A truly special venue MAKE MEMORIES THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME AT DUNSTON HALL AND GARDENS. hen David and Lynsey Harrison took ownership of Dunston Hall and the estates they had the distinct aim of returning the Grade IIlisted house to its former glory - and creating the most magical wedding and events venue. To say they have succeeded is an understatement to say the least. During the six-month renovation of the 16th century hall, the couple left no stone unturned, getting expert advice on every aspect, from choosing the right coving to fit in with the age of the building to sourcing antique furniture sympathetic to its history. They even sought counsel on choosing the right colour scheme. This attention to detail is evident throughout the building, which is situated on the edge of the Peak District between Chesterfield and Sheffield. It makes for the most stunning of venues for your celebration. This is far from a dated property though – with wifi throughout, smart TVs and state-of-theart kitchens and bathrooms, this is definitely a house for the 21st century. But Dunston Hall is as much about how it feels as well as how it looks. The hall has started to welcome its first guests who have been amazed, not just by the quality of the finishing, but by the freedom they are given when it comes to creating a truly bespoke and unique celebration. “This is your house,” said Beverley Paterson, who runs the hall with her husband Ian. “It's the first thing we say to guests when they arrive. We turn the hall over to the guests for the duration of their stay and we can be involved as much or as little as they like us to be.” It makes for a totally different experience for your celebration. Every little detail can be chosen by you. Food, drink, entertainment… you name it, Dunston Hall can accommodate it and then will leave you to enjoy it with the minimum of fuss. So whether you would like to imagine yourself as the Lord or Lady of the Manor, Prince, Princess or just have the most enjoyable and magical wedding of your dreams, Dunston Hall and Gardens

provides an ideal setting for a memorable occasion. If you wish to hold your wedding within the hall's grand dining room, which will seat up to 40 people comfortably, or its stunning garden room which seats 65, or have a marquee on the lawn for 100/200 guests, they offer a comprehensive and individually designed service. There is a ceremony room fully licenced, and ten luxury bedrooms available for your party, which can sleep 23 people. And plans are already in place to add holiday lets and shepherds huts as well as a beautiful large barn conversion which will hold up to 100 people from April next year (all subject to planning permission approval). Most weddings take place over two to three days where your family can really relax and enjoy this unique hall before

your guests arrive for a truly memorable experience. The Hall’s five acres of gardens are the perfect place for your family and friends to relax before or after your celebration; whether you choose to play croquet on the perfectly manicured lawns or take a dip in one of the hot tubs, there's something for your whole party to enjoy. You're free to roam at your leisure. The Dunston Hall experience begins as soon as you turn off the B6050 onto the gravel driveway, which leads you up

to the stone dwelling. Step through the imposing front door and you'll find a grand staircase separating a dining room to the left and reception room and library to the right. At the back of the hall on the ground floor is a large kitchen as well as the entrance to a cellar bar, complete with video games and a karaoke machine. Upstairs you'll find the ten luxury ensuite bedrooms, which have all been individually designed, including a stunning honeymoon suite with fourposter bed, dressing room, huge bathroom and amazing views over the grounds of the hall. “We set out to restore a period property to its former glory but also give Dunston Hall a new lease of life… ensuring the future of the hall and enabling people the opportunity to experience something truly special where memories will be made and kept forever,” said David. Dunston Hall has worked with many local suppliers throughout the refurbishment process and continue to work with them now, most notably on the catering side. These include Bakewell Bakery, Highfield Farm, Winster Foods, The Gentleman Fishmonger, John Hattersley Wines, and Franklin & Sons.

Head chef Lindsey Divens, who oversees Dunston Hall functions as well as the bistro within the Garden Centre next door (also owned by David and Lynsey), can create bespoke menus just for you, from bacon sandwiches in the morning, to formal sit down dinners in the evening and even outdoor hog roasts. “Her reputation for food is awardwinning and we are proud to have her on our team,” added David.

“Here at Dunston Hall we like to make the experience about you," added Beverley. "From weddings to bespoke events such as birthdays, blessings, anniversaries and family get-togethers, we can design and offer you a truly unforgettable experience that will hold precious memories.” Dunston Hall truly offers something different, putting you and your party at the heart of your celebration in a venue where you can really relax and enjoy the experience. Why not contact one of their team who will be happy to discuss the various options on offer. Putting things in place for a successful future THERE’S A NEW CHAIRMAN AND A NEW ERA OF EXPANSION FOR CITY HOMELESSNESS CHARITY EMMAUS SHEFFIELD. mmaus Sheffield, based in Cadman Street, close to Sheffield’s Victoria Quays, is the drug and alcohol free project that provides a home, support and work for formerly homeless people in the city. Through its social enterprise programme it aims to provide meaningful work and enable the people it supports – known as companions – to eventually become self-supporting once more. Bill Thomas, the charity’s new chairman of trustees, takes over from Martin Davies, who is retiring after 24 years as chairman of the Sheffield charity. “I am very honoured to be following Martin, said Sheffield-based Bill, who spent many years as a divisional managing director for estate agency Connells. “As we hopefully begin to emerge from the pandemic, this is an interesting time for Emmaus. The past 18 months have been a difficult time for all charities but Emmaus Sheffield has survived and continues to provide an excellent level of support for our companions. “That remains, as always, our absolute priority and we have to ensure that we have all the things in place to us into a successful future.” Many people know Emmaus Sheffield best for its extremely popular secondhand store at the organisation’s headquarters in the historic Sipelia Works, close to the city’s Canal Basin. And now the Emmaus companions have launched their own hand crafted furniture range to boost sales as the charity emerges from lockdown. “It became clear that we would have to adapt further to survive,” said the charity’s retail manager Kate Morgan. “We undertook a review of the social enterprise, to look at where we could change or improve the offering to the public and with the assistance of a grant

New chairman Bill Thomas

from Emmaus UK, we decided to employ a skilled workshop supervisor, and with his support, the companions not only continued to work on furniture restoration projects but also started to transform recycled wood and other items to create entirely new pieces. “As with everything we do at Emmaus, training forms a large part of the workshop supervisor role, providing our companions with an opportunity to gain real world skills and a huge sense of pride, seeing work they have done being sold in the shop.” The charity is currently creating new expanded workshop space that will allow training to develop even further. David Newton

And one of the companions who has most recently benefitted from the charity’s training programme is David Newton, who has now passed his driving test. “Passing my driving test opens doors to employment and it also means I can gain experience driving vehicles for Emmaus,” said David. “It is a big stepping stone, giving me more options for my future and is something I couldn’t have done without the support of Emmaus Sheffield.” Emmaus deputy manager Charley Fedorenko commented: “We are delighted that David has reached this very important personal milestone. “His success reinforces what we do, offering skills and training to help people build their confidence and open doors to employment. It is fantastic to see David’s efforts and hard work being rewarded and it’s a massive help too because we always need companions who can drive so we can keep offering our delivery and collection service for our shop.” To find out more about Emmaus Sheffield visit www.emmaus-sheffield.org.uk

We are delighted that this year’s event will take place at Sheffield’s newest dining and events venue on the evening of Monday 8 November. The OEC – Owlerton Events & Conferencing to give its full title – nestles snugly between Napoleons Casino and Owlerton Stadium on Penistone Road. It’s a new, ultra-modern and exciting venue with a 500-seater capacity, making it the perfect spot for large-scale parties, weddings and celebrations of all kinds. So, of course, it’s ideal for the local restaurant world’s biggest and glitziest celebration night! Now we’ve found the perfect venue, the search is really hotting up for the finest dining and drinking establishments across Sheffield and North Derbyshire, as we look forward to the 2021 Westside Restaurant and Bar Awards. EATING OUT

Peak of perfection IT’S ALL CHANGE AT THE GEORGE, WRITES RICHARD ABBEY. s far as transformations go, the changes at the recently reopened George in Hathersage are pretty spectacular. The memory of its previous incarnation, The George Hotel, has been completely wiped and what stands there in its place is a modern, welcoming dining pub that retains its hotel bedrooms too. The aged stone building occupies a prime position on the main road through Hathersage and is a perfect spot to visit whether you’re looking for a post-walk pick-me-up after a day in the Peak District or entertaining friends over dinner and drinks. The George is now operated by Longbow Bars & Restaurants and comes under the same umbrella as The Maynard in Grindleford. Rob Hattersley did a sterling job of transforming the latter last year and has worked his magic with his latest venue. A five-week transformation has completely transformed the venue. Enter through the front door and you’ll find a bar to the left and casual drinking/dining area to the right. Carry straight on, under the stone arch, and you arrive in a light, bright dining room with views out on the courtyard. The décor is country contemporary and in-keeping with the building. It’s

A

warm, welcoming and had a real buzzing atmosphere on the evening of our visit. The menu delivers good, gastropub grub as well as woodfired pizzas, burgers and steaks. Chef David Palfri sources supplies locally where possible; this provenance is detailed on the menus and includes meat from New Close Farm in Over Haddon and Owen Taylor in Alfreton, fish from RG Morris & Son in Buxton, and fruit and veg from Winster Foods in Chesterfield. In addition, wine is supplied by Rob’s father John of Hattersley Wines in Bakewell and coffee comes from Roastology in Sheffield. Although there were plenty of tempting starters on offer, we decided to begin our evening by sharing one their sourdough pizzas, cooked fresh in minutes in a newly-installed oven just around the corner from where we were sitting. The ‘Classic Italian’ (£9.95) was made with homemade tomato sauce, grated mozzarella, heritage cherry tomatoes, rocket salad and parmesan shavings, peppadew peppers and prosciutto – a well-known marriage of flavours but the real star was the base, which was deliciously thin and crispy as it should be. We complemented our starter with a well chosen bottle of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Ancora (£price). We followed this with a classic pub dish – homemade pie of the week

(£15.50) – which on this occasion was chicken and mushroom and served with minted mushy peas, kale, proper gravy and mash. Fully enclosed in pastry it was what I like to call a ‘proper pie’ and very good too with flavoursome filling and really good mash. The gravy was top notch as well. My wife opted for a not-so-classic pub dish in the form of a North African Tagine (£17.95) which came with a marinated lamb leg steak and a side of rocket, quinoa and pomegranate salad. The lamb was especially tender whilst the tagine had a real kick of spice. Sticky toffee pudding (£6.95) was perhaps an obvious choice for dessert but a good one whilst I opted for The George Gourmand - a selection of miniature desserts served with espresso (£9.50), a delightful way to finish any meal. Greeted by warm and welcoming staff, we began our evening on the second floor of the former banking building, (hence the name), with a table for two overlooking the stunning countryside. With the sun slowly setting behind us, casting the most beautiful shadows on the gentle peaks of the hills, I knew we were going to have a perfect night. After we had perused the extensive wine, beer and cocktail list, my husband and I eventually settled on wine and both opted for a rich red; mine a large Primitivo Maestro Puglia and my husband’s a Faustino Rivero Crianza Rioja (£8.50 each for 250ml). We were then presented with our starters from the Specials A La Carte menu, and I was, quite frankly, blown away. The presentation of each starter was just stunning, but the best was yet to come; their incredible tastes and textures. I enjoyed the Braised Beef Cheek (£8) which was cooked so beautifully it instantly melted in the mouth. With a nod to the Mediterranean, the beef sat on

S

a bed of a creamy smoked herb polenta, pickled shallots and bone marrow, giving it just that extra spark of magic. The Cured Sea Trout (£8.50) of my husband’s married perfectly with the Shivering Mountain Gin it was cured in and the radish and fennel espuma was something else; soft and smooth, contrasting perfectly with crunch of the crispy shallots. Attention to detail is something The Bank House clearly takes pride in, and my main of Gressingham Duck Breast (£26) proved exactly this. Cooked exactly how I like it with thick, crispy skin and pink inside, it was bursting with flavour. It was also served with the classic French dish, Pomme Anna, consisting of sliced, layered and creamy potatoes as well as a delicious, and really quite charming, foie gras lollipop. The rich carrot and blood orange jus linked all of these elements together just beautifully. My husband enjoyed the Lamb Cannon (£24), which once again showed the exceptional skills of the chef, with the meat cooked exquisitely; succulent, tender and pink. The lamb was coated in a pistachio, raspberry and sesame crumb, adding an extra texture to our tastebuds, and the red wine jus complemented the honey glazed potatoes, al dente Romanesco broccoli

and smooth pea puree perfectly. In addition to our mains, we were served a side of steamed vegetables, dressed in olive oil and chives. Finally, as our evening drew to a close, we moved onto our desserts. My husband’s Hazelnut Tart (£7.50) was sweet and sticky with the crunchy toffee shards standing prominent in the middle creating an immediate allure. My MilleFeuille (£7.50) demonstrated an elegance with its beautifully sweet pastry, strawberry compôte and, my personal favourite, sprinkles of white chocolate soil. If you’re looking for a restaurant situated amongst striking scenery, serves excellent food and provides the right atmosphere to make your night special, The Bank House ticks every box. Pop Inn, anytime SAM PEGG ENJOYS A WHOLESOME AND MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AT THE PEACOCK. ocated in the middle of the countryside in Cutthorpe, with views that look over miles of scenery, sits The Peacock Inn, proud winners of Westside and Southside’s 2018 best dining pub and 2019 best family friendly pub. It offers a cosy environment and flavoursome food with an open fire during the winter months, a comfortable interior space, an impressive beer garden and a play area for the kids. There is an extensive food and drinks menu with a wide variety of dishes to choose from and a range of prices. From a fresh fillet of salmon to a 7oz 28-day aged fillet steak, there’s a meal to provide a high level of excitement for everybody. The Peacock offers a vast selection of draught beer, wine, gin, spirits and even an assortment of real ale - a recommendation here of the Bakewell Best. The food seemed to accompany the environment and vice versa. They use independent and locally sourced produce which was instantly clear when tasting the flavour and quality of the food. Each dish was presented beautifully making the experience all the more wholesome and memorable. For starters we indulged in the monkfish scampi and tartare sauce (£8) and the basil and mozzarella arancini (£7). Both starters were fresh, light and

L

26 www.sheffieldvibe.com

generous in portion. The monkfish seemed a popular option amongst other diners around and it was clear as to why that was – it was well balanced and remarkably flavoursome. The arancini was delicious and each component complemented the other perfectly. For mains we were almost stuck for choice with the carefully pieced together selection of meals. For us it had to be the 7oz 28-day aged fillet steak, chunky chips, mushrooms, tomato and blue cheese sauce (£27) and the pork and leek sausages, creamy mash, seasonal greens and gravy (£14). Both were moreish and compacted with flavour to transport us to another place. The steak was tender, well rested and was cooked to perfection. There was a very generous portion of salad and chunky chips to accompany it. The sausages were extremely smooth in texture and I was left with a great big smile on my face after indulging, the creamy mash was indeed creamy and buttery and the freshness of the seasonal greens was pleasant. For dessert taking on the recommendation of the waitress we had the sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and ice cream (£6) and the rich chocolate brownie and ice cream (£6). Both finished the meal off perfectly and left us feeling pleasantly full and content.

Presented beautifully and rich in flavour, both were lovely. The waitresses were personable and had a good knowledge of the menu. Other diners seemed to be having a great time, facilitated by all the work the staff were doing to ensure their happiness. The experience provided was both classy and comfortable, a mix that married together perfectly. The Peacock Inn is located right next to Linacre Reservoir which has beautiful walks through nature. It is only a 15minute drive from Dronfield and worth a trip from Sheffield. It appeals to hikers/walkers, cyclists or if you’re out for a scenic drive. Why not try out one of their afternoon teas, come to their burger night on Mondays from 5pm, bring your family for a Sunday roast dinner or simply enjoy the menu any other time in the week? Meet the chef A SELECTION OF LOCAL COOKS SHARE THEIR KITCHEN SECRETS, CULINARY LOVES AND FOODIE INFLUENCES.

Adrian Gagea

David Palfi

Adrian works largely at The Maynard but also at The George in Hathersage. Family has been a big inspiration to him. “My grandmother, great-grandmother and of course, my mother. All of these lovely ladies cooked for our families with such pleasure and joy, using simple and flavoursome ingredients with traditional techniques resulting in consistently delicious food,” he said. Both venues utilise local produce which you’ll find throughout their menus but L-R: Adrian there’s one thing in and David particular that is Adrian’s favourite: “I love doing Sunday roasts. All of the fresh roast vegetables, duck fat and herbs roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese bubbling in cheese sauce, crispy Yorkshire pudding… and the most tender sirloin from our local butchers. I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone.” To find out more, call 01433 424110 or visit https://the-maynard.com/

David came to England around 2006 from Hungary and after having a few different jobs found his passion in the kitchen - he loved the atmosphere and vibe. He’s based at the newly-opened George in Hathersage and, backed by an ‘amazing team’, loves working with fresh fish as well as putting his twist on classic British dishes. “We have recently spent over £400k on a full refurbishment at the George, with a new menu too,” he said. “I really like salmon or mackerel, either smoked or not, and using fresh local vegetables to go with the seasons. “I really enjoy modern British cuisine. I like preparing traditional dishes with a modern slant, bringing twists, flair and new techniques to the dishes.” Call 01433 650436 to find out more or visit https://thegeorgehathersage.com

David Palmer

Peacock at Cutthorpe David joined the Peacock in 2018. Taking inspiration from his dad growing up, he confesses to having a sweet tooth and loves working with chocolate and making new desserts. Sticky toffee pudding is one of the favourite dishes at the Peacock – “Come rain or shine and on every menu it’s there because it is such a classic dish and we have definitely perfected it over the years,” he said. The Peacock pride themselves on using local and seasonal produce to bring out the very best of what the area has to offer. While lockdowns have been gently easing and the public have been enjoying going out to eat they have focused on a smaller menu that caters to a wide range and maintaining the high standards they are known for. David believes the pub has enhanced appeal with its sizeable outdoor seating area and it’s proximity to walking paths and Linacre reservoir. “I know that I’ll still be here as the sous, we’re all very lucky here at the Peacock to have such an understanding manager and head chef,” added David. “It’s a good work life balance and I’m very happy where I am... and the sticky toffee will still be here as well.” Call 01246 563669 to find out more or visit https://cutthorpe.net

Andrew Wornes Bank House

The kitchen is the perfect place for Andrew to create and experiment. Spending a lot of time in the family kitchen, making Sunday dinners and how to make the most of leftovers, is what inspired him to pursue a career in catering. The restaurant’s eclectic menus keep Andrew and his team on their toes. “I think the whole small plates menu sums me up,” he said. “The mix of dishes from various cultures gives me the opportunity to put across the different aspects of who I am as a chef and person.” As we move into the autumn/winter months, Andrew is focusing on Bank House’s seasonal a la carte menu and is also working on a kitchen conversion project with work due to start in January, which will double its size and add some of the latest kitchen technology. There’s even rumours of a second Bank House venue… “As a business we’re grow’ng rapidly,” he added. “I was appointed a company director last year and I suppose in five years time I’ll be overseeing a few kitchens, but I like to think I’ll still be cooking at Bank House as it’s what I enjoy.” For more information, call 01433 449060 or visit www.bankhousehathersage. co.uk

ooking for something to do during lockdown last year, Wingerworth grandad Mark Campbell set out to build his granddaughter a treehouse - and exceeded all her expectations. The 60-year-old retiree, who was forced to shield during the early stages of the pandemic, quickly decided that a treehouse wasn‘t going to cut it and decided to build something much more spectacular. The result is a fairytale castle, called Winterwood, which was inspired by illustrations from two-year-old granddaughter Sienna’s favourite story books. The two-storey pine creation stands 12 feet tall and has recently been chosen as the winner of 2021 Cuprinol Shed of the Year’s Lockdown category following a public vote. Mark explains: “It was my eldest son who gave me the idea, reminding me that my father had wanted to build a treehouse for me when I was young but could never find the time. “History was about to repeat itself with my son and his daughter, so I took the initiative and built this. “As a retired chap I wore several caps, designer, builder, financier and general dogsbody. I have absolutely no experience in building, especially with wood and not even when I was at school.” Mark followed internet tutorials while building the castle and jokes that he had to watch what he ate during the process - so he could fit through its tiny door. The project took three and half months from start to finish. “I blame my son for all this,” added Mark. “He suggested I should enter the competition so just as a bit of a giggle I got a couple of photos together, did a bit of a write-up and sent it off. “Since then it’s been on the telly, on French TV (so I can claim I’m an international TV personality) and in the local and national press. One photographer who came asked if I would put it on AirBnB as he wanted to rent it.” Speaking of the win, Mark said: “It’s amazing what you can do with a bit of enthusiasm. I didn’t think I’d be in with a chance of winning, so I’m utterly amazed. “It was a voyage into the unknown and a lot of fun except for the occasion

L

when I fell off my ladder into a very prickly holly hedge.” But what was Sienna’s reaction? Mark, who was a senior consultant to the banking industry before retiring, recalled: “She was absolutely amazed. She went very quiet which was quite rare. She had a look around, went upstairs - and that was that - we couldn’t get her out.” Head judge and founder of the competition Andrew Wilcox said: “We have been blown away by the creativity, passion and dedication on display from sheddies across the country. The amount of care and attention people have devoted to their sheds this year is inspiring. “Entrants have made full use of their sheds, demonstrating how versatile and multi-purpose they can be. Whether they’ve built a pub or bar, a place to socialise, a business or just a space to relax, there seems to be no limit to what they can achieve. “As we have emerged from the pandemic and lockdown restrictions, The sketch Mark based design on

gardens are places where friends and family can gather and reunite, so it’s wonderful to see sheds play a key role in this.” Kirsty Woodbine, Marketing Manager for Cuprinol, added: “The sheer ingenuity demonstrated by this year’s Cuprinol Shed of the Year winners is unrivalled in the competition’s 15-year history. “At Cuprinol we’re committed to inspiring people to find creative ways to transform their outdoor spaces - whether it’s a vibrant lick of paint on a brand new summerhouse or handcrafting impressive structures from recycled materials! We are truly amazed and delighted by the creations we’ve seen this year - they just get better and better.” The overall winner of this year’s competition is Danielle Zarb-Cousin, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex. She built her seventies-inspired Creme De Menthe bar in the back garden of her parent’s house after splitting from her fiance Love Island’s Jonny Mitchell. Now that Mark has built the ultimate fairytale, does he have any plans to build anything else? “I’ve had a few requests,” he said. “But I’d like to build a pedal plane - it’s a scaled-down biplane built as a pedal car. I’ve no idea how to bend plywood but I’m sure I can find a way, there’ll be something on the internet.” The sky is clearly the limit for this enthusiastic and extremely talented grandad.

IN BRIEF

Getting greener

Shop in style Residents and visitors to Chesterfield can enjoy themselves during half term as the annual 1940s market returns for 2021. Taking place on Thursday 28 October between 10am and 4pm, visitors can enjoy 40s music, entertainment, exhibits and meet the stall holders in period dress at the free event. Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “The 1940s Market is one of the most popular events in our calendar and I’m delighted that we’ve managed to bring it back this year. “I hope lots of people will come along and support our local businesses and traders, there will be lots to do and it should be fun for all ages.” Chesterfield Museum will also be open as usual from 10am to 4pm where visitors can learn more about the town’s history and visit a special exhibition that has been created in partnership with the Chesterfield African Caribbean Community Association (ACCA) that will help you learn about the history and experiences of Chesterfield’s black community. More activities and entertainers are still being confirmed, find out more about the event by visiting: www.visitchesterfield.info/40s

Outstanding achievement Peter Kelsey, the man who founded and led Designer Contracts to become the UK’s largest flooring contractor, has been honoured with an Outstanding Achievement in the Flooring Industry award. Announced at the Contract Flooring Journal’s 2021 awards ceremony, held at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire, Peter was described as a “giant of the UK flooring industry”. A personal commitment to sustainability has seen the company named ‘Take Back Partner of the Year’ four times in the Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) annual awards. And Peter’s many charitable contributions – particularly to Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield and the national children’s help line, ChildLine – have cemented his reputation as a philanthropic entrepreneur. Said Peter: “The award came as a total surprise – it was a secret that I simply wasn’t in on when I was asked by colleagues to attend the event! I’m incredibly proud of what the company has achieved but without the fantastic team that is Designer Contracts, we wouldn’t be where we are today – it really has been down to the hard work and dedication of a lot of people over many years.” 50 www.sheffieldvibe.com

Yorkshire Windows is meeting its carbon footprint target after planting 500 sustainable trees. All windows fitted by Yorkshire Windows now feature the groundbreaking EcoMAX glass, created by Durham based Clayton Glass to spark a wider movement among the IGU manufacturing industry towards conscientious material choices. And as part of that exclusive partnership,Yorkshire Windows - in association with EcoMAX - is also planting a tree in honour of each EcoMAX installation, offsetting the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process. “To be able to say that we have now planted 500 trees is beyond all our expectations and we are very proud that we are taking positive steps towards tackling global warming,” said Yorkshire Windows Managing Director Ian Chester. “The trees have been planted in a sustainable forest development and our aim is that in the months ahead we will be able easily to double that figure. “Customers are very aware of issues like climate change and they want to know what our industry is doing to combat the crisis. We can now assure them that our exclusive relationship with Clayton Glass and EcoMAX addresses many of the issues that concern them most and that we are taking every possible step towards creating a greener industry.” It is also already the supplier of Smartglass Dynamic another Clayton Glass product - the first automatically selftinting glass technology for conservatories, orangeries and other glazing elements. Jessica’s bid Current Miss Sheffield, Jessica Jones will be competing in the Miss Great Britain event, which will be held in Leicester in September. This is the second time the 26year-old qualified nurse has represented the city in the competition and she will be hoping to make a favourable impression with the judges. “Miss Great Britain is judged on how you perform on the night with fashion, swimwear and evening gown rounds as well as an interview and then your performance,” she said. Before the competition, each contestant has to raise money for a chosen charity, generating their own publicity in their home city - which is why Jess needs your help. “I am currently raising money for Cancer Research UK, which is a charity close to my heart as my dad has just got all clear, and Alex’s Wish, which helps children with muscular dystrophy,” she said. “If anyone could donate that would be fantastic. You can do so at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ JessicaJones69 and I am also for more exposure with events and interviews. It all goes to helping me hopefully bring the crown back to Sheffield.”
