ADIRONDACK ANNOUNCEMENTS DIVISION FOURTEEN'S AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Written by: Eliza Strum, Lieutenant Governor

A NOTE FROM ME ~ YOUR LTG Hey Division 14!

Happy August! I have been so happy with the service happening this summer and the participation in our division wide events! So thank you all for being great :) As the school year is coming soon, now is the time to think about your plans. If you have yet to hold your officers election, that should be one of the first things on your mind as the Election report Form is due on September 30th! You can find election information and many service ideas later in this publication. Also in the fall we should have our first in person divisional, as well as Fall Conference, so get excited! Finally, even if your club has been inactive over the summer, your secretary should still be filling out the MRF. The July MRF was due on August 10th, but it is never too late to fill it out and any other missing MRF's you may have.

Yours in Service,

ltg eliza

ELECTIONS

If your club has yet to host an election for club officers that should be a top priority when the school year begins. The recognized officers of each Key Club are the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, editor and one director from each class. These officers make up the club’s board of directors and have duties that are outlined in the club bylaws. Below are some election resources! Election of Key Club Officers Guide How to Host Virtual Elections (if your club meetings will be done virtually)

RECRUITING MEMBERS

Recruiting new members is important each year to help your club grow. The Key Club International website has all sorts of recruitment and marketing resources for your club to take advantage of! BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE

Back to school shopping has always been one of the highlights of my summer growing up. I enjoyed picking out different kinds of pens and notebooks to make school a little bit more fun and less boring. On August 13, Middletown Key Club went to Walmart to buy items to donate to a back-to-school drive sponsored by Personto-Person. We spent $200 to fill a few bookbags with notebooks, scissors, glue sticks, and other basic supplies students need for school. It felt really good to buy things for others instead of myself. I’m so glad we had the opportunity to get supplies for people to use for in-person learning, rather than learning through a computer screen. This event made me excited to go back to school in person to see my friends and teachers. I’m looking forward to the rest of the service year and finding small ways to make a big difference. -Jasmine Merritt Middletown High School Division 13

DISTRICT PROJECT

When Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer just before her first birthday, was four, she told her parents she wanted to set up a front-yard lemonade stand. Her plan: to give the money to doctors to help them find a cure. Her first “Alex’s Lemonade Stand”, held with the help of her older brother Patrick, raised an astonishing $2,000 in one day. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is changing the lives of children with cancer by funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer. ALSF and its supporters are propelling the world towards a future without childhood cancer. Everyone can make a difference and help find cures for childhood cancer
