There’s no need to venture off site to satisfy your hunger, there are five incredible dining choices on the resort. Portofino offers international cuisine in a light and airy setting. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner inside or allow yourself to be surrounded in a tropical paradise for your meal on the beautiful garden view patio. If you don’t want to leave the beach or pool, try the pub style Board Room Beach Bar or Seabreeze Poolside Restaurant, which also features a swim up bar. Emerald Casino is located directly in the hotel and offers a variety of gaming options including numerous slot machines and a wide selection of table games If you’re feeling lucky, try your hand at one of the bi-weekly poker tournaments. LETTING GO BY MAYA BANKS REVIEWED BY LISA MACDONALD
Grab a glass of wine, clear your schedule and prepare to lose yourself in Letting Go by Maya Banks. If you were a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey, you will love this story that follows the recently widowed Joss, who decides that after three years it is time to let go of her beloved husband, Carson, and move on. In letting go, Joss resolves that in order to be true to who she is, she must explore a part of herself that she was never able to with her husband – a deep rooted and, carnal urge to be dominated. In a twist of fate, Joss discovers that Dash, her late husband’s handsome best friend and business partner, shares her hunger to be in a dominant / submissive relationship, and also has harboured intense feelings for Joss since the moment he laid eyes on her. Together, they embark on a lascivious adventure where they let go of their inhibitions and explore their deepest and darkest fantasies. Letting Go is not for everyone. It is certainly never going to win the Pulitzer and the subject matter leans towards the darker side of racy. However, plot holes, underdeveloped characters and weak dialogue can be forgiven - let’s be serious ladies, that’s not the criteria we are looking to have filled when we picked up this book. If you are looking to escape, indulge and have a hell of a lot of fun, this book is for you!

You may recognize Allison Holker from television shows like So You Think You Can Dance and VH1’s Hit the Floor. Her career choice was a well choreographed move, as Allison was born to be on stage. Allison’s dream started when she watched her sister perform for RAW, a dance company which was choreographed by the talented Mia Michaels. “After watching my sister’s beautiful performance, I knew that I was going to be a professional dancer”, Allison stated. Her dance training began in Utah, where after graduating she landed a job dancing in the opening ceremonies at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The director of the performance, Kenny Ortega, later gave Allison a role in the movie High School Musical. However, it was Allison’s role in ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, that helped open up various avenues for her in Hollywood. You are now working on VH1’s Hit the Floor. What does a typical day on set entail? On shoot days, our call time is at 6am. We begin with a wardrobe check, and then we do a dress run of our dance piece in costume. Then it’s hair and makeup, which takes two hours. We get extreme and elaborate looks, which helps us get into character. A smoky eye, red lip, big hair, and showing a little skin, makes my character, Charlie, come to life. After the primping is done, we move to the arena floor where the dance and acting scenes are shot. It is usually a 12 hour day. What is the most memorable moment of your career to date? I have two memorable moments. First, choreographing and dancing Heart Cry with Derek Hough on Dancing with the Stars, which earned us an Emmy nomination. Second, would be choreographing the 2014 Oscars promotional video with my husband, Stephen Boss. The promo featured Ellen DeGeneres and 250 dancers. Speaking of your husband, you met him on the set of SYTYCD. Tell us about that love story. We literally danced into our relationship. I am forever grateful to have a man that is so patient, loving, gentle and strong. He is my biggest inspiration. How do you stay healthy and fit, and be able to dance for long periods of time? I love going to the gym and lifting weights. I also eat gluten, dairy, and soy free and drink lots of water. But my biggest workout is having a five year old that I am always running around with.

It’s not that they’re hard, it’s balancing the two that gets difficult. I always wish that I could give more in each field, but I promised myself I would always, no matter how tired I am, give 100% attention to both work and family. This commitment usually means that I lose hours of sleep.
I was once a girl who had a dream to dance, and now I am living that dream.
“
“
Is it hard to juggle your career and motherhood?
In all the years as a dancer, have you ever felt like giving up? Of course, I think as humans we will always have those moments. I always remind myself, I dance not just for myself anymore but to inspire my own daughter and kids all around the world to live and strive for their dreams. I was once a girl who had a dream to dance, and now I am living that dream. Big or small, sane or unrealistic, everyone should make their dreams a reality. What is next for your career?

I am hoping to jump into more acting roles. Also, So You Think You Can Dance starts again this summer, and I always enjoy coming back as an all-star. I hope to choreograph more on the show this season. And finally, what advice do you have for future dancers? Believe in who you are because you are great. There is only one you!

ACQUA DI GIOIA Giorgio Armani introduces a vibrant new fragrance inspired by the very heart of nature. A sensation of freshness is made even more exalting with the addition of peony. Top notes sparkle with zesty Primofiore lemon and blackcurrant bud, fused with a clean, crisp pear and violet leaf accord. Layer by layer, the fragrance unveils its secrets, melting into a lingering, earthy base of cedarwood and cashmeran, lightly sweetened with just a hint of brown sugar for an addictive charm.

Second, we’re not truly open to the possibilities around us because we don’t know how to interact with someone in meaningful way that allows our emotions to move freely. Showing your unique side is really about liberating this little crazy horse we all have inside of us! It is only by being really raw and authentic that we can touch an emotion in someone, as our personality must resonate with the other person’s. So the fact of understanding what makes us unique, to express ourselves to the other in the beginning of seduction, gives us the best chance we can have of seducing. I am convinced that everyone can find love. GRILLED WATERMELON SALAD INGREDIENTS:
DIRECTIONS
• ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
Preheat your grill to 375 degrees.
• 1 teaspoon Simply Organic® cardamom • Extra-virgin olive oil • ½ (5-pound) seedless watermelon • Fleur de sel (or any good, flake salt) • 2 cups organic baby arugula, washed and dried • 1 cup crumbled goat cheese • Simply Organic® ground black pepper, to taste
Place the vinegar and cardamom in a small saucepan and simmer (on the stovetop) to reduce to a syrup, roughly 20 minutes. Do not allow to burn. When it is about the texture of warm maple syrup, remove from the heat and strain into a heatproof bowl. Meanwhile, slice the watermelon into squares, without the rind, about 3x3 inches and ¾ inch thick. Brush them lightly with the olive oil. Grill watermelon about 2 minutes per side, or until it is marked nicely. Remove and season with the salt. Arrange on a plate, alternating layers of watermelon, then arugula, then cheese, then repeat for a three-layer “stack” on each plate. Drizzle with the balsamic reduction, sprinkle to taste with ground black pepper and serve immediately. — Recipe By Simply Organic THE STYLISH LIFE MAGAZINE |

SPORTING FLIP-FLOPS? They’re everywhere these days, and while they may have a limited place in your warmweather wardrobe, flip-flops should not be worn as an everyday summer shoe. Flip-flops provide zero support for your feet and ankles, and their structure leaves you open to toe stubs and ankle injuries. Limit your flipflop use to the poolside or for short strolls up the block. Never wear them on uneven terrain.
LOOKING FOR NEW SANDALS? Stability, support and protection should be top-of-mind when you’re sandal shopping. Look for a sandal with a low, stable sole and a heel cup that allows the sandal to remain well-aligned on your foot while you walk. A toecap
surface of the foot generally lies perpendicular to the rays of the sun when standing. This positioning makes your feet susceptible to more ultraviolet radiation than other parts of the body. Rub sunscreen liberally over the tops and sides of the feet as well as in between toes. Remember to reapply sunscreen to feet and legs throughout the day, especially after swimming.
OPEN SHOES EQUAL DIRT AND DRYNESS. Ever notice how much dirt and sand accumulate on your feet when you’re wearing sandals or going barefoot? Clean feet resist infections, so wash your feet carefully, including in between your toes. Dry thoroughly with your own towel. If dryness develops, apply moisturizer to the soles and the tops of your feet.

THE BIANCA SANTOS LOGIC PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARC CARTWRIGHT WRITTEN BY YAEL GOTTESMAN
Bianca Santos is new to the acting scene, but do not let that deceive you. The talent she brings to both the big and small screens will make you think that she’s been acting for decades. Not surprising, Bianca says that she has always wanted to get into acting. “As a kid you think that it’s so easy. You walk up to the studios and they see you and you will get the part. Unfortunately, my parents and I quickly learned that wasn’t the process and I sort of “gave-up” getting into film acting for a couple of years. I had this epiphany one day, thinking that I could actually make a career out of acting. I had to step away from it, in order to achieve the drive that I have now.” Even though she has always wanted to be an actress, Bianca stated if she were to try another career, that she would be a therapist. “I love helping people and solving their problems. I’m so intrigued by the human condition. Bianca stars in the Family Drama, “The Fosters”, which takes place around an interracial lesbian couple raising a family of biological, adopted and foster children. When asked about her experience on the show, she explained “The Fosters was an amazing experience. We would be sitting around, reading aloud the following episodes and I would think to myself, are they really going to say that!? I love that the show continues to push the envelope on what race and homosexuality looks like in our society. It gives voice to things that we are sometimes afraid to say and sheds a light on those issues. It’s a great catalyst for sparking up discussion and what change could look like in those areas.” Bianca is also currently filming “Ouija”, an action/adventure/thriller film, alongside Darren Kagasoff. “Ouija” is about a group of high school friends who have a sudden death in their circle. It becomes known that the girl was playing with a Ouija board before she died. THE STYLISH LIFE MAGAZINE |

Decoding The First Date BY MELISSA GROSSER
The process of dating can be a stressful, nerve wrecking, hit or miss situation that the majority of people dread in the beginning. When you meet someone or are set up with “the one”, at least according to your mutual friends, you may approach the first date as a job rather than a fun opportunity to interact with an individual who is fresh and new to your world. Instead of treating a first date like a chore, transform it into a fun activity – a chance to experience something new and feeling good as you do it.
Setting The Date To gauge what your date is like, pick up the phone and have a conversation for a few minutes. Get a feel for the person and start to learn what they like. If the conversation flows, dive right in and set up the in-person date. Skip the typical coffee shop – try to find an interactive activity where you two can talk and experience something fun. Rather than experiencing something that feels like a job interview, this is a better way to determine chemistry and common interests when you are relaxed and having fun.
Pre-Date Prep No matter what the background is on the first date – whether you are excited or not, it is important to put your best foot forward. Once you establish where the date will take place, make sure your wardrobe selection is appropriate for the activity. In terms of the actual look, put forth effort so you appear put together and you are showing off your physical attributes with confidence. Let your best self shine through to your date without overdoing yourself. Aside from your attire, keep your mind open and clear. No pre-date research is necessary. Go into it and learn about your date first hand.

LEISURE The remaining friends are persuaded to play it to figure out the mystery of her death. As the friends begin to play, they start to question the voice from the board and whether they will make it out alive. Though she’s filmed a variety of different genres, Bianca’s favourite to film is comedy. “I think I’m funny, but then again I think that I’m a good singer, so my opinion could be skewed. Drama can be fun for me as well. I happily go back and forth between the two.” Bianca gets her inspiration to act from other strong women. “I really admire women in our industry like Meryl Streep and Marion Cotillard. Those are the women that have embodied what I would like to become as a professional. I also look to Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone as tangible successful careers that I dream to have.” She goes on to say that she would love to work with any of these women in future projects. Aside from acting, Bianca has many other special talents which she is quite proud of. “I do a great Cher impression. Also, my Jennifer Coolidge face pout is on point. I’m fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, but that’s not as fun as the first two special talents”. Let’s hope that Bianca sticks to acting, perhaps a job as a Cher impersonator in the future? Whether it be acting on big screen or small, or doing Cher impersonations, the world is just seeing the beginning of Bianca Santos. THE STYLISH LIFE MAGAZINE |

FEELING FABULOUS BY ARIELLE FIERMAN

Summer is finally here. Give your body the TLC that it deserves with these eight simple steps that are guaranteed to put you on the right path towards looking and feeling fabulous this season.
DRINK WATER: This allows you to flush out fat, toxins, rev up your energy and digestion, and make your skin glow. It is recommended that your daily water intake is equivalent to half of your body weight in ounces.
LOAD UP ON GREENS: Raw, steamed, sautéed, chopped, or shredded, no matter which way you eat veggies, they will help make your skin glow, rid your body of toxins, and rev up your immune system.
READ THE INGREDIENTS: Just because something is fat free or low calorie, does not necessarily mean that it will make you lose weight. Alternatively, if a food contains fat, this does not necessarily mean it ’is going to make you fat. A good
rule to go by, if you cannot pronounce an ingredient, your body most likely will not be able to digest it. Focus on ingredients instead of nutrition facts.
MEDITATE: Try sitting up with your hands on your lap facing upwards, for one minute and take three deep breathes. You will automatically get a dose of positivity, a wave of calmness, and a jolt of motivation.
SWEAT: In order to have glowing skin, a rocking body and a healthy heart, you must sweat at least once a day. Choose an exercise that you love to do or even take a sweaty hot bath.
REST: Getting quality zzz’s is the key to a happy life, a body that works, and success
at work. Your digestive system needs time to reboot and your cells need time to regenerate.
CLEANSE: A clean home, a gorgeous desk, and a kitchen stocked with good-for-you foods will dramatically help you feel and look fabulous. Make your bedside stand Pinterest worthy by adding a bud vase and placing a fresh flower in it.
FEEL YOUR GOAL: Do you want skinny arms so that you can feel fabulous walking down the aisle at your best friend’s wedding? Focus on feeling fabulous, rather than skinny arms. When you focus on how you want to feel, rather than the goal itself, it takes the pressure off and the goal is much more attainable.

How to Get Remarkable Skin BY DR SUSAN STUART, CERTIFIED DERMATOLOGIST
There is so much conflicting information out there on what you should and shouldn’t do in regards to skincare. In order to set the record straight, we reached out to Dr. Susan Stuart to help us get the down low on all things skin related!
ACNE: Acne is not a hygiene problem; it’s a hormonal issue. Excessively cleaning your face won’t get rid of acne. Instead of attempting to scrub your pimpleprone skin into submission, wash it gently with a foaming face wash that’s designed to lift off dirt without irritating your skin. And if you do feel compelled to enlist a scrub, use it no more than once a week, choosing a product that has even-sized, round beads, not rough particles.
STRESS: Stress causes your body to go into survival mode by pumping adrenaline to heighten the senses. While this is healthy if you are in danger, prolonged periods of stress can take a toll on your skin. When the body is in survival mode, the most vital organs like the heart, lungs and brain work overtime. The
CLEANSING: Using harsh cleansers to clean your skin will strip away the natural oils that protect it from dirt, pollution and other factors that can easily damage your skin. Do your skin a favor and use mild cleaners, they’re much gentler and still effective.
WASHING YOUR FACE AT THE WRONG TIME: Always wash your face after you rinse out your hair products and conditioner in the shower, never before. Many conditioners contain pore-clogging isopropyl myristate and other hair products often contain coconut oil -- both are common acne-causing ingredients that you don’t want to leave on your skin.
DIET: What you eat shows directly on your face. Eating too many sweets or fatty foods will leave your skin looking unhealthy. A healthy diet is integral for a healthy younger looking face.

The biggest surprise though was how candid and witty the respondents were in providing written reasoning for their choices. I better watch out, or one of them might be scooped up and given my job! The guys had the funniest responses, but the women taught me the most with their responses.
HERE ARE A FEW OF THE HIGHLIGHTS: • No pubic hair offers a “clean work environment” • A bit of hair that is trimmed is best as the “point of impact needs a bit of cushioning” • When a woman is freshly shaven you can “just rub your face all up in that shit” • Some pubes are best as “the little guy just looks lonely when its bare” • For lesbian partners, bare vaginas offer more close and intense contact when scissoring • No pubes are preferred for this particular gentleman because “I don’t

food trends BY NICKI LABORIE OF VIEW THE VIBE
Every year, the culinary world introduces new trends that have all the foodies in a tizzy, wondering “what’s coming next”? Naturally, 2014 is no different, but one thing that brings a smile to my face is that we may finally be seeing the over-the-top food trend
die down. (I, for one, would be elated to never hear the word “cronut” again.) Bacon lovers will always exist, but does that mean we need to put it in everything? Burgers are great, obviously, but do we need to keep adding variation upon variation upon variation? And don’t even get me started on ramen, suffice it to say my lips are tired from slurping those slippery noodles. Well, it seems this year we will see less bacon, burgers, and ramen-esque eats in lieu of creativity, healthier ingredients, and exotic overtures. One trend that has people buzzing is “Middleterranean” cuisine; these restaurants are popping up everywhere. Not quite Middle Eastern, not simply Mediterranean, restaurateurs are blending the spiced flavours of the former with the freshness and vibrancy of the latter,

Chefs everywhere can’t seem to get enough of this crunchy white veggie, whose florets can be manipulated into pure magic. Think about it as a side – sautéed in brown butter, capers and lemon, or cold in a crunchy salad with chili and breadcrumbs. Indeed, the vegetable we all hated as children is now the cool kid in town. The same can be said about popcorn. More and more restaurants have added inventive gourmet popcorn to their menus or offer it instead of bread. Barbeque popcorn, truffle parmesan popcorn, Mediterranean popcorn, even salted caramel popcorn

Drink wise, gin is on my radar, and of course the mixologists are happy to concoct as many unique recipes as their guests will allow. While whiskey seemed to be the drink of choice last year, this year the piney liquor has made a grand re-entrance. Finally, it seems to also be the year of the loose leaf tea, as we’re now witnessing it on cocktail lists galore. There are also tea bistros popping up around the country, like Vancouver’s SalonTea, which actually creates custom loose leaf tea blends for their clients.

LEISURE Yoanna House is the winner of Cycle 2 of America’s Next Top Model, TV Presenter, Model, and full-time mom. Despite her success, Yoanna’s witty charm, and down to earth attitude, keep her grounded, making her the ideal role model. I spent some time talking to Yoanna about the art of juggling a successful career, and being a parent.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO COMPETE IN AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL? For me the competition was really difficult. My eyes were just really on the prize and that was getting a legitimate contract with a modelling agency and that’s what pushed me forward.
DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE A MODEL? I always loved fashion, from an early age. I knew that I wanted to be involved with fashion in some way, and that involvement ended up being modelling.
I WOULD IMAGINE THAT A CAREER IN MODELLING CAN BE DEMANDING, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE A FAMILY. HOW DO YOU BALANCE THE TWO? When I first became a mom I gave up work for about a year. and then I realized that giving up work was giving up a huge part of me. Now that I am back at work, I have a great support system. I try not to be on the road for more than 2 or 3 days. I have reached a point where I only do things that I really love and feel would help me get ahead. I do my best to take things as they come, I try not to stress too much, I just go with the flow.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN WHO ARE TRYING TO DEVELOP THEIR CAREERS WHILE RAISING THEIR KIDS? I think people put this sigma on women that once they have a baby they’re done, but I think what really happens is that you become more in tuned with other women and you become more spiritual. Not in a religious sense per say but in a way you grow empathetic. I think that helps you become more aware of other women in the workplace. It can be more empowering than anything because you are connected with other women in the workplace and that can be really helpful.
HAS BEING A MOM CHANGED YOUR CAREER PLANS IN ANY WAY? I like to do more quality things now. When you’re younger you’re more open to different projects, and you experiment to see what works. I feel like being a mom has helped me choose more wisely how I want to be presented and branded in a way.
THERE IS A LOT OF COMPETITION FOR ASPIRING MODELS, LOOKING FOR THEIR BIG BREAK, TO MAKE IT IN THE INDUSTRY. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THEM? I think its good to be realistic with your goals. You can achieve a lot. I think a lot of girls assume that if you move to a bigger city right away that they’re going to be the next Victoria Secret model. I don’t think they realize how much work these women have put into it. What I’ve learned is that instead of being closed minded one has to be open. I was open minded and tried new things and that’s when opportunities presented themselves. It’s also important to be open to professional criticism. Many women take offence when they are told that they need to cut their hair, or lose some weight, but it’s important to remember that this is feedback coming from people who have been working in the industry for years, and that their advice is going to be helpful.
THE CONCEPT OF BEAUTY, IS INCREDIBLY SUBJECTIVE. WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU? I think when I was younger I was fixated on a certain type of beauty, however the older I’m getting, Im finding people beautiful who have a sense of well roundedness and they see things multidimensional. People who put things in perspective and that’s what makes you see them in a different light, they are incredibly beautiful.
THERE IS A MISCONCEPTION THAT “ LIFE IS EASIER FOR BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE” WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS? DO YOU THINK THAT BEAUTY HAS ENOUGH VALUE, AND IMPACT, TO THE STYLISH LIFE MAGAZINE |

LEISURE MAKE OUR LIVES “EASY”? AS SOMEONE WHO IS OBVIOUSLY BEAUTIFUL, WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR LIFE EASY? Real beauty that people admire is a gift. Thats from genetics, and I think it can definitely open doors for you in life yes. At the same time though it’s difficult, sometimes people feel uncomfortable because you make them feel insecure about themselves. It does also make you subject to criticism, you’re putting yourself out there and people look down on that. You get judged a lot, because everyone thinks you should look and present yourself a certain way, and that can be hard to deal with. Sometimes young girls think their looks will get them so far, and then reality hits, and they don’t have a back up plan and no education. That’s an empty way to live. So it’s really important to always work hard, and equip yourself with knowledge and skills to succeed in life, and not
look good. You have to make an effort though, you have to think enough of yourself to present yourself in a positive way.
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY? I have certain people in my life I look up to. My grandma for sure, my mom, Stevie Nicks is a big one. Free spirited women in general, who don’t feel powerless without a man. Women who have a really strong sense of themselves and because of that can give great advice.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AND WHY? I would say being able to live in New York, and to work in Television has been a great accomplishment for me, as well as being able to be in the business but not affected by it. I’m really proud of the fact that many of my good friends
