NORTHERN ADIRONDACK KEEPS BUSY In December, NACS took a ‘pause’ from in-person instruction and students learned remotely. During that time, the Key Club advisors hung motivational signs and posters on every classroom and office door so when the students returned, they were welcomed back with inspirational quotes (and faculty/staff got a little encouragement, too!). On behalf of Key Club, the advisors gave every faculty, staff, and Board of Education member snack baggies that contained chocolates and a Kind bar, with the encouraging note, “Be KIND to yourself and indulge a little.”, to help boost their morale, as they were missing their students! Every December, Key Club sends packages to deployed NACS alumni who are serving in the military. Since our students were on pause at the time of the collection, they were asked to send various items in and also voted to spend $100 on items. Faculty and staff helped with the collection and five boxes filled with necessities and Christmas cards were sent to an actively deployed NACS alumni (razors, hard candies, puzzle books, eye drops, jerky, etc.). Three other active NACS alumni serving in the military received envelopes full of Christmas cards sent in by Key Club members, faculty and staff, or created by Elementary students. Key Club members were given a little token of appreciation for all they do with a Christmas ‘key’ ornament and a few chocolates. The tag reads: NACS Key Club 2020 Providing Community Service-even in a Pandemic. -Northern Adirondack Key Club

DISTRICT PROJECT This year, our District Project is Project Hope! For more than 60 years, Project HOPE has transformed the health and wellbeing of people and communities around the world. We work on the front lines of the world’s health challenges, partnering hand-inhand with communities, health care workers and public health systems to ensure sustainable change. For more information about Project Hope, click here. Division 14 January Newsletter ~ Page 10

DISTRICT ENDORSED PROJECT The Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation was created in the 2000-2001 service year. Lyme Disease is caused by the bacteria found in deer ticks. The faster the treatment, the lower possibilities of longer symptoms. Many insurance companies do not pay for treatment, so the KPLDF works hard to help lower the cost. To support the Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation, your club can host a take a bite out of a "lyme" fundraiser, or host a "key lyme" pie in the face contest.
