important updates, as well as some fun and games! We all need a little debriefing before school begins, so there will be some games after the divisional!! I hope to see a lot of you there! I have also included a lot of service ideas for your clubs to use! Although it may be challenging to get together during these times, service can still continue virtually and remotely! WALKING FOR UNICEF Our division just wrapped up our first service event of the summer. Charity Miles is an app that donates money to a charity of your choice for every mile you walked, ran or biked. Division 14 chose to benefit UNICEF, one of Key Club International’s Preferred Charities. UNICEF works in almost 200 countries across the world to help protect thousands of innocent children each year. Most recently, they have worked tirelessly to combat the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide. My family and I have gone on walks most every night, making little adventures in our small, beautiful town. Our walks started before the pandemic, but going outside and seeing people is something that isn’t the norm just quite yet. I usually listen to music as I walk, so the app running in the background is not a big change. Knowing that the exercise that I do can help children in other countries really makes my day. Division 14’s team had 23 members and we walked 1,500 miles! That is quite a lot of money being donated to UNICEF, which is such a cool thing. I will continue to use Charity Miles on my own now!! A MESSAGE FROM DIVISION 21 Considering the COVID-19 situation, many of the clubs can't get together in a public situation. Quarantine is hard. Being in month 5 is unbelievable. It sometimes seems nothing will ever be the go back. In August we all usually start preparing for the next school year. Even that is different. Luckily very recently New York Governor Cuomo has announced that all schools are set to open. There are many mixed feelings about this decision however the reasons he chose to do this have merit. Although it may not affect everyone , many parents rely on their children getting a meal from the school cafeteria. Just as students rely on the school for mental and physical health aid. My parents and family are lucky as we are all above the age of 16 and can be held responsible for schoolwork. Many families differ as elementary children cannot participate in online school without parental help. Unfortunately not everyone is a stay at home parent and they need to work. This whole situation we are going through has completely changed my perspectives on everyday tasks. I try to keep a schedule everyday to keep my days new and different. I have a cluster of people I can contact and keep in touch with which has been so helpful and keep me sane. In my division it has been hard to get the clubs together but efforts are being made. I hope everyone is staying healthy both physically and mentally! Kate Barclay, LTG Jamesville DeWitt Highschool Division 21

GOVERNOR'S PROJECT

This year, Governor Mariam has chosen Canines for Disabled Kids as her Governor's Project. They promote service dogs for children with disabilities. As of 2017, they have helped more than 3,500 kids in 11 states. Since 1998, CDK has sponsored over 130 service dogs. All of the services provided by CDK are FREE of charge! These include educational presentations, booth events, and Americans with Disability (ADA) consulting. For more information about Canines for Disabled Kids, click here.

DISTRICT PROJECT This year, our District Project is Project Hope! For more than 60 years, Project HOPE has transformed the health and well-being of people and communities around the world. We work on the front lines of the world’s health challenges, partnering hand-in-hand with communities, health care workers and public health systems to ensure sustainable change. For more information about Project Hope, click here. Division 14 August Newsletter ~ Page 8

DISTRICT ENDORSED PROJECT The Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation was created in the 2000-2001 service year. Lyme Disease is caused by the bacteria found in deer ticks. The faster the treatment, the lower possibilities of longer symptoms. Many insurance companies do not pay for treatment, so the KPLDF works hard to help lower the cost. To support the Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation, your club can host a take a bite out of a "lyme" fundraiser, or host a "key lyme" pie in the face contest.
