January Edition! Written By: Chloe Baker Lieutenant Governor

A Note From Me - Your LTG Hi Everyone! Happy New Year! My year has been off to a great start so far. My family loves to ski, so we have hit the slopes a few times already this decade. I wish all of you the best year yet and memories that will last a lifetime. It's crazy to believe that this is 2020. 100 years ago, times were much different. In fact, this years LTC will pay homage to the Roaring 20s, so be sure to register! I will discuss more about the amazing weekend later in this newsletter. As you host your meetings and service projects, be sure to keep up with your paperwork! Please check the paperwork tracker towards the end of this newsletter to see what your club owes. I hope that all of you have a wonderful January and good luck to all of the seniors applying to colleges and the athletes this winter season! Yours Truly, Chloe Baker

Service Spotlight A huge thank you to all that contributed to the deployed NACS alumni soldier collection sponsored by K Kids, Builders Club, and Key Club. 15 boxes were sent to three alum, Tracy Amato , Tuffield Peryea and Amy Goodrow ). The monetary donations given were greatly appreciated, as they helped to cover postage. Faculty and staff donate gently used items throughout the school year and Key Club members sort through them, set up a 'store', and then the students come down to shop for family members. All items are 25 cents, so the students can afford presents for their family. Bigger items are set up on a raffle table that the students can buy tickets for. Key Club (and some Builders Club) members then help the students wrap their presents. This is our second year of having the 'shop'. - DeAnne Gregory, Advisor Northern Adirondack

Service Spotlight Averill Park High School recently participated in an AdoptA-Family program along with their sponsoring Kiwanis Club. They collected food for families in need for a Christmas Dinner. The local Kiwanis Club collects from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Along with the meal, the children in the family were given a few Christmas presents. Thanks to everyone's cooperation, a family in need had a wonderful holiday. - Ashleigh Mein Lieutenant Governor, Division 18

Governor's Project The New York Chapter of the Special Olympics is an organization that helps people with intellectual disabilities experience working as a team and other assets that come from playing a sport. The athletes also develop life long friendships along the way. I know that in our division specifically there is multiple Unified Basketball Teams, so be sure to lend a hand at practice and support the best you can!

District Project Project Semicolon advocates for suicide prevention through public awareness, educating communities, and giving people the tools they need for their mental health. Since 2013, Project Semicolon has helped more than 5 million individuals. *Please refrain from using the phrases ‘commit suicide’ or ‘successful suicide’ and instead say ‘died by suicide’*

District Endorsed Project The Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation was created in the 2000-2001 service year. Lyme Disease is caused by the bacteria found in deer ticks. In New York State, it is common for people to find a deer tick on them if they have spent a long time outdoors. The faster the treatment, the lower possibilities of longer symptoms. Many insurance companies do not pay for treatment, so the KPLDF works hard to help lower the cost.
