Female Kickstart, All Nations & Boormiul Trials begin The search for Victoria’s most talented Indigenous and multicultural female footballers has begun, with the commencement of the Kickstart, All Nations and Boorimul Program regional trials. Held in community venues across Victoria, the regional trials provide talented Indigenous and multicultural footballers with the opportunity to showcase their skills and be selected for one of three AFL Victoria diversity talent programs. The Kickstart and All Nations programs give Under-15 footballers from Indigenous and Multicultural backgrounds an opportunity to fast track their football development through a highly enjoyable on and off field program. Selected players from the regional trials will form Victoria’s Female Kickstart and All Nations representative squads which will compete against the best players from across the country in the AFL National Female Diversity Championships later this year. In addition, the regional trials will also serve as an identification platform for the newly developed Female Boorimul Program. Drawing on similarities from the highlysuccessful Laguntas program for males, the Boorimul Program supports talented young female Indigenous athletes aged 16-20, to not

only maximise their football potential, but also to engage with Australian Football through umpiring, coaching and administrative work in the AFL. Six regional venues will host trials across the state from July 26 - August 16 including Mildura, Shepparton and Ballarat, while two trials will be held in metro Melbourne at IKON Park and Werribee Football Club. Please see below a list of trial dates and locations: •

Bairnsdale – 26th of July at Bairnsdale

Mildura – 31st of July at Senior College Oval

Melbourne - 3rd of August at Ikon Park.

• Dandenong – 7th of August at Shepley Oval. • Werribee – 7th of August at Werribee Football Club, Watton st, Werribee • Shepparton – 14th of August at Rumbalara Football Club • Ballarat - 16th of August at Saxon House, 1431 Mair St, Ballarat For more information on the Female Indigenous and Multicultural regional trials, please contact AFL Victoria on (03) 8341-6000

STINGRAYS SLIP UP AT FRANKSTON ROUND 14 MATCH REPORT

The Dandenong Southern Stingrays’ run of wins has come to a grinding halt after a heart-pounding 2-point loss to the Gippsland Power in Frankston on Saturday afternoon, going down 14.8 (92) to 14.10 (94). With the Armageddon of winds forecasted for Saturday, the day at the beach at Frankston was always going to be tricky, with the wind favouring the city end by around four goals as well as favouring the Grandstand side of the ground. Gippsland were the better team for most of the day, however they struggled to capitalise on the scoreboard, keeping the Stingrays close enough in the game to nearly snatch it in the dying minutes. Dandenong’s trademark attack on the football was also severely lacking, with the young Rays looking lethargic and missing for significant parts of the match. This in part may have been the loss of two of their hard-nut players in the first quarter, in Ali Zijai (ankle) and Captain Joshua Bateman (blurred vision from a head knock). Gippsland collected the largest part of possession around the ground, and Dandenong were simply unable to keep up, giving away undisciplined free kicks and making poor decisions. The Stingray defence did perform marvellously, with Mason deWit, Jesse Davies and young gun William Hamill once again stand-outs. Through the middle there was a standout, that being Hunter Clark who accumulated 34 possession’s, 16 handball receives, 7 clearances, 10 inside 50’s, 4 rebounds along with 2 goals to be named best afield on the day. Also, particularly noteworthy was big man Tom Dekoning, putting in his best performance of the year, amassing 42 hit outs, and providing the Stingrays with some much-needed tall timber in marking contests, especially in the last quarter standing tall. Riley Darcy was again the most dangerous Dandenong forward, supported by Campbell Hustwaite with both bagging 3 goals, but with mediocre support around the ground, the Stingrays never really deserved to win the game. Unlike the previous 6 weeks the entry inside the forward line was shallow or wide, with the midfielders unable to hit up the leading targets.

a winning culture as part of our development of players. We let ourselves in a couple of areas, which we will address on Tuesday- then focus on the Pioneers.” The first term didn’t start well for the Rays, as Gippsland opened the scoring from a free kick but it was quickly rewarded with back to back goals to Campbell Hustwaite. Unfortunately for the Power, goalkicking let them down, as they could have blown Dandenong away with the aid of the strong first quarter breeze, with the scores at quarter time, 2. 7 (19) to 2.1 (13). The second term continued much as the first did – this time the Stingrays dominating the scoreboard. The midfield pressure from the Stingrays gave first use to the forwards who slammed on six goals, with the defence only allowing 3 goals to see the Stingrays lead by 13 points at the half-time break. The third quarter was genuinely disastrous for the Rays – while they continued to give away stupid free kicks and make poor decisions under pressure, Gippsland regained the lead, booting six goals, seemingly unimpeded this time by the wind as they took all their chances in front of goals. There was a distinct lack of urgency in the way the Stingrays were playing – and despite terrific individual efforts from swinging utilities Mitch Cotter and Hunter Clark, the Stingrays went into the last term on the wrong end of a 10-point deficit. Black challenged the midfield, pleading for better use going inside 50 asking forwards to give more leads, as well as reassuring the group that the game was there for the win for whom ever wanted it the most, with now a slight drop in the wind a 2-goal breeze it should have been an easier task for the Stingrays to make it 7 wins in a row. Again, there were flashes of the Dandenong side that cruised to a 6-0 win record in the past 6 games, but this was after allowing the Power to extend the lead to 19 points in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Gippsland managed two more goals against the breeze whilst the fast finishing Stingrays come home flying until the final siren sounded on the Rays’ devastating loss by two points on a day that could have been.

round 15 review

CRANBOURNE 19.19.133 DEF PAKENHAM 9.9.63 What could have been for Pakenham if they had of taken their chances in first quarter. The Lions played one of their best quarters of the season amassing 13 scoring shots for a return of only 4.9 but the led by 25 points. Cranbourne responded kicking 4.9 in the second quarter, the game seeing a 33-point turnaround as Pakenham didn’t score again before halftime. The Eagles midfield lifted while Ryan Jones and Luke Bee-Hugo were busy in front of goal, combining for seven goals between them. Matt Fletcher and Ryan Davey continued their great run of form as the premiers put on an impressive display in the second half. After kicking nine behinds in the first quarter The Lions kicked five straight goals with Rus Lehmann and Jarad Theisz kicking two goals apiece. Chris Cardona battled hard showing great leadership but Cranbourne were too good kicking 14 goals in the second half including 11 in an impressive final quarter. The Eagles running out victorious by 70 points

BEACONSFIELD 10.9.69 DEF OFFICER 6.4.40 Blustery tough conditions greeted both teams at Holm Park, Officer made the best of the tricky conditions in Ben Tivendale’s 300th senior match with Luke Adams kicking the first goal. Both teams exchanged goals as they fought to gain momentum in a tight tough contest. Officer took a six-point lead into quarter-time, but Beacy returned serve, kicking six unanswered goals including two each to Scott Meyer and Nick McPherson. The Eagles capitalised in the swirling breeze ensuring a 40-point turnaround as they led by 34 points at halftime. Officer hit the scoreboard early in the third quarter, goals to Matty Clarke and Blair Allan reduced the margin to only 19 points. Troy Aust kicked a much needed goal for the home side before Allan kicked his second to give the Kangaroos a chance of an upset as they trialled by 27 points at the last change. With the game up for grabs it was Beaconsfield’s Kyle O’Sullivan broke the deadlock with a brilliant goal to extend The Eagles margin to 31 points. Nick McPherson put the final nail in the coffin kicking his third goal and putting the result beyond doubt. Jesse Longmuir kicked his second goal for the match in one of his better performances for the season but it wasn’t enough as the Kangaroos went down by 29 points to the finals bound Eagles

NARRE WARREN 42.21.273 DEF HAMPTON PARK 0.1.1 Narre entered the contest full of confidence are consecutive wins against fellow finals contenders Beaconsfield and Cranbourne. Narre Warren were in need of a massive percentage boost and a percentage boost is what they got. Hampton Park’s only scoring shot came in the first quarter,

a solitary behind. The Magpies put in a faultless first half amassing 26 goals as they led by 163 points at the main change. Narre’s midfield were scintillating and controlled most of the contests. Josh Tonna has once again put his name forward as a candidate for the leagues best and fairest. The Magpies slowed down their scoring rate in the second half as they made personnel changes. The Redbacks had suffered some major hidings during the year but nothing could have prepared themselves for this. Narre had 17 individual goal kickers, nine of them kicked two or more goals while Nick Scanlan and Aaron Wilson combined for 15 goals in their 42 goal, 272 point win at home. The Magpies percentage improved by close to 40% closing the gap on the top three teams.

TOORADIN-DALMORE 15.10.100 DEF DOVETON 15.8.98 One of the matches of the season happened at Westernport Oval as Tooradin took on Doveton. When Taylor Joyce marked and goaled it was The Doves with an early lead. The Seagulls improved their ball movement and found themselves kicking four unanswered goals to early in the second term as they led by 17 points. Doveton knew it was going to be a tough contest and started to work through the midfield with Cam McCartney and Sam Raru winning the football and supplying their forwards with scoring opportunities. The Doves kicked six of the next seven goals and the match saw a 31-point turnaround to have the visitors in front by 14 points in the shadows of halftime. Tooradin’s sharpshooter Andrew Dean got free and booted two late goals to have The Seagulls trailing by only two points at the main change. Dean made it four goals and kicked Tooradin back in front early in the third. Julian Suarez was playing a pivotal role at centre half-forward he kicked a nice long-range goal to extend their lead to 13 points. Three goals in five minutes from the visitors with Josh Bradley kicking his third and The Doves hit the lead again, Deans fifth saw the lead change back favour of The Gulls. Brilliant work from Nick Battle causing a turnover which lead to his second goal for the quarter and Doveton led by 4 points at the last change. With the game still up for grabs, the match still had its own story to write with a frenetic final term. We saw a further four lead changes, Doveton kicked away to a two goal lead early before Tooradin piled on four unanswered goals as it looked like they had done enough but Shannon Henwood was like ice in front of goal and kicked Doveton back in front late in the quarter. It was definitely Andrew Dean’s day, the enigmatic forward was having a day out and got free to kick his eighth goal and provide Tooradin with a dramatic two point win.

BERWICK V TOORADIN-DALMORE

PAKENHAM V NARRE WARREN

Last Time - Round 9 - Tooradin 9.6.60 lost to Berwick 13.14.92

Last Time - Round 7 - Narre Warren 17.15.117 lost to Pakenham 6.14.50

The Berwick juggernaut rolls on again this weekend, the well-oiled Wicker machine had a week off due to the bye and should be primed to finish off the season in style. An Andrew Dean inspired Tooradin got the job done against Doveton coming from behind twice in the last quarter to record a huge win for the club. The Seagulls haven’t been smashed this season, they have shown they’re not too far behind the ladder leaders, a small lapse during the match sees them fall three or four goals quickly behind. Berwick’s last game before their bye was the closest any team has been to Berwick this season with Doveton pushing them to the last kick of the match to secure the four points. Berwick will look to control the midfield contest with the run and carry they have shown throughout their undefeated season. The Seagulls have enough talent on paper to compete with The Wickers whether that happens is a different story. The Seagulls had opportunities in their first encounter after trailing early on. The Wickers will be desperate to continue their rich vein of form and bring up their 14th win of the season. Berwick by 55 points.

Pakenham welcome the barnstorming Narre Warren in what is shaping as another one-sided match at Toomuc Reserve. Pakenham have faced their fair share of adversity during the season, even at times struggled for numbers on the track the end of the season is nigh. Narre have found their mojo at the right time of the season and will be looking to make it four wins on the trot. The Magpies are getting back to their intimidating best having mauled their opposition by an average of 123 points over the past three weeks. It seems Coach Heath Black has the structures right which has provide a new lease of life to some of his experienced brigade. This will be a sit and learn experience for the Lions as they will get an education on what’s required for them to take the next step with their football development. Narre look to have strength right across the ground, Pakenham have shown poise at times across half-back but if last week was any indication The Lions defenders will see plenty of action. Narre will be too good for long periods of the match and win comfortably. Narre by 84 points

HAMPTON PARK V OFFICER Last Time - Round 4 - Officer 20.12.132 def Hampton Park 5.10.40 Hampton Park go into their third last match of the season on the back of their most disappointing loss of the season at the hands of Narre Warren. There isn’t much left to salvage for The Redbacks who have faced their toughest season in recent history. On the other hand Officer have been one of the improved teams this season. Still a few players short from competing with the best sides in the competition, the Kangaroos have an improved game plan and stay in the contest for longer periods. Officer recorded their biggest winning margin of the season against Hampton Park and looking at the current form a similar margin looks to be inevitable. Officer can take their season winning tally of six which is the same amount of wins they finished with last season. It’s going to be interesting to see how the young Redbacks responds to their performance last week, there are some proud young men who are looking to fight out the finish of the season. Officer will be strong in the midfield and should control the contest early setting up their win. Officer by 61 points.

DOVETON V BEACONSFIELD Last Time - Round 6 - Beaconsfield 6.11.47 lost to Doveton 8.8.56 The time is now for both sides as we see Saturday Night Football return to the SEFNL at A.J Robinson Reserve. The atmosphere should be electric as Doveton fifth take on Beaconsfield who are currently sitting in third on the ladder. Doveton won a dour low scoring contest at Holm Park three months ago. The Doves have gone down narrowly in their last two matches, one against Berwick and injuries took their toll against Tooradin last week. Beacy did enough last week to defeat to Officer but will have to bring their best to be a chance of getting the win. The Doves may have to look at a few changes to personnel which could also give the side a bit of freshen up. Both teams have a tough road to the finals but a win here will provide a real psychological boost before a possible elimination final at the end of the season. The game will come down to a midfield battle with possible rain making for an interesting contest. Beacy welcome back Troy McDermott and Josh Dodsworth both will add some experience to the line-up. Doveton haven’t been far away from their eighth win of the season and will be desperate to ensure another finals birth. Doveton by 7 points.

Well we played our first get of jail free card the other week with a last gasp win with only seconds to spare. I for one was packing up our sponsors signs lamenting the loss with us 10 points down kicking into a 5 goal win....at the 28 minute mark of the last quarter. Alas we dug deep, never gave in and kicked 2 very late goals. Great Belief...Great Work The seconds and 19s also payed bravely as both went into the last quarter with small leads against quality opposition who were kicking with the wind.

With the bye last week we should be fresh coming into the Tooradin game at home. They are an improved outfit and coming of a win against Doveton. REMINDER ALL THE JOINT NETTIE AND FOOTY FUCNTION IS ON THE 12TH AUGUST LETS MAKE IT OUR BIGGEST FUNCTION YET

Was a great day for the Tooradin football club last Saturday with the 19s great win over Cranbourne, reserves just went down to Doveton but if they’d kick straight should of one by plenty the the seniors finally showed us a ray of hope with a gutsy win over Doveton the second time this season. I was unable to get to the game but from all accounts the boys were great, coaches made good moves and an enjoyable game by all. Deans awesome effort with eight was outstanding and the great thing was that games gone by that if we got goals behind we were unable to catch up but we did this week and I thank everyone for there efforts. Was great to see our ex president jumping for joy. He obviously enjoyed the day along with all our supporters, and committee. This week we have the real test against the best in our league this year by far in Berwick. We’ll be giving everything we have to get over this fantastic team, I wish the boys luck and let’s hope another close game like last week. Good luck to all teams and the netball girls who are going great gunns. Go girls. “GO GULLS”

Well another tough day at the office on the weekend, howling gale did not assist either. We managed to scrape together a reserves team to put on the park, thanks again to the fella’s putting up their hand to fill in, it is much appreciated by the Club. The seniors had really tough day with Narre being relentless from the first siren. The boys never give up or throw in the towel however we are just not up to to this level at present. Better players on the day J Philpin, B Keyzer, R Smart, H Paul, H Brough & M Penn. Social Notes With annual ball being a success on the weekend, let’s all get behind one of our last functions for the year ‘back to school night’ and have another great night. Ticket includes entry and free jelly shots on arrival. Pre purchased tickets are $15, any tickets purchased at the door will be $20. Make sure you’re all dressed up in your old school uniform đ&#x;“šđ&#x;Ž’đ&#x;Ž“ Saturday August 12th at 7.30pm in Clubrooms.

This week we travel to Hampton Park to play Seniors and Reserves while the Under 19’a play Tooradin at Tooradin. Good luck to all teams and lets hope for some good hard games and hopefully three wins. Last weeks’ games saw the Under 19’s come away with the four points again but at Beaconsfield the Reserves and Seniors weren’t so lucky. The Reserves played some good football but were overrun by a better side on the day. The Seniors put up a good display for Ben Tivendale’s 300th game but in the end the class of Beaconsfield and their better use of the ball proved too much for the Kangaroos to overcome.

Coming up soon we have the Reverse Draw on Saturday 19 August ( final home and away round - we have the bye) at the Social Rooms. Tickets are $150 (admits two people) and are available from players or Committee members. Also, don’t forget the B & D Plumbing Grand Final Eve Panel Show on Friday 29 September featuring Danny Frawley, Rodney Hogg, Ellie Blackburn and comedian Dave Whalen. The show commences at noon and tickets are $50 each and are available from the Club or through Barry O’Loughlin (0488 451050 ) or Nick McLennan (0421 621605). Tickets include food, drinks are at bar prices.

Last week in extremely windy conditions, we ventured to Casey Fields, to play one of the form sides in competition in Cranbourne. The Reserves played well for most of the game, however, with Cranbourne having the aid of the wind in the last quarter, we fell short by 19 points. The Senior side started well in the first quarter. With the aid of the breeze, had a 4 goal lead at quarter time. At half time Cranbourne were 8 points up and we needed to have a big lead at 3/4 time to have a chance of coming away with an upset win. At 3/4 time, we were 10 points down, and during the last quarter, Cranbourne blew the game apart and won by 12 goals. This week is our last home game for season 2017. We thank all of our supporters, members and sponsors for sticking with us during a season that has been tough. We look forward to seeing you all back here next year.

As anticipated Narre’s Ones and Twos accounted for Hampton Park, while our Under 19A had a confidenceboosting 14 point win over top side Beaconsfield to draw level with them on points at the top of the ladder. Our Under 19B couldn’t match Officer’s slick ball movement in the windy conditions and went down by 20 points. Seniors – Narre’s Ones played clinical footy to score a big win over an undermanned opponent, particularly in an incredible 16 goal second quarter. Josh Tonna made it back-to-back ‘best on’ performances, racking up more than 50 possessions for the game; our young ‘ruck star’ Troy Mengler gave us first use all day at the stoppages and won his own footy around the ground; Trent Cody and Joel Zietsman were also in our best. Aaron Wilson (8 goals) and Nick Scanlon (7) benefitted from some laceout delivery from up-field and led our goal tally which featured goals by 17 individuals.

of injuries throughout the squad, our side was pretty inexperienced and Officer had the better of us this season so far but our boys started well with pressure at a high level. Eventually it was Officer who were able to make the most of the breeze and took a 3 goal lead into half time. Narre were able to bring back the lead to just a kick by 3 QT but with Officer finishing with the wind in the last Q they were able to hold on and take away a 20 point victory. Our boys fought hard and competed all day so can be happy with what they produced. Barney Mauot-Agang and James Milovejevic were excellent rotating Ruck and half back roles. Bailey Wardle and Brandon Hogan also played well for Narre.

Reserves – Narre’s Twos also dominated all day to chalk up a 27 goal win. Mitch Cowan (6 goals) played the consummate small-forward’s game, Corie Intveen (4) continued his great recent form and Jordy Flannery (3) was mobile and creative. Brent Urwin, Borno and Andy Vella were also among our best. The win sees our Twos sitting undefeated on top by 10 points and 120%. Under 19A – We played top side Beacy away Saturday in very tough conditions. Kicking into the wind in first quarter the boys were fantastic in holding Beacy up and went in only 2 points down at the first break. After conceding a couple early goals in the second our boys settled and went into half time a goal up. We were able to hold them up in the third with the breeze and finished off well in the last to win by 14 points. Sharpy, Tommy Toner & Pottsy kicked 2 each & best players were Kyle Graham, Jack Flannery, Jake Boccari, Dylan Webber & Tom Toner. Under 19B – Our 19’s B side welcomed Officer this week in what looked like tough, trying conditions for footy with very high winds forecast. With a number

Last weekend our senior and reserve teams heading down to a windy Tooradin whilst our U19’s enjoyed the bye weekend. The reserves headed out to Tooradin in terrible windy conditions and held on to win by 6 points. Jordy played well all day and Pete Dye was damaging up forward. The seniors had another close loss against a determined Tooradin side. Tooradin took the lead early at the end of the first quarter but we managed to be 2 points up by half time. Ned Battle managed to boot 3 majors for the game and again received another best on ground performance. Shannon Henwood and Josh Bradley also providing the goods down the forward line, producing 6 goals between them. Unfortunately we just fell short for the day and Tooradin managed to hold on by 2 points. This weekend we are hosting Beaconsfield in our first of two night match of the season. The times for all games are as follows:

• U17 Red: 2.40pm • D Grade: 3.40pm • C Grade: 4.40pm • B Grade: 5.45pm • A Grade: 7.15pm We would love and appreciate as many volunteers as possible to help out with this weekend’s games. Nights like these do not run without all hands on deck. We also wanted to wish all of our footballers and netballers all the best in heading into this weekend’s round. It’s the business end of the season and it’s amazing to see so many teams sitting so high up on the ladder. Still a long road ahead, lots of hours of training and of course hard work. round 15 netball review

BEACONSFIELD 46 DEF ROC 32 It was a close first quarter as both Beaconsfield and ROC got accustomed to the conditions as they teams were level 7-All at quarter time. The Eagles started to get on top through the midcourt which resulted in Beacy shooting 13 to 5 and led by eight goals at the main change. It was a similar score line in the third term as Beacy once again restricted ROC to only five goals and increased their lead by eight goals as they were in front 33 to 17. ROC fought hard in the final term winning the final quarter 15 to 13 to reduce the final margin to 14 goals going down 32 to 46.

CRANBOURNE 55 DEF PAKENHAM 25 Cranbourne entered their Round 15 encounter with Pakenham with a chance to secure their third finals appearance in the last decade. As we have seen during the season The Lions started well to only trail by one goal at the first break. Tahlia Coates dominated the second term for the home side as they gained control of the match. The Eagles staunch defence restricted The Lions to only three second term goals as they extended their lead to 16 winning the quarter 18-3. Cranbourne have a good group of leaders who have found consistency with their game. Nat Sparks and Sharni Lambden in defence ensured that The Eagles didn’t allow the winless Pakenham back into the contest. Pakenham have shown glimpses of great netball and have improved as the season has worn on. Cranbourne too strong in a commanding 30 goal win.

NARRE WARREN 57 DEF HAMPTON PARK 33 Narre Warren has returned to top of the A Grade ladder with a dominant performance

again Hampton Park at home. The Magpies have returned to their best as the season gets closer to finals. Narre have a stable core of weekly contributors with Erin Clark and Gabby Dwyer continuing to fire. The Magpies restricted The Redbacks to only eight goals in both the first and second quarter and took a 10 goal lead into the main change. Narre were in complete control of the match performing at their best in the third term as they outscored Hampton Park by 10 goals to extend their lead to an unsurmountable 20 with 15 mins to go. The reigning premiers didn’t take their foot off the throttle pushing The Redbacks in the last quarter to shoot 14 goals to 10 and make it nine wins in a row.

TOORADIN-DALMORE 51 LOST TO DOVETON 62 It was a day of celebration for Tooradin with club stalwart Shona Wells playing match 300th senior match as they welcomed Doveton a team they accounted for earlier in the season. A Rahni Samason led Doveton came to be the party poppers as they performed at their ultimate best early in the contest to lead 1810, Samason contributing 14 goals in the first quarter. The Doves controlled the midcourt with Hayley Stewart and Akanisi Seeto combined well, but it was the impact of VNL WA Zali Misfud who was having the biggest impact showing her wares on the wing. The Doves did well to maintain their lead to the main change but opened the game up with a damaging third term. The visitors lead hit 15 before The Seagulls managed to win a quarter and reduce the scoreboard impact to only 11. It was a great performance by Doveton as they are the only team to push the Tooradin defence with Samason finishing the game with 52 of her teams 62 goals.

Round 16 netball preview

BERWICK V TOORADIN-DALMORE Last Time - Round 9 Tooradin 47 def Berwick 44 Berwick come off their bye and face Tooradin who come into the contest after suffering their second loss of the season and losing their position on top of the ladder. It goes to show how tight the netball A Grade competition really is and I’m sure Berwick will take plenty of confidence and self-belief that if they bring their A-Game then they can really compete against Tooradin. The Seagulls shouldn’t be too alarmed with every team in the competition wanting to improve before finals and they still have some work to do. The Wickers have grown as the season has continued and should be proud of their achievements and know they still have to continue to work hard to ensure they finish off the season well. Tooradin have had consistent performers at each position and will make it difficult for the young Wickers to play their style of netball. If Tooradin get an early lead it might be too much of a task for Berwick to get in front. Tooradin by 5 goals.

HAMPTON PARK V ROC

PAKENHAM V NARRE WARREN Last Time - Round 7 Narre Warren 59 def Pakenham 30 The winless Lions welcome the ladder leading Magpies. There is a complete contrast between the two sides as Pakenham are working towards their first win of the season while Narre Warren is looking to extend their winning streak to 10 games. Pakenham have definitely improved unfortunately it’s hasn’t been reflected on the ladder. Keely Wright in the defence and Carly Saunders on the wings have taken their games to new levels this season and will be looking to bring their best to put pressure on their opposition. The Narre core is where they find their consistency. They have a brilliant mix of talent and experience which sees them firming as the team to beat as we inch closer towards the finals. If Britt Mashado controls the middle ensuring Gabby Dwyer and Tayla Shannon get enough supply they will be a difficult opponent to stop. Narre by 21 goals.

DOVETON V BEACONSFIELD

Last Time - Round 4 ROC 35 lost to Hampton Park 43

Last Time - Round 6 Beaconsfield 50 def Doveton 39

Hampton Park will want to win to break the run of three matches without a win. The Redbacks were a team many expected to be fighting out for a spot in the finals but find themselves two and a half games outside the Top-5. ROC have improved over the past month picking up points against Cranbourne and Pakenham. Mel Overdyk is returning to her best with support from Gemma Stacey and Ash Barnett in the middle the girls have been solid contributors to prevent the season from being a complete writeoff. A win here for ROC would leave them only one game behind sixth which isn’t a bad result for a team that struggled during the middle part of the season. Hampton Park shouldn’t be too disappointed with their season their results show the evenness of the competition and they have some work to do to close the gap on the Top-5 during the pre-season. This result could go down to the wire with ROC to cause an upset and win at Robert Booth. ROC by 2.

Doveton knew they were in for a hard run home into finals playing the four sides above them on the ladder. Well they took down the ladder leaders Tooradin away last week and will be full confidence taking on Beaconsfield this week. Rahni Samason is the most inform attacking option in the competition and will be tough work for Beacy defenders Danielle Cameron and Brit Tyers. The Doves welcomed back Zali Misfud from VNL commitments her availability could shape the outcome of the match. With CoCaptain Jasmine Jones sidelined with injury the Eagles will be looking for Rylee Neilson to continue with her dazzling form. Beacy haven’t been playing as well as they did earlier in the season does that leave them vulnerable against a team full of confidence. If Doveton win this it will throw the premiership race wide open. Doveton to win in a close one at home by 3 goals.

What an eventful day we had at the seagull nest last week! Thank you to all who contributed to celebrating Shona’s 300th game. Despite a disappointing loss we had a great time celebrating such a huge achievement. C grade managed a comfortable and controlled win putting them back in the top five. Keep that momentum going girls and you will really shake up the finals series! We also saw many junior achievements. Ebony Mason had her first run in B grade and managed to smash out a best on court performance! Well done Ebony. Our U13 Red team took out a 3 goal win over a tough Doveton side. This was a significant win that puts the girls into third position on the ladder. This is a huge achievement as we haven’t had a junior team in finals for some years and these girls have not only snuck in, but have worked their way to third which means a double chance come finals time. Keep working hard girls and best of luck in the coming games to keep that position. Game of the day though belonged to our wonderful U13’s White. These girls took out their first win for the season being only the second win in the last 5 years! Coaches Trish and Jayne have worked hard to give these girls skills and confidence and they have shown massive improvement with every game played this season. Yesterday’s win was reward for all their hard work and they not only won but smashed it with a score of 29 goals (their highest score) to 12!!!! The whole club is so proud of you all! Over all a pretty good day with our juniors in particular shining and showing us glimpses of a very exciting future ahead. This week sees us take on Berwick with some much needed wins on the line. Best of luck to all teams! Go Seagulls!

With only three games left for the club, we look forward to today’s last home game for the 2017 SEFNL season. On behalf of the club we sincerely thank all those that help during the season but especially for the work that goes into hosting home games. From the early morning set up to pack up at the end of the day, your contribution is very valued and appreciated and we couldn’t do it without you all working as one team – so a huge big THANK YOU! This week at our last home game, the PFC and PLNC are holding a luncheon for those families in our clubs that have lost loved ones this year. It is our way to reach out and let them know that we are here for them. We are extremely proud of every player that wears our uniform, and we thank them for their commitment to training and games this year. Congratulations to our U13 White, U15 White and U17 White teams who will all make 2017 finals. We are extremely proud of you, and the club is right behind you all in your final’s campaign.

Thank you to our 2017 Sponsors Thank you to our 2017 Sponsors

For the second week in a row, our netballers faced extremely windy conditions. Despite the uncomfortable weather, we managed a clean sweep with eight wins. The young Narre North Foxes played prior to A Grade and were given a taste of outside netball! Congratulations to Tracey Dell, Tayla Hammond, Carly Stagg and Ashleigh Stephenson who played their 100th game with NWFNC. 13R: NW 29 def HP 12 BOC: Courtney, Mackenzie & Emma Our 13s girls did well to convert 29 goals in the blistering conditions. A strong second half set up a convincing win. 15R: NW 26 def HP 16 BOC: Amy B, Kira, Ruby & Chloe The girls had to dig deep to shake off a persistent Hampton Park. Strong defence and difficult conditions helped to create many turnovers, which NW took advantage of. 17R: NW 61 def HP 10 BOC: Kacey & Chloe With a challenge set each quarter, the 17 Red side focused on achieving their goals. A super high score on a day that was not ideal for goaling. 17W: NW 46 def HP 6 A fantastic defensive effort by the 17 White girls to limit HP to six goals. They rewarded the hard work with an impressive 46 goals at the other end. D: NW 35 def HP 14 BOC: Hayley R, Tayla B, Holli & Ash D Grade regained almost all of their team this week and looked in control for the four quarters. C: NW 45 def HP 30 BOC: Kate, Donna, Maddy & Chels After a slow start, C Grade gained the lead and then continued to build. Maddy showed her versatility swinging into the defence end and combining well with Donna. B: NW 46 def HP 28 BOC: Holly, Jayde & Amy B Grade scored at a steady rate for four quarters in the gusty wind. The defensive effort in the final quarter was outstanding, limiting HP to only four goals. A: NW 57 def HP 33 BOC: Tayla, Erin, Britt & Tracey A Grade controlled this match from the first quarter, stretching their lead as the game went on. Thank you to our Match Day sponsors: Jay Q Plastering, Inspire Sports Group, Tru Plumbing, McGill Family, Fountain Gate Bingo, South East Tattoo Removal, P3 Sports & Recovery, Mongelli Constructions, Aly Heinze, Subway Narre Warren & Fountain Gate Panels. Under 15s, today we had a few goals to aim for and we did accomplish that. Good solid game today from every player. Keep up the drive you all showed today. Well done girls Under 17s White, we had a rough start from the minute we started warm up. Unfortunately having 4 sick players, a few fill ins and an injury in the first quarter, we just couldn’t buy any luck. However, we did achieve our goal of bettering our score from the last time we played Narre Warren, which is an achievement in itself. Under 17s Red, you girls in the first half busted your chops today and I was so impressed. With a few girls out again this week, luckily enough having some under 15’s come up and help out (thank you girls). Second half definitely showed everyone was tires and no more pressure down the court. Best on court Bianca and Taleisha you honestly killed it today putting you in many different positions. D grade, Good effect today in really tough conditions. Narre Warren showed why they are top of the ladder team.

But you kept your heads up and fought the game out all the way to the finish. C grade, we had a great start unfortunately dropping every quarter after that we need to focus on playing as a team and working together cause when we do we’re unstoppable. Best on Nicole, you did everything I asked you to do, and it showed in the last half. Special mention to Jacinta what a game in WA you had, so much patience and your feeds were amazing. B grade, Didn’t go the way we wanted. Fell behind the 8 ball from the start and weren’t able to pull it back. Conditions were probably the worst we have experienced matched with a top side. Skye another great performance your confidence grows stronger and stronger every time you step out on court. A grade, 2nd and last quarter we matched the premiers from last year unfortunately dropping the other 2 by too much and we couldn’t catch them. Well down to Shannesy shutting down their WA, best on Brooke not the best week at the courts but let’s focus on next week against ROC.

Last weekend we travelled down to Tooradin ready for a windy day of Netball. We would like to thank Tooradin for their hospitality for the day. U13 Red: A cracker of a game, from losing by 15 the first time we played Tooradin to going down by 3 with only 6 of our team was an amazing achievement. No matter the score I’m always one very proud coach. U13 Whites: Another big week for my superstars under 13white this week we showed up with 7 players but once again my girls showed how tough they were and took the court heads held high. We started off strong, worked hard to keep the scores as low as possible but unfortunately my girls got tired. As a team we take to the court each and every week knowing where in for a hard game but we keep going right to the last siren this is what I love most about my girls. U15 Red: First time in a long time we had all 9 players fit and healthy. We knew Tooradin wouldn’t back down and a credit to them, they have improved out of site since we last reversed the. Our girls had some fun, moving around the court and came away with another great team win. The next 3 remaining game will be massive ladies! Go the baby doves! U15 White: Second win for the season well done girls! We played as a team and encouraged each other to the end! Our defence end lead by TJ was outstanding getting plenty of intercepts to allow our goalers plenty of chances! Super proud of u girls keep it up.

A Grade: Well Well Well. Had a nice warm up, and came out firing. Great passing, Great enthusiasm, saw us with a lead at 1/4 time...working hard and great team work We go in with a lead at 1/2 time.. Girls with great work rate. Asked for a big effort and for girls to keep intensity up Rahni and Chelsea finished of our good work, last 1/4 and we play the complete game. Super proud of all 8 girls. Great team effort, and remember when we play together as a team anything is possible. A huge day for our ladies on court producing 6/10 wins for the day. A Grade pulling off the win of the round in a game that looked to be ours from the start! And D Grade doing it the tough way, but came away with also another ripping win. Whilst our babies doves earlier in the day had amazing wins across both the 17’s and the 15’s. It was the confidence the club needed before heading into finals. Next weekend we welcome Beaconsfield in our first night matched for the season. Go Doves!!

U17 Red: Well Well Well Today Thought I had 10 then down to 9, then played with 8.... Started of slow, took us to the last quarter to get where our energy and intensity needs to be.. Last quarter was what I’ll be looking for next week.... Attitude again letting some of us down...Have a great week J.B. Out!!!! U17 Whites: Good Game last week girls. Some very good team work and sportsmanship was displayed and that’s all you really want as a coach oh and a win. Well done! D Grade: Last weekend was make or break for the girls. We started off and took the lead early. Making the correct leads to the ball, goalers moving well and our defence was on fire once again. Tooradin wasn’t going away though and managed to level early in the last quarter. But to our credit, we capitalised when we needed it and came away with a 4 goal win! Awesome team effort. Let’s keep it up for the rest of the year ladies.

A Grade put in a lackluster performance, the 1st qtr was a disappointing start. We failed to capitalise on opposition errors, & only shot 7 goals in 15mins. Some changes at qtr time changed the direction of the game, we started to take control & put some pressure on the opposition. The last qtr wasn’t how we’d like to finish off, but it was a reflection of the state of play for the whole game. Well done to Brianna Pratt from U17’s for making her A Grade debut, & Charlotte Petelinek playing her 2nd game. Awards: Dani for a fantastic game, Brit for her best game of the season, & Brianna for her influence on the game when she came on. B Grade-Beacy continued their winning run in windy conditions, both teams were tentative in attack with Beacy showing patient & clinical play. Awards: Kelly, Courtney & Danielle.

13 Red-Today’s game was our hardest this season. With the extreme weather conditions of cold winds & the defensive strength of ROC, we unfortunately couldn’t find our momentum. Although we did passages of great play it was not enough for us today. Awards: Tahlia, Kasey & Holly. 13 White-Wind, wind, wind! It played a major influence on the game. Adjusting to the conditions tested the players & the coach as Beacy’s natural flowing game changed dramatically. On a pleasing note, all players were committed to defensive pressure & made it difficult for ROC, particularly in the 2nd qtr as we kept them goalless. We played intense netball for 4 qtrs, which saw a 4 goal straight patch in the final qtr & a nine goal lead on the final siren. All players were presented with an award this week for being determined & having a positive mindset no matter what occurs during a game.

C Grade-In windy conditions, it made it difficult for both sides to keep control of the ball. We had a slow 1st half falling behind on the scoreboard, but we managed to make changes & reset ourselves for the 2nd half with a fast running game finishing on top in the end. Great to see every player playing some part in the win & due to a huge team effort, no players were singled out so we will hold over the awards to next week! D Grade-Back at home, conditions for the day were rough for netball with extreme winds causing lots of problems for the goalers. Our girls put in a great team game with the goalers working their way around the wind, midcourters passing & moving was spot on & defenders winning a lot of rebounds causing turnovers. Awards: Em, Maddie K & T. 17 Red-Even under the blustery conditions, Danni & Em P’s goaling still managed to remain extremely accurate. Paige & Teneille’s timely intercepts provided the opportunity for our midcourt to transition effectively into our attack end. Awards: Em, Eb & Paige. 17 White-The girls were looking forward to a great battle! They came out strong & took a nice lead into the 1st qtr. We applied full court defensive pressure, led by GD Hanna which saw the girls create turnovers that gave them more attacking opportunity in such windy conditions. Awards: Hanna, Mackenzie & Bree. 15 Red-In very windy conditions the team struggled to get shots in the entire game. A strong defence saw the ball turnover in our favour, but then intercepted by a strong ROC defence. A disappointing loss, the girls will regroup & fight back next week. Awards: Maxine, Mikayla & Chelsea 15 White had a slow start which was played in very windy conditions. We managed to regroup at 1/2 time but we just couldn’t pull back the difference on the scoreboard. It was a better finish to our game compared to the start, and we will work on these things at training. Awards: Chloe, Paige & Sophie W.
