NEW YORK DISTRICT OF KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL

ADIRONDACK ANNOUNCEMENTS DIVISION FOURTEEN'S JULY NEWSLETTER

Written By: Chloe Baker, Lieutenant Governor

A NOTE FROM ME - YOUR LTG Hey Hey Hey Division 14! Happy Summer! Hopefully you were able to see the new division logo, located on the cover of this newsletter! Although this school year came to an odd ending, hopefully normalcy will return by the fall. My summer will consist of me working a lot, and spending quality time with my friends and family. Let me know what you will be doing! In the beginning of the month, Key Club International hosted their first virtual ICON, the Summer Leadership Conference. Key Clubbers from around the world listened to Keynote

Speakers, attended workshops, and the International Council voted on our new International Board. More information on SLC and the new International Board can be found on pages 5 & 6. Although your Key Clubs may not be meeting during the summer months, please encourage your members to continue their service to their homes, schools, and communities. There are numerous activities that will benefit others both near and far, including our Division's Charity Miles Fundraiser! You can check out our progress update on page 7. In the meantime, please stay safe and help serve your communities. Caring - It's Our Way of Life! Yours in Service, Chloe Baker Division 14 Lieutenant Governor

DIVISION 14 WALKS FOR UNICEF This summer, Division 14 is hosting a Charity Miles fundraiser. For every mile we walk, run, or bike, a certain amount of money is donated to a charity of our choice. The division has chosen to benefit UNICEF, one of Key Club International’s Preferred Charities. UNICEF works in almost 200 countries across the world to help protect thousands of innocent children each year. Participating in this event has taught me to go outside more often because I have started to become much more active. Knowing that walking a simple mile can help both you and children in other countries makes the entire difference. Due to this pandemic, there is not much that we can do. Going outside and be socially distant is something that everyone can do, and could benefit more than yourself. Currently, there are only 14 members on our team, but we have walked more than 350 miles! I look forward to seeing the final amount, and helping children just like me. If you are stuck at home bored out of your mind, I encourage you all to join our team! - Gabriel Vigliotti, President Ticonderoga High School Division 14 July Newsletter ~ Page 3

DIVISION 3 WALKS FOR UNITED WAY The Charity Miles Fundraiser is our most recent Key Club activity that allows members to raise money by walking, running or cycling. We are raising money to relieve financial crises, for access to education to fund crisis services through a foundation called the United Way. The Charity Miles Event was a perfect way to raise for a good cause despite the pandemic going around the world. In my open opinion, it's an easy way to raise money independently, while still giving a participant the satisfaction of making a change. - Sophia Toscano Huntington High School, Division 3

SUMMER LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE RECAP

As someone who was never able to afford going to ICON, this past Summer Leadership Conference was an opportunity for me to get to know more people and expand my horizons about Key Club International. I’ve gotten to know much about my District through friends and LTC but knew nothing about the International scene. Like many other Key Clubbers, I signed up for a variety of things that interested me. Things such as running for a higher position or about an International Project. While I’ve always been interested in the LTG position, I never knew about the responsibilities it entailed or much of the process at all. Through this Lieutenant Governor training session, I was able to learn more about the process itself along with general information about Key Club International. During the meeting, I was able to participate in the question session which allowed me to gain further insight onto things I directly had interest in. In addition to this, I was also eager to attend the awards ceremony the day after. In the awards ceremony, I saw the fruits of my friends' labors as they were recognized for their service. Seeing my club be called out amidst the list of distinguished clubs also was exciting to be a part of. This Summer Leadership Conference was a completely different experience from past events and helped inspire me to be more than what I am now. - Aaron Yu, Bronx Science Key Club Division 11 Division 14 July Newsletter ~ Page 5
