Scarf-a-Life Scarf-a-Life

Ticonderoga Key Club completed their annual Scarf-a-Life project this past January. In this project our club hangs hand knit scarves around town for community members in need to take. A label on the bags read: "I am not lost. If you are cold, please take me with you. (Donated by the Ticonderoga JuniorSenior High School Key Club)." When the project originated, Key Club purchased the scarves and placed them around town. Once word got out, we had one particular (anonymous) donor begin hand knitting scarves for us each and every year since. She plays a huge part in this project and helps to keep us going. This is one of our favorite projects to do each year and it's a great way of giving back to our community. It always proves to be a very fulfilling and meaningful experience.

As December rolled around, Shaker Key Club leaned into the holiday spirit, looking to serve our community during the season of giving, as we do each year. With places now fully open, us officers looked for in-person volunteer opportunities for members, but due to certain limitations we turned to an organization we had worked with in the past, the Unity House in Troy NY. Last fall, Shaker Key Club partnered with the Unity House, a homeless shelter, to help make Fall and Halloween related decorations to spruce up their offices and distribute to those in need. Now, being in the holiday season, the Unity House requested a similar project, but this time Winter-related. On December 9th, Key Club members gathered to make Holiday Crafts and decorations for the Unity House to decorate their offices. Each officer learned to make a specific craft and lead a smaller subsection of members to do the same. This included 3-D and 2-D paper snowflakes and paper chains snowmen. Following the meeting, the items were donated in person to the Unity House. With a large meeting turn out, we not only were able to make and donate an abundant amount of decorations, but the Unity House was even presented an award for how well decorated their offices were!! We thank the Unity House for providing us, once again, with a service opportunity and our members for their contributions!
