2017 AFL MULTICULTURAL ROUND Football communities across Victoria will celebrate its cultural diversity in the 2017 Toyota AFL Multicultural Round. Held from July 28-30, the dedicated round highlights the contribution multicultural communities have made to the game’s history and welcomes new communities to embrace Australian Football as fans, players, umpires and administrators. This weekend, several community leagues and clubs, along with the Peter Jackson VFL, Swisse VFL Women’s and TAC Cup clubs are joining in the celebrations. Across Victoria, there are a number of fantastic multicultural and indigenous programs which continue to bring people from all cultures and walks of life together. Programs including Laguntas, Kickstart, Female Boorimul Program, Multicultural School Programs, TAC Towards Zero Diversity Squads and the All Nations high-performance teams are enabling more young talent to be identified and have access to more opportunities to become the next crop of AFL stars.
In its fourth year, the AFL Victoria Multicultural Community Ambassador Program has experience significant growth, rising to over 290 participants this season, while the annual Unity Cup carnival had more than 250 players lacing up the boots this year. Through the tireless work of our Region Commissions and Metropolitan leagues, AFL Victoria continues to work hard to ensure all aspiring footballers, both male and female, are afforded an introduction to the game that will hopefully evolve into a long-term connection. This weekend, AFL Victoria encourages everyone to embrace Multicultural Round and remember that Australian Football is a game for everyone, no matter who you are or where you’re from. Football is all the richer for our diverse community’s participation and involvement. FOR MORE INFO ON AFL VICTORIA’S MULTICULTURAL PROGRAMS, VISIT AFLVIC.COM.AU

NARRE WARREN 8.9.57 DEF CRANBOURNE 4.14.38 Tricky conditions made for an interesting contest between two arch rivals as a confident Narre Warren took on Cranbourne. Both teams setup defensively with a loose player in defence as they struggled with the swirling breeze in a scrappy first half of football. Two goals apiece wasn’t the score line most expected between two finals bound teams. These contest are usually tight and physical until a game changing can quickly swing to ones favour. This time it was Narre Warren after a Cranbourne turnover led to a flurry of six unanswered goals. Josh Tonna is getting better every week back-to-back best on grounds, he helped and their midfield brigade took control of the match. Dean Kelly was dominating the wing while Trent Cody and Michael Collins got stuck in to give Narre to a 28 point lead at the last change. Narre would only kick goals with the breeze as they were held goalless in the last but Cranbourne couldn’t capitalise. The Eagles had their opportunities in the last quarter with seven scoring shots only to kick one goal as they went down by 19 points. Ryan Jones booted two while Ryan Davey battled well for Cranbourne.
BERWICK 10.11.71 DEF DOVETON 10.7.67 The strong breeze made it difficult for both sides at Edwin Flack, as premiership favourite Berwick welcomed finals contender Doveton. Berwick won the toss and kicked with the aid of a fivegoal breeze and didn’t waste their opportunity to get straight to work. Berwick missed a couple of gettable chances early on to kick away, The Doves snagged a goal against the tide of play to reduce the margin to only 23 points at quarter-time. A Rus Gabriel led resurgence saw the fifth place Doves storm back into contention. You would have to go back into the record books to find the last time Berwick were held scoreless for an entire quarter at home. Doveton delivered their best quarter of the season taking full advantage of the conditions kicking six second quarter goals setting up a 38 point turnaround to have a 15 point lead at halftime. The third quarter was a repeat of the second but this time it was Berwick kicking the goals and holding Doveton goalless to regain the lead by 10 points. Harry Money looked more settled in his second game back in the seniors booting three goals. Including two crucial goals in the third quarter. With the game on the line the match went up a few levels. When Joyce kicked his third early in the last the margin was back to only three points. Young Dove Tyson Bellinger and Coach Aaron Davey kicked Doveton in front by 10 points. Berwick weren’t done with two late goals including the late match winner from Luke Sheppard to steal a victory from the jaws of defeat.
OFFICER 11.10.76 DEF PAKENHAM 5.6.36 A scoreless opening term for Pakenham set the tone in difficult conditions at Starling Rd. Officer perform at a different level when they are at full strength with the services of talented big man Dylan Chapman and the extractor Chris Larosa. Officer managed to kick the first three goals of the match, as the Kangaroos set about securing their fifth win of the season as they led by 22 points at the first change. Matty Clarke was a focal point in attack for the home-side as a The Kangaroos continued their first half surge. As like the week earlier, The Kangaroos were faultless in front of goal in the second term, booting four straight and had a comfortable 38 point at the main change. Pakenham worked hard trying to get themselves back into the contest in the second half but it was to no avail as the damage was already done. Chapman was too strong in the ruck and around the ground while former captain James Canty put in one of his better performances for the season. The second half was a lot more even with both clubs kicking four goals apiece, Clarke finished the day with four majors in the impressive 40 point win by the Kangaroos. It’s the first time that Officer have beaten their rivals twice in a season.
TOORADIN 9.7.61 LOST TO BEACONSFIELD 12.12.84 Blustery conditions met both sides down at Westernport Oval, Beacy struck early with a quick goal from Dan Coinu playing his first senior match for the season. When Beau Dowler kicked truly The Eagles jumped out to a 13-point lead before Tooradin small forward Patrick Chin snaffled one late in quarter to reduce to eight points at the first break. The visitors once again got the first two goals in a tight opening to the second term. It was looking like Beacy were in control before Chin popped-up for his second in the half to keep The Gulls in the contest and led to a late quarter revival with the home-side kicking two of the next three goals as they went into the main break still trialling by only eight points. With the game in the balance, enter Beaconsfield’s saviour, Tricky Troy McDermott. As he has done throughout the season, McDermott uses every ounce of experience to impose himself on the contest to give The Eagles a lift. McDermott kicked two goals during the third team as the Eagles continued to edge forward towards a win extending their lead to 13 points with a quarter to go. As per the start of each quarter, the visitors were first to hit the scoreboard. When McDermott kicked his third for the second half The Eagles were in front by 26 points. Both teams exchanged goals in a frenetic finish to the match, to Tooradin’s credit they continued to fight and prevent the margin to blowout. McDermott kicked Beacy’s last quarter taking his tally to four which makes it 40 for the season to ensure a win for the away side while Chin managed to sneak home his third but it wasn’t enough as The Seagulls went down by 23 points. Matt Livermore and Nick Lang were solid contributors throughout the afternoon.

CRANBOURNE V PAKENHAM Last Time - Round 9 Pakenham 4.6.30 lost Cranbourne 11.11.77 It’s only been six weeks since Cranbourne and Pakenham, neither side have been that impressive since. Reigning premiers Cranbourne appear to be in a downward spiral at the wrong end of the season, while Pakenham were disappointing in the last match going down to Officer by five goals. The Eagles were too strong in their Round 9 encounter, Marc Holt and Nathan Gardiner combined for half their score, neither will be available this weekend. Where will their goals come from in this now crucial contest at Casey Fields? Cranbourne find themselves under pressure after their second loss in four weeks has put them at risk of missing out on a Top 2 position at season’s end. Will the real Cranbourne please stand up? The Lions will be looking towards the pre-season with only four weeks of the home and away season remaining. Although it’s been a disappointing season to date for the once proud football club, adversity provides its own opportunities and with the right people in charge The Lions can only go one way which is up the ladder. It’s very unlikely we will see an upset this weekend, Cranbourne’s class and experience will be enough to catapult the Eagles forward. The question is how will the Eagles win? Will last year’s premiers get their season back on track and make a statement that they are still genuine contenders? Only time will tell. Cranbourne by 27 points
BEACONSFIELD V OFFICER Last Time - Round 9 Officer 4.2.26 lost to Beaconsfield 24.23.167 Beaconsfield put in one of their best performances of the season back in Round Nine against Officer. The Eagles had three players kick five or more goals in a complete romp at Starling Rd. In Officer’s defence they weren’t at full strength, the Roos lack the quality of depth other teams have in their arsenal but with their best 22 they can compete with anyone in the competition. Dylan Chapman and Chris La Rosa have formed a formidable partnership in the middle, the one-two punch ensure Officer are generating quality ball movement going forward. Without the pair the Kangaroos are a shadow of themselves and dropped away quickly, back-to-back victories will have them back full of confidence. Beaconsfield have shown rapid improvement with many youngsters making the grade at senior level. With young sides developing a new game plan come with their own pitfalls, inconsistency can happen and leave The Eagles exposed. Beacy amassed 47 scoring shots one of their best returns, if they had of kicked better the margin could have been 200 points. Can Officer close the gap or will Beaconsfield steamroll them again this time at home? Beaconsfield will be looking to strangle Officer with their defensive press and hope they can beat them with their outside run. Beaconsfield can punish opposition sides from turnovers and Officer can fall into the trap of being wasteful going inside forward 50 and not capitalising on their hard midfield work. Scott Meyer rises to every contest and will relish the chance to reacquaint himself against Chapman, the winner of this contest could decide the match. Beacy by 19 points
NARRE WARREN V HAMPTON PARK Last Time - Round 6 Hampton Park 6.3.39 lost to Narre Warren 38.20.248 Narre Warren have returned to form in dramatic style claiming two major scalps defeating finals contenders Beaconsfield and Cranbourne in consecutive weeks. The Magpies will need to ensure they don’t fall victim to complacency to maintain pressure on the teams above in the final month of the season. For Hampton Park the end of the season can’t come fast enough, The Redbacks enter the contest fresh off the bye and will hoping to put their best foot forward and try and finish the season on a better note then it started. Narre have found their inner mongrel, the fight that separates them from the rest of the pack, any sniff of blood and the Narre brigade will swarm. The Magpies talented midfield who only a month ago were looking tired and beaten have risen again, Josh Tonna is back to his supreme best providing plenty of run and link play. Trent Cody, Hayden Stagg and Dylan Quirk are playing tough uncompromising brand of football which will control the midfield battle. Out of the three teams competing for the second position on the ladder, Narre find themselves behind by a whopping 40% and be looking to today’s game to help build that percentage and put themselves closer to a Top-2 birth. All the signs point to an emphatic Narre Warren win at home but by how much will the key. Narre by 209 points.
TOORADIN V DOVETON Last Time - Round 8 Doveton 8.7.55 lost to Tooradin 12.14.86 Tooradin caused one of the upsets of the season when they travelled to AJ Robinson Reserve and defeated Doveton on their own dung heap. It was one of Tooradin’s bright sparks of the season, they have only defeated Doveton twice in 20-odd attempts. The Seagulls weren’t far off away from being a genuine finals contender but a loss to Officer all but railroaded their momentum. There aren’t too many sides who shown the ability to scrap and match it with Doveton’s midfield but Tooradin did. Can their strong bodied midfielders do it again? Tooradin have recruited strongly but with any new team it can take a while to gel. Doveton come into the contest on the back of one of their strongest performances for the past couple of seasons pushing the undefeated Berwick to the brink going down by only four points. Playing Coach Aaron Davey has returned from a persistent ankle injury, The Flash’s class and poise has added another dimension to the hard working big bodies of the Doveton midfield. Spearhead Taylor Joyce is slowly returning back to form after niggling injuries which kept the gun forward sidelined and below his best this season. At the business end of the season when the four points are more vital than ever Doveton have too much riding on this result to lose this one away from home. Tooradin have shown their best makes them a tough opponent to stop and they match-up well against The Doves. Doveton by 17 points

A mixed day again at Narre last week as we could only come away with one win out of our four games. The Under 19B’s kicked the day off at Fox Rd. in a game that we were hoping to take some points away from. The last couple of meetings between the two teams have been close so a great contest was what we were anticipating. And while it didn’t blow out, Narre seemed to have control for the majority of the contest. And while we kept at Narre all game, we just couldn’t bridge the ½ time gap of 15 points and although we didn’t throw the towel in, we went down by 21 points at the end. If we can regroup and beat Tooradin next week, then the boys can start planning for finals. Best were BOT, Hodgey, Fida, Zach Kais, Johno Lucas and Matt Harvey-Sich. If it was any of our teams that needed a win it was the 19A’s. Coming off a few losses in a row, we hadn’t adjusted to the step up in competition and it was a big game for both teams as 4th took on 2nd. We jumped out of the blocks kicking the first three goals but allowed Narre back in. Even if we lead by 22 points at ½ time, there was still reservations about our recent ability to see games out. And by ¾ time our concerns were justified as the lead had been cut back to five points. In a tough final term, it was our boys that hung on to record a massive confidencebuilding win as we got home by seven points. Now to continue that on as we owe Berwick one from the last time we met. Best for us were Rama, Richo, Tom Stiglich, Cal, Russo and Corey. The twos are really battling for numbers at the minute and we are playing a few under 19 guys who it must be said are playing some good footy. With only eight of our 22 in from the premiership winning side of 2016, we need to keep in touch until we get some of these guys back and can then have another crack at the flag. Narre are unbeaten on top and it showed on Saturday. We were never really in the game but our endeavour and willingness to not concede kept it from being a really big loss. In saying this, the 42-point margin flattered us a little and we can only get better as we start getting some players back. Best for us were Jake, Fish, Brendan, Miceli, Lamont and Archie. Catches win matches, straight kicking wins games of footy. All the clichés in the world could come in to play in a game that was there for the taking but we just couldn’t capitalise on. From the outset we knew we were going to be challenged by a Narre side on the improve. Our ability to hold them goalless for two quarters was duly noted, but our ability to only kick 2.9 collectively over those same two quarters with the advantage of a 4 goal wind cost us the game; that and 15 crazy minutes in the third quarter where they piled on 6.0. It’s the moments that make the game what it is and we simply have to make the most of ours. Then again, not yet seen premiership cups handed out in July so time to get it right yet. Best were Fletch, Cheekas, Yoz, Zak, Jonesy and Waters. This week we welcome Pakenham in the senior groups and Berwick and Tooradin in the unders. Events $5K Draw #2 is on August 5th at the rooms. Get your tickets over the bar this week or on Thursday nights to ensure you don’t miss out on a great day/night. See the flyer for details. Good luck to all teams today. Go Eagles!!

Last week we ventured to the Officer Football Club hoping to stop our run of losses in the Seniors. However, with injuries and a couple of suspensions still hurting our Senior side, we were unable to come away with the four points. Our first half was certainly disappointing and the game was effectively over at half time. The boys tried in the second half, but couldn’t really get any inroads into Officer’s lead. In the Ressies, it was a fantastic game, whereby we were able to beat a side that was just sitting outside the top 5 on the ladder. Our second quarter was the best football that we have played all season and it certainly helped with us coming away with our second win of the season. In the Under 19s, the boys continued their fantastic form, by beating Officer at their home ground. It was a magnifficent win. Pakenham are now only percentage from Officer, who are currently sitting on top of the ladder. Today we certainly have a challenge in playing Cranbourne on their home deck, however the boys will be giving it their all, to try and come away with the points.

This week is a huge week for the Club as we travel to Holm Park to take on Beaconsfield and try to turn around a 140 point hiding they gave us at home a few weeks ago as we celebrate Ben Tivendale’s 300th senior game. Ben has been a loyal and valued member of our Club for many years and still sets standards of preparation and commitment of the highest level. There will be an informal function at the clubrooms this evening to celebrate Ben’s achievements and all are welcome. Last week at home against Pakenham produced a mixed bag of results with both the U19’s and the Reserves going down in games that had been expected to win. The greater
will to win shown by the Pakenham teams was enough to get them over the line in low scoring games in windy conditions. The Seniors started with the strong breeze at their backs and managed to keep Pakenham scoreless in the first quarter. An excellent second quarter in both attack and defence saw the boys get further in front and although the commitment and skill levels seemed to wane after half-time they managed to outclass Pakenham to the tune of 40 points. The Club’s major function for the season, the Reverse Draw, is getting closer so make sure you have your tickets organised. A great day is assured with cash prizes totalling $10,000.

A full card of four Narre v Cranbourne footy matches saw a blockbuster day at Fox Road. Narre took the points in Seniors, Reserves and Under 19B, while the 19As fell just a goal short of delivering the clean sweep.
Better players Ben Carter , JB Faustin , Corie Inteveen , Jordy Flannery , Andy Ray , Corey Bader among others in a very even team performance with 6 changes from week before due to injury & illness .
Seniors – The first half of the Senior game was a pressure-packed arm wrestle as the wind forced the play constantly to Fox Road’s notorious dead pocket. Two energy-sapping defensive quarters saw just two goals to each side at the main break. You could feel that either team might crack the game open with 5 or 10 minutes of run-on footy if their opponent dropped their guard at any stage.
Under 19A – Under 19A’s played Cranbourne in very windy and tough conditions.
And it was Narre – kicking with the wind in the third quarter - who found a pathway wide on the outer flank to manufacture six goals to Cranny’s one – and open up a 5 goal lead. Cranny had its chances in the last quarter but its efforts resulted in behinds when they needed goals, as Narre’s defence held its poise. Josh Tonna was outstanding for the winners all day in the heavy traffic; Dean Kelly, Sammy McLean and Collo gave us the grunt we needed, and Richo was creative and energetic in our forward half. Reserves Fantastic 4 Qtr effort in tough conditions with strong wind blowing to one end good start in 1st qtr with 4 goals to 1 then into wind able to restrict Cranbourne to 1 goal , while also scoring 1 against breeze.2 goals in remainder of both qtrs to 1 after halftime set up a very pleasing win against quality opponent. 3 goals to skipper Mitch Cowan & 2 to Luke Cody in his first game of the year returning from injury.
Our boys got off to a poor start conceding 3 quick goals whilst kicking with a strong wind but worked our way back to be just down at quarter time. Another poor second quarter left us 4 goals down at half time and up against it. A much better second half almost resulted in us pinching the win but Cranny held on to win by 6 points. Best were Leigh Tannerhill, Jack Toner & Jessie Davies while Braydan Sharpe was best forward kicking 3. Under 19B – Conditions were tough early, the ground very muddy & wet after a lot of rain during the week. But our side got off to to good start winning the footy in tight and catching the visitors on the spread. By half time we held a small 15 point lead but felt the lead could have been bigger and was in control of the game. In the second half we were unable to break away from Cranbourne, who’s pressure was strong in the contest, but to our credit we didn’t allow them to gain any pressure on us on the scoreboard. Narre holding on to a reasonably convincing 21 point win making it consecutive wins for the first time this season. Bailey Wardle played his best game for the season finding plenty of the footy and hitting the scoreboard with 3 majors. He, along with Brandon Hogan, Kyle Potter and skipper Jimmy Richards were the better players on the day

Last weekend we enjoyed a bye which enabled the young redbacks to rest there weary bodies as a long season draws to a close. The week prior we hosted Cranbourne at home in what always loomed as a mis-match in where both teams are currently at. To the seniors credit they never stopped trying all day. Cranbourne had kicked 22 goals by half time and it was looking quite dire for the second half. To the boys credit they restricted Cranbourne to 8 second half goals which was a mighty effort. Better players on the day; M Penn, J Philpin, D Asling, H Brough, J Cross & B Keyzer. The seconds hit the ground with a make shift team and we would like to thank the boys that have been filling in to enable us to put a team on the park. Special mention to Metin Azirt who raced down after completing a sale at an open house, for quick change from suit and tie and into his footy gear. A mighty effort to help the club out. The boys put up a great effort restricting Cranbourne to 16 goals for the game. Better players on the day; N Dawes, M Phouttanouvoung, J Thurwood, M Aziret & A Rattle. Last weekend the Club held its annual black and red ball. It was a great night, photo’s up on clubs facebook page. Big thank you to the organisers, Maddy Hanlen, Alisha Parissis & Megan Egbars. Fantastic job ladies.

Once again it was a hard slog against a side that just out played, out smarted, out done us. We are better than we play and I wait the day that we come out and totally dominate, I hope it’s this week at home against the Dove’s, my old stomping ground, again some awesome effort’s from individual’s but i’ts a team that will fine the success that we are all chasing. The reserve’s were in it for the first three quarter’s but were unable to keep up at the end, but a great effort from those boy’s, was great to see Craig blooding more under 19s again last week and he tell’s me that will now continue till season’s end now, good luck to all. We would like to thank some more sponsor’s for jumping on at last minute we appreciate all the help we can get. Thank’s to McGrath concreting Donny Papas for there hard earned, cheer’s boys. Well next couple of week’s we should find out where we will be next year and weather it’s going to be in two or three we look forward to the challenge good luck to all this week, GO GULLS (Did you see Chris I took my knee off the throat) Very diplomatic hey?

Last weekend all teams headed down to Edwin Flack to reverse Berwick in one windy day of Football. The 19s went down by 7 points in a tough game against Berwick!! The Doves really let this one slip having put ourselves in a winning position at 3 quarter time. Luke Coad, Dyl Bowman and Jake Nicholson were best for the Doves The reserves had a real crack against a skilful Berwick in terrible conditions, being with-in 2 points at 3 quarter time but unfortunately couldn’t bring it home, going down by 14 points. Sam Muirhead was dangerous up forward and Michael Rodriquez continued his form across half back. Our seniors knew going into this match it wasn’t going to be easy against the undefeated Berwick side. Berwick took the lead early at the end of the first quarter, but we edged our way back in. By the half time break we lead by 15 points and boys looked up and about heading into the second half. Another lead change by three quarter time saw Berwick be 10 points up leading into the last quarter. Taylor Joyce dominated down forward with 3 goals, whilst Big Russ once again held his own in the ruck. Matt Jamo made it difficult for the Berwick forward line to score, whilst Aaron Davey, Sam Raru and Ned Battle all played impressive within the middle. Unfortunately Berwick scored a goal within the last 20 seconds of the match and we fell short by 4 points in the end. Whilst a disappointing result, we are still so proud of the boys performance and it’s the confidence we need heading into finals. This weekend our U19’s have a bye, but the rest of the club travels down to Tooradin. Please don’t forget we have our last function for the year this weekend – Bizarre Gazzard at the rooms. It’s still not too late to purchase your tickets. Please see either Donald or Shannon Henwood to purchase them. Also a reminder we have our next two home games against Beaconsfield and Narre Warren are locked in for night matches. All playing times will be communicated inside the clubrooms or via your coaches. GO DOVES!

BERWICK 41 LOST TO DOVETON 59 Doveton are a different side when at full strength with their VNL players available for selection. To the Doves credit they extended their lead at every change. Sharni Samason was unstoppable again for the visitors, Samason made light work of the developing Berwick defence and help steer Doveton into the right direction. A 16 to 12 first quarter backed up by a 12 to 9 second term had the visitors in front by seven at the main change. Liz Edwards and Hayley Stewart kept the quality supply into attack for the Doves while Mel Webster and Leah Seeto were a formidable task to get past in defence. The Wickers had plenty of young talent on display and the girls were in for the fight. Bec Langford and Renee Gill battled hard to stem the flow but couldn’t reduce the impact on the scoreboard. Doveton continued to win the important contests as they won the third quarter and extended the margin to 13 with 15 minutes to go. Samason wasn’t done yet and showed why she is regarded as one of the league’s best shooters. Samason finished the game 45 goals Four more then the whole Berwick side as the finals bound Doveton won by a comfortable 18 goals.
NARRE WARREN 51 DEF CRANBOURNE 29 Powerhouse Narre Warren welcomed back some of their top end talent with immediate results as they came out and mauled Cranbourne. The Magpies pulled out all the stops and restricted The Eagles to a measly 10 first half goals. While at the attacking end as we have seen all season Gabby Dwyer was unstoppable. Dwyer was on target shooting at 93% (14 from 15) as the home side led by 17 points (27-10) at the half. Most teams fall away under the intense pressure from the reigning premiers but Nat Sparks and Sharni Lambden fought hard for Cranbourne they won the third quarter 13-8 reducing the margin to 15 goals. The last quarter was all Narre, Erin Clark has been a dominant force on the wings all season and today was no different assisting the home side to a 13-8 last quarter eventually running out victorious by 22.
ROC 55 DEF PAKENHAM 28 ROC’s last win was Round 3 against the winless Pakenham outfit. The Kangaroos had shown some improvement over the past few matches as demonstrated by a draw at Cranbourne. It was important for ROC to get off to a great start at home. Ash Barnett and Olivia Hamilton were strong through the midcourt ensuring enough supply was delivered to their attack. Sam Neil was great in attack while the ever reliable Mel Overdyk and Laura Quinn where rock solid in defence. ROC led at every change, to Pakenham’s credit they girls won the second term by a goal but it wasn’t enough to swing the momentum their way. The Lions are working as hard as ever to secure their first four points for the season but today wasn’t their day going down by 27 goals.
TOORADIN 55 DEF BEACONSFIELD 42 A preview of what we can expect during finals was on show as Tooradin and Beaconsfield created a fantastic spectacle of Netball. Beacy came out with a point to prove after a close loss last weekend. The Eagles were at full flight during the first quarter, Rylee Nelson was a handy inclusion to their midcourt as they lead 14-9. Beacy’ seven played a great brand of team netball and maintained their five goal lead at the main change. As all good sides a Tooradin fight back was expected, Coach Kelly Andrews moved Sara Duncan to centre to tackle Nelson while sharpshooter Alex Maher took over the shooter role. Maher was on fire scoring 11 goals out of The Seagulls 13 as they reduce the margin to only one goal. The Seagulls rose to the occasion. Jess Cox was a great foil for Maher while Ebony Dolan and Bec Kinna were working hard in defence. Tooradin carried their momentum through to the final quarter with a sublime finish to the match. Tooradin scored 14 goals to 10 to record a memorable win in a great season for the club.

BEACONSFIELD V ROC Last Time - Round 9 ROC 44 lost to Beaconsfield 71 Beaconsfield have been gallant in defeat the past two weekends against fellow finals contenders Narre Warren and Tooradin and will be desperate to return to the winners list this week at home against ROC. The Eagles weren’t blown away by the ladder leaders after leading for most of the first half, The Seagulls snuck home by 4 goals. ROC celebrated their first win in three months of netball in emphatic style defeating the bottom placed Lions by 27 goals. The Kangaroos have plenty of experience and will know exactly what to expect from The Eagles as the two teams played only six weeks ago. In that performance Beacy were on taregt, shooting a season high 71 goals as they won by a massive 34 goals. Beaconsfield coach Simon O’Shannessy will hoping his team can deliver a similar result and reconfirm themselves as a genuine Top-3 side and premiership threat. Beacy by 10 goals.
CRANBOURNE V PAKENHAM Last Time - Round 9 Pakenham 36 lost to Cranbourne 51 Cranbourne will be looking to bounce back and bounce back hard against the winless Pakenham. The Eagles suffered one of their worst loses for the season margin wise going down by 22 goals against Narre Warren. Cranbourne aren’t in fifth position by luck, they have played some great netball throughout the season, including a sterling performance to be the only team to have beaten the league leaders Tooradin. The Lions themselves are desperate to secure their first win of the season. Led by Katrina Meredith in the middle Pakenham have been applying themselves into every contest just to fall short, including a disappointing 27 goal loss to ROC last week. Pakenham can start their matches well and will need to do so this week to ensure they can capture the early ascendancy. It looks a tough task against another finals contender in Cranbourne at Casey Fields. Nat Sparks and Sharni Lambden will hope they carry forward their great play from last week and help The Eagles to their 7th win of the season. Cranbourne by 11 goals.
NARRE WARREN V HAMPTON PARK Last Time - Round 6 Hampton Park 37 lost to Narre Warren 47 The reigning back-to-back premiers Narre Warren are back to their intimidating best on the court. Narre have their swagger back and are playing their best netball at the right time of the season. The Magpies have won over 90% of their matches over the past three seasons, which is a remarkable feat as the competition is closer than ever and continues to grow and become better every year. Hampton Park will arrive fresh and determined to cause an upset away from home. For The Redbacks a win here won’t only provide a huge confidence boost it will also keep their slim hope of qualifying for finals alive. Narre are well drilled and have class splashed across the court which makes them a tough nut to crack under any circumstances. Hampton Park are a better side then four wins, it’s taken the new faces a little longer to gel under coach Kylie Kibble. After finishing in the finals last year many experts had them putting pressure on teams above, a loss here and other results go against them their season could be over at 4pm on Saturday. Narre will be too big and powerful and won by 15 goals.
TOORADIN V DOVETON Last Time - Round 8 Doveton 50 lost to Tooradin 60 Doveton are currently sitting in fourth position on the ladder but have a tough final month of the season. The Doves run home include playing the three teams above them on the ladder which starts with them doing battle against league leader Tooradin. At full strength Doveton have shown they have the talent to compete with the high flyers in the competition. Can they travel down to Tooradin and prove it this week?? It will be a great showdown between two of the most talented shooters Alex Maher from Tooradin taking on Rahni Samason from Doveton. Both girls shoot at a high percentage and will cause the defence plenty of headaches. Doveton coach Liz Edwards will have a difficult task trying to find space against the talented wing defence Ebony Dolan. Doveton’s Mel Webster and Leah Seeto will have their work cutout for them trying to reduce The Seagulls scoreboard influence. Tooradin would have taken plenty of confidence from their performance last week as they rose to the occasion to come from behind to defeat Beaconsfield and will look to do the same again at home this week. Tooradin by 5 goals.

For the 2nd consecutive week, A Grade have fallen short against a top 3 side, going down to Tooradin. Having lost to Narre last week, there was an opportunity to make amends against the ladder leaders. For 3 & 1/2 qtrs, it seemed that a win was a possibility, but unfortunately errors at crucial times in the last qtr gave Tooradin a sniff, & they took the opportunity with both hands. Whilst a loss was disappointing after leading by 6 goals in the 3rd qtr, there were alot of positives to come out of the game.
are here to support you Keels no matter what the outcome!
A tough match for B Grade with a top of the table clash with Tooradin. The game started with great energy with Tooradin taking an early 2pt advantage into the 1st break. Some great defensive efforts from Gabi, Zoe & Courtney helped Beacy go into the main break on even terms. A powerful & decisive effort from the girls blew the game open & cemented their spot on top of the ladder.
13 White were challenged this week to ensure they initiated movement prior to moving forward for a pass. It was great to see players begin to implement this during the game. There were patches of excellent timing as the ball was brought down the court. Overall the girls dominated all areas of the game displaying tight defence & accurate goaling. With many changes throughout the game with this diverse team it ended with a 48goal win.
Awards: Zoe, Gabi & Kelly C Grade came up against Tooradin with both teams working hard in the 1st qtr to gain control of the game. We managed to pull away in the 2nd with plenty of run & options going forward, which helped to flow into the 2nd half.
13 Red-Unfortunately not our day. After an extremely cold start, the girls slowly found their confidence & intensity towards the end of the 2nd qtr. They showed beautiful passages of play at times but not enough to take the lead. Tooradin capitalised on our turnovers which resulted with them holding the lead. Awards: Holly & Tiarna
Awards: Ariah & Abbey
Awards: Suzie, Paris & Sam D Grade-This week we took the journey down to Tooradin. From our point of view it wasn’t the prettiest of wins, as we were behind for most of the match. To the credit of our girls, with some getting out of their comfort zones playing in different positions, we came home strong. Great to be back on the winning side. Awards: Em, Ash, Kah & T 17 Red-It was a great win by the girls. We managed to produce a fantastic team effort after last weeks loss. Awards: Annie, Em & Charlotte 17 White-The girls were looking forward to the battle & they put together some fantastic pieces of play throughout the game. The wind set the girls a challenge to control their passing & to make front space to lead for the ball. Kasey was a standout in goals holding great position & shooting with accuracy. Wishing Keely all the best on a speedy recovery after a fall in the last qtr. Awards: Kasey 15 Red-A great start in cold windy conditions, at 1/2 time scores were level, but a few defensive turnovers going our way & accurate goal scoring gave us 11goals in the 3rd. The girls kept at it & managed another 9goals in the last, giving us a 10goal win. Awards: Maxine, Millie & Mikayla 15 White versed Tooradin in a game that we took control of early & managed to put in to practice all the work from our training session during the week. Awards: Sophie F, Kayla & Darcy Our fingers are crossed for Keeley who was called to play in the U17’s, but suffered a serious knee injury that didn’t look good. We

Last week at Narre in the freezing cold it wasn’t a very successful round for us. We only won 2 out of 10 games as we felt the full force of some great Narre teams. With 6 of our team still in the top 5 of their sections and a few still able to make it, we will focus on the run into the finals. We had our trivia night on Saturday. Everyone had a great time with games, raffles, auctions and trivia while raising some funds. Thank you to the ongoing support from our sponsors Trios sports bar Yo-get-it Thermofilm Sportsco Y-not lawn mowing garden services. We are looking forward to hosting Pakenham this week. GO EAGLES!

While we are waiting for the outcome of the AFL South East Senior Competition Review, we at Pakenham are continuing to work hard to provide our players with every opportunity to develop both at training and on game day. We are very proud of every player who represents
Pakenham consistently well in a positive manner giving their best out on court each week; and look forward to seeing them in the lions colours next round supporting their team mates and other teams as we head towards finals.

Last week we faced Cranbourne which produced some very close and exciting netball matches. Mother Nature turned on the wind, making life difficult for the goalers on the court and the spectators who had to chase their chairs around the court. 13R: NW 24 def Cran 20 BOC: Lainey, Emma & Roshelle After a slow start the 13s produced a match winning second half to secure the four points. 13W: NW 26 def Cran 14 BOC: Olivia, Elly & Delany A return to form this week. A great effort by the 13W girls in windy conditions to score 26 goals. 15R: NW 24 def Cran 20 BOC: Ash H, Kira & Jaimee Another close one for the 15R girls. This section is so close at the top of the ladder that every game and goal is important. 15W: NW 26 lost to Cran 29 BOC: Caitli, Jess, Hayley A much improved performance by the 15W girls but they just couldn’t reign in Cranbourne in the final quarter. 17R: NW 37 def Cran 31 BOC: Georgia, Caitlin, Tayla, Alex A gutsy come from behind win with a whole team effort. The girls worked tirelessly, adjusting to new combinations until they found the best match up on the day. 17W: NW 33 lost to Cran 37 Another high scoring, close match for the 17W but Cranbourne held the upper hand when the final whistle blew. D: NW 36 def Cran 35 BOC: Ash, Holli, Kacey & Alex A nail biter for D Grade as this game went goal for goal with neither side able to stretch the margin. Luckily, Narre managed to maintain possession and score a steadying goal in the final seconds. C: NW 37 def Cran 20 BOC: Tayla, Kate, Kayleigh & Donna A steady victory for C Grade after a slow start. The team gathered momentum in the second half and pulled away for a convincing win. B: NW 56 def Cran 28 BOC: Jemma, Jayde, Amy & Carly A consistent performance by B Grade, who were all back on board this week. A: NW 51 def Cran 29 BOC: Tracey, Caity, Gabby, Tayla & Leigh A great defensive effort by A Grade who built their lead with each quarter to record an impressive win. This week we welcome Hampton Park for eight netball games. A special welcome to the budding Narre North Foxes netballers and girls footballers who will be playing prior to A Grade and the Senior Football. berwick Last weeks home game against Doveton proved to be an important round for the Wickers across the board. Both 13’s teams had set themselves some goals and achieve they did. The club are super proud of all these young players and such a delight to watch each and every week. Both Janelle Snelling (Reds coach) and Mel Guic (Whites) have certainly structured their teams well this season and shown the versatility these players have. Emily Mollard showing that her leads are integral to her game and Grace Moore proving height in the mid court can turn the ball over more times than not. 15 whites had a great win at home this week, with more versatility on court than ever before. Monique Mitchell showed her skills in midcourt working with some renewed confidence in her game and Eliza Angenent finding her feet & voice in WD. The 15 reds went down in a nail biter by 1 goal. With all players gaining more confidence each week these girls are looking to remain in the top 4 come finals time.
Both 17’s went down against the Doves this week, some disappointing results for the girls, but definitely some positives to come out of a loss. With the BYE round and some tough competition in the coming weeks, some regrouping and team building will go in good stead this week off. All Senior teams just couldn’t crack the strength of Doveton this time around. All grades certainly took it too the Doves but it just wasn’t our day. B grade going down again by another goal and C grade closed the margin this time around to 6 goals. Enjoy a rest this week Wickers and come back stronger at home against Tooradin come round 16. Our Past Players, Life Members and Sponsors are all invited to join us game day on August 5th to celebrate being a part of the #Wicker family. Remember our sponsor singlets are still for sale get behind the people that support us off the court.

What an exciting A grade match we saw at the seagull nest last week! Matching up against a strong and determined Beaconsfield we saw our Seagulls trailing most of the match only hitting the lead in the last quarter to take a sneaky 3 goal win! What an exciting finals series this league has ahead of it with matches like that on display. A huge shout out to our U13 Red team who came home with an impressive win which not only keeps them in the finals race but now has them with the possibility of taking third position on the ladder! We hope everyone gets behind them today as they take on Doveton. A huge day for the netball club today as we have C and D fighting for their last chance at securing a finals spot and our juniors lookin for some wins against teams they have previously performed well against. Good luck to everyone. More importantly today we celebrate a club legend in Shona Wells who today plays her 300th senior game for the club! This is a club record and we couldn’t be happier to see such a dedicated and hard working person take it out. Shona was playing senior netball as a junior player and quickly proved to be a smart and skillful midcourter. She has an amazing attitude on and off the court that has seen her rise to the challenge of A grade captain over many years. She has continued to give it her all for the club even in the toughest of times and has been a huge part of nurturing up and coming players and building toward future success. Shona is certainly the player to look up to for both junior and senior players. She is and has been the back bone of our A grade team for some time and we look forward to seeing her play many more games in the coming years. Congratulations Shona on an outstanding achievement and may we bring home the win for you!

Last weekend we ventured on down to Berwick in preparation for a big day of windy and cold Netball. We would like to thank Berwick for their hospitality throughout the day. A Grade: Welcome back to all our players, and congratulations to Helen Margaret for her Debut. Cold and windy day to play in, shaky start with a small lead at half time. Half time changes that benefited and pushed a stronger lead out against Berwick. Good work ladies and look forward to next week’s results. B Grade: Another week of being in such a large lead to then only winning by 1. Can never be too comfortable with any lead in this league. As it’s clearly shown, you take your foot off the pedal the opposition which garnish at the opportunity. Next week’s game plan, 4 consecutive quarters ladies! C Grade: Not the finest start since returning back to the court, however it was a well-deserved win overall. All players kicked into gear and showed patience with converting centre passes and 90% of bonuses. Well done ladies, time for Tooradin next week. D Grade: Continued their winning run against Berwick with a solid 27 goal win. We started off strong and brought the ball down the court nicely. Our defenders worked again tirelessly keeping our opposition to only 7 goals for the whole match, and a few missed goals from our goaling end but we were happy with our solid performance. Stay confident ladies and prepare yourselves for a big game this weekend against Tooradin. U17 Red: Well Well Well We have fixed our first quarter woes. 12-1 in the first 10 min. Girls on fire, working for each other.. Then we took our foot off the pedal..
we relaxed, and dropped our intensity.... With plenty of options in every position, We all have to give 100% for four quarters....Let’s next week work on all of us giving 4 quarter effort.. If we do all happen to click together, going to be great to watch!!! J.B. Out!!!!!!!!! U15 Red: We knew from the last time we played Berwick that it was going to be a big game, but we were prepared. With one gaoler out due to sickness our girls knew they had to lift! Being a draw at every single break, until 3 quarter time Berwick just took the lead. But we were not going away that easy, the girls gave it 100% and pulled off a 1 goal win!! So proud of you ladies! Good luck against Tooradin this weekend! U15 White: After 2 weeks off it was a slow start and took us a quarter to get into the swing of the game! Unfortunately that meant we let Berwick get a lead we were just unable to chase back! With plenty of laughs on and off the court you girls playing out the season having fun and enjoying your game! Stand out performance this week chelc the strongest most mature game I have seen from you all season. Well done girls U13 White: We tried hard but the Berwick girls were just too big for us. I’m proud of my girls for playing with as much heart as they do each and every week. Bring on Tooradin come ready for a good match girls. Good luck too all teams next weekend against Tooradin - word on the street is that we have a new assistant coach for A Grade...HINT: Well, well well.....! Go Doves!!
