December Edition! Written By: Chloe Baker Lieutenant Governor

A Note From Me - Your LTG Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends and are getting ready for the holiday season! Whatever your families may celebrate, I wish you all the best. I am personally excited for all the upcoming snow, because I love to ski and enjoy the snow days as they appear. As you host your meetings and service projects, please make sure to keep up with your paperwork! Some of you have not filled out the MFRs from the spring. Please check the paperwork tracker towards the end of this newsletter to see what your club owes. Fall Rally was very successful, and I hope Division 14 will have a greater turnout in the future. Next, we can look forward towards the Leadership Training Conference in the Spring! I hope that all of you have a wonderful December and good luck to all of the seniors applying to colleges and the athletes this winter season! Yours Truly, Chloe Baker

Service Project Ideas It's the holiday season, also known as the season of giving! This year, please be sure to host a service project or two! Here are some ideas: - Volunteer at a local soup kitchen - Host a photo with Santa event - Shovel senior citizens' driveways - Host a gift wrapping station benefiting a District project - Make Christmas cards for troops overseas - Make treats and hand deliver them to emergency services - Go caroling at a local nursing home - Help your neighbor set up their Christmas lights Have other ideas? Let me know!

Service Spotlight Kiwanis Senior Citizen Luncheon On Wednesday, December 4, Ticonderoga High School Key Club served and coordinated the annual Kiwanis Senior Citizen Luncheon at Ticonderoga Middle School. Members helped decorate, serve food and clean up at the event. Placemats were made from elementary school children and the centerpieces were created by high school art students. Key Clubbers helped set up tables with students in Home & Career courses, as well as their special needs classmates. Musical groups from both the high school and middle school performed wonderful renditions of classic Christmas Carols. Many adults from various homes and organizations came to see the event that was partially hand made by the students themselves. The tradition of coming to the luncheon is something that many look forward to in the holiday season. In conjunction with musical groups, a wonderful afternoon was hosted for members of the community. Also, Santa Claus himself made a guest appearance, which was a delight for all. -Kimberly Wojick, Member, Ticonderoga High School

Service Spotlight RED Bookshelf Repairs The Red Bookshelf is an organization based in Albany, NY that aims to ensure each child in Albany has the opportunity to own books, because having books in their home equips them with the tools for better literacy achievement. The Bright Red Bookshelf Program came to Albany in February, 2009 as a neighborhood literacy program of the Center Square Association. Through the years, as word got out, bookshelves were added, as more neighbors and friends supported the program. In 2016, the Bright Red Bookshelf Program of Albany was incorporated as The RED Bookshelf, an independent nonprofit. Since its beginning in 2009, The RED Bookshelf has distributed more than 50,000 books for children in Albany! This Wednesday, Albany High School’s Key Club participated in book reconditioning through the Red Bookshelf. “We are all so happy to lend a helping hand in promoting literacy in the capital region,” says Alison Hayes, Webmaster. “A big thank you to red bookshelf and LTG Jenna for stopping by!” -Albany High School, Division 16

Governor's Project The New York Chapter of the Special Olympics is an organization that helps people with intellectual disabilities experience working as a team and other assets that come from playing a sport. The athletes also develop life long friendships along the way.
