NE1 events season is in full swing at the moment and what an opportunity for me to not only help create, but to participate during my three-month internship in the Marketing and Events department. This city is one of the friendliest and most passionate places I have ever come across in my travels, not to even begin mentioning their cultural abundance. Working at NE1 has provided me with a completely new understanding on how I view both cities, and Newcastle in general. NE1’s knowledge is second-to-none when discussing the city centre but more than that, their passion matches the city and their drive and ambition is the focal point of every decision. In a summer that has seen pocket parks, Screen on the Green, the NE1 Motor Show, NE1 Restaurant Week, Dacia Magic Weekend, the Blackett Street closures and so much more, it has been some of the busiest and most interesting work I have ever done. I just ask what’s next? No two days are the same and NE1 takes that into a whole new spectrum in my opinion. Yet their humbleness and city-comes-first attitude is what makes working here so special. With their once-every-five-year BID renewal coming up, it is incredible to witness and experience how much this city means to them. I have never respected a place I work so much and as my internship comes to an end, I shall pin the Get into Newcastle website to my home computer and keep a keen eye on what these creative and passionate people come up with next! NEVER A DULL MOMENT NE IN

SUMMER FUN IN NE1

NE1's

Summer snaps Team NE1 have brought tens of thousands of people to the city this summer! We kicked things off with Magic Weekend in May, started a summer of screenings at Screen on the Green, set up another sunny Quayside Seaside, pedestrianised Blackett Street for family weekends, revved up our engines for the Newcastle Motor Show and found foodie heaven during NE1 Restaurant Week. What a summer we’ve had in NE1! Here are some of the best bits…

What a summer! As Marketing and Events Executive for NE1, this is definitely my favourite time of year. Working alongside Ben to plan, organise and deliver some of the biggest summer events in our city is so much fun. From the NE1 Newcastle Motor Show and NE1’s Screen on the Green, to NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week and our latest addition of Family Fun Weekends on Blackett Street – it’s been non-stop! This summer my role has included choosing, ordering and gaining the license for each individual film of the 84 we’ve shown at Screen on the Green, finding giant games and fun seating (as well as testing them all of course!) for Blackett Street, marketing 107 different Restaurant Week menus and speaking to a stunt driver… and that was all in one day! It’s all worth it though when you see the smiling faces enjoying each and every event NE1 delivers. We’re now ramping up to our BID Renewal vote which

GET INTO NEWCASTLE // 6

will take place over September and October. It’s a really exciting time for us here. Another five years of NE1 would see the Marketing and Events Team working on even more major events and looking to transform Newcastle’s Christmas experience, which I think personally would be fantastic! Who doesn’t love Christmas?! Plus, over another five years, who knows what will pop-up, cross our minds, or be suggested by one of our amazing businesses - that’s what’s so exciting about what we do! Newcastle has come so far over the past ten years of NE1, it’s only looking back that you realise how much we’ve done. And if we get our Renewal vote, who’s to say how far we can go in the next five? Your Geordie Jackpot generosity has been injected back into the city as NE1 unveils its new pop-up park. Grey Street Gathering is the first city centre project paid for by the Geordie Jackpot and will take pride of place on Grey Street until October. Bringing together local designers, builders and project managers including Colour, Unicorn Sheet Metal Works and ESH, we’re certain this pocket park in the heart of the city will steal the hearts of the people of Newcastle! The Geordie Jackpot's new pop-up park will pack up in October, but will return every summer - meaning we have another new addition and even more reason to get excited about the sunny seasons in Newcastle! The purpose of this film is to ensure we capture people’s memories, tales and anecdotes for future generations. “The Bigg Market has played a pivotal role in Newcastle city centre for centuries now and we are keen to ensure that the history is not lost.” If you’ve got a story to tell, send your tales via email to admin@newcastlene1ltd.com.
