Welcome to Round 8 of the SEFNL Berwick Motor Group Premiership Season. Last week we celebrated Indigenous Round, where we looked at the wonderful contributions that our Indigenous people have made to our games and the community in general. Well done to all clubs who took the opportunity to promote and celebrate the round. We are now certainly in the thick of the season, with all ladders in both football and netball taking shape it will now be an interesting run towards finals. Last weekend our Under 13 Open SEFNL Representative Netball side won the Central East Association Championships for their age group, which now qualifies them to play in the finals of the 2017 Netball Victorian Association Championships on Sunday 25th June. It was a fabulous effort by the girls in very wintry conditions. Congratulations to the girls and their coach, Katrina Foster. The U/15 & U/17’s get their chance this Sunday to showcase the talent we have in SEFNL. Good luck to the teams and coaches. As we are fast approaching the half way point, it is important to remember
to take care of your volunteers. The people in your club that run around each week putting out the bins, setting up the canteen, sewing up the jumpers, are the real heart and soul of our clubs. Take a moment to think about how you could take over one of these jobs at your club to help. There are plenty of ways to help. Just ask someone who is doing a job while you are standing around drinking your coffee or sitting warmly in your car waiting for the game to start. Thank you to all our volunteers. You help because you love your club and without you the costs of running a club would be much higher. Remember next week is Queen’s Birthday weekend and there will be no matches played, so enjoy the week off before we tackle the second half of the season. Further themed rounds coming up: • Bye: 10th June - Queen’s Birthday Weekend • Round 11: 1st July – White Ribbon Round That’s all from the SEFNL desk this week, best of luck to all teams for this week!

Football Facility Funding Available Football and netball clubs in regional Victoria and on the metropolitan fringe can now apply for funding to rejuvenate their sports facilities through the Country Football Netball Program.
facilities to support not only the growth, but the changing profile of participation.”
Through the program, the Victorian Government has teamed up with AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to fund a range of facility developments for country football and netball clubs across the state.
The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is a Victorian Government funding program that helps provide high quality, accessible community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria.
This new round continues the great work of helping regional clubs, and clubs on the metropolitan fringe, who may be struggling with outdated, over-used or weatherdamaged facilities.
The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund has a range of different categories, some of which include:
Grants of up to $100,000 are available for projects that improve facilities, including change room overhauls, replacement of droughtaffected turf, and installation of court lighting. Since 2005, the Country Football Netball Program has kicked in over $23 million to more than 460 projects. This has delivered much needed infrastructure upgrades and given clubs the infrastructure they need to grow. AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper has urged eligible football and netball clubs to apply for funding through their local councils. “This program has been incredibly effective in assisting clubs to upgrade and modernise their facilities. As participation in the game continues to grow, so does the need for
In addition, community sports clubs can also access funding from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
• Major Facilities – Grants of up to $650,000 are available to develop or upgrade major district and regional sport and recreation facilities • Minor Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 for any one project are available for community sport and recreation groups, working in partnership with local government, to develop or upgrade community sport and recreation facilities. • Female Friendly Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 are available to build new and upgrade existing, outdated change facilities that cater for female sport, with a focus on promoting female and family friendly environments. If Ya Love The Umpires And Ya Know It, Clap Your Hands... ...And silence. Could hear a pin drop on a pile of luxury goose feather and down pillows. Couldn’t at least one person have clapped? Wishful thinking hey?
Upcoming events IPOD SHUFFLE NIGHT Saturday June 10th. Don’t forget to purchase your winning song.
Umpires. Just checked the Oxford dictionary and this is what it read - the root of all evil…You either hate them or…you hate them. When was the last time someone openly voiced their love of an umpire?
When: Sunday July 30.
On Monday evening the goalies had a lawn bowls night at Cranbourne Bowls Club. A bit of bonding and a new diet of pizza, steering away from the 4 hotdogs consumed game day. A good night was had by all. One of the topics of conversation was the crowd favourite the prim donnas the field umpire. We have had our stab at the young and occasionally not so young boundary umpires, so today it’s the field umpires turn.
Golf day.
Where: Bembridge 9 hole golf course. 125 Tyabbtooradin road, Somerville. Time: 10 o’clock start please arrive at 9:15 so we can get organised. $18 green fees to be paid by each player, buggy and club hire available please speak to Matt Craig or Ross Lewis to arrange this prior to the day. BBQ lunch will be provided after the event. There will be teams of 4 organized for the day, if you are wanting to enter a team please drop Matt Craig an email at eventscp.sua@gmail.com.
The question was asked. What is the most important thing for a field umpire? Is it their fitness, knowledge of the game, being able to bounce the ball, their whistle, red or yellow cards or their uniform? The simple answer is no to the above. After several years of watching the leaders of our group the simple answer is their hair.
Get Involved SUA are always on the lookout for those crazy individuals who want to become umpires. It takes a certain type of person to want to umpire, but those people who take the brave step, often benefit greatly from all umpiring offers. If you love the game and you want to keep fit, learn life skills, meet new friends and earn some money then umpiring is for you.
We have some with magnificent manes, others that are bald or almost there and others with a magnificent silver shade (no names Jacko). Then there are the field umpires with one or four colours running through their hair (Tammy). The best one of all however belongs to one of our young and upcoming umpires. I call it the just got out of bed hair. This young man’s hair is everywhere however there is so much product in it that it doesn’t move no matter how hard the wind is blowing. Zach Brasier you are an inspiration to us all.

HAMPTON PARK 6.9.45 LOST TO TOORADIN-DALMORE 29.18.192 Hampton Park faced Tooradin in a match many expected them to be more competitive in, but it was the visitors who made the better start kicking five goals to one to have a 28 point lead by the first break. Tooradin welcomed back livewire Nathan Page and boom recruit ex-Carlton player Sentanta O’Hailpin. The combination brought instant success as The Seagulls went to work against the Redbacks in the second quarter. Tooradin managed to boot 10 goals to three and increase their lead to 71 points by the main change. The Redbacks defence had no answer to the big man from Ireland who was clunking everything in sight. Page was relishing being back out on the park, at his peak he would be in the top 3 small forwards, but unfortunately for the Gulls, they haven’t got the best out of him due to injuries. Yarran Jaffer-Williams is a name to remember. Jaffer-Williams has been a shining light all season for Hampton Park, from the seven games this season, he has been in their bests six times including 3 best on grounds. Jaffer-Williams worked hard but he couldn’t stop the wave of Tooradin runners feeding their potent attack. The second half was all Tooradin, with the visitors kicking 14 goals to two. O’Hailpin and Page amassed 21 goals between as Tooradin kicked 29 goals. The other 8 goals coming from their other forwards, while Hampton Park finished the match with youngster Harry Paul as their leading goal scorer with 2. The result wasn’t too unexpected but the way Tooradin did it would have surprised many winning by 147 points.
NARRE WARREN 17.15.117 DEF PAKENHAM 6.14.50 Narre Warren looking for their first win at home this season welcomed Pakenham, who themselves had been suffering from a disappointing start to the season, down the bottom without a win. The tricky conditions made it difficult for both teams, the Lions had more scoring shots but failed to convert as they trailed by 8 points at quarter time. Narre couldn’t shake Pakenham as both teams fought it out during the second term, just when you thought Narre could kick away, Pakenham got one back to keep the scoreboard close. At halftime only 2 goals separated both teams, it was the closest Pakenham had been against a top five side all season. Narre have appeared vulnerable at home this season, which is strange, as Kalora Park was their fortress during their reign. The third quarter saw Trent Papworth and Trent Cody drift forward and hit the scoreboard for the home side but it was Pakenham’s efforts in front of goal that hurt the visitors. The Lions inability to convert really hurt, 1 goal from 8 scoring shots wasn’t good enough when their opposition kicked 6.1 at the other end and jumped to an insurmountable lead of 36 points with a quarter to go. Nathan Allen played one of his better matches before the black and white, while evergreen Andrew Hunter was a formidable figure in defence for the Magpies. Narre kicked into another gear as Pakenham started to fade in the last quarter, another 6 goals to 1 quarter ensured Narre recorded their first win at home by 67 points. Papworth and Cody kicking three each and Jake Barclay was considered the best from the visitors.
CRANBOURNE 13.14.92 DEF BEACONSFIELD 6.8.44 A swirling breeze met both teams and Beaconsfield won the toss to use the aid of a four to five goal wins to their full advantage. Young Beaconsfield player Riley Verbi was enjoying his first game in the seniors bobbing up twice to convert and give Beacy an early 2 goal lead. Shaun Marusic found space to kick Cranbourne’s first as both teams exchanged goals to finish the quarter, Zak Roscoe’s first late in the quarter reduced the margin to only 9 points. It’s always hard to get a proper read of the contest until both teams have used the wind to their advantage. Cranbourne had control of the game in the second but couldn’t score before back-to-back goals had the reigning premiers wrestling their lead to their advantage. Lachie Modica got one against the run of play to bring the margin back to within one point before Cranbourne big man Troy Tharle took a nice mark and goaled to give his side a 10 point lead at the half. The breeze continued half time and Beacy where looking to capitalise on their opportunity. Troy Aust was making himself an option forwarded taking a great contested mark and kicking a long goal to reduce the margin to under a goal. Beaconsfield regained the momentum but were unable to turn that into scoreboard pressure. Two contervisal goal line decision went against the visitors. Roscoe’s second and Khaled Kanadjaki’s beautiful goal on the run where daggers into Beaconsfield’s heart. Cranbourne got the run on the last quarter booting six of the last seven goals. Beaconsfield couldn’t hold the flurry from Cranbourne, with Cranbourne running out victors by 48 points.
DOVETON 8.8.56 LOST TO BERWICK 15.15.105 The top of the table clash was a tight contest early on as both teams tried to feel each other out. Doveton tried to physically impose themselves on the contest but it was Berwick who handled the conditions the better. Berwick’s inaccurate kicking early kept the game close with both sides only separated by 6 points early in the second quarter. Berwick’s Ash Smith launched a huge 70m bomb to give the momentum to the visitors. Berwick’s defence was getting on top restricting Doveton’s forwards and often repelling and setting up the play on the rebound. Berwick led by 13 points at halftime with young Doveton forward Clayton McCartney kicking two first half goals. Berwick continued where they left off early in the second half setting up their win early in the third quarter. Brody Connelly was devastating up forward, the former VFL listed player was showing his wears up forward and helped Berwick to a seven to two goal third quarter and a 43 point lead with a quarter to go. The last quarter was a lot more even but the damage was already done. Connelly finishing the day with 6 goals, in an emphatic performance with the premiership favourites winning by 49 points to remain undefeated after 7 rounds.

DOVETON V TOORADIN-DALMORE Last Time – Round 13 Doveton 17.11.113 def Tooradin 5.8.38 Time and time again Doveton have the expectation they are a genuine contender but they continue to fall short. After being cruelled by injury during last season’s elimination final, the introduction of Aaron Davey as coach and the recruitment of gun forward Taylor Joyce many considered the Doves as a heavyweight contender. The Doves are 4-2 to start the season which isn’t bad at all but their two loses have come at the hands of last year’s grand finalists. It’s hard to gauge if they have improved from last year. Doveton take on another team who look destined for big things on paper but are yet to deliver this season, Tooradin. It’s a bit hard to assess exactly where the Seagulls are this season. They rolled out boom recruit Sentanta O’Hailpin last week who combined with Nathan Page to boot 21 goals between them against Hampton Park. It will be interesting to see if Sentanta plays this week against an opposition defence where he won’t get it all his own way. Both teams have a lot to play for considering we aren’t even at the halfway point of the season. Doveton will want to win to keep them on pace with the top 3, while Tooradin will be looking to build some momentum into their season and keep a glimmer of finals hope alive. If Tooradin bring their best and produce it consistently over the four quarters then they are in this up to their ears but we haven’t seen the Gulls produce this against quality opposition. Doveton have shown over the past few seasons they are capable of beating teams below them on the ladder quite comprehensively and at home that shouldn’t change although Tooradin did look more potent with O’Hailpin and Page up forward. Doveton by 26 points.
BERWICK V OFFICER Last Time – Round 17 Berwick 19.15.129 def Officer 3.11.29 Berwick return home and welcome Officer who have grown under the tutelage of Doug Koop. Usually you would say Berwick will easily pick up the four points but you can guarantee Officer will be up for the fight. How long can Officer remain in the contest will be the question? So far The Kangaroos have pushed Narre Warren and Cranbourne but they are yet to claim a big scalp. Berwick have been coasting through while maintaining an unbeaten start to the season. The Wickers are an impressive unit who are one of the best teams to watch, they make it look easy at times. Berwick will out work most teams and then run them into the ground with their unrelenting attack on the football. Officer can be their own worst enemy at times letting themselves down at crucial times during the match. The Kangaroos have a strong work ethic especially their midfield brigade who work off dominant big man Dylan Chapman. Chapman has matured into one of the most imposing big men, his tapwork is second to none and provides first use of the footy to their fleet footed brigade. Officer’s defence appears to match-up well against Berwick’s forwards, but it doesn’t take much for one of their stars to step up when it counts. The Wickers have an even spread of goal kickers Brody Connelly leads his team with 14 goals, but they have six players averaging a goal or more a match. With so many avenues to goals they can be hard to keep down for the entire 120 minutes. You can expect Officer to be competitive throughout but Berwick will have a touch of class when it counts. Berwick by 37 points.
CRANBOURNE V NARRE WARREN Last Time – Round 17 Narre Warren 7.15.57 lost to Cranbourne 10.9.69 The two old foes meet again, when you look at the fixture at the start of the season you pencil this game in as a must watch. The physical contests of the past, the game goes to new levels when
each other meet. Both sides have been working themselves into the season and their best football is yet to come. Cranbourne have brought a new edge to their game rather than being reliant on a few, the Eagles are playing a great brand of team oriented football, which relies on the process then their star players. This style sees Cranbourne using plenty of rotations in the middle and on the outside. The Eagles are well known for their crash and bash competitive style but now approach the game with some flair and class. Narre Warren’s inconsistent start to the season sees the Magpies finally return to the top 3 on the ladder where they belong. There is no doubt that Narre will have themselves ready to fire for this contest to prove they’re still full of venom. The game will be won in the midfield, tough nuts Dylan Quirk will meet Max Gearon, Trent Cody and Matt Fletcher are similarly skilled with a touch of class then you have experienced campaigners like Michael Collins and Ryan Davey. Which team can control possession will establish a game style best suited to their team’s needs. Cranbourne’s back six appear to match up well against Narre’s attacking arsenal. Brandon Osborne has grown into one of the league’s best defenders and will be given the task of nullifying Nick Scanlon. The Eagles are blessed with a great mix of players who can play tall or small and read the play to get back and support in numbers. Cranbourne have welcomed back Marc Holt, who compliments players like Zac Roscoe and Troy Tharle. Cranbourne appear to be too versatile for Narre who appear to be just below the top two in the competition. This will be a fight to the end but Cranbourne have shown they live for the big moments and thrive in these situations. Cranbourne by 27 points.
PAKENHAM V HAMPTON PARK Last time – Round 13 Hampton Park 8.10.58 lost to Pakenham 21.13.138 The bottom of the table clash offers both teams their first opportunity to secure their first four points for the season. Pakenham have shown some improvement of late hitting the scoreboard more often even winning their own share of quarters. The Lions lapses during games provide their opposition an opportunity to score quickly. That shouldn’t be the case this week at home against Hampton Park. The young Redbacks have been on the receiving end of some hidings but they have managed to hit the scoreboard during the match. If Pakenham don’t tread carefully they could be in for a shock as Hampton Park have developing core and could put it together for four quarters with less pressure around the footy. Pakenham have a group of talented big bodies who will be relied upon to get their first win of the season. Both sides have some good users of the footy and it could come down to which team uses it best for the full four quarters. The youthful exuberance of Hampton Park should rise for the occasion as for many of them won’t get a better chance to taste victory for the first time as senior players. Pakenham are never an easy task at home they play the wide spaces of Toomuc Reserve so well. The Lions have a staunch defence which will be used to blanket the Redbacks forwards but also the defenders will use their pace to run off their opponents and set up the home sides foray forwards. Pakenham by 13 points

Last weekend saw us host Berwick which was highlighted as match of the round! We came away with a win, a loss and a draw for the day. The 19s hosted Berwick in a battle for 4th spot and really embraced the challenge putting together their best game for the season to come away with a 2 goal victory. The boys hung on gamely against the breeze in the last quarter and really earned the victory. Jake Nicholson & josh Bradley dominated the middle to share best afield honours. The ressies played last year’s grand finalist and wasted the strong breeze in the first quarter, but battled hard for the rest of the day to end with a draw. Tristan Warkuss and Cam Bowman continued their great form and a great team effort kept us in the game all day.
far too good for us. Let’s push forward and refocus for our clash this weekend again Tooradin at home. The club would like to thank our wonderful footballers, netballers, committee members and supporters who volunteered their time over the weekend across the canteen, BBQ tent, running water, court supervisor and scoring. It is great to see so many people helping out and is truly appreciated. Good luck to all sides this week up again Tooradin at home. Go Doves!
The seniors got off to a promising start keeping Berwick goal-less in the first half. From there we dropped off and allowed them to edge their way back into the game by 3 quarter time. The last quarter saw some promising glimpses of play but Berwick were just

Congratulations boy’s on a good day at the office on Saturday against Hampton Park. Senior’s and Reserve’s had real good win’s to both. Great to see Nathan Page back and to kick 9 was outstanding. Was great to have Setanta out there as well, kicked a lazy 12. Hope to get him down for more game’s in the near future. Under 19s are still working hard. Good to see the coach’s working so hard with these boys to get them at a competitive level that they need to be. The second half of the year will be great for the lad’s and we wish them well. Our girl’s are still smashing it well done, keep going girl’s great job. The junior’s are tracking just fine as well. GOOD JOB. Don’t forget this Saturday night we have Bogan Bingo at the BALLA BALLA hall in Cranbourne. All player’s are expected to go, so please get behind the committee and turn up. Looking forward to Doveton this week at Dove’s home ground. Alway’s a great contest and with us getting some more player’s back hope to take it right up to them. We are raffling of a trailer with a ride on mower, a smoke oven and some other prizes, the ticket’s are only $10 each so please get yourself some. If you see David Cooke around just ask him for a ticket and other committee members. Good luck to all on the weekend. Regards Greg Kelly. “GO GULLS”

We ventured to Doveton last week in a top of the table clash. With 1 v 2 it was expected to be a high quality game. In windy conditions both teams controlled the back half and used their run to go forward. Only a few goals separated the teams come half time. After the break Berwick played their best quarter of football for the year and kicked 7 goals into the wind thus blowing the game wide open. We ended up with a comfortable win and remain at the top of the table.
the last score of the day and a draw was the result. First time I have seen Jesus influence a game....Bart?
The reserves, after trailing all day, managed to hit the front with only minutes to spare. Unfortunately a 50mtr penalty gave Doveton an opportunity to get the ball deep inside their forward line and they scrambled a point. It was
It is also our all important sponsors day so make sure we all get around them during and after the game.
The thirds, whilst playing well in patches went down to Doveton by 2 goals. This week will see us host Officer at Edwin Flack. An important day with plenty on. The under 17s are coming up for the day where they will be addressed by our Senior Coach Stew. A great opportunity to understand the junior - senior transition process.

Welcome to all supporters and sponsors to our Round 8 clash with Berwick at Edwin Flack Reserve. We look forward to a good round of football and a strong showing from our boys in all three grades against quality opposition. Coming off the Round 7 bye the boys will be refreshed and eager to get back on the paddock. Our Round 6 games against Cranbourne at home didn’t quite go to plan, losing all three grades. The Under 19’s and the Reserves were well beaten and know that they have a lot of work to do yet before we’ll be a threat to the top sides. This year’s improvement in the Seniors continued with a strong showing against Cranbourne, and although we went down by four goals, it was an exciting game to watch. This week’s game against Berwick will be another test of how far we’ve come this year and we look forward to another exciting contest.
The 2017 Reverse Draw will be held on Saturday 19 August (our second round bye). Put the date in your diary as it’s a great day and an important fund raiser for the Club. Tickets are again $150 with activities planned from 2pm to 6pm and the first ticket drawn at 4pm. Players will have tickets for sale in the next few weeks or you can get them from Committee members.
Up Coming Milestone - Ben Tivendale will reach 300 club games in the next few weeks. Ben is playing a well as ever and will soon join Kable Dowsett, Rob Young and Mick Moylan in reaching this very significant milestone.

Round 7 Footy Review Narre had good wins against Pakenham in the Ones, Twos and Under 19 As. Our Under 19 B team faced a well-drilled Officer and couldn’t match their speed and skill across the ground. This Friday the U/19B’s face Beacy at Beacy, 7pm start so we are hoping the Narre people can get down there and provide strong support. This week we also celebrate the 100th senior game of our outstanding Club captain, Dylan Quirk. In his short career, Dylan is already a multiple Premiership player, interleague representative and a regular in the Team of the Year , with still hopefully much more success to come. All the best of luck to the “the Don.” Seniors – Narre scored a solid 11 goal win - but we didn’t have it all our own way. Pakky play a tough uncompromising brand of footy. Narre’s players’, to a man kept their heads over the footy and finished off the better, despite having access to only two rotations on the bench in our 12-goal last half. Nathan Allen, Trent Cody and Quirky were brilliant in the kamikaze traffic around the stoppages. Andrew Hunter was outstanding with many intercept marks and good decision making on the last line of defence; while Trent Papworth’s mobile ruck work was effective around the ground and he kicked three goals of his own, adding a dimension to our scoring potential in future rounds. Reserves - Although Pakenham undermanned they were physical, we were happy with the consistency across the team and we are finishing off games well. Special mentions to Daniel Jackson’s 7 goals , Nath Aliotta’s 5 first half goals & Sammy McLean playing another great game. Troy Mengler’s deft ruck work was also a feature of the win.
Under 19 A – 19A’s played Pakenham in windy conditions at Fox Rd on Saturday. In a scrappy game, our boys got off to a good start with the breeze to lead by 4 goals at qrt time. Pakenham had a good crack in the 2nd qrt and 3rd qrt but our boys we able to pull away and win by 69 points in the end. Great effort to keep Pakenham goalless in the second half and our last quarter was very pleasing. There were a couple goals each to Pottsy, “Tony” Bartuccio, Tommy Toner and Flanner’s, with Webby our best for the day. Under 19 B – Narre’s Under 19B were soundly outplayed by a slick and talented Officer side. As has become the hallmark of this young Narre playing group, the boys’ effort cannot be questioned but they struggled to hit targets and apply their skills in the windy conditions. Our best were Jason Luppino, Adam Machnikowski, Jamie Caruana, Marco D’addario and Barney Mauot-Agang. Supers Our Supers play at home this Sunday v De LA Salle with a 2.45pm start. It is 1st v 2nd so we are expecting a tough contest. We hope the experienced crew of Tangles, Tony, Justin & H can lead us to victory. Please come along and support them. Last week the Pakenham Football Club ventured to Narre Warren for our Round 7 clash. With the Senior team competitive against Berwick the week before, all eyes were on the team to see how they matched up against another Premiership contender. The first half was extremely promising as the young team matched it against a more experienced Narre. At the half time break, the Lions were only 12 points down. As they say the 3rd quarter is the Premiership Quarter and Narre kicked 7 goals 1 to Pakenham 1 goal 6. The game was won in this quarter and Pakenham were not able to make inroads in the last stanza to put any pressure on Narre and they ran away easy winners in the end.
For everyone attending, have a great night of dancing, cocktails and associating with your mates of the club. COMEDY NIGHT JUNE 17th, 8pm Start The Pakenham Football Club will be hosting a Comedy Night on June 17th, 2017 after our home game against Cranbourne from 8pm. Dave O’Neil and Lehmo will be in attendance along with former Hey Hey its Saturday Comedian, Brad Oakes. Tickets are $40 per head, which includes finger food and drinks at members bar prices. For tickets, contact Bevo on 0433813542 or email the club on pakenhamfc@bigpond.com
In the Reserves, they were completely outplayed by Narre and never challenged throughout the whole game. Narre were far too strong and clinical on their home patch. While in the Under 19s, Pakenham played the undefeated Narre Warren A team and were competitive. The margin of a 11 goal win, didnt show justice to the way the boys played out the game. There are promising signs from this young group who continue to improve each week. COCKTAIL NIGHT TONIGHT Don’t forget the Cocktail Night is being held tonight. All tickets have been pre-sold and the event starts from 7pm in the function room.

Last weekend we hosted Tooradin in rather chilly conditions as the afternoon progressed. The Reserves were first up and Tooradin got away to a strong first half to take a comfortable lead in at half time. To the boys credit they fought out the second half and were only outscored by 20 pts. As supporters you cannot question the boys desire. Better players on the day were: N Dawes, M Phouttanouvong, M McInroy-Howard, A Lawless, D Glazier & H Peach.
PRIZES FOR – 1st, 40th, 80th, 120th & 150th tickets drawn out total value 1000.00 200th ticket = 9,000 folding. 5 Tickets will be held for auction and called at the 100th, 120th, 140th, 160th & 180th point. Sponsors Thank you to all our sponsors.
The seniors were next up and after a pre-game talk from the 97 premiership team who were holding their 20 year reunion the boys took to the park. A couple of missed chances early in the game saw the opportunity to put Tooradin under some scoreboard pressure slip away. Tooradin’s bigger bodies around the ball and height dominance up forward saw them take control of the game. The boys never stopped trying throughout the game which is a credit to them. Injuries are starting to take a toll, on weekend we have lost both Vice Captains to long term injury and with Captain currently out we will be looking for new leader for coming weeks. It was great to see so many old faces from the 1997 & 1967 premiership teams at the ground for their 20 & 50 year reunion. We trust that you enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you around the club. Social Function Reminder the 10,000 Reverse Drawer is on Sunday the 18th June to be held in Clubrooms. Tickets on sale now so don’t miss out. It is always a great day. Beer, Wine, Soft Drink & Food. $150.00 per ticket admits 2.

CRANBOURNE 34 LOST TO BEACONSFIELD 42 Cranbourne started the game competitively and had a slight advantage (11-10) at the first break. Beaconsfield worked their way back into the match which saw a six goal swing in their favour and by the half where out to a 5 goal lead. With Jasmine Jones unavailable it was Rylee Nelson who controlled the midcourt for Beaconsfield. As we are coming accustomed too, Bianca Sanzaro was dynamite inside the circle for the visitors. Sanzaro’s dominance help Beacy break away during the third term outscoring Cranbourne 12 goals to six and provide the visitors some breathing space leading by 11 goals (35 to 24) at the last change. To Cranbourne’s credit they didn’t give up the fight in the tough conditions outscoring their fancied rivals and adding some respectability to the scoreboard going down eventually 34 to 42.
DOVETON 57 DEF BERWICK 51 Doveton came out all guns blazing and had Berwick on the back foot during the first quarter. Hayley Stewart was the catalyst, her extra efforts defending combined with her ability to find open space was a key contributor to her team’s success. Stewart flanked by gun goalers in Rahni Samason and Shae Gee where combining well close to goals to establish a 7 goal lead at quarter time. Playing Coach Liz Edwards was down in defence to limit the impact of Berwick’s own dynamic shooting duo in Amataga Itagia and Emily Wilson. Berwick fought back in the second term outworking Doveton to reduce the margin at the half to only four goals. The game saw a great battle between the goalers at each end with Samason (39) and Itagia (36) showing some real potential. The second half was a close contest with Berwick playing with more confidence but couldn’t outscore Doveton at home losing the half by two goals going down by only 6 goals.
HAMPTON PARK 14 LOST TO TOORADIN-DALMORE 52 Tooradin once again confirmed their premiership favouritism with a dominant display at Hampton Park. The Redbacks had no answer to the onslaught only mustering 3 goals in the first quarter while the visitors slotted home an impressive 14 goals. Tooradin’ defence was on top and well led by Ebony Dolan and Bec Kinna. Dolan and Kinna are quickly becoming a defensive force, the combination didn’t concede more than four goals in any of the quarters. Tooradin’s midcourt were also dominating restricting Hampton Park from getting into the contest. Shona Wells and Jess Maher had the ball on a string setting up most of the Seagulls ball movement with quick fluent passes with very little turnovers. Hampton Park will have to put it down to a disappointing day at the office and will need to rebound quickly so this loss doesn’t define their season. Tooradin claim another scalp in one of their best all round performances winning 38 goals.
NARRE WARREN 59 DEF PAKENHAM 30 Pakenham showed some grit and determination early in their contest at Kalora Park. The Lions battled hard to keep the margin close. Only one goal separated the teams (11-10) before Narre’s engine room started to take over. Narre quickly assumed control with Gabby Dwyer on fire around goals but had plenty of supply from the likes of Leigh Taylor and Bec Potalej. The reigning premiers quickly sped to the front outscoring the visitors 12 goals to five to lead 23 to 15 at the half. Narre came out after the break and went to work against Pakenham outscoring the bottom placed Lions 36 goals to 15 in the second half. Dwyer finished the game with 40 goals, many coming in the last quarter with Narre shooting 20 goals to six. Narre triumphant by 29 goals.

DOVETON (4TH 4-2) V TOORADIN-DALMORE (1ST 6-0) Tooradin A Grade has become the SEFNL’s biggest juggernaut with such a dominant start to the season. Not only are the Seagulls blowing teams off the court with their fantastic offence where they are averaging close to 53 goals a game, their defence is also a clear standout leading the competition with the least goals conceded with a miserly 29 goals per a match. The faultless start to the season makes you question where to now for Tooradin? Can this unbelievable run continue?? It sure can as they travel up the road to take on a brave netball side in Doveton. Doveton would be happy with their start to the season, currently sitting fourth but with a healthy win ratio of four wins and two loses. The Doves haven’t been as dominant against their opposition as the top 3 sides but they are prepared to do the hard yards and throw everything into getting the win. Rahni Samason has rubber stamped herself as a real force from within the shooting circle for Doveton but she might have her work cut-out for her against a staunch defence. Tooradin appear to be too strong and will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run against Doveton at AJ Robinson in what is shaping as the game of the round in A Grade this weekend. Tooradin to win by 15 goals
BERWICK (7TH 1-5) V ROC (6TH 2-4) Berwick are at home against a ROC side who has been a little disappointing of late losing their last three matches. ROC will be refreshed after the bye and will be looking to get their season back on track as quickly as possible, but Berwick at home won’t be an easy task. Berwick’s confidence is on the rise after securing their first four points of the season against Pakenham in Round Six and followed that up with a gallant performance against Doveton away last week. With that sort of form a win here for the Wickers wouldn’t surprise at all. A win here for ROC will keep them in the finals hunt, a loss here could see them drop to as low eighth on the ladder and two games out of the five. There is plenty riding on this game but going by recent weeks and scoring more than 50 goals in their past two matches, I’m leaning towards the Wickers at home to have the slight edge. Berwick to win by 6 goals.
CRANBOURNE (5TH 3-3) V NARRE WARREN (3RD 4-2) Cranbourne currently see themselves sitting a game clear in the top 5 but will be working as hard as ever to extend the gap further between them and sixth. Can they do that this week against last year’s premiers?? Only time will tell. It appears Narre Warren have really hit their straps in recent weeks they are one of three teams to be averaging more than 50 goals a match this season, while their defence is sitting a close third overall after a slightly disappointing start to the season. Narre are a classy out fit with seasoned stars ready to fire against Cranbourne with plenty of top end talent of their own. It should be a great contest between two sides headed towards finals but Narre Warren appear to just have the edge, in a must win game for the Magpies if they want to stay within reach of the top two teams on the ladder. Casey Fields can be a tricky venue to play depending on weather conditions, but it appears like it should be ok for netball on Saturday. You can expect Cranbourne to really push Narre Warren but it will be last year’s premiers to finish in front. Narre by 9 goals
PAKENHAM (9TH 0-6) V HAMPTON PARK (8TH 2-5) Hampton Park go into this contest after one of their worst loses in recent times after only scoring 14 goals going down by 38 goals to the ladder leaders. The score of 14 is the lowest recorded score this season but they were up against a team in sublime form. The loss makes it a run of three outs for the Redbacks who will be looking to return to the winners list this weekend against bottom placed Pakenham. Although often undermanned Pakenham continue to fight each and every week just falling short in a few key areas. Could this be the week that the Lions put it together for four quarters to secure their first win of the season? It’s hard to write Hampton Park off just yet, they have shown they can play some quality netball, it just appears as they will have their ups and downs as they transition into a new game style with so many new players coming into the club. Hampton Park to regain some confidence in the second half of the contest and win by 7 goals.

13 Red, Tough one for these little champs, we were flat, we were down and it showed throughout the game, few pockets of great play however Berwick were just too good for us and took out the win. Under 13 White- we started our game off strong we seemed to to want the win unfortunately things just didn’t go our way and Berwick got a strong lead over us. At this point we just dropped our heads and gave up we lost our fighting spark. Defence omg absolutely amazing to Nyrout first time in defence for a full game and played the best game I’ve seen her play. We need to come together as a team and keep our chins up this will keep our fighting spirit alive. U15 White: We had a slow start considering how pumped up we were at warm up. This slow start let Berwick build a lead we were just unable to catch up on. Some amazing passages of play and the fact that we didn’t drop our heads gave us hope that our first win isn’t far off! Special mention Hailie who played an outstanding game however best on this week TJ Sturdy who was a force to be reckoned with in defence! U15 Red: Hold your heads high girls. We win some and we lose some – that’s netball! We started off really well & strong against a very tall Berwick side, but soon dropped off. Moving onto this week we prepare for Tooradin!
game. Half time saw some changes which seemed to work wonders for us. In the second half we held Berwick to only 3 goals. Amazing win ladies! C Grade: Going into this match I could feel the energy levels were at a low. Heads were down and spirits down. Unfortunately, you let that get the better of you and our performance produced a loss. Back to the drawing board to eliminate all negativity in the team and to solidify a strong critical training sesh Thurs! B Grade: The combinations and positive vibe you girls are showing up with to play is such sensational. My heart would however like to continue with a steady beat, so no more ping pong matches please. Congratulations B grade ladies, such a well-deserved win. A Grade: Not the nicest match game won, not only did we allow Berwick back into each quarters, we also made it hard on ourselves. Let’s stick to the basics first to allow the greatness then to take over. Tough game vrs Tooradin and we cannot play like what we did this week. Let’s recap, fix and push harder for a better result. Well done to everyone involved and an awesome day of Netball all round.
U17’s White: Good Game today girl came away with a win. Many changes where mad and showed more versatility within our team. Best on court today goes to Harmony your arms go for miles and miles and miles. Well done girls. U17’s Red: Well Well Well Super game today girls,Work rate, enthusiasm, And good work. A win and some fun, is what it is all about..Super shooting from our super defender. Great game by all...J.B. out!!!! D Grade: Saw us get off to a nice lead early but by the 2nd quarter Berwick edged their way back into the

After a two week break what a day out we had at Hampton Park last weekend! There were many smiles from our junior girls. For the first time in I can’t remember how long we had all junior teams bring home a win!! Congratulations to all the players and coaches of our 13 Red, 15 Red, 17 White and 17 Red who have all been working so hard and improving every week. All your hard work paid off in this round and we look forward to you taking that winning experience through to the coming rounds. A huge thank you to Rachel Thomas who stepped in to umpire the 13’s at the last minute after a rostering mix up.
played well below their capabilities. Back to the drawing board at training this week and we can come out firing against Doveton. Thankfully A and B grade picked up the pace and bought home two wins. B grade in a nail biter by one goal and A grade coming out convincing winners despite missing Emma from the line up. This week sees us take on Doveton at Doveton in what will again be a tough round of matches. We look forward to celebrating some wins at our bogan bingo function tonight. Can’t wait to see you all there!
Unfortunately the seniors were unable to continue the winning streak with D and C grade going down in games

berwick For our Round 7 matches, our Wicker Chicks made their way to the home of the Doves, for what was promising to be a great day of netball. it turned out to be a mixed bag of results across the day for our teams, but we all came away with many positives to carry on into this week. With our opposition only having one court at their home ground, it proved a very early start for our U13’s, a late start for A grade, and a change of venue for two of our junior teams. A big thank you goes to every volunteer, spectator and supporter that stuck around through out the day and across the two different locations. Our girls cannot get out on court and play the game we all love without the support you give, both at home and away games, and your contribution, big or small, does not go unnoticed. The results from last round were as follows; 13 Red def Doveton 40-10 13 White def Doveton 23-4 15 Red def Doveton 33-21
within the Berwick Netball Club, players and coaches especially. We love the pride you show in wearing the Wicker dress, and the determination to be the best you can be out on the court with every round of netball you play. As we come into Round 8 for our next home game, a few parting words for all players from our Head Coach, Janine Kilmartin. “ As we look to ROC - we believe in ourselves, we stay with composure, we deliver with confidence and together we complete” This week we mark a special celebration for one of our own... A Grade’s, Sarah Nash will be celebrating the milestone of 100 games this week. We hope to see all get behind this awesome achievement and stand beside Nashie on her milestone as a #wickerchick. Not only as a player, but as a coach and a member of the Wickers, we CONGRATULATE you on this. Well done Nash for all you do for our wonderful club on and off the court. #wickersweareone #wickerlove #

Last week we hosted Beaconsfield. As usual Casey Fields was very windy making it tough for all our netballers. Our very young 13 White side had a tough match against very strong opposition. Great to see them never give up and push all the way to the end. An exciting last quarter for the 13 Red team, starting the 4th 4 goals down. With determination and focus the girls won the quarter 8-4 making the final score an 18-18 draw. Smiles all round from the coaches, players & parents. An awesome game from the 15 White team. Coming up against the top side, the girls were switched on right from the start and never lost the lead. Great teamwork shown throughout the game resulting in a 11 goal win. Some amazing netball played by the 15 Reds. When they are on, they are definitely on. The defensive pressure from Beacy proved to be too great and they took the win. The 17 White team played good competitive netball. They felt the pressure from some strong opposition forcing the play, rushing and making mistakes we wouldn’t ordinarily make. Great effort all round by the team with a never give up attitude. 17 Red. Great improvement of skills this week showing the level of netball the girls can play. Starting out a bit slow left them playing catch up and they fell short of getting a win. D Grade played 4 solid quarters against another tough Beacy side. Great attacking, defending and moving of the ball showing what this team is capable of. C Grade. Awesome start and awesome end to the game. A little loss of focus in the 3rd bringing us undone. Two equally matched teams playing quality netball. Looking forward to the next time we match up with Beacy. B Grade. The momentum built all game resulting in an amazing last quarter by the team, they fought til the end only going down by a few goals. A Grade. Always quality netball being played in A grade and this match didn’t disappoint. With one team getting ahead then the other catching up, you can never anticipate the outcome until the final whistle. One of those days for us where every tip and deflection we earnt would fall into Beacys hands. We fought hard all game but didn’t bring home the 4 points. We are looking forward to hosting Narre this week. GO EAGLES!

We welcomed Pakenham to Kalora Park for round seven and came away with nine wins and a draw. The 13 White match was the ‘Match of the Day’, with both sides going goal for goal for the four quarters. At half time, scores were locked at 8 – 8 and come the final whistle nothing could separate the two young sides with the scoreboard standing at 24 apiece.
keep things simple and work together. A Grade built their lead each quarter. Led by captain Leigh and defender Tracey, the A grade side limited Pakenham’s scoring opportunities. Goalers, Chloe and Gabby worked hard for four quarters in windy conditions while the mid court rotated fresh legs to provide spark in the second half and ran out winners 59 -30.
Our 13 Red side played their best game for the season so far, adjusting to the breezy conditions and converting their turnovers into goals. The girls finished up with a 32 – 15 win over Pakenham. The 15 White girls shook off a persistent Pakenham to win 25 – 13. Well done to Jessie, Ella and Alicia who were the award winners. The 15 Red continued their winning form but had to dig deep in the second half to pull away from Pakenham. Their form improved in the second half to run out winners 31 – 15. Both of the 17 & Under games were good tussles. The 17 White match was a close contest with our girls hanging on for a six goal victory. The 17 Red match was a skilful game with Pakenham, challenging our undefeated 17 Red side. Caity Egan was a stand out in defence, while Kacey controlled the midcourt.
Congratulations to Jayde Stow and Jemma Osborne, who celebrated their 100 game milestones. Both girls are talented players on the court with premierships to their names, but are also very generous with their time and knowledge, coaching junior sides. Jayde is also an umpire, making her Saturday a very busy day! Well done girls, good luck for the next 100!
The senior matches produced four big wins for Narre Warren, however the score lines didn’t reflect Pakenham’s effort and pressure. D Grade recorded another big score shooting 64 goals while restricting Pakenham to 14. C Grade continue to go from strength to strength, notching up 68 goals and keeping their opponents to 14. Their goal ring looks settled, strong and dynamic with three new faces this year. B Grade produced their best game for the year with a whole team performance. A steady eight goal lead at half time turned into a 30 goal victory as the team built with each quarter. The attacking end showed how effective they can be when they
Thank you to Steve Woolfe for organising a barbecue tent for our netballing chefs. The effort the players are putting in at each home game doesn’t go unnoticed – your support and skills are very much appreciated! We are extremely proud of the amazing people that make up our club, from our coaching staff, our players, our officials, our supporters and sponsors, and the volunteers who go above and beyond what is expected of them who put in more hours behind the scenes than others would ever truly comprehend. Last Thursday night was a perfect example of the incredible can do people we have, when arriving at the kitchen it was full of people some who were not even rostered on preparing the food for our meals! That speaks volumes of the amazing people who we have in this club who appreciate that by getting behind the club in a positive way and giving back by helping in any small way they can, creates that sense of community that is so important. We are confident our coaches will continue to show their commitment to our players in providing the training and coaching required for our long term success, our players will continue to show their commitment by wearing their uniform with pride, and being a team player who contributes 100% effort at training, game day and to their team’s overall success. The committee will continue to show their commitment to the overall running of the club by showing leadership to move the club forward, our sponsors show their commitment by providing their financial support and our supporters
show their commitment by each week cheering loud and proud no matter what the score line says from the sidelines and supporting our players who are giving it their best.
