ELDON SQUARE INTRODUCE QUIET HOURS…
A fantastic initiative from our friends at Eldon Square and one that encapsulates the community spirit of this fantastic shopping centre perfectly. The Eldon Square squad have recently announced that they will be hosting regular quiet hours on the first Tuesday of every month from 10am to 11am and the following Saturday from 9am to 10am, all year round in support of North East Autism Society. TIME TO TIE THE KNOT WITH THE COUNTY HOTEL
CELEBRATING HOMEGROWN TALENT WITH FENWICK
There's never been a better time to shout about local producers and businesses blooming here in the region, and our friends at Fenwick have been doing just that with Fenwick Exchange - an artisanal marketplace showcasing some of the North East's best homegrown talent! The marketplace was in-situ in the Food Hall in May and has since introduced us to a wide range of inspiring independents including the likes of Hepple Gin, Mother Mercy, Black Storm Brewery, The Jar House and Pitwheel Distillery to name but a few. Seeing the Fenwick team give back to the region's hospitality scene by shining a light on brewers, biscuit-bakers, gin-distillers and chutney-makers is simply wonderful, and we can't wait to treat ourselves and our loved ones to goodies from these smaller businesses right here in the city as we hit the shops once again this summer! fenwick.co.uk
Calling all brides-and-grooms-to-be! Our friends at The County Hotel have just announced a brand new package that will have you swooning in no time. One of the city’s premier hotel venues and a spot that dates all the way back to 1874, The County Hotel are now taking bookings for their all-inclusive wedding package, doing the hard work for you while ensuring your big day is as special as it should be. With prices starting from £5,500, you and your entourage can enjoy a romantic ceremony in their stunning and newly-refurbished County Suite followed by a three-course wedding breakfast with wine and a glass of fizz to toast the night away. That’s just the tip of the iceberg; from there you can welcome additional guests to dance the night away as the DJ drops hit after hit, and there’s also a reduced bedroom rate for your nearest and dearest. With expert wedding coordinators on hand to plan and guide you through the process of your special day, you won't regret joining the County family when it comes to tying the knot in style in the Toon! countyhotel.co.uk
SAY HELLO TO HIBOU BLANC #2!
Hibou Blanc has been a blissful spot to enjoy a bit of al fresco dining in recent weeks, and now we're able to get back inside for an indulgent feast, we're over the moon with the news that the city will be welcoming a stunning second site in the coming months! The former Davidson's Jewellers site on Grey Street is set to become The Grey Owl, a Hibou Blanc sister venue, and is working towards an August opening. The Grey Owl will be open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, closing the day with nibbles, delicious sharing platters and tapas alongside sensational cocktails and wines. Stay tuned on the Hibou Blanc social channels for news and updates! hiboublanc.co.uk
TWAS THE 9TH OF JOOOOOON!
The 9th June is drilled into any true Geordie's brain. But why? Of course, it's the Blaydon Races - the world famous running route 'alang the Scotswood Road'! In the lyrics we all know and love, we're taken on a trip through the Toon, bypassing the likes of Balmbras and Collingwood Street. As the Blaydon Races returns in its 'virtual' form this June, with runners invited to complete six miles anywhere, anytime on the big day, we're rounding off our very own route with an afternoon of well-deserved indulgence on the Bigg Market. Whether it's a bite to eat on the sunsoaked terrace at Kafeneon or a glass of the good stuff at the stunning WC wine bar, this historical part of the city is the perfect place for all your smiling faces! Twenty thousand and twenty one on a summer's afternoon!
IT'S TIME TO ROCK!
Newcastle's Hard Rock Cafe has officially opened its doors and we've never seen the Guildhall looking so glorious! In typical Hard Rock style, this new Quayside hotspot is complete with memorabilla from some of the biggest names in the biz, dazzling decor that puts you on the set of a rock 'n' roll video, and a lip-smackingly-good, US-inspired menu sure to impress the whole gang! While away the hours sipping stylish cocktails, tucking into Black Angus steak burgers and taking in exhibition-style surroundings - oh, and don't forget to check out the Rock Shop and take away some themed merch to bring a bit of Hard Rock to your home. This one has been topic of conversation for some time now, and we're buzzing to be enjoying all that it has to offer. See you there! hardrockcafe.com
Get the INNSiDE lowdown on Newcastle’s newest hotel… First things first... we're buzzing to see another familiar foodie face hitting the Toon - and we can confirm, it's everything you could possibly wish for and more when it comes to indulgent Italian dining! INNSiDE hotel's stylish, 90-cover restaurant is headed up by the UK's favourite Italian chef and restaurateur, the one and only, Gino D'Acampo! Bringing his charm, energy and exquisite Italian flavours to this Quayside hangout, there's no better place to unwind in style, overlooking the River Tyne while enjoying the best of the best artisan ingredients, dishes and cocktails. The stunning new space boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and a contemporary terrace for outdoor dining. It truly is a beautiful addition to the city and we can't wait to see the space filling up in the coming weeks! Not only is the swanky new INNSiDE Newcastle making a major impact on our hospitality scene, they're taking it to the next level by creating their very own, bespoke art exhibition to celebrate you - our lovely Geordie residents! Following a grand opening on 17 May, we’ve recently learned during our stay that INNSiDE are celebrating their new Quayside location with a tribute to the ‘people of the city’ and a nod to the culture, communities and industries that
they represent. Bringing together a small collective of the city’s cultural leaders who make up a vital part of Newcastle's fabric, INNSiDE are celebrating the likes of local bakeries, emerging artists, rising music stars and MPs. It’s an extremely exciting initiative that will also see award-winning photographer, Megan Jepson and local content creator, Ben Hale capture the portraits - giving us all an exclusive glimpse into the lifestyle of each of the 'INNSiDERS'. The art exhibition will be displayed for three consecutive nights at
INNSiDE Newcastle and the specially selected INNSiDERS will be announced over the course of the next six weeks. innside.com/newcastle

Muscle in with our comrades down at 15 Side this summer and dive into a seafood session that’s slightly different to your traditional chippy supper. A thought-provoking BALTIC 39 exhibition and broadcast programme from Tess Denman-Cleaver and Kate Liston that examines civic gathering and public political discourse. A collaborative project developed since 2018, Town Hall Meeting of the Air explores how architecture across the UK inadvertently shapes public gatherings while examining the silences and physical proximity lost in digital togetherness during the pandemic. We can't wait to see this dazzling piece inspired by the three harrowing words; ‘you’re on mute’! baltic.art

SUITCASES – HIT THE GROUND RUNNING DANCE THEATRE COMPANY 26 JUNE The Alphabetti is back with a cracking production this June! A striking, collaborative piece with Newcastle University’s VOICE platform, we’re certain it will have you feeling every emotion under the sun! Sucking Eggs by Steve Byron follows the story of Peter, a man in his late 60s who has accepted his ageing with grace. He is kept busy caring for his mother and his ever-growing obsessions with the 'state' of the 'bloody' world, he's at loggerheads with his younger sister Maggie who is slightly unimpressed about getting old and is determined to do so as disgracefully as possible. A powerful production that acts as a timely reminder that although you can choose your friends, you can’t choose your family. alphabettitheatre.co.uk

NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY FINE ART DEGREE SHOW 2021 5 - 19 JUNE
Now this is one to get excited about! Our friends at Dance City have just announced that they’ll be live streaming a brand new production from Hit The Ground Running Dance Theatre Company and Jon Crispin! The inspiration behind this dazzling dance show is poignant and the story behind it is equally as moving. In 1995, The Willard Asylum, New York, closed its doors after a century of treating those deemed unfit for civilized society. Discovered in an attic, the suitcases of 427 Willard patients were found inside with beautifully preserved epitaphs to a few of those who lived and died at the asylum and a poignant remembrance of the lives they left outside. Drawing inspiration from some of the suitcases found, Hit The Ground Running’s new show is a moving exploration of the people with stories to tell and plays homage to innocent lives lived and lost to mental illness. A cultural must for families this June! dancecity.co.uk

SIMON MUNNERY: ALAN PARKER URBAN WARRIOR FAREWELL TOUR 14 JUNE
Multi award-winning comedian Simon Munnery reprises his notorious alter ego as the bedsit anarchist Alan Parker Urban Warrior this June and it’s arguably one of the funniest things on our agenda this season! Alan returns to The Stand with a new show consisting of old gold, the old truths, and some new truths that are loosely based around the old truths. For over 35 years, Munnery has performed around the world, experimenting with and innovating the stand-up form and in the early 90s, his Alan Parker Urban Warrior character took the comedy circuit by storm and garnered Munnery his own BBC Radio 1 series and a residency on ITV’s Saturday Live. A must-see! thestand.co.uk
Kenton Cool: Everest the Cool Way
14 JUNE
This June, the Tyne Theatre is welcoming one of the world’s most successful and revered climbers to the Toon. Kenton Cool is an ice cold dude and an icon in the mountaineering scene. In Everest the Cool Way, Kenton will be describing his climbing career, and detailing the unheard tales from Everest, the lowdown on climbing Aconcagua and the trials and tribulations of crossing the jungles of Bolivia in the midst of summer. tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk

5 minutes with… George Sampson
George Sampson is taking to the Tyne Theatre & Opera House stage to play Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk: A Socially Distanced Pantomime. We caught up with the Britain’s Got Talent star ahead of the show...
Is this your first time on the Toon? Absolutely not! I’ve been to the Toon many, many times - whether it be for touring with BGT, or just for a night out at New Year! I love Newcastle, it reminds me of home despite being across the country, and I think it's because of the super friendly people! We’re known for being a bit chilly, have you brought your coat? Haha, I'll definitely be bringing my ‘big coat’ as we say up north. Your best Tyneside moment? My best Tyneside moment has to be both BGT tours back in 2008 and 2009. The people of Newcastle really came out for it! Although, generally speaking, audiences in the Toon are always up for it! Favourite Geordie? My favourite Geordie has to be Bryan Robson, as I'm a huge Manchester United fan. I do love Alan Shearer though too. Newcastle plans while you’re in town? Probably just chill if I'm honest! Four shows a day can be quite tough on the body, so I'll probably be eating and resting quite a bit. What would you be doing if you weren’t here now? Probably looking after my 100 week old WestiePoo, Biscuit. Tell us a fun fact? I have an Esports team called BSU and we compete regularly in Call of Duty and Fortnite tournaments. Jack and the Beanstalk: A Socially Distanced Pantomime is on stage at the Tyne Theatre from 29 May to 6 June. Grab your tickets online, before it’s too late! tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk

THE SOCIALLY DISTANCED SUPER CLUB 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, & 20 JUNE Talk about rockin’ in a socially distanced world! The wonderful Wylam Brewery have kept our fridges stocked over the past year, they welcomed us back into the city with their al fresco sun trap in April, and now they’re turning up the volume for our city’s live music scene with the return of their beloved Socially Distanced Supper Club! An evening of great music with sensational supper, good company and during these crazy times, a rare opportunity to enjoy live music performances! So, how does it work? Well, it goes a little like this; tickets are purchased per table as tables of 6, tables of 4 and barrel tables with high stools (2 people). You’re seated and the Wylam team will serve you all night long - oh, and you can even boogie, yes boogie (!) with those at your table! Think of it like a regular gig night, but in a socially-distanced way - and you can sit and chat to your friends while waiting for a drink instead of queuing!
Now, let’s take a look at who’s taking to the stage this summer! King of 90s indie rock ‘n’ roll, Steve Mason soars into the city on 6 June to rattle through his stellar collection of tunes. British soul singer Alice Russel will wow crowds with her unbelievable voice on 7 June, and certified platinum artist, JP Cooper brings his signature sound to the city on 8 June. In the 12 years since he began performing, Reginald D Hunter has become one of the UK comedy industry's best-known and most distinctive performers - good job he’s coming to the Toon on 10 June. Last but by no means least, Wylam Brewery round off an incredible June line-up with an exclusive show from Jake Bugg as he heads to the city to celebrate his fifth studio album, filled with catchy guitar hooks, rhythmic base lines and anthemic choruses. You can catch him strutting his stuff on 11 June. Don't miss your chance to enjoy live music moments in style! wylambrewery.co.uk
