This week is the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round where we celebrate the contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have made to Australian Football. This is the eleventh year the AFL community has celebrated Indigenous Round and the second time the Round has been celebrated since being renamed after Sir Doug Nicholls. The 2017 Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round holds a special significance, celebrating 50 years since the successful 1967 referendum where two references in the Australian Constitution, which discriminated against Aboriginal people, were removed. The Round also celebrates 25 years since the Mabo decision, named after Eddie Mabo, the man who challenged the Australian legal system and fought for recognition of the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional owners of their land. AFL Victoria continues to support the next generation of future Indigenous footballers with a number of Indigenous programs available across the state, including Laguntas, KickStart, Female Kickstart, Koorie NAB Auskick and the recently announced female Indigenous Boorimul Program. This week we see some interesting games that could really mix up the top 5 of the Seniors. Doveton - 2nd is hosting Berwick - 1st . If they upset Berwick, Doveton will stay in 2nd and be on equal points with Berwick. With Cranbourne - 3rd v Beaconsfield - 4th, Beaconsfield will be doing its best to make up for last week’s efforts, whilst Narre Warren - 5th take on Pakenham, we could see Narre Warren sneak up the ladder should they take the points

on the day. Tooradin-Dalmore coming in with fresh legs straight off a bye will be travelling to Hampton Park which will be a great match, and Officer will have a rest with the Bye. In the Reserves we see Narre Warren clear by 4 points to 2nd Berwick and 3rd Doveton, followed closely by Cranbourne in 4th and Beacy in 5th place. We could see some interesting changes in the ladder after this round. The U19s have three rounds left in their current format, after which the competition will split into two pools based on the top and bottom five. Match of the day will be Cranbourne A - 1st v Beaconsfield - 3rd. Narre Warren B had their first win of the season in Round 6 and will be looking forward to their encounter with Officer. Teams ranked 4th to 7th are currently all on 12 points, so this is a very important round for them. Berwick - 4th take on Doveton - 5th to decide 4th place. Doveton were very strong against Beaconsfield last round, so Berwick will need to bring their best game with them. In A Grade netball, we see Tooradin-Dalmore clear on top by 4 points, with Beaconsfield in 2nd place who are clear by 4 points to 3rd, 4th and 5th placed clubs. We could see the ladder get a lot closer after this round. In B Grade we see Beaconsfield on top by 2 points, followed by Narre Warren and TooradinDalmore on 18 points, with Doveton on 16 points in 4th place and Hampton Park just in the five on 12 points, followed by Pakenham also on 12 points. SEFNL’s U13 Representative Netball teams are playing in the Association Championships on Sunday at Frankston. Good luck to our teams and our coaches. Good luck to all teams for Round 7.

2017 Energy Safe Round WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country and Energy Safe Victoria are joining forces to spread a warning to country Victorians about the dangers of working around powerlines in the annual Energy Safe Round on Saturday May 27. Supporting country football in Victoria for the last six years, Energy Safe Victoria has created the Look up and Live campaign to remind country Victorians to be safe around powerlines. This season, AFL Goulburn Murray will host the annual Energy Safe Victoria event at Mansfield Recreation Reserve for the Round 6 Goulburn Valley Football Netball League clash between Mansfield and Benalla. While the dedicated game will be held in northern Victoria this year, Energy Safe’s message is extremely poignant to all country football communities. Energy Safe Victoria together with AFL Victoria ask all in country football to pay attention to this vital message – “Look up & Live” - and to observe the three metre safety zone around powerlines. AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper said safety on and off the field was important in country regions. “AFL Victoria believes the wellbeing and safety of those associated with country football

leagues is important, and it is imperative players, officials and volunteers across all football clubs stay safe whether it’s playing footy, at work or at home,” Reaper said. “Every day we have people in the football community working with tip trucks, boom sprayers, harvesters, tractors, pumps, hydraulic platforms and heavy machinery in the vicinity of powerlines. Take the time to look around you before you start working. “It could be the most important look of your life, and may mean you can enjoy another season of country footy with your family.” ESV Safety tips: To ensure the safety of workers and property owners Energy Safe Victoria advises people to take extra care to watch for powerlines if your work involves: • Using tall machinery, such as cranes or augers • Driving high vehicles • Raising the tipper tray of trucks • Raising equipment such as irrigation pipes overhead • Climbing on top of machinery or storage silos More information and safety tips can be found at www.esv.vic.gov.au

The Trail Of The Thin White Line… Ever wonder what it takes to be a boundary umpire? That’s the tick tocking clunk that goes on up in the brain every time a whippet flies past straddling that curved white line. Well you’ve already been ruled out. Remember back in primary where you used to walk the lines of a basketball like a tightrope? And there you have it…boundary umpiring. Just follow the trail of the thin white line… back and forth…back and forth. Screams…cries…boundary umpires everywhere who think they’re so much smarter than that. But honestly, what part of the brain says that running 18 long kms in belting sun, pouring rain or tornado like winds is smarter than sitting on a goal line under an umbrella with a pyramid of hotdogs? Just think about that… But you’d guess they must have some kind of importance…shouldn’t they? Well even though they were the last discipline introduced into league games back in 1904 they were given the power to report in 1909. A full 12 months prior to the goal umpires…and the boundaries go whack. Pity the goal umpires have four poled flags that make nice contact… But hey…they have value too. They’re like a winger. By far the flashiest looking player on the ground when they get the ball on the outside and glide done the boundary. And…guess flashy counts for something. So we may give them a bit. Say that they can’t throw. Say that they’re useless. But when it all comes down to it they’re probably the most valuable member of our group. Cause who else wants to continuously stride out up and down the boundary all day?

round 6 review

BERWICK 12.19.91 DEF PAKENHAM 10.5.65 Berwick welcomed Pakenham with many expecting a pretty one-sided encounter. It was Berwick who settled the better, amassing 12 scoring shots in the first quarter but only led by 26 points. Berwick’s talented midfield was on top, led by Madi Andrews who continued with his impressive start to the season. Pakenham have struggled after quarter-time in their recent matches but to their credit the Lions showed plenty of resolve. Rus Lehmann was working hard around goals, as the Lions managed to reduce the margin back to three goals by the main change. Berwick’s inaccurate kicking kept the margin close as both team exchanged goals in the third but Berwick managed to get their lead back beyond 4 goals by three quarter time. The Wickers had an even spread of goal kickers, Andrews was best on ground also finishing the day as leading goalkicker with 2 goals. The last quarter was very even, once again Pakenham managed to outscore their fancied rivals, while kicking their biggest score of the season. Lehmann and Chris Cardona combined for 6 goals but they were unable to reduce the margin from the first quarter deficit going down by 26 points.

BEACONSFIELD 6.11.47 LOST TO DOVETON 8.8.56 A fierce rivalry is being built between Beaconsfield and Doveton, their past few matches have been a tight physical contest with either team willing to give an inch. Today was no exception as the first quarter was very even, the pressure made it hard for either team to get into the game. Doveton kicked the first for the match through Milan Mandic. Lachie Modica hit back for the Eagles, but it was Lachie Batten who snuck a nice goal to give the visitors a lead at the quarter-time break. Connor Guley kicked the home-side back in front early in the second quarter. It was a hard fought contest with both teams trying to find the edge. Rus Gabriel and Scott Meyer was going hard at each other in the middle but they couldn’t provide the ascendancy to their midfield brigade. Beacy were unable to capitalise on their opportunities in front of goal. On the other hand, Doveton’s Kyle Hendy and former eagle Taylor Joyce kicked truly an extended their lead to 10 points at the half. Nick Battle kicked the first goal for the second half to take their lead out to 16 points as it appeared as the Doves were starting to take control of the match. The third quarter was the highest scoring quarter, Doveton managed to keep their margin at 23 points before Beacy had a flurry kicking three unanswered goals to bring them back into the contest. The game was so close the defensive side of each other games was on top, with the result still in doubt it was Sam Raru who kicked the only goal for the quarter which ended up as the sealer for Doveton. The Doves returned to Holm Park and reversed the result from last year’s finals series winning by 9 points.

OFFICER 10.4.64 LOST TO CRANBOURNE 13.12.90 Beautiful conditions for footy greeted both teams and it was shaping up as an interesting battle with so many questions to be answered. Cranbourne struck early off the boot of Max

Gearon as teams went for tit-for-tat early on before the return of Marc Holt gathered some momentum. The Holt Train didn’t take long to muster up some speed kicking two first quarter goals as the Eagles were in front by 14 points. Officer came out and took control of the game but were unable to capitalise on the scoreboard. The Kangaroos outmuscled and outplayed their opponents for most of the quarter, they just failed with their entries into their forward-line. Officer outscored Cranbourne by 1 point to have the margin back to 13 points but it should have been a lot closer at the main change. The third was a great contest, the ball went up and down the field as Officer looked to improve their status on the scoreboard. Officer looked great Blair Allan kicked his second and the game was on, before Holt stood tall inside forward 50 for Cranbourne. The inspirational leader was back and became a menace for young Kangaroo defender Jake Inglasio. Inglasio threw his body into every contest he just couldn’t curtail the brute force in Holt. Holt kicked two third quarter goals, to ensure the Eagles kept their noses in front. Matty Clarke was trying to inspire his own team, making the most from limited opportunities in-front of goal. Clarke took a great contested back and went back and slotted Officer’s eighth goal to give the underdogs some hope. Holt kicked another 2 goals to start the final term, taking his tally to 6 and extinguish any chance of an Officer revival. Clarke kicked his third for the match to add some respectability to the score line as the Eagles finished 26 points in front at the final siren.

HAMPTON PARK 6.3.39 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 38.20.248 A fired-up Narre Warren is never an easy task especially after questions were starting to be asked exactly where Narre sat in the early part of the season. Narre arrived with a point to prove and they silenced any doubters, with a solid performance. It’s become quite apparent it will be a while before we see a competitive Hampton Park outfit. The Redbacks have gone back to basics and have started a massive turnaround which will take a while before we see an improvement on the field. The first quarter was the closest in terms of the scoreboard, only 17 points separated both teams. The second quarter was all Narre and the start of the Scanlon Show. Nick and Stewart premiership heroes at the club really put in an unforgettable performance. A 15 goal second quarter saw the visitors blow the game out of the water, in one of the best quarters seen in a long time. We have seen some big scores kicked against the Redbacks but it was the first time this season they trailed by over 100 points before halftime. Narre were ultra-impressive as they continued to press and hit the scoreboard with relative ease. After scoring 15 goals in the second term, they backed it up with 9 goals taking the margin out beyond 150 points. Narre had 10 goal kickers, 8 of those players scored multiple goals. The Scanlon boys combined for a total of 21 goals, it’s been a while since we have had 2 players combine 11 and 10 goals in the same match. Their 21 goals led the 2014 premiers to their highest score in a very long time, Narre winning by 209 points.

round 7 preview

DOVETON (2ND 4-1) V BERWICK (1ST 5-0) Last Time - Round 18 Doveton 5.18.48 lost to Berwick 10.14.74 What a top of the table clash this will be, Doveton find themselves sitting second on the ladder after an impressive performance winning at Holm Park last week. The Berwick juggernaut continues to steamroll their opposition dictating how the games have been played. The Wickers are yet to be truly tested or even taking out of their comfort zone, can Doveton be the first team to do it?? The Doves will need to be at their ultimate best for a full 120 minutes, they pushed Cranbourne for three quarters they would need to reproduce an even better performance. Doveton’s strengths expose Berwick’s few weaknesses, they need to ensure they capitalise on every opportunity. Rus Gabriel will assert his dominance in the ruck and provide first use of the ball to the midfielders who will supply their potent forward line who will try and kick a winning score. Madi Andrews appears to have taken his game to a new level this season, he has recorded at least three best on grounds and his hitting the scoreboard with 5 goals this season. Berwick’s staunch defensive will be tested but will be looking to create interceptions and start their play off the half-back. Luke Sheppard is a vital cog on how Berwick move the football. Sheppard may get tagged but the hard running defender is hard to stop. Berwick is a formidable opponent to try and stop for four quarters and will capitalise on any errors created from their pressure. Berwick to win by 27 points.

CRANBOURNE (3RD 4-1) V BEACONSFIELD (4TH 4-2) Last Time - Round 16 Beaconsfield 8.5.53 lost to Cranbourne 9.16.70 Another great contest this round will be the battle of the big birds as the Eagles take on each other on at Casey Fields. Beaconsfield had their wings clipped after going down at home, while Cranbourne were tested at Officer. Cranbourne welcomed back inspirational leader Marc Holt, who booted 6 goals in his return. Holt’s return has eased the pressure off the small forward brigade who battled hard in the early parts of the season. Holt will be manned by experienced campaigner Daniel Battaglin, who will make it a tough day for the Cranbourne captain. Scott Meyer will be met by Michael Boland, both players play a similar brand, agile and tough. Meyer and Boland are like the fifth midfielder, they drift across the field and be used as an avenue to get the ball moving in their teams’ direction. Who can win the big man battle will go a long way to setup his side’s victory. Beacy have lost Daniel Mislicki to injury but this will provide an opportunity for a young eagle to step up into his place. Both sides have a plethora of midfield depth and you will see a high amount of rotations. Cranbourne probably have a slight edge with their depth, they can bring in big bodies like Ryan Davey and Shaun Marusic who can provide the grunt when required. Beaconsfield have introduced a new defensive style to their game, their press will be tested as Cranbourne’s small forwards have plenty of pace and can break the lines. Cranbourne will have a class edge at home and should win by 21 points.

NARRE WARREN (5TH 4-2) V PAKENHAM (8TH 0-5) Last Time - Round 18 Pakenham 5.7.37 lost to Narre Warren 21.17.143 Narre Warren made a statement last week winning by over 200 points, which should instil plenty of confidence back into the Magpies. Pakenham have struggled to play at a high level for four quarters, but last week the young Lions played a lot better, outscoring the ladder leaders two out of the four quarters. Pakenham will not find this an easier task, the Magpies can maul their opposition when given the opportunity. Nick and Stewart Scanlon combined for 21 goals last week with the right supply, the Scanlon boys can be hard to stop. Pakenham have some quality defenders like Sam Blackwood who will be looking to nullify Narre’s forward line presence. The Lions are blessed with some big bodies who can bash and crash with the best of them, whichever team can gain the ascendancy in the middle will shift the game into their favour. Narre will have the class edge and their tall forwards like Jake Richardson will stretch Pakenham’s defence and kick a winning score. Pakenham will fight for as long as they can, their supporters will be hoping they can build on what they saw last week, kicking their highest score of the season. Rus Lehmann can drift forward and is a dangerous weapon on his day but he will need some support if they are to remain competitive. Narre will need to win again to keep their momentum going and should be too classy at home. Narre by 47 points.

HAMPTON PARK (9TH 0-6) V TOORADIN (7TH 1-4) Last time - Round 16 Hampton Park 8.10.58 lost to Tooradin 12.15.87 Hampton Park welcome Tooradin in a match where the Redbacks should consider them an outside chance for an upset. Tooradin can be their own worst enemies at times this season. The Seagulls have been in winning positions but have failed to capitalise, they have a great crop of top-line talent and will be buoyed by the return of Nathan Page. Goal kicking midfielders are hard to come by, Page has plenty of tricks and will look to add to Tooradin’s potency. Page will complement the likes of Andrew Dean and Nick Lang and will definitely improve Tooradin’s prospects. Hampton Park have their own crop of talented youngsters who are relishing the chance of playing senior footy. The scoreboard reflects a different story but each week players like Harrison Paul and Hayden Brough continue to grow as footballers. If Tooradin don’t pay them the respect they deserve they could be in for a shock away from home. Tooradin haven’t played a game of football for close to three weeks and could suffer from ring rust early but you would imagine they will find their feet pretty quickly. Asiaske O’Hailpin is a big unit and will dominate provide first use of the football to the Seagulls. His dominance will setup up the visitors the chance of victory and they can’t afford to let this opportunity slip. Tooradin have the talent it’s now time for them to show it before becoming irrelevant. Tooradin to win by 75 points.

Last weekend we travelled down to Beaconsfield which was always going to be a massive round of Football and Netball. Our U19’s were up against a super strong Beaconsfield side and to their credit we could not be any more prouder of our boys. We threw every single thing we had at Beaconsfield & we refused to give up. In the end we only went down by 24 points. Solid performances by Sam Morgan, Tyson Bellinger and Jake Nicholson. Keep up the amazing efforts on the field boys.

with a 9 point victory and have now secure 2nd spot on the ladder! Amazing performances by Ryan Hendy and Frank DĂ gostino down back which helped up hold our lead. Whilst Nick Battle, Malis Lokeron and Matt Jamo were also instrumental throughout the 4 quarters. We now prepare for our biggest game yet, Berwick at home! Go Doves!

The reserves side suffered their first loss for the season against Beaconsfield who just proved too strong for us. Some more accurate kicking down forward and it would have been a completely different game. Well done to Cameron Bowman, Aaron Henwood and Shaun Semmens who all played amazing games. Our seniors have finally broken the curse again Beaconsfield and what a win it was!! We had the lead early and looked promising. By the last third quarter Beaconsfield started creeping back in but we stayed steady and came away

Last week saw us up against a fired up Pakenham unit. We certainly were not at our best both skill wise and in front of goal. Scrappy game but all credit to Pakenham who never let up all day. For our guys 3 games in roughly 7 weeks has made it tough to get some continuity in our game. As of now we have a few games straight so am confident it will all come together.

This week sees us up against a much improved Doveton team on their home patch. With the cobwebs out it will be a great opportunity be at our best and get ourselves a few games clear. EOFYS

The reserves and 19s also had strong wins which made it a great day for the club.

Remember guys its the end of the year so no better time to get down to Berwick Mazda and see Marc Handley for a great deal. They are great sponsors and will be sure to help you out.

Also congratulations to the netballers who are seeing the fruits of their youth policy. Great Saturday all round.

Casino Royale tonite: Lets have a great night and hope its a celebration of 3 wins

Seniors – A big win over a gutsy and determined opponent, the highlight was Narre’s 16 goal second quarter where all the pieces clicked into place and we played the type of footy you aspire to every week. Nick Scanlon (11 goals for the match) and Stewie Scanlon (10) made it a historic day to remember; Tommy Miller was impressive on debut; Trent Papworth played a great four quarters in the ruck, and Staggy stepped up in the midfield and got plenty of the footy. Well done to Hampton Park. Their players, coaching staff, volunteers and supporters are amazing for their collective effort and determination. Reserves - Narre’s Twos built a 6-goal lead by quarter time, and from there we weren’t challenged -really pleased with team first attitude from players with plenty of rotations and positional changes during game , 12 individual goal kickers and good contribution from our first year players. Daniel Jackson continued his good form with 7 goals; Dean Scanlon kicked 4; Troy Mengler is an impressive developing ruck option and Mitch Tonna and Corie Intveen were also major contributors. Under 19 A – Narre 19A’s played Cranny B’s at Officer bright and early Saturday morning in slippery conditions. The boys took a while to adapt but came good and played 4 pretty good quarters of footy, winning by 128 points. Jack Flannery was very good kicking 6 goals with the other goals shared between 9 players. Other good players were Jake Boccari, Matty Jerem, Kyle Graham and Tommy Toner. Under 19 B – Our Narre B side travelled as the away team to Hampton Park to face Tooradin. Both teams were searching for their first win of the season and as expected both sides attacked the ball hard.

By Q time Tooradin had a narrow lead and by half time it had reversed with our boys showing promising signs .It was a hungry, determined Narre side after half time and got the game on their terms with strong ball movement and a relentless midfield which allowed the forwards to hit the scoreboard, giving our young Narre boys a handy lead at 3 QT. With victory number #1 in sight, our boys continued the great work into the last Q eventually running out winners by 55 points. It was well deserved and great to hear the boys sing the team song. Barney showed his brilliance and freak skill ability as our best on the day. His 4 goals and work around the ground efforts was outstanding. Kyle Contencin chipped in with 3 goals of his own and was among the best on the day along with Tom Collard, Jamie Caruana and Josh Collett. Thanks to Hampton Park for hosting the game and to Tooradin to agreeing to the venue change. There was good support for both sides and it shows how the SEFNL clubs can all work together. Masters Congratulations to the Masters who had another great win on Sunday . Best on Ground was a toss-up between Joffa & Grubbo with Skidsy , Richo & Cippa all great contributors. Some sore bodies Monday for sure. Social Notes – Well done to Darren Dwyer who organised our very successful Berwick Mazda Corporate lunch last Friday. The entertainment was great; attendance was an all-time high ensuring a good financial result and a great time had by all.

Last weekend the Senior side were competitive against one of the leagues premier teams in Berwick. Berwick certainly didn’t have it all their own way and it was great to see the young boys really having a crack throughout the game. The reserves were severely outclassed and have plenty of work to do in the coming weeks against some tough opposition, while in the Under 19s, they were outplayed for the majority of the game. Last weekend in glorious conditions for football we hosted Narre Warren. The boys started the game quite well and held there own in the first quarter. Second quarter bigger bodies of Narre got on top and put the game beyond doubt. The second half was similar to first, boys started the third quarter really well and once again held their own before Narre got on top again. Keep your heads up lads, as each game goes by we can see improvement. Better players on the day were H Paul, Y JafferWilliams, A Holden, CJ Layfield, L O’Brien & T Ziegeler. The reserves had a similar effort, some lads returning from long injury lay offs had there first run in quite a few weeks and will be better for it. YOu cannot question the effort that both teams put in and that is what we are looking for at this stage. Better players on the day were J Thurwood, J Viney, T Kerr, J Ashwood, N Dawes & B Keyzer.

round 6 netball review

BEACONSFIELD 50 DEF DOVETON 39 BERWICK 53 DEF PAKENHAM 41 HAMPTON PARK 37 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 47 ROC 37 LOST TO CRANBOURNE 55 It seems 50 is the elusive number you need to get too to win the game of netball. The top 3 teams are currently averaging close to 50 goals a game and have won 3 or more matches. It was no exception in Round 6 with all 4 winning sides shooting close to 50 goals or more in their wins. Berwick secured their first 4 points of the season in emphatic style defeating Pakenham at home by 12 goals. Berwick have been working hard all season just falling short a few times in matches this year. Pakenham came out of the blocks well, their midcourt using the ball well to give them a 10-9 lead at the first change. It took a while for the Wickers to settle due to a few personnel changes due to VNL and other issues made for an adjustment period as the girls got used to playing with each other. The Wickers win was setup with a dominant second quarter. A 15-6 term was all the Wickers needed to find some confidence and propelled them towards victory. Beaconsfield first half was simply sublime. The Eagles were at their dominating best and doubled Doveton’s score to lead 16-8 by quarter-time. The Eagles continued their dominance shooting one of the highest first half scores of the shooting 33 goals to 16 at halftime. Beacy had too many winners across the court with Ash Gill controlling the middle while Dani Cameron held tight in defence with

Bianca Sanzaro was at her accurate best in front of goal. Doveton came out after halftime showing plenty of fight in the second half. Led by Leah Seeto in attack, who scored 21 of Doveton’s 23 goals after the main break. The Doves managed to outscore Beaconsfield 2317, eventually going down by 11 goals as the Eagles remain in second on the ladder. Narre Warren are starting to build into the season. Narre still find themselves 2 games off top spot but were too good for another finals contender Hampton Park. Narre’s midcourt were working overtime to ensure the supply was kept up to their attackers. Kaeleigh Brown and Chloe Phillips were finding the ball close to goal. The Magpies wrestled the momentum their way during the second term outscoring the home side 16-10. Hampton Park stayed in the contest but couldn’t get themselves close enough to put any pressure on last year’s premiers. The Redbacks loss as put the girls back amongst the pack and face some must win matches to stay in the finals picture. Cranbourne brought their A-Game to Starling Rd and put on a clinic. The Eagles have played some outstanding netball already this season and this weekend was no exception. Once again Cranbourne’s midcourt was on fire with Natalie Sparks and Steph Ryan getting the ball quickly into the shooters circle. Tegan Stahl and Tahlia Coates caused headaches for the ROC defence, Courtney Linhart and Laura Quinn battled hard but were under pressure due to the intense ball movement from the Eagles. The Eagles weren’t challenged in their 18 goal win with ROC now finding themselves with a fight on their hands to remain in the finals picture.

Round 7 netball preview

DOVETON (5TH 3-2) V BERWICK (7TH 1-4) Doveton will go into the contest as favourites after a gallant performance against Beaconsfield last weekend. Doveton have a never give up attitude which has seen them battle out all their matches this season. The Doves welcome Berwick who will be stock full of confidence after recording their first win of the season. The Wickers haven’t been far away all season pushing most opponents without getting a well-deserved 4 points. Doveton have a lot riding on this encounter they need to secure the win to keep themselves in the 5 and extend the gap between them and sixth place. Doveton should have the class edge against Berwick, but will need to put in a consistent four quarter to ensure Berwick don’t get a sniff of victory and cause an upset away from home. Doveton by 17 goals.

CRANBOURNE (4TH 3-2) V BEACONSFIELD (2ND 5-1) The contest between the girls in blue and gold shapes as the match of the round. Beaconsfield were sublime last week dismantling Doveton early in the first half to setup their fifth win of the season. Cranbourne themselves have had an impressive start to season 2017 and will be looking to carry that momentum into this contest at home. Beaconsfield have added experience to their depth this season and some of their seasoned stars have help take them to new levels this season. Cranbourne will be trying to shut down Beaconsfield attack with the likes of Tara Cecil trying to nullify the influence of Beaconsfield’s goalers. Cranbourne will need to try and reduce their error rate keeping the ball out of Beacy’s hands. Beaconsfield will have the edge with experience and will be tough but Cranbourne at home will be right in the thick of things until the end. Beaconsfield by 6 goals.\

NARRE WARREN (3RD 3-2) V PAKENHAM (9TH 0-5) Narre was sitting on top of the netball perch as the benchmark of the competition but it seems that other clubs have caught up or passed the impressive Magpies outfit. That’s not writing them off so early in the season but like most clubs they have plenty of work to do with the competition being so tight. Pakenham had the opportunity to secure their first win of the season against Betwick last week but let the opportunity slip. Offence has been an issue for the Lions as they have struggled to hit the scoreboard, and the task won’t be any easier this week. Narre have the third best defence complimented by the second best offence in the competition averaging 50 goals a game. Narre put up 64 goals recently and will be looking for something similar again at home. Narre by 31 goals.

HAMPTON PARK (6TH 2-4) V TOORADIN (1ST 5-0) Hampton Park have been a touch inconsistent in the start of the season, this is mainly to the influx of new players as Coach Kylie Kibbles looks for the best system to maximise the girls potential. The Redbacks have had a tough few matches after securing backto-back wins they pushed both Beaconsfield and Narre Warren but just falling short. Hampton Park’s task doesn’t get any easier welcoming Tooradin who come into the contest on the back of nearly a 3 week break. Tooradin have arrived as a netball club but early season achievements mean very little if you don’t capitalise on the perfect start. Nobody has scored more offensively and defended as well as the Seagulls. Tooradin are averaging close to 53 goals a game while conceding only 32, that’s an average winning margin over 21 goals. You can break that down even further and suggest they are at least a 5 goal better team each quarter then their opposition. They are some wonderful statistics but will need to reproduce their form after a 3 week hiatus. Tooradin are well drilled and looking to start off where they left things back in round 5. Tooradin to win by 21 goals

Last week we played ROC. It was a beautiful sunny morning for our junior teams. Both our 13 & 15 teams show determination and a never give up attitude while playing against some very strong opposition.

Once again it was down to the wire; although the result was a 1 goal loss the girls played some amazing netball and they had the spectators on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately D Grade didn’t get the win against ROC. The team played well but ROC proved to be the stronger team.

With having two weeks off it was a bit of a slow start for the 17 Red team. Some great passages of play but fell short of the win.

All teams will be training hard during the week and we are looking forward to taking on Beaconsfield.

Great win for the 17 White team.

Thank you to our sponsors:

Four solid quarters with each player putting in their all. All round team effort showing some quality netball.

A Grade: An awesome display from our A grade side with everyone winning their position. The goalers were unstoppable. Our defenders were strong and applied non-stop pressure throughout the match. The mid court was outstanding and relentless. Wonderful team spirit and smiles all round. Well-deserved win. Well Done girls.

GO EAGLES!!

B Grade: Some great moments during the game. Some great defence and so many deflections but just couldn’t convert them into goals. Another exciting game for our C grade team.

A Grade consolidated their spot in 2nd position, with a convincing win over Doveton. Our first half we were able to put together some great passages of play. Unfortunately, we missed out on a real good opportunity to put together a great 4 qtr performance against quality opposition. We need to learn from this game & the importance of putting together a 4 qtr performance against teams we’re fighting for finals positions with. Well done to Tanya Mijovic on making her A Grade debut & having a strong influence on the game. B Grade welcomed Doveton for what is always a tough match up. In warm conditions the game was a close match with each team taking small leads into each of the breaks. Unfortunately we were unable to continue our good form, suffering a loss to a strong Doveton line up. Not our best week, but we will be ready to bounce back for our game against Cranbourne.

After a week off the U15 Red team had a slow start in the 1st half. A few changes on the court in the second half saw a great fight back by the girls. Our midcourt moved the ball down the court with some great passing and some impressive intercepts. Awards-Chelsea, Millie & Alix. U15 White had a slow start with the game being tight after the first qtr. As the game progressed we came away from the opposition which the scoreline reflected. Great composure was shown along with passages of play. Awards-Kayla, Sophie W & Paige. U13 Red-After a break last week we had a very unfocused start to the game. With basic errors & plays not being utilised. With a few changes at half time the girls came out firing with an increasing will to play stronger & from the beacy heart.

Awards-Charlotte.

Awards: Kasey & Jamie.

C grade had a close win against Doveton. It was a scrappy game from both sides with quite a few turnovers in beautiful conditions. We managed to claw ahead in the last qtr after the scores were tight all game.

13 White-This round was a great opportunity to focus on all the team structures that have been building since the beginning of the season. The girls were fantastic at set plays, timing, placement of the ball & making great decisions when passing. It is pleasing to see players respond to feedback given & put it into action. Well done for disciplined play & for exceptional sportsmanship.

Awards-Caity, Maddie & Paris. D Grade-Round 6 saw us come up against Doveton. As we were both sitting on the same points we knew we were up for a challenge. We came out strong with a great half of netball however on the downside Tianah went down with an ankle injury just before half time. Our 3rd qtr was not one of our best allowing the opposition to dictate the play. With a quick pep talk & a few changes the girls went out in the last qtr & turned things around & played our game. Thanks to Zara for filling in. Awards-Shelley, Kahrynn & Emily.

Awards-Lauren, Bella & Aleisha.

17 Red-It was evident during the first half that this game was going to be a physically tough, close battle. Shooting inaccuracy & too many turnovers saw Doveton capitalise & get the better of us. Awards-Charlotte, Ebony & Em K. 17 White-The girls put together a fantastic game this week. The girls held their heads high & played with Beacy spirit. After a tight first qtr the girls put their foot down working together as a team to take a comfortable lead to half time. Kasey & Brodie combined great together holding strong & shooting with great confidence. The midcourt provided strong drive hitting the circle edge, whilst the defence applied pressure forcing many turnovers from the Doveton attackers. Awards: Kasey, Abhi & Brodie.

Narre Warren travelled to Hampton Park for eight competative games of netball. Our 13 Red side got their first win on the board for season 2017! The 15 Red girls continue to impress, improving each week. Both of our 17s sides produced BIG victories. This group of girls are working hard at training and it is paying off on court. The senior games were four close matches. D grade had to fight hard to shake off a persistent Hampton Park side. Juniors Caitlyn and Taylah stepped in to provide goaling options. Well done to both ladies! C grade experimented with new combinations and built with each quarter. B grade added some youth to their bench and produced some pleasing plays. The attacking end moved more freely, creating more scoring opportunities. Thank yoo

Tamika, Hayley and Maddie for joining B grade. A Grade was a tight battle, with Narre Warren getting the upper hand in the second quarter. The game continued to be close but the discipline and control of the A grade side came through. Well done to Kealeigh who stepped up to play GA in A Grade. With several players unavailable due to VNL commitments an/or injury it was great to see player take their opportunity when asked to step up! Well done to 13s player, Annabel who featured at the Melbourne Vixens game on Sunday. Annie was the winner of the RACV 3/4 time entertainment, winning the running race and obsatcle course! This week we host Pakenham at home. We welcome the Lionesses to Fox Road and hope for ten competative games of netball.

It was great to have our dedicated President Jen back this week supporting all players and coaches - thank you Jen! Congratulations to all our U/13 training partners who played their first games for Pakenham on Saturday and well done to our Under 13 coaches Hayley and Emma who had 4 or 5 of their regular players playing up. A big thankyou to our U/15 coaches who worked together to ensure both U/15 teams had enough players to replace the large quantity of girls who were not available due to camp, illness & injury. The club extends its best wishes to all those players who were ill or injured and wishes you a speedy recovery. Fantastic work to all players who stepped up to play for a higher graded team or age group this week, this willingness to put the club’s best interests first proves your sportsmanship and dedication to Pakenham. Well done to all involved. This week sees another challenging set of matches across all age groups and divisions. Our coaches and players are continuing to work hard at training and we will have stronger availability this Saturday with players returning from camps. Our thanks to all parents and club members who continue to support the Netball Club in a positive way, it is very appreciated.

A Grade: 4 consistent quarters with strong basics, is the standard target to keep in any game. Finishing strong in the last quarter is just not suitable at this level! Lets learn and achieve In the next round vs Berwick B Grade: Super Duper proud coach, not only did we end the undefeated run against a quality side. The attitude, support, composure and just the overall team vibe made it a strong deserving win! Congratulations ladies C Grade: Even though we lost, you came out feeling like you won! You gave Beacy girls a good run for their money! From C grade never being able to beat Beacy and always losing by 20-30 points, a 4 point loss is a 4 point win in my eyes! We can only go up from here. Very proud coach! Congratulations my Doves! D Grade: Again started off super shaky and couldn’t gain any movement in the ball for the first half, Beaconsfield going into the half time break 12 goals up. Lots of changes in the third saw us claw our way back into the game and we entered the fourth quarter on 2 goals down. Whilst we didn’t come away with the win, we know what we need to work on at training this week.

was amazing! Beaconsfield came back late in the game, but we held our own nicely! Well done ladies – super win!!! 15 White: Tough game today girls against the top of the ladder side! You guys made them work hard for the win and I am incredibly proud of the way you guys put some amazing passages of play together! Your attitude on court this week was something the club can be proud of and they way u guys encouraged each other! Week to week we are getting stronger and I feel only a matter of time we pull off a win. Well done girls. 13 Red: You little legends!!! Coming up against 3rd and walking away with a draw shows we have what it takes to go all the way. Well done girls! 13 White: Well girls what can I say what a tough game to watch Beaconsfield we’re just too strong for us today. I’m incredibly proud of the way you keep playing and never gave up always giving your best

berwick Our Round 6 clash against Pakenham last week, proved to be one of the most rewarding rounds for the Wickers, with the girls coming away with 7 out of 10 wins. After the threat of torrential rain all week for Saturday, each team made the most of the sunshine and perfect conditions, and managed to piece together everything we have been working on, both as a club and individual teams, up until this point. C Grade got off to a flying start, recording their best first quarter for the season. Welcoming a few new and old faces into the team. Jaime Cotter, Saahara Usman and Caitlin Anthony, seemed to help gel the girls across the whole court and gave them a spark in their urge to secure their first win. The defensive pressure down the whole court provided the girls with numerous scoring opportunities, from which the goaling combination of Georgia & Katie definitely capitalised. With a final score of 3710, it showed the potential within this team and gives a little taste of what is to come.

determination to step out each week and show other teams what they’ve got. We hope to carry this momentum and positivity into Round 7 as we travel to Doveton, for what is not only going to be a long day, but a great day of netball for our teams! We wish to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors of BNC - local builders, Fairhaven Homes, Straight Smiles, Berwick Mazda, Mr Andrew Tang, Rochet Kitchens, Future Finance Group, Amega Financial Solutions & Bakers Delight Fountain Gate.

Another Wicker team got their first win of the season last week, with our D grade girls putting together a strong 4 quarter performance and coming away with a 25-11 victory. Coach Mikaela Greer has been putting in the hard yards with these girls, hoping to make them the best they can be and realise the talent within each of them. The defence combination of Hayley Trait and Sarah O’Hagan worked tirelessly all game, gaining many intercepts and tips for the rest of their team. Each week, this group of girls are improving and gaining more skills to implement in their games, we as a club could not be any more proud of their

U13s played a very tall Narre Warren and unfortunately lost 25/11. Passing and not enough drive to the ball let us down today. Defensively we were good. Well done Sharna, Sophie, Ethan and Ellarnah your pressure created a lot of turnovers. Everyone tried really hard but player of the day would have to be our captain Tara for a great effort all day and never giving up. You second efforts were fantastic. Our 15s came up against a fast-paced Narre team who left with a convincing win. Our girls battled it out, but Narre were just too good. Back to training and we’ll regroup for next week. Keep your heads-up girls, we are a young team and that determination you all have will pay off. Thanks to Ellarnah for filling in and we all hope Ruby’s on the mend and we can see her back on court soon. I had the privilege of taking the U17s Red as Courtney Debono was unwell. With the help of injured players Bianca and Tayla we had the task of trying to hold the strength of Narre Warren back. The girls continuously fought but Narre fought that little harder. We had done great passages going and the goalers rewarded every chance. Credit to the girls with injuries and playing with fill ins, that slotted in well might I add, they keep their heads up and continued to press on. D grade didn’t play the best game for the season but to finish not far off the raining premiership team by only handful of goals was impressive when we play at our best I know we can beat them next time round we just need to work as a team. special mention to Kayla Uildriks and Tayla Jean for working around and listening and doing as I say, best on Victoria Hitchcock for absolute amazing defense and Chrissy Lee Barcos for 88% shooting accuracy, also welcome Julianne Wilkie.

C grade came out strong unfortunately loosing Belinda Giouskos in the 1st 2 mins of the game due to blood rule didn’t help us as a team but still pushed on. Unfortunately, Narre Warren showed us how to back each other up and we will learn from it. Best on is Bev for listening and changing game play to suit and Katlin for patience and good feeds into the ring. B-grade today we started to see signs of the positive work at training coming through in patches. Playing a strong and well drilled Narre Warren team we knew we were in for a tough game from the start. Playing hot and cold and all at different times we just couldn’t find a way to gel today. Staying mostly positive everyone stayed supportive of each other which is great signs of a team that is coming together. The girls will keep putting in the effort at training and we still have a long way to go this season. Best on ground was Shannesy Hilder. A grade we came out strong but unfortunately with 4 VNL players playing 3 VNL games in 3 days showed our tried bodies and fatigue on court but still stood up to the premiership team. Great work from Karli with 14 intercepts and to Kassidy working endlessly throughout the court. Special mention to Chloe to racing back to make it, you showed speed and patience on court. After winning 2nd half unfortunately still going down to a strong side I believe after showing them what we are made of next time round it will be a different story. We wish Kara Hargraves all the best with her injury.

Another beautiful sunny saturday saw us taking on cranbourne had home and WOW the 13 RED team put on a show with the best four quarter team game by all players this year on our fantastic new courts. It all began with an incredibly strong preparation and understanding of our jobs on court in pre game discussion and further developed by a switched on warm up with all players excelling our team values – so much voice, trust, confidence, commitment, encouragement and team work. This positive energy transferred on court with a red hot first quarter to set up a strong win. Well done goalers on continuing to shoot with impressive 90% accuracy. Well done mid courters for mixing up centre pass set ups and creating brilliant space into attack. Well done defenders for dictating and delaying with such commitment and domination. Such a pleasure to watch!

even more focused than usual knowing that this week was an important game and possible turning point for C grade. Perfect playing weather resulted in a fast moving game. Like most of our games this season there has only ever been a few goals in it qtr by qtr. The girls were determined to step up and show that we are a finals worthy team. With some impressive individual games the girls rallied behind each other starting the last qtr 1 goal down and pushing themselves to their limits to get us across the line with a one goal win over Cranbourne with seconds left in the game. Outstanding efforts by all players. Congratulations to Kaisha for best on court.

AWARDS: BOC: Amelie Team Values: Ella Go 13 Red 13 WHITES came out firing ! This being our first game with a full team of 10 the girls had to adapt to the constant changes made on court, and do so extremely well. Our overall defensive pressure forced many turnovers, where we saw some very quick, smart plays down the court. This resulting in our 47-point win against Cranbourne. While we still have to work on our angles our goalers really improved on boxing out the opposition within the ring as well as following through their shots.

The ROC netball club is once again hosting Bogan bingo, following the success from last year. Pull on your flannies and uggies to enjoy the entertainment provided by a professional duo, win some totally awesome prizes, and have a kick a*#e night. We encourage all of our netball community, friends and family to come along to support our major fundraising event for the year. Whilst we encourage junior participation under the supervision of guardians, please be aware that some of the content may be adult rated. Tickets are $30pp, tables of 10. BYO nibbles and drinks! Contact Emma for tickets or info ejbeard@live.com.au Remember to ROC your finest bogan attire! When : Saturday June 17 at 7 PM Where: Pakenham Library corner of John & Henry street Pakenham

Best on court this week was Maia whose constant determination and drive on court pushed the other girls to followed suit. C GRADE kept everyone on the edge of their seats this week ! Missing two players and following a big movement within the team we kicked of training
