win than any numerical figure.

As we made our way to Cranbourne in the cold and frosty weather, our teams were not deterred from the task at hand of hopefully securing some good wins on the board. Our 13’s & 15’s kicked off the day to a great start, all coming away with the win & 4 points. These sides are jumping from strength to strength each week!

B Grade - 40-41

The results were as follows;

A Grade came out against Cranbourne and once again proved their critics prediction wrong. A prediction of the Wickers going down by 7 goals to the Eagles was far off, with the team providing some incredible passages of play, again with some too’ing and frowing on the scoreboard, and the match ending up in a draw 47-47. After 3 tight games in the past three weeks, this young determined group have something to show for themselves and we can’t wait for the hard work to continue to pay off this week against Narre.

13 Red - 34 - 22 13 Whites - 27 -8 15 Red - 30- 24 15 White - 26-25 The 17’ Red and White couldn’t quite maintain the momentum and get across the line this week, with the Whites game going down to the last ten seconds in a nail biting finish! Both these teams will be keen to bounce back against Narre next round and regain their form.

As always we would like to thank our sponsors for being a part of our 2017 journey.w

17 Red - 20-34 17 White - 21-22 C & D Grade, both had some terrific passages of play, that unfortunately didn’t assist in getting them over the line. The new combinations of our Senior group are only just finding their feet come this second half of the season, all the while coming up versing clubs that have had these girls and line ups developing for numerous seasons. The growth and rebuild is getting there, slowly but all the while steadily. C grade - 20-39 D grade - 17-42 B Grade are certainly proving to be gathering the troops and getting some

Narre Warren hosted ROC last Saturday at Kalora Park on a sunny winter’s day. Hats off to our early bird volunteers who set up the courts for a big day of netball while the temperature was -1 degree. Thank you to everyone who came along to our 2017 VIP Afternoon. The support we receive from our sponsors is much appreciated! Special thank you to Glenn Stow who was our guest speaker for White Ribbon round A NW 58 def ROC 31 BOC: Erin, Tayla & Tracey Continuing their charge towards September, A Grade welcomed back Tayla, who provided calmness and stability in the goal circle. Steady from the outset, the team continued to build their lead while rotating fresh legs across the court.

The 13 White game was very exciting with our girls hanging on for a two goal victory against a competitive ROC side. A SUPER 17 goal turnaround from the first game of the season. This week we are off to Berwick where we will be in for ten tough netball matches against the Berwick juniors and much improved senior sides. Then it will be time to swap the runners for heels for our annual Black & White Ball. Thank you to the players and families who have supported this event.

A blistering first quarter set up a convincing victory for B Grade. A season high 21 goals were piled on in the first term with focussed drives and a direct path to goal.

It was great to welcome Hayley back from her knee injury. 17R NW 52 def ROC 30 BOC: Tamika & Tayla Prepared for a tough battle, the 17 Red girls began strongly and implemented their training. They continue to push themselves each week to rise to each challenge. 17W NW 34 def ROC 25 BOC: BOC: Amy & Amy Well done to Amy H and Amy B who stepped up to cover the missing defenders for the 17 W side. With each quarter the girls stretched the margin to gain a handy four points. 15R NW 29 lost to ROC 31 BOC: Ruby, Lauren, Amy & Amy A goal for goal nail biter, with both sides very determined to secure the four points. ROC got over the line at the final whistle to secure the win. These two sides are bound to meet again in September where we hope to turn the result around. 15W NW 17 lost to ROC 34 BOC: Hayley, Alicia & Jessie 15 White came up against a strong ROC side and just couldn’t match it with them despite their best efforts. 13R NW 24 lot to ROC 48 BOC: Annie, Lainie & Roshelle Our 13 Red battled hard against a tough, well drilled ROC side in a high scoring game. 13W NW 19 def ROC 17

We hosted Berwick last week on another freezing cold morning with all of the Casey Fields grounds icy and white. The sun was out and there was no wind at the start of the day for our junior teams. 13 White played a good game. There were some great turnovers and wonderful goals but a little drop of focus let Berwick get ahead and come away with the win. Always great team spirit from our youngest players. 13 Red. Great first quarter by the girls with the scores even to start. Berwick gradually pulled away as the game progressed. They gave it their all and played their hearts out, but fell short of the win.

The full court pressure by our C grade side was outstanding and resulted in many turn overs. Every player was focused and played with high intensity. A 19 goal win with smiles all round. A well deserved win for B grade. The commitment to the ball, drives and decision making really paid off. In a thrilling last minute they pull together as a team a took out the game by 1 goal. As always both A grade sides displayed some fantastic netball. Fast paced game and some amazing skills. Neither team strong enough to run over the other. The result was a draw. Thank you to the ongoing support from our sponsors:

15 White. An intense and thrilling game for the team. Very exciting last few minutes with only a goal in it. Unfortunately we didn’t get the win.

Yo-Get-It

15 Red. An awesome 4 quarters by the team. They put all their hard work into play and showed wonderful teamwork. A close game and we were unlucky not to get the win.

17 White. Another close game with an exciting last minute. A very lucky one goal win for the team. The girls scrambling to the final whistle.

17 Red. A solid 14 goal win. Defence end getting stronger each week, talented mid-court running hard all game and strong finishing from the goalers. As the wind kicked up the seniors went on to the court fired up and ready to go‌ An awesome 25 goal win for D grade. A 13 goal lead at quarter time set the pace for game and gave the coach the opportunity to try a couple of different combination. All players adapted and a great effort all round.

It was a tough day at the office however we expected nothing less from Narre this week. We came out with determination and settled a lot quicker than in previous weeks. This week our combination was boosted by the return of Crystal after many weeks due to injury, wedding and honeymoon.. it is good to see you back on court. Keely, Hannah, Alex and Sez- your mid court action and support was fantastic and each week will just get better and better.

We are not the tallest team however we have big heart and determined to be there in the mix come September‌.. it is up to you ladies to stand and deliver. Net Set Go: Well done to our future ROC stars at Net Set Go , and a big thank you to the wonderful volunteers who give up their time to coach the girls and organise it, a special thanks to Laura Quinn.

To Caity, Crystal and Jacinta- I am so impressed with your determination and maturity. Each week you are pressured and this week was not different, great job. Tayla and Sarah- goalers week in, week out‌. You perform for us. Confidence is growing each week which is great to see.

Coming back this week off another break we travel to Pakenham for another round of great netball. Over the break we have managed to train hard but also fit in some fun with both football and netball teams heading for a bounce at Gravity Zone and some Lazer Tag. What a fantatsic session of fun and fitness of a different kind with many breaking an unexpected sweat! Thank you to all who came along and to Kelly Haynes for organizing the night.

Tonight we head to the Tooradin Sports Club for our annual formal night. This is always a fantastic night and hopefully we can celebrate many wins with a drink and a dance. Thank you to Bridget Cook and Ellie Brooke for organizing the event. Last but not least we congratulate Jayne DaRose on racking up her 50th game for the club this week! Go Seagulls!

Last weekend we welcomed Pakenham to our home ground for our annual White Ribbon Round. U13 Red: Started off slow this week but it didn’t take long to find our rhythm and gain momentum. With one baby dove unwell, you all lifted to support and carry her, showing that teamwork and sportsmanship can also lead to a win! Well done girls, very proud of you all. U15 Red: Wow what a team effort! See what implementing at training does for our game and confidence. I couldn’t fault any of you. Our defenders absolutely smashed it whilst our goalers held their own nicely in the ring. A massive credit to the midcourt girls who work tirelessly week in week out and share the bench without any hesitations. Also a massive well done to Pakenham on a very sportsmanship like game! Bring on Hampton Park at home ladies!!

goalers moved, and our midcourt hustled for every single ball. Now for a tough match this weekend against Hampton Park – we got this ladies! C Grade: Positive vibes before our game installed a positive outcome for our ladies. Right throughout the game the communication and motivation was at a high. The girls came away with a win which boosted their confidence and energy! Well done ladies. This weekend we welcome Hampton Park – which is always a good battle between both clubs! Go Doves!!

Under 15 White: What an impressive game from the girls this week! Some new goaling combinations and a fantastic attitude made for some fantastic netball on display! While we weren’t lucky enough to go away with the win You girls never stopped from the first whistle to the last! Well done girls U17 White: Good game today girls we started of very flat but found our feet in the third quarter . There were some really nice passages of play and some nice team work displayed well done on a goal win. Good luck against Hampton park and also good luck to Keeley Miller who is playing her 200th game for Doveton. This week. Go doves D Grade: Now that’s the win we needed ladies! First quarter was still a little shaky but after that we completely dominated the whole entire game. Our defence end absolutely worked their behinds off for turn over after turn over. Our voice was amazing, our

15s today had a great battle but unfortunately, we didn’t use every opportunity to our advantage. As expected, Beacy put up a great fight each quarter and used every possession wisely giving them the win. Good effort girls. Under 17’s Reds, At the start of the season we all made some rules which outlined many different things but one in particular was to always play 100% and as a team! Many players didn’t do this! End of third quarter I asked as a team who was playing 100% that left us with 5! So those 5 played the game out! This has definitely made the whole team realise that you need to be a team and play as a team to get those points on that score board! Best on Emma Smith D grade wowza after Beacy thrashing us last time we stuck with them from the very start at 3/4 time we were done by 2 and won the last quarter and came away with the draw few more minutes we would have taken the win. Again, very hard to do a best on this week

but am giving it to Kayla your efforts yesterday were endless. Thank you to Layni and Maddi coming up from 17s C grade we showed Beacy we had it in us and could match them 1st half unfortunately when we throw away 25 bad passes was not going to win a game against a tough side. Well done to TJ and Chrissy for coming up. Best on went to Megan. B-grade had a slow start today letting Beaconsfield runaway with a strong lead. Losing Amber and Bel in the second qtr. added to the stress we were experiencing on court. Managing to claw back a drawn 3rd qtr. and winning the last we showed some solid play against one of the top sides. Special mention to Christine for coming on as the only bench we had available and playing fantastic netball. Best on ground Bek A grade unfortunately frustrating times so many injured players out, I really can’t wait to have out team back together, cause when we’re all playing we are unstoppable. Thanks to Khloe and Shan for coming up.
