ANZAC Day Round Hot on the heels of an Easter weekend which saw big crowds across the Leagues, we have another extended round to commemorate ANZAC Day. In a stand alone fixture on ANZAC Day itself, Mt Eliza and Mornington will pay tribute to the fallen ANZACS with a full service before the game. Clubs across the weekend will also have variations of the theme to pay respects to those lost in wars over the generations. ANZAC Day is the anniversary of the landing of troops from Australia and New Zealand on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey on April 25 1915. The ceremonies that take place on ANZAC Day remember the lives of those who died in military action. Football plays its part in ensuring the ANZAC tradition is maintained. Watch out for Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Rosebud in their commemorative ANZAC Day jumpers. Local Boys selected The hopes of several local boys aiming for an AFL career have been enhanced, with selection in the TAC Vic Country U18 squad. The following boys (with their junior clubs in brackets) have been selected in the preliminary squad.

Hunter Clark (Mornington), Oscar Clavarino (Berwick), Aaron Darling (Crib Point), Luke Davies-Uniacke (Rye), Tom De Koning (Mornington), Sam Fletcher (Red Hill), Bailey Morrish (Beaconsfield), Angus Patterson (Mornington), Mitchell Riordan (Beaconsfield), Bailey Schmidt (Seaford), Bailey Williams (Crib Point) and Lachlan Young (Mt Eliza) Good luck to all the boys as they press for a spot in the final squad. The NAB U18 Championships commence on June 11. Frankston Dolphins Mornington Peninsula Clubs received a financial boost this week with the announcement that a Frankston Dolphins sponsor would contribute $2,000 to each MPNFL Club, in return for Highgrove Bathrooms signage at their ground. Gary Buckenara (Manager) and the Dolphins Committee are not only working hard to get a VFL licence returned to Frankston, but also to engage more with community football in the area. AFL South East wishes them well in their quest. Best of luck to all clubs this weekend.

AFL South East “Club Support – Community Program” AFL South East and MRC (Melbourne Racing Club) Foundation have joined forces to develop the “Club Support – Community Program”, which is designed to provide AFLSE and MPFNL (Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League) Clubs with the training, development and support in areas of concern within the community regularly faced by the Clubs such as youth suicide, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health and other social and behavioural issues. Partnering with program providers SALT (Sport and Life Training) and SCA (Sports Chaplaincy Australia) the specific aim of “Club Support – Community Program” is to develop a leadership and welfare culture within AFLSE and MPFNL Clubs to help drive behavioural change and provide support in a sustainable and ongoing manner. SALT will provide specific training in those areas of concern identified by clubs. SCA, through the ClubCare Access program, will respond to critical incidents occurring in clubs, and offer the opportunity to all clubs to have a dedicated sports chaplain. AFLSE Region General Manager, John Anderson said, “This is a most significant initiative introduced for the benefit of the League and its Clubs”.

“Our Clubs face regular challenges that require great sensitivity and expertise regarding the social and personal welfare of their members. It is incumbent upon all Clubs to provide a safe and positive environment for all their players and volunteers, while the SALT Program will concentrate on developing this culture and environment and the Chaplaincy Program will provide the one on one support for individuals who experience personal hardship.” MRC Foundation Chairman, Patricia Faulkner AO said, “the MRC Foundation is pleased to be supporting the establishment of this Club Support – Community Program focusing on the wellbeing and welfare of an at-risk demographic in the local community of several of MRC’s operations including Mornington Racing Club, Steeples, The Cove and The Grand.” The outcomes of the Club Support – Community Program in 2017 are: • 11 MPFNL Clubs to undertake the SALT ‘Healthy Club’ Program • Introduce 22 MPFNL Clubs to the ‘ClubCare Access’ SCA Program There is an online application process on the AFLSE website. Further communication will occur directly with clubs to participate.

WorkSafe Game of the Month returns! A number of community football clubs in regional Victoria will welcome the return of the WorkSafe Game of the Month in season 2017. This year is set to be bigger and better than ever, with eight exciting WorkSafe Games of the Month planned in leagues across the state with our first event kicking off in the South West Football Netball League on April 30. Now in its 15th year, the WorkSafe Game of the Month centres around traditional grudge matches between country football and netball club rivals and attract large crowds of fervent supporters. WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country partners with Netball Victoria to bring some of football’s and netball’s biggest names to the matches to meet the locals and share their sporting stories, with current-day AFL player Ambassadors, football personalities and the likes of AFL champions Russell Robertson, David Parkin and Peter Knights set to appear in season 2017. Spectators can enjoy the local atmosphere with a host of family-friendly activities including football and netball themed inflatables, face painting and giveaways, plus see your face on the big screen with the WorkSafe LED truck scoreboard.

Another highlight is the National Anthem prior to the game sung by a local identity and the post-match presentations where our WorkSafe Ambassadors will present the sought-after WorkSafe Trophy and best on ground medal. Just as WorkSafe is committed to supporting country football in Victoria, so too are they committed to its vision of making sure every Victorian returns home safely every day. Lest We Forget They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them For our freedom they said. And for our freedom they did. 102 years ago, men, women, boys and girls embarked on a quest to not only aid “the Mother Country” but also establish an Australian reputation and identity. An identity that would be recognised and respected the world over. “What happened to the open landing to provide an ambush on very easy terms?” Instead confronted by towering cliffs, dead-end gullies and dense low scrub these men found the Turk reinforcements rushing up in strength as if prepared. Brothers, sons, husbands, fathers and mates fell all around as the hills became wild and bloody. Sisters, daughters, wives, mothers and friends did all they could to tend for the wounded. Then they dug. Trenches lined the edges of the battlefield. And for the next 8 months the ANZACs stood firm. It was there that the Australian identity was born. Sacrifice, doggedness, mateship and courage in the face of almost certain death. It’s not about the size of the dog but the size of the bark in the dog. And the size of that bark gave a young nation a story and a spirit to be proud of. Many died young. Some would say as just a boy or a girl. But no man or woman who went to war, who saw the horrors of the world, and tried to fight them could ever be considered just a mere boy or a simple girl. Instead they were folk whose spirit continues to live on in the blood of every Australian.

On ANZAC day we celebrate the spirit of those who fought for our place in the world on the Gallipoli Peninsula. We also celebrate the survival of that spirit. We step back and appreciate and thank those who continue to stand up and fight. Those who protect us and shield us for the dangers of the growing world. Those would embody the spirit of the ANZACs. For all that they do for us the very least we can do I step back every once in a while and remember them.

We will remember them.

What a weird weekend of footy over 2 weeks. As the storms picked up, umpires at all venues called the games off at three quarter time due to severe weather conditions with a risk to players and supporters in week one. All 3 games results were already decided with Berwick, Beaconsfield and Narre in winning positions. Berwick dismantled Cranbourne in the grand final re-match, Beaconsfield were putting Tooradin to the sword while Narre kicked away from a determined Officer. Fast Forward to Good Friday with Russell Robertson and Daniel Ward in toe, the Redbacks welcomed the rampaging Doveton to the traditional Good Friday clash. A huge crowd turned out to support the great day at Hampton Park, but they witnessed the Taylor Joyce Show, with the spearhead kicking 11 goals.

BERWICK 10.10.70 DEF CRANBOURNE 3.5.23 The tone was set early, with Berwick kicking with an aid of a breeze kicked the first 2 goals from inspirational leader Madi Andrews. Cranbourne couldn’t get themselves into the game with Berwick running harder and had numbers at every contest. Cranbourne’s playmakers couldn’t find the space they’ve come accustomed to. The premiers trailed by 14 points at quarter-time. Berwick seemed to have the answer to everything their nemesis had installed. Berwick’s defence was rock sturdy with Riley Heddles playing his best game for the club shutting out Cranbourne’s live wire recruit Khaled Kandakji. Cranbourne was held goalless in the second quarter as Berwick continued to run harder and outplay their opposition. The Eagles performance was spiritless and un-Cranbourne like. Cranbourne have always managed to work themselves into the contest but the day was not theirs as they were behind by 36 points. Berwick’s press restricting Cranbourne to one of their lowest scores in recent times, The Eagles had no answers trailing by 47 points before the game was called off.

BEACONSFIELD 12.11.83 DEF TOORADIN 3.4.23 Beaconsfield got off to the perfect start with 16 year old debutant Devon Smith kicking a goal with his first kick in senior footy. Tooradin rued inaccurate kicking in front of goal as Beacy kicked 3 goals before Kris Sabbatucci kicked the Seagulls first to reduce the margin at the first change. Troy McDermott used every ounce of his experience to kick 2 unanswered goals as the Eagles extended their lead to 21 points. Beacy’s tough defensive press and hard two-way running strangled Tooradin who struggled to get into the contest. Patrick Chin popped up and kicked the visitors’ second goal in the shadows of halftime to reduce the margin to 24 points. The 2015 premiers assumed control again early in the third as Tooradin continued to relent under the pressure. Beacy kicked 5 of the next 6 goals and were in front by 53 points with a quarter to go. As the weather closed in at Holm Park, Tooradin’s dark day was over simply outmatched which confirms The Gulls have a lot of work to be competitive against the best sides in the competition going down by 10 goals before the game was called off.

OFFICER

OFFICER 6.4.40 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 10.12.72 Officer faced the acid test by welcoming Narre Warren, the latter playing their first match of the season. The expectations for the outsiders was for Officer to take steps forward this season and for patches throughout the match the showed how far they have come as a football club. Officer were competitive for the first half of play restricting their fancied rivals with tough play at the contest. The conditions was making it difficult for both sides to play their brand of football. 13 points separated the teams at the half. Quick goals to resume the second half to the home team reduced the margin to only 1 point as the home crowd could sense a massive upset was on the cards. Narre’s midfield stars started assume control around the stoppages ensuring their forwards were in the best position to score. Nick and Stewart Scanlon enjoyed their return combining 6 goals with a couple coming during the third as Narre kicked 5 goals to 2 in the premiership quarter as the visitors took a 32 point lead into the last change. Narre looked to have the game in control when the umpires decided to call off the remaining last quarter due to safety concerns.

GOOD FRIDAY HAMPTON PARK 5.4.34 LOST TO DOVETON 25.19.169 Good Friday football was the standalone match over the Easter Weekend and what a spectacle it was. Doveton came out of the blocks early and there was ominous signs the contest could be over early on. Former Eagle Taylor Joyce put his stamp on the contest kicking back-to-back goals within 5 minutes of play The Doves led by 3 goals. High-flying Russell Robertson brought the home crowd to its feet with a spectacular grab and goal to give the Redbacks some hope. Hampton Park had no answer to Rus Gabriel’s dominance in the ruck. Gabriel was too big and too strong providing first use of the footy to his fleet footed brigade of midfielders. Michael Henry’s rich vein of form continued with his hard running and precise disposal bringing his teammates into the contest. Hampton Park’s endeavour to the contest never waived. Although out matched at times the Redbacks were working hard and continued to put their bodies on the line. An 8 goal to 1 second quarter for Doveton Joyce Joyce was enjoying a day out kicking 5 to take his first half haul to 8 goals. The third quarter was a lot closer contest with both teams kicking 1 goal. There were some promising signs for first year coach Dean Warren to work with as Hampton Park continued to put their heads over the footy. With the result beyond doubt, the last quarter turned into a rout with Doveton kicking 9 goals to 2 and winning by 135 points.

CRANBOURNE (4TH 1-1) V TOORADIN (6TH 1-1) Cranbourne come into the ANZAC weekend after a hiding at the hands of Berwick. Cranbourne have experienced highs and lows to start their 2017 campaign and will be looking avenge their round 2 loss. Tooradin find themselves in a similar position having put in 2 contrasting performances after a good win in round 1 and were disappointing last week away at Beaconsfield. This game was the traditional ANZAC Day game match but due to fixturing constraints will be played on the Saturday before. Tooradin will bring in many new faces who will be facing their toughest task of the season. In recent years The Eagles class has risen and put pressure on the Seagulls both in the contest and on the scoreboard. Their disappointing loss in round 2 shows the premiers still have a lot of work to do to defend their premiership of last season. Cranbourne will be looking to rebuild their momentum and put in an impressive performance at home. Cranbourne by 47 points

NARRE WARREN (3RD 1-0) V BEACONSFIELD (5TH 1-1) Narre Warren play their first home game for the season and will look to build on their strong second half against Officer. The fiercest of rivals there will be plenty at stake for the match of the round. First year Coach Leigh McQuillen has brought in a new focus on defence and is trying to adopt a strong full ground press to strangle their opposition into submission while capitalising on turnovers to hit the scoreboard. Narre coach Heath Black pulled on the boots for the first time last week and will look to lead his charges into battle once again. The Magpies welcomed back premiership hero Nick Scanlon who looks to have not missed a beat with his time away from the club. They have a deep midfield of big bodied experienced campaigners who continuously rise to occasion of big matches and will do-so again as they look to etch a win against another finals contender. You can expect a Beacy to be in the contest for a long time as we saw against Berwick in round 1 but may just lack the polish to get the job done away from home. Narre Warren by 22 points.

HAMPTON PARK (9TH 0-2) V BERWICK (1ST 2-0) Scoreboards only reflect so much, Hampton Park have had a tough start to 2017. Sitting on the bottom with a percentage under 17% some would say it’s going to be a long season, but the Redbacks showed enough on Good Friday this team is on the improve. New coach Dean Warren looks to be the right person to take this team forward. There was plenty to like about the approach and the endeavour with better structures and ball movement with time the Redbacks will improve. Berwick received a major confidence boost with their shellacking handed out to rivals Cranbourne before the horrendous weather hit. Berwick has been a tough task in recent years for Hampton Park, their bigger bodies and quick ball movement is hard to curtail for any side in the competition especially for a side in the development stages. A second home game in a row is a bonus for Hampton Park but it won’t be enough to stop the Berwick juggernaut. Berwick by 97 points.

PAKENHAM (7TH 0-1) V OFFICER (8TH 0-2) This is a huge contest in terms of the clubs fortune going forward. Pakenham have had a difficult start to their season but things could turn around quickly with a rumoured late recruitment drive bringing in new blood to restock the Lions as they surge forward with their campaign. Officer on the other hand have opened the season playing against 2 teams who have played finals in successive season. The Kangaroos have shown glimpses of what to expect with the team adapting to new coaching principles. The Roos have been competitive in all their matches this season, if they put in a four quarter performance they could test the Lions who struggled in their only match to date. A win here for either team will propel their season forward and provide a massive confidence to a side desperate for a taste of victory. Going on form alone it looks like Officer has the slight edge and should win. Officer by 18 points.

After a very disappointing lose to Beaconsfield at all levels we now face the challenge of Cranbourne away. A daunting task at anytime. The boys need to get in there heads that all teams that play together win together. They need to believe that they can win and give themselves a chance. We have some good ins this week but will face an angry Cranbourne after they lost. We are still short on some under 19s so if there are any players looking to play a game please get in touch with the coach. Danial Conroy. Looking forward to our traditional match this year for ANZAC day to be held on the Saturday as the fixtures wouldn’t allow for it to be played on the day. Good luck to all. Hope there are no injuries. Regards Greg Kelly.

In passing we had the funeral of one of our greats though the week in Mick Riley. He was an outstanding family man and the best clubman any club would be proud of, we’re all going to miss Mick, and I must say it was one of the best funerals I’ve ever been to. All should be congratulationd that spoke it was a great send off. Condolences to the family. “GO GULLS”.

Narre had three solid wins last round against Officer in our Ones, Twos and Under 19 A; while our Under 19 B were impressive in a narrow loss to Pakenham. Seniors – The signs against a well-drilled Officer were all positive for the Narre faithful. Our back half held tough under pressure, as they had done in our practice matches and kept Officer on a rein when they were favoured by a strong wind. The addition of ball-getters Jack Wheeler and Nathan Allen to Narre’s midfield provided spark, and will give the ‘old firm’ of Col McNamara, Quirky and Collo great support. And our forward line looks potent. Coach Heath Black, playing his first game in a Narre jumper said his boys played an exciting brand of footy in difficult conditions. “There was some great ball movement to our dangerous forward line, with the Scanlon boys – Nick and Stewie – leading and marking well for 6 of the teams ten goals, and Staggy chipping in for a couple.” When Narre’s Round 2 Reserves side to play Officer was announced in the Social Club on the Thursday before the match, many seasoned supporters remarked that it one of the strongest sides had seen , a 15 goal win in its first hit-out was an emphatic start. A core group of players with senior experience like Trent Papworth, Andrew Hunter, Andy Vella, Daniel Borninkhof and Dean Scanlon took control of the game early while Dutchy Holland, Brent Urwin, Nathan Alliotta and Mickey Milo were good contributors. Under 19 A - Narre’s Under 19 A side got the jump, kicking with a strong breeze and led Officer by 46 points at quarter time. Officer fought back with four goals of its own in the second term, but Narre’s big start enabled us to take the game on. Our run and carry, coupled with long kicking to our targets suggests coach Grubbo’s boys are going to be a very ‘watchable’ combination worth getting down early to catch. Narre showed its superior fitness,

keeping Officer goalless in the last quarter and finishing off with an 11-goal victory. Kyle Grigg (4 goals), Paddy Andrews (3) and James Milivojevic (3) were Narre’s major goalkickers and were also among our best. Under 19 B – Narre’s Under 19 B side took on a fit and well-structured Pakenham side full of confidence after their big Round 1 win. Narre were looking to improve on a slightly disappointing start to their 2017 season. Windy conditions made scoring difficult at both ends and there was never more than 3 goals separating the teams throughout the game. Pakenham showed a bit more poise under pressure and gained the upper hand late in the game to hold us out by 15 points. Mark Bartuccio continued his solid start to the season, in-and-under at most stoppages, tackling well and our only multiple goalkicker with 2. Tyson Graham, Dylan Mutimer and Leigh Tannahill were also in Narre’s best. Social Notes – Narre’s Past Players, Supporters and Committee Day is at our Round 5 home game v Berwick on Saturday 6 May in the Social club at Fox Road. All are welcome - $20 entry includes beer, wine and finger food from 1 pm. Narre’s annual 2017 Berwick Mazda Corporate Lunch is on Friday 19 May, midday to 4.30 pm in the Jewell Room at the Fountain Gate Hotel. The starstudded line-up features tiger legend and media personality Matthew Richardson; former Aussie Test speedster and controversial commentator Rodney Hogg , and comedian Dave O’Neil. Bookings essential. Tickets are $120 and include meal with beer, wine and soft drinks. Memorabilia auctions and raffles. Our U19’s, Reserves & Seniors all finished with the 4 points last week against Tooradin. Well done to all our players. Thanks to our U19’s coach for supplying this summary of their game. U19s v Tooradin Great effort to all involved at Tooradin Football Club in fielding an U19 team for 2017.

It’s free and delivers all the news straight to your phone via notifications. How easy is that!! You can also visit our Website: beaconsfieldfc.teamapp.com Please support our club sponsors in appreciation for their support of our club.

The Beaconsfield side came across a determined Tooradin side, who although were outclassed on the day, didn’t let it deter them by playing out the entire game in good spirit. Overall a strong team effort by Beaconsfield, with several of the squads performances indicating their desire to be included in future games against stronger opposition. Cheers Youngy Last week we made some historic club announcements at our Presidents breakfast. The goals at the far end of the ground were named after Life Member Charles Doro and our pavilion was named after Life Member & past President Peter Evans. Both announcements were big surprises for the recipients with lots of emotion in the room as their contribution to the club was celebrated. Our first social function for the year will be on Saturday 29th April so save the date. More details will be announced shortly. Our Annual Ladies lunch is on Saturday 6th May and will be raising money for Peter McCallum Cancer Research. Tickets on sale soon. Good Friday saw us host Doveton FNC in our annual good friday game. The weather for the afternoon games was kind to us with the early morning drizzle clearing up. An excellent crowd turned up on the day. Doveton proved too strong in both seniors and reserves on the day and ran out comfortable winners. Better players in the Reserves were: M Cashin, D Aisling, J Warry, A Miles & M Phouttanouvong. Better players in the seniors were: CJ Layfield, J Craig, J Philpin, S Walsh, A Holden & P Bastin. We would like to thank Russell Robertson and Daniel Ward for playing on the day, also to Russell & Phil Cebrano big thank you for the after game entertainment which was thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you also to the numerous volunteers who are too many to mention who helped out on the day. Without your help the day would not have been the success that it was. Milestone Games Congratulations to Bryce Keyzer who plays his 50th game today, well done Bryce. Social. What a day in football it was last week. Started off as a shorts and t shirt day and finished like a mid July shocker. Even had the lights on before the game was pre-maturely ended due to lightning. Should never have gone back out after the first break but as they say, nothing common about Common Sense Never the less it should not diminish what was a sensational win by the Senior team who were in control the entire time. A miserly defence, gut running mid field and a mobile forward line provided for a comfortable win. Even contribution from all was the hi-lite. The seconds also recorded a fantastically strong win. The ball movement through the midfield and into the wind was the best I had seen for a while. Great even team effort also.

The thirds again showed glimpses of what they are capable of when they work together. A win is just around the corner and I feel that will be the catalyst they need to show what this bunch of young boys can achieve. A great day was also had in the coterie tent by our loyal band of sponsors. Football in front of you and Sydney Races behind you. Doesn’t get any better! Reminder the Casino Night is not far away. REMINDER Buy a seat. We have 150 new seats on there way and for $70 you can have your name on the seat. Today, the Pakenham and Officer football clubs, will mark our Anzac Day Weekend with a local derby on the sporting field, honouring those who fought and died during war times. While our efforts pale in comparison to those Diggers who set foot on battlegrounds throughout our history, the courage, strength, blood and sweat will be on show as the traditional rivals go head to head on this afternoon. Many soldiers from the Pakenham/Officer areas and fought in World Wars I and II, never to return. The significance of their sacrifice won’t be lost on the 44 men who go to war today’s Anzac Day Weekend Clash at Pakenham. It’s part of our Anzacs’ sacrifice that they’re able to play footy on the weekend. COMEDY HYPNOTIST NIGHT “TONIGHT” Comedy Hypnotist, Gerard Verschuren, will conduct the Comedy Hypnotist show at the football club tonight. The event will see a number of audience participants placed under hypnotic spells to entertain the audience. The event is to commence at 7.30 pm and the dress is smart casual. Cost is $30 per head with light finger food provided. Tickets are available at the door tonight. Welcome to all our sponsors, members, supporters and players to the ANZAC Day round for 2016. Today we honour the servicemen and women who have served their country in times of war, many of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice. We also welcome the RSL members attending the game today. Today we play Pakenham on their own turf and look forward to a day of hard competitive football. In Round 2 we hosted Narre Warren in front of a very good crowd. The U19’s found the going fairly tough against Narre Warren A and to their credit fought the game out, eventually going down by a fair margin. Mitch Mibus, Tyler Clark and Lachlan Ward had good games for the Kangaroos. The Reserves struggled from the first bounce in a game that didn’t reach any great heights. At times they showed little fight or intensity and were well beaten by a more disciplined and committed team. Hayden Spierings, Luke Clarke and Jack Cousins tried hard but there were too few contributors around the ground.

make yourselves known to Barry or the Team Managers if you can help. Remember to keep Saturday night 3 June free (after the Berwick away game) for the Club Trivia Night. These are always fun nights for all members and supporters and more details will be available closer to the date. This week we’d like to thank Quinn Civil for their longstanding sponsorship and support of the Club. The Quinn family has been involved in football, netball and volunteer activities for many years and their ongoing support is very much appreciated.

The Senior game ended in an unusual manner when the umpires called it off at three-quarter time due to threatening storms. Narre Warren were in front at the time and, under the rules for such situations, were awarded the game. The boys are hoping to get on the winners list this week against our arch rivals Pakenham. The Club would like to thank the many volunteers who give their time each week to keep the Club functioning. There is much more to a Football Netball Club than match day and extra help is always appreciated. If you can help on Thursday nights or at home games there are always plenty of jobs going so please

Another great weekend of SEFNL Netball with an interesting twist that the 4 visiting teams secured the wins with 2 of the games being won by under 5 goals or less. The conditions prior to the Easter break made it difficult for all teams. The Good Friday clash was played in front a massive crowd with The Doves finishing in front when it mattered most against Hampton Park.

BEACONSFIELD 33 LOST TO TOORADIN 50 Beaconsfield and Tooradin had a titanic battle with the experienced Eagles taking on a team on the rise. Beacy had a slight lead (10-9) at the first break and how the Seagulls responded would shape the outcome of this match. Tooradin Coach Kelly Andrews made some personnel changes including moving their Wing-Defence Sara Duncan into Centre court to turn the tide in the favour. The moves had dramatic affect and had the perennial finalist Beaconsfield on the back foot. Tooradin outscored the home side 17 goals to 10 to lead by 6 at the main change. The second half was all Tooradin, as their defenders started to dominate and the fluent ball movement became relentless. Tooradin scored 24 goals to 13 and ran away with an impressive 17 goals victory which has propelled them to top of the SEFNL ladder.

BERWICK 41 LOST TO CRANBOURNE 43 The game was fiercely contested throughout in tough windy conditions. The quarter-time score had Cranbourne leading by the slightest margin. Cranbourne seized control in the second term outshooting Berwick 18 to 11 to extend their lead to 8 points at halftime. Berwick came out to play in the second half and set about chipping away at scoreboard. The Wickers outscored the Eagles 12 goals to 5 and were starting to play a more confident style of Netball. The last quarter was a thriller as the game ebbed and flowed, with the margin staying close. Cranbourne stayed focused and showed composure to hold on and win by 2 goals.

ROC 29 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 54 Narre Warren is a formidable opponent in any conditions. Last year’s premiers haven’t skipped a beat during the pre-season and look to be hard to stop again as ROC found out in their first game at home for the season. Narre got the jump early on with their mid court players having an impact straight away as the Magpies enjoyed a 15 goals to 6 lead. Narre were unrelenting and continued to press and were at the top of the game. ROC were better in the second quarter but were unable to reduce the margin as Narre were too strong in each position. Narre showed signs that once again they will be the benchmark in the competition and tough to beat, the Magpies ran out 25 goals victors - 54 to 29.

HAMPTON PARK 31 LOST TO DOVETON 35 The standalone Easter fixture brought together 2 teams on a similar path this season. Hampton Park have introduced new players and looking to rebuild while Doveton have an experienced coach looking to improve the clubs fortunes both on and off the court. The game was a reflection of how close this competition will be this year. Either side unrelenting in their endeavour with a real emphasis on defence. The match was entertaining with the game in the balance for most of match before Doveton creating enough of a lead to secure the 4 goal win away from home.

CRANBOURNE (3RD 2-0) V TOORADIN (1ST 2-0) Two of the undefeated teams will take to the court for the first time with plenty on the line. There is so much to like about the way both clubs have approached the season. Cranbourne have built from within with the young Eagles outfit playing inspiring Netball to start the season undefeated. Tooradin are relishing the new methods introduced by second year coach Kelly Andrews. This game will be a major confidence booster going forward as it looks likely both will be in finals contention come season end. Tooradin are on fire in attack averaging 58 goals a match while only conceding 28 goals a match after 2 rounds which puts them on par with the best in the competition. Cranbourne’s wins have been just as impressive without the huge score lines averaging the 3rd highest attack (46 goals per match). This match will provide us with a better understanding exactly where the both sides are at this season and will be one of the matches of the season. Tooradin by 6 goals.

NARRE WARREN (2ND 1-0) V BEACONSFIELD (5TH 1-1) Narre Warren hit the court where they left after winning the premiership last season. The Magpies enjoyed a different preparation this year after representing the SEFNL and performing amicably in the League Cup. Narre is well coached with advanced techniques introduced by the Heinrich’s coaching team and will look to steamroll their rivals Beaconsfield. Beacy have always been towards the top of the ladder, but as we have seen other clubs are starting to close the gap. The Eagles have a wealth of experience and a settled line up which they use to their advantage. They will need to start the game with a bang and minimise their turnovers to keep the ball

out of their opposition hands. Narre appear to have gone from strength to strength and should account for Beaconsfield easily at home. Narre Warren by 25 goals.

HAMPTON PARK (9TH 0-2) V BERWICK (8TH 0-2) Sometimes adversity provides opportunity and with both teams without a win to start the season this weekend delivers such an opportunity. Hampton Park played some great Netball last season but have begun slowly, while Berwick is going through a rebuild but have shown some great fighting spirit to go down in narrow defeats. It’s a tough match to get a read on as they both have great qualities but which team can bring their ‘A’ game and play consistent Netball for four quarters should have enough to get the win. I think Berwick have looked good in patches this season and should have enough to cause an upset and get their first win of the season. Berwick by 3 goals.

ROC (6TH 1-1) V PAKENHAM (7TH 0-1) Here is another close contest between 2 teams who will be desperate for the win. ROC had a great win first-up but then struggled to contain the Narre Warren surge. Where the Lions are coming into the contest after a 2 week break and should be refreshed and ready to take on the Kangaroos. ROC have been bolstered by a return of seasoned stars and should have enough depth to handle Pakenham this weekend, although an upset wouldn’t be too far off the cards. Pakenham have shown when they come to play they can test the best in the competition just need to work on playing with more confidence and to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal. ROC to use the home court to their advantage. ROC by 11 goals.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed the break. For round 2 we had our first away game as we travelled to Berwick. A beautiful, warm and sunny morning to kick off the 13’s. 13 white played their first game of the season. The nerves were showing a little. A young side and most players new to footy league. We forward to seeing them develop over the season. Our 13 Reds played an outstanding game on Saturday. With most of the team new to playing outdoors, they have adjusted their game quickly and they fought hard right to the end. 15 white played their first game today. Looking wonderful in their new uniforms. They played solid 4 quarters. There was only a couple of goals in it. Unfortunately they didn’t get the win.

C grade showcased some fantastic netball skills on the court. The 2nd half saw them pull away on the score board for a convincing win. D grade had a very impressive win with 4 solid quarters of quality netball with each player putting in their all. Those bursts of energy in that heat also very impressive. This week we have our ANZAC day clash with Tooradin. A great day to reflect and show respect for the men and women who have served for our country. GO EAGLES!

15 red. With the temperature starting to climb and with a limited bench the girls kept their heads up under pressure and in the heat. 17 white had an exciting 4th quarter. One goal down with a contact call 1 second before the siren. They scored a wonderful goal under pressure to get a draw. 17 Red. The girls struggled a little in the heat but never gave up. A great win for the girls today. We can see there is such good things to come from this team. With the temperature starting to climb at midday. Things started to heat up… A grade had a hard fought win. Some sensational netball being played. Keeping their heads in the game coming away with a two goal victory! B grade. Started out with a great first quarter but just couldn’t hold onto the lead. Great defensive pressure by the defenders but unfortunately didn’t get the win.

It would be fair to say we were all looking forward to the Easter break after a poor showing at Beaconsfield in Round 2. Despite our players showing flashes of brilliant play we came away from the weekend with a lot to work on. The exception being our A grade team who managed a convincing win over Beaconsfield in a tough match in hot conditions. With the Easter break coming up our senior girls took the opportunity to have a bit of friendly competition at training and split into teams for a ‘mini Olympics’. It would be fair to say there were many laughs had, despite the fierce

competition. Thank you to the coaches for organising a great night, special thanks to Kelly Andrews for supplying us with lovely fresh eggs on the night! Sadly this week also saw our club farewell a true club legend in football club life member Mick Riley. Mick is an icon of our club and our Tooradin community as a whole and he will be sadly missed around the club. This week was back into full training as we prepare to take on Cranbourne at Casey Fields. All teams will be ready to build on previous performances and take home the win. Go Seagulls!

Our netballers got off to a positive start to season 2017 in very hot conditions at Officer for Round Two. The junior netball was very competitive with ROC showing why they will be a benchmark in the 13s and 15s competitions. Our 17s produced two strong wins with the 17 White side dominating their score line. 17 Red had to dig deep to combat a persistent ROC side but improved with each quarter to run out convincing winners. Our four senior sides all claimed victories in their first hit out of the season. D Grade were steady winners, controlling their match for four quarters. It was great to see Emma Pansow back on the court after a twelve month injury battle. Sadly, Bec Dall suffered a nasty fall in the final quarter, injuring her leg. We wish Bec a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back in action. C Grade were strong from the outset. Maddie Maund was a standout in the midcourt, while Jacqui was a reliable target in her first match back. . B Grade had a tussle with ROC, struggling to shake them off. Amy Rae was fantastic at WD, applying pressure to creating turnovers. Meaghan McGill returned to the court and rebounded strongly in defence. With Jemma and Carly overseas, Tamika from the 17s stepped up and offered fresh legs and variety in the goal circle.

The ten netball matches are set to be great contests. Grand Final re-matches for 17 Red, C and A Grade will provide plenty of action and netball talent. To add to the excitement of the day, we will be celebrating 200 junior and senior games for the lovely ‘Kate the Great’. The always smiling and ever helpful Kate Dowling has bagged a couple of premierships in her time at Narre Warren, held the premiership cup as a captain and regularly given back to the club, coaching and volunteering her time. We wish you all the best for a fantastic season Kate! Congratulations to Kealeigh Brown who plays her 100th game in the black and white this week. Kealeigh’s persistence and hard work has paid off over many seasons, notching up four premierships over the past four years. She is fearless on the court and is a fantastic club person, always willing to pitching in. Great effort Kealeigh! #lestweforget #narrelove

A Grade showed why they will be the most hunted side of 2017, dominating all areas of the court for four quarters. Tracey Dell was best on court at goal keeper, getting her hands on several intercepts. Britt Mash slotted into the A grade mid court with ease. Caity Stephens made her senior debut and provided another option in the talented mid court. Our first home game of 2017 is going to be a BIG day against Beaconsfield. We invite all players, officials and supporters to join us in paying our respects to the ANZACs who fought to make our lucky country what it is today. The ceremony will take place prior to the Senior Football and A Grade matches.

A Grade were outplayed by a well drilled & disciplined Tooradin. We started off well, maintaining possession & working the ball in transition, & led by 1 goal at qtr time. After qtr time, we allowed the opposition to do as they pleased, lacking defensive pressure, not respecting possession, & not taking ownership of our performance. An experience & performance we will learn from, & will need to bring our A game next round. B Grade put together a fantastic 4 qtr performance. The girls worked tirelessly in defence, pressuring every pass, working the ball through the mid court with some great passages of play, & shooting well. A great team game, where everyone contributed to the team win. Well done to Ciara, Corrine & Zoe on receiving the awards. Hot and windy conditions greeted C grade today. We rotated all players through all positions due to the conditions & managed to see some good combinations. Awards: Kids Room-Jordan, P3-Maddy, Premier Hair-Molly & Khans-Hannah. The D grade girls played a strong game in hot conditions. Beacy started off strong & with their persistence & never give up attitudes, came away with the win. Beacy’s defensive pressure saw many turnovers down the court & with great movement by the goalers, were able to finish it off brilliantly at the other end. Awards: Ashleigh-Khan’s, Maddi P-P3 Sports, Claire-Kids Room & Tayla-Premier Hair.

court. A fantastic effort by the team & great to come away with our 1st win. Awards Alix, Maxine, Jaimee, Fran. 15 White’s came away with a good win. A solid effort from all the girls, with the goalers, midcourters & defenders all presenting some excellent work ethic on court. Thanks to Kasey, who stepped up today & helped with numbers. Awards: Tahlia-Video Ezy, Sophie-Charcoal Chicken, ChloeYo-Yo Yoghurt & Darcy-Premier Hair. 13 Red’s-Our game were perfect conditions to play netball. A dry court & the sun shining. At the start we had a few rattled decisions & plays, but the girls finally settled down & began to build a lead each qtr. Tooradin put up a hard contest in the 3rd qtr, but the girls kept their defensive pressure which lead to a 8 point win. Awards: Chloe, Darcy, Imogen, Jamie. 13 White’s dominated in all aspects of the game. The girls played a variety of positions to build an understanding of what team mates need to consider in that position. Great to see all players follow structure & show respect to the opposition. Awards: Charcoal Chicken-Lauren, Hair Cut-Eliza, Yo-Yo Yoghurt-Paige & Video Ezy–Bella.

17 Red’s-Well done girls on producing another impressive win, the scoreboard was by no means a reflection on the physicality of the game. Our first qtr intensity & defensive efforts were outstanding, especially in hot & windy conditions. At half time we were able to provide some fresh legs in the mid-court with Brie & Anya producing some extra drive through the center. The defensive pressure in the circle was a great demonstration of the girls pressure over the Tooradin goalers, earning Teneille & Anya 2 awards for the game & Danielle’s strong finish in goal circle saw her come away with our an award. Looking forward to Narre, it’s always a big match & will be great to see how our young side matches up. 17 White’s-The girls were on fire this week & set up the win in the first qtr. The defenders, mid-court & goalers all combined fantastically creating turnovers & beautiful passages of play down the court. Fantastic team effort! Awards: Mackenzie, Bree & Brodie. After a disappointing loss last week, 15 Reds were fired up to take on Tooradin. The girls started off slow then found their feet & broke away leaving Tooradin goalless in the 2nd & 3rd qtr. The girls had strong leads & great use of space with the defenders intercepting passes & moving the ball down the

15s RED - The girls had a fantastic game and it was only until the end where Doveton had converted from one of our centre passes that won them the game After each quarter the girls came off high diving and getting around their team mates and as a coach that is what you love to see! Attacking end kept fighting for the ball each and every time, which is great! Our defence is what gave us the boost for the game, converting off nearly every intercept they got!

forward to her returning to the court once she’s all fixed up! Best on court easily Layni creating space and always there for an option! Bad luck girls we need to work harder getting it down court and lucky to have Kiah as a back up option as a defender who filled big shoes nicely! Thank you to the girls on bench from white who helped out on court! D grade was a close game from start to finish unfortunately our goals didn’t sink and we went down by a couple of goals best on was TJ.

Shane and I are looking forward to the season already because we can already see so much improvement. Keep it up girls!!!

C grade our defence was strong getting many of turnovers. Our 3Rd quarter being our best unfortunately doves gaoler Amber hardly missed which didn’t help us loosing by only couple of goals best on Bev We hope Liz ankle isn’t as bad as it looks and wish her speedy recovery

17 whites, we went out with our heads down from the warm up. A half time rev up saw us bring some life to the game, but too late against Doveton. Changes in all sections of the court allowed us to work on combinations. Best on was our captain and Centre, Jacquie, switching into GA (shooting 2/2 at 100%).

B- grade finally got their win on the board yesterday. Going out strong in the first qtr. and winning every qtr. after. Defenders were on fire creating havoc in the circle but with Jess carving up their WA. Went into the last qtr. learning our lesson from rnd 1 and we ran the game out winning by 6 goals. Best on ground was Jessica Wilkie

17 red went out guns blazing today and the exhaustion hit them half time loosing the game and out key defender Taylor Ashley we all wish her a quick recovery and look

A grade was tough for 60 mins it was tight physical and intense both teams showed great skill Amazing defence from Karli and Shannon and by far were our standouts

Best on went to Ruby and Tiahn.

Coming into Round 2 with more confidence than Battle of the Creek, the #wickerchicks are certainly proving our critics wrong, and showing the rest of the league that the talk of our re-build is getting us off to a good start to 2017 so far. Both 13 & U sides kicked off a strong start to our first home game of the season and cemented some great wins. Their display of ball work and fundamental skills was highly commended and showed the talent we have ready to come through our ranks. With combinations forming and being affirmed within the 15 Reds & Whites, both teams came together to show the strength in their teamwork and preparation for these matches. This clearly shone through on court, providing great wins in round 2.

with an 8 goal turn around in the 3rd quarter, the match came down to the final minutes, seeing Cranbourne come away with the win by a mere 2 goals, certainly not the prediction of 15. Both C & D grade have a little bit to work in the coming weeks, to gain momentum and get some wins on the board. We remember that Rome wan’t built in a day and we aim high for the coming seasons for our club. This week’s matches against Hampton Park will certainly be an exciting day of match ups and skills.

A late goal to Cranbourne on the whistle, saw a nail biting draw in 17 Whites with all eyes tightly on the timer as the goal went up and in ! Certainly showing what drive these girls are showing so early in the season. 17 Reds were goal for goal all game and Cranbourne turned on their goaling in the last quarter, coming away with the win and leaving our Wickers with the determination to finish it off next round against Hampton Park. Our seniors certainly proved that fighting spirit is back for 2017! With a single player change in B & A grade, momentum progressed and B grade came away with a brilliant win, leaving A grade to bring their experience together into the last game of the day. A complete nail biter
