Bump Into Ms. Barnard
mong the many new faces to be wandering the Regina halls this year is Ms. Barnard. You may recognize her as an A lunch moderator or as your 8th grade science teacher, or even as your Physics moderator; but above all Ms. Barnard is just a fun person.
Barnard was previously a girl’s golf and basketball coach at Loras College before deciding to apply for a teaching position here at Regina. “I’m looking forward to getting more involved with Regina. The academics are great and so are the athletics so it is nice to be at a school that is good at everything. It will be fun to watch students get good grades while also participating in state
championships.” said Barnard when asked what she is looking forward to most at Regina.
Some things that Barnard believes you should know about her are that she is great at jigsaw puzzles, she hates swimming in any body of water due to the fact that there might be sharks, if she could eat grilled cheese every day for the rest of her life she would, and lastly she was voted biggest class clown in her high school. If you happen to see Ms. Barnard in the halls one of these days you should most definitely stop to say hello and ask her about the interesting story that led to her finding her way to Regina.
Welcome Mrs. Martin M
s. Martin is the new learning center/ resource teacher. She previously worked as a corrections officer for 10 years before going back to school to receive her masters in Special Education. “My job decided to go to 10 hour shifts so I got a job as a teacher’s associate and fell in love with teaching.” said Martin. Having no previous ties to Regina, Martin ended up at Regina by chance. “I knew it [Regina] was a private school, but that’s all I knew about it before I began to work here. Now that I’m here there’s a lot that I like about it; the students and faculty
M
are wonderful and it’s a great place to work.” Although she helps with all classes in the resource room, Ms. Martin says that her favorite classes to teach are history or social studies. “I love the TV show Outlander because I’m really into medieval European History, I just think it’s fascinating.” When asked what one thing she wanted Regina students to know about her, Martin had this to say: “Don’t be afraid to come into the resource room, it’s a quiet and safe environment and I’m an open book with my kids so I think I’m pretty approachable.”
Meet Ms. Mehegan
s. Mehegan currently teaches World Geography, Government, and AP US History. She previously worked as a substitute teacher at City High, and at the hospital dealing with medical records. She also teaches Jazzercise on week nights and occasionally on the weekends. She is a graduate of The University of Miami in Ohio but grew up in Iowa City. Before coming to Regina Mehegan had heard several things about
Regina, “I knew it was a strong community and very faith based. I also heard about the great students here.” said Mehegan. Her sources proved to be correct, when asked what her favorite thing about Regina was Mehegan laughed and replied “my morning 7th graders.” One thing Ms. Mehegan wants the Regina students to know is that “I’m always free when you need help, email me or come in with questions and I’ll be happy to help you.”
