Ho ho ho, howay the lads! Pardon my little joke… you see I tend to get a little busy around this time of year and my sense of humour is the only thing that keeps me going! Why, just the other night I was saying to Rudolph… well, you don’t need to hear about that actually, we’ll just keep that between ourselves. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, it’s my time to shine, Christmas Day is fast approaching, and as if I wasn’t busy enough, the good people at NE1 have asked me to write this to you – funny, I’m sure it’s normally the people of Newcastle who write to me, but never mind! With being so busy meeting little people, and delivering presents, I don’t often get a chance to take part in many Christmas activities, but I’ve read the magazine you’re about to look through, and I can tell you it’s made me a little jealous! I’m sure I could make time for a go on the toboggan! Mrs Claus always makes sure I have a good Christmas Day lunch when I get in from work, but some of the ones in this magazine look delicious, I may see if she fancies a trip into the city! I’m sure I’ll be caught up on sleep by New Year’s Eve though, so watch out for me dancing my way into 2020… I might leave the red suit at home though! Having opened in early October, we thought it was about time we brightened up the cooler months with a trip to the city's latest culinary destination. After an afternoon browsing the rails and ticking off never-ending Christmas lists, there’s nothing quite like winding-down with a killer cocktail in hand, tucking into hearty, seasonal delights. Nestled on Market Lane, Horticulture is one for interior-buffs! Think exposed brickwork, delicate fairy lights and bright neon signs screaming

out for a feature on your Insta feed. Horticulture is all about short, snappy bites of delectable, clean goodness. We start with the halloumi fries - a jenga-like tower of cheesy, melt-inthe-mouth goodness. These gorgeous slabs of halloumi are perfect for soaking up the last of the pomegranate and mint dip. The main event is where this place really comes alive. Put together by expert chef and Newcastle native, Peter Breckon, foodies can choose from four different sections. 'From The Earth' brings green goodies, bursting

with clean, veggie surprises. We opt for tenderstem broccoli - delectable stems cooked in black garlic sauce, sesame seeds and paired with a fruity charred lime. Before we put down our forks, we're greeted with seasonal tempura vegetables. Think fresh, juicy vegetables expertly seasoned and finished in a light coating of batter perfect for sharing. The 'From The Sea' offering is definitely worth checking out - bringing everything from charred tiger prawns to barbecued octopus.
