Welcome to Round 13 of the SEFNL Berwick Motor Group Premiership Season. We are now two-thirds of the way through the season and with final just around the corner the competition is really starting to heat across both football and netball. Can Berwick go all the way with an undefeated season in football, could Narre Warren make it three in a row in netball or will a Tooradin-Dalmore or Beaconsfield reign supreme?! With so many possibilities we cannot wait for the next six weeks and how they will unfold. Finals tenders for hosting have now closed and the venues will be released in the coming weeks. A reminder that the SEFNL Awards Night will be held on Monday 11th September at the Cardinia Cultural
Centre, Pakenham, where we will celebrate the achievements of our players and clubs in SEFNL’s third year. Presentations will include Best and Fairest, Runner-Up Best and Fairest, Most Valuable Player, Championship Club, Leading Goal Kicker, Service Awards, Teams of the Year. Details on where to purchase your tickets will be released in the coming weeks. We look forward to another exciting week of football and netball who knows what results will come from this round, but we will just have to wait and see! Further themed rounds coming up: Round 15: 29th July – Multicultural Round SEFNL Finals Series: August 26th – September 16th That’s all from the SEFNL Desk this week, best of luck to all clubs over the weekend.

The Dandenong Southern Stingrays have survived a gallant three quarter effort before kicking five unanswered goals in the last quarter to hold onto a 23-point victory at Rams Arena on Saturday morning. After leading all day, due in part to the Stingrays poor kicking at goal, the Cannons couldn’t hold on and were completely dominated in the last quarter, with final scores, 10.18 (78) to 8.7 (55). Dandenong lifted their intensity around the ground, with Lachlan McDonnell managing to get some run through the middle allowing deeper entries giving Alex Young his first goal gifting the Stingrays the lead, which were followed by four others in 9 minutes. Both teams were keen to get physical early, with a great contest and testing the depth of their list with 26 seventeen year olds getting their chance to taste TAC Cup football. Stingrays coach on the day, Nick Cox was pleased with the end result. “We knew that Calder were going to challenge us, but luckily we adjusted to the tempo of the game and we were good enough to hold on.” Cox had a lot of praise to dish out for his men – particularly noteworthy were defender Will Hamill, collecting numerous disposals and five rebounds whilst key defender Jesse Davies and Angus Paterson, who stood tall in the face of an attacking Cannons forward line. Through the middle, Jai Taylor gave one of his best performances, never relenting in his hard-bodied attack on the footy, and ball magnets Mitch Cotter and Ali Zijai again shone. In attack, Jamie Plumridge took his chances and continued his streak of great performances across half-forward, while Alex Young’s pressure in and around the contests was a highlight for many. Calder started the game, kicking the first three goals of the game, before Riley Darcy kicked the one and only goal for the Stingrays in the first quarter.
The Stingrays again burst out of the blocks at the beginning of the third quarter kicking the first goal against the breeze through Bailey Schmidt, but wayward kicking hindered their progress – and their opponents were not afraid to let them know about it, with Calder adding 3 majors in a row. To their credit, however, the Rays managed to rise and apply more pressure on the Cannons, forcing them to kick backwards and retreat on several occasions, conceding a goal through Riley Bowman. A late goal in the dying minutes in the third term to Calder allowed them to take a 9-point lead into the last break. The Stingrays were told to come out firing with nothing to lose – a prediction that, unfortunately for the shell-shocked Cannons, came true. Dandenong were playing on at every opportunity, taking plenty of risks, and reaped the rewards, slamming on five goals through the willingness of the Stingray midfielders to take the game on with a bit of run that got them over the line in the end. With another scalp under their belt, the Stingrays now hold onto 5th spot on the TAC Cup ladder, leading into their return clash with the Northern Knights who stole the game from the Stingrays in the last 2 minutes of play earlier this year. The game will be hosted at Shepley Oval on Saturday from 10.30am with both clubs having a full list to choose from with school holidays and the conclusion of the AFL NAB U18 Championships. Craig Black takes back the reigns from assistant Nick Cox week, who has impressed over the past 3 games as the senior coach. “It’s all about furthering our development, not just the players, but the coaching staff as well,” Stingrays talent manager Mark Wheeler said. “Craig had the opportunity to watch the game and individual players a little more, plus support Nick and the other assistant coaches for their development…with Nick taking training and setting the game day structure
The ever-present winds made it difficult to hit targets however, and a couple of chances in front of goal went begging. Nonetheless, the Cannons motored to a comfortable 19-point lead at the first break, pleased with their efforts.
while Craig was able to spend more time watching vision with individual players ”
Never a team to lay down though, the Stingrays took their game up a notch as the second term began, and suddenly it was the Cannon’s on the back foot.
Dandenong Stingrays Calder Cannons
The Stingrays slotted two majors in quick succession through Jamie Plumridge, gaining some momentum and really driving through the centre corridor, but too many shots went wayward as they went in to the big break trailing by 1 point (28 to 27).

Vic Country vs VAFA The WorkSafe AFL Vic Country side has fallen short in the 2017 Brian Molony Cup against the VAFA after going down by 82 points at Frankston Oval on Saturday.
It was a different story for Vic Country in the Under 19 Challenge Cup with the Energy Safe Under 19 squad defeating VAFA by four points.
The Vic Country side were unable to contain the extreme running ability of their metro rivals and were outclassed around the ball, leading to a comfortable 24.8 (152) to 10.10 (70) score line.
In wet and greasy conditions at Frankston Oval, the very best young talent from country Victoria held off a fast finishing VAFA outfit in what was an outstanding display of skill and class from both sides. The final score: 9.13 (67) to 9.9 (63).
Rochester Football Club’s Steven Stroobants finished with four goals for Vic Country while teammate Chris Moreland kicked two in what was a tough day at the office for the country side. Captain Jack Geary lead from the front all day while North Shore’s Jason Davenport was sensational in a best on ground performance for Vic Country but was overshadowed by a very challenging VAFA outfit. In his first game as head coach, Danny Frawley said he was proud of how his boys played but recognised that the VAFA side was better on the day. “You could see that the VAFA really came in with a plan and executed it perfectly,” he said. “Our guys had a dip but there is no way we can polish it up, they were far too good. “We’ve got two years to lick our wounds and do a fair bit of training but we’ll be back better and stronger than ever.”
A goal from St. Joeseph’s Jackson McLachlan half-way through the last-term gave the Vic Country side a comfortable 29-point lead before an onslaught led by VAFA sharpshooter Alessandro Mastromanno brought his side back to almost pip the country side on the siren. Karingal’s Jake Kelly was extraordinary up forward, booting two while having an incredible presence in the forward half, while Shepparton’s Luke Smith popped up for two of his own to help starve off a gallant VAFA side. Vic Country captain Shaun Mannagh electrified the midfield in a best on ground performance while Shaun Downie, Matthew LaFontaine and Jack Blood were solid contributors for Vic Country’s fourth consecutive Under 19 Challenge Cup win. Pink’s Never Been So Sexy... Once a colour associated with femininity, pink now identifies with the heart wrenching struggles of breast cancer. It’s never been such a manly colour. Just a couple of decades ago the sight of a man in pink would’ve sparked national outrage. How times have changed… It’s a colour that represents caring, compassion and love. It stands for unconditional love and understanding and associated with the giving and receiving of care. This “soft” colour is now donned by rough and tough men all over the country in a united stand to fight for those we love. Those who’ve nurtured and guided us into the people we are today. 1 in 8. A daunting stat. That’s the number of women who develop breast cancer in their lifetime in Australia. That’s a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an aunt, a wife, a girlfriend, a daughter a niece or a friend. That’s more than 8 women just there. Many people will have seen the pain that breast cancer causes; the heartbreak for everyone involved. But women are fighters. The colour pink’s made up of a combination of red and white. Both colours and shades with appropriate characteristics. Red resembles the lust for action, the tough fight. And the white, the opportunity to succeed and learn. And that’s what we can do. Men, women, everyone. We can stand up and fight. And learn. And try everything we can to succeed.
Sometimes the simplest of gestures can be the most powerful. The sight of hardened football bodies crashing and bashing in pink socks or a pink strip knowing that there’s something bigger out there that means more. And that’s exactly what footballers and umpires around the league will be doing this weekend…Raising awareness and their little bit to make a difference. So just remember…Pink is sexy on anyone. But never more so than now… Get Involved SUA are always on the lookout for those crazy individuals who want to become umpires. It takes a certain type of person to want to umpire, but those people who take the brave step, often benefit greatly from all umpiring offers. If you love the game and you want to keep fit, learn life skills, meet new friends and earn some money then umpiring is for you. DOVETON 38.29.257 DEF HAMPTON PARK 3.1.19 Hampton Park ventured to AJ Robinson Oval under pressure to perform after a disappointing few weeks. The Redbacks outscored their past fortnight in one quarter scoring 3.1 but they also conceded 10 goals and were down by 46 points at the first change. Doveton’s grunt and outside run started to take control of the match. Nick Battle’s rich vein of form continued as he combined with Rus Gabriel to assume control of the midfield. The second and third quarters where all Doveton. The Doves kicked 16.17 to only 1 point as The Redbacks trailed by 158 points at three quarter time. Shannon Henwood relished the opportunity up forward combining with spearhead Taylor Joyce for 17 goals in a phenomenal performance up forward. Doveton didn’t slow up in the last quarter and really drove the sword into the heart of The Redbacks. To Hampton Park’s credit they did score three last quarter goals but Doveton piled on another 12 goals to push their score beyond 250 points. The Doves had 12 individual goal kickers eight of those kicked multiple goals in a one sided performance. Battle and Gabriel were the better players for the home side, Zappa and Nick Williams booted two for the visitors in their best performances for the club.
CRANBOURNE 21.14.160 DEF OFFICER 7.1.43 Cranbourne had points to prove going into the contest after a disappointing loss to Berwick in the previous round. Cranbourne kicked five goals to two and established a 24 point quarter time lead. The second quarter was tighter contest just when it looked like The Eagles were taking control the Kangaroos hit back. With Cranbourne captain Marc Holt still sidelined The Eagles had to look at alternate options inside forward 50. Luke Bee-Hugo was having a day out. The dynamic midfielder drifted forward to combine well with other small forwards Ryan Jones and Khaled Kandakji. With a lead of five goals The Eagles went to work in the third quarter. Michael Boland has been in fantastic form again this season, his contest again Dylan Chapman was worth the admission price. Cranbourne kicked six goals to two and extend their 57 points. With the result in the bag, Cranbourne didn’t let up in the last quarter. Bee-Hugo finished the game with a season-high six goals, combining with Kandakji and Jones for 13 goals in the Eagles impressive 97 point win at home.
PAKENHAM 4.7.31 LOST TO TOORADIN 10.5.65 Pakenham welcomed Tooradin in a return bout at Tommuc Reserve, fierce tight contest during the first quarter. Inaccurate kicking became costly for the Lions as they had more scoring shots then the Seagulls but were still trialling by four points at the first break. Tooradin settled down in the second quarter as they started to win the important one-on-one battles which reflected quickly on the scoreboard as the visitors extended their lead 29 points at the main break. The third quarter was an even contest as neither team could gather the momentum. The Seagulls second goal for the third term put out any chance of a huge comeback from the Lions. As teams tired in the later part of the match, the game became more physical. Both teams faded but Pakenham couldn’t themselves back into the contest on the scoreboard. Nick Lang booted three goals for the visitors as they ran out victors by 34 points.
BERWICK 14.13.97 DEF NARRE WARREN 7.6.48 The match of the round didn’t live up to all the expectations pre-game. The undefeated Berwick side was the back foot early as Dale Gawley kicked the first goal for the visitors. Then The Wickers booted seven of the next nine goals to assume control of the contest. Narre simply didn’t have an answer to Berwick’s unrelenting run and carry and pressure on the ball carrier when not in control. Berwick amassed 16 scoring shots to five in the first half and led by 31 points at the main change. When Narre had the footy, it became scrappy as the Magpies struggled to break through the rolling press adopted by Berwick. The Wickers capitalised on turnovers and created scoring opportunities on the rebound. Bryce Rutherford once again was at his dominating best, allowed to roam free it felt Rutherford brought his own footy to Edwin Flack. A five goal to one third quarter from Berwick had Narre on toast. The Magpies had no answer to Berwick’s dominance. Narre tried to fight back in the last quarter, three goals added some respectability to the score line as the damage was already done. Narre won the last quarter but lost again to a top-five team away from home going down by 49 points

BEACONSFIELD (3RD 7-3) V NARRE WARREN (5TH 6-4)
HAMPTON PARK (9TH 0-11) V CRANBOURNE (2ND 9-2)
Last Time – Round 3 Narre Warren 9.11.65 lost to Beaconsfield 13.13.91
Last Time – Round 1 Cranbourne 33.17.215 def Hampton Park 5.1.31
Beaconsfield welcome Narre Warren in what is shaping up as a huge contest for the Magpies. If the Magpies lose another match they could be on the brink of missing finals. The situation is unlikely, but Narre find themselves in an unfamiliar position with their position in the five on a tentative edge. Narre scrapped through against Officer and then were very disappointing against Berwick last week. Beacy come into the contest against their fierce rival, sitting a game clear in third and riding a three game winning streak. The Eagles are back playing their best brand of footy since they won the premiership in 2014. Beacy have brought a hard-nosed defensive style of play to their game and its reaping benefits, their defence is the number 1 ranked side in the competition. The Eagles are conceding less than 45 points per a game. Beaconsfield can’t take this game lightly and will be looking to inflict their second win of the season against their nemesis. Narre are a shadow of their former selves which saw them dominate everyone and leaving them in ore in their wake. The bruising uncompromising brand of football seems long gone, can coach Heath Black stoke the fire and see the boys in black and white come out full of vigour and venom. If there is no bite this week, are Narre just making up the numbers this season? Beaconsfield by 22 points
What can you write which hasn’t been written before about the situation Hampton Park find themselves in. The Redbacks managed to turn it around slightly kicking their biggest score since Round 7 unfortunately for them they still conceded over 30 goals and went down by over 200 points for the third time this season. This week won’t be any easier for the home side as they try their hardest to earn some respect from the competition after a maligned few seasons, it’s been a tough road since their last finals appearance in 2011. Cranbourne produced a strong second-half last week at home against Officer, which would have restored some confidence in the ranks a disappointing loss to the premiership favourite in Berwick. With the prospect of divisional football on the horizon and with both teams at different end of the local spectrum it might be a while before we see these old foes do battle again. Marc Holt could be a chance to return after sustaining a quad injury which has kept him sidelined for nearly a month. Full Forwards have had a feast against the inexperienced Hampton Park defence, can Holt return and kick a bag? Modern day football is won in the midfield and whichever team can dominate the middle generally wins the battle. Hampton Park have a group of young warriors who will try their hardest to make it a difficult day for Cranbourne. The Eagles have an even spread of contributors and Coach Simon Goosey can move the magnets to rejuvenate his playing stocks if required. As a passionate football follower, we want two things to happen, Hampton Park kick more than five goals and loose by less than 200 points. The result is nearly certainty but by how far Cranbourne win would be the question? Cranbourne by 142 points
OFFICER (7TH 3-8) V TOORADIN (6TH 4-6) Last Time – Round 5 Tooradin 8.11.59 lost to Officer 9.10.64 As we get to the business end of the season these games become vital for teams on the brink of a top 5 birth. Officer and Tooradin have been the improvers this season, after some strong off-season moves. Officer were starting to look like a finals contender before injuries at the wrong time has cruelled their momentum during the middle part of their season. Tooradin on the other hand have experienced a rollercoaster of a season with many highs and lows. This is The Seagulls biggest match of the season, a win here at Starling Rd, will keep their faint final chances alive. If results fall their way they will be one game out of the top 5 and a chance of playing their first senior finals since 2012. Officer have been impressive for patches during the season, they were really competitive against Narre Warren two-weeks ago, before a second half fadeout saw them go down by nearly 100 points last week. At their best, Officer would nearly be favourites to get the win but they’re a couple of soldiers down from their best 22 which provides Tooradin with an opportunity to get the important win. Last time they played on five points separated them at Westernport Oval. Tooradin has stocked their playing list since then and are play a far more competitive brand of football which has restored life into their season. On paper it appears Tooradin has a lot more riding on their result and need to ensure they secure the four points, Officer will be just as desperate to get the win at home. These opportunities for a win don’t always present themselves for teams outside the five, but I think Tooradin is travelling the touch better and should win by 11 points.
PAKENHAM (8TH 1-10) V BERWICK (1ST 11-0) Last Time – Round 6 Berwick 12.19.91 def Pakenham 10.5.65 The Lions were gallant in their Round Six encounter, pushing the premiership favourites for three quarters, at times it seemed a massive upset was on the cards. Berwick got away with an impressive final term and put away a resilient Pakenham outfit. Fast forward nearly two-months as these two combatants meet again this time at Toomuc Reserve. It’s quite easy to write off Pakenham’s chances again this week and write about how good Berwick are going, after defeating Cranbourne and Narre Warren comprehensively in consecutive weekends. The undefeated Wickers have all but sown up the minor premiership with six weeks to go. Pakenham have shown plenty of heart in recent weeks, with their backs to the wall and a young group representing the den, the Lions haven’t taken a backwards step under first year Coach Ash Green. I’m sure to their faithful they would love to see a few more wins in the win column but they must be impressed by their endeavour and never say die attitude. Green seems to have the young kids working together and feeding off the experienced Lions still in the pack. Berwick should account for Pakenham quite easily in the end but they should expect a fight especially in the early stages of the contest when the Lions have played their best footy. Jake Smith will provide plenty of run off the half-back flank, while Sam Blackwood has grown into one of the best defenders in the competition. The Lions would have to play out of their skins to cause the biggest upset of the season. Berwick to win by 48 points

Round 12 Footy Review Narre travelled to Berwick with “onekick” results in the two curtain raisers – a three-point win for Narre in the Ressies, and a nail-biting two-point loss for our Under 19A. Narre’s Under 19 B had a bye. Seniors – Narre’s Ones took an inexperienced combination into the game in a bid for extra pace to counter the run of the competition benchmark. Berwick’s drum tight defence stifled many of Narre’s attacking plays and found us five goals down at halftime. Narre had few four quarter contributors in a lack-lustre performance and Berwick ran out winners by eight goals. A disappointing result for the big occasion of Michael Collins’ 250th however we do appreciate the Berwick players lining up post game and the club donating the match ball to Collo – thank you. Trent Papworth was tireless in the ruck; Aaron Wilson, Michael Collins and Josh Tonna battled hard. Nick Scanlon kicked 2.
Reserves - Narre’s Twos repeated history – replicating the result from the last time we played Berwick in Round 5 earlier in the season. Another low scoring affair – just three goals kicked by each team; and another 3-point win to Narre. It was defensive, it was not always pretty, but these teams know how to lock down on each other and not give an inch. Sammy McLean was outstanding in defence and we got plenty of run and carry from Matt Soz. In a gripping last quarter all 22 Magpies worked together and held on for a famous victory. Special mentions to Corie Intveen, Mitch Dempster, Mickey Milo and Benny King on their solid performances. Under 19 A – Narre’s Under 19A led by a couple of kicks throughout the first half in a high quality game featuring long goals and high marking. Berwick kept pressing and, in a red-hot last quarter, just got their noses in front late in the game to steal the win. For Narre, Brayden Sharp was quick and creative around goals and kicked three of his own. Max Sheppard (2 goals), Jake Stuart, Mark Bartuccio and Tommy Toner were also among our best.

Welcome everyone to our Round 13 home game against Tooradin. In our Round 5 game against Tooradin our boys came from almost five goals down to steal the game in the dying minutes and our visitors today will no doubt want revenge. We’re looking forward to a hard and close match today - best of luck to both teams. A special welcome today to our sponsors and Life Members who are here for the annual Sponsors and Life Members lunch. The lunch will begin an 12 sharp and conclude in time to watch the senior game. We have a couple of speakers lined up including an update from Gareth Sheean on the latest developments in relation to the establishment of new Social Rooms. We hope all our Sponsors and Life Members enjoy the day and can stick around for the main game. Catering for the day is by our loyal sponsors D’Angelo’s Winery.
Last week’s games at Cranbourne, with the exception of the U19’s, were again disappointing. The Under 19’s won in a scrappy and untidy game against Cranbourne “B” but the Reserves lost their match by a few goals after putting up a much improved showing. The Seniors, depleted by injuries, put up a reasonable display and were down by less that three goals early in the third quarter before capitulating against a faster, stronger and smarter Cranbourne team. Coach Doug Koop, in his after match address, questioned the passion of some of his players and asked them to take more pride in their performances. Another reminder of the AFL Grand Final Eve sportsmans afternoon to be held at the Social Rooms from noon to 5pm on the Friday before the AFL GF (the Public Holiday). Confirmed guests include Danny Frawley and Rodney Hogg. We’ll have more details as the day gets closer.

Last week’s game’s against Pakenham in very ordinary condition’s was a real confidence builder for the boy’s, the two’s played some outstanding football, getting some really great ball movement now and just taking it on, good luck this week against Officer. Was great to get one of our under 19s boy’s up into the senior’s last week with Jake Cronin, he really had a go and enjoyed every minute of the day, well done Jake. Under 19s were very competitive for 4 quarter’s only getting beaten by 50 point’s. There last outing against Paky was 100 so well done boy’s your improving all the time, just keep going lad’s. Our girl’s are still tracking well and we would like to thank the girl’s for putting together the formal on Saturday night was a great success, thank’s girl’s and good luck this week. I’d like to thank all our sponsor’s and please could we get behind and support all of those that support our us. Cheers. Have a great weekend this week all, enjoy let’s get another win.

Last weekend we ventured out to Doveton, due to a spate of injuries 15, plus player unavailability 6 for the first time in memory we were unable to field a reserves side. It was a long wait till the seniors hit the field. You cannot fault the effort the boys put in on the ground, at the moment the fact is we are undermanned and undersized for the task at hand. Pleasing to see the scoreboard tick over with a few more goals this week, the boys fought it out kicking 3 goals in final term to take our score to 6.3 which is highest score we have had for a while. Better players on the day Z Jenkins, R Smart, N Williams, J Ashwood, J Philpin & J Mahy.
• $40 for dinner only. Limited tickets available, be quick. • Presentation by Mindfull will be open to everybody – may be standing room. The day will kick off around 2:00 with the game starting at 3:00. Bar will be open. Entry is a gold coin donation or $5 per car with all proceeds going to Mindfull to help fund future projects. 300 Club Function/Sponsor Day Today we hold our second 300 club/sponsor function with a 12:30 start. Justin Leppitsch is our guest speaker at 1pm. There will be an auction of some memorabilia afterwards. Beer, wine, softdrinks and food provided, food served around 1:30pm. HPJFC Legends Game Sunday 16th. On Sunday 16th July we are holding our second ever “Legends Game” for past players of the Hampton Park Junior Footy Club. This year the game will be in honour of our mate, Shaun Ross (Tossa) who lost his battle with mental illness in November last year. Along with our partner organisation, Mindfull, we aim to raise the profile and remove the stigma of mental illness. At the completion of the game, we will host a dinner and Matt Runnalls, founder of Minfull, will speak on the subject of mental illness and suicide prevention. It should be a great day with a bit of fun, reflection and an important message behind it. Tickets are: • $70 for players –this gets you your jumper, socks and dinner / presentation.

Last Saturday we hosted Officer (Beacy in the 19As) at home with a solid showing from our seniors and reserves. The 19B’s the day off against Officer. After a slow start the boys got back in to the game with a solid second half. Kicking only 1.0 to half time meant the guys had to work hard to push the opposition and in the end to only go down by 15 points was a fantastic effort considering the difference in the first half. This side is playing pretty good footy in patches and when they string it together for a whole game, anything will be possible as we have seen at various times this year. Best for us were Hodgey, Tys Woodall, Dish, Jye Clarke, Johno Lucas and BOT. This week the B’s have a bye. Our Under 19As have let the past few games slip and needed to get back on to the winners list to resurrect their season. Again we were slow out of the blocks and we can’t afford to be doing that against quality opposition. Beacy’s quality throughout proved the difference for the whole game and while we were still in it at half time, we just couldn’t maintain our pressure and eventually fell short by 23 points. Best for the day were Thomas Stiglich, Richo, Rama, Jake, Haz and Cal. The twos got back on to the winners list this weekend with a solid win against Officer by 42 points. After losing co-captain Leigh Holt with another torn bicep injury, the guys rallied under stand-in skipper Jordan Leinmueller and played as we know they can. With the introduction of a couple of unders players in Brendan Purcell and Harkireth Calais, who more than played their part, the guys found enjoyment in their footy again, something which was the difference that to them to a flag in 2016. Hopefully now with their mojo back they can return to their consistent ways of playing as we know they can. Best were Chaz, Koey, Brendan Purcell, Harks, Roscoe and Millsy. After the reality check of last week, it was going to be interesting to see how our side responded to the lesson dished out by Berwick. And right from the outset, the boys showed they were ready to put last week’s aberration behind them and get back to enjoying their footy. While we weren’t clinical throughout the entire game, the match was always in control. We had spurts of greatness; and moments whereby we let the opposition back in. By the end we had run riot coming away with a 97-point win in what we hope is a sign of things to come. Best were Avatar (including kicking 6 goals), Micky, Maxxy, Dill, Dicko and Jonesy. And a massive “well done’ to Mel Lindsay and her crew for putting together what was a fantastic fundraiser for the Starlight Foundation. Along with our guest speaker Kristy Whitnell, who had the room in the palm of her hand with an emotional recall of the issues her and her family have faced with young son Jett, the luncheon was a huge success with the club raising over $4,500 toward this important cause. Special thanks also to the Officer Football Club who purchased a table and joined in on the occasion. And a thank you to all of those sponsors that donated towards the day. Events See the flyer attached for the CFC $5K Draw #2. Tickets are limited and available at the club. Good luck to all teams today. Go Eagles!!

Last week the Pakenham Football Club had our 20 year reunion of the Premiership sides of 1997. Many of the past Senior and Reserves players came back to the club, to relive their Premiership glory from that day. Unfortunately on the field, as has been the case all year, the Senior side, while competitive during the match, couldnt come away with the four points over Tooradin. In the Ressies, they were simply outplayed by a side, that still has finals aspirations.
Meanwhile, the Under 19s, continued their great form over the past few weeks, coming away with a comprehensive win against the Seagulls. Currently sitting on top of the Under 19B ladder, the under 19s are setting their own destiny in season 2017. Today we welcome Berwick Football Club, and we know that games against Berwick are always tough, however the boys will be giving their all, trying to cause the upset of the season.

It was another big day at Edwin Flack last Saturday with two great wins out of three against strong opposition and Coterie tent up and going again. The U19’s kicked it off with another fantastic win. After being 15 points down at half time the boys kept Narre goalless in the third quarter to get within 2 points at ¾ time. Both teams played a strong fourth quarter with our boys just getting across the line. The boys have another big challenge this week playing Beaconsfield at Holm Park. There will be no easy games with this new split league for the boys, however with the improvement seen in the last few weeks it an exciting time for the team. Let’s try and get a few supporters down to Beacy at 10:30am to support the boys this Saturday. The Reserves match was an absolute battle with just 3 goals kicked per side. The low scoring was a bit of a surprise given the decent weather and the class of the two sides, with both teams having numerous players with Senior experience playing on the day. Unfortunately for our boys, Narre were just too good on the day getting up by 3 points.
The Seniors match was not as close as the other two matches on the day with our boys being 31 points up at half time and 53 up at ¾ time, running out to win by 49 points at the end of the day. All the usual suspects played good footy, as well as the younger boys again showing great promise around the ground and getting amongst the goals. This week the Reserves and Seniors are off to Pakenham. After the games on Saturday we’d like to see players, supporters and committee to get back to the Cardinia Park Hotel for a couple of beers and meal to support our long time sponsor. See Russell Trait for details. We’ve also got our Past Players Day on Saturday 22nd July vs. Doveton. We will also be celebrating our 1977 Seniors flag and 1997 Under 18’s flag on the day. It promises to be a big day with no doubt many good stories told. See you all at the footy. Go Wickers

BERWICK 41 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 65 A confident Berwick welcomed the premiers Narre Warren in a match The Wickers were confident of causing an upset in at home. Well Berwick’s confidence was short lived as Narre came to Edwin Flack with a job to do and got straight down to business. The Magpies put on a masterclass, outscoring The Wickers by 15 goals (20-5) in the first quarter. Berwick’s defence had no answer to the tenacious Narre attack of Gabby Dwyer and Tayla Shannan were on fire. Narre were unstoppable and increased their lead to 20 goals by the half with ease. A 19 to 14 third term had the visitors in complete control and they held insurmountable lead of 25 goals with a quarter to go. With the game in the bag, Narre cruised to a 25 goal win but to Berwick’s credit the young Wickers continued to fight until the final whistle.
CRANBOURNE 39 DREW ROC 39 A draw for the third week in the SEFNL, the second in two weeks featuring Cranbourne. ROC came to play and hit the court running. The Kangaroos had been under pressure to perform after a disappointing few weeks of netball. With all guns blazing ROC goalers Courtney Linhart and Gemma Stacey shot the Kangaroos to an eight goal (14-6) quarter time lead. The Roos were playing inspired netball through the midcourt and managed to maintain their lead. The Eagles slowly chipped away at The Kangaroos lead and by three-quarter time were trailing by four goals. With the game online Cranbourne’s experienced players stepped up, led by their staunch defence The Eagles worked themselves into the contest. Cranbourne’s defence managed to restrict ROC’s attack to only five last quarter goals. The Eagles goal attack Alanah Hardy rose to the occasion and shot all nine goals for Cranbourne in the last term but it wasn’t enough to separate either team when the final whistle blew with teams tied at 39 goals apiece.
DOVETON 36 LOST TO HAMPTON PARK 43 This match had ramifications for both sides, a loss here for Hampton Park would have all but ensured their finals aspirations were over in season 2017. The Redbacks set the tone early and managed to edge out The Doves leading from start to finish. Although the teams remained close, the slightest of all margins - one goal separated both teams at the last change. Which team wanted it more and Redbacks Coach Kylie Kibble got her girls to fire up. Karli Foster led the visitors from the defence and The Redbacks maintained their momentum. Young shooter Stephanie Hille played inspired netball shooting 11 final quarter goals as The Redbacks won the quarter by six goals and receiving a huge confidence boost winning by 7 goals and securing a vital four points.
PAKENHAM 26 LOST TO TOORADIN 72 Tooradin entered the court at Toomuc Reserve breathing fire after succumbing to their first loss of the season a fortnight ago. Looking at their respected ladder positions it looked like a one-sided contest on paper. Unfortunately that’s how it panned out. The Seagulls were sublime jumping to a 14 goal lead (19-5) as Tooradin sharpshooter Alex Maher shot 15 first quarter goals. Tooradin remained in control extending their lead to 32 goals at the main change. With Tooradin in a comfortable position coach Kelly Andrews was able to changes things up and substituted girls to provide greater game time. To Pakenham’s credit they never dropped their heads and fought out the second half. The Lions midcourt did their best to take it up to the premiership favourites but found themselves on receiving end of one of the biggest loses of the season. Tooradin managed to amass a season-high 72 goals in their impressive return to the winners list winning by 46 g

ROC V TOORADIN
Last Time - Round 3 Narre Warren 46 loss to Beaconsfield 49
Last Time - Round 5 Tooradin 53 def ROC 29
A battle of the netball heavyweights take to centre court on Saturday. Beacy handed Narre their first loss in nearly two seasons in their first encounter back in Round Three. Since then both teams have followed a similar path sitting second and third respectfully on the ladder. Both teams have been a leader of netball development in south east suburbs for many years. As the respected clubs have grown so has the quality of netball on the court, they are evenly matched and professionally coached. Second best isn’t good enough for either team as they both strive for a psychological advantage six weeks away from finals. Narre would be still stewing from their loss in their first encounter and would be targeting this contest to inflict their own dose of revenge. Both are gifted with talent across the court, Narre’s talented attack is matched by Beacy’s even spread of defenders, The Eagles midcourt will have a tough day competing against The Magpies. This game will be tight and will provide plenty of insights into what we should expect during the 2017 final series here. There is heaps on the line if Beacy win, it would be hard for Narre to reach for the Top-2 and if Narre get one back then it will be an interesting run home to see who finishes with a Top-2 chance and double-chance during finals. Will Beacy get a home court advantage? Tough match to call as it will go down to the wire. Narre by a goal
ROC come into the contest against the ladder leaders after one of their most competitive matches in over two months of netball, which saw the Kangaroos finish level with finals contender Cranbourne last week. ROC started the season in fine form, a drop off in form and confidence has been costly as they have dropped out of finals contention sitting second last on the SEFNL ladder. Can last weeks performance spur the girls on to another competitive performance against the Seagulls?? Tooradin have been the high-flying team of Season 2017. The Gulls have taken their game to a new level this season which includes scoring the highest tally of the season 72 goals against the bottom placed Pakenham. Coach Kelly Andrews will be ensuring her talented crop will continue to press and work hard to maintain their position on top of the SEFNL ladder. Tooradin have team of year contenders in every position, they bring a high intensity game to the way they play which puts pressure on the opposition when they don’t have control of the possession. ROC will be a lot more competitive at home this time around, depending on player availability due to VNL commitments Tooradin should be at full strength. Formlines suggest this should be a one-sided contest in favour of the red and green machine. Tooradin by 15 goals
PAKENHAM V BERWICK Last Time - Round 6 Berwick 53 def Pakenham 41 Pakenham welcome Berwick in a contest that the Lions should think they can be competitive and a chance to cause an upset. Berwick have been one of the improvers this season and have being playing a high level of netball which should see them account for Pakenham easily if they bring their A-Game. If Berwick are to slip into old habits it will provide Pakenham with an opportunity to win their first match of the season on their home court. The Lions have struggled with consistency this season, they have played well for patches during matches but have been unable to compete for a full four quarters. Recently Pakenham have introduced some experience into their A-Grade and will be relying on their seasoned stars to produce their best if they are to get the win. Berwick Coach Janine Kilmartin has installed belief and confidence into the young Wickers group and a win here will be there third win of the season and will keep their faint finals chances alive. Berwick by 7 goals.
HAMPTON PARK V CRANBOURNE Last Time - Round 1 Cranbourne 50 def Hampton Park 33 Hampton Park come into their contest at home full of confidence after knocking over a finals aspiration Doveton at home last week. The win has thrown open the finals race as The Redbacks are now only half a game outside the 5. A win at home will continue their momentum forward and bring them to within half a game of Cranbourne with five games remaining. The Redbacks have shown enough this season that they can compete against the best in the competition but will be tested against an Eagles outfit desperate to return to the winners list. Cranbourne suffered a slip-up last week as nothing could seperate a committed ROC side last week. The Eagles are the only team to defeat Tooradin this week, which instill plenty of belief in the girls. Cranbourne have a rock solid defence which can repel and setup their forays forward, the Eagles defence can submit most attacks and will be looking to make life hard for The Redbacks attack. With so much on the line for both sides it’s going to come down to who can stand up in the last quarter with the game on the line. Cranbourne should have a touch of class and sneak home for an important win and four points. Cranbourne by 5 goals.

A Grade-Beacy backed up their performance from last week with a victory at home. The game allowed us to try some variations in our combinations, & fine tune some of our structures across the court. It was great that we were able to finish the game off strongly, & focus on our defensive positioning. BOC went to Taylah who played her most consistent game for the season & Rylee for her great game at C. B Grade-A fantastic team effort by all players in their win, the girls got off to a great start & created numerous turnovers across the court with strong defence. They put together 4 fantastic qtrs, starting with Courtney, Gabbi & Bec in the defensive end, working to pressure every entry into the goal circle. Zoe & Ciara defended well with Zoe earning a BOC for her tenacious & disciplined defence. Mel presented well on the centre pass & fed well into the goalers. Kelly, Corrine & Danielle kept the scoreboard ticking over & also provided a strong target for the feeders.
Awards: Tahlia, Keely & Chloe. 13 Red-The girls came out focused & firing in the 1st qtr & the girls made a great head start whilst playing in the drizzle, applying defence pressure all the way down the court. As each qtr progressed the girls continued to build on their lead which allowed us to experiment with new combinations. 13 White’s team focused on passing into the goal ring at training & it had an immediate positive reaction. As there was a high turn around in playing positions each qtr, all players feeding the ball to the goalers ensured they chose the right option to make it more difficult for the defenders. The ball movement around the ring was excellent & Beacy controlled all areas of the game. The team is in an excellent position when ALL players can play any position on the court! We are heading towards the exciting end of the season & all players need to maintain the positive attitude & close team spirit at training & on game day we have seen all season.
Awards: Zoe, Kelly, Mel & Ciara. C Grade came out firing with a fast start & continued to keep the momentum throughout the game. Our shooting was on from the get go & the midcourt continued to run hard all game. Thanks to Teneille who popped up from the U17s to help out in defence. Awards: Paris, Suzie, Molly & Sam. D Grade-Beacy had a strong start & kept pushing out the margin through the game, eventually coming away with a 40 point win. The girls were able to move the ball smoothly down the court & capitalize in the goal end. Intercepts down the court were strong & movement in the ring allowed midcourters to feed well into the goalers. Awards: Claire, Shelley, Emily & Maddie K. 17 White-After a tightly contested 1st qtr the girls put together some great passages of play late in the 2nd to take a nice lead into the 2nd half. Beacy’s defense was strong shutting down key players whilst the attackers worked around the tall arms of the Pakenham team. Awards: Mikaela, Jess & Bree. 15 Red-A great start with a couple of quick turnovers & goals. The girls continued to move the ball well but a few errors saw the ball go Pakenham’s way. A strong fightback in the 4th qtr, we finished the game with a draw. Awards: Alix P, Chelsea & Alix R. 15 White came out in wet slippery conditions & a game where we just couldn’t convert a high return of our shots on goal. The great thing about our team is our versatility across all positions. Well done to our defenders who put in a solid performance, while our midcourters never stopped running & presenting all game & credit to the shooters.

Last week we travelled to Berwick where we encountered some tough opposition in the junior matches. A determined 15 Red side produced a nail biter with a one goal victory and our 17 Red and four senior sides came away with convincing wins. Thank you to Berwick Netball Club for their pink bibs and their hospitality! 13R: NW 17 lost to Ber 33 BOC Annie, Shanae & Courtney Our 13R girls came up against a well-drilled Berwick side. With another tough game this week, they will have to bring their best to match Beaconsfield. 13W: NW 11 lost to Ber 20 BOC: Tahlia & Paige Berwick were too strong for our youngest netballers, taking an early lead and building on it. The girls will have to re-group for another tough opponent in Beaconsfield. 15R: NW 29 def Ber 28 BOC: Lauren, Kira, Amy H A great game of skill from both sides, with only a goal separating them at the final whistle. This section continues to produce exciting matches, setting up an exciting final series. 15W: NW 18 lost to Ber 24 Toor BOC: Jade, Ella & Hayley An improved performance from our 15W girls, just falling short to Berwick in a competitive match. 17R: NW 45 def Ber 12 BOC: Georgia & Alex Coach Holly challenged her girls this week, taking on new challenges and experimenting with new combinations. The four-quarter effort shone through on the scoreboard. 17W: NW 25 def Ber 19 BOC: Abby & Nat A gutsy win by the 17W girls to hold off a late charge from Berwick. D: NW 39 def Ber 18 BOC: Ash, Holli & Maddy An emotional game for the D Grade team, however they rallied around their teammates and produced a steady win. C: NW 48 def Ber 21 BOC: Chelsea, Maddie & Kayleigh Continuing their unbeaten run, C Grade controlled this match from the first whistle. Swift ball movement in attack created lots of scoring opportunities. B: NW 63 def Ber 22 BOC: Jayde, Madi & Amy For the second week in a row, B Grade got off to a blistering start, shooting 21 goals in the first quarter. The girls finished off strongly, regaining their momentum to notch up 63 goals. We wish the Berwick goaler a speedy recovery after a painful knee injury. A: NW 65 def Ber 41 BOC: Erin & Gabby As A Grade began, the heavens opened. The team adjusted well to the wet weather conditions but had to work hard to shake off a persistent Berwick side in a high scoring match. Off the court the Black & White Ball was lots of fun with our netballers showing their competitive streak with Jacqui McNamara and Jayde Stow leading the way with the bib challenge and musical chairs. Thank you to the senior players and family members who attended, your support is valued by the Club. A very big shout out to the team who set up the room on Saturday afternoon and to Holly Booth for all the ‘pre work’, organizing, communicating and bringing it altogether. The donut wall was a hit! This week we take on Beaconsfield, with all ten matches expected to be challenging. With several players unavailable, there will be opportunities for players to step up and show what depth we have as a club. We will be joining forces with Beaconsfield Netball Club to support young netballer, Ciara Nelson. There will be raffles throughout the day. We hope the netball community can come together to show their support for Ciara and her family. One of the main reasons I love being part of this club is the incredible people you have the privilege of working alongside and the friendships that are formed. Last Thursday night, our netball club hosted a junior meal night as well as the normal senior football and netball meals that are served each week. With well over 120 meals prepared and served on this evening, the committee would like to sincerely express their appreciation to those incredible junior parents of our club who so enthusiastically and spontaneously offered their assistance with set up to ensure the success of the night. It makes you so proud to be part of this club when you have people so willing to help the committee in hosting a special club event like we did. Thanks to all our junior families who supported this event and came up that night to join us for a meal. We would love to see all members of our club support the dinner we are holding at Shanikas Pakenham on WEDNESDAY 2nd August commencing at 6.30 pm. Players, coaches, family members, officials, supporters and friends of the club are all welcome for an exceptional night out at the very low price of $35 per head. As well as amazing food, great company we will also have included in the cost door prizes and raffles on the night! RSVP together with your payment needs to be done by 27th July and can be done via seeing Julie Smethurst, Nicole Foss or advising your team manager. Full details listed on our Facebook and TeamApp. In closing this week on behalf of everyone that calls Pakenham Lions Netball Club home, our congratulations and best wishes to Jen Burridge who celebrated her 70th Birthday this week. Jen’s commitment and dedication to this club is substantial and one that has seen her appointed
a Life Member many years ago, our pavilion named after her and she continues to work tirelessly and generously for this club and all its players. In typical fashion on the actual day of her birthday Jen was coaching at the club’s junior clinic we held for U9, U11, U13 and U15 players, wishing no fuss for herself but with her entire focus on coaching the next generation of netballers for the club. Happy Birthday Jen, you are truly an inspiration to us all!

berwick Narre was always going to be a tough day even at home, but our club spirit shone through, providing some outstanding support on the day for all of our teams! Both 13’s had good wins against the Magpies, leaving them both in the top 3 positions on the run home to finals season. Our 15 Whites had a great win over Narre for the 2nd time this season and the Red’s went down by a single goal in the dying minutes, leaving supporters on the edge of their seats. Both 15’s are still on the road to finals, giving all these 4 teams finals hopes for the first time in over 3 years.
17 Whites and Reds both went down this week, leaving them both outside of the top 5. 17 Whites are nipping at the heels of Pakenham, which will prove a great contest come this round down at Toomuc Reserve. Reds will be hoping to keep Pakenham out of the 6 with a win on their side. With our Senior sides not having the best of outcomes last week, the teams showed promising results in comparison to those achieved in the previous encounter with Narre Warren. These teams are only getting stronger as the weeks go by and we as a club can’t wait to see what they can accomplish next!

What a fantastic day out at Pakenham despite very cold and at times wet conditions. Our junior teams put in some impressive performances with huge improvements on their scores from our last meeting with Pakenham. 13’s Red managed to come away with a convincing win keeping them well and truly in the finals race! A special mention to our 15’s Red who although missing the opportunity to take the win gave it a real shake only going down by three goals. Keep building on that girls and a win will be right around the corner. Our senior teams came away with a clean sweep with some big wins to A, C and D grade and despite making hard work of it B grade managed to get across the line too.
With all senior netball winning and seniors and reserves football taking the chocolates too we were set for a night of celebrations at our annual formal night. A fabulous night was had by all! Thank you to all who attended the evening and to the Tooradin Sports Club for providing an amazing venue and meal for the night. An even bigger thank you to Bridget Cook, Loretta Iverach and Ellie Brooke for organizing the event. This week we take on ROC at their home ground. Yet another tough round of netball ahead, highlighting the strength of our netball league as a whole. PRESENTATION NIGHT: Saturday 23rd September. Lock it in your diary and stay tuned for further details. Go Seagulls!

Under 13 played with 6 players against Doveton. The final score did not reflect the effort all 6 players put in for the entire game. Each week there is visible improvement all over the court with each player. Great team spirit and positive attitudes is great to see with you all. Keep fighting and keep up the great spirit you all have. Under 15 started with a competitive first half but dropped away in the second half. We need to hold the intensity the whole game to stay in it till the end. Under 17 Whites played their best game by far this season! You have improved so much since the first week, and went out almost pulling a win against Doveton! Defence stuck tight, and the movement down the court was amazing! I’m so proud of everyone’s effort! Best on was hard to chose, but goes to Annalise Miall. Under 17 Red came up against a fast paced Doveton who outclassed un in their ball movement down the court. Our goals for today were to improve on our use of channels down the court, and to improve our connections, and we did just that. The game got better and better as it went on.
But Doveton really proved why they are the team to beat this season. Best on Taleisha Stoter Wallace. D Grade seriously you girls over the last couple of weeks have impressed me over and over, though last week was good but this week was just as good. We keep proving week in week out we are a team to take the flag out. Best on Chrissy. C Grade we may not have got the points but we sure played well. Unfortunately just 1 of their players was just unstoppable and we had no answer, a credit to Doveton young gun gaoler. Best on Bel and Christine. B Grade winning 3 out of 4 QTRS we ended up losing by 1 goal. Good last half effect. Well don’t Skye coming up from C grade, played fantastic and had great intensity. A Grade wow it was tight all game, goal for goal. There was not 1 player out there that didn’t give it 110%. We worked hard as a team in defence right down to attack. Thanks to Steph for filling in, congrats to Rebecca Hall making her debut in A grade. Best on was really hard to choose when every player plays like that but I’m giving it to Chloe and H. What a way to celebrate Brooke’s Bday.

We hosted ROC last week on another cold and windy morning at Casey Fields.
over $4500. Thank you to all who made donations and thanks to Kristy for sharing your story with us.
Both our 13’s team put in a massive effort and made ROC work hard for their wins. Our 13’s are always in great spirits whether they win or lose. And always showing great team work.
Thank you to the ongoing support from our sponsors:
With ROC being top of the ladder in both 15’s section we knew these games were going to be tough. The White team played with determination in a close game only going down by 3 goals. The Red’s applied pressure during the whole game but ROC ran away in the second half taking the win. Both 17 teams had good wins showing a massive difference since the first time we played ROC. The White team winning 39-25 and the Reds winning by 10 goals 44-33. Well done to both teams. The weather turned nasty as the seniors took the court, rain and wind coming from all directions. After losing to ROC first time around our D & C grades sides came out firing showing what hard work can do. Both teams were determined to come away with a win this time. Great focus, skill and team work resulted in wins for both our teams!
Yo-Get-It Trios Sports Bar Sports Co Thermofilm Y-Not Lawn and Garden Care We look forward to taking on Hampton Park this week. We would like to wish very happy birthdays to two of our young C grade players. Caitlyn and Nicole will both be turning 18 on Saturday. Happy 18th Birthday girls! GO EAGLES!
B grade found themselves 12 goals down at one point. But with some great talk during the break the girls rallied and got it back to within a goal. But not quite enough to get the win. As always both A grade sides displayed some fantastic netball. Fast paced game and some amazing skills. Neither team strong enough to run over the other. The result was a draw. We would like thank everyone that supported the Starlight Foundation luncheon and helped raise
