Hey Division 14!

It's a new service year! I am so excited to be your Lieutenant Governor, again, for the 2023-2024 service year This is the first publication of the Adirondack Announcements this new service year! I am thrilled to kick off another amazing service year with all of you! I hope we can continue all of the amazing virtual and in person service we have been accomplishing. Remember to fill out the MRF every month to report service hours, and more! I hope everyone is taking time to relax and enjoy the warm weather after the conclusion of AP Exams! Let's start the service year strong :)

Easter Egg Hunt Easter Egg Hunt

Builders Club and Key Club hosted their annual Easter Egg Hunt. We had 3 separate locations on the NACS campus for different age groups, just to make the hunting fair. 300 eggs were hidden for toddlers and preschoolers, 500 for students grades K-2, and 550 for grades 3-5. Each group took less than 2 minutes to find all the eggs!!

In front of the boat are Builders Club, in the playground are Key Clubbers, and on the tennis court are both groups. The other pictures are of the kiddos who came out.

Division 24 Spotlight Division 24 Spotlight

Over the third weekend of April OFA Key Club participated in two events. On April 22nd, Earth Day, our club, along with our school’s esteemed Earth Club, hosted a cleanup along the Maple City Trail, which stretches from the edge of the river throughout the city and ends along the Oswegatchie River. Officers from both clubs were present with many members attending. Though multi-club collaborations are usually far and few inbetween, our board would like to continue these collaborations in the future.

Meanwhile, on April 23rd a second group of Key Club volunteers participated in the St. Lawrence County’s 3rd annual Trash Dash. This yearly event was over the span of two days and had cleanups in five towns/cities: Gouvernor, Rensselaer Falls, Potsdam, Massena, and finally, the one we attended, Ogdensburg. Key Club members and other volunteers picked up trash along County Route 28A while wearing fluorescent yellow vests. This is the second year our club has participated and we are planning to continue doing so for as long as possible.

A big thank you to all of our club members who volunteered this Earth Day weekend to help save our planet, one cleanup at a time.

You can answer question in a variety of categories, ranging from grammar to geography. It is a great way to test your knowledge while helping others. Charity Miles lets you log all types of movement, from running and walking to biking. Be a mover and changemaker in any way that fits your lifestyle. For every mile you move, you help raise money for UNICEF. Charity Miles is a great and simple way to continue being involved. Once you have downloaded the app, go to groups and look up:

District Project District Project

The District Project has not yet been announced, but will be very soon! Keep an eye out! This year's finalists were: The Trevor Project, St. Jude, & The National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation.

Governor's Project Governor's Project

Room to Read works to ensure that primary school students can become independent readers and can develop literacy skills in low income areas. Their main goal is to have children grow up learning how to read and write to make sure they can succeed later in life. Room to Read also supports girls in completing secondary school. They are present in 10 countries across Asia and Africa. Room to Read was founded on the belief that "World Change Starts With Educated Children" They have distributed over 26 million books, and have trained 15,000 teachers.

District Endorsed Project District Endorsed Project

The Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation supports and advocates for child victims of Lyme Disease, which is caused by bacteria usually transmitted by the deer tick and can lead to complications if not immediately treated. Most insurance companies do not pay for Lyme Disease treatment, so the foundation helps lower the cost of treatment for children with the disease. For more information click here.

International Trustee International Trustee

Hi NYDKC!

My name is Ava Stamatakis, and I have the honor of serving as your Key Club International Trustee! The other districts I serve are the Alabama District and the Caribbean-Atlantic District. Together, our “sister” districts make up the NewCariBama Sistrict!

My job as International Trustee is to spread awareness of Key Club’s global presence, to connect members to resources, and to support district leadership in whatever ways I can. In this regard, you will see me holding monthly office hours, hosting quarterly sistrict events, sending monthly newsletters, posting on Instagram frequently (follow @newaribama), and much more. The majority of my job, however, is dedicated to committee work at the international level, which I will update you on throughout the year

International Convention International Convention

Get excited for ICON 2023! Lights, Camera and Service at the Key Club International Convention in Anaheim, California, July 5-9, 2023.

Attendees will benefit from inspiring workshops and speaker sessions, support their district’s leaders, and go home with new service projects and ideas that will help them become better leaders. Registration is now closed, so I hope those of you attending have the greatest time in California!

Keynote Speakers include Princess Sarah Culberson, Leah Marlene, & Adam Klein!

Here are some service ideas for your clubs!

Can and Bottle Recycling

-Set up a time when a group of volunteers will help collect cans, bottles, and other recyclable things. Then, you can sell these to recycling centers to gain funds for your project!

Car Wash

-Host a car wash and get service hours! You could also charge a few dollars and donate the money.

Beautify a park or beach in your neighborhood

-Clean up a local beach or park and help beautify your community!

Food Drive

-Collect non-perishable food items to donate to a local food pantry
