Welcome to round 4 of the SEFNL Berwick Motor Group 2017 Premiership Season. Last weekend’s ANZAC matches were a fantastic day for all. There were wonderful services held prior to games in remembrance to those who died at war, and we thank all clubs for their participation. The AFL VIC Community Championships squads have been announced, and if you haven’t seen them make sure you check out our website www.sefnl.com.au to see who has made the initial squad. Due to a workload, unfortunately, our game has been moved from the Holden Centre, but we will be playing in our own backyard at Casey Fields Saturday, May 13th, so put in your diary. We are taking on the Hampden FNL in Senior football only. So get down to Casey Fields that Saturday to cheer on the boys as they try and get back into the top 10 of the state.
Our Pink Sports Day is on Saturday 6th May, so make sure your club starts to think pink, and get behind the day and help raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. We all have a mother, sister, grandmother, niece, a friend that we know that has been affected, and this is our chance as a community to rally around one another and support this great cause. That’s all this week from the SENFL Desk, best of luck to all sides competing this weekend!

Competition Review As senior officials from all Clubs are aware, I have been conducting interviews with each of the Clubs in the AFL Southeast region over the past 6 weeks or so. The exercise has been a good opportunity to meet several Presidents and committee representatives for the first time. More relevantly it was also an opportunity to get Club’s views on the best structure for the senior football competition in 2018 and beyond. I have been very appreciative of the manner in which the meetings have been conducted, and I thank all those involved for their input. It’s timely to provide a reminder of the process from here. All the feedback received from Clubs will be provided to the Review Panel appointed by the Commission. It is hoped by the end of May a Position Paper will be distributed to the industry. Clubs will then have a month to formally respond to the Paper. The Review Panel will then make formal recommendations, taking all feedback into account, to the Commission for approval. The Commission is the ultimate decision maker and based on the current timetable the recommendations are due to be issued by the end of July. There has been speculation that certain outcomes have been determined already. I can assure you that is not the case and any comments from Clubs will be there own view, not the view of the Review Panel. Conversations between myself and Club Presidents as part of the Review are confidential and will not be made public. AFL Victoria – Community Championship Matches. The Worksafe AFL Victoria Community Championships 1v2 between the MPNFL and the Geelong FNL is confirmed to commence at 3.30pm on May 13 at the MCG. This will be prior to the
Essendon v Geelong AFL Fixture. The MPNFL list will be trimmed down this week. Coach John Hynes will have a tough job finalising his best side. This is a fantastic opportunity for not only players, but for umpires, coaches and volunteers to participate on the game’s biggest stage. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in making this match a reality, including the competition sponsor WorkSafe, AFL, Essendon and Geelong Football Clubs for their support. The fixture between SEFNL and the Hamden League has had a change of venue to the sudden unavailability of the Holden Centre (Collingwood FC made that decision). The match will now be played at Casey Fields on May 13 starting at 1pm. Highgrove Bathrooms Sponsorship It was pleasing to see 21 of the 22 MPNFL Clubs represented at a function at the Mornington Isuzu Ute Stadium (Frankston Park) last Friday night to receive their cheque from Highgrove Bathrooms. The Clubs are most appreciative of the gesture and as such will be displaying signage at each of the venues This had been arranged through the Frankston Dolphins. One of the criteria in the Dolphins bid to regain a VFL License is to be more engaged with the local football community. While it is easy to say the words, the Dolphins have gone out of their way to engage with AFL Southeast and this sponsorship has a direct benefit to the Clubs in particular. In my view it is important for the young players in our competitions to have pathways through to TAC Cup, the VFL and the AFL. Having a VFL presence in our region is important and we support the Frankston Dolphins in their quest.

Supporting the lifeblood of regional communities WorkSafe is excited to once again partner with AFL Country Victoria for 2017. It’s an ongoing privilege to be a part of country football and netball because these sports play such an important role in every regional community. They bring together families, friends, neighbours and mates to yell, cheer and compete in friendly – and sometimes not so friendly - competition. It is an important partnership for WorkSafe because it gives us the opportunity to spread the message about workplace safety to an incredible mix of people from all walks of life. The people you see here today are players, spectators, umpires, club officials and volunteers. But they are also farmers, tradesmen, businesspeople, shop assistants and workers from a hundred different industries who deserve to get home safe at the end of the day. WorkSafe works hard with local clubs and leagues every year to promote workplace safety and the support and hospitality we receive from local communities is remarkable. At our Games of The Month, we invite some of the biggest names in football and netball to come along to meet the locals, share their sporting stories and enjoy the big-day atmosphere.
Our Club Safety Fund, which offers financial support to clubs who have initiatives to make their players and supporters safer, will again be available this year. But workplace safety is not just an issue for WorkSafe. Every employer and employee must take responsibility for keeping safe at work. And every family member who says goodbye to their mum or dad, their son or daughter, or their brother or sister as they leave for work each morning, can do their part by reminding them of the need to take care. We ask all regional Victorians to stop and think about what is ultimately important to them. What can they do to prevent the death or injury of a loved one at work? While the number of workplace injuries in country Victoria continues to decline, there’s always more that can be done. Through our involvement in country football and netball, we will continue to spread the message that no one should be injured at work. Safety is everyone’s responsibility and we must work together to ensure a safer Victoria for all. Clare Amies Chief Executive WorkSafe Victoria

CRANBOURNE 13.11.89 DEF TOORADIN 11.8.74 The traditional ANZAC Day clash lived up to all expectations. Cranbourne has had the wood over the opponents in recent years and kicked the first 3 goals of the match and there was ominous signs that we could see a result we have come accustomed too. Tooradin started to get themselves back into the contest, Aisake O’Halpin was proving a difficult big man to curtail for the Eagles. O’Halpin’s dominance turned the game into the favour of the Seagulls as they kicked 2 goals to reduce the margin to 13 points at the first change. Nick Lang kicked a magnificent goal from the boundary which lifted the visitors. Ryan Jones was battling hard inside forward 50 to help the Eagles regain composure, his 2 goals in the second quarter helped the Eagles to a 3 goal lead. Both teams exchanged goals before new recruit Brandon Wapshott drifted forward and kicked a great goal to give the Eagles the momentum and lead by 4 goals at halftime. Similar to second quarter Lang kicked another goal to start the quarter but it was Nathan Gardnier to hit back straight away for the premiers. Tooradin started to win the physical contest, O’Hailpin was providing first use of the footy down to Josh Muling and the momentum swung to the underdogs. Cranbourne failed to capitalise in front of goal while Tooradin kicked 3 unanswered goals to reduce the margin to 14 points and a upset was on the cards. Luke Bee-Hugo kicked a late goal to return the momentum to Cranbourne going into the last stanza. Nick Lang’s day out continued as the skilful forward kicked 2 last quarter goals to have the margin to only 9 points and take his game tally to 6 goals. Khaled Kandajki managed to break free and kick the sealer late in the last quarter which took the sting out of the contest as Cranbourne were pushed to the brink in their 15 point win.
NARRE WARREN 9.11.65 LOST TO BEACONSFIELD 13.13.91 Nick Scanlan got the ball rolling for the home side but it was Beaconsfield who built the momentum quickly. Beaconsfield booted 8 unanswered goals and Narre were on the back foot. It’s not often Narre are head goalless for a quarter especially at home. It wasn’t until early in the second quarter that Narre Warren where able to get themselves back into the contest. The Magpies hit back hard, kicking 5 goals in a matter of 5 mins to reduce the margin to 11 points and it looked like they were going to wrestle back the lead. Beacy’s experienced leader Daniel Mislicki kicked a goal to steady the ship before 2 late goals including Scanlan’s fourth the half, leaving the teams were separated by 4 points at the half. The third quarter was a
dour struggle, Beaconsfield’s defence working overtime restricting the home side to only 3 points and extending their lead to 16 points at the final change. Kyle Van Der Plyum had his best day out for his new side booting 3 goals. Beacy would be proud of their efforts restricting Narre to only 1 goal for the second half as they ran out victors and received a huge confidence boost winning by 26 points.
HAMPTON PARK 8.1.49 LOST TO BERWICK 31.22.208 Hampton Park played one of their best quarters in a long time, pushing their fancied rivals all the way to quarter time they were trailing by only 16 points. The Redbacks accurate kicking where making the most of limited of opportunities as Berwick started to apply the pressure and extend their lead. Berwick had 21 scoring shots to 5 in the first half and were starting to show their dominance over their young opposition. The second half was all Berwick, the premiership quarter saw them score 12 goals as the gap quickly increased beyond 100 points. By three quarter time it was 40 scoring shots to 8, the Wickers forwards scored multiple goals and if they kicked straight the margin could have been in excess of 150 points. With the result beyond doubt Berwick continued to press hard, Bryce Connelly finished the day with 6 goals, while they had 7 multiple goalkickers as they amassed 31 goals and won the match by 159 points.
PAKENHAM 7.10.52 LOST TO OFFICER 13.18.96 Pakenham and Officer always put on a contest on the ANZAC Day weekend and this was no exception early. Officer failed to capitalise on early opportunities, they had more scoring shots but were trailing by a point at the early change. The second quarter was a lot better for Officer as they started to turn their dominance into scoreboard pressure and got out to a 4 goal lead. Officer’s defensive work shouldn’t be underestimated, they restricted Pakenham to only 3 behinds as they took a 24 point lead into the main change. Officer continued to work their opposition over and the applied pressure got them into a winning position early in the third quarter. Officer restricted Pakenham’s ball movement and continued to get numbers around the contest as they extended their lead to 37 points at three quarter time. Pakenham were unable to get themselves into the contest as Officer really put their rivals to the sword. Officer kicked 2.6 in the last quarter and failed to capitalise on their opportunity for a huge win. Matt Jones and Matt Rogers combined for 6 goals while Leigh Adams was considered best on ground in the Kangaroos impressive 46 point win.

Last Time – Round 15 – Pakenham 10.7.67 def Beaconsfield 9.8.62
The Doves welcome The Eagles in what shapes as the match of the round. Doveton have won both of their matches in in impressive style, although expected to win it’s the way they went about it which has seen them towards the top of the ladder early in the season. The introduction of Taylor Joyce has eased goal scoring pressure and Michael Henry has been at his best combing with Joyce for 23 goals in 2 weeks. Rus Gabriel is looking as fit as ever and uses his big frame to advantage, his tap work is some of the best in the business which feeds a talented midfield like Sam Raru and Nick Battle. Cranbourne are a hard side to read at the moment, they dismantled Hampton Park before being trounced by Berwick and pushed all the way at home against Tooradin. Their form has been patchy and we are yet to see a full four quarter performance in recent times. Doveton at home is always a tough ask and the game looks set to be won in the midfield, both teams have plenty of depth and will be an enthralling contest. If Doveton can apply pressure for the full 120 minutes they have enough to push Cranbourne and throw a cat amongst the pigeons as teams push for early season ladder positions. Doveton by 11 points.
OFFICER (6TH 1-2 88%) V HAMPTON PARK (9TH 0-3 19%) Last Time – Round 11 Officer 9.5.59 def Hampton Park 4.15.39 Officer received a much needed confidence boost retaining the ANZAC Cup against traditional rivals Pakenham last week. This could propel their season forward and they look set for their second win of the season against the developing Hampton Park. The Roos are adapting to new coaching techniques but it seems Doug Koop is already leaving an impression on his young troops, with the team playing with more endeavour and with better structures. Hampton Park have shown improvements in all their matches this season, they have shown patches of what we can expect when they play well but when they lose momentum allowing their opposition capitalise. To the Redbacks credit their young charges haven’t dropped their heads and will find their opposition a touch easier than they have faced in the first 3 weeks. It could be said that there is no easy opposition in the SEFNL as the teams outside out of the 5 are closing the gap but Hampton Park haven’t played a team who was outside the Top 5 at the end of last year. It will be an interesting reception former Redback players now in the blue and white. The game offers a lot of intrigue and we will find out some answers but Officer should have the class edge at home. Officer by 35 points
Pakenham have tussled with a difficult start to the season after an off-season exodus. The young Lions are trying to move forward without seasoned stars under the guidance of their new coach. It will take time for the rebuild to take shape but a team steeped in such history they will want success sooner rather than later. Beaconsfield is a team to watch under their own first year coach. Beaconsfield’s stock rose last week with an impressive away win at Narre Warren. The Eagles pushed 2015 premiers Berwick for 3 and a half quarters that form could be strong as the Wickers have monstered their other opponents this season. Beaconsfield’s new defensive approach will strangle most opposition sides this season and Pakenham will be no different. The Lions have struggled to hit the scoreboard all season and with The Eagles game plan having a heavy emphasis on defence it’s hard to see it changing this week. Pakenham unearthed a few new recruits and rumoured a few more to hit the track shortly maybe some improvement is around the corner but it appears they face a tough task at home. Beaconsfield by 51 points.
TOORADIN (7TH 1-2 78%) V NARRE WARREN (5TH 1-1 104%) Last Time – Round 11 Tooradin 16.5.101 lost to Narre Warren 26.11.167 In past years you would say this would be a walkover in the favour of perennial finalist Narre Warren, but from what we saw last week this game could be a real contest. Tooradin have recruited Aisake O’Hailpin and the beast will dominate most of the big men in this competition. O’Hailpin was too big and too strong for Cranbourne last week and kept his side within range all match. Tooradin have developed their squad, Luke McKenna adds some experience to their defensive half. Tooradin have let themselves down too often when the opportunity presents themselves. If the Seagulls can find the consistency to play their committed brand of football then they have shown they can run with the best in the SEFNL. Narre Warren would be seething after losing at home last week. Rumours have it that emotions spilled over in the after match, a week of soul searching should have the Magpies amped and ready for the contest. Narre Warren could come out and flex their muscle and really turn up the heat against Tooradin at home. Narre by 27 points.

The annual Good Friday match was hosted last Friday 14th of April by Hampton Park which was predicted to be huge day on & off the field & it sure didn’t disappoint. We would like to thank the Hampton Park Football & Netball Club for their hospitality & making sure the day was a successful one. We came away from the day with 3/3 football wins & 7/8 netball wins. What a day to be a dove! Also a massive congratulations to Shaun Semmens who played his 200th game for the club. The U19’s took on Cranbourne B. We were boosted by the inclusions of the young & exciting Kaleb VanBeek from the Eastern Rangers. The young Doves controlled the match from start to finish, running out 99 point winners. Midfield stars saw Dylan Bowman kick 5 goals & Ricky Johnson 4 goals, both awarded best on field for the day. Keep up the momentum & effort boys! The reserves came up against a determined Hampton Park side that brought pressure around the ground all day. Sean Kelleher and Andy Henwood held up back half well, while the O’Neil brothers absolutely dominated the midfield to help secure a 10 goal win. Well done boys!
We topped off a successful day by our annual Full Moon Party, which saw numbers flock through the door. We would love to thank our wonderful volunteers Aaron, Barry, Andrew, Donald, Annette, Cass and Jude would worked tirelessly throughout the night to make sure it was a success and all ran smoothly. You guys are the back bone of our club & we appreciate you all very much. This week we would like to wish all of our Footballers & Netballers all the best against Cranbourne which will showcase some amazing talent across the day. We are also hosting our Doveton in Business Launch which commences at 12pm until 4pm. Our MC for the day is Shawn Cosgrove. Our big name guest speakers for the day are Collingwood’s newest recruit & former North Melbourne 243 game veteran Daniel Wells. Accompanied by Western Bulldogs 2016 premiership player & norm smith medallist Jason Johannisen & Matthew Suckling – former Hawthorn turned Western Bulldogs defender. Go Doves!
The seniors were eager to continue their strong start to the season & that they did, coming away with a convincing 135 point victory. We saw Sam Muirhead get the call up to the seniors, going off his impressive reserves performance last week against ROC. Big Russ was instrumental yet again for us in the middle & gaining yet another best on ground performance. Taylor Joyce had the crowd in a frenzy kicking a massive 11 goal haul for the game. Michael Henry, Jake Blackwood and Matt Jameson were also solid contributors for the match. We take on Cranbourne this week who are a force in this competition. This will be a bench mark game for us & it will prove to not only ourselves but the rest of the competition we are a much more determined, focused & stronger matched side then previous seasons.

Welcome everyone to our Rd 4 clash with Hampton Park. In the Under 19’s today our boys take on Cranbourne as Hampton Park don’t field an Under 19’s side this year. Good luck to all teams today. Last week at Toomuc Reserve the Under 19’s went down to Pakenham by nearly seven goals in a disappointing result. The boys went in to the match confident of a win but a lack of intensity and poor use of the ball allowed a more determined Pakenham side to get away with a well-deserved win. Lachlan Ward, Jamie Longmuir and Tyler Clark played well for Officer.
wine tour during the winter school holidays - more details to follow when available. The Royal Roo coterie group memberships are also available again this year at $350 per single or $400 including spouse. See the PPO officials in the Past Players Building.
In the Reserves game the Kangaroos put a poor first half behind them to overrun the Lions in the second half to win by 14 points. With the inclusion of regular Senior players Dylan Chapman and Jake Ingaliso and a greater level of desperation the boys managed to play to their abilities and get their first win of the season. The Senior side also achieved their first victory of the season with a good showing against Pakenham to retain the Anzac Day Cup. The first half was a bit patchy but again a stronger second-half effort saw the superior skill and strength of the Kangaroos carry them to a comfortable 44 point win. James Waldon was outstanding in defence and Nick Redley again dominated in the ruck. Congratulations to the Pakenham club on a well-presented tribute to the ANZAC tradition. Today is also the Past Players and Officials Day with a function being held in the Past Players Building. The PPO are also planning the annual

Last weekend we played host to Berwick which was always going to be a tough day at the office and it proved as much. The reserves got the day underway and although the score blew out you could not fault the boys endeavour. There were passages of play were you can see the improvement over the past few weeks which comes from the squad putting in the hard yards at training. Better players on the day were J Warry, R Smart, M Penn, J Viney, A Hussaini, & M Phouttanouvong.
Congratulations to Carly & Josh Thurwood on the safe arrival of Caleb Anthony Thurwood on 22nd April at 4.44pm weighing 4.35kg or 9lb9oz. Well done guys and here is hoping that Caleb is a sleeper. Thank you to all our sponsors whom without your assistance we would not be able to field our teams.
Seniors were next up and there were some encouraging signs over the first half. The boys held there own in the first half however Berwick were too strong in the second half. There were some sprouts of encouragement for the team though, with our score being our highest for the season along with the highest score Berwick have conceeded in the first 3 rounds. Better players on the day were; Y Jaffer-Williams, L O’Brien, J Philpin, H Brough, CJ Layfield & N Carver. This week we head out to Officer for the first of two away games. Milestones Today Bryce Keyzer plays his 50th game, congratulations Bryce. Thank you to all the players/volunteers that attended the Dawn Service in Hampton Park on Tuesday.

Last weekend saw Pakenham play Officer in our first home game for season 2017. A big crowd converged on Toomuc Valley Reserve for the annual Anzac Weekend clash against Officer, whereby both clubs paid tribute, in conjunction with the Pakenham RSL Club to our fallen soldiers of yesteryear.
Officer all over the ground. At quarter time Pakenham were leading by a solitary point and the game looked to be heading into an arm wrestle. But in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, Officer split the game open with 8 goals to 2, to put the game beyond doubt and they came away with a convincing 44 point win.
Prior to the Senior Game, both clubs, along with our netball clubs, did a line of honour on the ground and the RSL Club conducted the Last Post with all in attendance at the ground in complete silence. It was a fantastic service.
On Saturday night, we had Gerard V Comedy Hypnotist to the club, performing his Hypnotist Show and was a great success. All in attendance were in raptures seeing some of the players and personalities around the club under hypnosis. Best on was certainly Ken McClean, who was hilarious under hypnosis. Another crowd favourite was Jackson Hillard, who pulled of a great rap rendition of StKilda’s theme song.
We thank everyone involved in the day, in making it a great success. Our Under 19’s continued their great start to the season, by easily accounting for Officer. The boys gained control of the game and once they hit the front, were not headed and came away with a convincing win. In the Ressies, this was a tight contest for the first quarter and then Pakenham put scoreboard pressure on Officer in the 2nd and at half time we were a couple of goals in front. Officer came out in the 3rd quarter and totally outplayed us and pulled away in the third term. At 3/4 time, they had jumped to a 20 point lead. Pakenham had their chances in the last quarter and got back to 8 points with still 10 minutes to go, before Officer wrestled back control of the game hang on to win by 14 points.
Comedy Night June 17 at 8pm The Pakenham Football Club will be hosting a Comedy Night on June 17th, 2017 after our home game against Cranbourne from 8pm. Dave O’Neil and Lehmo will be in attendance, along with Brad Oakes from Hey Hey its Saturday. This will be a terrific night of Comedy. So pencil this into the calendar and tickets will be available in the coming weeks.
The Senior side were looking to atone for the rd 1 loss against Tooradin and early stages of the game things were looking good. We were matching

Welcome to round 4 It is with great sadness that we report the news that we have lost one of our clubs greatest ambassadors in Alex Robson who has been our number 1 ticket holder for a long period of time. Alex was well known and has always been a great club supporter. In conjunction with Pakenham Football Club we will hold a minute’s silence for each of our games as a mark of respect to Alex who was a true gentlemen a standout club person and a part of our club for 50 years. Saturday night also sees our first social function with an “IPod shuffle Night” back at the club after the game Saturday night. Mixed results for Narre in the Anzac Round. Our Twos dominated, and our Under 19A won a tight one against Beaconsfield. However, Beacy’s Ones dealt our boys a 4 goal loss in the Senior game, and our Narre Under 19B were beaten by a strong Doveton outfit. Thanks to all involved in the moving pre-game Anzac ceremony to pay tribute to men and women who have served and sacrificed in the Australian Defence forces in times of peace and war. Seniors – Narre’s Ones couldn’t get our hands on the footy early and Beacy’s dominance in the midfield helped them open up a six-goal break by quarter time. From then it was catch-up footy for Narre, despite a 7 goal second quarter bringing us back on to level terms at the long break. We’d expended a lot of energy and Beaconsfield steadied again in the second half. Their defence was drum tight and they won the contest with impressive run and spread, getting numbers around the footy across the ground.
out early to support the boys. Doveton were quicker out of the blocks and took a 23 point lead into quarter time which extended to 39 by the halftime break. Narre showed more focus after the break. We pressured the opposition endlessly and started to move the ball freely which gave our forwards more scoring opportunities. Doveton ran out winners by 62 points but it was an encouraging effort by Narre and we can take a few positives from the game. Narre had an even contribution around the field, with Jack McGuffie, Brandon Hogan and Lachie Marie our better players. Social Notes – Narre’s Past Players, Supporters and Committee Day is at our Round 5 home game v Berwick on Saturday 6 May in the Social club at Fox Road. All are welcome - $20 entry includes beer, wine and finger food from 1 pm.
NARRE WARREN
Nick Scanlon was Narre’s best with four goals, but our forwards were choked of supply once Beaconsfield regained control upfield. Andrew Hunter, Dale Gawley and Jake Richardson worked hard at their tasks all day and the Kelly brothers were solid under constant pressure in the back half. Reserves - Narre’s Twos played some impressive footy to open up an 8-goal to 1-goal lead by half time against good opposition. Hard running and slick ball use will be a feature of this Narre outfit as the season unfolds. Narre’s early dominance in the air through Dutchy Holland and ‘Trenta’ Papworth opened the game up for our runners and Andy Vella (Narre’s best), and Dean Scanlon (3 goals) capitalised to stake Narre’s early ascendancy. After half time Beaconsfield pushed harder but Narre had all the momentum and played the game out for an impressive ten goal win. Brent Urwin, Dom Larosa and Daniel Borninkhof were also among Narre’s best in a very even team effort. Under 19 A – The Narre Under 19A v. Beaconsfield match was a cracker between two very good sides Quick ball movement and long kicks to targets will be a hallmark of both these teams, but this match was tough and contested in close. A tight, goal-for-goal first half was pressure footy all over the ground. Narre gained a three goal break in the third term but Beaconsfield surged again in a three goal last quarter. It took all of Narre’s poise and effort under pressure to hold on for a great win. In a low scoring affair, Narre’s goals were shared around. Our best were Tom Miller , Jake Stuart , Jake Bocari Leigh Tannerhill & “Tony “ Bartuccio. Under 19 B – Narre’s Under 19B side welcomed Doveton to Fox Rd for the early game in front of a big crowd. Thanks to all the players’ families and friends of both sides for coming

Round 3 action saw 2 of the 3 undefeated teams in the season lose their first matches for the season. Tooradin proved to be tough a task for Cranbourne. Beaconsfield got revenge against fancied rivals Narre Warren ending their 21 game winning streak, while ROC and Hampton Park both recorded convincing wins to return the winners list.
CRANBOURNE 32 LOST TO TOORADIN 47 Two evenly matched teams faced off at Casey Fields, and were only separated by 2 goals at quarter time. Tooradin has been playing with a new confidence after making the finals last year, while Cranbourne has shown continuous improvement early in the season. Tooradin came out in the second and really pressed their opposition into turnovers while capitalising in front of goal to shoot 12 goals to 8 goals to extend their lead to 6 goals at the half. With the game up for grabs it was Tooradin who came out after halftime and really turned it on shooting 16 goals to 6 and lead by 16 goals with a quarter to go. It looked hard for the Eagles to get back into contest but to their credit their fought it out to the end, outscoring their classy opponents but went down by 15 goals.
NARRE WARREN 46 V BEACONSFIELD 49 Last year’s premiers, a team which hadn’t been defeated since 2015 took on their traditional rivals at Kalora Park. Beaconsfield had an indifferent start to the season with a win Round 1 and lost comprehensively to ladder leader Tooradin making them desperate to get the win. Narre are a well drilled unit and a difficult task regardless of location and Beaconsfield would have to be at their best to secure the upset. Narre suffered with the loss of their regular goalers with Taylor Shannon going doing with an early injury. The game ebbed and flowed with close to 10 lead change with momentum swinging both ways but to Beaconsfield’s credit they stood up to unrelenting pressure from the home side. Beaconsfield managed to convert in front of goal with their experienced players stepping up to cause the biggest upset of the season winning by 3 goals ending Narre Warren’s 21 game winning streak.
HAMPTON PARK 46 V BERWICK 34 Hampton Park came into this contest desperate for their first win of the season as they had been close but were unable to secure a win. Berwick had shown plenty of improvement and started the game confidently but were struggling to convert their opportunities into scoreboard pressure. Hampton Park took an early lead in the first quarter and could sense they were a chance of getting the win and started to work hard and managed to slowly start to build an unsurmountable 10 goal lead. Berwick never gave up the chase in the second half and worked hard to try and reduce the margin. The home side made best use of the home court advantage and really pressed to ensure they maintained their winnable position. The Redbacks looked good in their confidence building 12 goal win in front of their home crowd.
PAKENHAM 25 V OFFICER 53 Like their football counterparts, Pakenham and ROC have built a strong rivalry with some close tough contests in the past. This season has both teams at different spectrums of the ladder, with ROC pushing towards a possible finals finish with Pakenham rebuilding their netball club after preseason changes. Pakenham have had their issues this season getting enough scoring opportunities to put scoreboard pressure back on their opposition and this was no different. ROC could sense they were in the pole position to secure their second win of the season and they wouldn’t let that opportunity slip winning by 28 goals.

DOVETON (5TH 1-1) V CRANBOURNE (4TH 2-1) Doveton come into their crucial contest with a week off due to the bye. The evenness of this competition makes a game like this so important if the team is to remain in the finals picture. Although the season is still young a win here can really provide a confidence boost as teams jostle for ladder position. Cranbourne have played some brilliant netball already this season, although they went down to the ladder leaders last week, their form in the first 2 weeks would put them in a strong position to get a win. The Eagles don’t enjoy the same margins as others but they work hard and play a great brand of team netball which can be difficult to stop. Doveton play their home court better than anyone in the competition and will be hoping the conditions give them a slight edge. Cranbourne to bounce back strongly and secure an important away win. Cranbourne by 6 goals.
OFFICER (3RD 2-1) V HAMPTON PARK (7TH 1-2) ROC couldn’t ask for a better start to the season. ROC are currently in 3rd position and seem to be reaping the rewards from their new found depth at the club. ROC are fortunate to have some of the best netball facilities in the competition and it’s starting to see some of their players really flourish. Hampton Park secured a confidence boosting first win of the season. The Redbacks played finals last year and will need to build some momentum into their season to ensure they don’t fall too far down the ladder. This is shaping as one of the matches of the round and looks a tough one to find a winner. ROC have scored more goals but have also conceded more goals then their opposition this season. It might come down to the team who can reduce turnovers and free passes to ensure they are in control of the possession. In a flip of the coin contest, I think ROC might use the home court advantage enough to grab their third win of the season. ROC by 3 goals.
PAKENHAM (8TH 0-2) V BEACONSFIELD (6TH 2-1)0-2) Pakenham had a disappointing loss last week at the hands of ROC and will need to re-group quickly as they welcome Beaconsfield, who will be brimming full of confidence after an upset win against Narre Warren. The Eagles have welcomed back a flock of experienced stars and it was going to take a while for the line-up to settle but going by last week the Eagles will be considered one of the teams to beat this season and should account for Pakenham pretty easily at Toomuc Reserve. Pakenham will need to look at their ball movement to provide their goalers better opportunities in front of goal, the Lions are currently averaging the lowest amount of goals this season at just 24. Pakenham will come out with plenty of fight early but could run out of steam against the high flying Eagles. Beaconsfield by 17 goals.
TOORADIN (1ST 3-0) V NARRE WARREN (2ND 1-1) This will be an early season preview of what to expect during the 2017 finals. I know it’s early to say but these 2 teams have really taken their games to new level. Narre will be seething after a stinging lost last week at the hands of the Eagles, while Tooradin has been taking everything in front of them. Tooradin is averaging 54 goals a game while conceding less than 30 goals a game which goes to show they are a force across the court. There is nothing to suggest that Tooradin can’t continue in their rich vein of form at home and cause Narre back to back loses which would be a feat in itself as Narre have been a dominant force in local netball for over 18 months. Tooradin by 7 goals.

A Grade bounced back after a disappointing performance last round, with a win over Narre. The game was played at a frantic pace, both teams in a position to take the win. A great effort by all playing to our potential. Bianca & Emily utilised the space inside the attacking circle providing a strong target for our midcourters. Jaz, Ash, Kate & Rylee had the ball moving through the midcourt with great precision, making it difficult for the opposition midcourt. Defenders Dan, Tay & Brit worked tirelessly for 4 qtrs to provide us with some much needed possession. This win will give us a great amount of confidence & sense of belief for our upcoming games. Well done to Bianca on being awarded the Anzac Medal, aswell as Emily & Kate for the club awards.
13 Red-This game was a well battled win all the way to the siren. Narre put up a great fight through all 4 qtrs, but it was the Beacy girls determination, persistence & hunger that motivated them to fight to the end. Awards:Darcy, Chloe & Holly. 13 White-Narre was tougher then the final score line suggests. Beacy had to counteract a very tall Narre defender in the first half & it was a fair battle for all players across the court. The team was patient for intercepts & turnovers & then brought the ball down the court efficiently using channels. Special mention to Paige for showing her strength as a key defender & Aleisha for making a strong start to the season after recovering from her shoulder injury. Awards: Sami, Paige, Aleisha.
The B Grade girls travelled to Fox Rd to take on Narre in what was always going to be a tough match for both teams. Beacy managed to take a 4 goal lead in the 1st qtr & hold on for the remainder of the game. Making this 3 from 3 for the Eagles, the team will need to continue to keep pushing themselves in order to continue their good form. Awards:Corrine, Gabbi & Zoe. C grade fought hard for 3 qtrs in our battle against Narre but ran out of legs in the last qtr. We showed some good signs but our discussion after the game pinpointed the areas we need to work on. Awards:Caity, Mia, Sam & Hannah. D Grades match against Narre had our girls challenged throughout the entire match with the score being close & the lead being shared on numerous occasions. Our midcourt started out strong with some great feeds into our goalers & Emily holding strong. Defense had there own challenges but come out on top. Unfortunately we fatigued in the last qtr & went down by 4 goals. Awards:Tianah, Shelley & Maddi K. 17 Red-Coming up against Narre at their home you always know that it’s going to be a highly competitive match. Unfortunately the girls didn’t come away with the result they hoped for but it was a great test to see exactly where the playing group is at. There were some outstanding passages of play throughout the game & it was great to witness the talent battle it out in the midcourt. Lots of opportunities to learn & develop from & look forward to next time. Awards:Teneille, Paige & Bri. 17 White-A fantastic game by the girls, they hit the court pumped & focused to take on Narre. The girls kept building all game to put 4 strong qtrs together displaying a fantastic team effort! Awards:Brodie, Zara & Abhi. U15 Red had a disappointing loss against Narre. A few changes in defence & midcourt at half time saw the girls put on a much stronger contest in the 2nd half. Awards:Maxine, Millie & Mikayla. U15 White showed good consistency in some aspects of the match & came away with a great win. Awards:Tahlia, Keely & Jaime for their awesome perseverance through the whole 4 qtrs.

U17 Whites improved greatly this week. They can out with determination and fight, and although the final score was not in our favour, these girls showed us how much passion they have for the sport. Annalise, Laura, Richelle and Jacquie worked hard in defence, turning over a ridiculous amount of ball, but unfortunately we’ve had trouble getting into the circle. Best on goes to Laura and Annalise D grade smashed it today came out strong and stayed strong bit hard to give a best on everyone played really well but have given it to Chrissy and Kirsten in defence line. C grade came out strong and firing after dropping 2 games by only couple of goals we held on today and came away with a 10 goal win. Best on by far for me was Jacinta coming up from d grade you played amazing Horrible start for B-Grade. Over throwing the ball and everything we
had trained hard on through the past few weeks went out the window. Down by 7 goals at half time I had to hand off my sun glasses to avoid breaking them. Then the heavens opened. We were down by about 13 goals 1/2 way the 3rd qtr. and we got ourselves together. Get a huge run on we turned it around to be two goals down in the last and we didn’t stop there with an usual call to move our GK to WA we went even harder and Khloe and Amber just dominated moving the ball in to the circle and combining with Megan we won by 10. Best on ground was a tie between Alisha Parissis, Amber Dunn-Marler and Khloe Weaver. A grade tough game nice and close but winning every quarter but really getting it together in the last winning by roughly 15. Best on Karli and Kass. Special mention to Meg coming up from b grade and shooting at 84% you played amazing

It was a mixed day out at Casey Fields last week bringing home three wins on ANZAC round. Our A grade girls put on a brilliant display of Netball while B grade made it over the line in another tough match. Our 13 Red team recorded their second win for the season proving just how determined they are to progress from last season. Despite those wins match of the day would have to go to our 13 White team who went down in a nail biter by ONE goal! The team played the game of their lives and scored a phenomenal 17 goals. The most the team has scored over the last few seasons. Congratulations to those girls on a fantastic
effort and proving to yourselves what you are capable of. It was fantastic to see all teams and supporters so excited for these talented young Seagulls. ANZAC day saw us paying respect at our Tooradin community ANZAC ceremony. Thank you to those who braved the elements to represent our club. This week sees us testing ourselves against Narre Warren at home. We will again be hosting the Share the Dignity donation bin so please feel free to bring along any donations. Go Seagulls!

Narre Warren hosted Beaconsfield for an exciting ANZAC Round. All ten matches provided a wealth of competative netball. Narre Warren took four wins in the 15 Red, 17 Red and C and D Grade. We celebrated milestones for Kealeigh - 100 games and Kate - 200 games. both very loyal club people! With six of the matches decided by less than five goals it was great to see close, exciting netball.
to make our first ANZAC home game a success. It was a great scene to see the senior footballers, A Grade netballers and juniors from NWJFC lined up on the oval during the Last Post.
Our youngest netballers are continuing to improve each week, with our 13 Red girls going goal for goal before Beacy got and an edge in the final quarter to win by 4. Our young 13 White girls started with great first quarter effort before a more expereicned Beaconsfield took control.
This week we look forward to travelling to Tooradin for another action packed Saturday. A Grade is set to be match of the round, with both clubs favourites for Grand Final success.
Thank you to everyone who pitched in to get our first home game up and running. From BBQ to gate duty, your support, time and care is much appreciated.
The 15 Red game was fast paced, with Narre Warren building in the second half to take a strong 34-21 victory. Our 15 White girls fought out a defensive match, resulting in low scoring 16-11 loss. The 17 Red match was a grand final rematch with NW aiming to turn the result around. The girls were focused from the first whistle and held their narrow lead for four quarters, while working through many combinations. It was tough day at the office for the 17 White girls, who will be keen to reverse the result next time we meet. The four senior games were tight contests. D Grade went goal for goal for 3 and half quarters before NW took a narrow four goal lead. We wish Hayley Rae a speedy recovery after injuring her knee. C Grade built on each quarter to take a steady 11 goal win. 200 gamer, Kate Dowling was BOC, alongside Simone Potter for another gutsy defensive effort. B Grade had a rocky start, missing goals and opportunities to convert turnovers. The margin was a constant four goals until the last few minutes where NW pegged it back to two before Beaconsfield stretched the margin back to four. A Grade had an unsettled start, losing goaler, Tayla Shannon to an ankle injury in the first half. Best wishes to Tayla for a quick recovery. With a few changed to the line up and some timely intercepts by junior, Corrina Emery the girls edged their way back in to the tight contest. Beaconsfield controlled their narrow lead to run out winners by three. Congratulations to Bianca Sanzaro from Beaconsfield who was awarded the ANZAC medal by the umpires. Whilst not all the results fall our way on Saturday, there was positive vibe around the courts and ground with big crowds in attendance to show their respect during the moving ANZAC service. Thank you to the Berwick RSL for supporting NWFNC

A Grade: A whole new group of players taking the court this week, each and every one of them deserved that win. 4 consecutive quarters could have easily blown our score line out, however everything to gain and learn from for the next rounds. Nice work ladies B Grade: Not quite the result we wanted, back to basics we go ladies! Defence was just outstanding though. Gained us so much position, with intercepts, rebounds and tipping majority of balls that came into their half. Now let’s work on our connections in the attacking side and become team unstoppable. C Grade: With the likes of our shooting options crossed off the list even before we started, we went into our 2nd game with all the ladies doing a superb job at adjusting to somewhat unfamiliar territories. Positions needed to be shuffled to suit the game plan that was successfully executed. We were down by 5 after the first quarter and ended up having chase, but the girls were able to pull away in the third and fourth quarter, bringing home their 2nd win for the season, this was driven by a lot of team work, determination and positive vibes!
showed more versatility with in our team. The best on court today was Harmony or we should just call her ARMS. She had an amazing game. Great team effort girls U15’s Red: Started off really scrappy & the girls seemed nervous in the attack end. We had one goal this week & that was to control the ball & fight for everything. We welcomed a new strong midcourt player to our squad Leah Nguyen who didn’t disappoint, coming on to calm the play down. Best on court went to Adele Batten for her constant efforts in the midcourt & creating the play! Well done 13 Red, first win for the season and I’m sure there will be many more to come! You hit the ground running, you wanted it, you owned it and you never gave up despite only having 7. Fantastic effort by all players.
D Grade: Going off HP’s results last week & a much stronger side than what we have faced in previous years we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. First half saw the goaling end very shaky & it took a while to settle in against a strong & physical defence. Second half saw some changes all across the court & it worked. We never gave up, we chased every ball & we went at everything. Couldn’t be prouder of the way the girls conducted themselves on court and we deserved to come away with the 4 points! U17’s Red: Well Well Well 10:00 am means 10:00 am ladies! After a great team effort last week, I was just after effort and enthusiasm. After 1/4 time I got it, it rained, it poured but our girls kept doing the A.B.C. We spoke about just improving 1% to make us a better side. 1% over the whole team and girl did our girls deliver again. With Harmony Thomas and Chelyn Rakei stepping in and helping us out and doing a fantastic job. We locked the ball in, in our half creating turn over after turn over. All a coach can do is ask for effort and when our side try’s to do what I ask I’m very happy, win lose or draw...43-16 is a great result. Especially after being 7-7 at 1/4 time. The girls showing maturity and a will to work for each other. I am really looking forward to see where we end up this season..1% ladies Great work, well done. J.B. Out!!!! U17’s White: Well done on today’s game against Hampton Park. You were full throttle from the first whistle. Some of the training technics were showed on the court today. There were some amazing passages of play and today

Round 3. ANZAC round We hosted Tooradin for the ANZAC round. Our juniors lined up and showed their respect with a minutes silence for the men and women who have served our country. The day started out with a bit of drizzle but it did not deter our 13’s. Under 13 white got their first win for the season. The team putting in to practice the game plays they have been working on at training. It was an exciting last quarter resulting with a 1 goal win over Tooradin. Under 13 red had a tough game with only 7 players. Tough on the coaches and the players with no rotations available. They put some good pressure on Tooradin but unfortunately fell short of getting the win.
C grade. A great match against an experienced Tooradin side. Our young goalers stepped up to the challenge and stood strong the entire match. Great team work from the team coming back from being behind to take out the win. D grade. Another hard fought game with the physical demands of the game showing in our passing and movement in the last but each player stuck it out allowing them to win the match. Congratulations to our very own Sharni Lambden. Back to back gold at the under 19 National Championships Looking forward to some exciting matches this week as we take on the Doves. GO EAGLES!
Under 15 white. Great game for the team this week coming away with a 32 goal win. Well done girls. Under 15 red put in an awesome effort with every girl playing their role and playing for the team. Intense pressure and excellent ball use resulted in a very big win for the girls. Under 17 white. A good win by the girls although they didn’t play with their usual intensity. Looking forward to seeing them back and all fired up this week when we take on Doveton. Under 17 red. The girls had our biggest win of day. Fantastic effort by all the girls with winners in every position. Wonderful netball skills on show today. Well done girls. The rain held off for the seniors. A grade. Always a high pressure game in A grade. We had a little bit of a fade out in the 3rd quarter which saw Tooradin pull away but we fought back to win the last. Great team effort. Made your coach very proud. Congratulations to Tara Cecil receiving the ANZAC day award during the A grade match. B grade didn’t get the result they were wanting although they were moments of brilliance. We managed to fight back to get the score level with 5 minutes to go but Tooradin came back strong to get the win.
