My Delhi arrives in Sunderland! A colourful Indian eatery that has skyrocketed to become one of the region’s most-loved restaurants, My Delhi are soon to be opening a brand new restaurant in Sunderland as the city’s hospitality scene continues to flourish. We caught up with Gaurav Dayal and Elahi Shah Amin, My Delhi’s executive chef and managing director to find out more... Tell us a little about yourself? How did you get into hospitality and the restaurant scene? I qualified as an Indian chef after attending catering college before joining one of the most eminent hotel brands as a Kitchen Management Trainee. Having 6

learned from the best Indian chefs in India, I came to the UK as a skilled chef in 2011 and worked my way to the top at various restaurants chains. How did your My Delhi journey begin? I was approached to join a new team that had the vision to take diners on a journey through the streets of Delhi. As a Delhiite myself, it was simply a no-brainer. I had the opportunity to *wow* diners with flavours and share tasting experiences with people from my time growing up in Delhi! Promotion to Executive Chef at My Delhi must have been a proud moment for you… It was indeed a proud moment for me! We have something special here at My Delhi and I’m proud to be a part of it. What we’ve achieved here at My Delhi has been unprecedented in the short space of time we’ve been open. I don’t see this as a job, it’s something I enjoy doing and am hugely passionate about!
